Résumé :
People with disabilities often carry much of the responsibility for the process of making adaptations to their homes and look to the professionals involved for support. The study described in this article asked people with disabilities whether they believed that they received appropriate professional support, information and practical help when adapting their homes and sought to learn more about their feelings about the adaptation process. A qualitative research method, using three focus groups in different geographical areas, was carried out with a purposive sample of participants who had received adaptations to their homes and had been assisted by their local authorities. The groups comprised participants from urban and rural populations, who had a mix of housing tenure and a variety of professional support. The findings demonstrated that this method was appropriate as a means of both discovering how people felt about the process and identifying what they found to be the most helpful assistance from the professionals involved. The study suggested that when problems arose or delays were experienced during the building process, an occupational therapist was not the only appropriate professional to provide support because this could be given in a variety of ways by different professionals and helping agencies. The study also suggested that, given sufficient information and choice, some people with disabilities preferred to organise their own adaptations, could manage with minimal professional intervention and should be empowered to do so.

Résumé :
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine, almost every area of life has undergone global challenges and changes during the first lockdown, in March–May 2020. In particular, healthcare professionals faced the need to change their traditional activities of providing psychological assistance to children with special educational needs. Inclusive education has not been adapted to distance education in Ukraine. The aim of the study is to identify the impact of personality traits and the activity features on the use of remote educational tools by inclusive education specialists during quarantine. The survey was conducted online, covered six Ukrainian cities and was based on psychological questionnaires. The paper concludes that work effectiveness of healthcare specialists in remote form depends on the following personality traits: the level of tolerance for uncertainty and novelty, generosity, orientation toward the specialist’s achievements; it also depends on the method of assistance and the children’s nosologies. The paper provides three “psychological portraits” of specialists who find themselves in quarantine. Most of the specialists who participated in the study (more than 75%) expressed the opinion that remote learning was less effective than traditional education. Only applied behavior analysts believed that online corrective classes were good enough to use this form of activity in the future.

Résumé :
Currently, the research of personal resources of professional adaptation rescuers is socially significant, as extreme factors and activity conditions impose increased requirements for professionals, their professional and psychological training. The results of the empirical study of the features of adaptability, values and meanings of rescuers with different levels of professional socio-psychological adaptation are presented in the article. The survey involved 60 employees of the “Fire and rescue center”, all of them are men: the average age — 38.5 years; average experience — 11.7 years. The results showed that the professional adaptation success of rescuers is largely determined by the level of personal adaptive capacity, and its specific components — neuro-mental stability, communication skills, moral normativity. The material reward, spiritual satisfaction, achievements and social contacts were the most significant values for all specialists. However, the professional socio-psychological adaptation success increases if these values relate with the professional sphere of life. Existential values (acceptance of life and itself, ontological security, responsibility, death acceptance, the presence of crisis situation meaning and its concept) are the basis for both professional activities of rescuers and their adaptation to extreme conditions. At the same time, rescuers with a high level of professional socio-psychological adaptation have such characteristics as integration of life and death meanings in their crisis situation concept, acceptance of life changes, understanding of life as an opportunity to realize existential motives and meanings, ignoring death feelings and experiences.

The methodological and theoretical basis of the study are the leading provisions of pedagogy, psychology, philosophical concepts devoted to the study of socio-professional adaptation of young teachers); conceptual ideas for self-realization of the individual; provisions on activity - personal orientation of the pedagogical process; creating a comfortable environment; theoretical and practical developments on aspects of adaptation of young professionals. The method of analysis allowed to generalize the essence of the basic concepts: "adaptation", "professional adaptation", "maladaptation". Based on the analysis and synthesis of scientific and pedagogical literature, professional adaptation is mostly understood by managers as a one-sided process of mastering the existing requirements for professional activity (with adaptation to specific requirements of a particular school) and is not considered as a process of active introduction of new ideas. activities. As a result of such an approach, sufficient conditions are not created for a high level of activity, creativity of teachers, their self-expression in professional activities. Analyzing the content of primary adaptation as a whole, school principals do not clearly understand and comprehend the content of secondary adaptation of teachers (related to changes in the type of educational institution, changes in student assessment, introduction of new information and computer technologies, rather dynamic changes in mental development of children, crisis stages in the professional development and professional career of teachers themselves, as well as transformational processes in society).

