From a sustainable development perspective, continuous industrial growth is an important issue. In recent years, it has become difficult for companies to survive in an increasingly competitive and rapidly changing business environment. To align with these changes, companies must not only rapidly transform their own organizations but also their current business domains. However, it is difficult for a leading company alone to transform existing business domains. While it is known that the transformation of a business area requires cooperation with partners, the mechanism of sustainable growth in existing business ecosystems is unclear. To solve this problem, this paper aims to unveil the role of transformation momentum in the business ecosystem in the IT (information technology) industry, which is rapidly changing from traditional IT services to cloud-based services. This study has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure as IoT case studies, as these cases have successfully transitioned from their original business domains to new ones. Based on these cases, we established a Sustainable Business Ecosystem Transformation (SBET) model for transforming industries using the business ecosystem’s dynamic capabilities. The SBET model demonstrates how transformation momentum can be created using business ecosystems in four phases (Exploration, Creation, Formation, and Mutation). The SBET model contributes to expanding the business ecosystem concept by adopting sustainable growth and accelerating transformations to enhance global IT business ecosystems. Using the model in this study, companies can achieve continuous growth not only in their own organizations but also in their partners in the wider business domain.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the ecosystem as an innovative business model. The use of modern business models is for many enterprises a driver for increasing competitiveness in a rapidly changing market environment, increasing market share and profits. The lack of an unambiguous, comprehensive definition of the concept of a business ecosystem and its unique principles that make it possible to identify this business model from others predetermined the purpose of this study. The purpose of the study is to identify and systematize the principles of functioning of business ecosystems that ensure the effectiveness of the use of current and projected ecosystems at domestic enterprises, including industrial ones. During the study, such economic definitions as system and ecosystem, business system and business model were analyzed. This made it possible to single out the universal and specific principles of the operation of business ecosystems as a whole, to form a system of principles for the functioning of a business ecosystem in industry to ensure the economic sustainability of industrial enterprises that are part of the ecosystem and increase the competitiveness of the industrial sector of the economy.

There have been many discussions about the business ecosystem in order to promote the sustainable growth of firms recently. Business ecosystems have developed independently from three perspectives: business, innovation, and the platform ecosystem. However, considering the emergence of advanced technology and social values, there is a growing need to look at business ecosystems from an integrated point of view. Based on a new win–win platform combining these discussions, we have designed and demonstrated a sustainable business innovation ecosystem (SBIE) framework. Using the triple helix model, data were collected from 290 experts—industry (95), government (100), and university (95)—in Korea. Results show that firms should consider social values as well as economic values when building a SBIE. The findings also emphasize that performances are more effective when core agents of ecosystem build a win–win platform using the fourth industrial revolution (FIR) technology.

The main problems of sustainable development of business ecosystems are considered. It is proved that promising business ecosystems need to master and use modern, including digital, technologies in managing the level of risk. The purpose of this study is to expand the types of tools that can be used to manage the risk level of failure to achieve sustainable development of business ecosystems. To study the problems of risk management and identify the characteristics of the risk phenomenon in the activities of business ecosystems, the methodology and applied tools of the system economic theory and the operational theory of risk management are used. It is shown that the management of risk of harm to the environment, in the social sphere, and development of anti-risk impacts, reducing the level of risk of not achieving the necessary quality of management, improve the investment attractiveness of economic agents, members of the business ecosystem. The realization research may be of interest to enterprises and organizations that are developing their own strategies for sustainable development within the framework of emerging business ecosystems, or developing their own strategy for choosing and joining some hypothetical business ecosystem.

Advances in information and communication technologies and, more specifically, in artificial intelligence resulted in more intelligent systems, which, in the business world, particularly in collaborative business ecosystems, can lead to a more streamlined, effective, and sustainable processes. Following the design science research method, this article presents a simulation model, which includes a performance assessment and influence mechanism to evaluate and influence the collaboration of the organisations in a business ecosystem. The establishment of adequate performance indicators to assess the organisations can act as an influencing factor of their behaviour, contributing to enhancing their performance and improving the ecosystem collaboration sustainability. As such, several scenarios are presented shaping the simulation model with actual data gathered from three IT industry organisations running in the same business ecosystem, assessed by a set of proposed performance indicators. The resulting outcomes show that the collaboration can be measured, and the organisations’ behaviour can be influenced by varying the weights of the performance indicators adopted by the CBE manager.

