Une étude a été réalisée pour évaluer l’effet de la farine d’épluchures de manioc incorporée dans l’aliment sur les performances zootechniques et économiques du poulet de chair en phase démarrage. Elle a porté sur 240 poussins chair, de souche "Cobb 500" d’un jour d’âge, répartis dans 12 unités expérimentales suivant un dispositif complètement randomisé comportant 4 traitements et 3 répétitions chacun. Il s’agit d’un aliment témoin commercial (T) représentant l’aliment de référence et trois aliments expérimentaux comportant respectivement 0 % (A0), 15 % (A15) et 30 % (A30) de la farine d’épluchures de manioc. Après 21 jours d’élevage, il a été observé qu’aucune différence significative n’a été observée pour les performances de croissance (le poids vif, le gain de poids et le GMQ) entre les poulets du lot témoin (T) et ceux soumis aux traitements A0 et A15. A 30 % de taux d’inclusion de la farine d’épluchures de manioc, une régression des performances de croissance des poussins a été constatée. La consommation alimentaire et l’indice de consommation sont statistiquement identiques pour les traitements T, A0 et A15 respectivement. Par contre, ils augmentent avec 30 % d’inclusion. Les aliments A0 et A15 ont eu les coûts de production du kilogramme de poids vifs les plus bas avec respectivement une différence de 130,94 FCFA/kgPv et de 129,09 FCFA/kgPv comparés à l’aliment de référence (T). Dans les conditions de la présente étude, il a été conclu qu’en phase démarrage, un taux d’inclusion de 15 % de la farine d’épluchures de manioc dans l’aliment permet de produire des poussins de performances zootechniques comparables aux rations A0 et T. ABSTRACT Effect of cassava peels flour on the economic and zootechnical performance of broiler chicken at startup in Côte d'Ivoire A study was carried out to evaluate the effect of cassava peels flour in the feed on the zootechnical and economic performance of the broiler at startup. It related to 240 chicks, of the "Cobb 500" strain of one day of age, distributed in 12 experimental units according to a completely randomized device comprising 4 treatments and 3 repetitions each. It is a commercial control feed (T) representing the reference feed and three experimental feeds respectively comprising 0 (A0), 15 (A15) and 30 % (A30) of the cassava peels flour. After 21 days of breeding, no significant difference in growth performance (body weight, weight gain and GMQ) was observed between the chickens in the control group (T) and those subjected to the treatments A0 and A15. At 30 % inclusion rate of peelings a growth performance depression of the chicks was noted. Feed consumption and consumption index were statistically identical for treatments T, A0 and A15. On the other hand, they increase with 30% inclusion. The treatment A0 and A15 had the lowest production costs per kilogram of live weight with a difference of 130.94 FCFA / kgPv and 129.09 FCFA / kgPv, respectively, relative to the reference feed (T). Under the conditions of the present study, it was concluded that in the start-up phase, an inclusion rate of 15 % of the cassava peel flour in the feed makes it possible to produce chicks of zootechnical performances comparable to the A0 and T rations.

The research method is qualitative because the purpose is trying to understand the startup characteristics. The research object is Indonesia fashion startup companies because it is one of the most promising start ups in Indonesia. Strategy choices are crucial in fashion startups in Indonesia. Objective of this paper is to analyze the strategy that has been used in fashion startups in Indonesia. Most of the startups use intuitive decision making. The result is most fashion startups tend to use intensive strategy because the market is still growing. Intensive market penetration through marketing strategy and related diversification are the two strategies that commonly used in fashion startups in Indonesia.

This research aims to present an overview of startups in the tourism business registered in the database - StartupBase. On this basis, we found startups in the data roadmap, and there are also pre-accelerated startups in the country, incubated within institutions or development companies, still in their initial phase. Besides, other Startups arise from individualized initiatives and end up not being included in the analysis of StartupBase. Thus, in this study, a scenario of data from startups in Brazil is displayed, whether in the following phases: out of operation, traction, ideation and scaleup, which identify the innovations and developed technologies. There was a higher concentration of startups in São Paulo with 65 among the 10 states. Another indicator of the categories identified was that SEBRAE Capital Empreendedor and Troposlab have a larger number with 5 startups and the segment of Events and Tourism has 218 registered startups and, among them, only 24 out of 218 have the badge of badges, which are digital emblems that symbolize competencies and achievements. All these aspects involve a discussion on the importance of startups for the country economy, specifically in the tourism business. The creation of startups is important to the increase of research, knowledge, opportunities for the job creation and mainly for the confrontation of competitiveness in the market

The development of the internet causes the flow of information to move quickly without knowing geographical boundaries. Likewise with the development of the digital industry, although the condition of the digital industry in Indonesia is still in its early phase, where infrastructure and ecosystem support is still very minimal, the optimism from digital industry players in Indonesia is very strong, both from the startup side and from investors. Problems arise when investors, both local and foreign, wish to invest in local digital startups in Indonesia, namely the unpreparedness of local startups to receive relatively large amounts of funding for business development. This raises doubts for investors whether startups can manage the funds raised and generate future profits for investors. Therefore, an initiative was born from investors and stakeholders in the digital technology industry to activate business incubators, with the aim of being able to prepare local startups to be able to develop more optimally. The results of this study reveal various tangible benefits received by local startups to increase their capacity.

