Résumé :

Au Nord Cameroun, les agriculteurs utilisent une paire de boeufs ou bien un âne pour le labour et les travaux d’entretien des cultures. Avant 1997, l’usage du monoboeuf pour la culture attelée n’était pas pris en compte par le développement. Or sur une parcelle cultivée, le passage d’une paire de bovins dans l’interligne pose des difficultés au conducteur (piétinement des plants, casse des tiges par la chaîne de traction, difficultés de manoeuvre en bout de rangs). Le joug « enjambeur » n’a pas été adopté par les paysans car son envergure (160 cm) rend l’attelage difficile à manoeuvrer en bout de ligne. L’attelage monobovin permet de résoudre ces difficultés. En 1998, à la demande de la Société de développement du coton du Cameroun (Sodécoton), l’Institut de recherche agricole pour le développement (Irad) a mis au point et testé en milieu paysan deux modèles de jouguets monobovins. Le modèle Irad BF se caractérise par une pièce en bois en demi-cercle qui épouse la forme de la bosse du zébu (7 500 Fcfa). Le modèle Irad BT se compose de trois pièces de bois ajustées en triangle (8 700 Fcfa). Une série de 50 exemplaires de chaque modèle ont été testés par des agriculteurs volontaires. Une majorité a déclaré préférer le modèle Irad BF car il était parfaitement stable et mieux ajusté sur la bosse de l’animal. Les points faibles du modèle Irad BT ont été les suivants : un prix trop élevé, un défaut d’assemblage des montants, une instabilité dans les virages. Depuis 1999, la Sodécoton a vendu 620 exemplaires du modèle Irad BF. Le travail se poursuit par la mise au point d’une charrette monobovine.

Abstract: This paper surveys literature in art education that explores cultural inclusivity. It then surveys Jewish Canadian history in order to provide a sketch of the cultural context, providing a rationale for teaching Jewish art at Canadian universities. A brief history of the nature of Jewish art and its relationship to that of the dominant cultures in which Jews have lived will be described. It proposes a model for teaching Jewish art and art by Jewish artists in Canadian universities that can provide students with opportunities to truly understand the cultural context in which this work is created, using Israeli-Canadian Sylvia Safdie’s Dust as an example. Keywords: Diversity; Inclusivity; Jewish Art; Sylvia Safdie. Résumé : Cet article se penche sur la littérature du domaine de l’enseignement des arts qui traite d’inclusivité culturelle. On y explore ensuite l’histoire juive canadienne pour dresser un tableau du contexte culturel et fournir un motif d’enseigner l’art juif dans les universités canadiennes. Y sont décrits un bref historique de la nature de l’art juif ainsi que sa relation avec les cultures dominantes au sein desquelles évoluent les Juifs. L’article propose un modèle pour enseigner dans les universités canadiennes l’art juif et des œuvres réalisées par des artistes juifs. Ce modèle permet aux étudiants de mieux comprendre le contexte culturel dans lequel ces œuvres sont créées, notamment *Dust*, œuvre de l’israélo-canadienne Sylvia Safdie. Résumé :

Le roman de Gabriel Kuitche Fonkou laisse découvrir un univers manichéen dans lequel interagissent les cultures bamiléké, fang-béti et autres. Dans un tel contexte, l’espace multiculturel devient le théâtre d’un champ de positionnement ; ce qui complexifie la coexistence entre les cultures et les peuples. Cela signifie que l’abolition des distances culturelles ne rend pas toujours faciles la compréhension entre les peuples et les relations entre groupes ethniques. Au Pays de(s) intégré(s) met en scène les enjeux et logiques identitaires. Ainsi, Kuitche Fonkou révèle le caractère conflictuel et ambivalent de ces lieux identitaires et montre la complexité des relations sociales qui jouent à la croisée des appartenances ethniques et socioéconomiques dans un pays où l’intégration nationale est considérée comme le facteur principal d’unité. En nous servant des trois modèles de sociétés multiculturelles proposées par Lüsebrink et en prenant appui sur la notion d’ « ethnicisation » théorisée par David Simo, cet article vise à montrer que chez Kuitche Fonkou, l’ethnie est instrumentalisée et devient l’objet principal de la loyauté, le but et le moyen de toute action. Il apparaîtra au final que ce professeur-écrivain camerounais cherche à fabriquer un modèle culturel et identitaire qui brise les barrières ethnico-tribales.

