Texte intégralThis study explores the interwar Albanian state youth organizations, the National Entity “The Albanian Youth” and the Federation of Artistic and Sports Associations “The Albanian Brotherhood. ” They constitute the first examples of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports that we find in present day Albania. These institutions, which related youth, education, sports and culture to a patriotic platform that deeply affected the political culture in the country, become for the first time the subject of a particular socio-historical research. This study proposes that these institutions advanced a project of citizenship for Albanian society. This project consists in the organization of national society through the youth and by projecting onto the city youth the good citizenship. Approaching national citizenship as being political this study suggests that the city emerges at the same time as a space of subversion of and compliance to power
Chevalier, Tom. « L'Etat social et les jeunes en Europe : analyse comparée des politiques de citoyenneté socioéconomique des jeunes ». Thesis, Paris, Institut d'études politiques, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015IEPP0040.
Texte intégralThis dissertation proposed a typology that accounts for the diversity of public policies promoting young people’s independence, i.e. what I call ‘youth welfare citizenship’, in Europe. This typology is built around two dimensions. The first dimension relates to public intervention on the school-to-work transition in order to promote the access to employment for young people, through the education policy and the employment policy: this is the issue of youth economic citizenship. It can be encompassing, when a country is strongly macrocorporatist, or selective, when it is not, according to the distribution of skills among the youth population. The second dimension has to do with public aids from the state towards young people: this is the issue of youth social citizenship. It can be familialized in Bismarckian welfare states, where young people are seen as children, or it can be individualized in Beveridgian welfare states, where young people are deemed to be adults. Combining these two dimensions, we end up with four regimes of youth welfare citizenship: an enabling citizenship (inclusive/individualized), a monitored citizenship (inclusive/familialized), a second-class citizenship (selective/individualized), and a denied citizenship (selective/familialized). In the first empirical part, I classify 15 western European countries into the typology by building two synthetic indices of youth economic citizenship and youth social citizenship. Then, in the second empirical part, I proceed to four case studies, each representing a regime of the typology: Sweden, Germany, the United Kingdom, and France
Barthélémy, Marc Paul François. « Grandir, apprendre, vivre ensemble : des citoyens au collège ». Paris 5, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006PA05H013.
Texte intégralGrow, learn, live together : citizen at school. Sociological point of view of the junior high school expérience. We question the bond between socialization, subjectivation and education to the citizenship. The age of the college is not a mere transitional period. It is the one of the first attempts to untie the identity crisis. Each school situation opens so many spaces of negotiation and construction of one-step. The conversations concern the efforts, the relations between peers, research to an identity of kind, and the tensions existing between well-being and just disparity of the results. The inquire mesures the gap between citizenship of the texts and practices. Between a will of authenticity and necessity of playing roles, the interest of the standards depend on their capacities to make the young person grow, at his own eyes of the peers and the professors. The game with rules seems to be a mechanism of resistance and regulation between egos' logic and common rules

Texte intégralThe first step of the analysis shows that the three polities are organized around the same political principles, with a central role given to the individual and the citizen in foundational discourses. We called this common representation background a "contractualist model". But beyond this shared matrix, data analysis shows substantial national difference regarding a couple of key issues like perceptions of inequalities, conceptions of citizenship and repertories of political actions. I propose an interpretation in terms of national political cultures typified as predominantly liberal (United Stats) republican (France) or mixed (Chile). In-depth interviews conducted with young adults (25-34 years old) in the 3 cities are analyzed within the conceptual framework previously built. It appears thus that the conceptions of citizenship they evoke most frequently associate rather than oppose the figures of the individual and the citizen: ideals of social transformation and personal accomplishment are conceived as walking hand in hand (circular logic). It also appears that for these young adults, the political realm goes well beyond political life. 2/3 of the interviewees claim actions they call political even if they show no relation with the sphere of government proper. I refer to these action "immediate practices of citizenship" as opposed to practices of citizenship that aim at social change through the mediation of the sphere of government ("mediate practices"). Claiming immediate practices of citizenship challenges the representaion of politics as an autonomous and overhanging sphere of power and repoliticize the social realm