This article examines the role of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Kazakhstan as a key element for achieving sustainable economic growth and diversifying the economy. It analyzes existing international practices of successful ecosystems, such as Silicon Valley, Israel, and Singapore, to identify strategies applicable to the Kazakh context. The article discusses the main challenges faced by startups in the country, including reliance on raw materials, a lack of innovative sectors, and limited access to capital. Recommendations are presented for improving government support, developing startup infrastructure, and preparing qualified personnel, with an emphasis on the need to implement green technologies. The study highlights the importance of collaborative efforts among the government, private sector, and educational institutions to create a favorable entrepreneurial ecosystem that fosters innovative development and sustainable economic growth in Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the article is functional decomposition of the main stages of the algorithm of providing strategic management of business ecosystem development. It is determined that it includes the assessment of the resource potential of the territory; defining its core competencies; locomotive industries, industries and spheres of management; creation of drivers of development of spatial systems; formation of points and zones of economic growth; cross-sectoral redistribution of investment flows, internal balancing of territorial development; creating a system of sustainable finance and ensuring system-wide sustainability of territorial formation. An appropriate scheme of sequential decomposition of the business ecosystem is proposed. The functional role of the natural resource space as a source of production, raw material, energy resources and the basis for the organization of business ecosystems have been determined here. The role of key competences for the functioning of a sustainable competitive economy has been determined also. The leading role of economic drivers and locomotive industries, which are able to build powerful chains of production, supply and sale in ensuring the sustainable development of business ecosystems, has been established. Also there is established the need to create growth points as spatially-localized territorial-economic entities, wich are provided with the necessary growth drivers and focused on the production of locomotive industries. The functional role of the sustainable finance system in the extraction, redistribution, accumulation and capitalization of rental income from environmental management is characterized.

Continuous economic and social changes led to the development of new concepts both in business as well as in academic environments. As a result, one of them is the concept of business ecosystem. This concept brought a new definition of an industry through clear delimitation of organizational roles and relationships which are evolving around a common strategy and through the vision of an industry as a community of interrelated organizations who work together for a common benefit. This paper aims to provide a conceptual framework for a business ecosystem with a view to measure its performance by means of strategy maps. The main purpose of strategy maps is to communicate the strategy throughout the organization and to ensure its proper and successful execution. From this point of view the findings should reveal how the organizations inside business ecosystems are adapting a common strategy and the importance of the value creation processes established inside the business ecosystem. In order to achieve this objective it will be identified the business ecosystems strategy along with specific features and it will be transposed in a Balanced Scorecard framework according to its four perspectives: financial, customer, internal processes and learning and growth. Each perspective respond to organization needs and reflects the most important strategic objectives. The linkage and relations between each perspectives elements will be established by analyzing sustainable development influences as a new trend of organization development and as response to global concern to environment, social and economic evolution. This direction of analysis will provide, for various stakeholders, a new framework to implement the concepts of eco-innovation and eco-development as well as cooperation and co-evolution. Basically these concepts will be considered as key aspects of analysis as well as for the strategy implementation process and will provide knowledge about organizations mechanisms related to its role as a business ecosystem within the context of the internal and external environment. The main outcome, the foreseen result, is to create a strategy map template for a business ecosystem that could foster the importance of cooperation and co-evolution concepts for strategy implementation.

The purpose of the article is to define an innovative concept of sustainable management based on the analysis of the institutional configuration of business ecosystem entities. The concept of sustainable (SUST) management is outlined as the creation of conditions for multi-entity management of territorial capital on the basis of digital platform technologies and the principles of partnership between government, business and the population. The institutional configuration of territorial business ecosystems is analyzed. It is determined that the business-ecosystem organization of economic activity is a flexible and dynamic system that creates opportunities for the integration of natural resources into economic circulation in territorial communities. It is established that there is a need for a radical restructuring of the institutional configuration of the spatial management system of natural resources in the direction of creating a system of multi-entity management of territorial capital. The main institutions and institutes of the spatial system of natural resources management of the territorial business ecosystem are outlined, in the field of local government, public-private partnership, corporate-platform and structural-project management, etc., within which economic actors of business ecosystems are endowed with appropriate functions and powers.. The structure of the business-ecosystem concept of sustainable management is detailed, including the basic formats of institutionalization of territorial assets management, informational and communicational platform component and management mechanisms of sustainable management, which are focused on creating a system of multi-entity management of sustainable development of territorial communities. Basic formats and forms of institutionalization of territorial assets management in the conditions of decentralization of power are proposed, including communication platforms of collaborative interactions between public authorities, business and population, as well as a set of mechanisms of structural and project management of sustainable development of territorial communities.

