Objective: A limitation of the central cancer registries to examine associations between mammography use and cancer diagnosis is their lack of cancer screening history. To fill this measurement gap, Rhode Island Cancer Registry (RICR) breast cancer (BC) records were linked to Rhode Island-all-payer claims database (RI-APCD) to study Rhode Island (RI) women's regular mammography use and identify its predictors. Methods: From the linked 2011-2019 data, we identified 4 study cohorts: (1) women who ever received mammography by Women's Cancer Screening Program (WCSP) and were diagnosed with BC (“WC

Abstract Background: Tumor tissue DNA methylation has been proposed as a potential biomarker for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) response. However, less is known about blood DNA methylation as a potential biomarker for ICI treatment related outcomes in recurrent/metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC). Objective: Investigate associations of pre-treatment blood-derived DNA methylation profiles with survival and response outcomes among patients with R/M HNSCC who receive ICI therapy. Methods: Patients with R/M HNSCC were recruited from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,

Abstract Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) can occur in the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, paranasal sinuses, and nasal cavity. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have improved survival in multiple cancer types, including recurrent/metastatic (R/M) HNSCC. However, the majority of patients with R/M HNSCC did not achieve objective response with ICI in clinical trials. Abstract Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer (31%) and the leading cause of cancer death (19%) among women in Puerto Rico. The United States Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) recommends biennial breast cancer screening by mammography for women aged 40-74. Evidence has documented that Community Health Workers (CHWs) can help increase breast cancer screening rates and improve health equity through community-based approaches. Objective: The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a CHW-delivered intervention to increase mammography screening among non-adherent

Per- square mile, Puerto Rico has a high density of contaminated sites, including the designation of 19 superfund sites by the Environmental Protection Agency across the archipelago. Understanding how living within proximity to superfund sites can help recognize communities that are at greater health risks, such as increased cancer risks. Restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly reversed the slow decline of the diagnosis and mortality rates of gastric cancer (GC). This scenario highlights the importance of developing cost-effective methods for mass screening and evaluation of treatment response. In this study, we evaluated a non-invasive method based on the circulating methylated cell-free DNA (cfDNA) of Reprimo (RPRM), a tumor suppressor gene associated with the development of GC. Methylated RPRM cfDNA was analyzed in three de-identified cohorts: Cohort 1 comprised 81 participants with GC and 137 healthy dono

Introduction: Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a low platelet count and an increased risk of bleeding in the absence of another cause. It is caused due to the production of antibodies against platelet surface antigens. ITP is associated with several complications including intracerebral hemorrhage, and thus it becomes essential to determine trends and disparities in mortality of patients with ITP to identify vulnerable populations.
