Résumé :
To fabricate a thermally stable optical filter in the mid-infrared (MIR) region, a plasmonic metal disk array (PMDA) using tantalum (Ta) was proposed, and the filter performance was compared with that of conventional silver (Ag)-based PMDAs. A finite-difference time-domain method was utilized to systematically analyze the effects of geometric configuration and constituent materials on the optical properties of PMDA filters with a periodic hexagonal lattice. Unlike the Ag PMDA filters, whose transmission dip at resonance wavelengths gradually decreased with increasing temperature, the Ta PMDA filters revealed almost the same transmission spectra even after annealing at 700 °C for 30 min. The Ta-based MIR PMDA filter exhibited similar optical properties to those of the Ag PMDA. The PMDAs with a duty cycle (d.c.) of 60% exhibited stop band spectra with sufficiently deep dip and wide linewidth. MIR filters fabricated with the Ta disks were demonstrated to quantify different types of alcohols through the monitoring of transmission spectra.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT The protocatechuate (PCA) 4,5-cleavage (PCA45) pathway is the essential catabolic route for the degradation of various aromatic acids in the genus Comamonas. All of the PCA45 pathway genes, orf1-pmdKEFDABC, as well as another PCA 4,5-dioxygenase gene, pmdA II B II, were isolated from a phthalate-degrading bacterium, Comamonas sp. strain E6. Disruption of pmdB and pmdD in E6, which code for the β subunit of PCA 4,5-dioxygenase and 2-pyrone-4,6-dicarboxylate (PDC) hydrolase, respectively, resulted in a growth defect on PCA, indicating that these genes are essential for the growth of E6 on PCA. On the other hand, inactivation of pmdB II did not affect the growth of E6 on PCA. Disruption of pmdK, which is related to a 4-hydroxybenzoate/PCA transporter of Pseudomonas putida, resulted in growth retardation on PCA. The insertional inactivation of orf1 in E6, whose deduced amino acid sequence has no similarity with proteins of known function, led to the complete loss of growth on PCA and the accumulation of PDC and 4-oxalomesaconate (OMA) from PCA. These results indicated the involvement of orf1 in the PCA45 pathway, and this gene, designated pmdU, was suggested to code for OMA tautomerase. Reverse transcription-PCR analysis suggested that the pmdUKEFDABC genes constitute an operon. The transcription start site of the pmd operon was mapped at 167 nucleotides upstream of the initiation codon of pmdU. The pmd promoter activity was enhanced 20-fold when the cells were grown in the presence of PCA. Inducers of the pmd operon were found to be PCA and PDC, but PDC was the more effective inducer.

Résumé :
Due to growing concerns about environmental issues and the decline of petroleum-based resources, the synthesis of new biobased compounds for the polymer industry has become a prominent and timely topic. P-menthane-1,8-diamine (PMDA) is a readily available compound synthesized from turpentine, a cheap mixture of natural compounds isolated from pine trees. PMDA has been extensively used for its biological activities, but it can also serve as a source of valuable monomers for the polymer industry. In this work, commercial PMDA (ca. 85% pure) was purified by salinization, crystallization, and alkali treatment and then converted into p-menthane-1,8-diisocyanate (PMDI) through a phosgene-free synthesis at room temperature. A thorough analytical study using NMR techniques (1H, 13C, 13C-1H HSQC, 13C-1H HMBC, and 1H-1H NOESY) enables the characterization of the cis-trans isomeric mixtures of both PMDA and PMDI. These structural studies allowed for a better understanding of the spatial configuration of both isomers. Then, the reactivity of PMDI with a primary alcohol (benzyl alcohol) was studied in the presence of nine different catalysts exhibiting different activation modes. Finally, the use of PMDI in the synthesis of polyurethanes was explored to demonstrate that PMDI can be employed as a new biobased alternative to petrochemical-based isocyanates such as isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI).

A novel polysilicone flame retardant (PMDA) has been synthesized and covalently grafted onto the surfaces of graphene oxide (GO) to obtain GO-PMDA. The chemical structure and morphology of GO-PMDA was characterized and confirmed by the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), atomic force microscope (AFM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results of dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) indicated that the grafting of PMDA improved the dispersion and solubility of GO sheets in the epoxy resin (EP) matrix. The TGA and cone calorimeter measurements showed that compared with the GO, GO-PMDA could significantly improve the thermal stability and flame retardancy of EP. In comparison to pure EP, the peak heat release rate (pHRR) and total heat release (THR) of EP/GO-PMDA were reduced by 30.5% and 10.0% respectively. This greatly enhanced the flame retardancy of EP which was mainly attributed to the synergistic effect of GO-PMDA. Polysilicone can create a stable silica layer on the char surface of EP, which reinforces the barrier effect of graphene.

