This essay aims to discuss the historiography metafictional in the books A Casca da Serpente, by José J. Veiga and Sete Léguas de Paraíso , by Antônio José de Moura, based on theoretical studies of Hayden White, George Lukács, Linda Hutcheon and Aristóteles, among others. Initially, discuss the conception of history and literature and their respective discourse. Then make a soon evolution of the novel, emphasizing the similarities and distinctions between the historical novel, and historiography metafiction. To be Worth to the features of this, especially the parody, irony and eccentricity, to analyze the novels selected in order to prove that the discourse historiography metafictional recurs in their plots, A Casca da Serpente , and Sete Léguas de Paraíso . Complementing this interpretation, we resorted to some aspects of symbolic and metaphorical in order to enhance and strengthen the proposed objectives. He drew a parallel between the narratives of the active corpus with reference to the theory explained by Bakhtin in Problems of Dostoevsky's poetics. At the end of the study, emerged as the literature has the power to subvert the story, transforming it into other discourses, making it take a new look, taking the reader to reflect and challenge the components of historiography discourse.
Esta dissertação tem como objetivo discutir a metaficção historiográfica nos livros A Casca da Serpente, de José J. Veiga e Sete Léguas de Paraíso, de Antônio José de Moura, baseando-se nos estudos teóricos de Hayden White, George Lukács, Aristóteles e Linda Hutcheon, dentre outros. Inicialmente discuti-se a concepção de história e literatura e seus respectivos discursos. Em seguida, faz-se uma breve evolução do romance, enfatizando as semelhanças e distinções existentes entre o romance histórico e a metaficção historiográfica. Valeu-se das características desta, em especial a paródia, a ironia e a excentricidade, para analisar os romances selecionados, de modo a comprovar que o discurso metaficcional historiográfico é recorrente nas respectivas tramas, A casca da serpente e Sete léguas de paraíso. Complementando essa interpretação, recorreu-se a alguns aspectos simbólicos e metafóricos de modo a realçar e reforçar os objetivos propostos. Traçou-se um paralelo entre as narrativas do corpus ativo com referência na teoria explicitada por Bakhtin em Problemas da poética de Dostoievski. No final do estudo, evidenciou-se como a literatura tem o poder de subverter a história, transformando-a em outros discursos, fazendo com que essa tome uma nova roupagem, levando o leitor a refletir e contestar os componentes do discurso historiográfico.

This work has a propose the redemption of regional sensibilities in the 1980s. The materiality of such feelings were found in the opinions and literary critics of the competition Exchange Publications "Hugo de Carvalho Ramos. Inside in of a thematic framework of cultural history sought to emphasize the dialogue between history and literature. It is emphasized in the text zoom in and out of such speeches, as well as its complementary relationship in the production of historical knowledge. The work also emphasizes the integration of literary criticism as a source for history, for it is pointed out some peculiarities that define its status as a stand-alone and text with specific aesthetic qualities. In addition, by working directly with literary texts we used the theory of reception as a way to explain how these texts have served as mediators between objective reality and the "world of the text" created by the fictional narrative. We made an overview of the Exchange Office, as well as some information about the writer Goias Hugo de Carvalho Ramos whose name was given to the stock as a way to honor the forerunner of regionalism in the state. Work verticalizes sensitivities as a representation of a specific temporality of history Goias. By focusing on emotions in relation to sensitive self and its reality, the sensitivities allow a form of knowledge of the world, making this a temporality disposed therefore to understand how men represented themselves and others. The texts (critical opinions) and (literary) were as marks of historicity, the reading of these sources could establish relations to reach another place where people expressed their feelings in many different ways. We decided to analyze literary works by dividing them according to genre (prose and poetry), then did the analysis of critical opinions. The reading of these sources revealed that nurture feelings relive a time unique, with remarkable presence of a regional identity with values and beliefs were associated with small-town atmosphere and simple country life. These specific situations have given their texts authors emphasize social and political critics.
Este trabalho tem como proposta o resgate das sensibilidades regionais na década de 1980. A materialidade de tais sentimentos foi encontrada nos pareceres críticos e obras literárias do concurso Bolsa de Publicações Hugo de Carvalho Ramos . Dentro de uma perspectiva temática da história cultural, procurou-se enfatizar o diálogo entre a história e a literatura. Ressaltam-se no texto as aproximações e distanciamentos de tais discursos, bem como sua relação de complementaridade na produção do conhecimento histórico. O trabalho destaca ainda a inserção da crítica literária como fonte para a história; pontuam-se, para isso, algumas singularidades que definem seu estatuto como um texto autônomo e com qualidades estéticas específicas. Além disso, por trabalhar diretamente com textos literários, utilizou-se a teoria da recepção como forma de esclarecer como esses textos serviram de mediadores entre a realidade objetiva e o mundo do texto criado pela narrativa de ficção. Procurou-se fazer um quadro geral da Bolsa de Publicações, bem como algumas informações a respeito do escritor goiano Hugo de Carvalho Ramos, cujo nome foi dado à bolsa, como forma de homenagear o precursor do regionalismo no Estado. O trabalho verticalizou as sensibilidades como representação de uma temporalidade específica da história goiana. Ao incidir sobre as emoções na relação do sensível do eu e sua realidade, as sensibilidades permitem uma forma de conhecimento do mundo, tornando presente uma temporalidade escoada, pois, permite entender como os homens representavam a si mesmos e aos outros. Os textos (pareceres críticos) e (obras literárias) apresentaram-se como marcas de historicidade, a leitura de tais fontes possibilitaram estabelecer relações para se alcançar um tempo em que as pessoas expressavam seus sentimentos das mais variadas formas. Optou-se por analisar as obras literárias dividindo-as de acordo com o gênero (prosa e poesia), em seguida procedeu-se à análise dos pareceres críticos. A leitura de tais fontes revelou sentimentos que oportunizaram reviver uma época singular, com presença marcante de uma identidade regional, cujos valores e crenças estavam associados ao ambiente interiorano e à vida simples do campo. Tais situações específicas proporcionaram aos autores enfatizarem em seus textos críticas políticas e sociais.

The present study has the purpose of bringing to light the work of José Godoy Garcia, In particular the book Rio do Sono (Sleep River) (1948). For this purpose, It was necessary to appeal to considerations about authors traditionally affiliated with Modernism, as Mário de Andrade, Manuel Bandeira and Carlos Drummond de Andrade. It was also necessary for us to locate the Modernism in Goiás and its relation to the publication of the various numbers of the magazine Oeste. The decisive role of Léo Lynce, Bernardo Élis, José Décio Filho and José Godoy Garcia so that the Modernism would gain place in Goiás was provided by such a press vehicle, seen as a true herald of the innovations proposed by such literary period. The texts published in the magazine demonstrate the climate of ideological conflict in which the State of Goiás was, Because there were some authors who were still attached to the past movements, publishing poems that mirrored characteristics of Parnassianism and Romanticism. This confluence of literary styles made us realize the hybrid panorama of our literature in the first half of the 20th Century. After verifying these formative aspects of Modernism in Goiás, We began to analyze the poetic construction and how all these factors influenced the work of José Godoy Garcia. We find that the author went beyond mere modernist fads, strongly exercising the role of literary critic and making evident the concern with the underprivileged, with the marginalized beings, with those who had no space in poetry. What we found, then, was a well-known author of his social role and master of his poetic practice, which made the poet to be recognized not only by his contemporaries, but also by other poets and other scholars of literature. We find that although he is not a goiano author with enormous commercial recognition, his works reflect well the maturity and conscience of those who knew how to measure the language appropriate to the poems, essays, short stories and other textual genres to which he appealed. In order to base our incursions on the work of Godoy Garcia, we use several theoretical contributions, among which we highlight: Afrânio Coutinho (1996), Antônio Geraldo Ramos Jubé (1978), Darcy França Denófrio (1996), Gilberto Mendonça Teles (1964), Humberto Eco (1979), Massaud Moisés (1974), Octávio Paz (1974) and Tzvetan Todorov (1978), to support this dissertation.
O presente estudo tem a finalidade de trazer à luz a obra de José Godoy Garcia, em especial o livro Rio do sono (1948). Para tal propósito, foi preciso que recorrêssemos a considerações sobre autores tradicionalmente filiados ao Modernismo, como Mário de Andrade, Manuel Bandeira e Carlos Drummond de Andrade. Também foi preciso que localizássemos o Modernismo em Goiás e a sua relação com a publicação dos vários números da revista Oeste. O papel decisivo de Léo Lynce, Bernardo Élis, José Décio Filho e José Godoy Garcia para que o Modernismo ganhasse corpo em Goiás foi propiciado por tal veículo de imprensa, visto como verdadeiro arauto das inovações propostas por tal período literário. Os textos publicados na revista demonstram bem o clima de embate ideológico no qual o Estado de Goiás se encontrava, pois havia alguns autores que ainda estavam presos aos tidos movimentos passadistas, publicando poemas que espelhavam características do Parnasianismo e do Romantismo. Esta confluência de estilos literários nos fez perceber o panorama híbrido de nossa literatura na primeira metade do Século XX. Depois de constatados esses aspectos formativos do Modernismo em Goiás, passamos a analisar a construção poética e como todos esses fatores citados influenciaram a obra de José Godoy Garcia. Verificamos que o autor foi além dos meros modismos modernistas, exercendo fortemente o papel de crítico literário e deixando evidente a preocupação com os desvalidos, com os seres marginalizados, com aqueles que não tinham espaço na poesia. O que constatamos, então, foi um autor bem consciente do seu papel social e senhor de sua prática poética, o que fez o poeta ser reconhecido não só pelos seus contemporâneos, como também por outros poetas e por outros estudiosos da literatura. Constatamos que, embora não seja autor goiano com enorme reconhecimento comercial, suas obras espelham bem a maturidade e consciência de quem soube dosar a linguagem adequada aos poemas, aos ensaios, aos contos e a outros gêneros textuais a que recorreu. Para alicerçar nossas incursões sobre a obra de Godoy Garcia, utilizamos diversos aportes teóricos, entre os quais destacamos: Afrânio Coutinho (1996), Antônio Geraldo Ramos Jubé (1978), Darcy França Denófrio (1996), Gilberto Mendonça Teles (1964), Humberto Eco (1979), Massaud Moisés (1974), Octávio Paz (1974) e Tzvetan Todorov (1978), para fundamentarem esta dissertação.

