Résumé :
In the Philippines, basketball is a popular sport, and there are local, provincial, and regional and national competitions (Antolihao, 2010). From urban and rural areas, both public and private institutions, organizations, sectors, different schools province, city, municipality or towns, barangays and every corner of the street or block, Filipinos play basketball even in a small area that can make a small court or half-court and a basketball ring or sometimes a basketball ring without a board (De la Cruz, 2016). A tale or a myth attests to the powerful influence of Filipinos' sport and a keen interest in basketball and its existence in their archipelagic geography, despite the sport being designed or tailor-made for tall people (Dumaraos, 2016). There are varsity players in colleges who are scholars because of their ability to play this game. The sports career of basketball players goes a long way even when they have graduated from school. They may become professional and paid basketball players later (Sugai, 2010). However, being an expert basketball player requires much practice. Basketball players may be professionally trained or may have started as a backyard player or may have no professional training. There are backyard players who have very high accuracy and precision in shooting, which are part of their genetic characteristics (Perine, 2016). Nevertheless, these genetic characteristics may be enhanced by experience. On the other hand, Ortega, Olmedilla, de Baranda, and Gomez (2009) found that basketball players with high self-efficacy have higher performance or shot success. The success of shooting the ball may depend on the confidence that a person had had when he was shooting. The more confident he has been, the better his chance of being precise in the shooting. This is self-efficacy, confidence, and the effectiveness of achieving success in one's aim (Perlman, 2018). Hence, the study aimed to describe, compare, and correlate self-efficacy and shot success of basketball players of the Iloilo City Mayor’s Cup.

Résumé :
I was part of a people-to-people tour of Havana, Cuba during the first week in April 2014. Among the many highlights of that adventure were an informal meeting with Dr Beatriz Marcheco-Teruel, from Cuba's National Center for Medical Genetics, and a visit to the famous ‘Street of Twins’. A fortuitous meeting with parents of twins in the fishing town of Jaimanitas was also an extraordinary event. The Cuban experience is followed by summaries of recent twin research, covering umbilical cord entanglement, the heritability of clubfoot and school separation policies for twins. Media reports include twins reunited at age 78, the future of UCLA's twin basketball players, MZ twins born holding hands, a twin conflict over beer and a pair of American Psychological Association honors for Drs Nancy L. Segal and Thomas J. Bouchard, Jr.

Résumé :
Abstract. An experiment was conducted to examine whether basketball jump shooting relies on online visual (i.e., dorsal stream-mediated) control rather than motor preprogramming. Seventeen expert basketball players (eight males and nine females) performed jump shots under normal vision and in three conditions in which movement initiation was delayed by zero, one, or two seconds relative to viewing the basket. Shots were evaluated in terms of both outcome and execution measures. Even though most shots still landed near the basket in the absence of vision, end-point accuracy was significantly better under normal visual conditions than under the delay conditions, where players tended to undershoot the basket. In addition, an overall decrease of inter-joint coordination strength and stability was found as a function of visual condition. Although these results do not exclude a role of motor preprogramming, they demonstrate that visual sensory information plays an important role in the continuous guidance of the basketball jump shot.

This dissertation analyzes the formation of black identity of the girls and boys in the Street Basketball on the street where CUFA-Ce is placed. Aimed to identify the discourses and conceptions of the students against the black identity and contribute to studies on ethno-racial identity and black non-formal space. The research used as instruments of data collection observation and semi-structured interviews. The research subjects were students , leaders and coordinators at CUFA-Ce. The fieldwork was conducted in two bases CUFA-Ce, a neighborhood in the Barroso District in Fortaleza and another in the city of Sobral. Content analysis was used for the interpretation of the interviewees' statements collected in the field research. For the results, noting that at CUFA it's not identified as a black movement but , as black in motion, so there is a connection with thegovernmental instances ,private and civil society characteristic of the New Social Movements. Regarding the "Is street basketball a black's thing?" Stands out as one of the channels for the formation and affirmation of identity as being black, however, assume a configuration despite limited regarding after-school street basketball bases surveyed which mainly point is the visibility of black youth through LIIBRA helping to raise their self-esteem. In the category 'identities by others and by themselves "can infer the first black identity the students those formed from the gaze of the other. Secondly, the absence - in the classes of street basketball - a pedagogical intervention with racial, however, does not stimulate the debate on ethnic-racial issue and the construction of black identity in the bases studied in CUFA-Ce.

