Background and Objective: Osteoarthritis of knee is very common rheumatological problem with prevalence of 22% to 39% in India. Lower limb strengthening exercises are an important component of the treatment for knee osteoarthritis. Evidence suggests that, strengthening the hip abductor muscles may influence joint loading and/or OA-related symptoms as well as the length of IT band but no study has actually investigated the relationship of the strength of hip abductor muscles with pain, duration of symptoms and the length of Iliotibial (IT) band and the relationship of the length of IT band with

Résumé :
OBJECTIVE: The impact of hip abductor tendon tears on hip muscle strength in women is unknown. We described maximal isometric hip muscle strength in women with magnetic resonance imaging–verified hip abductor tendon tears who were scheduled for surgery and compared to age-matched healthy volunteers, and evaluated whether strength was correlated with patient-reported and function outcomes. DESIGN: Cross-sectional, comparative study. METHODS: Strength was assessed using a handheld dynamometer in 62 patients and 24 healthy volunteers (100% females) with mean ± SD age of 55 ± 12 and 53 ± 6 years.

Objectives: The degree of knee osteoarthritis (OA) is usually graded with the Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading system. Studies have shown the effect of weak hip abductor muscle as a contributory factor to knee OA. However, there is a shortage of literature regarding the association of hip abductor strength with the KL grade. Methods: Individuals diagnosed with bilateral knee OA between the ages 40 and 70 years, who have had a recent knee radiograph and are mobile and willing to participate, were included in the study. Abstract Background: Prolonged standing posture at work leads to static contraction and also a reduction in the blood supply to the muscles particularly in the back and legs leading to muscle fatigue, and thereby affecting muscle endurance. Foot deviations also create alterations in the movement of lower extremities and can also magnify the risk of injury. This study has analyzed, if there is a relationship between foot posture (cavus, neutral, and planus) and hip abductor strength and endurance in a nurse’s job that demands prolonged standing and walkin

Peak knee valgus has been shown to predict anterior cruciate ligament injury. The purpose of the current study was to compare peak rate of torque development (RTD) to peak isometric torque as a predictor of peak knee valgus during landing. Twenty-three healthy females participated. Hip abductor muscle performance was quantified using 2 types of isometric contractions: sustained and rapid. Peak isometric torque was calculated from the sustained isometric contraction. Peak RTD was calculated from the rapid isometric contraction (0–50 and 0–200 ms after force initiation).