<p><em>This paper analyses the influence of the support from the environment, in which students live and work, on the success of student startups. A unique experiment was conducted, in which one group of students was confronted with a network of external specialists and the other group was not confronted with this network. This experiment dealt with the endogeneity problem that is often related with social networks, because this time part of the network was externally delivered to the startups involved in the experiment. The experiment also delivered data from which we can conclude that student startups in a more traditional market profit more from a dense network than from a network with structural holes in the first six months after starting their businesses. Student startups that started in less developed markets seemed to profit more from structural holes in this startup phase. In both cases there was no significant evidence that a network with structural holes contributed to a higher performance of student startups in their first six months. This paper ends with recommendations for universities how to help their student startups to succeed better within the educational system.</em></p>

Le miel est un produit qui renferme des propriétés nutritives susceptibles de stimuler les performances zootechniques des volailles. L’objectif de cette étude était de déterminer le taux d’incorporation optimal du miel dans les rations des poulets de chair. Un échantillon de 105 poussins de chair a été réparti en trois lots de 35 sujets (témoin, traité 1 et traité 2).Chaque lot a été ensuite subdivisé en 5 répétitions de 7 sujets chacun. Les lots traités 1 et 2 ont reçu des doses du miel dans la ration alimentaire respectivement au démarrage 0,5% et 1%, en croissance 1% et 2% et en finition 1% et 4%. Le premier lot a servi de témoin. Les lots ont été comparés sur les variables de la croissance pondérale. Les résultats ont montré au cours de la phase de démarrage une amélioration significative (P < 0,05) de la consommation volontaire des aliments (30,5 g contre 34,8 g), du GMQ (22,7 g/jour contre 23,4 g/ jour), l’IC (1,3 contre 1,4) et le poids vif à 14 jours (359g contre 377 g). Par contre au cours de la phase de croissance, aucune différence significative n’a été notée dans la ration contenant 1% de miel. En revanche pendant la phase de finition, une amélioration significative a été observée sur tous les paramètres étudiés. Cette étude suggère l’utilisation du miel à la dose de 0,5% pendant les phases de démarrage et de croissance et à 1% au cours de la phase de finition.
Honey is a natural bee product containing nutritional properties able to stimulate the performance of poultry. The study aimed to determine the optimal rate of honey in the diets of broiler. A sample of 105 chicks has been randomized and then divided into three groups of 35 chicks each (One control and two treated groups). Then each group was then divided in 5 replicates of 7 chicks. The treated groups received doses of honey at the starting 0.5% and 1%, in growing 1% and 2% finally in finishing stage 1% and 4% respectively. Groups were compared on the growth parameters. The results showed that during the starting stage, a significant improvement (P < 0.05) was observed on feed intake (30.5g vs 34.8g), DWG (22.7g per day vs 23.4g per day), feed efficiency (1.3 vs 1.4) and body live weight (359 vs 377g at 14 days). However, during the growing stage, no significant difference was observed on feed containing 1% of honey. Moreover, during the finishing stage, all the studied parameters were improved by honey at 1%. Therefore, the present study indicated the useful of honey at 0.5% during the starting and growing stages while 1% may be used during the finishing stage

AbstractThis study aims to explore the role of social networks in the internationalisation of startups. For this purpose, the social network LinkedIn is used, and two case studies of Portuguese technological startups are employed. The findings indicate that social networks can contribute to the acceleration of the internationalisation process and decrease their costs. Their relevance is greater in the initial phase of the internationalisation process. However, its relevance is limited in more advanced phases of this process. LinkedIn can be used by startups to obtain several benefits such as brand awareness, identification of new opportunities, customer feedback, among others. The results of this study are essentially useful in a practical dimension for companies that plan to start or improve their internationalisation process sustained on social networks.

L’objectif de cette étude a consisté à déterminer les effets de l’incorporation de la fève fumée et décortiquée dans la ration alimentaire sur les performances zootechniques et le rendement en carcasse du poulet de chair. Ainsi, 250 poussins de souche Hubbard S15 âgés de 1 jour ont été répartis équitablement en quatre lots en fonction du taux de substitution de la fève par le tourteau de soja (0, 20, 40, 60 et 96 %) pendant 48 jours. Durant les phases de démarrage et de croissance, les performances pondérales et les quantités d’aliment ingérées ont diminué proportionnellement avec l’incorporation croissante en fève. Le remplacement des protéines du tourteau de soja (à 44,76% de MAT) par de la fève (à 25,06 % de MAT) a entraîné une chute des performances durant le démarrage et la croissance, tandis qu’en phase de finition, le poids vif des poulets ayant reçu 20% de fève a été statistiquement similaire à celui du lot témoin. Pour des taux de substitution de 20 et 40% de fève, les indices de consommation ont été statistiquement similaires à ceux du lot témoin, tandis que le rendement en carcasse s’est amélioré avec l’accroissement du taux de fève dans la ration. Ces résultats montrent que la fève fumée et décortiquée incorporée dans la ration à raison de 20 % donne de bonnes performances pondérales à moindre coût, il serait néanmoins intéressant de l’incorporer à des niveaux plus élevés tout en y associant une autre source protéique durant les premières phases d’élevage.

Context: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to a turbulent business environment, resulting in market uncertainties, frustrations, and rumors. Wrongly held beliefs—or myths—can hinder startups from turning new market opportunities into their favor (for example, by failing at diversification decisions) or undertaking wrong business decisions, e.g., diversifying in industries that have products of no real market value). Objectives: The objective of the paper is to identify the beliefs that drive the business decisions of startups in a pandemic and to isolate those beliefs that are merely myths. Further, this paper proposes strategic guidelines in the form of a framework to help startups make sound decisions that can lead to market success. Method: The two-step research method involved multiple case studies with five startups based in India, France, Italy, and Switzerland, to identify perceptual beliefs that drove strategic business decisions, followed by a case study of 36 COVID-19-solution focused startups, funded by the European Union (EU). The findings were validated through a survey that involved 102 entrepreneurs. The comparative analysis of two multiple case studies helped identify beliefs that were merely “myths”; myths that drove irrational strategic decisions, resulting in business failures. Results: The results indicate that startups make decisions in pandemic situations that are driven by seven myths, pertaining to human, intellectual, and financial resources. The decision on whether to diversify or continue in the same business operation can be divided into four strategic options of the Competency-Industry Relatedness (C-IR) framework: ignore, delay, phase-in, and diversify. Diversification in the same (or different industry) is less risky for startups if they have the skills, as needed, to diversify in related industries. Diversification in related industries helps startups leverage their experiences and learning curves (those associated with existing product lines) to adapt their existing products in new markets, or utilize their technologies to solve new problems via new products. The desired outcome for these startups should be sustainable business growth—to meet sustainability goals by contributing to the society and the economy. Conclusion: The C-IR framework is a strategic guide for startups to make business decisions based on internal factors, rather than myths. Accurately assessing skill diversity and the nature of new industries (or markets) will help startups leverage their existing resources optimally, without the need for (pricey) external funding. This will foster sustained business growth resulting in a nation economic development. Knowledge transfer from the Innovation ecosystem will further strengthen the C-IR framework effectiveness.

