The onset of COVID-19 across the world has elevated interest in geographic information systems (GIS) for pandemic management. In Germany, however, most spatial analyses remain at the relatively coarse level of counties. In this study, we explored the spatial distribution of COVID-19 hospitalizations in health insurance data of the AOK Nordost health insurance. Additionally, we explored sociodemographic and pre-existing medical conditions associated with hospitalizations for COVID-19. Our results clearly show strong spatial dynamics of COVID-19 hospitalizations. The main risk factors for hospitalization were male sex, being unemployed, foreign citizenship, and living in a nursing home. The main pre-existing diseases associated with hospitalization were certain infectious and parasitic diseases, diseases of the blood and blood-forming organs, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases, diseases of the nervous system, diseases of the circulatory system, diseases of the respiratory system, diseases of the genitourinary and symptoms, and signs and findings not classified elsewhere.

AbstractBuilders of medical informatics applications need controlled medical vocabularies to support their applications and it is to their advantage to use available standards. In order to do so, however, these standards need to address the requirements of their intended users. Overthe past decade, medical informatics researchers have begun to articulate some of these requirements. This paper brings together some of the common themes which have been described, including: vocabulary content, concept orientation, concept permanence, nonsemantic concept identifiers, polyhierarchy, formal definitions, rejection of “not elsewhere classified” terms, multiple granularities, mUltiple consistent views, context representation, graceful evolution, and recognized redundancy. Standards developers are beginning to recognize and address these desiderata and adapt their offerings to meet them.

23 Age-adjusted stroke mortality in the US has declined in recent decades. However, little is known about stroke morbidity. Using the National Hospital Discharge Survey data from 1988 to 1997, we examined the change in stroke hospitalization and case-fatality in the US. During the 10 years, age-adjusted stroke hospitalization rate increased 22% (from 381 to 463/100,000, p=0.048). By regions, stroke hospitalization rates overall were 641, 600, 562 and 438 for the South, Midwest, Northeast, and West respectively (p<0.05), and were increased in all regions during the 10 years. Overall, 58% of stroke hospitalizations were due to ischemic stroke, 13% due to hemorrhagic stroke, and 29% were classified as other stroke. The hospitalization rates were 74.8 and 332.4 per 100,000 respectively for hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes and the increase rate in 10 years were 13.5% (p=0.214) and 31.5% (p=0.044) respectively. During 10 years, stroke patients with diabetes, hypertension and congestive heart failure increased 17.4% (p=0.17), 34% (p=0.05), and 31% (p=0.091) respectively. The average length of hospital stay reduced from 11.1 to 6.2 days (decrease of 44.1%), with an average annual percentage decrease of 6.1% (p=0.012). Although the total number of patients hospitalized for stroke increased during this period, the total person-days in hospital decreased 22% (p=006). In-hospital death among stroke decreased steadily from 12.7% to 7.6% (decrease of 40%, p=0.04). In-hospital case-fatality was estimated by stratifying patients on age, gender, region, type of stroke, and other co-morbidity. Case-fatality rate was substantially higher among patients with hemorrhagic than ischemic stroke (28.0% vs 5.8%, p<0.01); among patients with congestive heart failure than those without (17.9% vs 8.5%). In addition, patients of old age (≥75 years), men, those living in the Northeast had higher case-fatality rates than those younger, women and living in elsewhere. In conclusion, the declining of age-adjusted stroke mortality in the US has not been found to be related to the decrease in incidence. However, the observed reduction in hospital case-fatality might contribute to the decline of stroke mortality.

The present research sought to identify and determine the psychological consequences of stress in women through a systematic review. According to data extracted from the Portal Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal del Perú in 2020, during the COVID-19 confinement there is an increase in Mixed Anxiety and Depression Disorder with 29.31%, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder 4.47%, adjustment disorder with 14.47%, stress-related problems, not classified elsewhere with 15.57%. In Peru: the psychological consequences correspond to the fact that pregnant women have depression in 29.31%, post-traumatic stress disorder in 4.47%, adjustment disorder in 14.47%, stress-related problems, and those not classified elsewhere in 15.57%. It is concluded that there was an increase in the psychological consequences of stress in pregnant women due to social isolation, since pregnant women were deprived of the activities they carried out, even more so due to the emotional and physical changes that occur during their stage.

