Within recent Japanese Buddhist scholarship there is a debate over the interpretation of Karmic causality evidenced in the 75 and 12 fascicle editions of Dogen's Shobogenzo, one salient example being that found in the daishugyo and shinjin inga fascicles on the fox koan from the mumonkon. At issue is whether a Buddhist of great cultivation transcends karmic causality, with the earlier daishugyo promoting a balanced perspective of both "not falling into" and "not obscuring" causality, while shinjin inga instead strongly favors the latter over the former. Traditionalists interpret the apparent reversal in shinjin inga as an introductory simplification to aid novices, while some Critical Buddhists see Dogen as instead returning to the orthodox truth of universal causality. I argue that Dogen philosophically favored the view found in daishugyo, but moved away from it in his later teachings due to misinterpretations made by both senior and novice monks alike.

The capacity for creative thought is of utmost importance for the survival and furtherance of humanity. Luckily, creative thought is the most essential aspect of humanity; it is what defines us. Unfortunately, we have created a society that tries to make us forget that. I am building a body of work that encourages mindfulness and heightens awareness. Awareness of self and mindfulness in everyday activities are prerequisites to social and spiritual evolution. I want nothing less than to expand human consciousness. 108 Kōans occurred over a period of time that I devoted to maintaining a "beginner's mind." During that time, 108 evidences of this practice were produced. These are my kōans. They are events, observations, sounds, interventions, texts, images, scripts, objects, rearrangements, etc.--experiments in recontextualization that attempt to remind people of the ability they have to recontextualize their everyday. If we can become aware of our everyday habits and assumptions and experiences--the mundane thoughts and actions that make up the bulk of who we are--then we will realize that there are other ways of being that are available to us. This awareness will then extend to examinations of cultural, social, and institutional habits. People cannot imagine another way of existence for society until they can imagine another way of being themselves. We must become literate in the language of creativity. We must celebrate our self as one with the Universe and realize that the nature of the Universe is change.

As histórias em Quadrinhos (HQs), veículos artísticos de comunicação, podem ser comerciais ou autorais e de conteúdo adulto, embora, até hoje tenham sido mal interpretadas. Elas podem também descrever claramente os percalços evolutivos da sociedade humana em todos os setores, principalmente na ciência, refletindo paradigmas ou vaticinando novos conceitos, além de servirem como divulgadoras dos ideários autorais. O Koan é uma técnica oriental utilizada pelos zen-budistas, que tem paralelo com a física Quântica, a qual emprega como metáfora para exemplificar suas teorias e novas descobertas, aproximando os questionamentos da ciência ocidental aos conceitos paradoxais da filosofia oriental, como se pode ver no livro o Tao da Física do cientista Fritjof Capra. Este trabalho se propõe a apontar as HQs autorias destinadas ao público adulto que contenham o Koan em suas estruturas narrativas, indicando uma possível importância implicada tanto nestes conceitos como na propagação dos mesmos pelas HQs, para a evolução científico-social dos seres humanos.

Koan in an oriental techic used by zen budhists, and it has parallel with Quantic Physics, which uses koan as a mataphor to explain its concepts and is new discoveries, nearing occidental science inquiring to paradoxal concepts of the oriental philosophy, as can seen in the book The Tao of Phisics, by Scientist Fritjof Capra. The objective of this study is to show the existence of Koans in those comics, pointing to an implicated importance possible to the sociaal-scientific evolution of the human beings in both of these concepts and their propagation by Comics.