Résumé :

Partant d’un modèle macroscopique des facteurs associés à la vitalité d’une minorité linguistique en situation intergroupe, cet article présente cinq principes expliquant comment les structures sociales s’imposent sur les vécus langagiers des membres de la minorité. Ce même modèle montre comment tant les individus que la collectivité peuvent exercer leur autonomie langagière pour contrer ce déterminisme social. Le modèle de l’autonomie culturelle est explicité et appliqué aux communautés de langue officielle en situation minoritaire (CLOSM) dans le but de faire valoir leur besoin d’autonomie institutionnelle pour assurer leur vitalité au Canada. La reconnaissance du droit à l’autonomie culturelle pourrait être un mode de légitimation des droits propres à ces communautés. Les CLOSM sont décrites comme des prolongements des deux cultures sociétales qui constituent le fondement de la dualité linguistique canadienne.

L' interculturel - la mixité ethnique et les interrelations sociales qui la caractérisent - semble se vivre à Saint- Michel, imprégnant son temps et son espace ordinaires des influences culturelles les plus diverses. Tournure prise par les pratiques sociales, notamment dans leurs rapports aux lieux, transposée en modèle culturel et sociétal, l'interculturalité ne qualifie que superficiellement, marginalement, voire artificiellement la manière de vivre la ville aujourd'hui. L'interethnicité, dans ses fondements, dans son vécu et dans sa substance urbaine reste profondément marquée par le poids déterminant d'une sphère mêlant idéologies, cultures et représentations ; souvent au détriment de réalités plus concrètes, plus matérielles.

Dans un précédent article (Culture 11,2), l’auteur proposait un modèle structuraliste reliant suprématie masculine et violence, et pouvant s’appliquer à plusieurs cultures néo-guinéennes. Le présent texte pose le problème de la reproduction de ces structures culturelles. Se basant sur le matériel ethnographique de Herdt sur les Sambia, l’auteur propose une double interprétation structurale et psychanalytique des facteurs intervenant dans l’acquisition d’une identité sociale et individuelle de guerrier par le jeune Sambia. La perspective complémentariste permet une articulation pertinente entre ce codage culturel, et les niveaux individuels d’organisation psychique et d’identité. Cette double analyse permet de tirer quelques importantes conclusions quant à la nature de la violence guerrière, et de poser quelques jalons pour une recherche ultérieure.

Cette étude analyse le programme québécois Éthique et culture religieuse (ECR) dans le cadre de nos travaux sur l’éducation éthique et au vivre-ensemble. Bien que le vivre-ensemble soit une préoccupation majeure en éducation, il demeure un concept au statut incertain. Pour tenter de dépasser cette incertitude, nous nous sommes penchés dans notre étude sur l’analyse de programmes dont est attendue une telle éducation. À cette fin, nous avons construit un modèle d’analyse en sept composantes éthiques : trois composantes simples et quatre composantes maillées. Nous avons utilisé ce modèle comme grille pour étudier les compétences déployées dans le programme ECR. Dans ce texte, nous présentons les résultats de l’analyse. Le portrait qui s’en dégage montre qu’une éducation au vivre-ensemble est présente sous forme de pratique de délibération dans le dialogue et sous forme d’acquisition de connaissances sur les cultures religieuses. Il montre aussi que le vivre-ensemble s’apprend en sollicitant plus particulièrement la dimension cognitive et rationnelle de l’élève en tant que citoyen. Par ailleurs, l’analyse révèle que la réflexion critique sur ses propres modèles de référence ainsi qu’une approche compréhensive de l’autre et la connaissance de ce qui nous structure socialement restent faibles ou absentes.

Le Centre de Nyon (Suisse romande) est le produit d’un programme de recherche scientifique appliquée sur la prévention des maladies cardio-vasculaires. L’analyse des aspects les plus marquants, les conditions de cette expérimentation, l’évaluation qui en a été faite, les développements qu’elle a suscités ailleurs en Suisse romande permettent de montrer combien cette expérience associe une expérimentation scientifique, un projet d’animation en éducation communautaire, un contact étroit avec une clientèle toujours plus nombreuse et des projets politiques. Si le centre de Nyon devient progressivement un modèle de référence de l’idée d’une prévention dans la communauté, encore s’agit-il de s’interroger sur les pratiques de prévention au regard de deux modèles de référence : l’étude des modes de vie et des cultures au quotidien et le modèle de la politique de santé. Il résulte de cet examen que le centre de prévention est caractérisé par une recherche de gain individuel de bien-être et de liberté — un « égoïsme de la santé » — qui, s’il ne cherche pas à faire de la santé le bien privilégié d’une solidarité sociale, joue un rôle de valorisation, y compris des individus les moins privilégiés.