This thesis is concerned with the information needs of informal carers, or, as they are now increasingly referred to, carers Within this thesis, the appellation carer is defined in terms chosen by carers themselves. In their words, • A carer is someone whose life is restricted by the need to assist another person to live independently at home. Information is similarly defined by reference to the perspective of the carers, whose information needs form the topic of this research. For the purposes of this thesis, therefore, information is defined as follows • information is all knowledge, ideas, facts and data which are communicated in any format either formally or informally, and which, for whatever reason, are needful for carers to know. Information has been identified as a key requirement by most of the surveys undertaken of carers since 1988. Most surveys of carers and their needs have noted the absence or deficiency of this critical resource; yet relevant information is prolific, and accessible through a multiplicity of mechanisms and formats. This thesis set out to answer four important questions: • Why, when information appears to be so widely accessible, do carers continue to assert that lack of information remains one of their key problems? • What is the role of workers and other professionals in information provision to carers? • What changes to current information provision and dissemination would remove the obstacles to carers obtaining the information they need? • Is there a role for the public library service in either creating or overseeing the provision of an information strategy for carers? These questions were examined within a Leicester-based study of a group of carers of older people, and carers who were themselves older people, during the period 1994-1996. The study followed a qualitative methodology and used a number of methods. The chief of these entailed the researcher, in her professional role as Community Care Librarian, acting as a critical friend, that is one, who through understanding the context of the presenting situation, is able to offer a helpful critique, a valued judgement and an honest response. This approach elicited a wealth of qualitative data through telephone contact with carers on a regular and frequent basis during a period of fifteen months. The study also included a sample of workers and potential information providers, already having professional responsibilities in the households of the participating carers and who were involved through a series of focused semi-structured interviews. The workers represented a range of health, social services and voluntary sector teams and organisations. The data obtained from this study was particularly rich and subtle, providing unexpected insights into considerably more than information provision, as well as confirmation of certain conjectured findings. For example, the results indicate that the carers in the study were proactive information seekers, rather than passive recipients of information despite having poor formal and informal information networks. As a result, they were almost entirely dependent upon the professional workers as sources of information. Because of restrictive multi-disciplinary and inter-agency working and a lack of systematic and effective information support, workers were unable to fulfill all the carers' expectations in this regard. The study would indicate a crucial role for an agency able to devise an effective information strategy, suitable to meet not only the needs of carers, but also of others similarly disadvantaged in information provision. Such an agency could itself act as an holistic information provider, or else take responsibility for overseeing such a service. In the perception of the study participants the public library service, in theory uniquely placed to fulfill such a role, held a low profile as an information provider. If such an opinion were to be confirmed amongst the general population, it would seem that this role could not automatically be assigned to public libraries. However, the availability of insufficient evidence to either corroborate or refute such an opinion resulted in this particular research question remaining unanswered.

There is an on-going debate among health professionals, policy-makers and politicians, as to the optimal way of delivering sexual health services to young people. There is as yet, no consensus on their best patterns of organisation or configuration. This study uses qualitative and quantitative research methods, to explore both the views of young people accessing sexual health services, expressed through in-depth interview, and variations in client satisfaction with different characteristics of service delivery, expressed through completion of a questionnaire. The key research questions are: How does young people’s satisfaction with sexual health services vary with the age-dedication of the service; that is, whether it serves young people only, or all ages? How does young people’s satisfaction with sexual health services vary with the integration of the service; that is, whether family planning and genito-urinary services are offered separately, or together? How does young people’s satisfaction with sexual health services vary with the location of the service; that is, in community or hospital based services? In the qualitative component, in-depth interviews were conducted with 25 young people recruited from a purposively selected sample of young people’s services. In the survey, a total sample of 1166 was achieved. Of these, 36% were attending an integrated contraceptive and STI service and 64% were attending a more traditional ‘separate’ service. 48% attended a service dedicated to young people and 52% an all-age service. 50% attended a hospital-based service and 50% a service located in the community. Of the total sample, 22% were male and 78% female. The analysis has been done not on a comparison of services in their entirety, but on a comparison of key features of their organisation, that is, whether they are provided separately as contraceptive and STI sessions or services, or whether these aspects of sexual health provision are integrated in sessions or services (integration); on whether they are run exclusively for young people or for all ages (dedication); and on whether they are located in the community or in a hospital setting (location). Recommendations are made for future service development and delivery and implications for policy are discussed.