The City relies on Nature‟s products and services for its wellbeing and its very existence. Smallbusinesses, the socio-economic fabric of the City, are mostly mainstream and not engaged insustainability. From their point of view, how do they connect to the Sustainable City?In one of the most competitive areas of central Paris, mainstream businesses and also frontrunners, thelatter already engaged in sustainability, were interviewed as a pilot to further explore transformationinto the Sustainable City. All were asked to reflect on their experience in managing change. They werethen encouraged to propose actions in face of the challenges of sustainability and the sustainable city,and react on a vision of the Sustainable City for Paris and its larger region. They expressed barriers tochallenges and to the vision proposed. And they also proposed ideas, expressed desires, opportunitiesand overall bridges for sustainability to be practically implemented. The findings presented theenterprises‟ interpretation of the concepts of trust and innovation. Reflecting on how the results couldcontribute to a transformation into a Sustainable City resulted in a practical list of actions. This pilotstudy showed a potential for sustainable development to emerge throughout the City through its mostimpactful yet promising actors, the small businesses.In order to contribute in building bridges between City and Nature, the exploration is inspired bysocial ecological research, looking for ways to harmonize the various elements and actors to transformcities into sustainable ones. The framework is mostly based on a business-inspired research design anda construct from the European Union Sustainable City challenges, resilience theory approaches and theFrench national strategy for sustainable development.

Background: Social entrepreneurship has lately gained wide recognition as a promising avenue to develop market-driven solutions to improve lives of the marginalised. While identified as an emerging topic in academics, literature is still limited and heavily biased towards the context of western countries. Further, little is known about how social enterprises interact with the supportive ecosystem to develop their organisations and ensure financial viability while attending their social mission. Thus, the Philippines was chosen as the location of the study, a developing country plagued by social problems, but simultaneously harbouring a growing ecosystem that support social enterprises in their quest to address them. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore how the development of New Generation Social Enterprises (NewGen SE) is enabled by the surrounding ecosystem in the context of the Philippines. It further aims to identify factors constraining the progress of NewGen SE, and how the ecosystem can be enhanced to better support these enterprises. Method: The data for this qualitative study has been collected using in-depth, semi-structured interviews. In total, twenty interviews were conducted: ten entrepreneurs from three different development stages (start-up, growth & mature), and ten ecosystem actors. The data has been analysed and interpreted using a general inductive approach. Conclusion: The networks of both the entrepreneurs and the ecosystem actors enable social enterprises to access resources, expertise, and foster collaboration. Challenges on both the macro and micro level are hindering social enterprises to grow, resulting in only a few success stories. To enhance the support for social enterprises more collaboration within and outside the ecosystem should be fostered through the implementation of more intersections such as physical and online spaces where people can connect.

