Résumé :
The traditional quality detection method for transparent Nonel tubes relies on human vision, which is inefficient and susceptible to subjective factors. Especially for Nonel tubes filled with the explosive, missed defects would lead to potential danger in blasting engineering. The factors affecting the quality of Nonel tubes mainly include the uniformity of explosive filling and the external diameter of Nonel tubes. The existing detection methods, such as Scalar method, Analysis method and infrared detection technology, suffer from the following drawbacks: low detection accuracy, low efficiency and limited detection items. A new quality detection system of Nonel tubes has been developed based on machine vision in order to overcome these drawbacks. Firstly the system architecture for quality detection is presented. Then the detection method of explosive dosage and the relevant criteria are proposed based on mapping relationship between the explosive dosage and the gray value in order to detect the excessive explosive faults, insufficient explosive faults and black spots. Finally an algorithm based on image processing is designed to measure the external diameter of Nonel tubes. The experiments and practical operations in several Nonel tube manufacturers have proved the defect recognition rate of proposed system can surpass 95% at the detection speed of 100m/min, and system performance can meet the quality detection requirements of Nonel tubes. Therefore this quality detection method can save human resources and ensure the quality of Nonel tubes.

Kata kunci: elektronik, fragmentasi, digging time ABSTRACT One important factor that influences the quality of blasting results is the accuracy of the delay of the blasting initiation system used. At present, the blast activity at PAMA CMD Pit PT Kaltim Prima Coal uses a non-electric (nonel) detonator which has a delay time accuracy of ± 97-98% of the planned delay. The results of fragmentation analysis using WipFrag™ software and measurement of digging time on nonel blasting showed % passing 300 mm (P30) was 80.64% with digging time of 11.10 seconds in the Pelikan Pit and P30 of 82.66% with digging time of 10.41 seconds in the Kanguru Pit.The size of the fragmentation in nonel blast at PAMA CMD Pit actually has met the standard fragmentation size applied at PT KPC which is P30 ≥ 80%, but there is still potential to increase this result by using the DigiShot ™ Plus (DS +) electronic detonator. The use of DS + which has an accuracy of delay time reaching ± 99.8% of the plan delay time, not only to increase the quality of the fragmentation size, but also improve digging time and reduce the use of Lead in Line (LiL) with remote firing applications. The results of DS + blasting in Pelikan Pit showed P30 was 86.24% or 5.6% higher than nonel blasting with digging time 10.22 seconds or 7.9% faster than nonel blasting. The data obtained in the Kanguru Pit showed P30 was 87.55% or 4.9% higher with a digging time of 9.66 seconds or 7.2% faster than nonel blasting. This data was obtained from the use of DS + as many as 8,541 units in 89 blasting locations in the Pelikan Pit and the Kanguru PAMA CMD Pit PT KPC. In line with the improvement in the quality of fragmentation and digging time, DS + blasting in the PAMA CMD Pit also contributed to improved digging equipment productivity which increased by ± 2.5% and savings in the use of LiL along 49.8 km. It can be concluded, the use of electronic detonators in blasting has the potential to improve the quality of blasting results and blast cost savings if applied optimally. Résumé :
Zebrafish signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) controls the cell movements during gastrulation. Here, we show that noncell-autonomous activity of STAT3 signaling in gastrula organizer cells controls the polarity of neighboring cells through Dishevelled-RhoA signaling in the Wnt-planar cell polarity (Wnt-PCP) pathway. In STAT3-depleted embryos, although all the known molecules in the Wnt-PCP pathway were expressed normally, the RhoA activity in lateral mesendodermal cells was down-regulated, resulting in severe cell polarization defects in convergence and extension movements identical to Strabismus-depleted embryos. Cell-autonomous activation of Wnt-PCP signaling by ΔN-dishevelled rescued the defect in cell elongation, but not the orientation of lateral mesendodermal cells in STAT3-depleted embryos. The defect in the orientation could be rescued by transplantation of shield cells having noncell-autonomous activity of STAT3 signaling. These results suggest that the cells undergoing convergence and extension movement may sense the gradient of signaling molecules, which are expressed in gastrula organizer by STAT3 and noncell-autonomously activate PCP signaling in neighboring cells during zebrafish gastrulation.