Résumé :
Two novel core-shell composites SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb, SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen with SiO2 as the core and terbium organic complex as the shell, were successfully synthesized. The terbium ion was coordinated with organic ligand forming terbium organic complex in the shell layer. The bi-functional organosilane ((HOOC)2C6H2(CONH(CH2)3Si(OCH2CH3)3)2 (abbreviated as PMDA-Si) was used as the first ligand and phen as the second ligand. Furthermore, the silica-modified SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb@SiO2 and SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen@SiO2 core-shell-shell composites were also synthesized by sol-gel chemical route. An amorphous silica shell was coated around the SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb and SiO2@PMDA-Si-Tb-phen core-shell composites. The core-shell and core-shell-shell composites both exhibited excellent luminescence in solid state. The luminescence of core-shell-shell composites was stronger than that of core-shell composites. Meanwhile, an improved luminescence stability property for the core-shell-shell composites was found in the aqueous solution. The core-shell-shell composites exhibited bright luminescence, high stability, long lifetime, and good solubility, which may present potential applications in the bio-medical field.

Résumé :
A novel silicone flame retardant PMDA was synthesized and blended with a commercial thiol–ene (TE) to obtain a flame-retardant TE (FRTE) composite. The cone calorimeter measurement showed the incorporation of PMDA improved the flame retardancy of the TE composite at concentrations of 5 wt%. The thermal stability and degradation mechanism of FRTE in nitrogen was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The degradation behaviour of TE containing a PMDA flame retardant was found to be changed. The kinetics of thermal degradation was evaluated by Kissinger method and Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method. The results showed that the activation energies of the FRTE degradation were higher than those of neat TE. However, the degradation mechanism of the TE matrix was not changed by the incorporation of flame-retardant PMDA. In this study, the flame-retardant mechanism of PMDA flame-retardant TE polymer was explained by using two kinetic analysis methods.

Résumé :
Carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membranes have excellent gas separation property over conventional polymeric membranes and superior anti-swelling property. PMDA-ODA polyimide has high thermal stability and good mechanical property. It has been extensively adopted as the precursor of CMS membrane. However, due to the insoluble nature, PMDA-ODA CMS membranes are limited to configurations like dense symmetric films or composite membranes using porous inorganic or metal substrates. In this work, CMS hollow fiber composite membranes based on an asymmetric PMDA-ODA hollow fiber were successfully prepared for the first time. The neat PMDA-ODA hollow fiber membrane was crosslinked by polyethyleneimine to alleviate pore collapsing during carbonization and then dip-coated by a PMDA-ODA PAA solution to seal the surface defects. The PDMA-ODA CMS composite hollow fiber membranes showed gas permeances of 93.4 GPU, 19.6 GPU, 6.5 GPU, and 4.7 GPU for CO2, O2, N2, and CH4, respectively, with an ideal selectivity of 14.4, 3.0, and 19.8 for CO2/N2, O2/N2, and CO2/CH4 gas pairs, respectively. The attractive gas separation property shows a great potential for industrial application.

Cm#-#1 a 10#-#1 s. Cm#-#1.

Toutefois, il est difficile d'obtenir des valeurs de solubilité de I'eau statistiquement fiables en utilisant de telles méthodes d'insertion de particule<br>Even if water is one of the main factors affecting the ageing of polymers, sorption mechanisms and water organization in polymers are not well understood. This work aims to study water in polymers at a molecular level by using molecular dynamics simulations. Thus, four molecular models of different polymer (PMDA-ODA, PES, PPSU and PSU) have been validated in the dry conditions before being simulated in hydrated states. Simulation results show that a majority of water molecules are hydrogen bonded with two hydrophilic sites at the same time via their hydrogens. Hydrophilic sites implied are certain polymer sites and water oxygens of neighbouring water molecules. It has been found that water organization is not only related to the polymer structure, but is also coupled strongly to water molecules present in the polymer matrix. These molecular observations have been compared with current interpretations of infra red measurements, dynamic vapour sorption experiments and density measurements. Another aspect of this work has been to determine solubility in polymers with theoretical methods using molecular simulations. An excluded volume mapping test-particle insertion technique has been used to characterize the influence of absorbed water on gas solubilities. This technique has also revealed the importance of the details of the molecular model of water used in calculations. Nevertheless, statistically reliable solubilities of water remain difficult to attain with such test-particle insertion methods

