Résumé :
The influence of different thickness combinations was investigated on the strength of the lap joint of dissimilar steels. In this study, lap joints of dissimilar steels were welded by laser welding. The tensile shear test was conducted for the lap joints. Rotational deformation process around the weld bead of the lap joint was observed by a digital video camera during the test. Motion analysis from the video of the tensile shear test indicated that the rotation angle around the weld bead was reduced by overlapping higher strength grade steel. Three-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element analysis was performed for the tensile shear test of the lap joint. The numerically calculated deformation behavior of the lap joint subjected to tensile shear loading showed reasonable agreement with the experimental record. It was found that the rotation angle was reduced and tensile shear strength of the lap joint increase by overlapping higher strength grade steel sheet.

Résumé :
Causal knowledge is vital for effective reasoning in science, as causal relations, unlike correlations, allow one to reason about the outcomes of interventions. Algorithms that can discover causal relations from observational data are based on the assumption that all variables have been jointly measured in a single dataset. In many cases this assumption fails. Previous approaches to overcoming this shortcoming devised algorithms that returned all joint causal structures consistent with the conditional independence information contained in each individual dataset. But, as conditional independence tests only determine causal structure up to Markov equivalence, the number of consistent joint structures returned by these approaches can be quite large. The last decade has seen the development of elegant algorithms for discovering causal relations beyond conditional independence, which can distinguish among Markov equivalent structures. In this work we adapt and extend these so-called bivariate causal discovery algorithms to the problem of learning consistent causal structures from multiple datasets with overlapping variables belonging to the same generating process, providing a sound and complete algorithm that outperforms previous approaches on synthetic and real data.

Résumé :
There have been a large number of research programs dedicated to the investigation of stress concentration factor and its parametric design formulae for a variety of uniplanar and multiplanar tubular joints. However, for the multiplanar overlapped tubular joints, the related reports are very limited due to the fact that the combining effect between multiplanarity and brace overlapping is quite complex. In this paper, a novel bracket-stiffened two-planar overlapped tubular KT-joint is proposed by adding two brackets between the upper diagonal and horizontal braces to alleviate the stress concentration at the brace-to-chord intersection area. As compared with the original KT-joint and KT-joint of larger brace gap, stress concentration reduction and fatigue strength enhancement at the most critical point of the proposed KT-joint are significant under both axial and in-plane bending (IPB) loads. The superiority of the proposed KT-joint is further tested with a simplified fatigue life assessment of offshore jack-up in field transit condition, when the KT-joint corresponding to the upper guide level is most critical and fatigue-sensitive. The obtained results with conservative assumptions may serve as guides or references in civil and offshore engineering practices.

Résumé :
The investigation on friction stir lap welding (FSLW) of dissimilar Cu and Ti is reported in this research, aiming to achieve a reliable solid-state joining and effectively control the intermetellic (IMC) formation at the lapping Cu/Ti dissimilar welded interfaces. Following the previous process optimization of the FSLW tool rotation speed and downward plunge value of the tool pin into the lower Ti sheet, the tool travel speed was further tailored for a defect-free joint. No significant Ti-Cu IMC was founded in the generated joints. After the analyses of tensile properties of the FSLW joints, the so-called mechanical locking effect of the Cu/Ti alternate band structure was further elucidated. The composite-like structure played a so-called mechanical locking effect on the Cu/Ti lap joints. The fracture resistant strength of the joint reached 95% of that of the used parent copper.