Résumé :
This article presents the results and theorization of a 4-year Grounded Theory project that sought to understand the processes and dynamics involved in the professional adaptation of internationally educated social workers now practicing in Canada. In-depth interviews with 66 participants, who undertook social work education outside of Canada and have subsequently settled to practice in the country, were conducted. Results highlight that the social work educational background of the professionals not only offers key conceptual, theoretical, and analytical foundations needed to adapt knowledge and skills to practice abroad, but also provides tools to navigate and negotiate professional adaptation processes as a whole. We conclude that ultimately, social workers may adapt well to their new work contexts because of the transferability of social work skills, knowledge, and values to new practice settings, thus facilitating interventions with services users and also their own process of professional adaptation.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT: Decision makers often adapt strategies to specific task and context variables by balancing the need to make good decisions with the need to minimize cognitive effort. However, decision makers must have the requisite knowledge, based on training, to choose the most appropriate strategy. We extend the judgment and decision making literature by experimentally examining how training in specific professional roles (tax and audit) influences advocacy attitudes, and how the elements of the decision environment interact with these attitudes to influence accountants’ judgments. Results indicate that attitudes are moderated by the requirements of the specific decision environment. Specifically, judgments of accounting professionals in a tax decision environment closely mirror their attitudes, whereas in an audit decision environment, this relationship is significantly weaker, indicative of a moderating effect of the decision environment. Supplemental analysis indicates that tax professionals are more likely than auditors to adapt to the professional requirements (advocacy or skepticism) of the task at hand.

Résumé :
In this article, we inquire into the role played by language and core, politicized concepts in inter-professional coordination around expert work in transition. Empirically, we analyze how engineers and landscape architects cooperate around and compete for work related to rainwater management and climate adaptation in cities. We draw on qualitative empirical material, including around 30 in-terviews with involved professionals, focusing on the significance ascribed to the concept of "LAR", local drainage of rainwater, in the wider climate adaptation field since the 1990s. Using Andrew Abbott's (1988, 2005) theory of professions, we show how the story of LAR embodies a wider dynamic of 'proto-jurisdictional' emergence, with new professional roles and languages. Ab-bott places control over work tasks center stage in analyzing professional relations; and this includes 'ecological' considerations for how professions relate to political and academic institutions. On this basis, we show how professional actors use the specific LAR concept as a way of claiming compe-tence and forge alliances with others in the climate adaptation field. In reference to Abbott's notion of the 'knowledge systems' of professions, the implication we draw is that we need to understand professional languages in relation to broader jurisdictional struggles and translations between politi-cal and academic discourses.

With the increasing global circulation of media products, professionals devoted to the process of audiovisual translation and ‘national mediation’ for foreign ready-made programmes have gained a central role in contemporary TV. Presenting the results of an ethnographical study, this essay explores the ‘invisible art’ of TV adaptation and dubbing, explaining its procedures, traditions and challenges. Adaptation has to consider both the technical necessities of the audio-visual and cross-cultural aspects of translation, while dubbing involves extremely intricate production routines, professionals with different skills, written and unwritten rules, a range of different workplaces, economic investments and traditions. The result is a new text, modified following contrasting linguistic, cultural and professional goals.

Although perhaps best known for Lavoura Arcaica (2001), an adaptation of Raduan Nassar's 1975 novel, the majority of Luiz Fernando Carvalho's professional activity has been in television, where, in addition to critically acclaimed telenovelas, he has directed adaptations of works by Eça de Queirós, Ariano Suassuna, Machado de Assis, Clarice Lispector, and Graciliano Ramos. Carvalho's audiovisual oeuvre has distinguished him as one of the most creative directors working in Brazil today and as the first full-fledged Brazilian television auteur. In 2008 Carvalho completed Capitu, an adaptation of Machado de Assis's masterpiece, Dom Casmurro (1899). This paper analyzes Carvalho's unique rereading of Machado's novel and the aesthetic hybridity that characterizes Capitu.

Recent findings have shown that both trait levels of personality and situational variability in its expression are of importance. So here, the Big Five personality traits of 77 professional and 125 amateur stand-up comedians were compared with two large matched samples ( N > 100,000). The comedians were also observed while performing, which enabled a comparison of their stage personalities with situational requirements on 10 selected NEO-PIR facets. Both amateurs and professionals showed higher openness-to-experience, extraversion, and lower conscientiousness than their norm samples, while professionals also evidenced greater neuroticism. Irrespective of trait standing, with regard to most NEO-PIR facets, professionals expressed the appropriate on-stage persona and were better able to regulate their personality to conform to situational requirements than amateurs. This is consistent with research showing that individuals regulate their personality to conform to situational and goal requirements, and adds the finding that successful comedians demonstrate enhanced adaptability compared with amateurs.