Taiwanese basketball athletes have been migrating to CBA, China which caused concerns of losing sport talents from Taiwanese perspective in recent years. This study aimed to analyze the migration factors and significance of the athletic migration phenomenon crossing the Taiwan Strait, and their chronically changes from 1999 to 2010. Literature review and semi-strucutred interviews were conducted to collect necessary information. Of twenty research subjects, ten were selected as the interviewees. The research findings are as followed: 1.Migration factor: The salary gap between CBA, China and SBL, Taiwan is considered the most significant factor econemically. The strong competitiveness in CBA had been drawing Taiwanese athletes to go to CBA in fulfilling the need of self actualization. In the cultural perspective, the closeness between Taiwan and China in language and culture has facilitated the exchange of recruiting informaaiton and the froming of interpsersonal network which perpetuate the migration. As the reagualtion of CBA treated Taiwanese players as the “domestic athletes”, the SBL has not done drafting an equlevent regulation. 2.Changes in migration significance: for the migrant athletes from 1999 to 2003, their migration decisions were made upon the pushing power from Taiwan, the refreshing policy in the national team and the dismissment of the CBA in Taiwan. As for those who migrated within 2007 to 2010, self-actualization and the salary increase are the main reasons affecting their migration. More and more migrant athletes nowadays think about going to countries other than China than before, meaning a more globalized culture they are facing. In conclusion, whether to eliminate the salary gap or to seek for more cooperation than competition with CBA may be one of the options to address the problem of losing talents.

The globalization of sports has resulted in increasing labor migration across countries and continents. Obviously, the professional basketball players moving to China have been increasing in recent years. This research focuses on the Taiwanese male basketball players’ migrating to the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), especially the nationalistic implications of such migrations. Although Taiwanese basketball is at the periphery on the global basketball map, and the national identity associated with basketball is not as significant as for Taiwanese baseball, the complex political issues between Taiwan and China still has an impact on the nationalistic implications of Taiwanese male basketball player migrating to China. The sport provides an arena for Taiwanese to express their national identities and distinguish themselves in the era of globalization, expecially vis-a-vis their significant others such as China. Moreover, while China and Taiwan have maintained a complex and fragile political relationship, economic incentives and cultural and linguistic proximity still drive Taiwanese male basketball players' migration to the CBA. Given this situation, this cross-strait movement is more complicated than the usual sport labor migration. Nationalism is a product of history, culture and collective memory. Taiwan’s national identity is still unstable and constantly changing. The reality that Taiwan is not recognized by international society further destabilizes it. To sum up, with the labor migration of Taiwanese basketball players, the media will just focus on the players’ performance and describe it. In other words, Taiwan’s national identity will avoid to beckon the nationalistic implications and identity emotion under this circumstance. Finally, when the economic interest outweighs the national identity, the labor migration of the athletes between Taiwan and China will remain or even increase. The unique political situation makes Taiwanese identity and the sport migration even more complicated.

Résumé :
It’s noon on a warm Saturday in the middle of June, and a bright sun is shining on Settepani Bakery’s sidewalk café at 120th Street and Lenox Avenue. You didn’t think to bring sunscreen to eat brunch in Harlem, so you choose a table under the red awning, put on your dark glasses, and settle down to read the menu. The small, square, white tables and lightweight aluminum chairs remind you of cafés in Italy or Greenwich Village, and the dishes on the menu also inspire dreams of other places. Smoked turkey panini with brie on pumpernickel bread. Mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil on rosemary focaccia. Bucatini pasta with an almond, basil, and tomato pesto. Cappuccino and latte, of course, but also decaf Masala chai. You understand why Settepani is popular among Harlem’s new movers and shakers. You’ve heard that Maya Angelou, the distinguished poet, playwright, and actor, who lives in a restored brownstone townhouse nearby, often has lunch here. The famous basketball champion and author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been seen walking by. The restaurant’s website lists former president Bill Clinton, whose office is on 125th Street, as a corporate customer. And when your graduate students stop in for coffee while doing a research project for your class, they meet Daniel Tisdale, the founder and publisher of Harlem World magazine, who is having a business meeting a few tables away, and Eric Woods, the chief financial officer of Uptown magazine and cofounder of Harlem Vintage, the neighborhood’s first wine store. Harlem has other well-known restaurants: the venerable Sylvia’s, the soul food restaurant that is on every tourist itinerary and sells its own bottled sauces; M&G Diner, known for its smothered pork chops, collard greens, and candied yams; and Amy Ruth’s, offering dishes named for local celebrities, like the waffles and bacon that honor retired police chief Joseph Leake and the chicken and waffles that pay tribute to the Rev. Al Sharpton, a friend of the former owner.

Résumé :
In recent years, there has been an increase in the association of technology in sports and live sports broadcasting networks. From score updates, broadcasting commercials, assisting referees for decision making, and minimizing errors, the adoption of technology has been used for fair play and improve results. This has been possible with the advancement in video analysis, classification techniques, and the availability of resources. This paper introduces a new labelled video dataset collected from a live basketball game broadcasted on live TV to determine the type of basket scored in the basketball game. Among different shots, the points the player can score are basically of three types: 3 points, 2 points, which depends on the range of shots taken and 1 point which is the free shots taken after a foul. This dataset consists of labelled video clips collected from the live broadcast of the game from the broadcasting medium to classify different scoring activities. This paper also gives the preliminary analysis of the dataset for different class labels using 3D ConvNet and two-stream 3D ConvNet methods to show the complexity of the dataset.