Le système urinaire a pour objectif l’élimination des produits du catabolisme sous forme d’urine. Cette fonction permet au sang d’être épuré en permanence et de maintenir ainsi l’équilibre de la composition sanguine (homéostasie). Plus précisément, la vessie est un réservoir extensible et étanche, responsable de l’emmagasinage de l’urine à basse pression, avant qu’elle soit évacuée hors de l’organisme. Diverses pathologies peuvent compromettre ces propriétés et endommager gravement le haut appareil urinaire. La confection d’une néovessie est alors essentielle pour assurer une collecte à basse pression de l’urine. La reconstruction vésicale par les techniques de chirurgie est associée à des complications cliniques significatives, causées principalement par l’absence de protection contre l’urine, normalement assurée par un épithélium hautement spécialisé : l’urothélium. Contrairement aux débuts de l’ingénierie tissulaire, pendant lesquels l’organisation cellulaire et moléculaire étaient relativement négligées, celles-ci sont aujourd’hui fortement prises en compte. C’est pourquoi cette technique fait appel à diverses matrices et aux cellules de l’hôte pour reproduire un substitut aussi conforme que possible au tissu natif. Toutefois, à ce jour, aucun modèle de substitution n’a été en mesure de pallier aux limites précédemment documentées. La complexité du remplacement vésical motive donc notre équipe à rechercher un substitut alternatif plus adapté cliniquement. L’objectif de ce projet de recherche était la mise au point de nouvelles méthodes pour parvenir à l’élaboration d’un substitut vésical comparable à la muqueuse d’une vessie native, puis la caractérisation de notre modèle aussi bien au plan structural que fonctionnel. Á partir de tissu porcin, plusieurs types cellulaires composant la paroi vésicale sont extraits simultanément puis caractérisés in vitro. Les cellules mésenchymateuses et urothéliales évoluent alors dans une culture tridimensionnelle pour former par génie tissulaire un tissu manipulable. La caractérisation de notre modèle vésical légitimise cette méthode qui semble très prometteuse pour répondre aux besoins dans le domaine
The purpose of the urinary tract is to ensure the evacuation of catabolic products in urine form. This function permits to preserve the equilibrium and consistency of the blood components (homeostasis). More precisely, the bladder is a watertight and compliant reservoir in charge of urine storage at low pressure, before its evacuation out of the organism. The bladder is subject to various pathologies, which could compromise its specific properties and damage the upper urinary tract. Therefore, the elaboration of a new reservoir is essential to collect the urine at low pressure. Surgical reconstruction is associated to significant complications, principally due to the lack of protection against urine, physiologically ensured by the highly specialized uro-eptithelium. Contrarily to the beginning of tissue engineering, cellular and molecular organizations are strongly considered nowadays. It is the reason why this discipline needs different matrices and host cells to reproduce a substitute conform to the original organ. But to date, no bioengineered models were able to completely overcome the limitations previously reported. The complexity of the vesical replacement remained a major challenge that led our team to research a more efficient bladder substitute. This project describes the approaches elaborated to achieve a vesical substitute comparable to the bladder mucosa. In addition, the structural and functional properties of our in vitro reconstructed models will be characterized with the use of different techniques. Based on our previous studies, several cellular types were isolated from the bladder wall, and then characterized in vitro. Using specific techniques of tissue-engineering, bladder mesenchymal and urothelial cells evolve in a three-dimensional culture to produce a tissue easy to handle. The maturation degree of our reconstructed models reached satisfactory characteristics to meet the need in the bladder regenerative field, and could led to better post-surgical results.