With rising need for innovation within a complex and dynamic world, cooperation between complementary partners offers potential to create competitive advantage. Early-stage start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can exploit opportunities by cooperating early and jointly developing new innovation. Despite research into cooperation between established start-ups and SMEs existing, there is no specific concept or support options for cooperation in an early stage. Intermediaries are named as a helpful support option; however specific tasks are not analysed. This research provides insight into various support options in the context of cooperation between early phase start-ups and the German “Mittelstand”. Within the framework of the Design Research Methodology (DRM) the results of a literature research and qualitative interviews are presented in a Reference and Impact Model, which show the need for support in the cooperation of start-ups and SMEs. Based on the findings, a four-phased cooperation process is proposed, which includes support possibilities in each individual phase. A comprehensive evaluation plan in the context of practical application completes this work. Cette thèse étudie l’effet sur l’innovation entrepreneuriale et les autres acquis d’apprentissage des entreprises qui créent des relations avec des startups en phase de démarrage (dites "early-stage") grâce à l'investissement en capital-risque d'entreprise (Corporate Venture Capital; CVC). Dans la mesure où les startups early-stage ne possèdentpossedent pas encore nécessairement de produits ou services, celles-ci sont souvent considérées comme des cibles d'investissement incertaines en termes de potentiel de performances futures. En dépit de cette affirmation, des preuves empiriques établissent la participation d’un certain nombre d’entreprises à des opérations de CVC early-stage.Dans mon premier essai, j’effectue des recherches pour déterminer si l’augmentation des investissements dans des startups early-stage induit une meilleure performance en termes d’innovation pour les entreprises investisseurs en me basant sur la littérature sur l'apprentissage organisationnel. Je constate que les investissements dans les startups early-stage ont effectivement un effet positif sur l'innovation à court terme des investisseurs. De plus, je trouve que la diversité des investissements en termes d'industries diminue cet effet positif en raison de l’augmentation de la complexité de l'apprentissage organisationnel.Dans mon deuxième essai, j'examine la décision des investisseurs de former des relations exclusives avec des startups early-stage en fonction de la structure de leur équipe CVC. Je me concentre sur l'accès exclusif à des ressources précieuses que les investisseurs peuvent obtenir comme avantage clé en investissant dans ces startups. Je prédis que les équipes de CVC autonomes sont plus susceptibles d'opter pour des liens exclusifs avec des startups early-stage que les équipes de CVC intégrées, car les CVC intégrés sont souvent plus sensibles aux risques et à l'approbation de la direction. Je constate également que si les investisseurs autonomes ont des connaissances plus originales, cela peut réduire leur incitation à établir des liens exclusifs en préférant un large éventail de connaissances plutôt qu'une appropriation effective de certains pools de connaissance.Dans mon troisième essai, j'étudie la relation entre les investissements CVC et la performance sociale des entreprises (CSP). Je théorise que l'expérience accumulée à travers l'obtention de ressources auprès de ces startups peut contribuer à l'élévation de la réputation sociale des investisseurs grâce au développement de leur capacité à comprendre et répondre aux demandes de leurs parties prenantes. As entrepreneurial ventures draw the attention as external sources of valuable knowledge and skills, past literature has investigated how incumbents build inter-organizational relationships with these ventures through CVC investments. Among them, early-stage ventures without a visible product or service are often considered to be uncertain investment targets in terms of their technologies and potential performance. Contrary to this view, empirical evidence shows that number of incumbents are participating in early-stage CVC deals. This raises an intriguing question about what corporate investors can achieve by targeting such ventures with higher uncertainty.In my first essay, I examine whether firms achieve greater innovative performance when increasing their early-stage CVC investments. I theorize an find that early-stage CVC investments indeed increase firms’ short-term innovation even after controlling for total CVC investments and the investment in Independent Venture Capital (IVC)-backed ventures of corporate investors. Furthermore, I find empirical support that greater industry diversity of a firm’s CVC portfolio attenuates this relationship by adding knowledge complexity to organizational learning.In my second essay, focusing on exclusive access to valuable resources as a key advantage of early-stage CVC investments, I theorize that while exclusivity can serve as a strategy for corporate investors to form strong bonds with early-stage ventures, a trade-off exists as information asymmetries arise from the lack of external information to value these ventures as partners. I demonstrate that corporate investors with autonomous CVC units are more likely to opt for exclusive ties with early-stage ventures, as opposed to integrated CVC units, which are more sensitive to risk and managerial consent. In addition, this trend is moderated by the knowledge originality of corporate investors’ existing knowledge stocks.In my third essay, I examine the relationship between CVC investments and Corporate Social Performance (CSP), and propose that certain aspects of CVC investments can lead to positive outcomes from a CSR perspective. Specifically, I focus on early-stage CVC investments, which require resource acquisition under conditions of uncertainty. I theorize how accumulating resources through continuous investments in early-stage ventures can contribute to higher social outcomes. This research suggests that it is not just a single early-stage investment that impacts CSR, but rather the accumulated experience gained through such investments that can be positively associated with external evaluations of CSR