Résumé :
Improvement of joint quality has always being a call for concern in an assembled component due to numerous application of such components in immense industrial sectors such as aerospace and automotive industries, electrical/electronic industries etc. With this in mind quite a vast research had been carried out and still on going to enhance the characteristics of various parts that makes up an assemble and the complete assemble itself. Part of the research carried out fixated on adhesive bonded joint of different geometrical designs such as L-shape, single-lap, double-lap, tubular, T-shaped, stepped and scarf joints etc. Focusing on single –lap joint due to the simplicity of the design geometry and their ease of fabrication, various forms of arrangement have been researched on. But owing to its untimely failure, caused by high strength concentration in the overlapping areas and some other parts that are delicate to peel damage various forms of design geometry have been adopted ranging from tapering, stepping and wavy lapping of overlapping layers in order to reduce or mitigate the stress concentration for an improved load bearing ability. Due to a lot of challenges being faced with difficulty in fabrication, this study focused on double layer single-lap joint. Its harmonic response when subjected to external dynamic loading was investigated with the use of Ansys finite element analysis. The numerical analysis was carried out on various forms of adhesive-adherends arrangement, and from the harmonic response obtained it showed that the double layer single-lap joint have improved load bearing capacity as compared with other geometrical designs.

Résumé :
This work aims at investigating the influence of pre-set clamping pressure on the joint formation and mechanical strength of overlapping direct-friction-riveted joints. A pneumatic fixture device was developed for this work, with clamping pressure varying from 0.2 MPa to 0.6 MPa. A case study on overlapping joints using Ti6Al4V rivets and woven carbon fiber-reinforced polyether-ether-ketone (CF-PEEK) parts were produced. Digital image correlation and microscopy revealed the expected compressive behavior of the clamping system and the continuous pressure release upon the joining process owing to the rivet plastic deformation and the polymer squeezing flow. Two preferential paths of material flow were identified through the alternate replacement of the upper and lower composite parts by a poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA) plate—the composite upward and squeezing flow between the parts which induced their separation. The ultimate lap shear forces up to 6580 ± 383 N were achieved for the direct-friction-riveted CF-PEEK overlap joints. The formation of a gap to accommodate squeezed polymer between the composite parts during the process had no influence on the joint mechanical performance. The increase in the clamping pressure for joints produced with a low friction force did not affect the joint-anchoring efficiency and consequently the joint strength. On the other hand, the combined effect of a high-friction force and clamping pressure induced the inverted bell shape of the plastically deformed rivet tip, a lower anchoring efficiency, and the delamination of the composite, all of which decrease the mechanical strength by 31%. Therefore, the higher the friction force and clamping pressure, the more defects would be generated in the composite parts and the more changes in the shape of the plastically deformed rivet tip, leading to a lower level of quasi-static mechanical performance. All the joints failed by initial bearing of the composite and final rivet pull-out. The findings of this work can contribute to further improvement of the clamping design for industrial application.

Tenography has been performed on eight detached lingers and two intact hands of cadavers. Bulging and overlapping of synovial pockets between the ligamentous structures during flexion, their flattening during extension and the continuous change in expansion of the proximal cul de sac suggests a possible mixing mechanism for the synovial fluid. During flexion and extension a physiological joint-type bowstringing of the flexor tendons was observed at the PIP and DIP joints. This finding supports the theory that the flexor tendon moment arm is increased at these joints.

Résumé :
Joint entity and relation extraction is to detect entity and relation using a single model. In this paper, we present a novel unified joint extraction model which directly tags entity and relation labels according to a query word position p, i.e., detecting entity at p, and identifying entities at other positions that have relationship with the former. To this end, we first design a tagging scheme to generate n tag sequences for an n-word sentence. Then a position-attention mechanism is introduced to produce different sentence representations for every query position to model these n tag sequences. In this way, our method can simultaneously extract all entities and their type, as well as all overlapping relations. Experiment results show that our framework performances significantly better on extracting overlapping relations as well as detecting long-range relation, and thus we achieve state-of-the-art performance on two public datasets.

Résumé :
This paper presents a winning solution for the CCKS-2020 financial event extraction task, where the goal is to identify event types, triggers and arguments in sentences across multiple event types. In this task, we focus on resolving two challenging problems (i.e., low resources and element overlapping) by proposing a joint learning framework, named SaltyFishes. We first formulate the event extraction task as a joint probability model. By sharing parameters in the model across different types, we can learn to adapt to low-resource events based on high-resource events. We further address the element overlapping problems by a mechanism of Conditional Layer Normalization, achieving even better extraction accuracy. The overall approach achieves an F1-score of 87.8% which ranks the first place in the competition.