The nursing profession is pivotal to the delivery of healthcare services within the UK National Health Service (NHS). However, studies have shown that an increasing number of older nurses are leaving the NHS as a result of the physical and cognitive demands of the nursing job. In particular, a growing body of literature suggests that ward nurses are at risk of sustaining work-related injuries due to the demands of their job. Responding to these challenges, the aim of this PhD research project was to develop a framework to support NHS ward nurses in the ward environment, by exploring how the architectural design features of NHS hospital wards could be improved to create a better fit between ward nurses and their work environment, by applying the Person-Environment Fit theory. The Nursing Tasks and Environmental Assessment Framework (NTEA Framework) consists of two components. The Nursing Tasks Demand Matrix (NTDM), which provides a nuanced understanding of nursing tasks on wards and the Ward Environment Assessment Tool (WEAT), which is used to conduct Post-Occupancy Evaluation of hospital wards. The two together forms the NTEA Framework, which offers a holistic approach to improving nurses’ quality of life in the workplace. The NTEA Framework may be used by facilities managers, human resource managers, occupational health advisors, ward managers and the NHS management, for refurbishments decisions, in drafting nurses’ job descriptions, to perform occupation health screening and for the assessment of the adequacy of NHS healthcare estates for ward nurses. The NTEA Framework is also a benchmarking information tool that could inform design of healthcare facilities.

This thesis is a story of how I came to construct and illuminate a reflexive narrative as a journey of self-inquiry and transformation towards personal realisation. It shares a view of reflection as lived in being and becoming a reflective nurse educator in higher education. My narrative draws upon, autoethnography, critical social theory and hermeneutic perspectives. Johns (2010) six dialogical movements have been used to give structure to my narrative. Nineteen reflections generate the reflexive narrative in a hermeneutic spiral, as each text informs the other along the journey. Insights become clearer through guidance, dialogue, and engagement with the literature. Early reflections show anxiety, emotional distress and entanglement as I tried to solve student problems. Maternalism influenced my approach to being with distressed and struggling students. Gradually these feelings give way to being available, becoming student kind as an enabling relationship with students. Becoming student kind is framed through my adaptation of the Being Available Template (Johns 2013). It is realised through; listening, presence, caring, empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence. Poise, a self-management practice ensures that personal concerns and tensions do not hinder my relationships with students. Mindfulness expressed as spirituality sustains this process. This path to becoming student kind creates a learning space for student growth and development. In so doing, students are enabled to enter into a nurse patient relationship through being available. I express my empowerment through a dialogical voice, transforming my practice with individual students, in the classroom and beyond. Understanding the tensions within the complexity of university culture influencing nurse education, informs collaboration with colleagues towards a shared vision of nurse education. I turn to reflect on a journey of constructing a reflexive narrative. Five stepping stones for dialogue in advancing guided reflection as a foundation for nurse education are offered. My inquiry weaves a story of reflection as testimony to a fusion of practice and theory. I reveal practice wisdom, informing my day to day work in being available becoming student kind in relationships with students. I explore the contribution to knowledge, my practice and future research, considering the strengths and challenges therein.

Poor workplace relations are an issue of concern in many workplaces and this phenomenon is not restricted to the nursing profession. The issue of workplace violence in nursing is well documented and there are an increasing number of studies which have investigated the notion of horizontal violence amongst graduate nurses. The impact that poor workplace relations has on the development of a professional identity by nursing students in the off-campus clinical setting is significant in light of the current global shortage of nurses.
There is a dearth of knowledge in understanding how Australian undergraduate nursing students experience the off-campus clinical setting and subsequently develop a professional identity as a nurse. Therefore the aim of this study was to discover and describe the phenomena in order to develop a substantive theory that explains the experiences of the undergraduate nursing students in a regional setting.
Constructivist grounded theory methods were utilised in the conduct of the study. A sample of 29 participants was recruited permitting the formulation of a substantive theory regarding the development of a professional identity in nursing students. This substantive theory contributes knowledge relevant to the undergraduate nursing students, nurse educators, nursing workforce planners, and the tertiary educational institutions offering nursing. This is achieved through discovering, describing and explaining the phenomenon of ‘anxiety’ which the nursing students experience as a result of the interrelationship and interactions of tradition bearing, staff and student performance. These interactions intersect to form expectations of where the student fits within the hierarchy of the facility and the nursing profession in general. An understanding of the issues associated with tradition bearing, staff performance, and student performance and the impact that the interaction of these conditions has upon the student’s developing professional identity as a nurse is necessary to allow for the implementation of corrective strategies.

