Texte intégralAs basis for the ongoing digitization and automation in mining, the creation of visually appealing and highly accurate 3D models, as well as their automatic interpretation and processing, is of particular importance. Especially for surveying and inspection applications unmanned aerial systems equipped with cameras are now widely used and are state of the art. However the greatest future need for research certainly lies in data processing, where on the one hand the achievable model quality, and on the other hand the automated data interpretation for special mining related issues such as the characterization of muck-piles or geological characterization is at the center of the work. In particular, due to the possibility of reproducibility, but also due to higher operability, model experiments are currently playing an important role in photogrammetric research at the Montanuniversität in addition to classical real-scale investigations in the field. In the present paper, examples from applied and fundamental research are given, highlighting the added value of laboratory experiments while critically contrasting them with reality

Texte intégralAt the former iron ore mine Konrad (Salzgitter), which recently is being converted into a repository for nuclear waste with negligible heat generation, the repositioning shaft is expanded and a large filling site is developed currently. In this context an automated tachy-metric deformation monitoring system is applied. The concept and realization of this sys-tem are presented here. The shaft expansion poses some special challenges, since working space is geometrically closed and spatially very restricted. Tachymetric monitoring can therefore only take place from above. Thus, an innovative overhead mounting of monitoring tachymeters is required. This overhead application results in the necessity of an adapted evaluation and geodetic net adjustment. In addition, the instrument setup makes direct access for installation and maintenance more difficult. Therefore, redundancies were created, and are taken into account in the evaluation process consequently in order to obtain consistent results

Texte intégralThe core competencies in the field of applied engineering geodesy w.r.t. DIN 18710 are surveying and staking out of objects, as well as deformation analysis. The congruence analysis, as the main part of the deformation analysis, allows for identifying spatial, geometrical and temporal changes of objects. In mining industry, the results of a convergence monitoring are used to evaluate the geo-mechanical properties of the underground as well as to validate geo-dynamic models. Moreover, results of the congruence analysis can be used to optimize workflows, too. At the former iron ore mine Konrad (Salzgitter). which is being converted into the German repository for nuclear waste with negligible heat generation currently, a complex automated and continual monitoring system is established, which includes overhead mounted total stations. Due to the non-specific mount, the onboard tilt compensator cannot be used to level up the instruments. Thus, the inclination angles of the instruments w.r.t. the global reference frame must be parameterized within the network adjustment process. This concept is known as integrated network adjustment. To evaluate the stability of the reference points of the global frame and to derive convergences, a con-gruence analysis is used. Whereas usually deformations are derived from the results of independent single adjustments, we present a congruence model that combines the different original observation sets in one unified model. By applying the statistical toolbox of Baarda’s Data-Snooping method, outliers as well as point deformations can be identified

Texte intégralThe interdisciplinary ESF Junior Research Group ARIDuA is investigating the topic “Autonomous Robots and Internet of Things in Underground Mining”. Therefore it implements key technologies for the new sector of “Mining 4.0”. Focusing on the application of mobile robots in underground, a wireless sensor network is implemented and synergies are identified. This also results in significant benefits for the mining sector. In this context, an outline of a geological analysis system capable of pixel-wise mineral classification is presented. A hyper-spectral-camera mounted on a mobile vehicle is used inside an underground mine in combination with multiple state-of-the-art RGB cameras. The reason why this is necessary, the requirements, and the concept of data analysis is described. The automated mine survey generates an occurrence probability of each mineral class for each pixel. Therefore, it combines classification with geostatic methods

Texte intégralHydrological monitoring is important for mining activities. For example, a change of hydrological conditions might indicate an impact of mining activities in the neighborhood. The detection of such impacts is a relevant task. The observed areas are usually large, and a cyclic manual inspection is often very expensive. Therefore, remote sensing is suitable to do a monitoring of such areas in order to detect different processes. Changes in soil moisture can be detected by looking into backscattering characteristics of radar images, spec-trum analysis of optical images is able to assess vegetation vitality. The interpretation of multispectral data is able to show new and enlarged water bodies. Furthermore, ground deformation caused by hydrological changes (for example uplifts as a consequence of increasing pit water) can be detected and measured via radar interferometry. A monitoring with such methods is possible for large areas. As remote sensing sensors the Copernicus-satellites Sentinel-1 and 2 are suitable with the big advantage of providing data in short cycles operationally and free of charge. In this paper various monitoring components are described

Texte intégralAny mining activity - from exploration to mining and reclamation – as well as infrastructure projects associated with mining have inevitable impact on ecosystems. Pursuant to the regulations set forth in the Federal Nature Conservation Act, compensation must be provided in such cases in order to further safeguard ecosystem productivity and functionality. A GIS-based compensation register documenting information and questions relevant in this context is currently under construction at MIBRAG in order to manage such measures. As a result, an information and management tool will be available mapping and documenting the whole process in its complexity - from nature intervention to compensation planning/implementation and monitoring

Texte intégralRecent advances in contemporary Virtual Reality (VR) technologies are going to have a significant impact on everyday life. Through VR it is possible to virtually explore a computer-generated environment as a different reality, and to immerse oneself into the past or in a virtual museum without leaving the current real-life situation. For such an ultimate VR experience, the user should only see the virtual world. Currently, the user must wear a VR headset which fits around the head and over the eyes to visually separate himself from the physical world. Via the headset images are fed to the eyes through two small lenses. Cultural heritage (CH) monuments are ideally suited both for thorough multi-dimensional geometric documentation and for realistic interactive visualisation in immersive VR applications. Furthermore, VR is increasingly in use for virtual museums to enhance a museum visitor’s experience by providing access to additional materials for review and knowledge deepening either before or after the real visit. Using today’s available 3D technologies a virtual museum is no longer just a presentation of collections on the Internet or a virtual tour of an exhibition using panoramic photography. Additionally, the game industry offers tools for interactive visualisation of objects to motivate users to virtually visit objects and places. In this paper the generation of virtual 3D models for different cultural heritage monuments (e.g. the Selimiye mosque in Edirne, Turkey and the wooden model of Solomon´s Temple and others) and its processing for data integration into the two game engines Unity and Unreal are presented. The workflow from data acquisition to VR visualisation using the VR system HTC Vive, including the necessary programming for navigation and interactions, is described. Furthermore, the use (including simultaneous use of multiple end-users) of such a VR visualisation for CH monuments is discussed in this presentation

Texte intégralFor more than 500 years limestone has been mined in the Erzgebirge. In the past the deposits have only been opened up in opencast mines and are being mined underground from the early 20th century. The company GEOMIN, as the current owner, operates mining and processing plants at three locations along the Erzgebirgskamm, where high-quality products are fabricated for the construction chemicals, the plastics, concrete and plaster industries as well as for the paint and coatings industry from dolomitic and calcitic marble. Two of three deposits are exhausted, thus the underground mining has been concentrated at the Hammerunterwiesenthal location since 2017. For the next 50 years, a combination of open pit mining and underground mining is planned. In this article the plan-approval procedure is presented and an insight into the upcoming tasks of the mine surveying team is provided

Texte intégralIn spring of 2017 an unmanned aerial vehicle has been acquired by the GALA-MIBRAG-Service GmbH for photogrammetric data acquisition and evaluation. It is used to record small-limbed structures, geotechnical events and temporarily limited heaps. The integration of such measurements into existing processes requires data processing, dependent upon the used evaluation Software. This overall process was considered in connection with an estimation of achievable accuracies in the context of a thesis. In course of this publication, this process will be examined in more detail, with special attention given to the performed camera calibration, and a basic presentation of the used hard- and software with its corresponding peculiarities will be given