SummaryObjectives: To assess the potential of a new single-session surgical procedure, the overlapping pubic and ischiatic osteotomy (OPIO) for modification of bilateral hip conformation. We hypothesized that OPIO would be simple to perform with currently available surgical equipment, through a single surgical approach, with minimal potential morbidity, and that it would allow adequate simultaneous bilateral improvement of coxofemoral joint conformation in patients at risk of canine hip dysplasia. Methods: The OPIO procedure was performed in the pelves of five large breed canine cadavers. Computed tomography images of each cadaver were compared by measurement of the dorsal acetabular rim angle (DARA), acetabular angle (AA), dorso-ventral sacroiliac ratio (SR), and pubic inlet area before and after OPIO.Results: Coxofemoral joint conformation was improved after OPIO. Postoperative DARA was significantly decreased (mean: –5.09°) and AA was significantly increased (mean: 3.54°) after OPIO. The SR was not significantly different after OPIO, indicating minimal impact on the sacro-illiac joints by the procedure. Pubic inlet dimensions and area were significantly decreased after OPIO, but the overall effect on pelvic inlet area was clinically insignificant.Clinical significance: An OPIO allows some improvement of coxofemoral joint conformation in canine cadavers.

We have also derived joint distributions of longest runs of various types under similar conditions. Distributions of runs have found applications in fields of reliability of consecutive-k-out-of n: F system, consecutive k-out-of-r-from n: F system, start-up demonstration test, molecular biology, radar detection, time sharing systems and quality control. The literature is profound in discussion of marginal distribution and joint distribution of runs of various types under linear and circular setup using techniques like urn model with balls of two or more colours, probability generating function and compounding discrete distribution with suitable beta functions. Through this paper for first time effort been made to discuss joint distributions of runs of various lengths and types using Multi-colour urn model.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a group of overlapping disorders, which may have different aetiology but similar biological, morphologic and clinical outcome. In osteoarthritis, process will not encompass the joint cartilage only, but the entire joint, including sub-hondral bone, ligaments, capsule, and sinovial membrane and surrounding muscles. Osteoarthritis is a multi-factor disorder of sinovial joints, which occurs as result of mechanical and biological factors, which destabilise normal hondrocyte function, partitioning of cartilage, extra-cellular matrix and sub-hondral bone. The earliest changes, which are restricted to the joint cartilage surface only, do not cause any subjective feeling. The pain in arthrosis occurs (or re-occurs) a bit later, Diagnosis will be determined based on clinical exam as well as signs and symptoms present. Symptomatic and functional treatment of osteoarthritis as one of rheumatic disorders must be taken throughout years, sometimes throughout a lifetime. It encompasses application of many medications and physical therapy procedures.

Résumé :
An experimental program investigating the flexural behavior of an innovative dovetail ultra-high performance concrete joint for connecting precast ultra-high performance concrete slabs in composite bridges is reported in this study. Test parameters included interface treatment method, joint material, reinforcing bar overlapping form, and prestressing level. Specifically, a new steel wire mesh interface treatment was proposed, which could generate an additional fiber-bridging mechanism in the joint surface. An enhancement of 17.4%, 20.1%, and 50% on flexural cracking strength, ultimate strength, and ductility were obtained by using the steel wire mesh. Joint material showed no significant influence, while prestressing had obvious influence on the flexural behavior of ultra-high performance concrete joints. The post-cracking behavior, ductility performance, and stiffness degradation of the tested specimens were analyzed. Good deformability was obtained for the jointed ultra-high performance concrete slabs as the ratio of deflection to span was about 1/50 at failure. The post-cracking stiffness was retained at about 90% of the initial stiffness, while the ultimate stiffness was retained at about 10% of the initial stiffness. The research findings are useful in popularizing and applying the proposed innovative dovetail ultra-high performance concrete joints in composite bridges.