"In 1982, when questioned about his intellectual ability, French philosopher Michel Foucault replied: I don’t feel it is necessary to know exactly what I am. The main interest in life and work is to become someone else you were not in the beginning. If you knew when you began a book, what you would say in the end, do you think you would have the courage to write it? (Martin, Gutman & Hutton, 1988, p. 9) This thesis presents a post-structuralist gaze at the politics of difference in nursing from the perspectives of Foucault and Jacques Derrida, with the aim of presenting a new text that challenges the maintenance of the status quo of nursing. The thesis will use nursing as a discipline to examine subjectivity of the self through the conceptual lens of Foucault and Derrida and those factors that influence the politics of difference in nursing, such as ‘othering’, neoliberalism, managerialism and globalisation. Until nursing moves beyond binary thinking and considers a new politics of difference, the generation of new knowledge will endorse the philosophical thinking of the Enlightenment project and fail to progress nursing beyond this and into the post-structuralist ethos. Moreover: This post-structuralist approach to the politics of knowledge challenges the individual who is rational and coherent and has a rational and coherent story about themselves and society (Horton, 2013, p. 24)."<p></p>

Other research questions were related to testing relationships between emotional work, emotional intelligence, coping and the outcome variables of job satisfaction and health and well-being. </p>

Nursing, like many other professions, is impacted negatively by the problem of adversity. It is widely documented that nurses experience stress and anxiety as a result of bullying, difficult working conditions and the accumulation of multiple stressors that deplete job satisfaction. Adversity amongst nursing students has not been widely explored, and it was hypothesised that with greater understanding of the unique experience of these students, that solutions could be generated that could enrich the curriculum. A study was designed to elicit stories of adversity from nursing students in order to understand what they anticipated might happen in the workplace and, uncover what they actually experienced. The study was undertaken at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), Australia, in an undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing Science 3-year programme. Critical social theory methodology, as developed by Antonio Gramsci, was chosen to illuminate how inequalities that nursing students experience are not always perpetuated consciously, but can be a failure to notice that injustice is taking place. When taking a critical social stance, educational solutions that address adversity can focus on awareness raising on the impact of culture and cultural norms on interpersonal and interprofessional relationships. By examining how discursive practices can be perpetuated, and resisted, the study sought to identify possibilities for change to build a more resilient workforce. Data were collected in three stages: individual interview groups (stage 1 and 2) included 7 nursing students from years 1-3 of the programme. Recruitment of nursing student interviewees was completed through email on the university intranet site. The focus group interview (stage 3) was composed of 5 academic staff. These participants were the researcher’s peers as they were involved in teaching into the undergraduate nursing programme at USC. Convenience sampling was used to recruit these academics for their role as peer educators.<p></p>

Several disorders have been classified together in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (4th ed.; DSM-IV) as impulse control disorders not elsewhere classified. These impulse control disorders have been grouped together based on perceived similarities in clinical presentation and hypothesized similarities in pathophysiologies. The question exists whether these disorders belong together or whether they should be categorized elsewhere. Examination of the family of impulse control disorders generates questions regarding the distinct nature of each disorder: whether each is unique or whether they represent variations of each other or other psychiatric disorders. Neurobiology may cut across disorders, and identifying important intermediary phenotypes will be important in understanding impulse control disorders and related entities. The distress of patients with impulse control disorders highlights the importance of examining these disorders. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) shares features and often co-occurs with other anxiety disorders, as well as with other psychiatric conditions classified elsewhere in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-IV), the so-called “OCD spectrum disorders.” Neurobiologically, it is unclear how all these disorders relate to one another. The picture is further complicated by the clinical heterogeneity of OCD. This chapter will review the literature on the common and distinct neural correlates of OCD vis-à-vis other anxiety and “OCD spectrum” disorders. Furthermore, the question of whether partially distinct neural systems subserve the different symptom dimensions of OCD will be examined. Particular attention will be paid to hoarding, which is emerging as a distinct entity from OCD. Finally, new insights from cognitive and affective neuroscience will be reviewed before concluding with a summary and recommendations for future research.

