Medicinal Zhebeimu refers to the dried bulb of the plant Fritillaria thunbergii, which belongs to the family Liliaceae. Their main production sites are in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui Provinces, with alkaloids as the main components. In this study, according to Chinese Pharmacopoeia, different mobile phases were investigated. The plant Jatropha curcas grows well in different parts of Bangladesh and used in many medicinal purposes locally. The alkaloid atherospermidine and a steroid stigmasterol were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of the stem bark of J. curcas by a combination of column and preparative thin-layer chromatography over silica gel. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR) and by comparison with published data. The composition of root bark oil from Cleistopholis glauca Pierre ex Engler & Diels growing wild in Ivory Coast was investigated by GC (in combination with retention indices) and 13C NMR spectroscopy after partition of hydrocarbons and oxygenated compounds on silica gel.