There is a progression of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS), but serious and sometimes debilitating for the sufferer out of it. The prevalence of PMDD is about five percent of all women of childbearing potential. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine how women diagnosed with PMDD experienced how it is to live with the diagnosis, the treatment they have tried, and the response they got in contact with health services. Method: A qualitative survey based on interviews was made in order to comprehend the diagnosis PMDS and its symptoms. Seven women participated in semi-structured interviews. The terms and conditions in this survey included women diagnosed with PMDS by and in contact with the health care system. The interviews were analyzed in accordance to Graneheim and Lundman’s content analysis. Results: The result indicated that PMDS is a relatively unknown condition within the health care system. Some of the informants were not pleased with the treatment given. Others received efficient treatment straight away. PMDS is burdensome to live with and it affects working life as well as social relations in common life. Conclusion: Acquaintance, both within the health care system and the society as a whole, is crucial for women diagnosed with PMDS. PMDS is a serious diagnosis which has to be discovered early in order to give these women efficient treatment. It is essential that women diagnosed with PMDS get efficient tools to handle their diagnosis in order to live vital lives.

Purpose and problem statement: The purpose of this study is to identify how PMS/PMDD affects a leaders leadership. Therefore the individual and the experienced symptoms involving PMS/PMDD are studied. This to identify potential connections between the diagnoses and theories about leadership. <ul type="disc">How is leadership affected by PMS and PMDD?  Method: The study is conducted through an inductive reasoning and qualitative interviews with six informants. The informants helped us understand the empirical field, which in order lead us to identify relevant theories for our study.  Conclusion: The study showed that leadership is affected by PMS and PMDD because of changes in the individual’s personal characteristics during the time of their diagnosis. The individual can go from being a good leader for two weeks, to seeing themselves as a bad leader the remaining two weeks. The change can be recognized by seeing positive characteristics that define a good leader change into the opposite.  Through this study it is apparent to us that there is an opportunity for further research in this subject. It can be done by performing a bigger study or by including a co-worker perspective, since a leader needs its co-workers to be able to lead.<br>Syfte och forskningsfråga: Syftet med denna studie är att identifiera hur PMS/PMDS ger upphov till konsekvenser som påverkar individens ledarskap.
Background. Despite an abundance of clinical research on premenstrual and menstrual symptoms, few epidemiological data provide estimates of the prevalence, incidence, co-morbidity, stability and correlates of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in the community. Aims. To describe the prevalence, incidence, 12 co-morbidity factors and correlates of threshold and subthreshold PMDD in a community sample of young women. Methods. Findings are based on prospective–longitudinal community survey of 1488 women aged 14–24, who were followed-up over a period of 48 months (follow-up, N = 1251) as part of the EDSP sample. Diagnostic assessments were based on the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI) and its 12-month PMDD diagnostic module administered by clinical interviewers. Diagnoses were calculated using DSM-IV algorithms, but daily ratings of symptoms, as required, were not available. Results. The baseline 12-month prevalence of DSM-IV PMDD was 5·8%. Application of the diagnostic exclusion rules with regard to concurrent major depression and dysthymia decreased the rate only slightly (5·3%). An additional 18·6% were ‘near-threshold’ cases, mostly because they failed to meet the mandatory impairment criterion. Over the follow-up period only few new PMDD cases were observed: cumulative lifetime incidence was 7·4%. PMDD syndrome was stable across 48 months with <10% complete remissions among baseline PMDD cases. The 12-month and lifetime co-morbidity rates were high (anxiety disorders 47·4%, mood disorders 22·9%; somatoform 28·4%), only 26·5% had no other mental disorder. Particularly high odds ratios were found with nicotine dependence and PTSD. In terms of correlates increased rates of 4-weeks impairment days, high use of general health and mental health services, and increased rates of suicide attempts were found. Conclusion. In this sample of adolescents and young adults, premenstrual symptoms were widespread. However, DSM-IV PMDD was considerably less prevalent. PMDD is a relatively stable and impairing condition, with high rates of health service utilization, increased suicidality and substantial co-morbidity.