Background: Three mega trends are profoundly changing today’s market dynamics; climate change, digitalization, and globalization. The increasing interconnectivity and omnipresence of digital technologies are blurring the boundaries of the physical and virtual reality, implying a shift in how digital companies create value and internationalize. Also, new policies and higher customer demand in greener and smarter technologies have created new opportunities for value creation to develop cleaner technologies that foster the growth of clean-technology firms. To be competitive and persist in a sustainable and digital economy, firms must be able to cope with changing market conditions. Strategic agility can support to avoid rigidity and benefit from change, which is fostered by strong dynamic capabilities. Knowledge gaps: The study aims to address shortcomings of digital sustainability business models and specifically characterize the emerging sector of sustainable software companies offering Cleantech-as-a-Service applications. The international potential of these ventures recognizes the need to elaborate on internationalization drivers. The globally competitive environment enforces the need to be strategically agile, whereby applying agile principles to an international context can bring a comprehensive view of internationalizing digital sustainability ventures’ critical capabilities and business model characteristics. The study will also assert the role of collaborative ecosystems in an entrepreneurial internationalization. Purpose: This study will explore the emergence of Cleantech-as-a-Service and investigate how these digital entrepreneurs achieve strategic agility in global pivoting and competitive environments. Our exploratory research aims to apply agile principles to entrepreneurial internationalization strategies, where we through six in-depth interviews will discover the role of digital cleantech firms’ dynamic business models, capabilities, and ecosystems when entering a foreign market. Theoretical framework: The conceptual frame of references is based on two major sections where the first considers the context of digital and sustainable firms and exhibits the essences of digital and sustainable business model designs and how to sustain competitiveness through the interrelation of dynamic capabilities and strategic agility. In the second section the study brings forward theory supporting the exploration of an agile internationalization for digital firms, such as virtual markets and ecosystems. The key theoretical forthcomings are summarized into a conceptual framework that combines the role and interplay of entrepreneurs, business models, as well as networks and ecosystems on the basis of strategic agility and dynamic capabilities, that jointly foster an agile and virtual internationalization. Methodology: The interpretive research used an explorative and abductive approach to perform a qualitative multiple case design. The empirical study was based on six Cleantech-as-a-Service companies where in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with the informants of significant positions. The thematic and content data analysis supported the identification of common patterns and themes through coding which guided the subsequent analysis chapter. Findings: Our study revealed characteristics and success factors of Cleantech-as-a-Service ventures operating on global volatile markets, which adopt a leagile approach. The findings supported a definition of the concept but also identified the dynamic capabilities and flexible business models leveraged to sustain international competitive agility. The key agile capabilities relate to networking, experimenting, and learning whereas business model characteristics confer resiliency, interdependency, and efficiency.

The scale and urgency required to address the interconnected economic, environmental, and social challenges currently facing society is significant. Business increasingly looks to natural systems for inspiration, one example being codified in the circular economy discourse (CE). CE, based on a biological ecosystem analogy, emphasises creation of environmental and economic value from converting waste into a productive resource. What it disregards is the social dynamics of sustainable value creation within social systems, neglecting the role of power and influence in the discussion. Equally, a gap exists in the nascent literature on sustainable business models (SBMs) in respect of the social dynamics of value creation. The relationship dynamics enabling sustainable value creation need to be better understood and integrated with a perspective which takes the impact of power relations into account. This thesis seeks to contribute insights to the understanding of how power relations impact sustainable value creation. To address these gaps, an analytic framework of organizational influence is developed. It draws on a resource based approach to power-dependency, based on Margaret Archer’s (1995) concepts of first and second order power and her distinction between structural and cultural resources. It also integrates Emerson’s (1962) emphasis on both relative power differentials and the degree of dependency in exchange relationships. This framework is used to interpret qualitative data gathered from Adnams Plc., a UK brewery and sustainability pioneer. A case study is developed based on observation and semi-structured interviews related to 30 inter-organizational relationships within Adnams’ business ecosystem. The findings have theoretical implications for the strategic management and sustainability literature, particularly the SBM literature, resource dependence theory (RDT) and the CE discourse. This research illustrates the importance for organizational actors to consider the power relations within inter-organizational relationships when developing sustainable value creation strategies.

