Résumé :
Abstract: What is Yoga? How is Self-realization achieved through Yoga? The great Sage Pātañjali (3rd Century B.C.) defined yoga in the Yoga-Sūtras as “the restraint of the modifications of the mind” (yogaś-citta-vritti-nirodah). In his Yoga-Sūtras (196 sutras), Pātañjali systematically laid down the exact methods and techniques for attaining Self-realization through the Eight Limbs of Pātañjali’s Yoga (Ashtānga-yoga). This system is commonly known as Rāja-yoga (Royal yoga). This Eight Steps is the way to attain self-transcendence. It consists of yama, niyama, āsanas, prānāyāma, pratyāhāra, dhāranā, dhyāna and samādhi. This article will focus on Ashtānga-yoga in the practical and philosophical contexts. Other systems of yoga also use this Eight Steps, but each yoga may start from and emphasize different aspects of yoga. However all systems of yoga accept and practice the Eight Steps of yoga to achieve the final goal, that is liberation (kaivalya, moksha, mukti). Yoga also reconciles the six systems of Indian Philosophy (Shadh Darśana).

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Backgrund: A growing body of evidence suggests that activity of the stress-responsive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and its end-product cortisol also may be associated with perinatal emotional well-being. A number of preventive interventions, such as Yoga, targeting psychosocial and physiological risk factors for perinatal depression have utilized mind-body practices, which embody the idea that the mind interacts with the body to influence physical functioning, improve symptoms, and promote health. This study aimed to investigate effectiveness of prenatal yoga in reducing cortisol hormone in pregnancy Subjects and Method: This was a meta-analysis and systematic review. This study collected published articles during 2000 to 2020 from PubMed, Science Direct, Springer, Proquest, and Chocrane electronic databases. The inclusion criteria were full text, randomized controlled trial, and prenatal yoga intervention. The study subjects were pregnant women who received prenatal yoga for 8 to 20 weeks. Outcome was cortisol hormone reduction during pregnancy. The selected articles were analyzed by PRISMA flow chart and RevMan 5.3. Results: 5 articles from America and Asia were met the inclusion criteria. This study had high heterogeneity (I2=88%; p<0.001). Therefore, this study used random effect model (REM). Prenatal yoga reduced cortisol level 0.59 times in pregnancy (Mean Difference= -0.59; 95% CI= 1.18 to 0.01; p= 0.050). Conclusion: Prenatal yoga is effective to reduce cortisol level in pregnant women. Keywords: prenatal yoga, cortisol hormone, pregnant women Correspondence: Shiva Aflahiyah. Résumé :
ABSTRACT Background: The accelerated pace of physical and psychological changes during pregnancy can cause discomfort for pregnant women. Several studies claimed that maternal stress, depression, and anxiety level have a negative impact on birth outcomes. Yoga is a well-known exercise for emotional relaxation therapy. This study aimed to investigate the benefits of prenatal yoga exercise during pregnancy. Subjects and Method: A scoping review method was conducted in eight stages including (1) Identification of study problems; (2) Determining priority problem and study question; (3) Determining framework; (4) Literature searching; (5) Article selection; (6) Critical appraisal; (7) Data extraction; and (8) Mapping. The search included Willey Online library, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases. The inclusion criteria were English-language, full-text, and free access articles published between 2009 and 2019. The selected articles were appraised by Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools. The data were reported by the PRISMA flow chart. Results: A total of 2,232 articles obtained from the search database, in which 2,093 articles were irrelevant, 95 duplicates, and 24 articles unmet inclusion criteria were excluded. Based on the selected 20 articles, eleven articles obtained A grade, and nine articles obtained B grade with quantitative (RCT, quasi-experiment, cross-sectional) and qualitative (focus group discussion) study designs. For main thematic findings reviewed were physical, psychological, labor process, and fetal benefits of prenatal gentle yoga exercise during pregnancy. Conclusion: Prenatal gentle yoga exercise has benefits for both mother and fetus, especially the psychological well-being of mothers by reducing stress and anxiety. Among the symptoms that patients with MS may develop, depression stands out, which is associated with an important decline in quality of life. The presence of this symptom is associated with a worse prognosis. There is much support in the literature of the positive role that non-pharmacological measures play in controlling depression in patients with MS, with a range of options for the patient to choose from. Objectives: To analyze studies that deal with non-pharmacological therapeutic strategies against depression in patients with MS. Methods: This scientific article was written in the form of an integrative literature review, which used the databases of the Scielo and the PubMed as a source of extraction of publications. The keywords used were: “Multiple sclerosis”, “Depression” and “Complementary Therapies”’. Among the inclusion criteria, articles were included between the years 2015 and 2020, published in English or Portuguese, available in full and in the form of meta-analyzes, systematic reviews and randomized clinical trials. Résumé :
This study investigated principal’s mentoring skill as a correlate of teachers’ job performance in Senior Secondary Schools in Adamawa State, Nigeria. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0. 05 level of significance. The study employed a correlational research design. The population of the study included 5,558 academic personnel (i.e. 337 school principals and 5,221 teachers) in senior secondary schools that are stationed in all the five education zones in Adamawa state. The sample size for this study was 556 academic personnel (i.e. 522 teachers and 34 principals) that were selected using multistage sampling technique. A questionnaire titled “Principal Mentoring Skill and Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (PMSTJPQ)” was used to collect data. The instrument was validated by three experts from the department of Physical Sciences Education of the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola; and also trial tested using Cronbach Alpha that revealed a co-efficient of 0.82. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation method (PPMC) and Multiple Correlation Analysis were used for testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study were that there was a significant high positive relationship between principals’ mentoring of teachers in instructional leadership and teachers’ job performance (as, r = 0.919, p < 0.05). Also, that there was a significant high positive relationship between principals’ mentoring of teachers in career development and teachers’ job (as, r = 0.938, p < 0.05). Similarly, principals’ mentoring of teachers’ instructional leadership and career development correlates significantly of teachers’ job performance in senior secondary schools in Adamawa state, Nigeria with F (2, 546) = 2007.79, p = 0.00. As a result, it was concluded, that principals’ mentoring of teachers in instructional leadership and career development correlates significantly of teachers’ job performance in senior secondary schools in Adamawa state, Nigeria.