A perceived inadequacy in existing post-resurrection narratives seems to have inspired the second-century author of the Epistula Apostolorum to compose a comprehensive post-resurrection dialogue. In this—after securing with some difficulty their acceptance that he is truly alive—Jesus answers his disciples’ wide-ranging questions mainly about issues of eschatology and mission. Also present in this text are retrospective summaries of his descent from the heavenly world and his earthly career. While this important though neglected text may usefully be classified with works in a similar format, from Nag Hammadi and elsewhere, its primary affinities are with the traditions of Jesus’ earthly career reflected in Matthew, Luke, and especially John. In particular, the Johannine account of Easter Day and its aftermath provides the author not so much with a normative exemplar as with a source that he exploits freely and critically to develop his proto-orthodox theological agenda.

AbstractA fall is the mechanism of injury for most fragility fractures. Falls are preventable and should not be viewed as an inevitable consequence of the ageing process. Falls and fragility fractures frequently result in both short- and long-term disability and can be life-changing with considerable deterioration in health-related quality of life, increased dependency and social isolation.The causes of falls are individual and multifactorial. Risk factors interact dynamically and can be broadly classified into three main categories: demographic, intrinsic and extrinsic. Frailty, sarcopenia, falls and fragility fractures are linked and should be identified and receive proper intervention.Evidence-based processes and tools for interdisciplinary screening, assessment and management of risk of falling are available and can guide healthcare professionals. Involving patients and their families is essential in developing and implementing a person-centred fall prevention care plan. Nurses are central to fall prevention strategies in both hospital and community settings, working collaboratively with the entire interdisciplinary team, but most often with physiotherapists.The aim of this chapter is to explore the role of the practitioner working in acute hospital units, ambulatory care/outpatient clinics and community/home care settings and with people transitioning from hospital to home in preventing further falls in older people who have sustained a fragility fracture.

AbstractHaematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) generally includes preparative or conditioning regimens containing combinations of chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy and sometimes immunotherapy. These regimens, as well as other treatments before and after HSCT such as immunosuppressive drugs to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) (see Chap. 11), may affect the patient’s organs and tissues and cause both early and long-term complications. In the evolving field of stem cell therapies, some complications that traditionally have been regarded as early complications are now, due to changes in preparative regimens and choice of stem cell source, sometimes seen later in the post-transplant outpatient setting. The complications covered in this chapter generally occur within 100 days post-HSCT and are thus classified as early complications. Two of the most common early complications are oral complications/mucositis and sepsis. Some other relatively rare complications are also covered here: haemorrhagic cystitis (HC), endothelial damage syndromes including engraftment syndrome (ES), idiopathic pneumonia syndrome (IPS), diffuse alveolar haemorrhage (DAH), thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) and sinusoidal obstruction syndrome/veno-occlusive disease (SOS/VOD). For all complications, recommendations for prevention and principles for nursing care are presented since careful nursing monitoring and prompt intervention and care may have an impact on patients’ morbidity and mortality.

This chapter opens an examination of the Book of Mormon’s most sustained investigation into Isaiah’s relevance and meaning, that of the nation-founding figure of Nephi. Three passages in particular from the Book of Isaiah appear with regular frequency in Nephi’s writings. Nephi’s first book concludes with reflections on the first of these, Isaiah’s prophecy about the abjection of gentile royalty before Israelites restored to their lands. Nephi attaches the prophecy’s meaning to distinct eras in a way similar to but much more systematic than the Isaian interpretation of the resurrected Christ at the Book of Mormon’s narrative climax. Nephi’s uses of Isaiah thus confirm the millenarian emphasis elsewhere in the Book of Mormon but differ from familiar nineteenth-century ventures like that of Ethan Smith.

This study abstracted nursing problems documented in cancer patients' nursing care plans to analyze (1) which nursing problems were documented and (2) the degree of congruence between the abstracted problems and NANDA nursing diagnoses. 236 unique nursing problems were identified and could be mapped to 32 NANDA nursing diagnoses. However, only 4.3% had a precise match with NANDA, Thirty-eight percent were classified as similar and the rest were broader, narrower or no match. Thus NANDA only partially covered problems written by nurses in the care plans for this group of patients.

Delamination between thin films is classified into two types: opening mode and sliding mode. Corresponding to each mode, there is the interface strength between thin films. This paper aims to evaluate interface strength between the sub-micron thin films for opening mode and sliding mode, respectively. We already developed the evaluation method of interface fracture toughness for opening mode on the basis of fracture mechanics concept elsewhere. Moreover, the evaluation method of sliding mode is proposed and the interface strength between thin films for an advanced LSI is evaluated as the fracture toughness by using both methods. In both modes, the stress singularity appears in the vicinity of the edge of interface and governs the delamination. The criterion of crack initiation for each mode is evaluated as the interface toughness. The fracture toughness at the edge of interface in sliding mode is lower than that in opening mode.

