Résumé :
Abstract: Housing costs have been increasing rapidly in Germany in recent years. Given the importance of housing for the elderly, one may expect many to be forced to dedicate ever-larger shares of their income to housing costs. Using longitudinal data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (GSOEP), we examine how changes in housing costs between 1996 and 2017 have affected income poverty among Germany’s over-65s. Our results reveal that higher costs have indeed contributed to increased income poverty in old age in that period. Our pooled probit regression models as applied

We attempt to analyze longitudinal housing demand with the number of population and number of household size from the Korea Housing Survey from 2016 to 2020 using the Mankiw-Weil Method. We also include singles and couples in the young and the old age group to identify the relative housing demand. Furthermore, we extend our analysis to 17 regional housing markets and examine the regional housing demand to confirm whether heterogeneity of regional housing demand exists. Using the machine learning method, we also provide the relative importance of variables influencing housing demand. Thus, we e

Abstract Background Longitudinal studies on associations between changes in living environment and health are few and focus on movers. Next to causal effects, differences in health can, however, result due to residential mobility. The present study explored changes in living environment related to (changes in) physical health among non-movers. Causality was reinforced by a novel study design. Methods We obtained longitudinal data on both living environment and physical health covering 4601 non-movers aged 18+ with 16 076 health observations from the German Socio-Economic Panel between 1999 and

AbstractRecently, the homeownership rate of immigrants in Germany has increased by more than 20 percentage points. To shed light on this sharp rise, this paper investigates the driving forces of the trend in the homeownership rate of immigrant households in Germany between 1996 to 2005 and 2001 to 2011 using a probit-based non-linear decomposition method. Empirical findings suggest that 50 % of the change in immigrants’ homeownership rate within the first time period can be explained by characteristics such as age and educational attainment. In Germany, the construction of new residential buildings for social housing has significantly declined, while the demand for such housing has steadily increased. This study aimed to identify the economic conditions necessary to enable affordable rents for social housing in Germany, considering various financial and policy parameters. A mixed-methods approach was employed, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative data from 45 realized mid-range residential buildings meeting EH 40 and EH 55 energy standards. Research in the USA provides evidence that neighbourhood conditions affect intergenerational mobility. However, what remains unclear is the extent to which the US context is unique in producing this influence. To examine this question, the present study directly compares neighbourhood effects on intergenerational mobility in the USA versus those in Germany – a country whose housing market and social welfare policies differ significantly from those in the USA. Results provide a blueprint for conducting cross-national neighbourhood effects studies and illuminate how the nature and severity of ne

For decades, public and scholarly debates on large, post-war housing estates in western Europe have been concerned with social decline. After 1989/1990, the point in time of fundamental societal change in eastern Europe, this concern was transferred to estates in post-socialist cities. However, empirical evidence for a general negative trend has not emerged. Recent publications confirm the persistence of social mix and highlight the differentiated trajectories of estates. This paper aims to contribute to an approach of how to conceptually make sense of these differentiated trajectories. Using

Since the Water Framework Directive (WFD) came into force in 2000, data on the hydromorphological quality have been collected for all rivers in Europe. In Germany, a reference-based classification scheme is used (LAWA 2000) for hydrological assessment. The question arises whether this method can compensate sufficiently for a change of ecoregion. In our study of the Hase River in NW Germany, the frequency of the river classes was compared between two ecoregions (Lower Saxonian Mountains vs. Northwest-German Lowlands). In the lowlands, the evaluation shows a significantly higher proportion of cl

Reliable estimates for differences in life expectancy (LE) by socio-economic position (SEP), that can be assessed in an international context and are comprehensive in terms of considering different SEP dimensions, are missing for the German population so far. The lack of national mortality data by SEP required an innovative methodological approach to estimate LE from survey data with a mortality followup. The main strengths of th

Abstract This chapter examines a cluster of wildfire conflagrations that hit northern California during October 2017, which resulted in significant loss of housing units (6874 residential structures destroyed or damaged). To assess the magnitude of the migration response and network of destinations, a method to estimate migration drawing from a proxy universe of households with students enrolled in public schools was proposed, using data on school exits and re-enrollments from a longitudinal student database. Abstract In this paper, a model problem for helical gear system dynamics is studied. The model problem consists of a shaft coupled to a plate through a bearing stiffness. Gear forces are modeled as a longitudinal excitation of the shaft which in turn drives the gear housing through the bearing. In this study, the shaft is modeled as a rod, while the bearing is modeled as a spring only supporting longitudinal forces. The gear housing is modeled as a clamped circular plate. The currently developing procedural modality incorporating optical tracking and transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) for superior soft tissue contrast, later combined with CT data, will likely develop into a readily affordable option, as the use of MRI will become unnecessary [1].