La méthode d'auto-assemblage permet la production de substituts cutanés sans matériel exogène. L'objectif principal de notre travail a été de modifier cette méthode originale afin de produire un nouveau modèle de substituts cutanés pathologiques fabriqués à partir de cellules psoriasiques. Dans un premier temps, des substituts sains ont été cultivés en présence et en absence de sérum de veau foetal dans le but d'optimiser les conditions de culture. Puis, des analyses histologiques, immunohistochimiques, de perméabilité et des propriétés physico-chimiques ont été réalisées. Les résultats obtenus ont permis de conclure que le retrait du sérum à partir de la culture à l'interface air-liquide ne cause aucun problème majeur au niveau de la différenciation épidermique, de la jonction dermo-épidermique, du derme et de la perméabilité des substituts. De plus, des analyses par spectroscopic infrarouge à transformée de Fourier ont permis d'observer que le retrait du sérum améliore même l'organisation lipidique pour trois des cinq populations cellulaires testées. Parallèlement à cette étude, des substituts psoriasiques ont été produits à partir de cellules psoriasiques dans le but de vérifier si ces derniers allaient permettre la conservation de ce phénotype en culture. Des analyses histologiques et immunohistochimiques ont été effectuées et ont permis d'observer que le phénotype psoriasique (hyperprolifération et différenciation anormale des kératinocytes) est en partie conservé dans les substituts pathologiques. De plus, lors d'un traitement à l'acide rétinoïque, ceux-ci réagissent de façon similaire à ce qui est observé dans les peaux psoriasiques in vivo. Finalement, des substituts produits à partir de cellules non lésionnelles ont été reconstruits pour vérifier s'il existait une différence entre les cellules lésionnelles et non lésionnelles d'un même patient. Les résultats ont permis d'observer que les cellules non lésionnelles ne sont pas totalement «normales» et qu'elles conservent en partie les caractéristiques du psoriasis. En conclusion, ce nouveau modèle de substituts cutanés pathologiques pourrait devenir un puissant outil dermopharmaceutique permettant de tester de nouveaux traitements pour vaincre le psoriasis.

Le traitement de l’information sensorielle suite à un stimulus externe a comme point de départ l’activité d’une population variée de récepteurs cutanés et sous-cutanés. Les corps cellulaires de ces récepteurs se situent dans les ganglions des racines dorsales (GRD). Ils sont reliés à la moelle épinière (ME) par des neurites. Le challenge pour réaliser un modèle d’étude in vitro des interactions neuro-cutanées réside dans la reproduction de la suite physiologique (peau, neurones des GRD, neurones sensitifs de la ME) et dans la formation de connexions entre cellules épidermiques et neurites des neurones pseudo unipolaires en L. Ce modèle doit intégrer dans un même espace l’ensemble de ces constituants et permettre la mise en place de connexions entre cellules nerveuses et cellules épidermiques ce qui n’a pas encore été réalisé avec les “peaux reconstruites”. Nous avons développé un modèle, intégrant cellules nerveuses (neurones en T, cellules de la ME et cellules gliales) et cellules épidermique (kératinocytes, mélanocytes et cellules de Merkel CM). Les résultats obtenus sont une croissance spécifiquement orientée des neurites, des connexions, des terminaisons nerveuses avec les kératinocytes d’une part et les CM d’autre part. Cette co-culture permet la survie des CM et l’enregistrement d’une activité des neurones en T. L’originalité de ce modèle est donc de proposer in vitro une co-culture de cellules nerveuses et de cellules épidermiques permettant leurs connexions. Ces résultats ouvrent de larges perspectives qui proposent, pour la recherche fondamentale comme pour la recherche appliquée en dermatologie, une alternative à l’expérimentation animale
The skin through its innervation is the support of the fifth sense : the touch. Exogenous stimuli are recognized at the nerve endings which represent avaried population of cutaneous receptors. Cellular bodies of those nerve endings are located in dorsal root ganglion (DRG) and connected at spinal cord by neurites The principal challenge to carry out a model for in vitro studies of the neuro-cutaneous interactions lies in the reproduction orme physiological continuation previously described (skin, neurons 0f the DRG, sensitive neurons of the spinal cord) and in the reconstruction of connections between epidermal cells and neurites of the pseudo-unipolar sensory neurons. This model must integrate in the same space all these components and allow the instatlation of connections between nervous cells and epidermal cells. This feature was not realised before with other “skin equivalent”. We have performed a model, integrating nervous cells (pseudo-unipolar sensory neurons, cells of the spinal cord and glial cells) and epidermal cells (keratinocytes, melanocytes and Merkel cells). We obtained a specifically directed growth of neurites, connections, synapse-like formation with both keratinocytes and Merkel cells. This co-culture allowed the survival of Merkel cells and the recording of an activity of the pseudo-unipolar sensory neurons. The originality of this model is thus to propose an in vitro co-culture of nervous oeIls md epidermal cells allowing their connections. These results open large perspectives from fundamental research to applied research in dermatology, as an alternative to the animal experimentation

