ABSTRACT In 1987, a handful of people from the small fishing community of Cordova, Alaska, coalesced around concern over the risks of oil-related pollution and oil spills in Prince William Sound posed by the trans-Alaska pipeline terminal and tanker operations in neighboring Valdez. The Cordova group sent an emissary to Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, which operates the Valdez Marine Terminal on behalf of its seven oil company owners. The emissary asked Alyeska to consider forming a citizen group to advise Alyeska on environmental issues of local or regional concern. Alyeska listened but rejected the idea. In March 1989, the Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef. Alyeska's owners, acting principally at the behest of majority owner, British Petroleum, soon effected sweeping change in Alyeska's management. The change in management, with Jim Hermiller as president, produced a change in Alyeska's attitude toward the citizen advisory group proposal, and not long afterward Alyeska formed the Alyeska Citizen Advisory Committee. Over the next year that group evolved into what is now called the Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council, or RCAC. The Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council is a national experiment in providing citizens a voice in corporate decisions that affect them and their communities. This paper recounts the story of RCAC's formation and evolution, the group's mission under both federal law and its contract with Alyeska, and the hallmarks of its achievements and challenges to date.

This article describes research designs utilized to study cumulative sociocultural and psychosocial effects of technological hazards and disasters. We apply these designs to two cases: (a) the Exxon Valdez disaster with a focus on Cordova, Alaska, and (b) the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline project with a focus on the Gitga’at First Nation in Hartley Bay, British Columbia, Canada. The Exxon Valdez oil spill began in 1989 with the grounding of the supertanker on Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska. Fisheries collapsed, key species failed to recover, and litigation languished for 19 years, creating an accumulation of impacts from the initial event. The Gitga’at First Nation serves as a case for examining cumulative effects of energy development, specifically the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline project proposed in 2010. Hartley Bay’s sociocultural and psychosocial well-being are under threat from these and other ongoing development activities; they have also endured centuries of government-led subjugation. In studying each of these communities, we used mixed methods approaches that combined document review, observations, interviews, and surveys. Based on our experiences, we contend that the most effective way to examine cumulative social impacts is to employ concepts and theories drawn from existing research to support guidelines, frameworks, and methods.

Marketing strategy is an essential component of any business operation. Whether a business is successful depends on whether its marketing strategy is effective for its needs. Therefore, the selection of a marketing strategy requires precise calculations and analysis. According to the title observed, the method used in this study is a qualitative research method that generates descriptive data through observations, interviews, and documentaries. Cordova Living is a housing community that employs a sharia payment system, eliminating the BI checking system so that there are no interest, usury, confiscation, or fines. Based on the fact that Cordova Living was the pioneer of sharia-compliant housing in Tasikmalaya, the sharia marketing strategy is a great fit for marketing its products. As evidenced by the marketing mix, implementing sharia marketing strategies can increase sales figures and the selling value of Cordova Living housing. In terms of price (price) has advantages for consumers to negotiate because of the khiyar rights. In terms of products, transparency from start to finish, detailed explanations, and the freedom to bargain and negotiate can eliminate the element of fraud. The strategic place (location) close to the city center and education center provides added value for Cordova Living. The promotion (promotion) used by Cordova Living is friendly and applies 3S (senyum/smiles, salam/greetings, and sapa/greetings) and friendly service by applying Islamic rules.

La finalidad de este trabajo es estudiar las circunstancias de la muerte del príncipe don Juan, los ritos post mortem y las ceremonias fúnebres que tuvieron lugar en Córdoba y Sevilla. Además, nos hemos detenido a analizar cómo pudieron transcurrir los primeros años de su vida y su adolescencia, ya que los testimonios consultados revelan una salud frágil, que, probablemente, pudo precipitar su temprano fallecimiento. Las numerosas fuentes a las que hemos tenido acceso nos han permitido obtener datos inéditos sobre el ceremonial funerario, las manifestaciones de duelo y el volumen de gastos al que tuvieron que hacer frente los concejos de Córdoba y Sevilla para despedir, como la ocasión merecía, al príncipe heredero. The purpose of this paper is to study the circumstances of the death of prince Juan, the post mortem rites and the funeral ceremonies that took place in Cordoba and Seville. In addition, we have analysed how the first years of his life and adolescence may have taken place, since the testimonies consulted reveal a fragile health that probably could have determined his early death. The numerous sources to which we have had access allowed us to obtain unpublished information on the funerary ceremonial, the demonstrations of mourning and the level of expenditure that was assumed by the councils of Cordoba and Seville to pay their last respects to the heir prince.