Texte intégralAfter more than a hundred years of massive emigration and about thirty of immigration, Italy now faces the issue of second generation immigrants' citizenship, both in the sense of the acces to legal status of citizen – now based on ius sanguinis, with the possibility of acquiring the citizenship iure soli at the age of eighteen under the condition of permanent residence and following an expression of intent – and in the substancial sense of inclusion within the political community. This dissertation has the aim to open the concept of citizenship – as central in the political science as it is «essentially contested» - to empirical research, in its connections with national, religious and political spheres, leading to a rethinking of the national citizenship question. It is broadly devided into two parts : in the first, social representations of citizenship among a groupe of «young muslim immigrants children» are analysed, leading to three «models of citizenship»; in the second, a fieldwork within «young muslim immigrants children» associations and within the Citizenship Office of Genoa Municipality is realised. Ethnography permits to complete the analyses by taking into accout practices and processes through wich different meanings of citizenship are negociated, among power relations. A comparative approach adopting the French case as a «mirror» to the Italian one, allows to discuss a stereotyped opposition between «ethnical» and «ethical» nations, and propose a few paths to theoretical generalization

Texte intégralThis thesis explores an unprecedented aspect of postcolonial citizen training in West Africa during the twentieth century. It compares the making and unfolding of three sporting and physical activity infrastructures in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire and reveals how sports, youth movements and physical training have helped to build the social and political history of Ghanaian and Ivorian youths. The study shows how, in both countries, physical and sporting activities were used by colonial and postcolonial states to promote the formation of a young idealized citizen: athletic, urban, educated and loyal to the state. On the one hand, this research highlights the ambivalence at play within sporting practice, between subordination and emancipation. On the other hand, it illuminates how sporting and physical activities were instruments that contributed to the redefining and reinventing of gendered social identities. This thesis is based on archives collected in Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, France, Great-Britain, Switzerland and the USA and biographical interviews with forty former sportsmen and sportswomen in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire

Texte intégralThis work deals with the construction and the expansion of ethnicity of young French students holding a plurality of stigmata: religious (Islam), social (living in working-class suburbs of Paris) and ethnic (foreign origins: Arabic, Turkish or African) in the public sphere as well as the private sphere. The main question is how these people construct their ethnicity in contact with numerous actors (family, friends, neighborhood, school) during their primary socialization even when their communities lose ever more cohesion, giving the individual more opportunities to choose the content of their identities. The results of the survey display that the connections with the "differences" won't be governed as much by the type of family or the perception of religion than the social and scholastic path of the individual and his perception of social mobility, which is formalized by a typology. How does this ethnicity unfold? Is it instrumentalist, symbolic or of an other kind? Several “entrepreneurs of identity” have appeared during these last years, proposing collective identities defined in ethnic, religious or post-colonial terms. However, there is a deep gap between their discourse and those of the interviewed people. Their actions and their experience are turned toward more universal collective action (vote, scholastic support, etc. . . ). The expression of ethnic, religious or post-colonial references is more or less appeased and more affective than instrumentalist. Could their ethnicity be defined as symbolic as the analysis of their discourse and practices, especially those of consumption and free time, may suggest? Could this definition explain the weakness of ethnic and reli

Texte intégralThe present dissertation proposes an alysis of social representations among youg Greeks in relation to their values, their political conceptions or practices and their social status. A dialectical and relational approach (of subject, object and context) has made is possible to present the heuristic value through the double process of objectivation and anchorage of social representation; hence what is achieved is an explanation of the principles that govern the structure and the functioning of political representations. A survey was led based on the linguistic, verbal and discursive using techniques of free association, of semi-directive interviews and a questionnaire. This complex methodological approach (both quantitative and qualitative) was achieved through three separate research sessions among young Greeks of the ages 17 to 28. The later were distinguished with respect to the following variables: sex, status (high-schools students, university students and salaried employees) and finally participation in a political or social group. Through this approach and by shedding light on the interactions and correspondences between representations, practices and values, this dissertation presents a new perspective concerning of the notion of politics
Bourjot-Deparis, Julien. « L'étiquetage social au service du marketing social ». Thesis, Paris 9, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015PA090056.
Texte intégralSocial labeling is a persuasion technique which consists of assigning a label to an individual (i.e. personality trait or value) in order to see him/her comply with it. This approach, which is positive for the target individual because it is based on labeling socially valued qualities, provides good results on behavioral changes. This work intends to question the effectiveness of social labeling in a social marketing approach. Using four experimental studies, we test the relevance of the method in the areas of citizenship and taxes (studies 1.1 & 1.2), students drug and alcohol use (study 2), and children environmental awareness (study 3). We show that the technique can be effective in a social communications approach, but requires an appropriate understanding of the application context