Résumé :
The extraction of regulatory information is a prerequisite for automated code compliance checking. Although a number of machine learning models have been explored for extracting computer-understandable engineering constraints from code clauses written in natural language, most are inadequate to address the complexity of the semantic relations between named entities. In particular, the existence of two or more overlapping relations involving the same entity greatly exacerbates the difficulty of information extraction. In this paper, a joint extraction model is proposed to extract the relations among entities in the form of triplets. In the proposed model, a hybrid deep learning algorithm combined with a decomposition strategy is applied. First, all candidate subject entities are identified, and then, the associated object entities and predicate relations are simultaneously detected. In this way, multiple relations, especially overlapping relations, can be extracted. Furthermore, nonrelated pairs are excluded through the judicious recognition of subject entities. Moreover, a collection of domain-specific entity and relation types is investigated for model implementation. The experimental results indicate that the proposed model is promising for extracting multiple relations and entities from building codes.

Résumé :
Abstract Phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF) and one-component polyurethane (PUR) resins were used to manufacture single lap joint samples corresponding to EN 302-1. 3D electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI), which enables measurement of spatial displacement of less than 0.1 μm, was used during tensile shear experiments to observe full-field in-plane and out-of-plane deformation of the lap joint samples and to detect strain concentrations in the vicinity of glue lines. Finite element analysis was performed to validate ESPI measurements. In general, ESPI measurements showed that in a lap joint experiment a very small volume of material close to the ends of the overlapping area is highly strained. ESPI and finite element analysis pointed out that PUR glue lines are characterised by much higher shear deformations than PRF glue lines, especially at the ends of the overlapping area. However, due to the lower Young's modulus of PUR resin compared to PRF, higher shear strains but lower shear stress concentrations can be expected in PUR, which was confirmed by the FE model.

Résumé :
SUMMARYThis paper deals with the design of 3-legged distributed-compliance XYZ compliant parallel manipulators (CPMs) with minimised parasitic rotations, based on the kinematically decoupled 3-PPPRR (P: prismatic joint, and R: revolute joint) and 3-PPPR translational parallel mechanisms (TPMs). The designs are firstly proposed using the kinematic substitution approach, with the help of the stiffness center (SC) overlapping based approach. This is done by an appropriate embedded arrangement so that all of the SCs associated with the passive compliant modules overlap at the point where all of the input forces applied at the input stages intersect. Kinematostatic modelling and characteristic analysis are then carried out for the proposed large-range 3-PPPRR XYZ CPM with overlapping SCs. The results from finite element analysis (FEA) are compared to the characteristics found for the developed analytical models, as are experimental testing results (primary motion) from the prototyped 3-PPPRR XYZ CPM with overlapping SCs. Finally, issues on large-range motion and dynamics of such designs are discussed, as are possible improvements of the actuated compliant P joint. It is shown that the potential merits of the designs presented here include a) minimised parasitic rotations by only using three identical compliant legs; b) compact configurations and small size due to the use of embedded designs; c) approximately kinematostatically decoupled designs capable of easy controls; and d) monolithic fabrication for each leg using existing planar manufacturing technologies such as electric discharge machining (EDM).

Résumé :
Optical image encryption technology based on joint transform correlation (JTC) has attracted increasing attention from researchers. We propose a multi-user secure communication system based on the special properties of JTC. Multiple users utilize their own fingerprints to encrypt the plain-text in the encryption process, and each user must be first authenticated at the beginning of the decryption process. Only users with legitimate identities can perform the decryption process, whereas unauthorized users with false identities cannot, so the security of the system is greatly improved. Furthermore, we propose a multi-user double-image encryption method, which can better meet the needs of different security environments. Considering the possibility of overlapping images at the output end, we prove that a JTC-based image encryption system can avoid overlapping images at the output when the distance between the input images is 3W (W is the side length of a square image), which provides a theoretical foundation for further research. Finally, a numerical simulation demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed idea.