En ces temps de crise économique de grande ampleur, l’intérêt manifesté à la petite entreprise est, aujourd’hui, incontestable. D’ailleurs, en France, l’artisanat et les PME en général ont beaucoup mieux résisté aux conséquences dépressives de cette crise globale que les grandes entreprises. En ce sens, le tissu des petites entreprises locales joue un rôle de régulation économique, sociale et territoriale. Cependant, les entreprises de petite taille, lors de leur émergence et de leur évolution, se heurtent à des difficultés qui leur sont propres (financement et ressources humaines). Cette thèse se propose de jeter un regard particulièrement sur la phase cruciale de leur démarrage. Pour ce faire, elle déploie une méthodologie de recherche mettant en interactivité deux postes d’observation, l’un théorique (chapitres 1, 2 et 3), l’autre empirique (chapitre 4). La démarche adoptée passe en revue la littérature concernant la création et l’évolution des petites entreprises en isolant leurs spécificités afin de mieux identifier, le plus exactement possible, leurs besoins et la manière d’y répondre par une pédagogie d’accompagnement réfléchie. Ce débat théorique permet à cette thèse de capitaliser aux plans des théories de la firme (théorie des contrats, théorie évolutionniste, théorie des systèmes, théorie du site et du capital social) et des processus les plus en jeu en matière d’accompagnement (confiance, écoute, proximité, réseau, coordination, diagnostic partagé, apprentissage, capital humain, transmission de savoirs etc. ). Ainsi, cette thèse nous fait découvrir un univers complexe, donc interactif, entre les petites entreprises en phase de démarrage et les institutions d’accompagnement (bureau de conseil, association, universités, banques, organismes publics etc. ). C’est à l’intérieur de ce spectre mouvementé qu’est menée une étude empirique (chapitre 4) assez fine sur un échantillon de créateurs d’entreprises du Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Cette approche inductive vient corroborer les conclusions théoriques (chapitres 1, 2 et 3) sur l’importance des représentations et des perceptions des entrepreneurs concernés par l’accompagnement des entreprises, ici, discuté. Ce qui, du même coup, laisse entrevoir les résistances, les incompréhensions etc. Pouvant encombrer l’univers de ’accompagnement ainsi que les véritables attentes des petites entreprises en la matière dans ne période aussi critique que celle de leur démarrage. Au total, cette thèse conclut par la nécessité d’une évaluation, sur la base de l’enquête menée, des institutions d’accompagnement dont l’efficacité renvoie à un ensemble de compétences qu’elles devraient acquérir pour mieux réussir leur mission. Dans ce travail, l'auteur presente differentes techniques d'identification des parametres electriques de la machine asynchrone alimentee par un onduleur de tension. Les nombreuses contraintes materielles liees a l'implantation de ces techniques sur un variateur de vitesse industriel l'ont amene a adopter des strategies d'identification bien specifiques. Ces techniques doivent pouvoir etre directement implantees sur le materiel existant et doivent allier precision, robustesse et fiabilite. Dans un premier temps, l'auteur a concu un ensemble de methodes d'identification utilisees machine a l'arret permettant d'autocalibrer le variateur de vitesse avant le demarrage. Par autocalibration, on entend reglage des parametres de commande a partir des parametres electriques identifies a l'arret. Ensuite, des methodes permettant d'ajuster les parametres electriques de la machine asynchrone en cours de fonctionnement sont presentees. Les techniques retenues sont principalement basees, d'une part, sur l'application des moindres carres recursifs, et d'autre part sur l'analyse temporelle et frequentielle du systeme. Today’s economy of the European Union is statistically proven to be largely made up of startup enterprises. Startups, that has been and will be an essential part of the economy, be it present or future. However, it is a well-known fact that startup failure rates are quite high, both in the economy as a whole as well as the restaurant industry which is of focus in this paper. Therefore, there is a pressing need among both scholars and entrepreneurs to figure out how to reduce the micro-enterprise startup failure rates. It is why; this paper was written with the purpose of studying the components of a traditional business plan model, to look for gaps and parts that are worth developing more. Primary concern was to find out the necessary steps a startup must take in the business plan to better avoid financial failure in the pre-established startup period – which is over 42 months. Therefore the following research question was posed: “How can the components of the traditional business plan be adapted or complemented by contemporary research, and, entrepreneurs’ views and experiences in order to better avoid financial failure of a micro-enterprise start-up within the European restaurant industry?” In order to answer this question a qualitative study was done; contemporary research was reviewed and compared with primarily collected data which was gathered by conducting semi-structured interviews with managers and employees of restaurants. The abductive approach allowed the authors to “enrich” the established theories used. It was made clear that two prominent gaps were found in the traditional business plan models; networking and a red-thread strategy. The first gap, networking, includes the need to establish a “network identity” within the network that the startup operates in, and to plan how the network that the business operates in can be used, as well as clearly state what purposes and benefits it provides. The second gap, red-thread strategy, emphasizes the need of a strong overall focus on the desired goals and visions of the organization in order for it to better operate and function, and specifically, how it is to be implemented to permeate throughout daily operations. It is to make the operational inferences of the vision clear, and how the startup will ensure that the aim will stay the same through their day-to-day operations. To conclude, it was found that by allegedly filling up those two gaps by including them in detail in the business plan, the startup could have a bigger chance of avoiding financial failure within the startup period.