Background: Swedish textile waste management ecosystem is recognized to be a multi-actor ecosystem as opposed to a single-actor scenario whereas actors tend to perform their activities single-handedly and in a fragmented manner. Participating actors, each play a significant role in handling and treating the textile waste but this fragmented system renders certain drawbacks. The main treatment of textile waste in Sweden is incineration which addresses environmental damages. This in particular is more worrying when textiles are used as a fuel. This highlights the necessity for the actors to perform in a network and expand their collaboration, thus move more efficiently towards development of a sustainable innovation and find an alternative for the current treatment of textile waste. Purpose: This study strives to investigate the challenges and at the same time opportunities of implementation of a collaborative business model for sustainable innovation. This has been achieved through taking benefits of value mapping tool and actor-mapping. The core values of actors have been identified which was continued by identification of their shared and conflicting values. Methodology: Pre-study was conducted in order to design and develop two mappings, “main actors mapping”, “actor’s activity mapping” which helped the authors and the interviewees to gain a better realization of the Swedish Textile Waste Management ecosystem through visualization. The process of data collection occurred through semi-structured interviews with Open-ended questions which resulted to rich detailed responses from the interviewees. Seven organizations as the representative of Swedish textile waste management ecosystem were reached and studied. The outcomes of the interview were analyzed by the aid of value mapping tool and led the authors to formulate the answer to the research question. Interview findings: Interview findings presents the outcome of the collected data in accordance with the purpose of the study and the answer to the proposed research question. Consequently, this chapter provides a description of the Activity classification in TWM eco-system in Sweden as an outcome of the pre-study, continued by expanding on the results of Actors mapping & their activities in TW eco-system and Activity mapping in relation to actors’ interactions, which were achieved by the aid of value mapping tool. This chapter is concluded by providing actors perspectives regarding the formation and the suitability of a collaborative business model for sustainable innovation on the basis of mapped values within textile waste scenario in Sweden. Analysis& Discussion: This study tends to present rich and comprehensive picture in a descriptive manner in regards with participating actors, their activities, collaboration and value-orientations within Swedish textile waste scenario and propose a solution to the identified short-comings of the system by investigating the potentials of a collaborative business model for sustainable innovation. The literature review confirm and support the interview findings and addresses the need for further dialogue and collaboration among actors while highlighting the need from moving from ego-centric business model to multi-actor business model. This chapter is concluded by the response to the research question.

La blockchain suscite un intérêt croissant, identifié par les organisations et institutions comme une technologie potentiellement transformative pour adresser les défis environnementaux, dont la gestion des crédits carbone. Cette technologie, qui permet des transactions sécurisées et transparentes via un registre distribué et immuable, pourrait contribuer au développement d'écosystèmes d'affaires plus durables. Si la blockchain a été étudiée dans divers contextes organisationnels, son rôle dans le renforcement de l'intégrité inter-organisationnelle au sein des écosystèmes d'affaires durables reste peu exploré. Pourtant, la recherche sur les écosystèmes d'affaires durables et leur transformation numérique ne cesse de croître, notamment face à l'urgence climatique soulignée par le GIEC.Cette thèse doctorale sur travaux est composée de 5 chapitres et est située à l'intersection des systèmes d'information, du management stratégique et du développement durable. Le principal objectif est d'étudier comment la blockchain peut contribuer au développement d'écosystèmes d'affaires durables à travers la problématique suivante : Comment la diffusion et l'adoption des plateformes blockchain peuvent-elles contribuer au développement d'écosystèmes d'affaires durables ?Pour répondre à cette problématique, nous avons d'abord étudié le rôle des cabinets de conseil dans la diffusion de la blockchain à travers 14 entretiens semi-directifs. Puis, nous avons mené une revue systématique de la littérature (83 articles) pour cartographier les applications de la blockchain dans les écosystèmes d'affaires. Enfin, nous avons réalisé une étude de cas explicative de Carbonable, une plateforme blockchain dédiée à la gestion des crédits carbone, à travers 17 entretiens.Cette thèse vise à contribuer à la théorie des parties prenantes en explorant comment la blockchain peut faciliter de nouvelles formes d'engagement dans les contextes de durabilité. Elle propose des pistes de réflexion sur la conceptualisation de l'intégrité inter-organisationnelle dans les écosystèmes blockchain et suggère des éléments d'analyse sur l'articulation entre approches instrumentales et normatives de la gestion des parties prenantes. Meanwhile, research on sustainable business ecosystems and their digital transformation continues to grow, particularly in light of the climate emergency highlighted by the IPCC.This doctoral dissertation, comprising 5 chapters, is situated at the intersection of information systems, strategic management, and sustainable development. The primary objective is to examine how blockchain can contribute to the development of sustainable business ecosystems through the following research question: How can the diffusion and adoption of blockchain platforms contribute to the development of sustainable business ecosystems?To address this research question, we first studied the role of consulting firms in blockchain diffusion through 14 semi-structured interviews. Subsequently, we conducted a systematic literature review (83 articles) to map blockchain applications in business ecosystems. Finally, we carried out an explanatory case study of Carbonable, a blockchain platform dedicated to carbon credit management, through 17 interviews.This thesis aims to contribute to stakeholder theory by exploring how blockchain can facilitate new forms of engagement in sustainability contexts. It offers insights into the conceptualization of inter-organizational integrity in blockchain ecosystems and suggests analytical elements regarding the articulation between instrumental and normative approaches to stakeholder management. Over the past decades the revolution of electronic devices had a major impact in our everyday lives. The penetration of PCs and distribution of Internet made it easier to communicate with people around the world. The rise of smart phones changed many aspects of our everyday life, the impact ranging from alarm clocks to email consumption to video conference calls. The era of connected devices now trigger a radical change in an area that has not been disrupted over decades - the TV experience. By integrating the Internet into television sets, Smart TVs will allow consumers to use on-demand streaming media services, listen to Pandora Radio, access interactive media, use social networks, and download apps. In light of this industry change, several questions arise from the perspective of TV manufacturers. Can the Smart TV become a platform leader and create a sustainable ecosystem? What is the business model for TV manufacturers and how will they collaborate with other stakeholders? How will the smart TV create value for the customers and not get dis-intermediated? This thesis looks at factors that drive the industry change and identify challenges and opportunities to address. Overall, the thesis provides a strategic direction for television manufacturers.