Resumo: Nos últimos vinte anos, metrópoles de todo o mundo passaram a conviver com novas manifestações no contexto das chamadas "artes gráficas de rua". Além do Grafite e da Pichação – conhecidos desde o início dos anos setenta -, as ruas ganharam outras obras, baseadas direta ou indiretamente na utilização do papel. Essas expressões, que podem ser identificadas como estênceis, lambes (cartazes), stickers (adesivos), formas híbridas e formas tridimensionais, possuem características materiais e imateriais próprias, que possibilitam situá-las em uma categoria específica. Neste trabalho, buscamos, inicialmente, localizá-las em um panorama histórico de desenvolvimento das artes gráficas e plásticas de rua. Para isso, adotamos um construto teórico produzido a partir das perspectivas de Michel Maffesoli e Masssimo Canevacci. Esse construto parte da hipótese de que essas obras são a forma mais recente de uma objetivação ou exteriorização subjetiva arcaica, nascida da oposição x composição de dois pulsões, de Potência – criativo, disruptivo, lúdico, neotribal e eXtremo –, e de Poder – organizador, normativo, institucional e extremo. No mesmo processo de localização das formas baseadas no papel, buscamos estabelecer-lhes um estatuto baseado em suas características materiais e imateriais, nas diferenças em relação ao grafite e à pichação e nas semelhanças que as aproximam. Na medida em que esses trabalhos parecem afetar de forma peculiar o psiquismo do observador não-especializado – com um fenômeno que identificamos como troca de registro psíquico -, procuramos investigar a relação criador-obra-observador, partindo de uma perspectiva baseada no diálogo entre proposições teóricas de Maffesoli, Canevacci, Georg Simmel e Vilém Flusser. Para descrever a troca de registro psíquico nas obras baseadas no papel, nos aproximamos de um fenômeno semelhante descrito por teólogos e pesquisadores (inclusive, neurocientistas) do Budismo, a chamada "Iluminação Súbita" ou Prajna/Kensho x Satori. A partir do cruzamento entre a localização histórica e de élan das formas baseadas no papel, seus possíveis efeitos sobre o psiquismo do observador não especializado e nossa própria experiência de observação – que, ao longo de dois anos e meio, nos permitiu constituir uma coleção imagética de cerca de 3.200 imagens -, investigamos o fenômeno em um cenário metropolitano, o de Curitiba, no período compreendido entre os anos de 2007 a 2009. Produzido a partir de ferramentas digitais, esse processo abrangeu o mapeamento das formas em Curitiba – que permitiu descobrir áreas de prevalência e também certas configurações locais – e a identificação de alguns artistas, feita com uma técnica que denominamos investigação por indícios. Juntos, os dois direcionamentos – "cartográfico" e "microscópico" – possibilitaram o estabelecimento de um perfil das artes gráficas e plásticas baseadas no papel na cidade de Curitiba no recorte temporal da pesquisa.
Abstract: In the last twenty years, big cities all around the world started to live with new manifestations in the so called "graphic street art". Besides the graffiti and "pichação"– that are known since the beginning of the 1970s – the streets were given new works, based directly or indirectly in the use of the paper. These expressions can be identified as stencils, posters and stickers, hybrid and tridimensional forms with their own material and immaterial characteristics which can place them in a specific category. In this work, we initially tried to place them in a historic perspective of the developing of the graphic and plastic art on the streets. We used a theoretical construct produced from the Michel Maffesoli and Massimo Canevacci’s perspectives. This construct theorizes that these works are the most recent form of an archaic objectification or exteriorization, born from the opposition x composition of two drives, Potency – creative, disruptive, playful, neotribal and eXtreme – and Power – organizing, normative, institutional and extreme. In the same process of localizing the paper based forms, we tried to give them a statute based on their material and immaterial characteristics, in the differences regarding graffiti and "pichação" and the resemblances that bring them together. Since these works seem to affect the non-specialized observer psyche in a peculiar way – with a phenomenon we had identified as psychic registry exchange – we tried to investigate the relation creator x work x observer. It was made in theoretical terms, from a perspective based on the dialog of the Maffesoli, Canevacci, Georg Simmel and Vilém Flusser’s theoretical propositions. To describe the psychic registry exchange in the paper works, we used a similar approach used by theologians and researchers (including neuroscientists) of the Buddhism, called "Sudden Awareness" or Prajna/Kensho x Satori.From the crossing between the historical localization and élan of the paper based forms, their possible effects on the psyche of the non specialized observer and our own observation experience – that in two and half years allowed us to build a collection of more than 3,200 images – we investigated the phenomenon in a metropolitan scenario, Curitiba, in the period compressed between 2007 and 2009. Produced through digital tools, this process comprised the mapping of the forms in Curitiba – which allowed us to discover areas of prevalence and also some local configurations – and the identification of some artists; from a technique we called investigation from indicia. Together, the two directions – "cartographic" and "microscopic" – made possible the establishment of a paper based graphic and plastic arts profile in Curitiba and in the research timeframe.