The purpose of this research is to examine the presence of gender relations in five goianos tales, especially the violence of male characters against female characters and the degree of acceptance or resistance to the phenomenon. The stories analyzed are part of the second volume of the Antologia do conto goiano, organized by Vera Maria Tietzmann Silva and Maria Zaira Turchi (1994). As a result of the literary object, we address the evolution of the gender system from the development of civilization until the twentieth century, showing the emergence and perpetuation of the structure of male domination, even after the maturity of feminist struggles. These struggles, however, are not systematically studied, appearingonly in scattered references. With regard to adhesion and to the resistance, we call attention to the fact that identities are socially and politically constructed, in order to establish dominant and dominated groups, and generated cognition of this division as natural and therefore inevitable. The internalization of constructed identities demand constant work of situated agents and, in the case of generic identities, this is played by the institutions and men, with their violent practices. The continuous effect of these practices is leading to adhesion of dominated to dominant, as in almost all of the stories analyzed. Nevertheless, the characters explored also offer a degree of resistance, adopting defensive attitudes, which, however, does not solve the problem. Neither can transpose radically negative condition, usually faced by females.
O objeto teórico deste estudo são as relações de gênero, que se delinearam nas sociedades a partir da organização das civilizações por meio dos contatos. À proporção que elas se organizavam, distinguiam-se os atributos e papéis de homens e mulheres. O propósito da pesquisa é verificar o modo pelo qual, no interior dessas relações, o homem veio a adquirir primazia sobre a mulher, e, em seguida, examinar a presença das relações de gênero em cinco contos goianos. O foco da análise literária é a violência dos personagens masculinos contra os femininos e o grau de adesão ou de resistência ao fenômeno. Os contos analisados fazem parte do segundo volume da Antologia do conto goiano, organizada por Vera Maria Tietzmann Silva e Maria Zaira Turchi (1994). Em decorrência do objeto literário, abordamos a evolução do sistema de gêneros desde o desenvolvimento das civilizações até o século XX, mostrando o surgimento e a perpetuação da estrutura de dominação masculina, mesmo após o amadurecimento das lutas feministas. Essas lutas, entretanto, não são estudadas sistematicamente, aparecendo apenas em referências esparsas. No concernente à adesão e à resistência, chamamos a atenção para o fato de que as identidades são construídas social e politicamente, de forma a estabelecer grupos de dominantes e dominados, e a gerar o reconhecimento dessa divisão como algo natural e, portanto, inevitável. A interiorização das identidades construídas demanda um trabalho constante de agentes situados, e, no caso das identidades genéricas, este é desempenhado pelas instituições e pelos homens, com suas práticas violentas. O efeito contínuo dessas práticas é que leva à adesão do dominado ao dominante, como acontece na quase totalidade dos contos analisados. Apesar disso, as personagens exploradas oferecem também certo grau de resistência, adotando atitudes defensivas, que, entretanto, não solucionam de vez o problema. Nenhuma delas consegue transpor radicalmente a condição negativa, enfrentada em comum pelo gênero feminino.

This paper conducts a critical approach to ethos present in female discourse, tracing a historical profile to culminate in the works and speeches of two Goiás writers: Maria Aparecida Rodrigues and Maria Helena Chein, who in his dialogues with other works, make up our object of study. Used as an analytical method, preferably, the deductive, since, saying something about the object of study, we set of hypotheses that can be tested in comparative studies, performing an investigative research, comparing texts and readings in order to demonstrate affinity, various orders, between universal literature and produced in Goiás. This research uses, and other theorists of Ruth Amossy studies, regarding the statement that every act of taking the word implies in building a picture of themselves. In the first chapter, Ethos and female literary discourse, observed in the works under study, dialogues, traces of speech and character building of the texts studied, focusing on the presence of women in literature, and the ethos of the manifestation in the discourse of female voice. In the second chapter, Hiking and mishaps of the female voice literature, we revisit the voices who undertook trajectories in Literature, encouraging other writers and critics to participate in this particular discourse. Goiás two authors and their writings in this chapter, there was an almost exclusive attention to the works of the two writers Goiás in question, making a comparison between them, observing the nuances of their texts, from theoretical basis to demonstrate how it is put into his work ethos and female speech in dialogue with other works and other realities. In Chapter IV, Two writers Goiás two arts scene, is put in question, the writing of the two Goiás writers studied observing inherent properties of the game played with some concepts as truth and lie, metamorphoses and others, in which the words give life the language that moves between moving images and scenes of past and future, permeating a cinematic reflection of this.
Este trabalho realiza uma abordagem crítica sobre ethos presentes no discurso feminino, traçando um perfil histórico para culminar nas obras e discursos de duas escritoras goianas: Maria Aparecida Rodrigues e Maria Helena Chein, que em seus diálogos com outras obras, compõem o nosso objeto de estudo. Utilizamos como método de análise, preferencialmente, o dedutivo, uma vez que, ao afirmar algo sobre o objeto de estudo, partimos de hipóteses que podem ser testadas nos estudos comparativos, realizando uma pesquisa investigativa, confrontando textos e leituras afim de demonstrar afinidades, de ordens diversas, entre a literatura universal e a produzida em Goiás. Esta pesquisa se serve, além de outros teóricos, dos estudos de Ruth Amossy, no que tange à afirmação de que todo ato de tomar a palavra implica na construção de uma imagem de si. No primeiro capítulo, Ethos e discurso literário feminino, observamos nas obras em estudo, diálogos, traços da fala e construção das personagens dos textos estudados, tendo como foco a presença da mulher na literatura, e na manifestação do ethos no discurso de voz feminina. No capítulo segundo, Percurso e percalços da literatura de voz feminina, revisitamos as vozes que empreenderam trajetórias na Literatura, motivando outras escritoras e críticos a participarem desse discurso peculiar. Duas autoras goianas e suas escrituras, neste capítulo, houve uma atenção quase exclusiva para as obras das duas escritoras goianas em questão, fazendo uma comparação entre elas, observando as nuances de seus textos, a partir de bases teóricas para se demonstrar como está posto em suas obras o ethos e o discurso feminino em diálogo com outras obras e outras realidades. No capítulo IV, Duas escritoras goianas, duas artes em cena, põe-se em questão, a escrita das duas escritoras goianas estudadas, observando propriedades inerentes ao jogo praticado com alguns conceitos como verdade e mentira, metamorfoses e outros, nos quais as palavras dão vida a uma linguagem que transita entre imagens em movimento e cenas do passado e do futuro, permeando uma reflexão cinematográfica do presente.

The following text is result of research involving the Oió Journal, published monthly in Goiânia between February 1957 and August 1958. It will be demonstrated that, around the Oió Journal, critics and writers met who introduced discussions involving the need to structure a literary field in Goiás. Part of these efforts, recorded in the self-titled "monthly of Goiás culture", appear to involve the professionalization of literary criticism and the prominence given to Bernardo Élis and Eli Brasiliense, most cited authors. Coordinated by the bookseller Olavo Tormin and his secretary Eliezer Penna, the Oió Journal gave an impetus to literary production in Goiás, which increased exponentially between the 50’s and 70’s. The texts published in this paper recorded the flourishing of Modernist Literature in the capital of Goiás, consolidated in the consecration of Bernardo Élis and Eli Brasiliense, in the maintenance of associations of letters, such as the Goian Academy of Letters and the Brazilian Association of Writers, and in the systematization of criticism professional.
O texto que segue é fruto de pesquisa que envolve o Jornal Oió, publicado mensalmente em Goiânia entre fevereiro de 1957 e agosto de 1958. Será demonstrado que, em torno do Jornal Oió, reuniram-se críticos e escritores que introduziram discussões envolvendo a necessidade de estruturação de um campo literário em Goiás. Parte destes esforços, registrados no autointitulado “mensário da cultura goiana”, aparecem envolvendo profissionalização da crítica literária e no destaque dado a Bernardo Élis e Eli Brasiliense, autores mais citados. Coordenado pelo livreiro Olavo Tormin e seu secretário Eliezer Penna, o Jornal Oió impulsionou a produção literária em Goiás, que aumentou exponencialmente entre as décadas de 50 e 70. Os textos veiculados neste suporte registraram o florescer da Literatura modernista na capital goiana, sedimentada na consagração de Bernardo Élis e Eli Brasiliense, na manutenção de associações de letras, como a Academia Goiana de Letras e a Associação Brasileira de Escritores, e na sistematização da crítica profissional.