This paper introduces a strategy to accomplish pick-and-place operations for a six-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) robotic arm attached to a wheeled mobile robot. This research work is part of a bigger project in developing a robotic-assisted nursing to be used in medical settings. The significance of this project relies on the increasing demand for elderly and disabled skilled care assistance which nowadays has become insufficient. Several methods were implemented to make a 6-DOF manipulator capable of performing pick-and-place operations. This paper presents an approach for solving the inverse kinematics problem and planning collision-free paths. An Iterative Inverse Kinematics method (IIK) was introduced to find multiple configurations for the manipulator along a given path. The IIK method takes advantage of a specific geometric characteristic of the manipulator, in which several joints share a common plane. Ten different scenarios with different number and pattern of obstacles were used to verify the efficiency of a path planning algorithm introduced here. Other methods, also implemented in the current project, which describe the manipulator and its capabilities, are presented elsewhere [1]. Overall results confirmed the efficiency of the implemented methods for performing pick-and-place operations for a 6-DOF manipulator.

This work presents a comparative analysis of two approaches to the classification of human activities. These approaches offer the potential for the automation of caregivers’ documentation of activities performed by patients, which could facilitate improvements in the treatment of diseases.Both approaches are based on integrating smartwatch technology with a neural network, enabling the real-time classification of activities. The integration of sensor technology into a patient's daily life via a smartwatch can facilitate the treatment of their disease and provide information about disease progression and disease-related changes. The smartwatch offers the ability to sample accelerometer, gyroscope, gravity, and position data at a frequency of 20 hertz (Hz), which is then transmitted to a recurrent neural network called Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) for real-time classification.The implemented real-time classification provides immediate and precise indications regarding the temporal occurrence and probability of performing one of the defined activities. The primary distinction between the two classification methodologies pertains to the implementation of the LSTM network. One approach involves the operation of the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network on a server, while the other employs direct operation on the smartwatch. This distinction yields notable contrasts in performance and functionality.The findings indicate that the server-based smartwatch model exhibits superior classification accuracy and more comprehensive functionalities, whereas the model implemented on the smartwatch demonstrates enhanced flexibility.Based on data obtained from smartwatch sensors, activities that are very similar can be classified flexibly, irrespective of location and in real-time. The insights gained about patients' motor skills provide the potential for nursing staff to be supported in the care of their patients with neurological diseases.

With dwindling water supplies and the impacts of climate change, many cities are turning to water sources previously considered unusable. One such source for inland cities is brackish groundwater. With prolonged drought throughout Texas, cities such as El Paso, Lubbock, and San Antonio are desalinating brackish groundwater to supplement existing water sources. Similar projects are under consideration elsewhere in Texas. While brackish groundwater contains fewer total dissolved solids than seawater, desalination of brackish groundwater is still an energy-intensive process. Brackish water desalination using reverse osmosis, the most common desalination membrane treatment process, consumes 20 to 40 times more energy than traditional surface water treatment using local water sources. This additional energy consumption leads to increased carbon emissions when using fossil fuel-generated electricity. As a result of concern over greenhouse gas emissions from additional energy consumption, some desalination plants are powered by wind-generated electricity. West Texas is a prime area for desalination of brackish groundwater using wind power, since both wind and brackish groundwater resources are abundant in the area. Most of the Texas Panhandle and Plains region has wind resource potential classified as Class 3 or higher. Additionally, brackish groundwater is found at depths less than 150 m in most of west Texas. This combination of wind and brackish groundwater resources presents opportunities for the production of alternative drinking water supplies without severe carbon emissions. Additionally, since membrane treatment is not required to operate continuously, desalination matches well with variable wind power. Implementing a brackish groundwater desalination project using wind-generated electricity requires economic feasibility, in addition to the geographic availability of the two resources. Using capital and operating cost data for wind turbines and desalination membranes, we conducted a thermoeconomic analysis for three parameters: 1) transmission and transport, 2) geographic proximity, and 3) aquifer volume. Our first parameter analyzes the cost effectiveness of tradeoffs between building infrastructure to transmit wind-generated electricity to the desalination facility versus pipelines to transport brackish groundwater to the wind turbines. Secondly, we estimate the maximum distance between the wind turbines and brackish groundwater at which desalination using wind power remains economically feasible. Finally, we estimate the minimum available brackish aquifer volume necessary to make such a project profitable. Our analysis illustrates a potential drinking water option for Texas (and other parts of the world with similar conditions) using renewable energy to treat previously unusable water. Harnessing these two resources in an economically efficient manner may help reduce future strain on the energy-water nexus.