This thesis focuses on the application of model predictive control approaches to optimize the combined cycle power plants start-ups. Generally, the optimization of start-up is a very problematic issue that poses significant challenges. The development of the proposed approaches is progressive. In the first part a physical model of plant is developed and adapted to optimization purposes, by using a methodology which transforms Modelica model components into optimization-oriented models. By applying this methodology, a library suitable for optimization purposes has been built.In the second part, based on the developed model, an optimization procedure to improve the performances of the start-up phases is suggested. The proposed solution optimizes, in continuous time, the load profile of the turbines, by seeking in specific sets of functions. The optimal profile is derived by considering that this profile can be described by a parameterized function whose parameters are computed by solving a constrained optimal control problem. In the last part, the open-loop optimization procedure has been integrated into a receding horizon control strategy. This strategy represents a robust solution against perturbation and models errors, and enables to improve the trade-off between computation time and optimality of the solution. Nevertheless, the control approach leads to a significant computation time. In order to obtain real-time implementable results, a hierarchical model predictive control structure with two layers, working at different time scales and over different prediction horizons, has been proposed.

Des lacunes dans la représentation des processus physiques par un modèle atmosphérique peuvent avoir un impact sur le réalisme du climat simulé ainsi que sur sa variabilité. Il a été observé assez souvent que les climats simulés par les modèles diffèrent largement de celui réellement observé dû à la présence de biais. La qualité de la représentation des processus physiques peut être évaluée par l'équilibre entre ces processus dans les premiers instants d'une intégration utilisant comme conditions initiales une analyse. Cette dernière est réputée bien équilibrée car représentant l'état réel de l'atmosphère. Des déséquilibres entre ces processus sont un signe de défaillances du modèle quant à leur représentation. Des diagnostics sont donc nécessaires pour vérifier si les ajustements dans les paramétrisations des différents processus physiques et dynamiques tendent vers un état de l'atmosphère proche des observations. Les diagnostics utilisés sont ceux proposés par Rodwell et Palmer (2007). Ils sont basés sur les tendances systématiques initiales d'un modèle lorsque des analyses sont utilisées comme conditions initiales. Ces tendances déterminées pour les premiers instants de l'intégration sont équivalentes à l'incrément d'analyse moyen obtenu par un ensemble de cycles d'assimilation. Ce dernier, moyenné temporellement devrait être nul. Par conséquent, ces diagnostics peuvent apporter des informations très utiles sur la cohérence des processus physiques pendant que le modèle tend à retourner vers sa propre climatologie lors des premiers instants de l'intégration. D'autre part, il est bien connu que les analyses, elles-mêmes, engendrent des problèmes de spin-up et requièrent entre autres l'utilisation d'une initialisation aux modes normaux ou l'application d'un filtre digital pour supprimer les ondes de gravité artificielles. Dans leur étude, Gauthier et Thépaut (2001) ont montré que les analyses 4D-Var produisent des conditions initiales mieux équilibrées et ne nécessitent pas l'application de contraintes pour maintenir cet équilibre. Dans cette étude, en utilisant un modèle global très similaire à celui utilisé pour produire les analyses, il a été montré que la différence de l'impact sur les diagnostics des tendances initiales était significative dans les tropiques selon qu'on utilise des analyses 3D-Var ou 4D-Var. Cet impact est surtout observé dans l'activité convective de la zone de convergence inter-tropicale (ZCIT). On notera qu'une analyse vise à se rapprocher des observations sous la contrainte de demeurer près d'une ébauche obtenue d'une prévision à courte échéance produite par un modèle de prévision numérique. Ce dernier constitue une composante primordiale dans le système d'assimilation. D'autres expériences utilisant des systèmes d'assimilation différents ont montré, à travers ces diagnostics, que le modèle était très sensible aux conditions initiales utilisées. Finalement, ces diagnostics ont été évalués pour le modèle régional canadien du climat (MRCC) intégré sur la région de l'Amérique du nord avec les mêmes paramétrages que ceux utilisés dans le modèle global. Ces intégrations sont effectuées en utilisant des conditions initiales et aux bords provenant de deux systèmes d'assimilation différents. Les résultats ont montré de nettes différences indiquant que le modèle est mieux équilibré lorsque l'analyse et les conditions aux bords proviennent du système d'assimilation dans lequel le modèle utilisé est similaire à celui employé dans l'intégration.