Texte intégralIn a time of political upheaval in the Germanies and France, the transmission of historical knowledge underwent a profound transformation that affected its aims, its contents as well as its methods. In earlier periods, history was a collection of examples written as a guide for future sovereigns in order to compensate for their lack of experience. Between 1760 and 1800, an increasing proportion of the population was integrated into the political sphere, especially through gradual reforms in education in the emerging nation states. German and French authors copied, rewrote, synthesized, compiled and expanded upon one another's handbooks or children's books. They also reused and updated older teaching material, thus helping to redefine citizenship. Two forms of historical representation are analyzed: firstly, collections of exemplary stories – and through them the changing relationships between morality and politics. Secondly, such educational tools as timelines and more elaborated forms of historical overviews highlight the links between political models and the presentation of historical facts. Between emancipation and discipline, both forms induced different uses and reading modes from educator and pupil respectively. These uses could be modified according to the functions assigned to the transmission of history in the various political contexts: the training of future officials, the awakening of patriotic enthusiasm in the citizen-soldier or the introduction to a critical reading of the press for young adults – functions that implied a wide range of inclusive or exclusive definitions of citizenship

Texte intégralThis master thesis seeks to demystify the diverse experiences of youth in New Caledonia and explores the manifestations of agency by a particular group of young Kanak as they take part in a “collective form of existence” (vivre ensemble) in New Caledonia. The group is composed of young men and women of Koné involved in associations governed by the law established on July 1st 1901 and whose activities primarily revolve around a house located in the Cigales neighbourhood and it’s household. The analysis reveals that youth experiences and practices cannot be reduced to the representations put forward by dominant discourses. These, in fact, wrongly portray young Kanak as being trapped in an unchanged and immobile ancestral culture, and focus primarily on their inadequacy in today’s world as well as on their problems. It is argued that young Kanak possess creative capacities, want to contribute to society and aspire, for most of all, to take an active and vocal part in it. This research further shows that their experiences and initiatives must be contextualised, meaning considered in relation to the contemporary “situation” (social, political and economic) brought by the Nouméa Accord of 1998 according to which these are shaped. Keywords: Kanak, New Caledonia, Youth, shared destiny, citizenship, everyday life, urban milieu, indigenous people.

Texte intégralReferring to citizenship as an element that structures one's relationship to the other in the public sphere and thereby structures the social and political life of a country calls for one to reflect on ways of being and living together in our contemporary societies. Different historic and national traditions of immigrant population's integration into the State can be understood according to the manner in which individuals of immigrant-origin conceive of citizenship and acquire it. And analyzing the modalities by which each individual of immigrant origin grasps and expresses his or her own condition of citizen, it is possible to understand dynamics and identity-related behaviour which take into account the type of relationship those individuals establish with the country of residence and the country of origin, as well as with their cultures; in short it is possible to define the type of citizen which results from these relationships. Moreover, it is precisely in that framework that this research finds it ultimate sense and motivation. In the course of this research we have tried to understand how the youth imagine what it means for them «to be a citizen », how they position themselves in the public space in relationship to other citizens and institutions which comprise their nation, how they manage the different ties that have been maintained between their heritage and their present life, between the country which has seen their birth and growing up (the country of residence) and the country where they know they have their roots (the country of origin); in short, what types of ties and relationships they establish with the society. Ln order to examine methodologically and sociologically this question, we have constructed a typology which references three models or specific systems of civic actions and images: the societal citizen, the composite citizen, and the latent citizen