Résumé :
Auricularia auricula is a kind of nutrient-rich edible fungus, which has the reputation of “king of vegetarians.” In this paper, the electronic nose combined with GC-MS technology was used to analyze the volatile components of A. auricula in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shanghai, and Sichuan provinces to investigate the differences and characteristics of A. auricula in different origins. The results showed that the electronic nose could obviously distinguish the samples from Jilin and Shanghai with a high degree of discrimination, while it was inappropriate to distinguish the samples from Heilongjiang and Sichuan Province. GC-MS was used to further analyze the volatile compounds in A. auricula qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that 98 volatile components were detected and 23 of them were common components, including alcohols, aldehydes, acids, esters, hydrocarbons, and other volatile components. The relative content of acetic acid and diethyl azodicarboxylate in A. auricula from the four origins was relatively high. According to the relative odor activity value (ROAV), it was found that the key compounds that caused the aroma difference between different origins were 1-octene-3-ol, cis-3-nonene-1-ol, (E)-2-octenal, (E)-2-nonenal, (E,E)-2,4-nonadienal, and 3-methyl butanal.

Résumé :
Abstract Background: Double-hit lymphomas (DHL) - diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) with concurrent rearrangements of MYC and BCL2 and/or BCL6, and double-expressor lymphomas (DEL) - DLBCL with co-expression of MYC and BCL2 by immunohistochemistry (IHC), are associated with poor outcomes after standard chemoimmunotherapy. We have previously demonstrated that patients with relapsed or refractory (rel/ref) DHL and DEL have inferior outcomes after autologous stem cell transplantation (autoSCT) compared to patients with neither DEL nor DHL [Herrera et al, ASH 2015]. Although patients with DEL and DHL have inferior outcomes after chemotherapy-based treatment modalities, we hypothesized that allogeneic SCT (alloSCT) could potentially abrogate that negative prognostic impact. Data are extremely limited regarding the outcome of patients with DHL who undergo alloSCT, and no study has examined alloSCT outcomes in patients with DEL. We studied alloSCT outcomes in a multicenter cohort of rel/ref DLBCL patients and evaluated the prognostic impact of DEL and DHL status. Methods: We retrospectively studied patients with rel/ref DLBCL, transformed indolent lymphoma (TIL), or high-grade B-cell lymphoma unclassified (BCLU) who had available tumor tissue and underwent alloSCT at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts General Hospital, or City of Hope between 1/2000 and 5/2014. IHC for MYC, BCL2, and BCL6 were performed. DEL was defined as MYC expression in ≥ 40% tumor cells and BCL2 expression in ≥ 50% tumor cells. FISH for MYC was performed using dual-color break-apart probes. Cases with MYC-rearrangement had FISH performed for BCL2 and BCL6 using break-apart probes. Rearrangement was defined as ≥ 10% nuclei with break-apart signals. DHL was defined as concurrent rearrangement of MYC and BCL2 and/or BCL6. Results: Tumor tissue was available in 103 patients, among whom we could obtain complete IHC and FISH data in 74. In these 74 patients, the median age was 54 years (range 24-69); 69% had DLBCL/BCLU whereas 31% had TIL; the median number of prior therapies was 4 (range 2-9); 58% had prior autoSCT; 73% were in complete or partial remission (CR/PR) at alloSCT; 77% had reduced intensity conditioning (RIC); 78% had a matched related or unrelated donor. 4y progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR), and non-relapse mortality (NRM) in the overall cohort were 34%, 40%, 44% and 22%, respectively, with a median follow-up of 46 months for survivors. 47% of patients had DEL and 14% had DHL. The proportion of patients with a history of primary refractory disease was higher among DHL (60%) and DEL (52%) patients compared to nonDHL/nonDEL patients (37%), although the difference was not significant (p=0.3). Overall, there were no significant differences in clinical characteristics between patients with DHL, DEL, and nonDHL/nonDEL. Neither DEL nor DHL were significantly associated with outcome (Figure). The 4y PFS in DEL v non-DEL patients was 29% v 39% (p=0.2), 4y OS 30% v 49% (p=0.11), 4y CIR 50% v 40% (p=0.3), and 4y NRM 21% v 22% (p=1.0). The 4y PFS in DHL v non-DHL patients was 40% v 33% (p=0.6), OS 50% v 37% (p=0.4), CIR 40% v 45% (p=0.9), and NRM 20% v 22% (p=0.8). In multivariable Cox models for PFS and OS, age ≥ 55 (PFS: HR 0.4, p=0.002; OS: HR 0.4, p=0.005), refractory disease (not CR/PR) at alloSCT (PFS: HR 2.4, p=0.009; OS HR 2.6, p=0.007), and TIL (PFS HR 0.4, p=0.018; OS HR 0.4, p=0.028) were associated with PFS and OS, but DEL (PFS HR 1.2, p=0.5; OS HR 1.6, p=0.12) and DHL (PFS HR 0.8, p=0.7; OS HR 0.8, p=0.7) were not. We also constructed multivariable competing risk regression models for CIR and NRM. Age, remission status, histology, and conditioning intensity were associated with relapse, while no factor was significantly associated with NRM. Neither DEL (CIR HR 1.2, p=0.7, NRM HR 0.8, p=0.7) nor DHL (CIR HR 1.1, p=0.9, NRM HR 0.8, p=0.8) were associated with either outcome in those models. Conclusions: AlloSCT produced durable remissions in heavily treated rel/ref DLBCL patients, regardless of DEL and DHL status. In our cohort, DEL and DHL status did not have a significant prognostic impact. Although patients with DEL or DHL have poorer outcomes after chemoimmunotherapy and autoSCT, our results suggest that alloSCT may overcome the chemoresistance of double-hit/double-expressor tumors. The presence of large mixing between the strange members of the 1++ and 1+− nonets is instrumental in deriving the close correlation between the two nonets. Résumé :
Degradation of oxidized or oxidatively modified proteins is an essential part of the antioxidant defenses of cells. 4-Hydroxy-2-nonenal, a major reactive aldehyde formed by lipid peroxidation, causes many types of cellular damage. It has been reported that 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal-modified proteins are degraded by the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway or, in some cases, by the lysosomal pathway. However, our previous studies using U937 cells showed that 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal-modified glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is degraded by cathepsin G. In the present study, we isolated the 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal-modified glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase-degrading enzyme from rat neutrophils to an active protein fraction of 28 kDa. Using the specific antibody, the 28 kDa protein was identified as cathepsin G. Moreover, the degradation activity was inhibited by cathepsin G inhibitors. These results suggest that cathepsin G plays a crucial role in the degradation of 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal-modified glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase.