I mitt projekt ville jag använda mig av den skogsmark som finns på och runtom tomten. Jag ville att den nya skolan skulle integrera med skogen. Skolan i skogen, eller skogen i skolan. En skolvardag uppe bland träden och nere i marknivå. I utformningen och planeringen inspererades jag av "kojan" och hade ambitionen att byggnaden skulle vara en fridfull, men samtidigt en lekfull och inspirerande plats som ska kunna ge energi och motivation till eleverna. I utformningen så har ambitionen varit att skapa platser för koncentration, men också platser som ska gynna kreativiteten. I byggnaden finner man också genomgående element hämtat från "kojans" kvaliteter såsom "kryp in", "uppe bland träden", växtlighet, klättra. Materialet är helt i trä. Konstruktionen är pelare och balkar, där taket består av trianglar i diamant struktur som böljar genom hela byggnaden. Detta för att skapa en spänning, dynamik, lekfullhet, energi och en ambition att hitta ett intressant förhållningssätt till "kojan" och naturens formspråk.

Dagens städer förtätas och marken blir allt mer dyrbar.  Det leder till att grönområden byggs bort och de fria ytorna mellan husen minskar. Barn är de som prioriteras sist när städerna växer. Förskolor får allt mindre yta, framför allt gården och utemiljön blir lidande. Speciellt i nya stadsdelar syns tydliga exempel denna utveckling. Forskning visar att barn mår bra av att vistas i naturen, men många får tyvärr inte möjlighet  till detta. I förskolan ser man många fördelar av att låta barnen spendera en stor del av sin tid utomhus. Att aktivt arbeta med utomhuspedagogik är att ge barnen en jämställd lekmiljö och samtidigt säkerställa att fria ytor prioriteras för barn i staden. Jag vill skapa en förskola med rötterna i utomhuspedagogiken, anpassad för barn  som växer upp i stadsmiljö och därmed saknar natur och stora ytor där det är säkert att vistas. Hur kan man få ut så mycket utemiljö som möjligt på en begränsad yta, samtidigt som  en kvalitativ inomhusmiljö bibehålls?  Det har varit min utgångspunkt i arbetet med förskolan; att skapa förutsättningar  som kan appliceras på förskolor runt om i staden där det råder brist på yta  tillägnad barnen i området. Om utemiljön är central i verksamheten måste den få ta plats. Det får den inte idag.
As cities today are becoming increasingly densified, the land is getting more and more valuable. Green space between buildings are decreasing and those who suffer the most from this  are the children. This development can especially be seen in newly exploited areas.  Studies show that children benefit from spending time outdoors, but not everyone  gets the opportunity to do so. In pre school many advantages can be discovered in children who spend most of their day outside. To work with outdoor learning is to give children an equal environment and ensure that space is prioritized.  I want to create a pre school, with roots in outdoor learning, adapted for children who grow up in an urban environment and therefor lack space safe for children. How can I maximize  the outdoor space in this project and at the same time maintain all the qualities  inside the pre school.  My main goal has been to find solutions that can be applied to pre schools which are lacking in outdoor space. If the surroundings of pre school is central to its operations, it has to be given space. That is not the case today.