The 5 Russian Arctic Seas have common features, but differ significantly from each other in the sea ice regime and navigation specifics. Navigation in the Arctic is a big challenge, especially during the winter season. However, it is necessary, due to limited natural resources elsewhere on Earth that may be easier for exploitation. Therefore sea ice is an important issue for future development. We foresee that the Arctic may become ice free in summer as a result of global warming and even light yachts will be able to pass through the Eastern Passage. There have been several such examples in the last years. But sea ice is an inherent feature of Arctic Seas in winter, it is permanently immanent for the Central Arctic Basin. That is why it is important to get appropriate knowledge about sea ice properties and operations in ice conditions. Four seas, the Kara, Laptev, East Siberian, and Chukchi have been examined in the book “Russian Arctic Seas. Navigation Condition and Accidents”, Marchenko, 2012 [1]. The book is devoted to the eastern sector of the Arctic, with a description of the seas and accidents caused by heavy ice conditions. The traditional physical-geographical characteristics, information about the navigation conditions and the main sea routes and reports on accidents that occurred in the 20th century have reviewed. An additional investigation has been performed for more recent accidents and for the Barents Sea. Considerable attention has been paid to problems associated with sea ice caused by the present development of the Arctic. Sea ice can significantly affect shipping, drilling, and the construction and operation of platforms and handling terminals. Sea ice is present in the main part of the east Arctic Sea most of the year. The Barents Sea, which is strongly influenced and warmed by the North Atlantic Current, has a natural environment that is dramatically different from those of the other Arctic seas. The main difficulties with the Barents Sea are produced by icing and storms and in the north icebergs. The ice jet is the most dangerous phenomenon in the main straits along the Northern Sea Route and in Chukchi Seas. The accidents in the Arctic Sea have been classified, described and connected with weather and ice conditions. Behaviour of the crew is taken into consideration. The following types of the ice-induced accidents are distinguished: forced drift, forced overwintering, shipwreck, and serious damage to the hull in which the crew, sometimes with the help of other crews, could still save the ship. The main reasons for shipwrecks and damages are hits of ice floes (often in rather calm ice conditions), ice nipping (compression) and drift. Such investigation is important for safety in the Arctic.

In this paper, we compare the prediction accuracy of a deep learning model and three classification algorithms on very similar motions in the field of dementia diagnostics.The basic aim is to gain insights into the retrieval, provision and classification of interaction and health data in the course of the disease of dementia patients. This work shows how the smartwatch "Apple Watch Series 7" can be used to record interaction data from dementia patients and recognise corresponding movement sequences.A data transfer platform was developed that enables communication with a watchOS application on the smartwatch via a Node.js WebSocket. This data transfer platform can be used to control smartwatches and retrieve data from sensors in different frequencies (1 to 100 Hz) in real time. The sensor technology used includes accelerometers, position sensors, gyroscopes, magnetometers and heart rate monitors.In this work, the main focus is on the recognition of motion sequences. For this purpose, two different approaches of supervised learning are compared: recurrent neural network versus classification algorithms. The recurrent neural network is a special form of neural network in which neurons of the same layer or different layers are fed back. Through these feedbacks, temporally coded information can be extracted from data. Typical areas of application are handwriting recognition, translations or speech recognition. A recurrent neural network processes data with a memory called Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). LSTMs represent the state of the art in human activity recognition and are ideal for analysing sequential streams of sensor data. An LSTM is a memory-based, powerful model that can dynamically capture and analyse contextual information whose timing is relevant.This approach of recognising motion sequences is contrasted with the classification algorithms Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine and Decision Tree. The classification takes place under consideration of features of the respective class. An algorithm tries to work out a dividing line between combinations of features of data and to group them.Records of the activities of dementia patients by the nursing staff from two dementia care communities are available. Consultation with various care teams who work with dementia patients on a daily basis revealed that many patients wear smartwatches. Such watches keep the adjustment effort for sensor positioning low.The records of the activities of dementia patients serve as a template in this work; the movement patterns of the activities eating, drinking and writing are classified. These activities are very similar in their movement patterns, which makes classification challenging.The contribution of this work is the comparison of two possibilities for the recognition of similar movements of patients by means of smartwatches with regard to their correctness. We evaluate our prototype in a test series with five test subjects. In doing so, we demonstrate the accuracy of the memory-based classification network and classification in interaction with the latest wearable sensor technologies and discuss future directions and possibilities in the wearable IoT field of dementia