Résumé :
The delay-time of detonators in hole-by-hole blasting is generally calculated accurately considering they have great influence on the blasting effect, such as blasting vibration and blasting slungshot. The high-precision nonel detonator and digital electronic detonator are been commonly used because of their accuracy of delay-time. However, each detonator has an allowable error range of delay-time due to the difference in manufacturing process. In the initiation network, the errors of delay-time often accumulate gradually as the number of detonators increases. Therefore, theoretical delay-time and actual delay-time with error in the detonating network were discussed based on the delay-time errors of detonators. The single-factor variable method was used to carry out the comparative test in deep hole blasting. The results showed that the particle peak vibration velocity (PPV) was 13.1783 cm/s and 3.4856 cm/s with a drop of 73.55% in comparison with a nonel detonator and digital electronic detonator, which proved that hole-by-hole blasting in the high-precision nonel detonator network was not achieved due to the delay error of detonators. Furthermore, the location distribution map of holes where the same section of detonators might occur was obtained. Finally, the probability of blasting in the same section changes with the number of blast holes was discovered by theoretical analysis, which provided a basis for accurate hole-by-hole blasting.

Résumé :
2003 Background: The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was designed to improve health status in the US primarily through improving access to health insurance. As adoption of Medicaid expansion varied at the state level, this study aims to compare cancer mortality rates over time between states who did (EXP) and did not adopt (NonEXP) Medicaid expansion. Methods: Age-adjusted mortality rates per 100,000 were gathered from the National Center for Health Statistics from 1999-2017 to establish trends. Only deaths due to cancer in patients less than 65 were included. Absolute change in cancer mortality was calculated from 2011-2013 and then from 2015-2017 with 2014 as washout year. Changes within subpopulations (gender, race, ethnicity) were also assessed. Mortality changes between EXP and NonEXP groups were via “difference in differences” analysis. Results: Overall age-adjusted cancer mortality in the US fell from 1999-2017 from 66.9 to 48.8 per 100,000. EXP states had higher population (157 vs 118 million) with less black/African Americans (19.2 vs 21.8 million) and more Hispanics (33.0 vs 21.7 million) than NonEXP states (all examples from 2017). The overall age-adjusted cancer mortality was consistently worse in NonEXP states, cancer mortality fell from 64.7 to 46.0 per 100,000 in EXP states and from 69.0 to 51.9 per 100,000 in NonEXP states from 1999-2017 (both trends p < 0.001, comparison p < 0.001). Comparing the mortality changes in the peri-ACA years (2011-2013 vs 2015-2017) between the 2 cohorts, the difference in differences between EXP and NonEXP states was -1.1 and -0.6 per 100,000 respectively (p = 0.006 EXP, p = 0.14 NonEXP). The estimated overall cancer mortality benefit gained in EXP states after Medicaid expansion (∆∆∆) is -0.5 per 100,000 (p = NS). In EXP states, this translates to an estimated 785 less cancer deaths in 2017. Age-adjusted cancer mortality per 100,000 was worse in NonEXP states for black patients (58.5 EXP vs 63.4 NonEXP in 2017) however there was no differential mortality benefit after ACA expansion when comparing between the peri-ACA years. Of the subpopulations assessed, Hispanics in EXP states had the highest differential cancer mortality benefit at -2.1 per 100,000 (p = 0.07). Conclusions: This is the first study to show a directly measured cancer survival benefit from the ACA on a national scale using a comprehensive database. Hispanic populations appear to have the highest differential cancer mortality benefit after Medicaid expansion. Further study is needed to elucidate why other populations like black patients did not appear to reap the same mortality decrease.