Texte intégralThis study is an analysis of representations of food in tales and picture books for children under six years old. Balanced diet, gargantuan meals, unverifiable devoration, or food discoveries, food is staged to define its diverse meanings. Even if food is either a source of pleasure or a risk for health in children books, they allow to show all the faces of food intake and its main sociocultural stakes. As media, the picture book is a social, symbolic and significant object which participates in a particular symbolic incorporation. Also, food representations with adults reveal the complexity of the omnivorous eater, particularly when it is about children. These are perceveid as an oger to be controlled or to be taught moderation, for their well being. There is reflexivity and selfcontrol in adults food practices which will act on their child representation in front of food

Texte intégralCivic education targets an increase in political knowledge and civic engagement in all its ways. That school topic was taught in Quebec until recently in the HEC (histoire et éducation à la citoyenneté) classes, which were mandatory from grade 1 until grade 10. No public study has been done regarding those classes and their effects up to now. After collecting data among 14 10th-grade HEC teachers and 1,369 11th-grade students, this thesis shows that a high or low presence of civic education in HEC – as perceived by teachers and students – has no significant impact on political knowledge, political interest and intention to turn out later for 11th-grade Quebec students. The reasons behind that lack of effect may be due to relatively uniform low presence of civic education in Quebec schools or the diversity of teachers each student gets during his or her school years. Moreover, a multilevel analysis shows that students’ intention to turn out later, political interest and political knowledge vary much more at the individual level than depending on the classroom they belong to.

Texte intégralThe current study aims at grasping the basis of student's sex life in the city of Abidjan. In Côte d'ivoire, sex education has been taught in schools for over a decade. According to the Department of Education, students' sexual behaviour is determined by the information they are given. In fact, the purpose of sex education is to change their sex life and therefore prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases such as Aids. But since it does not control the social phenomena which influence these young men's sexual attitudes, sex education in schools cannot achieve its goal. Thus, in addition to the educational sector, one has to examine life in urban areas in order to understand students' sexuality. That is why we visited different spheres including households, peers, religion, the media, as well as schools. Now, if these factors can shape sexual behaviour we can notice that they are sometimes contradictory. Some of them do not influence attitudes. They do not interfere in the development of sexual behaviours. What is more, every student will have a different attitude according to his own past and personality. Therefore, we come to the conclusion that these social factors are not relevant in understanding the students' sex life. To know why they behave in different ways and apprehend the determining factors of their sexual behaviour, one has to consider every students' personal development. Indeed, it is through the observation of personal developments that an event can appear suddenly. This has such an impact on the student that it may also bring along changes in his sex life. Consequently, a new perspective on life as well as sexual behaviour comes to light

Texte intégralThrough a qualitative study based on minute exploration of 36 detailed interviews among French youth of Maghreb origin, this study is trying to point out the various ways in which these youth combine their multiple feelings of belonging and make theirs the French model of citizenship. The study leads to the setting up of a "mapping" of the "ordinary" citizenship among these people and points to the variety of the empirical ranges in that field. Three types come out : the inheritors (les héritiers), the contractors (les contractants), and the neo-ethnics (les néocommunautaires). This leads us to reconsider the usual, and up to recent times dominant conception of citizenship, and to think about how citizenship can be invigorated. The people interviewed invent for themselves new norms of belonging to a whole, which include, go beyond, or subvert national belonging. .

Texte intégralThe program presented in relation to the formation on citizenship between Mexican youngsters, searches to formulate an alternative educational model for young people, men and women, as empowered persons having the capability to act freely and with responsibility in their lives, recognizing the other as different. The text includes two sections. In the first one, the concepts analyzed include : democratic culture and gendered citizenship's formation, the actual conditions of democracy and citizenship in Mexico, the concept of difference as the main axe to fund a new paradigm of thinking - particularly the notion of sexual difference - and, finally, a discussion on the possibilities of using a disposal of small consciousness-raising groups to learn to accept and tolerate difference(s). The second part, relating to the applied method for the intervention in an educational institution, includes a description and a discussion of the activities realized with the young men and women in the groups, having a number of 20 participants in average with an adult facilitator, during four sessions of 2 hours each, around issues related to the relationship between the sexes