O objetivo desta dissertação é analisar contos selecionados e o romance Under the Feet of Jesus da escritora chicana Helena María Viramontes, enfocando a apropriação de mitos astecas e lendas mexicanas protagonizados por figuras femininas, históricas ou míticas, como La Manlinche, La Llorona e The Hungry Woman. Esta re-visão crítica do passado tem um papel vital para as chicanas, reais e ficcionais, ao enfrentarem o domínio patriarcal, colonial e neocolonial. Devido à complexidade gerada pela ausência de linearidade narrativa, tanto nos contos como no romance, tornou-se necessária uma breve análise das estratégias narrativas a fim de ilustrar como tais estratégias estão intrinsecamente ligadas à apresentação fragmentada da vida dos trabalhadores migrantes. Foi igualmente indispensável examinar as demais práticas narrativas da autora tais como focalização, desconstrução, simultaneidade e justaposição, assim como o elo, por ela proposto em Under the Feet of Jesus, entre leitura, identidade, e engajamento com o mundo para promover a transformação social
The aim of this dissertation is to analyze selected short stories and the novel Under the Feet of Jesus by Chicana writer Helena María Viramontes, focusing on her appropriation of Aztec myths and Mexican legends whose protagonists are feminine figures, whether of historical or mythical origin, such as La Malinche, La Llorona and The Hungry Woman. This critical re-view of the past plays a vital role for real and fictional Chicanas when facing patriarchal, colonial and neocolonial domination. Due to the complexity brought by the lack of linearity in the narrative, both in the short stories and in the novel, a brief analysis of the narrative strategies became necessary to show how these strategies are intertwined with the fragmented presentation of the migrant workers lives. It became equally indispensable to examine other narrative practices adopted by the author, namely, focalization, deconstruction, simultaneity and juxtaposition, as well as the link she establishes in Under the Feet of Jesus between reading, identity and effective human agency in order to achieve social changes

Resumo: Este estudo debruça-se sobre uma vertente da literatura goiana, mais precisamente, sobre textos que trazem a referência do sudoeste de Goiás como espaço simbólico de reconhecida especificidade cultural, com o objetivo de compreender a construção desse espaço. As histórias dos lugares sudoestinos são o conteúdo principal da literatura local focalizada aqui. Essas histórias e essa literatura constituem, os campos privilegiados da construção desses lugares. Nelas se pode verificar a inscrição do "sentido do próprio" e ver atuar, por meio de processos específicos da construção dos textos, um conjunto de relações dos sujeitos envolvidos, os escritores locais, nos espaços definidos por suas trajetórias e escrituras. A apreensão dos modos de construção dos lugares privilegiou os escritores que, em razão dos seus textos e através deles, bem como das relações que mantêm com os lugares, envolveram-se em processos de construção de referências culturais definidoras de seus espaços de vida e história. A construção do sudoeste de Goiás - objeto que se firmou para este trabalho -dimensionou, desde o princípio, um entrelaçamento entre os sujeitos, os seus textos e os lugares, e jogou com a possibilidade de um caminho de investigação definido pelas relações entre essas três dimensões como o mais apropriado para o entendimento dessa construção. Os capítulos definidos são fragmentos, unidos pela idéia de um constante entrelaçamento, cujo palco principal é um lugar histórico e social. Os dois textos escolhidos foram interpretados de forma contrapontual, isto é, dentro de uma perspectiva comparativa que considera os elementos estéticos e de conteúdo que surgem como diferenças significativas, com conseqüências para a visão dos lugares que cada texto constrói. A leitura em contraponto aqui realizada abarca a sugestão de Said (1995) de uma abordagem interpretativa que as analisa em conjunto, tratando-as de forma a não polarizá-las, mas, a entrelaçá-las por meio da tentativa de construção de visões, de imagens de cultura, de história e de sociedade. A interpretação dessa obras considerou as relações das narrativas com a cultura. A propósito desse aspecto, é possível dizer que a produção textual incorporada à análise traz a marca do Jugar e expressa um passado. A literatura, ao mesmo tempo em que faz circular essa marca, que também está inscrita na trajetória dos escritores, veicula a sua continuidade
Abstract: This study is about the Goiânia literature, definite exact, about texts that bring reference of the south west of Goiás as a symbolic space of the recognizable specificity culture with the goal to understand the build of this space. These histories and the literature are the patent fields of this place building. In the histories it is possible to identify the registration of the "own meaning" and see to act, through the specific process of the texts elaborations a relation group of the envolved people, the local writers, in definite spaces through their trajectories and contract. The apprehension of the building way of this places privileged the writers that in reason of their texts and through them, as well as the relation they keep with the places, they envolved in process of the building of the culture references that are definied of their spaces of life and history. The building of the south west of Goiás- object that firmed for this job- conducted since the start, a mix among the people, their texts and the places and played with the possibility of an investigation way defined for the relations among those three dimensions as the most appropriate to the understanding of this building. The defined chapters are fragments, joined for the idea of a constant union, whose the main scenery is a history and a social place. The two choosen texts were interpreted the contraposition, besides, in a comparison and the contents that appears as significatives differences, as a consequence to the view of the places that each text build. The reading in comparision here realizied has the suggest of Said (1995), of an interpretative view that it analyzied together treating them the way of not making them all together, but mix them through the experiment of the building of views, the culture images, the history and the society. The interpretation of this texts considered the relation of the narration with the culture. In purpose of the aspects, it is possible that the textual production incorporated the analysis bring the brand of the place and express the past. The literature, at the same lime that moves this brand, that is also registrated in the writers trajectory, shows its continuation

This work seeks to understand some characteristics of Goiania, in the period of its construction, through the analysis of the novel Chão Vermelho , by Eli Brasiliense, a piece of work that was written and set in the town of Goiania during the 50s of the last century. I find the romance in time and space to then discuss the sociospacial segregation, the labor and peasant emigration occurred in Goiania. In addition, I discuss issues related to modernity and progress, which ended up being recurring themes in the historiography of Goiás, and I point out the ambivalence in response to the questions about the modern and nonmodern conditions of the city. Also, I highlight some aspects of leisure and politics present throughout the novel and which raise the possibility that some aspirations, found in the book, are indicative of future expectations for revealing part of its present and past.
O presente trabalho busca perceber algumas características de Goiânia, no período de sua construção, por meio da análise do romance Chão vermelho, de Eli Brasiliense, obra escrita e ambientada nessa cidade na década de 50 do século passado. Localizo o romance no tempo e no espaço para em seguida discutir a segregação socioespacial verificada em Goiânia, o trabalho e a emigração campesina. Além disso, abordo questões relativas ao moderno e ao progresso, que acabaram sendo temas recorrentes na historiografia goiana, e aponto a ambivalência como resposta ao questionamento sobre a condição moderna ou não da cidade. Destaco alguns aspectos do lazer e da política presentes no conjunto do romance e que suscitam a hipótese de que algumas aspirações, impressas na obra, são indicativos de expectativas de futuro ao revelarem parte de seu presente e passado.

Esta disertación fue construida a partir del conocimiento científico de la Geografía, en su especificidad teórica humana, quiere decir histórico y social. En ella hay el estudio sobre la poesía de Jesús Barros Boquady, poeta Cearense y Goiano, que produjo un libro en forma de epopeya, cuyos poemas relatan la formación espacial de Goiânia, desde su sentido mítico, histórico y social, en la configuración de las formas y funciones de la ciudad, y en este proceso la estructuración de las desigualdades y las diferentes formas de vivir y narran la nueva capital del estado de Goiás, en ese momento histórico.
Esta dissertação foi construída a partir do conhecimento científico da Geografia, em sua especificidade teórica humana, quer dizer histórico e social. Nela há o estudo sobre a poesia de Jesus Barros Boquady, poeta Cearense e Goiano, que produziu um livro em forma de epopeia, cujos poemas relatam a formação espacial de Goiânia, desde o seu sentido mítico, histórico e social, na configuração da formas e funções da cidade, tendo nesse processo a estruturação de desigualdades e modos diferentes de habitar e narrar a nova capital do Estado de Goiás, naquele momento histórico.

Context/Background: The adoption of Open Source Software involves more than using OSS products and this has marked a new trend in software development. This new practice has potential benefits while introducing peculiar practical challenges in software development; particularly in areas concerning OSS selection. This involves OSS search and establishment of selection criteria which selects the best OSS product that matches the system requirements. These challenges have also introduced significant bottlenecks into software development industry. In order to mitigate or solve these problems, there isa need to identify OSS success factors for any software development firm that wants to go OPEN. Objective: This thesis aims to investigate the benefits and limitations of adopting OSS and to identify the success factors that lead to the benefits of OSS in software development. Method: Systematic literature review, through searches in library databases, was used to review empirical studies on OSS success factors when going OPEN. The data was extracted and synthesized from the selected papers for analysis. Mapping was used to obtain information concerning the OSS success factors when going OPEN, benefits, limitations/bottlenecks encountered in the industry, and were used to validate our findings from the literature. Results: Ninety three papers were identified. The data extraction from the SLR helped to identify the success factors, benefits and the bottlenecks from the literatures in the past decade. Conclusion: The implications of our thesis are two fold; practitioners should be acquainted with the benefits and limitations of adopting OSS and also learn from our identified success factors that leads to benefits in software development. This will help them when going OPEN. Alternatively, researchers should align their work and try to identify more knowledge gaps using our identified bottlenecks/limitations for software organizations when going OPEN.