La contribution significative des petites entreprises au développement économique fait consensus. Par contre, leur taux d'échec très élevé, principalement au cours de leurs premières années d'existence, inquiète les intervenants économiques et les chercheurs. Selon certains chercheurs, ces hauts taux d'échec seraient attribuables au fait que les nombreux problèmes auxquels doivent faire face les dirigeants des petites entreprises ne sont pas solutionnés efficacement. Afin d'orienter les recherches de solutions, il est essentiel de bien connaître les problèmes les plus susceptibles d'être rencontrés. Plusieurs auteurs sont d'avis que les problèmes peuvent varier en fonction de la phase de développement de l'entreprise. Quelques-uns ont même démontré la prédominance de certains problèmes lors d'une phase particulière par rapport aux autres phases de développement. Nous avons, par conséquent, privilégié l'étude distincte des problèmes spécifiques aux deux premières phases de développement des entreprises.
Cette recherche vise donc l'identification des problèmes vécus, par les entrepreneurs du Québec, lors des phases de prédémarrage et de démarrage, de leur petite entreprise de services. Une analyse synthèse des divers travaux portant sur les problèmes des petites entreprises a été réalisée afin de connaître les principaux problèmes mis en lumière par ces nombreuses études. La consultation de ces travaux, impliquant des éléments méthodologiques très différents, a inspiré l'élaboration du modèle d'enquête à réaliser. Cette enquête a été menée à l'automne 1994, auprès d'une quarantaine de propriétaires-dirigeants de petites entreprises comptant en moyenne trois années d'opérations. L'instrument de recherche, un questionnaire de type fermé, a servi à recueillir des informations relatives à la présence, à l'importance ainsi qu'aux principales causes fondamentales des problèmes vécus lors de la phase de prédémarrage, puis de ceux qui sont vécus lors de la phase de démarrage.
L'utilisation de statistiques descriptives a conduit à l'identification de vingt et un problèmes assez présents et importants lors de la phase de prédémarrage. Ces problèmes relèvent principalement des fonctions du marketing, du management et de la finance - comptabilité. Parmi ces problèmes, quatre se distinguent au niveau de l'importance (prédominance): l'obtention du financement, le recrutement de clients à l'avance, la compréhension des lois et la lenteur et la paperasserie gouvernementale. Afin d'expliquer les problèmes identifiés, les entrepreneurs interviewés ont surtout désigné le manque d'expérience comme cause fondamentale. Deux autres causes ressortent: l'accès difficile à l'information et le manque de ressources financières.
Concernant la phase de démarrage, le nombre de problèmes identifiés, en se basant sur un niveau de présence et d'importance assez élevé, est de trente-cinq. A ce stade, les problèmes relèvent principalement de quatre fonctions, les trois mêmes qu'au cours du prédémarrage auxquelles s'ajoute la fonction production (opérations). Lors du démarrage, seulement deux problèmes se distinguent (prédominent): la gestion du temps et le manque de temps pour la vie familiale. Le manque d'expérience demeure la principale explication, de la majorité des problèmes vécus lors de cette phase. Le manque de ressources financières ainsi que le manque de temps ressortent aussi comme importantes causes fondamentales.
Il semble y avoir une certaine cohérence entre les résultats de cette recherche et ceux provenant de la littérature consultée. De plus, cette recherche fait ressortir quelques problèmes, spécifiques aux phases de développement étudiées, qui n'avaient pas été identifiés dans les recherches analysées. Il s'agit principalement de problèmes personnels vécus par les propriétaires-dirigeants en rapport avec l'entreprise, de problèmes de compréhension des lois, de définition des objectifs et de mise en place des équipements nécessaires. De plus, l'examen des différentes causes fondamentales identifiées par les répondants, a permis une meilleure compréhension des problèmes. Finalement, l'étude distincte des deux phases de développement a permis de constater qu'un nombre important de problèmes identifiés lors du prédémarrage semblent persister lors du démarrage.
Malgré ses limites, cette recherche a permis de mieux connaître les problèmes vécus dans les petites entreprises de services du Québec. Puisque les résultats obtenus désignent les principaux aspects problématiques de la création et du démarrage des entreprises de services, ils pourront orienter les interventions futures auprès des entrepreneurs.

Notre mémoire aborde la problématique des petites entreprises en phase de démarrage, sous l'angle du management stratégique. Notre étude s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une recherche-action et s'inspire de la méthodologie des systèmes souples de Peter B. Checkland. Ainsi, nous considérons que la méthodologie des systèmes souples de Checkland, nous a bien servis dans notre recherche. Premièrement, elle permettait de laisser une grande place aux personnes impliquées dans le diagnostic et elle facilitait le consensus. Deuxièmement, son impact s'est avéré très positif pour améliorer la santé globale de l'entreprise et pour assurer le développement de l'autonomie des propriétaires a gérer leur entreprise de façon plus efficace et globale.
Notre quête des facteurs qui permettent d'éclairer la problématique de ces petites entreprises, s'appuie sur l'hypothèse que: les marchés en croissance compliquent la tâche quotidienne de leurs gestionnaires car ils les obligent
à réévaluer régulièrement leur stratégie pour tenir compte d'un environnement turbulent et de leurs ressources limitées. Cette hypothèse a été vérifiée en majeure partie au cours du diagnostic organisationnel que nous avons réalisé auprès d'une jeune entreprise outaouaise de conception et de production
audiovisuelle, Imagem.
Dans l'ensemble, notre recherche nous permet de croire que la problématique des petites entreprises en phase de démarrage, se situe d'abord au niveau d'une "quasi inexistence" de ressources humaines compétentes en gestion. Cette réalité se traduit entre autres: par une méconnaissance des principes de base du management; une forte concentration du temps du gestionnaire dans la prise de décisions de nature tactique et l'accomplissement d'activités quotidiennes, au détriment de décisions de nature stratégique et d'activités de planification; une difficulté pour le gestionnaire à analyser un problème dans son ensemble; etc. De plus, nous constatons la faible marge de manoeuvre financière de la petite entreprise et de son ou ses propriétaires.
Le cas de l'entreprise Imagem illustre bien l'ensemble de la problématique. D'une part, le diagnostic nous a permis d'identifier d'importantes difficultés aux niveaux des processus de planification, de production, d'allocation des ressources et de contrôle. D'autre part, il nous apparaissait évident que l'ensemble de ces difficultés présentait un lien étroit avec la "quasi inexistence" de ressources humaines compétentes en gestion et la faible marge de man?uvre financière dont disposait l'entreprise et ses propriétaires pour procéder à des changements en profondeur. Il s'avéra toutefois que ces difficultés présentaient de bonnes chances d'être résolus par la mise sur pied d'un système complet de management stratégique, où on procéderait à un réalignement stratégique assorti de réajustements lors de la mise en ?uvre de la stratégie. Dans les faits, ce système a servi de base de discussion et d'apprentissage pour les propriétaires de l'entreprise. Le plan d'action, issu d'un processus de management stratégique complet et performant, priorisait nécessairement les décisions stratégiques qui permettaient d'améliorer les chances de survie de l'entreprise à court, moyen et long terme.
Finalement, l'importance que nous attachons aux besoins spécifiques à la petite entreprise en phase de démarrage, nous amène à proposer une redéfinition du rôle des nombreux intervenants en entrepreneurship. Les besoins de ce type d'entreprises se situent selon nous, au niveau des services techniques professionnels tels que: préparation d'études de marché et de faisabilité; conseils de base au niveau légal et fiscal; préparation d'un dossier de financement, etc. Ces considérations entraînent donc la nécessité de procéder à une réaffectation des ressources humaines actuelles des intervenants en entrepreneurship vers des activités de soutien technique plutôt que promotionnelles. En outre, le style d'intervention de ces intervenants devra les rendre plus accessibles aux nouveaux entrepreneurs.