Two transmissions of the Qur'an can be found in printed copies today. One stems from Kufa and the other from Medina. They are more commonly called by the names of their respective second-century transmitters, Hafs and 'Wars. This thesis examines the relationship between these two transmissions, as exemplified in the first five suras. The Hafs transmission is found in printed Qur'an copies from all but West and North-West Africa, which employ the War transmission. The Hafs transmission is therefore the transmission found in the vast majority of printed copies of the Qur'an, and printed copies of the 'Wars transmission are rare in comparison. There is no doubt that copies according to other transmissions have existed as well, but none has apparently been printed. The Basrans al—Xalil and Sibawayhi, for instance, had texts that differed in places from both the Hafs and 'Wars transmissions. And the existence of manuscripts according to the Basran reading-system of abu 'Amr by way of al—Duri has been testified in the Sudan this century. The Qur'an according to this last transmission has in fact been printed at the head and side of the pages of editions of al—Zamaxari's commentary a1—Kaf, but these are not considered by Muslims as Qur'an copies proper. They are type-set and have occasional misprints, and at times do not tally with data on the reading-system of abu 'Amr given in works on Qur'an readings. Qur'an copies according to transmissions such as these or others might therefore still exist in manuscript, but would not readily be consultable. So it would be of use to document differences between those transmissions that actually are available in print. On a general level, this provides a step towards a critical apparatus of the Qur'an, and on a more specific one, it provides the data for this thesis.

Kohn-Sham density functional theory (DFT) is the most widely used method in quantum chemistry. It has the potential to provide accurate results at low computational cost. The quality of a DFT calculation is determined by the exchange-correlation energy functional. Hybrid functionals, which contain a fraction of exact orbital exchange, are extensively used due to their accuracy in a variety of applications. However, as commonly implemented, these functionals are outside the Kohn-Sham scheme, since the exchange operator is not a local multiplicative potential. In order to handle orbital dependent functionals correctly, schemes which determine a local multiplicative potential must be employed. The implementation and application of several such methods is the focus of this thesis. In Chapter 1 we outline the Hartree-Fock scheme, which defines the exchange energy, and overview wavefunction based procedures that recover correlation energy. Alternative theories based on the electron density are then considered and the foundations of modern DFT are reviewed. The formalism of the optimized effective potential (OEP) method is introduced, which is the rigorous way to handle orbital dependent functionals. A number of approximations to the exchange only OEP method are outlined in Chapter 2 and their implementation is described. The methods are applied to the calculation of NMR shielding constants, highlighting differences between the approximations; their use in the construction of multiplicative hybrid functionals is also considered. In Chapter 3 these approximations are further investigated in the calculation of excited states and structural perturbations. In Chapter 4, the theory and implementation of a direct optimization procedure to determine OEPs is outlined, along with an implementation of the constrained search procedure, which allows the determination of the Kohn-Sham exchange-correlation potential from any input density. Chapter 5 compares the performance of the approximate exchange potentials with those of OEP, highlighting the presence of correlated character in some of the approximate methods. The OEP implementation is extended to include hybrid exchange-correlation functionals in Chapter 6. The performance of these methods for the calculation of NMR shielding constants, rotational g tensors and transition metal NMR chemical shifts is investigated. In all cases, substantial improvements over conventional results are obtained. In Chapter 7 DFT is used to investigate an interaction of relevance in organic chemistry. Concluding remarks are given in Chapter 8.

