The childhood memories of most Turkish citizens are full of images of national holiday celebrations. Loudly recited heroic poems, enthusiastic folk dance performances, costume parades and school shows, anxious teachers, and involuntary laughter during the long, silent moments of commemoration-all are part of these images. A few years ago (in 1998), Turkey celebrated the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Republic, giving us an opportunity to rethink these remembrances as both collective and personal experiences, with all their political and social implications. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The 500th anniversary of the onset of the Lutheran reformation was celebrated in Denmark during most of 2017. Unlike the celebrations in Norway, Sweden and Germany, the Danish celebrations had a remarkable focus on the national significance of the Reformation. The celebrations ranged from large, state-sponsored national events to more than one thousand local arrangements involving civil society, educational institutions and parishes. It is indicated that one of the tools for this was patriotic celebrations, among which the celebrations in honor of the January Uprising of 1863 occupied an important place. It is emphasized that the L’viv Polish community annually celebrated two dates related to this uprising: in August in honor of the members of the National Government executed by the Russian a
