Since the start of the international project in 1997, over 2000 patients have received a haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), mostly autologous, as treatment for a severe autoimmune disease, with overall 85% 5-year survival and 43% progression-free survival. Around 30% of patients in all disease subgroups had a complete response, often durable despite full immune reconstitution. In many cases, e.g. systemic sclerosis, morphological improvement such as reduction of skin collagen and normalization of microvasculature was documented, beyond any predicted known effects of intense immunosuppression alone. It is hoped that the results of the three running large prospective randomized controlled trials will allow modification of the protocols to reduce the high transplant-related mortality which relates to regimen intensity, age of patient, and comorbidity. Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) have been recently tested in various autoimmune diseases, exploiting their immune modulating properties and apparent low acute toxicity. MSC display immune privilege in that the patient requires no immunosuppression prior to allogeneic MSC infusion. Despite encouraging many small phase I/II studies, only 2 prospective controlled trials which achieved their primary endpoints have been published.

Many observational studies have consistently shown that high-flux haemodialysis (hf-HD) has positive effects on the survival and morbidity of uraemic patients when compared with low-flux haemodialysis, and mainly considering the results of Membrane Permeability Outcome (MPO) studies there is evidence favouring high-flux treatments. A further improvement in convective treatments is represented by the on-line modality. On-line preparation from fresh dialysate by a cold-sterilizing filtration process is a cost-effective method of providing large volumes of infusion solution. Randomized, controlled, large-sized trials with long follow-up in haemofiltration (HF) are unfortunately lacking, possibly suggesting the difficulties in performing these trials, mainly in providing the same urea Kt/V considered adequate in HD. On-line haemodiafiltration (HDF) is considered the most efficient technique of using high-flux membranes, and clearances of small solutes like urea are higher in HDF than in HF and of middle solutes like β‎‎‎2-microglobulin are higher than in hf-HD. Thus HDF, as a strategy based on simultaneous diffusive and convective transport, may combine the beneficial effects of diffusive standard HD with the possible advantages of convective HF. Five large, randomized controlled trials just concluded are inconclusive in definitively clarifying the impact of on-line HDF on chronic kidney disease stage 5 patient outcomes.

This book shows how changes in music software design in the first decades of the twenty-first century shaped the production techniques and performance practices of artists across media, from hip-hop and electronic dance music to video games and mobile apps. Emerging alongside developments in digital music distribution such as peer-to-peer file sharing and the MP3 format, digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as FL Studio and Ableton’s Live encouraged rapid music-creation workflows through flashy, user-friendly interfaces. Meanwhile, software such as Avid’s Pro Tools attempted to protect its status as the industry-standard “professional” DAW by incorporating design elements from predigital technologies. Other software, such as Cycling ’74’s Max, asserted its alterity to “commercial” DAWs by offering users just a blank screen. The book examines the social, cultural, and political values designed into music software and how those become embodied by musical communities through production and performance. It reveals ties between maximalist design in FL Studio, skeuomorphic design in Pro Tools, and gender inequity in the music products industry. It connects the computational thinking required by Max and iZotope’s innovations in artificial intelligence with the cultural politics of Silicon Valley’s “design thinking.” Finally, it examines what happens when software becomes hardware and users externalize their screens using musical instrument digital interface (MIDI) controllers, mobile media, and video-game controllers. Amid the perpetual upgrade culture of music technology, Push the book provides a model for understanding software as a microcosm for the increasing convergence of globalization, neoliberal capitalism, and techno-utopianism that has come to define our digital lives.

O Centro Universitário de Mineiros (UNIFIMES) é uma Instituição de Ensino Superior Municipal, localizado na cidade de Mineiros, Estado de Goiás, criada pela Lei Municipal nº 1.495, de 14 de dezembro de 2010, credenciada pelo Decreto Estadual nº 7.333 de 13 de maio de 2011 e mantida pela Fundação Integrada Municipal de Ensino Superior (FIMES), instituída pela Lei Municipal nº 278, de 11 de março de 1985. A UNIFIMES funcionou como Faculdades Isoladas de 1985 a 2004, Faculdades Integradas de 2005 a 2010 e foi credenciada como Centro Universitário no período de 2011 a 2021. Oferta cursos de graduação e pósgraduação lato sensu em várias áreas de conhecimento. Atualmente conta com duas unidades. A sede, que está localizada em Mineiros-GO com a oferta de 14 cursos de graduação. Dentre esses, dois deles funcionam também no Campus de Trindade-GO. É regida pela legislação nacional através do Ministério da Educação (MEC), legislação do Conselho Estadual de Educação de Goiás (CEE/GO), pelo Estatuto da FIMES, pelo Estatuto e Regimento Geral da UNIFIMES e por normas emanadas de seus órgãos colegiados. O Artigo 24 do seu Estatuto define a Pró-Reitoria de Ensino, de Pesquisa e de Extensão (PROEPE) como sendo um órgão executivo de coordenação, supervisão, fomento e controle das atividades inerentes ao ensino, à pesquisa e à extensão. De 1985 a 2010, o controle destas atividades era de um departamento similar, com outra denominação. O objetivo geral do trabalho foi apresentar um relato sobre as experiências vivenciadas no ensino, pesquisa e extensão, no período de 1985 a 2020. Assim como analisado se a sua prática foi compatível com as políticas de ensino, de pesquisa e de extensão prevista na Lei de Diretrizes e Bases para a oferta do Ensino Superior. O que se pôde perceber em 35 anos é que a Instituição se preocupou com a oferta de um ensino que atendesse os parâmetros de qualidade, privilegiando e integrando-o à pesquisa e extensão, tanto que, no segundo semestre de 2020, a instituição protocolou junto ao CEE/GO o pedido de credenciamento como Universidade.