The team performed an in-depth analysis on the casual dining restaurant, Kona Grill (NASDAQ: KONA). The overall analysis took a top-down approach. First, macroeconomic conditions and trends pertaining to the restaurant industry were analyzed. Next, a comprehensive financial analysis was performed on Kona Grill and its closest competitors. Finally, various absolute and relative valuation techniques were performed to determine the intrinsic value of the stock, which came out to $8.29. The study extracts themes from ten documentary films about disabled poor individuals produced and broadcast in the television documentary series Kon Kon Kon in Thailand during 2007-2011. Recurrent themes are those focusing on individual performance and personal characteristics of resourcefulness, patience and positive attitude. These themes are argued here as demonstrating common themes of human interest stories which aim at agency empowerment or at encouraging self-change in order to gain control over structural constraints or predicaments. Such stories of personal triumphs and struggles are a main feature of media in late modernity. Late modernity is a period when human beings gain a central role and individuals are given autonomy to construct identities when those issued by traditional meta-structures such as religion, nation or gender are competing and none can hold exclusive authority any longer. However, human interest media texts represent part of a late modern contradiction: the belief in the rights of self-assertion yet the inefficient address on structural conditions conducive to the actualisation of such rights. The study then provides a commentary to the human interest stories/films about the disabled poor in Thailand. It outlines the physical and ideational conditions that contribute to poverty and social injustice experienced by a large number of people in Thailand and, in turn, to the resourcefulness and resilience of many of poor people with disabilities, such as those featured in the films. The co-evolving structural conditions relating to economic liberalism since the 1960s, the structures and politics of welfare, and socio-cultural ideologies of self-help and individualism are discussed as weaving positions and relations that the poor with disabilities are situated in. These positions and relations both influence and interact with agency and other intrinsic factors of an individual such as the nature of impairment. Thus a cultural representation of an experience of living with disability should provide an intimation of how intrinsic factors of a person with disability, such as the nature of impairment, aspirations and competence, are to a large degree influenced by and at the same time actively interact with structural forces. The account then can avoid being both overly voluntaristic and fatalistic. The former places insurmountable responsibility on an individual to do well regardless of constraints, while the latter deprives an individual of a capacity to transform or even to be reflexive of any institutionalised social relations. The thesis provides a commentary to the films, hoping to facilitate the viewing of a surface event of a heroic act of a person with disability as neither purely individualistically nor socially determined, but rather as a result of an active interaction between the social structural conditions and agency both in the past and present of her/his life.

Screened structure constants are calculated by means of a repulsive reference system. Advantages and limits of this transformation of the formalism are discussed in detail. The numerical effort for self consistent electronic structure calculations of systems with a large prolonged supercell scales linearly with the system size. Systems with up to 500 atoms per unit cell can be treated easily. The accuracy of the new method is of the same order as the traditional KKR method. Applications to electronic structure calculations and magnetic interlayer exchange coupling in Co/Cu(100) multilayers are presented

Research on human resilience has attempted to uncover how certain individuals, even when faced with adverse working conditions can bounce back without serious psychological harm and continue their development. There is a paucity of information on the concept resilience as it pertains to professional nurses. Relevant information in this regard can equip nurses who are fleeing the profession, or who are becoming physically or mentally ill because they are not coping. Information on the prevalence of resilience in professional nurses and a better understanding of the coping skills and resilient adaptations of identified resilient professional nurses can lead to the formulation of guidelines with strategies for interventions that can facilitate growth in professional nurses and be of benefit to the health care service. This research investigated the prevalence of resilience in professional nurses and listened to the stories of identified resilient professional nurses in order to get a better understanding of their coping skills and resilient adaptations. The data was used to formulate broad guidelines with specific strategies that can be used by hospital managers for in-service training purposes and other programs to facilitate growth in professional nurses. The research was conducted in South Africa amongst nurses in private and public hospitals in the following suburban areas: Potchefstroom, Carletonvi1le, Randfontein and Krugersdorp. A sequential exploratory design was used where one phase is followed by another phase: the first phase was quantitative research conducted with validated psychometric instruments measuring aspects of resilience, namely: The Mental Health Continuum, The Coping Self-efficacy Scale, Sense of Coherence Scale, The Adult Dispositional Hope Scale. The Life Orientation Test-Revised, The Resilience Scale, and The General Health Questionnaire. The second phase was qualitative and explored the stories of the resilient professional nurses by requesting them to write their stories on how they manage to stay resilient and compassionate in the profession followed by focus group interviews also with resilient nurses. The prevalence of resilience in the professional nurses in the first phase indicated the following: 10% with low resilience, 47% as moderate and 43 % with high resilience, but with mostly negative feelings toward the profession and with many considering leaving their current job. The stories followed by focus group interviews with resilient professional nurses produced useful data that could be used to formulate guidelines with strategies for interventions to facilitate and enhance resilience and psycho-social well-being in professional nurses thereby improving the nursing profession and health care service overall.