Texte intégralThis thesis studies the effects of the uses of social networks on the political socialization of Brazilian high school students. The goal of the research is to observe how high schoolers address, by their grassroots practices, political subjects on their Facebook profile pages. The question that guided this study is: how do the personal Facebook profile pages contribute to the political socialization of high schoolers? The hypothesis was that youngsters build their opinions and values throughout the process of constructing their digital identities. They search for recognition from the other members of their group or of the group they wish to belong to. These youngsters affirm their political positions and their values by selecting information on internet and retaining those which are necessary for their recognition. The empirical research took place in the northeastern region of Brazil from November 2014 to July 2017, during a period of political polarization regarding Dilma Rousseff's government (Labour Party). Data is drawn from an online ethnography and semi-structured interviews with a group of high schoolers who live in the same town: João Pessoa. The results point that the relevance of social networks for the political socialization of youngsters lies not only on the possibility to be in touch with a great diversity of opinions and world views but also on the fact that they allow the construction of a self image that shapes the political experiences of social media users. The online political participation, specially those of youngsters who expose themselves the most, is linked to their need of having their online identity recognized. The need to preserve a self-image tends to impose a certain organization of values that conform to the demands of the students' target public

Texte intégralThe PhD dissertation aims to study a fragment of the mobilizations led by people with a North African origin. More specifically, it relates to Zaâma d’Banlieue and the Jeunes Arabes de Lyon et Banlieue (1979-1998). It relies on one observation: the formation of a specific space articulated around a category, the individuals with North African background; a network of individuals and organisations; an issue, the enunciation of the group experience; some relevant themes of mobilization and rhetoric registers which enhances the autonomy and the loyalty to the “hidden text”. It assessment extends an approach in terms of “space of social movements”. Based on a socio-historical approach and a qualitative research (interviews, archives, press), the study combines a socio-history of the migration with the sociology of social movements. It aims to enrich the analysis of concrete operations of mobilization by attention to social, historical and political configurations in which it takes place. It offers a suitable device to take into account the predominance of affinitive ties within the internal economy of theses organisations, their blurred boundaries and the multiposition of theses members by paying attention to the flows

Texte intégralYoung pre-teens attending junior high schools are going through a very delicate period: they are not just engaged in a new and more complex school career, but they are also engaged in their daily tasks of training and negotiating their identities and their roles in the different peer groups. This complex scenario is expanded by their first experiences, far from the eyes of adults, with technologies: tools that add, on the relational universe just described, an existential dimension that opens up new forms of communication mediated by digital contexts. Do technologies have an influence between on the relational dynamics that take place between students and their peers and between students and teachers? Which kind of influence? What dynamics are involved? What kind of technology is at stake? Is there a relationship of influence between the relationships mediated by the digital contexts and the social climate of a learning environment? What kind of influence? How much do students rely on digital-enriched relationships to satisfy their relationship needs? What perception do students and teachers have of relational dynamics mediated by digital contexts? And what role do they give to the school in this problem? To try to provide an answer to these questions, the research presents a phenomenology of the witness of 21 teachers and 365 boys and girls who are part of 4 schools, in two cities and in two different countries: France and Italy

Texte intégralThe territories and the socio-spatial relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Québec are changing. Those changes take place in meeting sites connected to processes of becoming political and becoming citizens. The involvement of young Indigenous peoples with the Wapikoni mobile project is part of these processes. The Wapikoni mobile is an indigenous video training project that addresses the First Nations communities of Québec. Through this project, which offers workshops to people between the ages of 15 and 30, certain young people are taught to produce and direct films. In addition, some are invited to show their creations in public events and venues in Québec and abroad. Since 2004, the Wapikoni mobile has reached over 2400 participants, produced 500 videos and has won over sixty prizes. Through the concept of citizenship, this investigation has sought to examine the spaces of dialogue opened for and by indigenous youth of Québec through the Wapikoni mobile. The research attempted to understand the sites, practices and relationships developed through their speech acts, and to reveal the changes of which they are part. It shows that the trajectories of these young people are limited by political and economical contexts at multiple scales, but that nevertheless serves to appropriate sites and relations that reterritorialize spaces of representation(s) and visibility. Those modifications come, in part, from multi-vocal and multi-directional relationships of dialogue and by the creation of emergent territories of citizenship.