The focus of this research lies on the possibilities and willingness of accommodation businesses to work for and towards sustainability in a destination. The area of investigation is the municipality of Bad Hindelang located in the German Alps. The so called Ökomodell stands for a collaboration agreement between agriculture and the municipality in order to preserve Bad Hindelang’s ecologically and touristically extremely valuable cultural landscape through continued traditional pasture-based livestock farming. The point of departure for this research is the destination’s goal to bring the accommodation sector on board. Two questions are particularly relevant in this context. First, to what extend do accommodation businesses recognize the Ökomodell’s importance for their own success as tourism stakeholders? And second, what factors influence their willingness to implement appropriate sustainability measures? The approach chosen for this research is mixed methods. Both, qualitative semi-structured expert interviews as well as a quantitative survey have been conducted. The results lay open the perspective of accommodation providers in Bad Hindelang. They have shown to be aware of agriculture being the condition for landscape preservation and thus long-term success in tourism. However, their willingness to contribute by implementing suggested sustainability actions is influenced by a multitude of other factors; above all, the costs and benefits going along as well as their level of engagement and foresight as tourism entrepreneurs.

The thesis explores how monetisation of corporate externalities, can be carried out in order to provide investors, policy makers and consumers with accurate pictures of the true costs and benefits of business operations from a resilience and ecosystem services perspective. By drawing conclusions from company cases, and previous research – methods, drivers and monetary values of impacts such as carbon dioxide, water usage, pollutants and land use are analysed. The findings reflect opportunities that open up with monetisation, in terms of tools for guidance and support in internal corporate decision making, by making the actual impacts visualised and understandable. Findings from company cases, show that monetisation of corporate effects has potential to contribute to visualising impacts – and add knowledge that may close information gaps internally as well as externally. It can guide and facilitate strategic choices at corporate level. It may also have a role in bridging information asymmetries in the picture of a firm’s operation, to consumers and investors. Monetising effects may facilitate identification of risks arising from ecosystem services dependencies, visualising the actual impacts by, assed costs in losses in ecosystems’ production (yields e.g.) caused by corporate harm.Providing relevant information to policy makers, on obstacles and where regulative incentives are needed, and investors and consumers with guidance, monetisation of impacts potentially can play a part in bridging market information gaps toward better incentive structures and possibly facilitating effective market transformation in favor of sustainable production and consumption patterns.