Afin d’espérer développer une philosophie politique qui reconnaisse d’emblée notre interdépendance, nous travaillons dans une première partie à établir des hypothèses sur ce qu’on entend par réalité et sur notre accès à cette dernière. Une ontologie événementielle paraît compatible avec l’ontogénèse narrative qui nous constitue individuellement en constituant un « nous ». Il faut pour cela imaginer chacun s’imaginant le monde et apprenant au travers d’histoires, dans une logique inductive qui peut réconcilier la phénoménologie herméneutique d'une part et l’apprentissage statistique de l'autre. De ces histoires chacun tire des universaux, interprétables comme des composantes principales d’une analyse statistique factorielle de ces histoires qui nous constituent. Le temps joue un rôle clef dans la dynamique de cette constitution autant que dans celle des événements rassemblés dans ces histoires. L’enjeu est finalement de partager ces universaux dans une histoire commune, ou, à l’inverse, dans une rupture temporelle qui permet peut-être de mieux accéder à un monde commun. Nous travaillons alors dans une seconde partie la question du vivre ensemble avec les idées républicaines de liberté, d’égalité et de fraternité, et avec celles de pluralité et de confins. L’écologie politique que l’on aperçoit alors est aussi républicaine que libertaire. Dans ce cadre, la justice s’exprime par la justesse, la fidélité, la sensibilité et par une juste démesure. L’impératif catégorique s’y décline dans la nécessité de rendre les autres beaux, libres, et puissants et d’apprendre ensemble. Le Droit apparaît comme s’élaborant dynamiquement dans le temps même où s’élabore la Cité. La possibilité du radicalement nouveau travaillée dans la première partie autorise d’articuler la liberté et les institutions. In order to hope to develop a political philosophy that immediately recognizes our interdependence, we work in a first part to establish assumptions about what we mean by reality and our access to it. An event-based ontology seems compatible with the narrative ontogenesis which constitutes us individually by constituting a "we". This requires imagining everyone imagining the world and learning through stories, in an inductive logic that can reconcile hermeneutic phenomenology on the one hand and statistical learning on the other. From these stories each identifies universals, interpretable as principal components of a factorial statistical analysis of these stories that constitute us. Time plays a key role in the dynamics of this constitution as well as in the events gathered in these stories. The stakes are ultimately to share these universals in a common story, or, conversely, in a temporal break that may allow better access to a common world. We then work in a second part on the question of living together with republican ideas of freedom, equality and fraternity, and with those of plurality and boundaries. The political ecology that we see then is as republican as libertarian. In this context, justice is expressed by rightness, fidelity, sensitivity and a “fair excess”. The categorical imperative lies in the need to make others beautiful, free, and powerful, and to learn together. Law appears to develop dynamically in the very time that the City is developed. The possibility of the radically “new” worked in the first part allows articulating freedom and institutions. The logic of a code of honor ultimately allows not to surrender to the Almighty Reason without giving up the Enlightenment