A presente pesquisa pode ser organizada em quatro grandes momentos. No primeiro, expõem-se as posturas teórico-metodológicas que embasaram as pesquisas. No segundo, propõe-se a evidenciar a existência de um sistema de perpetuação de uma crise de leitura literária, ou seja, de um círculo vicioso de (má)formação do leitor de literatura no nordeste goiano. Em seguida, busca-se identificar o papel da universidade (no caso específico, a Universidade Estadual de Goiás, Unidade Universitária de Campos Belos) na manutenção e/ou rompimento desse círculo. Nesses propósitos, são expostos e analisados dados de uma pesquisa de campo realizada por meio de questionários semiestruturados destinados a: a) cinco professores de língua portuguesa egressos do curso de Letras Regular da UnU de Campos Belos e atuantes nos 3os. anos do ensino médio da região (colégios de Arraias e Lavandeira-TO e de Campos Belos-GO); b) 150 estudantes de 3os. anos do EM, oriundos das referidas escolas e alunos dos docentes egressos da UnU e c) 50 alunos, entre ingressantes e concluintes do curso de Letras da UnU. Os questionários objetivaram observar o contato e as perspectivas que os entrevistados têm em relação à literatura. A partir deles, verifica-se como os professores de língua portuguesa egressos da UEG estão ensinando essa disciplina e se confere, com base em autores especializados, se esse ensino está contribuindo para que permaneça ou que se diminua “a crise” da leitura literária na região. A análise dos dados pretende contemplar, ainda, algumas maneiras com as quais se relacionam, com a literatura, os ingressantes e concluintes do curso de Letras, com vistas a uma percepção da influência exercida pela universidade nos valores e perspectivas desses estudantes iniciantes e futuros professores. No quarto momento, os dados são analisados sob conceitos de especialistas com o intuito de sugerir uma proposta de “enfrentamento da crise” da leitura literária. Isso é feito demonstrando-se que os estudos científicos disponibilizam meios efetivos de se enfrentar essa crise e que a formação adequada do professor de língua portuguesa é o melhor meio para se combater a crise, tanto no nordeste goiano como em contextos sócio-culturais semelhantes. ________________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
The present research can be organized in four grand moments. In the first, it was exposed the theoretical-methodological postures that based the researchs. In the second one, it proposes to evidence the existence of a perpetuation system of Literary reading crisis, that is, a literature reader (no)formation vicious circle in the northeast part of Goias. After that, it was intend to identify the university paper (in this especific case, the State University of Goias, University campus of Campos Belos) in the maintenance and/or rupture of this circle. With this intention, field research data are exposed and analysed. This research was established through semistructured questionnaires destinated to: a) 5 Portuguese language teachers graduates in the regular Letras course in the University campus of Campos Belos who active in third grades of a public high school of the region (Arraias and Lavandeira colleges, in the state of Tocantins and Campos Belos colleges, in the state of Goias); b) 150 students of third grades of a public high school, that study at theses scholls, and with the teachers graduates in that University campus, and c) 50 Letras graduation course undergraduates (as freshmen as seniors). The questionnaires objetive to observe the contact and perspectives that the interviewees have with the literature. From them, it was examined how Portuguese language teachers graduates in the UEG are teaching this subject and check, based in the pertinent literature, if this teaching is contribuiting to perpetuate or reduce the literature reading crisis in the region. Data analysis try to understand how the Letras graduation course undergraduates (freshmen as well as seniors) relate with the literature, and trying to comprehend the university influence in the undergraduates freshmen and future teachers values e perspectives. In the fourth moment, the data are analysed based in expert studies and it has been an argued subject a propose to combat the reading crisis. It was done to show that scientific research dispose efetive manners to face the literature reading crisis and that the Portuguese language teacher formation adequate is the best way to face this crisis, as in the northeast part of Goias as in others socialcultural contexts like this.

My thesis explores how female writers of the Golden Age of children’s literature used their domestic stories to convey their visions of a more desirable society to their child readers, and thus to widen their influence beyond the homely sphere. My first chapter reconsiders the nineteenth-century historical circumstances wherein the woman and the child came to be constructed and enshrined as the domestic woman and the Romantic child within the home, and excluded from the public discourses. I then consider how in domestic stories women writers tried to overcome this shared deprivation of autonomy with the child, focusing on the works of Charlotte Yonge, Juliana Ewing, and Mary Louisa Molesworth. It emerges that these women writers were all keen to encourage their young readers to question the boundaries that separate home from the public realm, and to imagine a society wherein these dividing lines would be mitigated and even be extinguished. The thesis argues that these female writers’ literary efforts to exhaust the potential of the domestic story, and that their motivation to provide their child readers a sense of agency were integral in the development of Golden Age children’s literature. Charlotte Yonge’s technique of evoking sympathy for the child characters forged a more intimate relationship between adult author and young reader, and initiated the unsettling of the hierarchy between old and young, and author and reader. Juliana Ewing’s experiments with child narrators and her mingling of adventure and fantasy stories with domestic stories showed successive writers the various directions the domestic story could go. Mary Louisa Molesworth’s nursery stories realized the purpose of Ewing’s literary experiments, as her stories’ natural interweaving of quotidian nursery and fairy tale elements not only alleviated the hierarchy between fantasy and domestic realism, but also opened an era in which the blending of these two modes would become one of the most popular genres in children’s literature.

This dissertationpresents an investigation about the contribution of the literary classicreading to the critical formation of high school reading students in a school of Goiania. Its objective is to investigate how the reading happens in the school environment, in the effective contact of the student with the literary text, aswell as to observe how the relation with Machado texts, representative of the classics, through the teacher mediation can contribute to the critical formation of the reader. The corpus of analysis chosen was the fictional production of Machado de Assis, asrepresentative of the classics which, less and less, are read in the school due to the complexity and the temporal distance of the language, in relation to what the young readers consider current, besides narrative innovations and refined expressionfeatures, such as irony. Five short stories and a novel authored by the authorcomposes the analysis corpus. The practical part consists of an intervention carried out as an action research, quantitative and qualitative of reading mediation, initiated by the reading of Machadian tales followed by the reading of the novel Posthumous Memories of BrasCubas (2007), with a class of 2nd grade Teaching In the State College Edmundo Rocha, located in the Northwest region of Goiânia. The rationale presented is based on reflections of Calvino (1993), Candido (1972, 1989 and 2004), Zilberman (1985, 1988, 1999), Bosi (2002,2003), Compagnon (2009) Failla (2012, 2016), Kleiman (2002) Todorov (2009), Schwarz (2008), Bosi (2003), among others, besides the documents Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education (LDBEN, 1996); National Curricular Parameters (PCNs, 1999); Curricular Guidelines for High School (OCPEM, 2006), among others. The results of this research indicate that the literary reading of the classics contributes, in fact, to the formation of critical readers in the school and emphasizes the importance of the teacher mediation to reach this objective.
O presente trabalho apresentauma investigação sobre acontribuição da leitura de clássicos literáriospara a formação críticadealunos leitores doEnsino Médio em uma escolada redeestadualde Goiânia. Tem, como objetivo,averiguar como aleitura acontece no ambiente escolar, no efetivo contato do aluno com o texto literário, bem como observar comoa relação com textos machadianos, representativo dos clássicos,por meio da mediação docentepode contribuir para a formação crítica do leitor.O corpusde análise escolhido foia produção ficcional de Machado de Assis, como representativa dos clássicosque, cada vez menos, são lidos na escola devido à complexidade e ao distanciamento temporal da linguagem,em relação ao que os jovens leitores consideram atual, além da presença deinovações narrativas erefinadosrecursos de expressão, como a ironia.O corpusé composto por cinco contos e um romance de autoria do autor. The starting goal of this study case is to go through a path that has been built between the geography and the literature by the piece of work analyses: Viver é devagar . For a theoretical basis, this work dealt with the geographic categories of place, landscape, urban space, and time to the social representation theory. In the literary work Viver é devagar , the author, as a spectator and actor, takes over the urban space in Goiânia . Place is his starting point, and landscape is his narration object. The narration begins in his lived place in a metropolis. The conceptual structure of this work starts from a symbolic dimension, because it refers to cognitive contents that allow a person to be someone who knows and interprets the reality. The author demonstrates the representations of affective life, values, believes, knowledge, dreams, hopes, and expresses a way to communicate to the world that surrounds him through literature. The methodology that best fits this research is the qualitative one. Thus, in this work, the researcher became a spokeswoman to the Felicios chronics. She constant tried to reveal what is implicit in the author s city. A question arises: Does the literary work that has been studied offer enough categories and concepts to represent the social historic process in Goiânia ? To answer to this question, several geographers and authors from different areas were studied to establish a dialog through readings, reflections, and analyses concerning to geography and literature.
O objetivo inicial deste estudo é trilhar um caminho que foi construído entre a geografia e a literatura por meio da analise da obra Viver é devagar. Para uma sustentação teórica, o trabalho articulou as categorias geográficas de lugar, paisagem, espaço urbano, tempo, com a teoria da representação social. Na obra literária Viver é devagar, o autor como espectador e ator, apropria-se do espaço urbano de Goiânia. O lugar é o seu ponto de partida, e a paisagem, o seu objeto de narração. A narração inicia-se em seu espaço vivido localizado em uma metrópole. A estrutura conceitual deste trabalho parte de uma dimensão simbólica, pois refere-se aos conteúdos cognoscíveis, que permitem à pessoa ser alguém que conhece e interpreta a realidade. O autor demonstra as representações da vida afetiva, valores, crenças, conhecimento, sonhos, esperanças e expressa uma forma de comunicar-se com o mundo que o cerca por meio da literatura. A metodologia que melhor atende a essa pesquisa é a qualitativa, por isso, neste trabalho, a pesquisadora tornou-se uma porta-voz das crônicas de Felício, na busca constante por desvendar nas linhas e entrelinhas a leitura de cidade do autor. Surge uma pergunta: a obra literária em estudo oferece categorias e conceitos capazes de representar o processo histórico social de Goiânia? Para responder a este questionamento foi necessário buscar vários autores geógrafos e de outras áreas do conhecimento para estabelecer um diálogo por meio de leituras, reflexões e análises a cerca da relação entre a geografia e a literatura.