Organizations are realizing the importance of social media and social networking sites as a communication channel for their brands. Startups, which are new small ventures, face many challenges to prosper in today's fast-paced economy. This research focuses on the challenge of building brand advocacy against the start-ups' low brand awareness and limited financing capabilities. Brand advocacy is defined as the extent to which consumers recommend the brand to their community. It is mainly characterized by high brand loyalty and strong positive electronic word of mouth. This research aims to explore the drivers of brand advocacy on social media in case of startups. The results of the will serve as the input for the second phase which follows a quantitative approach in which a survey will be undertaken to determine first, the relationship between the variables validated in the first phase and brand advocacy mediated by brand loyalty and electronic word of mouth, and second, test for demographics differences in this relationship.

Commonly-known for their sophisticated and robust results, and some lack of time-to-market orientation, the universities are reviewing their roles to be more competitive in the innovation ecosystems. The actual context is large growing of acceleration programs to promote Open Innovation in startups, as well as traditional corporations, interested in the development of innovation across organisational boundaries. Although recent studies emphasise that startups developed or supported by universities have more expectations of success than non-academic startups, the movement of acceleration programs with an emphasis on open innovation is not always connected to universities and supported for research and development. This fact indicates that there are opportunities to encourage the work of universities with companies and other actors for the development of market-oriented proposals and innovative solutions that cover different fields of knowledge through transdisciplinary research. This study has as main objective to identify practices and impacts of acceleration programs for open innovation and its relationship with Research and Development in universities. This study is conducted in two phases in order to analyse the impacts: the first is a systematic review of the literature to identify state of the art of the studied themes in a combined manner. The second phase of the article consists in study two application cases of acceleration programs at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná. The work aims to analyse the impacts of the open innovation and acceleration programs found in the literature and in the case study in order to identify opportunities for improvement for the programs of acceleration of open innovation which universities propose or participate. The expected result is to provide subsidies for universities to increase their participation and contribution in programs, to accelerate innovation and open innovation, supported by transdisciplinary and excellent research.

Studies about success and unsuccess factors for startups are still relevant due to the dispersion of the literature about it. Additionally, it remains important to understand how some usual tools used by the entrepreneurs could support a better diagnosis of the success conditions in an earlier phase of the business, avoiding or preventing the unsuccess. This study is a work in progress financed by EU under Erasums+ Program and aims to discuss the factors that influence the business entrepreneurial success considering several stages of the business and its maturity. Finally, it also attends to the business plan as an important tool for entrepreneurial success. The chapter organizes contributions attending to the dimensions—entrepreneurial profile, external environment, and managerial process—and presents an agenda about a set of factors in a macro perspective (public policies, infrastructures, etc.) and in a micro perspective (entrepreneurial profile, social and human capital, etc.) that allows a reflection about the success on a different stage of a business.

Partner choice is an important element for any business throughout its lifecycle. It is even more strategic in early startup stages, when the business model is set in the pre-incubation phase.Entrepreneurs are confronted to take decisions on which partners to choose. Those strategic decisions on which partners to commit with, and defining their roles, can be made more or less formally, with the risk of relying on “gut feelings” when there is complex data to be taken in consideration and when there is pressure, constraints, limited resources and no proper methodology for the entrepreneur to base its decision on.Confronted to such a situation, it is interesting to consider building a decision-making support methodology for strategic partner choice for in the business modelling phase of a startup pre-incubation phase. This can offer support to the entrepreneur and make its leadership anchored in more formal approach to decision-making.This research presents a methodological framework that can support early startups, while still in the pre-incubation phase, to select the most suitable strategic business partner(s) and develop, based on that, their business operations, management, development and commercialization models. The methodology offers an initial approach which allows an entrepreneur to make more formal investigation and be assisted in the decision-making process on choosing the partners and defining their roles and contribution in the strategy of the start-up. Specifically, the methodology intends to provide support on selecting the most relevant and feasible data types that need to be collected for the effective partner evaluation and selection. Furthermore, it provides a data collection mechanism and algorithm, a partner evaluation procedure, support on identifying the strategic intend or need from a specific partner, the analysis of the potential partner based on the partnership needs, a scoring tableau based on several parameters per partner selection criteria and finally the calculation of the potential partner’s score. The research conducted evaluated twenty-one potential partners for a VR training startup that intends to operate in the following months and it is currently at the partnerships establishment phase. The partners that have been analyzed derive from eight, related to the start-up, professional sectors, from five countries, and with more than fifty unique activities that cover the fourteen key parameters of the partner evaluation methodology. The paper presents the overall methodological approach in stages and the procedure (steps) of each stage. It indicates the goal setting approach, the evaluation of the partner’s activities, the partner’s evaluation scorecard, the computation of the scoring process and the visualization of the scoring results in tables and charts that create a partner’s evaluation dashboard for effective partners comparison in total or in specific partnership requirements as set in the partnerships strategy and objectives. It must be noted that the proposed methodology is not an optimal tool but more of a heuristic exploratory tool. Further research has been scheduled to be extend the testing of the methodology with more cases, to increase the number of partner evaluation parameters and to link several of the related parameter metrics with sources than can provide more subjective values.

Abstract This is an article condensing some of the thoughts from this years’ panelists and moderator about the venture capital view for technology and innovation. The group has vast experience from operations, field development, innovation and disruptive technology, venture capital, startups and scaleups. There is a huge potential for the oil and gas industry to mould and be part of the charge in the energy transition roadmap. This points squarely at the strengths of the existing energy juggernaut of the O&G industry. whereby our agility, technical prowess and scalability to utilise the offshore environment in the development and utilization of new energy resources. The O&G sector is in a transformative phase, where Efficiency, Sustainability and Carbon Footprint have a significant focus. Efficiency improvements for existing O&G production (improve recovery with lower cost), utilizing sustainable energy resources (e.g. renewables, electrification, energy storage) and carbon neutrality via Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission reductions and Carbon Capture & Underground Storage (CCUS) technologies.