Fisher’s Fundamental Theorem of Natural Selection (FTNS) was called “biology’s central theorem” (Fisher, 1930, pgs. 36–37; Brockman, 2011; Royal Society, 2020). FTNS might possibly have been accorded this status for decades because Fisher himself declared his own theorem to be fundamental to biology (Fisher, 1930, pgs. 36–37). However, the idea that Fisher’s theorem is biology’s central theorem is by-and-large a myth promoted by popu- lar science writers like Richard Dawkins (Brockman, 2011). Joseph Felsenstein, when delivering the 2018 Fisher Memorial Lecture declared that FTNS was “alas, not so fundamental” (Felsenstein, 2018; Felsenstein, 2017, pg. 94. One may be hard-pressed to find a biology textbook or biology student who can explain how FTNS helps them understand biology. Even the meaning and proof of the FTNS have re- mained contentious even to this day (Price, 1972; Basener and Sanford, 2018).
 Not only does FTNS do little to nothing to explain biological evolution, but like most population genetic and evolutionary literature, FTNS relies on a definition of fit- ness in terms of population growth rates rather than the biophysical notions of fitness which are more in line with the common-sense intuitions of the medical and engineering communities.
 From the perspective of the biophysical (rather than the population growth) notion of fitness, natural selection might be more accurately described as an agent against the increase of complexity rather than an agent for it. Thus, metaphorically speaking, some sort of anti-Weasel model of natural selection might better describe how selection actu- ally works in nature rather than Dawkins’ Weasel or other man-made genetic algorithms.
 However, the main focus of this communication is to pro- vide some pedagogical insights through simple numerical illustrations of Fisher’s Theorem. The hope is that this will show the general irrelevance of FTNS to the question of the evolution of complexity by means of natural selection, and thus show that Fisher’s Theorem is not so fundamental after all.

The discussion regarding the role of hotel management towards guests who come to visit to feel satisfied with the services provided and have the desire to visit again at Grand Cordela Hotel Bandung. Hotel management will find ways to attract new prospective customers by providing promotions and events/events so that potential customers are interested and become loyal customers to the Grand Cordela Hotel Bandung. The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the effect of price, location, and promotion on customer loyalty which is influenced by customer satisfaction, which is at Grand Cordela Hotel Bandung under the operation of Omega Hotel Management - PT Perkasa Internusa Mandiri. The sample of this study used the entire population of guests staying at the Grand Cordela Hotel, Bandung. This research uses correlational quantitative methods and uses Structural Equation Models (SEM). For data processing this research uses the SmartPLS version 4.0 programme. The results of the questionnaire on 34 indicators with a total of 197 respondents were collected after checking and then proceeding with data processing, the results were 5 invalid indicators so the total valid indicators amounted to 29 (twenty-nine) indicators. In this study, there are 10 (ten) hypotheses but after data management, there is 1 (one) hypothesis that is rejected and 9 (nine) other hypotheses are accepted, namely location, promotion, and customer satisfaction have a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty, and price, location, promotion has a positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction and price, location, promotion has a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty mediated by customer satisfaction.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discover the common and differentiating food factors that affect tourists’ gastronomy satisfaction by comparing tourists’ gastronomic experiences at two culinary destinations in the Mediterranean region. Design/methodology/approach A total of 396 usable questionnaires were collected using a convenience sampling method from Cordoba (Spain) and Hatay (Turkey). The data were analysed through descriptive and multivariate analysis methods, including frequency analysis, multiple independent samples t-tests, χ2 analysis and multiple regression analyses. Findings The results indicate that both of the destinations primarily attract existential type gastronomic tourists; however, they also attract recreational and diversionary types of tourist, particularly in Cordoba. From the perspective of Mediterranean cuisine, food quality and traditional gastronomy were determined to be common crucial factors for tourists’ food consumption satisfaction, which outweighs the effects of price, facilities and atmosphere. In addition, service and hospitality and innovation and new tastes in the dishes are the significant factors; however, factors vary according to the destination. Originality/value This study makes a significant contribution to the field food tourism by identifying common significant and insignificant and differentiating food factors that affect tourists’ gastronomic satisfaction in culinary destinations within the same geographical region. The results have the potential to provide a broader perspective for destination marketers and culinary establishments.

Plague is one of the anthropozoonoses, infectious diseases which is trans- mitted to humans by animals. The plague has been one of the most dangerous infective deseases, which has killed more than 100 million people during various historical periods. One of the last plague outbreaks in Europe occurred in Serbia in 1836. and 1837. Since the arrival of the first report on plague outbreak in Turkey, approaching to Serbian borders, prince Miloš Obrenović ordered building of quarantines, situated on main border-passings, and, at the same time, forming of sanitary-police cordons in borderline areas. Inspite of all these efforts, plague entered Serbia, carried by infected Turkish soldiers. Desease spread in counties of Niš, Pirot, Jagodina, Ćuprija, Aleksinac and Valjevo. Unlike other places, the whole population of the town of Jagodina was under quarantine regime and totally isolated. Invited by prince Miloš, dr Karlo Nagy, a very skillful quarantine physician from Zemun, arrived in Serbia. Due to both his efforts and the efforts of local authorities, the spread of plague was stopped in Jagodina. It was the last large outbreak of plague from Asia into Europe, through the Balkans.