With the development of science and technology, the distance between people in space is getting smaller and smaller, and economic globalization has been a historical inevitability. At the time of accelerating globalization, the film and television industry, as a part of the economy, cannot escape the impact of globalization. Moreover, compared with other industries, film and television works often carry more cultural connotations. How should filmmakers cope with the cultural differences in storytelling, create cross-cultural works, and get the same or different word-of-mouth feedback from different cultural groups? In the current multi-cultural context, Wong Kar-wai can be said to be one of the representative figures. In his films, From "Carmen", "Ashes of Time" and "Days of Being Wild" to "Chungking Express", "In the Mood for Love" and "The Grandmaster", Wong Kar-wai has been widely understood and accepted in different cultural and social contexts. This article start with online comments and study the elements of cross-cultural film creation in the context of globalization according to data mining technology. Research methods and processes: Firstly, data acquisition and pre-processing are carried out. The data source of online comments needs to be determined before crawling the review data. For the research objects selected in this study, the relevant sections of online movie rating websites, online movie platforms and social attribute platforms with large audiences were chosen as data source. For example, metascore has a weighted average of many movie reviews from well-known critics, which is highly reliable. Then, the key step in text mining is word segmentation. It's the process of breaking a sentence into several words. Accurate word segmentation can improve the efficiency and accuracy of subsequent text mining. After the word cloud is established, attribute features of the comments are extracted and classified, and the factors that highly affect the acceptance and empathy of Wong Kar-wai's film works in the cross-cultural context are summarized. Finally, combined with the study of his film scenes and narrative structure, the research focuses on the following factors:1.Theme selection: Explore universal themes, such as love, loneliness, loss and dreams. These themes are cross-cultural, and people face similar issues and emotions across cultures.2.Narrative structure: Such as non-linear narrative structure, which not only increases the complexity of the film, but also provides the audience with space to think and interpret, so that audiences from different cultural backgrounds can interpret the film in different ways.3.How emotions are expressed: Wong Kar-wai's films emphasize the emotions and inner world of characters, which is a universal emotional experience that can touch people's emotions across cultural boundaries.4.Character complexity: Complex and multi-dimensional characters with unique personalities, desires and inner conflicts enable the audience to immerse themselves in understanding the inner journey of these characters, regardless of their cultural background.5.The beauty of cultural elements: Different cultural elements, such as the backgrounds and traditions of China Mainland, Hong Kong, or elsewhere. Although these elements sometimes have a specific impact on the story, they are usually presented in an aesthetic and emotional way that allows the audience to enjoy the film without knowing the cultural details.6.Aesthetic of sight and sound: Films have a distinctive vision and sound style. Create memorable movie atmospheres. This visual and aural allure can transcend the language barrier and touch the hearts of the audience.In a word, the reason why Wong Kar-wai's films can be accepted and understood by people in cross-cultural contexts will be explored in a more specific way along the above directions, and the methods of film creation will be explored under the background of multi-context globalization.

The author's electronic training course ""Psychosomatosis"" is compiled in accordance with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education in the specialty 31.08.22 Psychotherapy (level of training of highly qualified personnel), approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated August 25, 2014 No. 1064 and in the specialty 31.08.20 Psychiatry (level of training of highly qualified personnel), approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated August 25, 2014 No. 1062. The purpose of studying the course is to form the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a specialist to work in the field of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of psychosomatic disorders. Course objectives: · familiarization of students with the theoretical and clinical-psychological foundations necessary for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychosomatoses (F54 Psychological and behavioral factors associated with disorders or diseases classified elsewhere in ICD-10); · training students in the use and analysis of information on the biopsychosocial approach; · training students in the basics of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of psychosomatoses; · familiarization with the concepts of psychosomatic medicine, psychological and behavioral factors associated with physical disorders or diseases. The course duration is 36 hours. The course consists of 6 didactic units.