Des cultures primaires de cellules atriales de coquilles St Jacques Pecten Maximus ont été établies au cours de ce travail. Ces cultures peuvent être obtenues à partir de cellules inoculées dès l'isolement ou après cryopréservation. Une monocouche cellulaire est observée après une semaine de culture. L'utilisation de facteurs matriciels d'origine marine permet de réduire ce temps en facilitant l'adhésion. Différentes méthodes analytiques appliquées aux cultures asynchrones ou à des cellules synchronisés en transition G1/S selon une méthodologie adaptée de la littérature, montrent qu'environ 15 % de cellules inoculées sont aptes à se diviser. La croissance peut être stimulée par addition de certains compléments au milieu sans toutefois permettre l'obtention d'un lignée. Parmi les cellules adhérentes, les cardiomyocytes, que nous avons caractérisés immunocytochimiquement et electrophysiologiquement (récepteurs de type B-adrénergique et cholinergiques de type muscarinique), sont spontanément contractiles in vitro dès huit jours et le restent durant un mois. Ces cellules s'avèrent intéressantes pour étudier la toxicité de xénobiotiques en utilisant en particulier le Patch-clamp comme méthode analytique. Un deuxième type de cellules adhérentes, qui présentent des analogies structurales avec les cellules des glandes péricardiques dont la littérature signale le rôle dans la détoxication, semble intervenir dans les processus de biotransformation de phase de type I et II. Une stimulation de certaines activités enzymatiques par des inducteurs de référence et par certains contaminants du milieu marin a en effet été notée. In this study, atrial cells primary cuture of the scallop, Pecten maximus was established. A monolayer culture can already be observed one week following the initial plating of either fresh or cryopreserved cells. Cell attachment was improved and was obtained faster when the cells were plated on marine substrate. Combined analytical techniques, tested in asynchronous cells and synchronised cells in transition G1/S, showed that about 15 % of plated cells are able to proliferate. The growth can be stimulated by supplementation of the medium with various factors but no permanent cell line have been obtained. Among adherent cells, the cardiomyocytes, characterized by both immunocytochemical and electrophysiological features (beta-adrenergic and muscarinic receptors), were able to spontaneously contract in vitro by using especially patch-clamp technique. One another kind of adherent cells, having structural similitaries with pericardial gland cells described to be important in the dexintoxication function, seems to be involved in biotransformation activities of phase I and II. Indeed, we have actually been able to stimulate these enzymatic activities by reference inductors and by some marine contaminants. Taken together, our cellular model demonstrate its potential for fundamental and applied bioessay research studies

Le périmètre de Cébalat a été aménagé dans le but de valoriser la réutilisation des eaux usées en agriculture céréalière. La méthodologie adoptée consiste à construire à l'aide de CropSyst, d'un GIS et d'un modèle bio-économique une base de données déterminant l'impact de l'irrigation et de la fertilisation azotée sur la marge brute de l'agriculteur, l'accumulation de sel dans le sol et la lixiviation de nitrate. Les résultats obtenus à l'échelle de la parcelle montrent que le modèle simule correctement l'évolution de la teneur en eau et de la salinité du sol et sont moins satisfaisants pour l'azote. A l'échelle des segments, le modèle simule correctement le rendement final des cultures, excepté celui de la luzerne. Le modèle économique l'application d'un taux d'actualisation économique idéal de 0% par rapport au taux réel de 10% a engendré des fractions de lessivage au moment de l'irrigation plus importantes et une accumulation du sel plus maîtrisée, donc un système durable à long terme sur ce critère. La comparaison des apports azotés sur blé et maïs entre modèle et agriculteurs donne une indication sur la non durabilité des pratiques actuelles des agriculteurs
This thesis aims to study the sustainability of the farming systems in the Cebalat watershed. The methodology adopted in this thesis consists on building, by the use of CropSyst, a GIS, and a recursive stochastic model, a database that allows us to analyse the effects of cropping patterns on farm income, salt accumulation and nitrate lixiviation. At the field scale CropSyst seems to simulate weIl soil water content and the average salt concentration on the first meter depth. Nevertheless, simulated soil nitrate was less satisfactory. The CropSyst model simulates correctly the final yield at the sector scale for aIl crops except for alfalfa. Assuming a realistic discount rate, the bio-economic model established with two-decision period based on quantity of rainfall in each period, reproduces closely the real system and it allows predicting soil quality degradation due to long-term salinisation. This problem is related with the lack of water that should be applied with leaching purposes. The comparison of the amount of nitrogen supplied and leached for wheat and corn between model and farmers proves that the sustainability of the production system is not assured