Road Going Home follows the life of four women of the same family: grandmother, granddaughter, her mother, and her aunt. Mother Karen leaves home at sixteen because she's pregnant, afraid of disappointing parents Ruth and Nelson. Her sister Lacy is just a child when she leaves. Karen has always wanted to leave home because her small town feels suffocating. At the opening of the novel, Karen has moved into a commune in central Virginia. Her father kidnaps granddaughter Dylan in hopes of bringing his family back together. However, the result is the family growing more apart from one another. Thematically, the novel seeks to answer what happens to families when they run away from one another. How do we come back together again? And how do we rebuild those close ties that we once lost?

The following thesis examines the importance of play in Wallace Stevens's poetry and how it reveals a structural isometry between Stevens's poetics and the philosophical ethics of Immanuel Kant, Hans-Georg Gadamer, and Emmanuel Levinas. This comparison demonstrates that Stevens is not concerned with writing toward the philosophical concepts of 'good' or 'truth,' but rather with determining the ontological condition of poetic thought, which he does by writing poetry that reaches toward the guiding fiction of his age, the Supreme Fiction. This study is conducted in three stages, each aiming to demonstrate the importance of change, abstraction, and pleasure (the three key terms in Stevens's Notes Toward a Supreme Fiction) in determining how Stevensian play operates. The first chapter identifies a turning topos operating throughout Stevens's career in which poems are abstracted from extrapoetic reality by locating them in a separate space of thought, a play space. The second chapter looks more closely at this play space and the metaphors of dwelling, seasons, and climate that Stevens uses to describe it, arguing that the seasons' relationship to climate and climate's relationship to the Supreme Fiction finds a structural correlative in the ethical theories of Kant and Levinas. Much as Kant and Levinas's theories require a metaphysical grounding, Stevens's poetry is grounded by locating itself in a separate realm, poetic thought. The third chapter makes a diachronic study of Stevens's considerations of poetic thought as a separate realm, making particular use of Jacques Rancière's critique of ethics to demonstrate that Stevens's poetry is able to avoid the ethical turn through its own poetic turn.
La thèse suivante examine l'importance du jeu dans la poésie de Wallace Stevens et comment il révèle une isométrie structurelle entre sa poétique et l'éthique philosophique d'Immanuel Kant, Hans-Georg Gadamer, et Emmanuel Levinas. Cette comparaison démontre que Stevens n'est pas concernée par les concepts philosophique «le bien» ou «la vérité», mais essai plutôt de déterminer la condition ontologique de la pensée poétique, ce qu'il fait en écrivant de la poésie qui tend vers la fiction dominante de son âge; la Fiction Suprême. Cette thèse est divisée en trois étapes, chacune visant à démontrer l'importance du changement, l'abstraction et le plaisir (les trois termes dans la poème de Stevens Notes Toward a Supreme Fiction) pour déterminer comment les jeux de Stevens fonctionnent. Le premier chapitre identifie un topos observé tout au long de la carrière de Stevens dans lequel les poèmes sont abstrait de la réalité extrapoetic, les situant dans un espace séparé de la pensée, un espae de jeu. Le deuxième chapitre examine de plus près à cet espace de jeu et les métaphores de l'habitation, des saisons et du climat que Stevens utilise pour le décrire. Tout comme les théories de Kant et de Lévinas nécessitent une mise en forme métaphysique, la poésie de Stevens sec localise dans un domaine séparé, la pensée poétique. On a metaphoric level, the zombie is an extremely malleable and dynamic figure because it can act as a template for exploring the hazy definitions of humanity. The trope of the zombie I trace in this dissertation is the performance of an absence: the zombie as fragmented and incomplete human. I examine examples of the zombie in American literature across the last century that reify the absence of something crucial in the ontological makeup of a complete human, a component I term `the absent quale.' In the first two chapters, I establish the trope of the zombie as a figure that lacks a particular quale essential to humanity. Chapter One examines H. P. Lovecraft's zombies in "Herbert West: Reanimator" (1921–22) in the context of scientific materialism, which denies the existence of the soul. By 1959, when Robert Heinlein wrote his time travel classic "All You Zombies—," the figure of the zombie as an embodied absence was so established in popular culture that Heinlein's narrator uses the word "zombies" as a metaphor; Chapter Two reads the figurative zombie as a characterization of the fragmented along the temporal dimension. In Chapter Three, I consider Harlan Ellison and Robert Silverberg's "The Song the Zombie Sang" (1970) alongside Walter Benjamin's influential essay, "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," using the latter's concept of the aura to denote a sort of material analogue to the human soul. I argue in Chapter Four that the bricolage of popular culture motifs that Robin Becker's zombie rehearses throughout Brains: A Zombie Memoir (2010) enacts the postmodern estrangement from an authentic dimension of being. Expanding on this theme, Chapter Five explores the ways in which popular culture dictates reality for the living and the undead members of the pre- and post-apocalyptic American society Colson Whitehead describes in Zone One (2011).

This research was developed within the Program of Post-graduate studies in Geography from the Institute of Environmental Studies — UFG, under orientation of Professor Eguimar Felício Chaveiro, for which we adopt as a theme' readings of subject and existence in novels published in the context of metropolization of Goiânia. The starting point for the study was the finding that sociogeographic changes arising from the conservative modemization of capital in Goiás and from the new employment relationships in the course of metropolization of Goiânia produced inroads into the manner of urban existence. We are faced with a subject deeply marked by shuffling of signs in urban symbolic melting pot. Similarly, this incidence on the processes of symbolic production promoted the emergence of a contemporary novelistic narrative at the new metropolis, since the 198015. Two novels by authors from the state of Goiás, A centopeia de neon e Os cordeiros do abismo, provided support for Me thesis that, in tum, relies on the assumption that in the metropolization of Goiânia the novelistic creation fails to address Me subject of hegemonic rural bases — man and life countryside. The focos of the plot switches to the new contours of existence: an urban subject, fragmented, adherent to the emotion trade, to the consumerism, the cynical reason and desdation. The questioning of the theme is anchored on two fronts: the first asks about the connection between Geography and Literature with an approach able to maintain the vitality and specificity of each of the fields of knowledge. The question is: how to proceed to a reading of the space by the bias of literature without it being reduced to the role illustrative or representative of the geographic reality? The other strand questions about subjects captured by the antenna of the Brazilian produced novel, created or set in Goiás: how their fictional repertoires, invested in characters of the novels analyzed, intertwine the repertoires of the inhabitants of the metropolis? Different development strategies of the theme resulted in a plural approach and in a singular methodological course. The rapprochement between Geography and Literature, in the perspective to establish a dialogic process with the novel, led to a fruitful debate involving literary theory, where it was found a clear presence of lived space (geographical space) as a basic element in the origin of the novelistic genre. Coupled with the discussion of cartographic language in Geography, this dialog has led to the creation of maps of the novels, from which we conducted analyzes geographical and literary. The mappings put into operation different language systems. The transit between geographical thought and literary theory also resulted in the emergence of the term in the tifle of the thesis: "Novelcityness" (Romancidade). A junction of two categories of research, the novelistic genre and the city, with an overflow of meaning which refers to an immanent relationship between subject, city and romance. Geography and Literature in a single word.
A presente pesquisa foi desenvolvida no âmbito do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Geografia do Instituto de Estudos Socioambientais da UFG, sob orientação do professor Eguimar Felído Chaveiro, para a qual adotamos como tema: leituras de sujeito e existência em romances publicados no contexto da metropolização de Goiânia. O ponto de partida para o estudo foi a constatação de que as alterações socioespaciais decorrentes da modernização conservadora do capital em Goiás e das novas relações de trabalho no percurso de metropolização de Goiânia produziram incursões no modo urbano de existir. Deparamo-nos com um sujeito profundamente marcado pelo embaralhamento de signos no caldeirão simbólico urbano. Da mesma forma, essa incidência nos processos da produção simbólica promoveu o surgimento de uma narrativa romanesca contemporânea na nova metrópole, a partir dos anos 1980. Dois romances de autores goianos, A centopeia de neon e Os cordeiros do abismo, deram suporte para a tese que, por sua vez, se apóia no pressuposto de que na metropolização de Goiânia a criação romanesca deixa de abordar hegemonicamente o sujeito de bases rurais - o homem e a vida no campo. O foco do enredo passa para os novos contornos da existência: um sujeito urbano, fragmentado, aderente ao comércio das emoções, ao consumismo, à razão cínica e ao desolamento. A problematização do tema se ancorou em duas vertentes: a primeira indaga sobre a aproximação entre Geografia e Literatura com uma abordagem capaz de manter a vitalidade e especificidade de cada um dos campos de saber. A pergunta é: como proceder a uma leitura do espaço pelo viés da literatura sem que esta seja reduzida à função ilustrativa ou representativa da realidade geográfica? A outra vertente questiona sobre sujeitos captados pela antena do romance brasileiro produzido, criado ou ambientado em Goiás: como os seus repertórios fictícios investidos nas personagens dos romances analisados, se entrelaçam aos repertórios dos habitantes da metrópole? Diferentes estratégias de desenvolvimento da temática redundaram em uma abordagem plural e num percurso metodológico singular. A aproximação entre Geografia e Literatura, na perspectiva de estabelecer um processo dialógico com o romance levou a um profícuo debate envolvendo a teoria literária, de onde se constatou a presença inequívoca do espaço vivido (espaço geográfico) como elemento basilar na origem do gênero romanesco. Aliado ao debate da linguagem cartográfica na Geografia, esse diálogo levou à criação de cartografias dos romances e, a partir das quais, realizamos as análises geográfico-literárias. As cartografias puseram em funcionamento diferentes sistemas de linguagem. O trânsito entre o pensamento geográfico e a teoria literária resultou, também, no surgimento do vocábulo que intitula a tese: Romancidade. Uma junção de duas categorias da pesquisa, romance e cidade, com um transbordamento de sentido que remete para uma relação imanente entre sujeito, cidade e romance. Geografia e Literatura numa mesma palavra.

