Résumé :
The present study reports the pulsatile secretion of gonadotrophins and 17β-oestradiol (OE2) on the day of oestrus and at the mid-luteal phase of the oestrous cycle in mithun (Bos frontalis). The frequency of luteinising hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) pulses was found to be greater (P < 0.05) on the day of oestrus than at the mid-luteal phase. In contrast, the amplitude of the LH and FSH pulses was greater (P < 0.01) at the mid-luteal phase than on the day of oestrus. A synchronised (P < 0.01) LH and FSH secretion pattern was found only at the mid-luteal phase. A

Abstract There are conflicting reports on the presence or absence of estrogen receptor (ER) in the primate corpus luteum, and the discovery of a second type of estrogen receptor, ERβ, adds an additional level of complexity. To reevaluate ER expression in the primate luteal tissue, we used semiquantitative RT-PCR based assays and Western blotting to assess ERα and β messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels in corpora lutea (n = 3/stage) obtained from adult female rhesus monkeys at early (days 3–5), mid (days 6–8), mid-late (days 10–12), and late (days 14–16) luteal phase of the natural menstrual

Steroid hormones act via specific receptors, and these play an important physiological role in the ovary. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cellular distribution of progesterone receptors and their staining intensity in different equine luteal structures during the breeding season, as well as their relationship to luteal cell composition, cell proliferation pattern and plasma progesterone (P4) concentration. There was an increase in proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in large luteal cells from the corpus hemorrhagicum (CH) to mid-luteal phase, followed by a decr

Abstract To obtain further insight into the role of endogenous dopamine on the adenohypophyseal hormones secretion in normal women, responses of the adenohypophyseal hormones to a dopamine antagonist, metoclopramide, were evaluated in 7 normal women during the early follicular, late follicular and mid-luteal phases of the menstrual cycle. PRL increments following metoclopramide were similar in all phases. During the early and late follicular phases, metoclopramide induced no significant change in circulating LH levels. However, a significant rise in serum LH was observed following metocloprami

ABSTRACT The secretion rates of bioactive inhibin, oestradiol and progesterone were measured during the mid-luteal phase and at various times during the follicular phase of the cycle by a sensitive bioassay using sheep pituitary cells in culture in 12 Booroola ewes with and without copies of the Fecundity (F) gene in which the left ovary had been auto-transplanted to the neck. Inhibin secretion was high during the luteal phase and fell in the early follicular phase in all genotypes (P < 0.01). In Booroola ewes with a F/- genotype, inhibin secretion then increased again, towards luteal rates

Résumé :
The synthesis and secretion of progesterone in the corpus luteum are regulated by both endocrine and paracrine/ autocrine factors which affect the steroidogenic cells. Evidence suggests that these cells communicate via cell-cell junctional proteins, the connexins. Previously we have shown that connexin-43 is expressed in both human and baboon (Papio hamadryus anubis) corpora lutea, with differential expression throughout luteal development, but is not detectable in corpora albicantia. We have examined the effect of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), oxytocin, clomiphene citrate and the anti-p

Progesterone secretion and lipid peroxidation induced by treatment with human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) alone or hCG plus phospholipase A2 and PGF2α were measured. Differences were demonstrated in progesterone secretion and lipid peroxide measurements between control and P24-regressed cell suspensions. The experiments suggested that malondialdehyde formation

Studies of erythrocyte cation transport mechanisms in vitro were performed on eight normotensive, premenopausal female subjects at the mid-points of the follicular and luteal phases of their menstrual cycles. Concurrent plasma concentrations of 17β-oestradiol, progesterone, aldosterone and renin activity were measured. 2. Ouabain-resistant, frusemide-resistant rubidium influx (an index of passive potassium diffusion) was significantly lower in the luteal than the follicular phase. 3. Background Ovarian hormones affect cardiovascular health yet few sufficient-sized studies with reliable ovulatory documentation have assessed the QTc-hormonal relationship. This study investigated QTc changes across ovulatory and anovulatory menstrual cycle phases. Methods This prospective cohort investigation, a cardiac sub-study of the Menstruation and Ovulation Study 2 (MOS2), involved 62 healthy, regularly menstruating community-dwelling women during spontaneous menstrual cycles. Fertility in high producing dairy cows has been decreasing over decades. Elevated ammonia and urea levels in circulation and reproductive fluids due to high protein intake is one of the major contributory factors for decreasing fertility observed in dairy cows. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of a) ammonia and urea, and b) high protein diet intake on the mRNA expression levels of mid-luteal phase endometrial candidate fertility genes in lactating dairy cows. In experiment I, the mRNA levels of endometrial candidate genes were measured using qRT-PCR after treating the

Abstract The effect of the contraceptive pill on endometrial histology depends on the factors discussed above. The endometrium of women taking combined oral contraceptives may sometimes show early secretory activity in the glands but secretory changes typical of the mid and late luteal phase are lacking. During the last week of the cycle the glands become atrophic, small, and tubular with a lining of flattened cuboidal epithelium.

Résumé :
The corpus luteum (CL) is a transient endocrine gland that has a vital role in the regulation of the estrous cycle, fertility and the maintenance of pregnancy. In the absence of appropriate support, such as occurs during maternal recognition of pregnancy, the CL will regress. Prostaglandin F2a (PGF) was first suggested as the physiological luteolysin in ruminants several decades ago. Yet, the cellular mechanisms by which PGF causes luteal regression remain poorly defined. In recent years it became evident that the process of luteal regression requires a close cooperation between steroidogenic,

The main goal of this research plan was to elucidate regulatory mechanisms controlling the development, function of the bovine corpus luteum (CL). The CL contains two different sterodigenic cell types and therefore it was necessary to obtain pure cell population. A system was developed in which granulosa and theca interna cells, isolated from a preovulatory follicle, acquired characteristics typical of large (LL) and small (SL) luteal cells, respectively, as judged by several biochemical and morphological criteria. Oxytocin has multiple actions in bovine reproductive tract and it was our purpose to determine the nature of these actions and their significance for the physiology of bovine reproduction. The bovine oxytocin receptors (OTR) gene was cloned and its expression studied during the cycle and pregnancy. OTR mRNA changed in parallel with OTR with control occurring mainly at the transcriptional level. However, the endocrine regulation of OTR were found in endometrium and cervical mucosa at estrus and at parturition. In both tissues OTR were suppressed in the luteal phase and early pregnancy.