Résumé :
The method to transfer energy by less-contact magnetic force can decrease mechanical energy loss comparing with that by mechanical contact. In this paper, a novel piezoelectric rotary generator was designed based on the theory of the transition from less-contact magnetic force to the mechanical energy. ANSYS software was used to calculate the driving forces for the piezoelectric cantilever beam from the rotary wheel rotate in the different positions. The periodic driving force for the piezoelectric cantilever beam was obtained by the methods of fitting and Fourier transform. Laws of dynamic performance for piezoelectric cantilever beam were obtained by dynamic analysis. The results show that the low-frequency and variable rotational mechanical energy in the natural environment can be harvested by this novel rotary piezoelectric generator.

Résumé :
Although some writers assume that negative attitudes toward cancer and other chronic disease patients are prevalent, systematic data have been scarce. Perceptions of patients and their illnesses were assessed for college students, nurses, medical students, and chiropractic students. Subjects rated cancer, AIDS, diabetes, and heart disease patients, as well as the nonill, on 21 bipolar trait items, selected to measure competence, moral worth, dependence, depression, and morbidity. There were also measures of social distance, cancer anxiety, disease beliefs, and ascribed illness responsibility. With minor exceptions, all subsamples perceived cancer victims less favorably than diabetics, heart patients, and the nonill on competence, dependence, depression, and morbidity. Cancer patients were always seen as even more depressed than AIDS sufferers but were rated just as favorably as well people on moral worth. People with AIDS were generally the most negatively evaluated and most rejected group. Cancer was consistently described as the most painful condition and, next to AIDS, the least understood medically and most deadly. Cancer anxiety was moderately predictive of perceptions of cancer victims, and ratings of illness responsibility were moderately predictive of moral worth ratings for the cancer and AIDS groups. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed.

Using external vascular ultrasound, we measured brachial artery diameter (Diam) at rest, after release of 4 min of limb ischemia, i.e., endothelium-dependent dilation (EDD), and after sublingual nitroglycerin, i.e., non-endothelium-dependent dilation (NonEDD), in 35 healthy men aged 61–83 yr: 12 endurance athletes (A) and 23 controls (C). As anticipated, treadmill exercise maximal oxygen consumption (V˙o 2 max) was significantly higher in A than in C (40.2 ± 6.6 vs. 27.9 ± 3.8 ml ⋅ kg−1 ⋅ min−1; respectively, P < 0.0001). With regard to arterial physiology, A had greater EDD (8.9 ± 4.2 vs. 5.7 ± 3.5%; P = 0.02) and a tendency for higher NonEDD (13.9 ± 6.7 vs. 9.7 ± 4.2%; P = 0.07) compared with C. By multiple linear regression analysis in the combined sample of older men, only baseline Diam (β = −2.0, where β is the regression coefficient; P = 0.005) andV˙o 2 max (β = 0.23; P = 0.003) were independent predictors of EDD; similarly, only Diam (β = −4.0; P = 0.003) andV˙o 2 max (β = 0.27; P = 0.01) predicted NonEDD. Thus endurance-trained older men demonstrate both augmented EDD and NonEDD, consistent with a generalized enhanced vasodilator responsiveness, compared with their sedentary age peers.