O objeto de pesquisa deste trabalho é a livraria Bazar Oió. A partir dela, será discutido o seu papel, junto com o livreiro Olavo Tormin e os produtores culturais que faziam parte desse cenário. Estamos falando de Goiânia (GO), entre os anos 1951 a 1974. O Bazar Oió atuava também como editora, promovia lançamentos, funcionava como uma biblioteca informal e organizava debates políticos e literários. Esta dissertação busca compreensão sobre o modo como uma livraria, fora do eixo literário nacional, exerceu um papel relevante no cenário cultural local como um espaço de confluência e de exercício de tomadas de posição. Para isso, recorreu-se a Pierre Bourdieu e seu pensamento sobre campo literário. A partir da delimitação do cenário literário goiano da época e a sua relação com o nacional, a livraria Bazar Oió foi analisada como um espaço literário; e o livreiro e seus frequentadores, como principais agentes. São discutidas as dinâmicas fomentadas no ambiente da livraria e/ou motivada pela atuação de Olavo Tormin, com ênfase em um caso específico, a polêmica provocada pelo crítico paulista Homero Silveira, em 1956, ao se referir à produção literária goiana. É feita ainda uma discussão sobre livrarias e regimes autoritários, a partir do Bazar Oió e da ditadura militar no Brasil.
The object of this research is the bookstore named Bazar Oió. From it, we discuss its role as well as the bookseller Olavo Tormin and cultural producers that were part of this scenario, Goiânia, between 1951 to 1974. The Bazar Oió acted as publisher, an informal library, conducted book launches and political and literary debates. This work tries to understand how a bookstore, outside the national literary center, played a role in the local cultural scene as a space of confluence and position-takings. We used the Pierre Bourdieu’s theory on the literary field. From the definition of Goiás literary scene and its relation to the national, Bazar Oió bookstore was analyzed as a literary space; and the bookseller and its visitors, as the main agents. The dynamic fomented by the bookstore environment and/or motivated by the acting of Olavo Tormin are discussed with emphasis on a specific case, the controversy caused by the São Paulo critic Homero Silveira, in 1956, when referring to local literary production. Finally, there is a discussion about bookstores and authoritarian regimes, from the relation between Bazar Oió and the military dictatorship in Brazil.

This thesis examines how the reading and writing of the post-war British novel is altered by the emergence of an 'everyday' cinema-going culture amongst young people in the 1920s, 30s and 40s. The thesis demonstrates how viewing and reading practices converge in the twentieth-century and how the resulting modification of the visual literacy of this new, 'movie-made' generation of 'cinesthetic' writers and readers refigures realism in this period. Such cinesthetic realism can be differentiated from the modernist mode of the 'camera-eye' by how it elicits interactive (and often sexist) affects and leads to techniques such as 'indexical characterisation' and a consideration of 'extratextual' narratives. Thus, the thesis argues for the post-war period as one of literary innovation as opposed to the regressive, anti-modern epoch it is still widely labelled. The work encompasses a broad range of novels and novelists: 'Invitations to a Candy-Floss World?' explains how John Braine's 'documentary' fiction engages with cinematic escapism, how Colin MacInnes incorporates cinema-going as an emblem of marginalisation, and how Alan Sillitoe positions cinema as a 'valid' literary influence; 'I Could Have Bitten Her' examines the influence of Philip Larkin's addiction to cinema in his debut novel, John Wain's investigation of the cinesthetic reification of the post-war novelist, and Kingsley Amis' extratextual and (surprisingly) feminist endeavours; 'Passionate Detachment' explores Muriel Spark's employment of cinema to represent a crisis in feminine ipseity, Lynne Reid Banks' use of 'sexist' cinema as a proto-feminist trope (in conjunction with an interview with Banks), and Iris Murdoch's relationship with cinema as 'Plato's Cave', which leads to refigurations of realism and feminist forms of escape. Ultimately, this thesis aims to foreground an underestimated aspect of the transition between the 'late modernist' and the 'contemporary' in British fiction.

This thesis focusses on contemporary China. It examines the role the dominant ideology plays in determining the kinds of texts and narratives that are translated for export as part of government-sponsored translation projects. The literary magazine Pathlight, launched as an instrument of Chinese cultural diplomacy, is at the centre of this research project. At the turn of the 21st century, the Chinese government stepped up its funding of cultural diplomacy activities in efforts to disseminate Chinese traditional culture and Chinese discourse internationally. This move was fuelled by mounting criticism and negative reporting from the Western mainstream media on China, and China’s declining image worldwide. As part of this, the Chinese government initiated a number of projects to enhance the country’s image and discursive power through cross-cultural exchanges and cultural diplomacy, and thus forge its own narrative on China in the international community (K. Zhao, 2016). Drawing upon notions of patronage and ideology from Lefevere’s rewriting theory and anchoring on previous research on similar translation projects, this study applies qualitative content analysis methods to pinpoint the recurring themes and narratives in the English translations exported in Pathlight from 2011 to 2019. It searches for links between these recurring themes and narratives and current Chinese mainstream ideology as expressed by “the Chinese dream.” The findings of this dissertation reveal that, although the dominant ideology in China does put certain limitations on what kinds of stories and narratives are selected for translation and export in government-sponsored translation projects, compared to years prior to the economic reforms of the 1980s, the variety of stories and narratives translated and exported has greatly increased. Arguably, this could be explained by the changes in the country’s dominant ideology over the past 30 years, and by how the Chinese government is turning to “softer” methods of control.

This essay presents a reading of the country lifestyle in Goias for the cultural rescue of the past. The reflections result from bonds between Geography and Literature. The intention of this research is to highlight the cultural space contents, extracting from the bond between scientific language and artistic language, the most significant elements in the relationship between subjects and territory. Such elements are appreciated by the humanist chain of Geography and are present in the literature of the Goiano writer Bernardo Elis. From his work to an interlocution of Geography, the short-stories books Ermos e Gerais , Caminhos e Descaminhos and Veranico de Janeiro were chosen. The geographic interpretation of short-stories such as Rosa, A Enxada, Moagem, Ontem Como Hoje, Como Amanhã, Como Depois, among others, takes into consideration the interaction between the countrymen and the nature of the Brazilian interior vegetation, the social and work relations, the social representations, the symbolic territorial appreciation and the landscape formations. These categories of analysis allowed a route crossing within the cultural backland identity: from its construction in a rural context to its recreation in an urban context. Nowadays, there is a genre for the cultural backland identity. It is translated by readings that people from rural origin place within the urban space. The communication between symbols, traditional and modern values present in life experience and territorial landscape points out that giving a new meaning to culture does not discard the essential characteristics of the backland. The meanings of the current country lifestyle experience were able to be understood because, in the three chapters which compose the essay, Bernardo Elis‟ literature is about clarifying the complexity of the human being within the regional culture scenario.
Esta dissertação apresenta uma leitura da vivência sertaneja em Goiás, pela leitura cultural do passado. As reflexões resultam dos elos que unem Geografia e Literatura. A intenção da pesquisa foi de realçar os conteúdos culturais do espaço, de extrair do encontro da linguagem científica com a linguagem artística os elementos mais significativos da relação dos sujeitos com o território. Estes elementos são valorizados pela corrente humanista da Geografia e estão presentes na literatura do escritor goiano Bernardo Élis. Da sua obra, escolheu-se, para uma interlocução com a Geografia, os livros de contos Ermos e Gerais , Caminhos e Descaminhos e Veranico de Janeiro . A interpretação geográfica de contos como Rosa , A Enxada , Moagem , Como Ontem, Como Hoje, Como Depois, entre outros, levou em conta a interação dos sertanejos com a natureza do cerrado, as relações sociais de trabalho, as representações sociais , a valorização simbólica do território e as formações paisagísticas. Estas categorias de análise permitiram enviesar um percurso histórico da identidade cultural sertaneja: da sua construção em um contexto de ruralidade à sua ressignificação em um contexto de urbanidade. Há uma modalidade de identidade cultural sertaneja na contemporaneidade. Ela é traduzida pelas leituras que as pessoas de origem rural realizam do espaço urbanizado. A comunicação entre símbolos e valores tradicionais e modernos, presentes na vivência e nas paisagens dos territórios, evidencia que a ressignificação da cultura convém ser refletida a partir das características basilares do espaço sertanejo. Os sentidos da atual vivência sertaneja puderam ser compreendidos porque, nos três capítulos que compõem o texto dissertativo, a literatura de Bernardo Élis cuidou de desvelar aspectos essenciais da complexidade do existir humano no cenário de uma cultura regional.

