The variability of some reproductive characters in sugar beet, to be more exact the phyllotaxis characters was investigated. Flowers (and fruits) on the sugar beet floral shoot are arranged spirally. One of the phyllotaxis characters is a distribution of the number of spirals in the shoot. This character is subject to the normal distribution law. The same kind of distribution is typical for other reproductive characteristics in sugar beet (number of fruits on the shoot, length of shoot). The spiral number per length unit on the floral shoot are also obeying to the normal distribution and varyin

Résumé :
Cymbopogon schoenanthus subsp. proximus is a medicinal grass, the source of sesquiterpene proximadiol and is well known in folk medicine as renal antispasmodic. The effect of growth regulators, different sugar types, methyl jasmonate and vitamins on de novo organogenesis from seed cultures was studied. Among different concentrations of NAA and BA, 4 mg/l NAA in combination with 0.5 mg/l BA produced 100% callus induction. Both 1.0 and 4.0 mg/l NAA in combination with 0.5 mg/l BA yielded the highest number of shoots. High concentration of sucrose 6% was efficient in root induction from organogen

To identify genes involved in meristem function we have designed a screen for temperature-sensitive mutations that cause a conditional arrest of early shoot development in Arabidopsis. We describe the characterization of three mutations, arrested development (add) 1, 2 and 3. At the restrictive temperature the add1 and add2 mutations disrupt apical meristem function as assayed by leaf initiation. Furthermore, add1 and add2 plants exhibit defects in leaf morphogenesis following upshift from permissive to restrictive temperature. This result suggests that proximity to a functional meristem is re

As part of a program to develop transgenic highbush blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) cultivars, studies were conducted to determine optimum conditions for high efficiency shoot regeneration from leaf explants of in vitro-propagated shoot cultures. The effect of either thidiazuron at 1 or 5 μM, or zeatin riboside at 20 μM, and two lit levels (18 ± 5 or 55 ± 5 μmol·m-2·s-1) on shoot organogenesis were investigated. Abstract. The purpose is to identify infradian rhythms in the seasonal dynamics of apical growth of shoots of Salix ‘Bullata’ plants and to establish the features of morphogenesis associated with the existence of endogenous (genetic and hormonal) mechanisms for the occurrence of nonlinear changes, including fluctuations in the growth characteristics of shoots. Methods. A quantitative approach was used to study the dynamics of morphogenesis processes. There was carried out a comparative research of seasonal dynamics of velocities and accelerations of apical and radial growth of Salix ‘Bullata’

The present study was undertaken to study the changes in antioxidative enzymes during in vitro morphogenesis of groundnut from de-embryonated cotyledon explants cultured on Murashige and Skoog?s medium supplemented with 5.0 mg l-1 benzyl-adenine and 2.0 mg l-1 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Résumé :
Cytokinins are involved in plant cell proliferation leading to plant growth and morphogenesis. The size, activity and maintenance of the shoot apical meristem (SAM) are defined by a balanced rate of mitotic cell divisions and functional cell differentiation that are controlled by cytokinins. In order to investigate the effect of exogenous cytokinin on SAM, morpho-anatomical changes in the shoot apices of tobacco treated with benzyladenine (BA) were compared to those of untreated control plants.
