This chapter summarizes the current state of research on royal and aristocratic landscapes of pleasure, including forests, parks, warrens, gardens, and tournament grounds. It is shown that archaeological evidence has made a strong contribution to knowledge about the function, extent, and significance of these landscapes across Britain. Nevertheless, much fieldwork remains to be done, especially in Wales and Scotland.