The present work has as its theme the literacy events in children's education, which consist of situations in which reading and writing take place, through the interaction between the subjects. The main objective of this research is to identify and analyze literacy events in the context of early childhood education. Thus, he outlined to the question: What are and how occur the literacy events in clusters of five years of age enrolled in municipal centers in Goiânia? The methodology is qualitative approach, with ethnographic traits, involving observations into three groups of five years old and semi-structured interviews with the teachers of the institutions. The theoretical framework is based on the concepts of literacy from Soares (1986, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016), Tfouni (2010), Mortatti (2004), Rojo (2009), Kleiman (1995), Street (2014) and others. In order to understand the specificities of the work carried out in the children's education, it is based on Britto (2004), Faria and Dias (2007), Albuquerque and Leite (2011), Barbosa (2006), Brandão and Carvalho (2011), Corsino (2013), Horn (2004), Leal (2011), and others. The analyzes showed that literacy events in children's education do not arise in an isolated or spontaneous way, because in each event there is a school context, an intentionality and a relationship of interdependence among the individuals involved. It was verified that the literacy events are present in the activities developed in the routines, and they passed the curriculum, being elaborated according to the needs of the children and the teaching methodologies developed in the reading wheels and in the work projects. Thus, it is noticed that there is a proposal of work in the children's education of the Municipal Centers of Early Childhood Education in the Municipal Network of Goiânia, which, in their routine, develop reading and writing with the children approximately their uses in real situations.
O presente trabalho tem como temática os eventos de letramento na educação infantil, que consistem em situações em que ocorrem a leitura e escrita, por meio da interação entre os sujeitos. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa é identificar e analisar os eventos de letramento no contexto da educação infantil. Dessa forma, delineou-se a seguinte questão: Quais são e como ocorrem os eventos de letramento nos agrupamentos de cinco anos dos Centros Municipais de Educação Infantil de Goiânia? Para isso, tem-se como objeto de investigação três Centros Municipais de Educação Infantil da Rede Municipal de Educação de Goiânia, Goiás. A metodologia adotada é de abordagem qualitativa, com traços etnográficos, envolvendo observações em três agrupamentos de cinco anos e entrevistas semiestruturadas com as professoras das instituições. O aporte teórico fundamenta-se nos conceitos de letramento a partir de Soares (1986, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016), Tfouni (2010), Mortatti (2004), Rojo (2009), Kleiman (1995), Street (2014) e outros. Para a compreensão das especificidades do trabalho desenvolvido na educação infantil, embasa-se em Britto (2004), Faria e Dias (2007), Albuquerque e Leite (2011), Barbosa (2006), Brandão e Carvalho (2011), Corsino (2013), Horn (2004), Leal (2011), e outros. As análises mostraram que os eventos de letramento na educação infantil não surgem de modo isolado ou espontâneo, pois, em cada evento, existe um contexto escolar, uma intencionalidade e uma relação de interdependência entre os indivíduos envolvidos. Constatou-se que os eventos de letramento estão presentes nas atividades desenvolvidas nas rotinas, e perpassaram o currículo, sendo este elaborado de acordo com as necessidades das crianças e as metodologias de ensino desenvolvidas nas rodas de leitura e nos projetos de trabalho. Dessa forma, percebe-se que existe uma proposta de trabalho na educação infantil dos Centros Municipais de Educação Infantil na Rede Municipal de Goiânia, que, na sua rotina, desenvolvem a leitura e a escrita com as crianças de forma aproximada de seus usos em situações reais.

It is estimated that between 60 and 80 million people worldwide enfretem difficulties to reproduce at some point in their lives and it is estimated that this ratio reaches approximately 20% of couples of reproductive age. Gonorrhea is a common bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), transmitted almost exclusively by sexual or perianal contact. In women genital infection can be asymptomatic and when it discovers there may be serious complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease, and ectopic pregnancy, a leading cause of female infertility. The molecular diagnostic techniques are powerful allies in the tracking of NG and other sexually transmitted diseases (STD). Therefore, an investigation was conducted in the scientific literature in the form of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the prevalence of NG, molecular diagnostic techniques and the samples used in the detection of this bacterium. Simultaneously, we developed a chart review in the last 4 years to detect the prevalence of gonococcal infection among other diagnoses as the cause of infertility in women seen at the Laboratory of Human Reproduction - Clinical Hospital, Goiânia, Goiás. SLR was found in 720 articles of which 694 were excluded due to previously established criteria and 26 were included in this review. The population was predominantly young 7 (27%) and female sex workers 6 (23%). The age ranged from 12 to 59 years. The more frequent biological material was endocervical swab 10 (38.46%), vaginal swabs 8 (30.76%), urine 4 (15.38%) and the association of these 3 (11.53%). The in-house PCR was the choice of 12 trials for the diagnosis of NG. In the other 14 studies different commercial diagnostic kits were used. Gradually more it is observed the use of biological samples collected from a less invasive diagnosis of STD. Molecular techniques found in this study are the most used in asymptomatic patients, since they have greater efficiency in the detection of NG, whose gold standard applies only in symptomatic patients. In reviewing the records among the 340 women studied, the prevalence of NG 0.6% and co-infection with Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) was 0.6%. DIP was present in 2.1% of cases and 2 cases of coinfection of NG and CT and the mean age was 33 years. The CT and NG infections had low prevalence in the studied sample and studies are needed in other breeding centers in the country to confirm the prevalence of infections in this particular group of women with infertility problems.
Estima-se que entre 60 e 80 milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo em algum momento de suas vidas enfrentem dificuldades para se reproduzirem e calcula-se que este índice atinja aproximadamente 20% dos casais em idade reprodutiva. A gonorréia é uma infecção bacteriana frequente, causada por Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG), transmitida quase que exclusivamente por contato sexual ou perianal. Nas mulheres a infecção genital pode ser assintomática e quando se descobre pode haver complicações sérias como a doença inflamatória pélvica (DIP), uma das principais causas da infertilidade feminina e da gravidez ectópica. As técnicas diagnósticas moleculares são grandes aliadas no rastreamento de NG e outras doenças sexualmente transmissíveis (DST). Objetivos: realizar uma investigação na literatura científica no formato de uma Revisão Sistemática de Literatura (RSL) sobre a prevalência de NG em mulheres assintomáticas, observando a faixa etária, as técnicas moleculares diagnósticas e as amostras utilizadas na detecção dessa bactéria; e, uma revisão de prontuários dos últimos 4 anos para detectar a prevalência da infecção gonocócica entre outros diagnósticos como fator causal da infertilidade em mulheres atendidas no Laboratório de Reprodução Humana – Hospital das Clínicas/UFG, Goiânia, Goiás. Na RSL foram encontrados 720 artigos dentre os quais 694 foram excluídos por critérios previamente estabelecidos e 26 incluídos nesta revisão. A população predominante foi de jovens 7 (27%) e mulheres profissionais do sexo 6 (23%). A idade variou de 12 a 59 anos. O material biológico mais frequente foi esfregaço endocervical 10 (38,46%), esfregaço vaginal 8 (30,76%), urina 4(15,38%) e a associação dos mesmos 3(11,53%). A técnica PCR convencional foi a técnica de escolha em 12 estudos para diagnóstico de NG. Nos outros 14 estudos foram utilizados distintos kits diagnósticos comerciais. Cada vez mais se observa o uso de amostras biológicas coletadas de forma menos invasiva para o diagnóstico de DST. As técnicas moleculares encontradas no presente estudo são as mais empregadas em pacientes assintomáticos, pois apresentam maior eficiência na detecção de NG, cujo padrão ouro só se aplica em pacientes sintomáticos. Na revisão de prontuários entre as 340 mulheres estudadas, a prevalência de NG de 0,6% e coinfecção com Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) foi 0,6%. DIP foi presente em 2,1% dos casos estudados sendo 2 casos por coinfecção de NG e CT e a média de idade foi 33 anos. As infecções por CT e NG tiveram baixa prevalência na amostra estudada e são necessários estudos em outros centros de reprodução do país para confirmar a prevalência de infecções nesse grupo particular de mulheres com problemas de infertilidade.

Disney's Hercules is an apt modern reception of the ancient mythology of Herakles, acknowledging ancient and modern sources surrounding three types of classical hero: the archetypal hero, influenced by the ideas of Joseph Campbell; the Pan-Hellenic hero, distilled from ancient Greek exempla of heroism from epic and other genres of ancient literature; and the tragic hero, inspired by the heroic criteria presented in Aristotle's Poetics. By adapting these heroic types from their traditional ancient source myths, Disney's Hercules produces a new, contemporary definition of heroism—one informed by modern, Western family values. This adaptation renews the power of the myth of Herakles for a modern era, whose image and characteristics have been changed and adapted since ancient times to suit each receiving culture's conception of true heroism.