Hållbarhet har definierats utifrån tre grundpelare: miljömässig-, ekonomisk- och socialhållbarhet. Inom tjänsteteori har intresset för hållbarhetsteorier ökat, men relationen mellan dessa områden är relativt outforskade. Detta är förvånansvärt då många organisationer är beroende av hållbart värdeskapande. Således är syftet med studien att alstra förståelse för hur aktörer skapar värden inom ett hållbart tjänsteekosystem. Studien utgår från ett makroperspektiv eftersom viktiga implikationer för värdeskapande kan upptäckas då hållbarhet genererar värde för flera aktörer. Det teoretiska ramverket omfattar tre delar; teori om tjänsteekosystem, hållbarhet och en sammanföring mellan dessa områden. Eftersom värdeskapande inom hållbara tjänsteekosystem är relativt outforskat valdes en kvalitativ och explorativ ansats för att undersöka hur hållbart arbete inom ett tjänsteekosystem bidrar till att skapa värde. Analysen förankras i nio semistrukturerade intervjuer som genomfördes med respondenter från olika organisationer som tillhörde företagsklustret Paper Province. Intervjuerna kombineras med teori för att skapa en koppling mellan ett empiriskt fall och teori. Deltagande respondenter hade hög befattning inom respektive organisation, vilket var viktigt för att förstå organisationens struktur. Studien visar att hållbarhet inte bara ligger till grund för organisationers värdeskapande logik utan även skapar en grund för arbetsstrukturer. Genom att utgå från tjänstedominant logik ger analysen ett nytt sätt att se på hållbara aktörers värdeskapande. Inom det hållbara tjänsteekosystemet skapar aktörer förutsättningar för ett högre samhällsvärde till följd av hållbar resursintegration.At the same time as the focus on sustainability work within organizations has increased, it has also resulted in questions about how companies create sustainable value. Sustainability has been defined based on three pillars: environmental, economic, and social sustainability. In service theory, interest in sustainability theories has increased, but the relationship between these areas is relatively unexplored. This is surprising as many organizations are dependent on sustainable value creation. Thus, the study aims to generate an understanding of how actors create value within a sustainable service ecosystem. The study is based on a macro perspective because important implications for value creation can be discovered as sustainability generates value for several actors. The theoretical framework comprises three parts; theory of service ecosystems, sustainability, and a merger between these areas. Since value creation in sustainable service ecosystems is relatively unexplored, a qualitative and exploratory approach was chosen to investigate how sustainable work in a service ecosystem contributes to creating value. The analysis is anchored in nine semi-structured interviews conducted with respondents from various organizations that belonged to the Paper Province cluster. The interviews are combined with theory to create a connection between an empirical case and theory. Participating respondents held senior positions within each organization, which was important for understanding the organization's structure. The study shows that sustainability forms the basis for organizations' value-creating logic and creates a basis for work structures. Based on service-dominant logic, the analysis provides a new way of looking at sustainable players' value creation. Within the sustainable service ecosystem, actors create conditions for a higher societal value because of sustainable resource integration.

The materials of the monograph are based on the authors' long-term research on new areas of business development and their interactions in the context of digital transformation and the paradigm of sustainable development. The research summarizes both theoretical approaches and the practice of developing a new post-industrial economy in the Siberian region. It is shown that in the regions, in the macro-regions, the most massive businesses of agro-industrial, forestry and tourism complexes and organizations of social infrastructure have the main features of business ecosystems and can interact on the basis of digital platforms and digital models, achieving high-quality results and obtaining network effects, including in the implementation of the integrated investment project "Yenisei Siberia" and development Angara-Yenisei macroregion. Intersectoral and interregional clusters of these businesses and enterprises of vertically integrated businesses in the regions, organizing their interactions with partners, consumers and the state on the basis of digital platforms and digital models of their consolidated production and distribution systems, can serve as a transitional stage to such coordinated interaction.
It is intended for scientific and practical business workers, management specialists, including regional government bodies and federal management structures in regions and federal districts.