In the context of rising concerns about global warming and sustainable development this paper examines the challenges of landscape architecture (LA) in developing and developed countries in handling climate change adaptation. The paper aims to find how the LA institutes define their professionals’ roles in dealing with society and environment. It seeks to focus on the professionals’ involvement in climate change adaptation programs in Indonesia and Australia. The paper seeks to determine how contextual factors such as institutional roles and types of prevalent governance systems shape the development of landscape architecture discipline and its professional capability with respect to other related built environment professions (architecture and planning). The websites of the ISLA (Indonesian Society of Landscape Architects) and the AILA (Australian Institutes of Landscape Architects) are examined and analysed from the perspective of professional principles of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA). The aim is to determine the LA practitioners’ awareness and approaches in handling climate change challenges in various roles and capabilities. It has found that the professional institute in Australia has been involved in the educational program to equip their practitioner members to have a basic knowledge and further application of climate change adaptation in their design and planning projects; whereas in Indonesia the practitioners are actively involved in community capacity building to increase people’s awareness and participation in mitigating the climate change at local as well as regional levels. Findings from the study seek to establish the universality of the LA profession and its relevance in both developed and developing countries.

Résumé :
Implementing inquiry in the outdoors introduces many challenges for teachers, some of which can be dealt with using mobile technologies. For productive use of these technologies, teachers should be provided with the opportunity to develop relevant knowledge and practices. In a professional development (PD) program in this design-based research, 24 teachers were involved in adaptation of a learning environment supporting inquiry in the outdoors that included the use of mobile technologies. They first experienced the learning environment as learners, then adapted it for their own use, and finally, enacted the adapted environment with peers. We examined the scope and character of teacher involvement in adaptation, and the consequent professional growth, by analyzing observations, questionnaires, interviews and the adapted learning-environments. Findings indicate that all teachers demonstrated change processes, including changes in knowledge and practice, but the coherence of the learning environments decreased when substantial adaptations were made. Some teachers demonstrated professional growth, as reflected by their implementation of ideas learned in the PD program in their daily practice, long after the PD program had ended. This study demonstrates how the Teachers as Designers approach can support teacher learning and illustrates productive use of scaffolds for teacher growth and professional development.

There is developing interest in how professional identity can support educational leaders’ management of change. This article explores the conceptualisation and interplay of identity formation with adaptive and contingent forms of educational leadership. The article draws on qualitative data obtained from two New Zealand school principals and significant others, as each principal negotiated their way through the beginnings of a second principalship and associated change processes. Findings from this first year of a three-year study identified influential factors within each principal’s personal, and professional identities. A comparison of findings with the respective literatures revealed a potential fusion between identity formation and concepts within the broad fields of adaptive and values-based contingency leadership.

Résumé :
This study explored communications between the people involved in the design of home adaptations, including clients and carers, occupational therapists, surveyors and builders. The aims were to explore (i) what constituted good communication in this context and (ii) how communication occurred. One London borough was selected as a case study. All participants lived or worked within the borough and had been involved in the adaptation process. Nineteen individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with six clients, four occupational therapists, six grant surveyors and three builders. The findings suggest that the professionals constituted a ‘community of practice’ (Wenger 1998) within which communication was good. The professionals used plan drawings to support communication between them. However, the study found that client involvement in the design was limited and that plan drawings were not effective tools in communication with them. The clients relied on the occupational therapist to represent their interests in the design process. Occupational therapists' communication with clients on the design of adaptations may be enhanced by the development and use of more sophisticated visualisation tools to replace the plan drawings. This would enable clients to become more engaged in the adaptations process.

Résumé :
The article deals with the need to analyze social and professional adaptation under digital transformation in the labour market and the renewal of various professional activities resulted in developing new technology. The first part of the article considers the conceptual approaches to understanding the features of social and professional adaptation as an independent phenomenon, which have required the integration of conceptual developments in various branches of socio-humanitarian knowledge: sociology of adaptation, sociology of professions and social psychology. Based on the conceptual ideas presented, there defined social and professional adaptation, which is the inclusion of an actor in his profession through the formation of professional identity within the development of a professional role. This definition contains references to reconciling the internal needs of an actor in his professional self-realization and requiring the professional environment, which enunciates the interaction among the parties of adaptive relations in their professional sphere. Taking into account the adaptation situation, the features of social and professional adaptation are locally and globally analyzed and a clarification is made in the interpretation of «labour adaptation», which is similar in its content. The second part of the work enunciates the subjective and objective indicators of social and professional adaptation in the context of structural operationalization, which allows us to empirically study this phenomenon. The subjective indicators of social and professional adaptation are distinguished on the basis of an interpretive approach, according to which the effectiveness of adaptation should be studied through the self-assessment of an adaptor’s satisfaction with various aspects of his professional self-realization. The objective criteria of social and professional adaptation indentify the behavioural performance of an adaptation actor, which can acquire active and passive forms. The article introduces the general characteristics of methodological approaches to the analysis of social and professional adaptation in quantitative and qualitative research. The results are planned to be used in the future for a sociological study based on the developed conceptual and methodological framework.