AbstractThis chapter introduces the cultures framework, which offers a conceptual structure for visualising and analysing the relationship between culture and sustainability. It has been extensively tested through research on a wide range of sustainability problems. The core of the framework—which conveys the interactions between motivators, activities and materiality, together called the cultural ensemble—reflects widely shared understandings of culture’s features and dynamics as discussed in Chapter 3. The framework also incorporates conceptual elements from other fields of knowledge. From systems theory, it takes understandings of system dynamics and system boundaries. From structuration, it adopts the concept of agency and applies it to circumscribe actors’ cultures. Contextual pressures on culture are drawn into consideration as external influences. Sustainability outcomes are the tangible effects of how these variables work through actors’ cultures. These ideas are visually represented in a model which is applicable to cultural analysis at any scale.

AbstractCulture’s tendency to resist change, or to change only incrementally, is often described as one of its defining features. This resilience can be beneficial if cultural ensembles have positive sustainability outcomes, but problematic where they do not. This chapter draws from research that has used the cultures framework to examine cultural stasis and the mechanisms by which cultural ensembles endure. It starts with examples of culture’s role in sustainability-related outcomes. Consistent cultural patterns relating to particular outcomes (e.g. household energy efficiency, mobility choices) can be identified across populations. The chapter then describes the various processes by which cultural arrangements resist change. These include dynamic alignments within cultural ensembles, cultural actors’ lack of agency and external influences on cultural arrangements. The examples show how the framework offers a universal, scale-free model for the analysis of culture in the context of sustainability.

Online learning programs have become more accessible to a wide range of learners all over the world. This raises the question whether differences between various groups are taken into consideration in the design of these programs. While new devices and technologies make learning more readily available, ignoring cultural issues can lead to a total breakdown of communication. This study aims to investigate how issues of culture should influence instructional design of online courses. Globalization of education led to a need to consider cultural diversity as an important factor in the adoption and effectiveness of learning. This is enhanced by the fact that e-learning breaks time and space barriers, being available to students from any geographical area, interacting outside the boundaries of a common context. Learners have the opportunity to study anytime, anywhere. Universities are becoming more open to international students; some are setting branch campuses in different parts of the world. Multinational organizations have offices in different countries, staffed with local employees, who need to work in a similar way with their colleagues all over the world. Interdisciplinary teams are required to work together and find a common language. In all cases, instructional designers are creating courses for people from a different culture than their own, and often for heterogeneous audiences coming from a multitude of cultures, each student needing to transfer what they learn into their own context. The paper defines culture, starting from Hofstede’s five dimensions characterizing national cultures (Hofstede, 1996), and argues that in the context of online learning the notion of culture should be extended to include other cultural models, apart from the national one, such as organizational culture and professional groups culture (Schein, 1990). Acknowledging that culture means more than nationality, and individuals often belong to more than one culture (Collis, 1999) helps paint a complex situation which the instructional designer must deal with. Given the complexity of the context presented above, the present study investigates how do models of instructional design take into account cultural diversity, by answering the following research questions: • Should instructional design take into account cultural aspects at all? • Should instructional design strive for a culture-free product? • How can the instructional design model incorporate awareness of cultural issues? • What are the implications for instructional designers and their professional development? A fairly wide range of responses and models are suggested by the literature (and are detailed in the full paper), but the responsibility of choosing and applying them lies with the instructional designer. Since culture is a relatively new concern in the field of instructional design, few of these models were applied in contexts significant enough in order to generate solid recommendations or to indicate an obvious choice. This situation makes the decision of instructional designers even more difficult. The voices of instructional designers are also presented, combining the results of the study did by Rogers, Graham and Mayes (2007) into instructional designers creating courses for students from various national cultures, with the results of a case study research conducted by the author regarding instructional designers working for learners from various organizational and professional cultures. Recommendations into further research connected to the issues identified conclude the paper.