The Qur'anic concept of ahl al-kitab ("People of the Book") has a theological significance for Muslims, showing a sympathetic perception of other religions, particularly Jews and Christians, who share the same monotheistic belief as Muslims. There are many references to abl al-kitab in the Qur'an which may be grouped into two categories: the sympathetic verses which give ahl al-kitab a status similar to that of Muslims and the ambivalent verses which condemn the ahl al-kitab. In this study, surat Al 'Imran (3): 64, 113, 114 and 115 are chosen as examples of sympathetic verses. Six major works of selected classical and modern exegesis, from different schools of thought, are used in the analysis of these verses. Classical exegetes do not suggest any development of the concept of ahl al-kitab, while the modern exegetes include all religious communities in addition to Jews, Christians and Muslims.
The Qur'an itself recognizes the existence of good people among the ahl al-kitab and invites people of diverse faiths to come to a "common word" (kalimatin sawa'in) to establish mutual understanding through critical dialogue. This would, in turn, enable all people to work together to build a new civilization and greater harmony. This thesis avails itself of the fundamental teachings of the Qur'an on ahl ak-kitab and of Muslims' exegesis, as well as secondary scholarship on this topic. The concept of ahl al-kitab is shown to have novel relevance for our religiously pluralist world both today and for the future.

This thesis aims to provide an in-depth study of the Makkan and Madinan revelations of the Qur'dn in terms of structure, themes, linguistic, stylistic and textual analysis of the sikas. The main objective of these analyses is to make the contents of the Qur'dn more accessible and easy to understand by the modem reader. Most importantly, the present study focuses on pivotal themes of the Qur'dn. Firstly to represent the context in which the revelations took place, an account of the historical background of the two towns Makka and Madina at the time of the Prophet himself is given. Also, the present study provides details on the inhabitants of these towns who were the main addressees of the Makkan and Madinan revelations. An overview of the Prophet Mubammad as an individuaL his tribal origins, and his social life in Makka until he got married and before his Message has also been given. The present discussion presents the Qur'dn in terms of its composition and its status as a Holy Scripture, compared to the previous other two Scriptures, the Old and the New Testaments. Thus, an insight into the Makkan suras has been provided: Outlines of its structure, themes, peculiarities, and textual analysis in terms of tenets of faith of some selected Makkan saras have been dealt with. Similarly, an insight into the Madinan sugras has also been provided along with structural, thematic and textual analysis of some selected Madinan sdras. Other concepts such as the 'coherence in the Qur'dn', 'nazm in the Qur'an' and 'ijaz al-Qur'an which are looked at in terms of conceptual chaining between adjacent suras and ayas have been developed in this study. Throughout our analysis of the Qur'dn, our aim is to deal with its suras and their classifications according to the descending order from the longest sura to the shortest ones rather than in terms of its chronological order of revelation. The present thesis provides intriguing comparative and contrastive analyses of the Makkan and Madinan suras from Muslim and non-Muslim perspectives. This study also provides 28 highly valuable observations about the study of the two phases of revelation. This provides a new insight into the analysis of the Qur'an and it points out a new direction in the analysis of Makkan and Madinan revelations. My approach has thus become different from classical classification of the suras. It is now based on suras structure, themes, text linguistics, etc.