Résumé :
In modern surveillance systems, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has been actively discussed in order to extend target monitoring areas, even for an extreme circumstances. This paper proposes an energy-efficient UAV-based surveillance system that operates from two different sequential methods. First, the proposed algorithm pursues energy-efficient operations by deactivating selected surveillance cameras on the UAVs located in overlapping areas. For this objective, a message-passing based algorithm is used because the overlapping situations can be formulated using a max-weight independent set. Next, the unscheduled UAVs based on the message-passing fly to the charging towers to be charged. This algorithm computes the optimal matching between the UAVs and charging towers and the amount of energy allocation for the scheduled UAV-tower pairs. This joint optimization is initially formulated as non-convex, and it is then reformulated to be convex, which can guarantee optimal solutions. The proposed framework achieves the desired performance, as presented in the performance evaluation.

Résumé :
Overlapped joints are generally regarded as having higher strengths than otherwise identical, simple nonoverlapping joints because of the more efficient load transfer between braces. However, not only that relatively little research has been carried out on such joints, the few test data from which current design guidance was derived has also been recently rejected. This paper reports the first phase of a parametric finite element study into the strength of overlapping K joints under axial loading. The numerical models were validated and calibrated against existing gap and overlapped K joint test results, and various factors which affect the relationship between the strength and the overlap amount, such as boundary restraints, hidden welds, loading hierarchy, and failure modes, were investigated. The results of the work presented lay the foundation for a future parametric study.

Résumé :
Aluminum structures, and in particular an element of aerostructures, are strongly exposed to the effects of weather conditions. In the case of using new techniques of joining these structural elements, the selection of proper corrosion protection without losing the required properties of the joint may determine its potential application. This paper presents the results of experimental research concerning the influence of corrosion protection on the microstructure and mechanical strength of resistance spot welded (RSW) and refill friction stir spot welded (RFSSW) joints. The tests were carried out on 2024 T3 aluminum alloy, both sides alcladed. For comparison purposes, the following joints were welded: without any protection, with the primer layer, with anodic oxide coating, and with anodic oxide coating plus sealant between the overlapping surface of the welded metal sheet. The samples were visually inspected, and metallographic and mechanical strength examination was conducted. The test results indicate that the application of the protective layers and its type have an impact on the strength of RSW and RFSSW joints. The use of an adhesive or sealant in welded joints provides an increase in the load capacity of the joint.

Résumé :
The Tardis forest modeling program was used to investigate the effects on timber supply and delivered wood cost of alternative forest tenure policies on a forest management agreement area in northeastern Alberta. Under the current tenure policy (business as usual), the woodlands divisions of one large pulp company and several sawmill companies are responsible for different aspects of planning and forest management on the area. We propose an alternative tenure policy (global planning) whereby one forest management entity is responsible for harvesting timber and delivering it to the various mills. The global planning alternative has several advantages over business as usual, especially for the sawmill companies. With business as usual, the sawmill companies experience shortfalls in timber harvest volume. No shortfall is seen with global planning. Under global planning, delivered wood cost for the sawmill companies is reduced by $2.81 m–3 , on average. Forest fire is an important disturbance affecting timber supply in the area. We examine the joint effects of tenure policy and fire using Monte Carlo simulation. The superiority of global planning is even more apparent with fire incorporated in the model. According to our simulations, many sawmills are very likely to experience persistent sharp decreases in delivered wood volume under business as usual. No such decreases occur under global planning. Key words: forest tenure, simulation modeling, timber harvest scheduling, forest fire, policy analysis, boreal mixedwood, sustainable forest management

SummaryShortening of the deep digital flexor tendon was performed by tenotomy, overlapping and anastomosis. The procedure was performed on a two-year-old Quarter Horse Mare with distal interphalangeal joint hyperextension with subluxation and metatarsophalangeal joint hyperextension. These problems originated from damage to the digital flexor tendons, presumably due to previous distal limb trauma. The procedure markedly improved the mare's level of comfort, degree of ambulation and limb conformation. Two years following surgery the mare was comfortable at pasture.