Estas festividades de expresión popular tradicional construyen parte de los modelos y la organización de estas ciudades. ICOMOS y UNESCO, acuerdan que el patrimonio material e inmaterial están unidos y el patrimonio intangible está constituido por aquella parte invisible que reside en el espíritu mismo de las culturas. Un sistema regional puede estimular la economía de ciudades, reafirmar sus rasgos identitarios y puede llegar a ser patrimonio de la cultura nacional. Las estrategias de intervención urbanística y regional contribuyen a una visión y un diseño integral de espacios urbanos, y propiciar un menor impacto para conservar la historia del lugar y del evento. Principales puntos: conformación del marco teórico, el análisis de casos existentes y la construcción de estrategias para lugares del análisis. Mass cultural events are organized mass celebrations that generate an impact in the city that produces them appropriating the place where are inserted. These festivities of traditional popular expression construct part of the models and the Organization of these cities. ICOMOS and UNESCO, say that the tangible and intangible heritages are united and intangible heritage is constituted by that invisible part that resides in the spirit of cultures itself. In a regional system they can stimulate the economy of urban centers, reaffirm their identity features and may be heritage of national culture. Urban and regional intervention strategies contribute to a vision and a comprehensive design of urban spaces, and lead to less impact to preserve the history of the place and the event. Main points: conformation of the theoretical framework, the analysis of previous cases and the construction of strategies for the target place.

ISO 9241-110 describes seven dialog principles that should be applied in human computer interaction design. In this paper, some ideas are presented regarding the question whether these dialog principles are valid in general with the same strength or when used in different cultures around the world if there are differences in their applicability and subsequently how this question can be tackled. First, the influence of culture on the user’s interaction with the system and on usability and usability engineering is elucidated. Second, cultural differences and methods to describe cultural differences such as cultural models are presented. Third, the analysis of the influence of culture on dialog principles is exemplified by the dialogue principle "suitability of the task". Finally, the results are discussed and challenges are identified. The ideas in this paper pave the way for deeper research in this area.

The paper is based on the author?s experience of teaching an Intercultural Business Communication course and seminar to ethnically and culturally diverse groups of graduate students of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. It looks at students? culture-specific attitudes and responses to a variety of teaching, learning, and research methods including, apart from the traditional ones (i.e., classroom interaction with the course and seminar instructor or the use of paper-printed material), a wide range of computer-assisted options such as the use of resources and information - course notes, lectures, hand-outs, articles, videos, useful links - available in electronic format on the master?s programme platform, additional self-study/research material sent by email or available on the Internet, as well as email-administered tests/ exercises/ case-studies. Cultural differences in learning styles are explained in terms of various cultures? distinct communication preferences, their specific treatment of and attitude towards time (punctuality, deadlines, lead time, short or long-term orientation), authority (including the way the teacher-student relationship is understood across cultures), uncertainty, group orientation vs. individual achievement, the importance attached to rules and standards, etc. The theoretical framework of this paper consists in Geert Hofstede?s and Fons Trompenaars?s dimension-based models of intercultural analysis, Edward T. Hall?s classification of cultures from the point of view of communication style, Romanian researcher Adina Luca?s analysis of the Romanian culture, and the author?s own views on cultural differences and their impact on students? learning styles and habits. The paper aims to demonstrate that, despite the growing popularity of technology-mediated education and communication in our increasingly ?flat?, borderless world, the effectiveness of e-learning in relation to the more traditional training options should always be considered within the context of culture.

Diffusion of information and communication technologies is a global phenomenon. In spite of rapid globalization there are considerable differences between nations in terms of the adoption and usage of new technologies. Several studies exploring causal factors including national cultures of information and communication technology adoption have been carried out. The focus of this paper is slightly different from other studies in this area. Rather than concentrating on the individual information technology an overall eGovernment readiness is the focus. This research conducted an analysis of the impact national culture has on eGovernment readiness and its components for 95 countries. eGovernment readiness assessment used in this study is based on the UN Global eGovernment Survey 2003, while the national cultural dimensions were identified using Hofstede’s model of cultural differences. The research model and hypotheses were formed and tested using correlation and regression analysis. The findings indicate that worldwide eGov-ernment readiness and its components are related to culture. The result has theoretical and practical implications.