Résumé :
The odors and emanations released from the human body can provide important information about the health status of individuals and the presence or absence of diseases. Since these components often emanate from the body surface in very small quantities, a simple sampling and sensitive analytical method is required. In this study, we developed a non-invasive analytical method for the measurement of the body odor component 2-nonenal by headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry by selective ion monitoring. Using a StableFlex PDMS/DVB fiber, 2-nonenal was efficiently extracted and enriched by fiber exposition at 50 °C for 45 min and was separated within 10 min using a DB−1 capillary column. Body odor sample was easily collected by gauze wiping. The limit of detection of 2-nonenal collected in gauze was 22 pg (S/N = 3), and the linearity was obtained in the range of 1–50 ng with a correlation coefficient of 0.991. The method successfully analyzed 2-nonenal in skin emissions and secretions and was applied to the analysis of body odor changes in various lifestyles, including the use of cosmetics, food intake, cigarette smoking, and stress load.

Résumé :
Arista versus tarsus determination is well investigated in Drosophila, yet it remains unresolved whether Antennapedia (ANTP) cell autonomously or noncell autonomously determines tarsus identity and whether Sex combs reduced (SCR) is the HOX protein required for normal tarsus determination. Three observations rule out a cell autonomous role for ANTP in tarsus determination. (i) Clonal ectopic overexpression of ANTP did not repress the expression of the arista determining protein Homothorax (HTH) in early 3rd stadium antennal imaginal discs. (ii) Clonal ectopic expression of ANTP did not transform the arista to a tarsus. (iii) Ectopic overexpression of ANTP, Labial (LAB), Deformed (DFD), SCR, Ultrabithorax (UBX), Abdominal-A (ABD-A), or Abdominal-B (ABD-B), using the dppGAL4 driver, resulted in arista-to-tarsus transformations, and repressed HTH/Extradenticle (EXD) activity noncell autonomously in early 3rd stadium antennal imaginal discs. SCR may not be the HOX protein required for normal tarsus determination, because co-ectopic expression of Proboscipedia (PB) inhibited the arista-to-tarsus transformations induced by ectopic expression of DFD, SCR, ANTP, UBX, ABD-A, and ABD-B. The proposal that SCR is the HOX protein required for normal tarsus determination is dependent on SCR being the sole target of PB suppression, which is not the case. Therefore, the possibility exists that normal tarsus determination is HOX independent.Key words: appendage development, Antennapedia, proboscipedia, sex combs reduced, homothorax.

Résumé :
Schizophrenia, a devastating psychiatric illness with onset in the late teens to early 20s, is thought to involve disrupted brain connectivity. Functional and structural disconnections of cortical networks may underlie various cognitive deficits, including a substantial reduction in the speed of information processing in schizophrenia patients compared with controls. Myelinated white matter supports the speed of electrical signal transmission in the brain. To examine possible neuroanatomical sources of cognitive deficits, we used a comprehensive diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) protocol and characterized the white matter diffusion signals using diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) and permeability–diffusivity imaging (PDI) in patients (n = 74), their nonill siblings (n = 41), and healthy controls (n = 113). Diffusion parameters that showed significant patient–control differences also explained the patient–control differences in processing speed. This association was also found for the nonill siblings of the patients. The association was specific to processing-speed abnormality but not specific to working memory abnormality or psychiatric symptoms. Our findings show that advanced diffusion MRI in white matter may capture microstructural connectivity patterns and mechanisms that govern the association between a core neurocognitive measure—processing speed—and neurobiological deficits in schizophrenia that are detectable with in vivo brain scans. These non-Gaussian diffusion white matter metrics are promising surrogate imaging markers for modeling cognitive deficits and perhaps, guiding treatment development in schizophrenia.