Résumé :
On basis of the data from tests, FE nonlinear analysis mode on the multi-planar CHS KK-joints with in-plane gap and out-of-plane overlap (KK-OPOv) was advanced and validated in terms of failure mode, ultimate bearing capacity and etc. And the adaptability is reasonable. Moreover, FE nonlinear analysis for the joint on the typical load-displacement curve, failure behavior, failure mechanism and etc was conducted. The study suggests that the multi-planar KK-OPOv joints appear mainly in the CLD1 failure mode; at the time of failure, the tube wall deformations on the chords of multi-planar KK-OPOv joints and the corresponding planar K-Gap joints are coincide with each other basically. Both of these two types of joints are of a same failure mechanism; the multi-planar parameter ζt influences, to a certain extent, the ultimate bearing capacity on joints. That is, as the overlapping ratio of the out-of-plane braces is higher (namely, the absolute value of ζt increases), the ultimate bearing capacity of the joints decreases.

Résumé :
The aim of the study was to evaluate the temporomandibular joint, the prevalence of single and multiple diagnosis and potential sided domination of temporomandibular dysfunction in patients with temporomandibular disorder—myofascial pain with referral. The study group enrolled 50 people—37 females and 13 males between 18 and 25 years old with an average age of 23.36 ± 2.14. The patients underwent joint vibration analysis. Sixty seven percent of all examined tem-poromandibular joints were classified as group I according to Mark Piper’s classification. Class IIIA appeared in 17% of joints. Eight percent of temporomandibular joints were classified as class IVA. There were no statistically significant differences in the prevalence of temporomandibular disorder with respect to gender (p = 0.838639). The relatively high prevalence of multiple diagnoses proved the overlapping nature of muscle and intraarticular disorders. Twenty eight percent of the subjects suffered from a combination of myofascial pain with referral and bilateral temporoman-dibular dysfunction. In 62% of the patients a lack of intraarticular disorders was reported. The suggestion that there exists sided domination in the occurrence of temporomandibular disorders has not been confirmed. Due to the small sample size, such differences cannot be excluded. Fur-ther research is needed.

Résumé :
A relation tuple consists of two entities and the relation between them, and often such tuples are found in unstructured text. There may be multiple relation tuples present in a text and they may share one or both entities among them. Extracting such relation tuples from a sentence is a difficult task and sharing of entities or overlapping entities among the tuples makes it more challenging. Most prior work adopted a pipeline approach where entities were identified first followed by finding the relations among them, thus missing the interaction among the relation tuples in a sentence. In this paper, we propose two approaches to use encoder-decoder architecture for jointly extracting entities and relations. In the first approach, we propose a representation scheme for relation tuples which enables the decoder to generate one word at a time like machine translation models and still finds all the tuples present in a sentence with full entity names of different length and with overlapping entities. Next, we propose a pointer network-based decoding approach where an entire tuple is generated at every time step. Experiments on the publicly available New York Times corpus show that our proposed approaches outperform previous work and achieve significantly higher F1 scores.

Résumé :
Submerged arc welding is the most applicable and productive procedure when thick sections have to be welded. Nevertheless, the manufacturers of pressure vessels, pipelines, ships and offshore structures keep on looking for new and modern design solutions of equipments and technologies which should lead to increase of welding process productivity. For instance, the longitudinal welds of pipelines are, mostly, performed by submerged arc welding procedure with multiple arcs and/or multi-wires, such as twin, tandem or twin-tandem, in order to increase the process productivity. However, achievement of optimal mechanical properties of the welded joint should remain the most important quality criteria. It is well known that dependence of the mechanical and metallurgical changes on heat transfer plays a major role in obtaining of safe welded structures and preserving of their structural integrity. That is why the investigation of heat transfer induced by the welding process is required. Furthermore, setting of distance between thermal sources and its influence on the overlapping phenomenon of temperature fields should be explored when submerged double-arc welding procedure is applied. Three dimensional finite element model of butt welded joint - used for simulation of heat transfer in pipeline steel joint performed by submerged double-arc welding process - is developed and described in this paper. Numerical results and a comparative analysis related to the temperature distribution, thermal history, and temperature variation in cross section of the welded joint at different time steps are discussed. Finally, important conclusions regarding the influence of distance between thermal sources on thermal effects and temperature fields overlapping are drawn.