At Taylor’s University, Intercultural Design is a project-based module where students are exposed to different cultures of foreign countries and are required to understand the role of design in a wide cultural, political and social context. Through this experience in addition to reflective practice, conceptualizing of ideas and active experimentations, the participating graphic communication students interpret their immersion of culture subjectively and present a piece that communicates the said cultural elements to intended audiences. The present COVID-19 international travel restrictions had disrupted this knowledge acquisition process and posed limits of onsite exploration, engagement with foreign agencies and face-to-face interactions with communities and cultures. However, previous studies had posited the potential of utilizing similar approaches via virtual space, place metaphors and avatar-environment interaction. Henceforth, this paper explored Virtual Reality (VR) technology that replicated environments of foreign destinations and allowed students to map information from this perspective in order to produce a graphic design-based output. This paper intended to further examine the effectiveness of VR by comparing information and feedback of; 1)participating students who had firsthand experience of foreign environment, and 2) students who only have second hand experience via VR. This paper also proposed the suitable selection of VR tools based on cost, accessibility, technological requirements and immersion satisfaction via online learning. The results achieved during the analysis is pertinent to endorse the intention towards the use of VR tools for online collaborative and student-centered learning experience for this module.

Urban culture is a core component of a city’s humanistic characteristics and urban charm. An in-depth exploration of it will help deepen the cultural cognition of the city and enhance the joint force of the city’s cultural development. Under the background of emphasizing the deep integration of culture and technology, this research proposes a digital visualization system for the laws and connotations of Beijing's urban culture. For this purpose, data on Hutongs, time-honored brands, and literary landmarks were collected from three dimensions of residential areas, commercial areas, and urban landmarks. The concept of urban-culture-value was proposed, and corresponding indicators and an evaluation system were constructed. Besides, a visualization system was provided to show the distribution and relationship of urban culture in geographic space. Lastly, through case analysis, a model of Beijing Urban Cultural Belt was established, and the relationship between urban culture and political center was explored. Furthermore, three types of urban culture distribution models, centralized, conventional, and marginal, were proposed.

Résumé :

The article deals with the mental-existential relationship between ethnoculture, national identity and media culture as a necessary factor for their preservation, transformation, on the example of national original algorithms, matrix models, taking into account global tendencies and Ukrainian archetypal-specific features in Ukraine. the media actively serve the domestic oligarchs in their information-virtual and real wars among themselves and the same expansive alien humanitarian acts by curtailing ethno-cultural programs-projects on national radio, on television, in the press, or offering the recipient instead of a pop pointer, without even communicating to the audience the information stipulated in the media laws − information support-protection-development of ethno-culture national product in the domestic and foreign/diaspora mass media, the support of ethnoculture by NGOs and the state institutions themselves. In the context of the study of the cultural national socio-humanitarian space, the article diagnoses and predicts the model of creating and preserving in it the dynamic equilibrium of the ethno-cultural space, in which the nation must remember the struggle for access to information and its primary sources both as an individual and the state as a whole, culture the transfer of information, which in the process of globalization is becoming a paramount commodity, an egregore, and in the post-traumatic, interrupted-compensatory cultural-information space close rehabilitation mechanisms for national identity to become a real factor in strengthening the state − and vice versa in the context of adequate laws («Law about press and other mass media», Law «About printed media (press) in Ukraine», Law «About Information», «Law about Languages», etc.) and their actual effect in creating motivational mechanisms for preserving/protecting the Ukrainian language, as one of the main identifiers of national identity, information support for its expansion as labels cultural and geostrategic areas.

The findings from this ARC Linkage project The Role of the Creative Arts in Regional Australia: a social impact model (LP180100477) indicate that arts and cultural projects and programs have the potential to be profound drivers of community thriveability including attracting workforce, improving wellbeing, employment and tourism opportunities. These findings emphasise that particularly in regional and remote communities social, cultural and economic outcomes and engagement with art, culture and creativity are often entwined.
