Résumé :
Darwinian evolution, defined as evolution arising from selection based directly on the properties of individuals, does not account for cultural constructs providing the organizational basis of human societies. The difficulty with linking Darwinian evolution to structural properties of cultural constructs is exemplified with kinship terminologies, a cultural construct that structures and delineates the domain of kin in human societies.

Based on the measured CCT diagram of steel S34MnV, the parameters for the heat treatment of large marine crankthrow were designed, and the models for predicting microstructural evolution and mechanical properties were developed. By computer simulation, the temperature and phase volume evolutions in the controlled cooling process were predicted together with the final mechanical properties. Finally, the manufactural trial was carried out in heavy plant, the temperature evolution and final mechanical properties on the blank were obtained. Study on the intrinsic properties and evolutional mechanism of urban public transit networks (PTNs) has great significance for transit planning and control, particularly considering passengers’ dynamic behaviors. This paper presents an empirical analysis for exploring the complex properties of Beijing’s weighted bus transit network (BTN) based on passenger flow in L-space, and proposes a bi-level evolution model to simulate the development of transit routes from the view of complex network. The model is an iterative process that is driven by passengers’ travel demands and dual-controlled inter

AbstractQuality control in heat treatment of steel is often conducted after the treatment. Failure to confine within the specified range of mechanical properties may lead to wasted energy and production resources. Performing quality control in-line in the heat treatment process allows for early detection and possibility to react to changes in the process. The prospects of utilizing the change in the electromagnetic (EM) properties of steel, as means for quality control, are investigated in this paper. The focus is on the tempering process of hardened SS2244 (42CrMoS4) steel. The tempering take

The hygric characterisation of authentic rammed earth materials is presented. Since these materials expand and liquefy upon contact with moisture, currently available methods are adapted to deal with this material evolution during the tests. In particular a thin permeable wick is introduced in the capillary absorption test. Moreover, confined and unconfined ways of testing are addressed. The results show that both the material origin and the material evolution can significantly impact the hygric properties.

AbstractThis paper presents a brief review and latest results of the work that has been carried out by the Planetary Science community in order to understand the role of the geotechnical properties of granular asteroids (commonly known as “rubble-pile” asteroids) in their formation, evolution and possible disruption. As such, we will touch in aspects of the theoretical and numerical tools that have been used with this objective and how the obtained results compare to the observed asteroids.

Discovered in 1883, laccase is one of the first enzymes ever described. Now, after almost 140 years of research, it seems that this copper-containing protein with a number of unique catalytic properties is widely distributed across all kingdoms of life. Laccase belongs to the superfamily of multicopper oxidases (MCOs)—a group of enzymes comprising many proteins with different substrate specificities and diverse biological functions. The presence of cupredoxin-like domains allows all MCOs to reduce oxygen to water without producing harmful byproducts. This review describes structural characteri

This paper reviews the properties and evolutionary status of white dwarf stars, focusing most closely on those aspects which are likely to be of significance to understanding the ultimate fate of planetary nebulae and their central stars. White dwarf stars show a broad variety of chemical compositions. Broadly speaking, they are divided into the DA stars (with H-rich photospheres) and the non-DA stars (with He-rich photospheres), though there are a fairly large number of subtypes. The mass distribution of white dwarf stars is quite narrow, with a mean value near 0.6 and with extremes at 0.43 a

They occupy very diverse ecological niches, and may have been the first organisms to carry out C4 photosynthesis. Their frustrules (silica enclosures) with their elaborate sculpturing make it possible to follow the occurence of different forms back in time, and the frustrules is also the main reason that they