Résumé :
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the most common inflammatory rheumatological condition affecting children. The condition stems from the inability of the immune system to discriminate between self and not-self leading to inappropriate immune reactions against joints. The different subtypes are differentiated by the number of joints involved and the presence or absence of certain exclusion factors. Due to overlapping diagnostic criterion and range of clinical presentation, diagnosis can be a difficult task. Our patient initially presented with joint swelling without pain that was initially diagnosed with traumatic swelling that later was considered to be of an infectious etiology. A biopsy revealed synovitis but current treatment for traumatic and infectious causes continued to fail. Finally, an additional joint showed inflammation leading to additional testing that uncovered that the patient was positive for HLA-B27 as well as a first degree relative with ankylosing spondylitis. This coupled with the inflammatory biopsy findings led to the diagnosis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The identification of an HLA-B27 positive patient is important as this population has been shown to have low rates of remission, resistance to certain treatments used for juvenile idiopathic arthritis, specifically DMARDS and corticosteroids which are often first line treatments for juvenile idiopathic arthritis. The HLA-B27 patient population has also been shown to progress to axial involvement and joint destruction leading to earlier need for arthroplasties. As early identification is important in the determination to begin biologic treatments early in the disease course, physician should maintain a clinical suspicion for JIA when dealing with swollen joints in the pediatric population.

Résumé :
An eccentric jacket substructure is comprised of circular hollow section tubular joints with complete overlap of braces. The joint is formed with the lap brace overlapping the diagonal through the brace joining the chord face. In this study, the jacket substructure is subjected to a static vertical load due to self-weight and facilities, and four horizontal loads to simulate the environmental loads applied at four different horizontal angles. The maximum stresses at each level of the eccentric jacket are found lower than that of the traditional jacket. For the eccentric jacket substructure, the high stress critical area is mostly located at the short segment of the diagonal through brace joining the chord face. From the parametric study, the ultimate strength of the joint with the complete overlap of braces of the eccentric jacket reduces with increasing the gap size-to-through brace diameter ratio, ξ. With the short segment of the through-brace joining the chord face, the high-stress area is transferred from the joint intersection of the chord and the braces to the lap brace and the diagonal through-brace. It could; therefore, be concluded, based on the strength performance, that the eccentric jacket performed better with maximum stresses and high-stress critical areas.

Résumé :
Joint extraction of entities and relations from unstructured text is an essential step in constructing a knowledge base. However, relational facts in these texts are often complicated, where most of them contain overlapping triplets, making the joint extraction task still challenging. This paper proposes a novel Sequence-to-Sequence (Seq2Seq) framework to handle the overlapping issue, which models the triplet extraction as a sequence generation task. Specifically, a unique cascade structure is proposed to connect transformer and pointer network to extract entities and relations jointly. By this means, sequences can be generated in triplet-level and it speeds up the decoding process. Besides, a syntax-guided encoder is applied to integrate the sentence’s syntax structure into the transformer encoder explicitly, which helps the encoder pay more accurate attention to the syntax-related words. Extensive experiments were conducted on three public datasets, named NYT24, NYT29, and WebNLG, and the results show the validity of this model by comparing with various baselines. In addition, a pre-trained BERT model is also employed as the encoder. Then it comes up to excellent performance that the F1 scores on the three datasets surpass the strongest baseline by 5.7%, 5.6%, and 4.4%.
