Résumé :
Three major themes either have or ought to have affected the recent study of pre-university education in Germany between about 1400 and 1700. These are the Reformation and schooling; the so-called "new history" of education; and the current wave of research on literacy in Renaissance, Reformation, and Counter- Reformation Europe. The works cited should be considered illustrative of investigation carried out and issues debated during approximately the last twenty years.

This article examines the great age of corporal punishments in German-speaking lands to draw attention to the historical intersections between senses, disability, and social death. Between approximately 1400 and 1550, civic and territorial magistrates administered a wide variety of corporal punishments on subjects, including mutilating punishments such as blinding. This article sketches the history of judicial blinding through a close reading of the archival record from the free imperial city of Frankfurt am Main and contextualizes this evidence by reference to the practice in other sites acro

Energy production using hydropower has a 150-year history in Norway. High mountains, lots of rain, and a well-developed technology laid the foundation for low and stable electricity prices. The Norwegian electricity market is unique and different from any other country. Nearly all electricity produced (98.3 percent) comes from renewable energy sources and 75 percent of the energy used for heating is electricity. From autumn 2020, major changes have been observed in the electricity market in Norway. In 2021, Norway opened two transmission cables, one to Germany and one to England. Both cables h

Cities have been magnets for a wide diversity of talent and have captured the human imagination as centers of intellectual and cultural achievement since humans began to live together. To learn from the city means to engage with its assets and riches, but also with its pressing problems, contradictions, and paradoxes. It also means to reflect upon urban settings as places where civilizations often meet and define themselves, and where populations and infrastructure change over time, sometimes slowly, but in other cases, rapidly.

Ringkøbing in the Middle Ages The last 25 years have seen frequent archaeological excavations in the medieval market town of Ringkøbing. In this paper, the author presents the results and weighs them against the written and cartographic sources in order to gain an overall picture of the emergence and development of the town during the Middle Ages (Fig. 1). Over the years, several local historians have dealt with the history of Ringkøbing. They based their investigations exclusively on the few medieval sources referring to the town, however, and the main issues they concentrated on were the rea

Abstract Background Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), a viral infectious disease affecting the central nervous system, potentially resulting in prolonged neurological symptoms and other long-term sequelae. Case identification can be challenging as TBE can be associated with non-specific symptoms, and even in cases consistent with typical TBE symptoms, the rate of laboratory testing to confirm cases is unknown. This study assessed real-world TBE laboratory testing rates across Germany. Methods In this retrospective cross-sectional study, physicians provided data on TBE decision-making, laboratory

More than half of the Medieval Latin manuscripts of the RL were copied after the year 1400. Only three can be dated to the period before 800. Of these the oldest is a single leaf in the library’s New Royal Collection, NKS 1878 2°. With lacunae due to the loss of the outer edge of the leaf it contains the text of the Historiae of Gregory of Tours from liber V, cap. 1, “filium eius paruulum …” to cap. 3 “… morte praeuentus interiit”.