In this paper, we study some properties of nonnil-S-Noetherian rings. More precisely, we investigate nonnil-S-Noetherian rings via the Cohen-type theorem, the flat extension, the faithfully flat extension, the polynomial ring extension, and the power series ring extension.

Résumé :
In order to improve the strength and resistance of ordinary nonel tubes, calcium sulfate whiskers (CSW, treated with silane coupling agent) and maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (PE-g-MAH) are used to control the wall material of the nonel tube that the blending of the low-density polyethylene was enhanced. The effects of mass fraction of CSW or PE-g-MAH on the tensile properties, interfacial structure, melting and crystallization characteristics, and thermal decomposition behavior of the composite system were studied, and the thermal decomposition kinetics were calculated. The results show that, relative to pure LDPE, the strength of LDPE/CSW (85/15) is increased by 7.58%, and the strength of LDPE/CSW/PE-g-MAH (84/15/1) is increased by 7.58%. The addition of CSW or PE-g-MAH has gradually changed the fracture mode of the LDPE matrix. Thermal analysis shows that CSW can reduce the crystallinity of LDPE. The melting and crystallization characteristics of LDPE/CSW/PE-g-MAH composites have little effect, but the thermal decomposition stability is improved. The kinetic analysis showed that the reaction order (n) was around 1, CSW could improve LDPE/CSW thermal decomposition activation energy, and PE-g-MAH increased the thermal decomposition activation energy of LDPE/CSW/PE-g-MAH.

Résumé :
Cancer incidence increases exponentially with age when human telomeres are shorter. Similarly, telomerase reverse transcriptase (tert) mutant zebrafish have premature short telomeres and anticipate cancer incidence to younger ages. However, because short telomeres constitute a road block to cell proliferation, telomere shortening is currently viewed as a tumor suppressor mechanism and should protect from cancer. This conundrum is not fully understood. In our current study, we report that telomere shortening promotes cancer in a noncell autonomous manner. Using zebrafish chimeras, we show increased incidence of invasive melanoma when wild-type (WT) tumors are generated intertmutant zebrafish. Tissues adjacent to melanoma lesions (skin) and distant organs (intestine) intertmutants exhibited higher levels of senescence and inflammation. In addition, we transferred second generation (G2)tertblastula cells into WT to produce embryo chimeras. Cells with very short telomeres induced increased tumor necrosis factor1-α (TNF1-α) expression and senescence in larval tissues in a noncell autonomous manner, creating an inflammatory environment. Considering that inflammation is protumorigenic, we transplanted melanoma-derived cells into G2tertzebrafish embryos and observed that tissue environment with short telomeres leads to increased tumor development. To test if inflammation was necessary for this effect, we treated melanoma transplants with nonsteroid anti-inflammatory drugs and show that higher melanoma dissemination can be averted. Thus, apart from the cell autonomous role of short telomeres in contributing to genome instability, we propose that telomere shortening with age causes systemic chronic inflammation leading to increased tumor incidence.

Résumé :
The thermal degradation of lipid oxidation products with amino acids and reducing sugars is known to be important for the characteristic aroma generation in both meat and meat-like process flavorings. SPME(solid phase microextraction)/GC-MS was used to analyze the volatiles produced from a solution of [13C6]glucose, cysteine, and lipid degradation product- (E)-2-nonenal, heated at 130 °C for 90 min. Analysis of the mass spectra showed that the resulting 2-butyl-thiophene and 5-butyldihydro-2(3H)-furanone were 13C6-labeled and hence stemmed from glucose. Glucose and (E)-2-nonenal were equally important for the formation of 2-pentylfuran, whether cysteine was present in the reaction or not. 2-Furanmethanol, (E)-2-(1-pentenyl)-furan, 2-hexanoylfuran, ethanethiol, 5-methyl-2(5H)-thiophenone, 1-methyl-5-mercaptotetrazole, 4-pentyl-pyridine, 2-pentyl-thiophene, and 2-mercaptopropanoic acid were virtually 13C1-13C4 labeled, suggesting an origin from both glucose and cysteine and/or (E)-2-nonenal carbons. Thus, the relative contribution of aldehyde to the C-skeleton of a particular aroma compound changed substantially when both glucose and cysteine were involved in its formation.
