Résumé :
AbstractFitness technology, including trackers and smartphone applications (apps), has become increasingly popular for measuring and encouraging physical activity in recent years. Physical activity is closely linked with health and well-being; however, many Americans do not engage in regular exercise. This trend of inactivity increases with age and can interfere with an individual’s capacity to work. The benefits of physical activity and fitness extend beyond job performance and physical aspects of work capacity and include longer life and enhanced quality of life. This literature review addresses the question: How does the use of self-management QoL technologies affect work capacity and reported quality of life? It examines (1) the factors associated with variations in work capacity and quality of life; (2) the state-of-art of personalized, miniaturized computing QoL technologies for measuring and improving physical activity and fitness levels; (3) the use of activity trackers to quantify work capacity; and (4) strategies to enhance use of Web-based tools and fitness technology for behavioral change, health management, and rehabilitation interventions for the self-management of work capacity and enhancement of health-related quality of life across the lifespan. This chapter concludes with recommendations for future development of tools for the assessment and improvement of working capacity.

AbstractThis introductory chapter provides the rationale for adopting an interdisciplinary approach to study the implications of shared physical custody arrangements for families and their members. The Chapter gives a rapid overview of the current state of the literature on shared physical custody in the legal, sociological and psychological literature and highlights the uncertainties and controversial aspects still open to exploration in this field. It addresses the specific research needs in order to move forward from the current situation, where evidence on shared physical custody produce results that are scattered across disciplines and hard to compare across contexts. It concludes by arguing that the complexity of shared physical custody implications in terms of health, educational, relational and living standards requires research from different disciplinary fields in order to agree on a comprehensive theoretical perspective, standardize definitions and collect longitudinal and comparable data on the custody arrangements and their normative environments.

Résumé :
AbstractIn China, a conspicuous disparity exists among the built environments within urban and rural areas and the lifestyle requirements of the elderly, presenting a notable social issue. Throughout the urbanization process, the built environments in both urban and rural regions may not sufficiently address the preferences and requirements of the elderly demographic. This deficiency may encompass shortcomings in public transportation infrastructure, community services, and other aspects, consequently constraining the social engagement and activity scope of the elderly population. Despite the built environment at the community level being conducive to social interaction and physical activity among the elderly, the reality often deviates from their needs. Challenges such as insufficient pedestrian pathways, parks, and fitness facilities may impede the eagerness and capability of the elderly to actively participate in community life. To address these challenges, this study employed the Adaboost iterative algorithm and traditional logistic regression analysis to comprehensively grasp the influence of the constructed environment on the well-being of older adults. Through an examination of factors such as physical activity levels, dietary intake, and social interaction among the elderly, it was discerned that the built environment significantly influences the physical activity of older individuals, particularly in factors such as population density and residential areas. Additionally, a close correlation was observed between the built environment and the dietary intake of the elderly, indicating the potential influence of the built environment on their lifestyle. However, it is noteworthy that besides built environment factors, social demographic factors also play a pivotal role in determining social interaction among the elderly. This suggests that when considering the living environment of the elderly, attention should not solely be directed towards enhancing physical surroundings but also towards comprehending the influence of social environments on their lives. Therefore, future research endeavors should further propose strategic recommendations for creating “age-friendly” and "aging in one’s original place” environments in urban and rural areas of China, aiming to better address the diverse needs of the elderly and provide a more scientifically grounded basis for relevant policy-making.

Résumé :
This abstract provides a concise overview of "Physical Fitness in Children," a seminal work examining the multifaceted construct of physical fitness within pediatric populations. The text comprehensively analyzes the physiological, psychological, and sociological determinants influencing children's fitness levels, emphasizing its critical role in promoting long-term health and well-being. It systematically addresses various components of physical fitness, including cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition, detailing validated assessment methodologies and normative data relevant to different age groups. The book meticulously explores the impact of physical activity patterns, sedentary behaviors, and nutritional habits on the development and maintenance of childhood physical fitness. Furthermore, it delves into the intricate relationship between physical fitness and cognitive development, academic performance, and psychosocial well-being, highlighting the holistic benefits of an active lifestyle from an early age. Chapters are dedicated to understanding the biological mechanisms underpinning fitness adaptations in children, as well as the environmental and policy-level interventions designed to foster increased physical activity and improved fitness outcomes. By synthesizing current research and theoretical frameworks, this work offers invaluable insights for researchers, educators, healthcare professionals, and policymakers dedicated to enhancing the physical health of the next generation.

The general objective of this study was to identify the reasons that lead adults to practice sport climbing, considering intrinsic and extrinsic factors. The methodology used here was to study specific cases. Physical education professionals should be capable of prescribing targeted training for climbers, working on technical skills, and considering the importance of the sense of pleasure, in addition to improving physical fitness, quality of life, and health promotion. Résumé :
Abstract The single imperative that best explains physical characteristics of organisms and enduring patterns of behavior is the advantage conferred upon an individual in the successful transmission of genes to the next generation (e.g., Cosmides, Tooby, &Barkow, 1992). Such transmission occurs through direct reproductive success (linear descendants) and also through inclusive fitness (all individuals who share com mon genes, including kin such as siblings, cousins, and their offspring; Wenegrat, 1990). These evolutionary principles have resulted, via natural selection acting over many millennia, in characteristics that promote fitness, such as size, intelligence, physical configuration, coordination, and so on. In addition, characteristic patterns of behavior with regard to mating and preferences for situations that offer favorable reproductive conditions, such as specific habitats, relative absence of predators, and nutritional foods, are also seen as evolutionarily determined. Recently, this perspective on fitness has been extended (e.g., de Waal, 1996; Gilbert, 1997; Wright, 1994) to consider the value of emotions.

Most bacterial plant pathogens colonize the surface of healthy plants as epiphytes before colonizing internally and initiating disease. The epiphytic phase of these pathogens is thus an important aspect of their epidemiology and a stage at which chemical and biological control is aimed. However, little is known of the genes and phenotypes that contribute to the ability of bacteria to grow on leaves and survive the variable physical environment in this habitat. In addition, while genes such as hrp awr and others which confer pathogenicity and in planta growth ability have been described, their