Egenvårdsstrategier kan därmed vara ett redskap för att minska lidandet vid PMS/PMDS.<br>Background Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric syndrome (PMDS) are conditions that involve a total amount of mental and / or physical premenstrual disorders for some women. These conditions are a major affliction and can lead to mental illness, long-term sick leave, somatic disorders, affected relationships and difficulties in coping with their everyday lives. However, nursing research of these women is inadequate. Research in the field of nursing has shown that self-care strengthens the patient's sense of control in both psychiatric and somatic disease states. Aim To illuminate different self-care strategies that may lead to reduced suffering for patients with premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric syndrome. Method The study is a literature review and includes 17 scientific articles that were searched through systematic database searches in PubMed and Cinahl. Selected articles were of qualitative and quantitative method to gain an increased understanding of both self-care experience and objective measures of efficiency. Results There was a variety of self-care strategies that women use and may use to varying degrees. Three categories in the form of lifestyle, psychosocial aspects and complementary therapies were created during the analysis process. The self-care strategies that has showed the strongest connection with reduced suffering at PMS or PMDS were stress reduction, regular physical activity and increased awareness of their body and their own mood.ConclusionsIn the studies, it was found that women used self-care strategies to varying degrees and that they perceived their effectiveness differently. Self-care was able to relieve the symptoms of PMS / PMDS to varying degrees and promoted the feeling of control over one's own situation. Self-care strategies can thus be a tool for reducing the suffering of PMS / PMDS.

Résumé :
Abstract In this work, the effect of biodegradable polymers i.e., carboxymethyl inulin, CMI; lignosulfonate, LS, and synthetic polymers i.e., poly(acrylic acid), PAA; poly(methacrylic acid), PMAA, on the crystal growth kinetics of strontium sulfate (SrSO4) was studied at 25°C. The spontaneous crystallization method was used to investigate the crystallization kinetics of SrSO4. The experimental results show that SrSO4 crystal growth process depends upon CMI concentration and its degree of carboxylation. Comparison with the effects of PAA and PMAA inhibitors, which were also included in our experiments, show that PAA is a more effective inhibitor than CMI-15, CMI-20, CMI-25, PMAA, and LS. The fit of the adsorption model to the experimental data supports a mechanism of inhibition through molecular adsorption of polymers on the surface of growing crystals.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
For understanding characteristics of Polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA) under impact, the damage behavior of PMMA plates with various thicknesses (1.5 to 6.0 mm) subjected to ballistic impacts with various velocities (63 to 180 m/s) is experimentally investigated using a specialized testing apparatus. Moreover, numerical simulations using the Finite Element Method (FEM) are conducted for the corresponding experimentally studied cases. Ductile response and brittle tensile failure behavior are considered in the FEM to describe the nonlinear response and the failure mode of the PMMA plates. The numerical simulations effectively describe the shape of cracks and perforations of the PMMA plates for all studied 25 cases verifying the validity of the numerical model. Although the PMMA plates are generally brittle in the selected range of impact velocity, it is found that these plates exhibit ductile behavior under low-velocity impacts. Moreover, the numerical simulations imply that the kinetic energy loss of the projectile is linearly dependent on the plate-thickness while the impact velocity hardly affects this loss. This behavior obtained experimentally and numerically illustrates the usefulness of the PMMA material for the use as a protective layer in many applications involving ballistic (high velocity) impacts.

Résumé :
The Public Management Development Program (PMDP), the National Government Career Executive Service Development Program, was revitalized in 2012 through Republic Act 10155 or the General Appropriations Act of 2012. The Program is the government’s response to professionalize the bureaucracy and the call for ethical, honest, and effective public governance. The Development Academy of the Philippines acts as the implementing agency of the PMDP. Currently, it offers four courses: the Middle Managers Class, the Senior Executives Class, the Phronetic Leadership Class, and the Local Government Executives and Managers Course. The results of the outcome evaluation of the PMDP, which used both qualitative (surveys and key informant interviews) and quantitative (quasi-experimental statistical matching and difference-in-difference) methods, show positive indications of improvement in the CES competencies of the PMDP graduates, as well as their individual and organizational impact and phronetic leadership traits. However, there is less convincing evidence regarding their networking and innovation skills. The quantitative and qualitative evaluations of the scholars' individual competencies and organizational contributions led to favorable outcomes due to the Program, despite areas for improvement in the PMDP's implementation being noted.