Abstract Interest in supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) cycles has grown significantly in recent years. The peculiar properties of the fluid open unique opportunities but also poses several challenges. Here we aim at narrowing the knowledge gap in operating such plants, leveraging the test experience of a full-scale 5 MW Centrifugal Compressor prototype designed for the sCO2-flex project (H2020 funded program, grant agreement #764690). The test rig replicated a complete recycle loop for the compressor. In addition to validating the compressor’s performances in its design condition, a larger envelope of operation and transients was explored. The paper describes engineering groundwork and design choices regarding: i) transient operation such as pressurized startups and emergency shutdowns; ii) safety relief valves and discharge lines, with possible CO2 solidification; and iii) vibrations due to extremely high density. For all these topics, specific challenges brought by the sCO2 are described. We show the most meaningful results, in excellent agreement with predictions, and discuss key learnings from the test experience. We highlight how important it was to anticipate risks during the design phase and we give recommendations for future installations. We conclude with hints on testing severe off-design conditions, with two-phase flow at compressor suction.

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells are promising candidates for power generation in transportation, portable, and stationary applications due to their high full and partload efficiencies, low operating temperatures, high power densities, fast startups, and potential system robustness. A vital component for this new technology is the bipolar plate since it supplies the fuel and oxidant, removes the products of reaction, collects the current produced, and provides mechanical support for the cells in the stack. However, the bipolar plate adds weight, volume, and cost to the fuel cell. A way to offset this, at least partially and perhaps significantly, would be by improving the bipolar plate flow field layout so that the power density of the cell or stack (parallel cell arrangement) is improved. To that end, this paper proposes an innovative radial flow field design for which a three-dimensional model of the heat, mass, and charge transport and electrochemistry in a single fuel cell has been developed and solved via a finite volume approach. This model is based on the following supposition: steady state, isothermal, single phase, isotropic materials and mass transfer in three directions. Predictions of current density as well as the pressure losses, velocities, and flow field contours are made and presented.

Nowadays, steam turbines in conventional power plants deal with an increasing number of startups due to the high share of fluctuating power input of renewable generation. Thus, the development of new methods for flexibility improvements, such as reduction of the start-up time and its costs, have become more and more important. At the same time, fast start-up and flexible steam turbine operation increase the lifetime consumption and reduce the inspection intervals. One possible option to prevent these negative impacts of a flexible operation is to keep the steam turbine warm during a shut down and a startup. In order to do so, General Electric has developed a concept for warm-keeping respectively pre-warming of a high-pressure (HP) / intermediate-pressure (IP) steam turbine with hot air: After a certain cool-down phase, air is passed through the turbine while the turbine is rotated by the turning engine. The flow and the rotational direction can be inverted to optimize the warming operation. In order to fulfill the requirements of high flexibility in combination with reduced costs and thermal stresses during the start-up, a detailed investigation of the dominant heat transfer effects and the corresponding flow structure is necessary: Complex numerical approaches, such as Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT), can provide this corresponding information and help to understand the physical impact of the flow phenomena. The aim of the present work is thus to understand the predominant heat transport phenomena in warm-keeping operation and to gain detailed heat transfer coefficients within the flow channel for blade, vane and shrouds. A multitude of steady-state simulations were performed to investigate the different warm-keeping operation points. Data from literature was recomputed in good agreement to qualitatively validate the numerical model in windage operation. Furthermore, the steady-state simulations were compared with transient Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to verify that the flow in warming operation can be simulated with a steady-state case. The transient calculations confirm the steady-state results. A variation of the mass flow rate and the rotational speed was conducted to calculate a characteristic map of heat transfer coefficients. The Conjugate Heat Transfer simulations provide an insight into the flow structure and offer a comparison with the flow phenomena in conventional operation. In addition, the impact of the flow phenomena on the local heat transfer was investigated.

Start-up Inkubatoren bzw. Akzeleratoren nehmen am Innovationsstandort Österreich eine wachsende Rolle ein. Junge, dynamisch wachsende Unternehmen fragen zunehmend Arbeitsumgebungen nach, in denen sie Infrastruktur und Dienstleistungen aus einer Hand erhalten, um sich besser auf die Entwicklung des Unternehmens bzw. des Produkts fokussieren zu können. Obwohl es in Österreich bereits eine Reihe von Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren gibt, so fehlen sehr oft die Mittel, um auch im internationalen Vergleich professionelle Dienstleistungen inkubierten Firmen anbieten zu können. Um diese Hindernisse zu überwinden, wurde im Jahr 2015 das Pilot-Programm "JumpStart" gestartet. Bisher wurden 2 Ausschreibungsrunden 2015/2016 für das Modul 1 erfolgreich abgeschlossen und die besten 10 Konzepte von Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren ausgewählt und gefördert. Im Rahmen des Moduls 2 werden jeweils bis zu fünf Unternehmen, die in den unter Modul 1 geförderten Inkubatoren/Akzeleratoren betreut werden, für eine Förderung ausgewählt. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht diese Studie das Programmdesign, die Programmumsetzung sowie die Programmwirkung (Outputs, Outcomes und Impacts) des JumpStart-Programms. Darauf aufbauend werden Vorschläge für die Weiterentwicklung des Programms formuliert. Dazu wurden 25 Interviews mit den LeiterInnen der geförderten Inkubatoren, mit inkubierten Startups und weiteren Stakeholdern durchgeführt. Ferner wurde im Frühjahr 2021 eine Online-Befragung an Startups, die an JumpStart-Inkubatoren ansässig waren oder sind bzw. deren Dienstleistungen in Anspruch genommen haben, durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse dieser Befragung werden mit Daten von Startups aus dem ASM (Kontrollgruppe) vergleichend analysiert.