The city of Cordoba (Spain) stands out due to the fact that it has different inscriptions both in the List of World Heritage Sites and the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (LICH) of UNESCO. In 2012 the Fiesta of the Patios was inscribed on the LICH. Currently, this event held during two weeks in May involves visits by the public to traditional dwellings. This event is becoming a magnet for tourists from outside the city and has established itself as a further tourist attraction, with the risk that it may lose part of its authenticity. This paper aims to use the hedonic price methodology to examine the externalities deriving from the “Fiesta” in order to verify whether the possible benefits/disadvantages of its existence are capitalised in real estate prices and quantify these effects. The results indicate that the “Fiesta” constitutes an added value for housing properties.

In Mexico, sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) is one of the most notable agrifood crops, due to the economic importance it represents, sucrose and ethanol are systematically produced from it. However, a modernization scheme is currently required through productive diversification, valorizing and taking advantage of the generated co-products. In this scheme, the production of lactic acid is proposed, which generates added value and has potential demand in different industries such as food and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, the objective of this research was to evaluate factors that determine potential supply of lactic acid, if it were produced using bagasse and molasses generated in 18 sugar mills located in four sugarcane regions in Veracruz, Mexico. Statistical methods of panel data analysis were applied by estimating five econometric models, using the factors that can determine such supply. Analysis results indicated that the four sugarcane regions have lactic acid production potential, highlighting the Papaloapan-Gulf (2.6 million t) and Cordoba-Gulf (1.6 million t) regions. Factors that influenced or determined supply were: harvest duration, lactic acid import price, the number of co-products and by-products, the harvested area and the average of schooling level. In conclusion, the sugar agroindustry in Veracruz has the potential to diversify its production through the co-production of lactic acid in the context of a deficit trade balance.

With a reduced supply and increased price of white fish meal (WFM), the exploration of a practical strategy to replace WFM is urgent for sustainable eel culture. A 70-day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing WFM with low-quality brown fish meal (LQBFM) with compound additives (CAs) on the growth performance and intestinal health of juvenile American eels (Anguilla rostrata). The 300 fish (11.02 ± 0.02 g/fish) were randomly distributed in triplicate to four groups (control group, LQBFM20+CAs group, LQBFM30+CAs group and LQBFM40+CAs group). They were fed the diets with LQBFM replacing WFM at 0, 20%, 30% and 40%, respectively. The CAs were a mixture of Macleaya cordata extract, grape seed proanthocyanidins and compound acidifiers; its level in the diets of the trial groups was 0.50%. No significant differences were found in the growth performance between the control and LQBFM20+CAs groups (p > 0.05), whereas those values were significantly decreased in LQBFM30+CAs and LQBFM40+CAs groups (p < 0.05). Compared to the control group, the activity of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase was significantly increased in LQBFM30+CAs and LQBFM40+CAs groups, while lysozyme activity and complement 3 level were significantly decreased in those two groups (p < 0.05). There were decreased antioxidant potential and intestinal morphological indexes in the LQBFM30+CAs and LQBFM40+CAs groups, and no significant differences in those parameters were observed between the control group and LQBFM20+CAs group (p > 0.05). The intestinal microbiota at the phylum level or genus level was beneficially regulated in the LQBFM20+CAs group; similar results were not shown in the LQBFM40+CAs group. In conclusion, with 0.50% CA supplementation in the diet, LQBFM could replace 20% of WFM without detrimental effects on the growth and intestinal health of juvenile American eels and replacing 30% and 40%WFM with LQBFM might exert negative effects on this fish species.

AbstractStarting in the early 2000s, a boom in demand for agricultural commodities displaced cattle ranching out of the most productive areas of the Pampas' prairie. The crossbreeds between Angus and Hereford with Brahman, that is, Brangus and Braford, have been successfully adopted across Argentina. However, little is known about the specific bulls' traits that drive the demand for genetic selection of cattle outside the Pampas. Obtaining the economic value of traits would help to identify the demand for adapting livestock production to different ecosystems while preserving the meat quality of Angus and Hereford cattle. We estimated hedonic price models using Brangus bull sales data from two cattle breeding ranches in the north of Cordoba province. We find that cattle ranchers prefer observed traits such as weight, coat color, and age, while genetic indicators such as Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) have secondary importance. We argue that stronger preferences for red‐coated bulls, as opposed to black‐coated bulls, could be associated with the demand for reducing heat stress. In addition, the relatively weak association between EPDs and prices may be related to unobservable variables such as ranchers' characteristics, and that the value of genetics is implicit in the studs' reputation. The distribution of Rhytisma salicinum is predominantly north-temperate to sub-arctic and circum-polar. In addition, the fungus can be encountered at higher altitudes in mediterranean countries as far south as north Africa. In Britain the species occurs predominantly in the north and west, though exceptional records are known. This may also perhaps indicate a preference for a cooler and wetter climate. The fungus is probably very widely distributed, and in some places may be locally abundant. TRANSMISSION: By air-borne ascospores in humid conditions.
