A disabling condition in old age is poor cognitive function (CF), which affects more than 16 million people in the United States. Research has correlated oxidative stress with poor CF, and antioxidants have been suggested as a means to counteract this impact, although there are inconsistencies in the literature. Guided by the oxidative stress theory of aging, the purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between blood serum antioxidant levels and CF in participants aged 60 and older. Seventeen males participated in an investigation comparing the effects of a three meal per day feeding pattern versus a six meal per day feeding pattern on a serum lipid profile. During a two week acclimation period three meals per day were consumed by all subjects. The subjects were then divided into two groups. Group I consumed three meals per day for six weeks while group II consumed six meals per day for the same amount of time. The two groups then reversed feeding patterns for an additional six week period. Subjects completed five four-day food records which were analyzed qualitatively. T

Human alkaline phosphatase (ALP) comprises four isozymes, viz liver/bone/ kidney or tissue unspecific (AP), intestinal (LAP), placental (PLAP) and germ cell or PLAP-like alkaline phosphatase, with their main expression in specific tissues as indicated by their names. The isozymes are coded by different genes, but they are closely related, with more than 50% amino acid sequence homologies. Their biological function is unclear. In certain malignant and benign diseases, serum elevations of one or more of the isozymes occur, which is of diagnostic importance. In this study, the special expression