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaiset tilanteet ja tekijät vaikuttavat myönteisesti tai kielteisesti opettajien kokemaan minäpystyvyyteen koulussa sekä millaisia opettajapystyvyyden ulottuvuuksia tutkimuksen aineistosta nousee esille. Lisäksi selvitetään, millaisia opettajaprofiileja tutkimukseen osallistuneiden opettajien minäpystyvyyden perusteella voidaan määrittää. Tutkimuksen teoriaosuudessa määritellään tutkielman keskeisin käsite, minäpystyvyys. Lisäksi syvennytään opettajapystyvyyden käsitteeseen ja sen muodostumiseen. Teoriaosiossa esitellään myös opettajapystyvyyden ulottuvuudet, jotka kuvaavat niitä keskeisiä tehtäviä, jotka ovat opettajan päivittäisessä työssä olennaisia ja vaikuttavat opettajien kokemaan minäpystyvyyteen. Tutkimuksen empiirinen osa on laadullinen kyselytutkimus. Aineiston keräämiseen käytetty kyselylomake koostui yhteensä seitsemästä avoimesta kysymyksestä, joilla kerättiin tietoa opettajien minäpystyvyyskäsityksistä työssään. Aineisto kerättiin tammikuussa 2017 sosiaalisessa mediassa Alakoulun aarreaitta -vertaisryhmässä, ja siihen vastasi kaiken kaikkiaan 79 opettajaa. Analyysimenetelmänä käytettiin pääasiassa laadullista sisällönanalyysiä, jossa aineistoa luokiteltiin ja jaettiin teemoihin. Tämän jälkeen aineistoa ryhmiteltiin vastaajakohtaisesti. Ryhmittelyn perusteella muodostettiin erityyppisiä opettajien minäpystyvyyttä kuvailevia opettajaprofiileja. Tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan opettajien minäpystyvyyskäsityksistä löytyi sekä samankaltaisuuksia että eroavaisuuksia. Vastauksista voitiin määrittää kuusi opettajapystyvyyden ulottuvuutta, jotka olivat opetus, oppilaiden yksilöllisten tarpeiden huomiointi, oppilaiden motivointi, työrauhan ylläpitäminen, moniammatillinen sekä kodin ja koulun välinen yhteistyö sekä muutoksiin suhtautuminen. Tulosten perusteella löytyi myös tekijöitä, jotka vaikuttivat opettajien kokemaan minäpystyvyyteen joko myönteisesti tai kielteisesti. Näitä olivat esimerkiksi työkokemuksen määrä, ryhmän koko, eroavat tai samanlaiset kasvatusnäkemykset sekä aineenhallinta. Lisäksi aineistosta hahmottui kuusi erilaista opettajaprofiilia opettajien kokeman minäpystyvyyden perusteella. Suurin osa opettajista koki minäpystyvyytensä hyväksi sekä opetus- että eriyttämistilanteissa, oppilaiden motivoinnissa, luokanhallinnassa, yhteistyötä vaativissa tilanteissa ja kohdatessaan muutoksia. Kuitenkin osa opettajista koki minäpystyvyytensä heikoksi, ja näillä opettajilla oli nähtävissä eniten myös työssäjaksamisen ongelmia. Tässä tutkimuksessa kyselyyn valikoiduttiin vapaaehtoisesti. Tulosten kannalta tämä voi tarkoittaa sitä, että heikoimman minäpystyvyyden opettajat ovat jättäytyneet tutkimuksesta pois.

Résumé :
Under de senaste decennierna har den vertikala segregeringen på arbetsmarknaden och den låga representationen av kvinnor på chefsbefattningar fått stor uppmärksamhet. Den här studien syftar till att undersöka könsskillnader i upplevda interna avancemangsmöjligheter, där ett delsyfte har varit att undersöka om närmaste chefens kön korrelerar med upplevda avancemangsmöjligheter för män och kvinnor. Den teoretiska ståndpunkten utgår från vanliga förklaringar till könsskillnader i lön och avancemangsmöjligheter: homosocial reproduktion, diskriminering och new home economics. Studien baseras på datamaterial från Levnadsundersökningen 2010, där urvalet består av män och kvinnor med en anställning och som är i åldrarna 20 till 60 år. Resultatet visar att en större andel män än kvinnor upplever att de har stora interna avancemangsmöjligheter. Vid justering för klass, humankapitalfaktorer och arbetsrelaterade faktorer i en multivariat regressionsanalys visar resultatet inte på några signifikanta skillnader mellan könen i upplevda avancemangsmöjligheter. Vid separata regressioner för en manlig närmaste chef och en kvinnlig närmaste chef visar resultatet däremot att det existerar könsskillnader i upplevda interna avancemangsmöjligheter vid en kvinnlig närmaste chef, där kvinnor har lägre sannolikhet att uppleva stora interna avancemangsmöjligheter, justerat för olika humankapitalfaktorer och arbetsrelaterade faktorer. Anmärkningsvärt är dock att det inte går att finna några signifikanta skillnader i upplevda interna avancemangsmöjligheter mellan kvinnor och män vid en manlig närmaste chef, justerat för olika humankapitalfaktorer och arbetsrelaterade faktorer.