This essay explores how James Baldwin’s short story Going to Meet the Man depicts racist attitudes toward African-Americans in American society. Further, this essay also shows how racism is linked to a circulation of emotions that unconsciously generates a xenophobic nation affecting even those who implicitly are regarded as genuine citizens of that community. By using two theoretical perspectives, Sara Ahmed’s theory of affective economies and some of Freud’s concepts from psychoanalysis, this essay analyzes Baldwin’s text and discovers how the American nation needs to accept and recognize its racist history, just as a child needs to acknowledge his or her fear when experiencing traumatic events. Baldwin’s narrative reinforces racist stereotypes while at the same time using the text to write back to a society that at the time of writing had not expected, but indeed needed, an African-American man to publish a book from a white man’s perspective.

This dissertation is mainly based on the reading of three American novels to explore how female characters deal with their illegitimate pregnancies and how their solutions re-shape their futures and affect their inner growth. Chapter 1 discusses Dorinda Oakley's premarital pregnancy in Ellen Glasgow's Barren Ground and draws the circle of limits from Barbara Welter's "four cardinal virtues" (purity, submissiveness, domesticity, and piety) which connect to the analogous female roles (daughter, sister, wife, and mother). Dorinda's childless survival reconstructs a typical household from her domination and absence of maternity. Chapter 2 examines Ántonia Shimerda's struggles and endurance in My Ántonia by Willa Cather before and after Ántonia gives birth to a premarital daughter. Ántonia devotes herself to being a caring mother and to looking after a big family although her marriage is also friendship-centered. Chapter 3 adopts a different approach to analyze Charlotte Rittenmeyer's extramarital pregnancy in The Wild Palms by William Faulkner. As opposed to Dorinda and Ántonia who re-enter domesticity to survive, Charlotte runs out on her family and dies of a botched abortion. To help explain the aftermath of illicit pregnancies, I extend or shorten John Duvall's formula of female role mutations: "virgin>sexually active (called whore)>wife" to examine the riddles of female survival and demise. The overall argument suggests that one way or another, nature, society, and family are involved in illegitimately pregnant women's lives, and the more socially compliant a pregnant woman becomes after her transgression, the better chance she can survive with her baby.

Though composition studies has long sought to leverage new technologies of literacy to help students go public, we remain anxious about our ability to do so, as students commonly enter our classrooms already composing for diverse public audiences in a variety of digital contexts. Yet students, too, are often anxious about these new modes of composition, which circulate in a destabilized rhetorical environment where traditional understandings of authority, argument, and audience no longer hold. This article identifies five topoi of this new rhetorical landscape—presence, persistence, permeability, promiscuity, and power—describing the anxieties and affordances they present for student writers, the dispositions toward writing they foster, and the challenges and opportunities they pose for composition. This framework provides a critical vocabulary for compositionists seeking to help students negotiate emerging networked publics.

This thesis is inspired by an ending—that of a cowboy hero riding away, back turned, into the setting sun. That image, possibly the most evocative and most repeated in the Western, signifies both continuing adventure and ever westward motion as well as a restless lack of final resolution. This thesis examines the ambiguous endings and the conditions leading up to them in two film Westerns of the 1950s, George Steven's Shane (1953) and John Ford's The Searchers (1956). Fascinatingly, the tension and uncertainty conveyed throughout these films is also characteristic of life in modernity, a connection which has previously gone overlooked. In my analysis, I study the ties between the postwar film Western and the philosophy of modernity to interpret these works in a new light, illuminating their generic context and their understudied philosophic dimensions. This reading highlights these films' continued relevance, showing how they have enabled creators and audiences to reflect on experiences of modernity in the idiom of the celluloid century.

This dissertation has the urban problems as its study object, and its objective is to read the representations of Goiânia based on the short stories produced by goianos writers during the decades of 1960, 1970, and 1980. This way, 31 short stories were selected among the following writers: Alaor Barbosa, Alcyone Abrahão, José Mendonça Teles, Marietta Telles Machado, Maria Helena Chein and Dionísio Pereira Machado. In this perspective, some questions were problematized: is it possible to read‟ the city of Goiânia from the literary discourse? How can the theorization about literature and city analyze this city from the selected corpus? In what way does the option for the short story justify itself for the development of this work? Why does the chronological piece for the selection of short stories focus the decades of 1960 to 1980? For that, we can take some theorists and critics as the conductors for that they broach critical reflections about the short story and the relation between literature and the urban. In order to have an analysis of the corpus, the operational concepts of Calvino (1990) and Gomes (1994) were used based on a contrastive net of metaphors, such as: crystal, flame, labyrinth, city of the rat and the swallow; the allegorical picture of the flâneur; the mapping, as it was proposed by Lynch (1997), and the statement of the characters‟ footsteps according to what Certeau (2001) suggests. As a follow up, the study focused on specific historical outlined happenings since the transfer of the capital of Goiás and the construction of Goiânia, until the years 50 and 60 that correspond to a period of political, economic and cultural development, mainly on what concerns the establishment of the GEN (Grupo de Escritores Novos Group of New Writers), delimitating the moment when the stories were written. Therefore, the research was directed to the analysis that demonstrated the moment when Goiânia is simply imagined (projected) by the characters, once they are not in the city yet, until the moment when the city is undergone, once the place where the episodes happen are lived on the streets, avenues, stores, hospitals, buildings and the city squares. This way, literature, on its turn, writes the city, making it possible to learn it through the short stories that inscribe it
Esta dissertação tem como objeto de estudo a problemática do urbano, com o objetivo de ler as representações de Goiânia a partir da contística produzida por escritores goianos durante as décadas de 1960, de 1970 e de 1980. Deste modo, foram selecionados 31 contos dos escritores Alaor Barbosa, Alcyone Abrahão, José Mendonça Teles, Marietta Telles Machado, Maria Helena Chein e Dionísio Pereira Machado. Nesta perspectiva, foram problematizados os seguintes questionamentos: É possível ler a cidade de Goiânia a partir do discurso literário? Como a teorização sobre literatura e cidade analisa esta urbe a partir do corpus selecionado? De que modo a escolha do gênero conto se justifica para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho? Por que o recorte cronológico para a seleção dos contos focaliza as décadas de 1960 a 1980? Para tanto, toma-se como fio condutor alguns teóricos e críticos que abordaram reflexões críticas acerca do conto e da relação entre a literatura e o urbano. Assim, foram utilizados para análise do corpus os conceitos operacionais de Calvino (1990) e Gomes (1994), a partir de uma rede contrastante de metáforas como: cristal, chama, labirinto, cidade do rato e da andorinha; a figura alegórica do flâneur; os mapeamentos, como propôs Lynch (1997) e a enunciação dos passos das personagens, conforme sugere Certeau (2001). Em seguida, o estudo centrou-se em determinados acontecimentos históricos que delimitaram desde a transferência da capital de Goiás e a construção de Goiânia, até os anos 50 e 60, que corresponderam a um período de desenvolvimento político, econômico e cultural, sobretudo com a fundação do GEN (Grupo de Escritores Novos), delimitando o momento em que os contos foram escritos. Por conseguinte, a pesquisa foi direcionada às análises, que evidenciaram desde o momento em que Goiânia é apenas imaginada, (projetada) pelas personagens, visto que as mesmas ainda não estão na capital, até os contos em que a urbe é vivenciada, uma vez que a paisagem registrada se refere às ruas, às avenidas, às lojas, aos hospitais, aos prédios e às praças da capital. Assim, a literatura, por sua vez, escreve a cidade, tornando possível apreendê-la através dos contos que a inscrevem

On its surface, Cormac McCarthy's No Country for Old Men appears to be a thoroughly grim and even fatalistic novel, but read in conjunction with W.B. Yeats' "The Second Coming"—a work with which the novel has a number of intertextual connection—it becomes clear that there is a distinct optimism at the heart of the novel. Approaching McCarthy's novel as an intertext with Yeats' poem illuminates an apparent critique of eschatological panic present in No Country for Old Men, provided mainly through Sheriff Bell's reflections on the state of society.

Consummation was the one term about which Kenneth Burke wasn't particularly long-winded - odd considering his claim that it was the apex of his theory of form. Perhaps Burke never explained exactly what consummation was because he himself was never clear on the subject, as he told John Woodcock in an interview toward the end of his career. Burke began conceptualizing his theory of form early on - in his 20s - and published it in his first critical book, Counter-Statement, in 1931. At that time, Burke's theory of form had already taken one evolutionary step - from self-expression, with the focus on the artist, to communication, with the focus on the psychology of the reader. Communication was to Burke an "arousing and fulfilling of desires." However, by the 60s, Burke introduced us to a new term which he only used a handful of times in his entire corpus: consummation. This paper attempts to define consummation by exploring Burke's theory of form and looking to his correspondences with friends and scholars. It offers two answers: first, consummation is the act of a reader responding to a writer in critical conversation; second, consummation is the ultimate cathartic achievement. Both play an important civic role. Using current science regarding the gut in connection with emotional purgation, this paper treats seriously Burke's essay "The Thinking of the Body (Comments on the Imagery of Catharsis in Literature)" and his ideas regarding the "Demonic Trinity": micturition, defecation, and parturition, explaining Burkean catharsis as it differs from, deepens, and extends Aristotelian catharsis. What can we learn from what Burke meant by consummation? That the symbolic world is much more significant to our survival than we may realize. As the world of scientific motion advanced rapidly during Burke's lifetime, he began to lose hope that symbolic action could keep up with it. We can see how important poetry and the symbolic motive was for him; he seemed to think it was a matter of life and death. This paper explores what it meant for Burke to seek a consummated life, and the implications that held for him and for us. In the end, the paper posits the importance of catharsis to society in terms of war and peace.