Résumé :
The purpose of this study is to examine in depth the lives of visually impaired professional musicians via the life history method. The researcher conducted in-depth interviews with eight visually impaired professional musicians. The data analysis considered three facets of life history proposed by Mandelbaum: dimensions, turning points, and adaptations. The dimensions of life (families, schools, private music teachers, and performance groups) were analysed first. The turning points of life involve accepting and overcoming an impairment and choosing to major in music. Adaptations to life involve persevering in a harsh social environment, living as an impaired musician, aspiring to a successful career as a professional musician, and learning from vigorous musical activities. Most participants suggested that families and performance groups are the most important dimensions of their lives. With respect to turning points, choosing to major in music has enabled the participants to accept and overcome the difficulties associated with being visually impaired. Through adaptation, the participants appear to have found their value, role, and meaning both as members of society and as professional musicians. This implies both the importance of expanding performing opportunities for visually impaired musicians and the importance of acknowledging their professional activities, affording visually impaired musicians better livelihoods by offering them more fulfilling roles in the field of music along with significant, long-term public support.

Résumé :
The article indicates the relevance of the study on the adaptation problem of pedagogical universities graduates to their professional activities. The approaches that can allow to defne the adaptation success criteria of pedagogical high schools graduates are highlighted. There are also presented the indicators of teachers’ adaptation success to their professional activity in the preschool educational organizations. The existing organizational methods for teachers’ adaptation psychological support to the professional activity and its methodological problems are considered, and a solution method of psychological support problems, based on the usage of adaptation potential of personality concept is offered. There was conducted a comparative analyses of the professional activity adaptation features. The carried out analyses involved tutors who had participated in the generalized model of multilevel adaptation support system and teachers of preschool organizations whose adaptation had spontaneous character. This has justifed the implementation of an innovative multi-level adaptation support system model: the experiment helped the tutors to form internal determinants of professional development through the relationship of internal motives and adaptation as a whole. The article describes the results of the multi-level adaptation support system model practical implementation and thus created a psychological basis for professional development willingness and provided an improved way of the objective assessment of the teachers’ successful adaptation to the profession: the actualization and mobilization of adaptive potential within the professional refexive environment, which allows to understand and determine the development strategy of professional prospects, to form an adequate level of the teaching profession self-image, and to organize one’s professional activity which would be focused on the knowledge of personal constructs and self-development. Successful adaptation to the professional activity is the key to the further development of each teacher both as a personality and as a specialist.

AbstractIntroductionVery Brief Advice (VBA) on smoking is an evidence-based intervention and a recommended clinical practice for all healthcare professionals in the UK.AimsWe report on experience from the FRESH AIR project in adapting the VBA model and training in three low-resource settings: Greece, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan.MethodsUsing a participatory research process, UK experts and local stakeholders conducted an environmental scan and needs assessment to examine the VBA intervention model, training materials and recommend adaptations to the local context. Two VBA training sessions were piloted in each country to inform adaptation. A final training tool kit was developed in the local language.ResultsIn each country, the VBA on smoking intervention model remained primarily intact. The lack of a formal smoking cessation system to refer motivated clients in two countries required adaptation of the ACT component of the model. A range of local adaptations to the training resources were made in all three countries to ensure cultural appropriateness as well as enhance key messages including expanding training on nicotine addiction, second-hand smoke and pharmacotherapy.ConclusionsImplementation of VBA requires sensitive, collaborative, local and cultural adaptation if it is to be achieved successfully.Trial registrationTrial ID# NTR5759Critical appraisal toolsThe Standards for Reporting Implementation Studies (StaRI) statement: https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/stari-statement/

Digitalization and cognitization of modern business processes forms a qualitatively new request for modeling innovatively-oriented concepts for the development of education and consolidated forms of interaction between all participants in the labor market: educational service providers, the business community, graduates and the state, whose goal is unified and associated with effective employment of young specialists, who are the main strategic resource of the modern socio-economic system. However, with a seemingly common interest, for many years young specialists have been the most unprotected category in the labor market. Lack of practical skills and work experience, the need for additional investment in the formation of the so-called “applied competencies” makes the professional development strategies of graduates vulnerable and uncompetitive. In this regard, the article conducted a study on the conformity and consistency of professional requests of labor market participants to the competencies of young professionals in order to combine efforts for their faster adaptation and development in the labor market.