AbstractThere is substantial knowledge about the peculiarities of founding entrepreneurial ventures in general. However, comparatively little is known so far about the characteristics of establishing sustainable ventures aiming at solving ecological or social problems in society. It is particularly uncertain how sustainable entrepreneurs could attain a successful upscaling of their venture ideas to expand their impact from a local niche at origin towards reaching broader society-wide impact. At this junction between local niche and the wider societal regime or landscape level, entrepreneurial ecosystems may play a key role in providing instrumental support for sustainable ventures. Entrepreneurial ecosystems offer initial support in the formation of new sustainable ventures but, also later, helping sustainable entrepreneurs in the upscaling of their sustainable venture ideas. In this chapter, we explore how entrepreneurial ecosystems could support the expansion of sustainable ventures and help overcome the barriers and dilemmas for successful sustainability upscaling.The conceptual chapter discusses selected issues in the upscaling of sustainable ventures in the ecosystem context alongside typical barriers and dilemmas in sustainability upscaling. The contribution attempted in this chapter is to build a bridge between the literature strand on upscaling within sustainable innovation and the discussion of supportive ecosystems in the field of entrepreneurship. For example, we address the composition of ecosystem stakeholders and the importance of keeping a shared sustainability orientation in the ecosystem while integrating diverse stakeholders who provide resources for the upscaling process. The discussion in this chapter is based on reviewing recent literature on the upscaling phenomenon in sustainable innovation as well as on entrepreneurial ecosystems and sustainable entrepreneurship. In particular, we suggest that upscaling in entrepreneurial ecosystems may be understood as an open-ended evolutionary process, with ecosystem networks and stakeholder collaboration providing stable spaces for reflexive discourse and learning.

The institutions and resource endowments for entrepreneurial engagement with sustainability in a country are forming a ‘national ecosystem for sustainable entrepreneurship.’ The ecosystem for sustainable entrepreneurship is a context for businesses pursuing sustainability. Little is known, however, about the effect of the system on business pursuits of sustainability. We explored whether the ecosystem promotes businesses that are born sustainable in that they, from their start, are pursuing strategies and practices for sustainability. The national ecosystems for sustainable entrepreneurship in 47 countries, with a large representative sample of starting and operating businesses, were surveyed in 2021 by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor. Hypotheses about the effect of an ecosystem on business engagement with sustainability were tested by hierarchical linear modeling. Elaboration of national ecosystems for sustainable entrepreneurship is found to promote sustainability pursuits in newborn businesses more than in older businesses. This finding contributes to evidence-based theorizing of the nexus between entrepreneurial ecosystems and business pursuits of sustainability.

Continuous demand on sustainability, carbon neutrality, circular economy and life cycle material chain management has changed societies and all industries fast. However, sustainable development and competitiveness are always based on being economically viable and circular economy itself is an economic theory. The amount of usable data in business environment is at the same time exponentially increasing. Technology opportunities as well are prominent to use the data in managing by data for the purpose of business co-evolution. Competitive landscape is shifting from well-defined industries to broader ecosystems and traditional enterprise boundaries are breaking down. This also means for busines transition towards platform economy e.g. enterprise production lines to networked intelligent value chains and ecosystems. Companies need in this disruptive situation an ecosystem strategy and analysis, which type of business model they are utilizing. Businesses are networking and transforming into ecosystems, emphasizing the management of interface processes. It is essential to understand digital ecosystem supporting business co-evolution. Data is a valuable currency that gives fuel for innovation and data driven co-evolution. Capturing of new data from various sources and executing it in business in transition requires human- oriented data-driven business architecture and strategy alignment on that basis towards circular economy business model and continuous coevolution. Circular economy ecosystems are based on economic theory, and they are not working if they are not economically viable. The goal of this article is to identify and analyze the life cycle material flow in circular economy in different business areas and find various business models and similarities in business practices. At the same time, this article attempts to develop framework for the strategic management of complex change through sustainable co-evolution in order to achieve a competitive edge for companies.This research is partly constructive, conceptual and analytical, because it introduces pathway to ecosystem strategy and introduces experiences of applying different evolutionary circular economy business models. Data for this concept creation has been collected over several years on continuous flow from ten different regional applied research and development projects. The data sources have also been interviews and workshops executed during projects on foresight and scenario planning basis. The researchers have been able to participate on creation of several regional ecosystems. Researchers have contributed on ecosystem strategy planning, decision making and continuous development practices.The complexity of co-evolution is difficult to manage without ecosystem- based approach. A generic perception of this research is that successful ecosystem needs clear ecosystem strategy and should set up a shared vision and evolutionary roadmap to serve as basis for common value creation, co- operation and ecosystem leadership. All ecosystem players can focus attention of ecosystems in the value propositions that are being pursued, not in corporate identity. It is important to understand that ecosystem is value driven. Ecosystems are defined around the roles, positions, and flows across the partners that create a value proposition. Nearly all business fields and enterprises face the need for transition towards data- driven circular economy business model and continuous coevolution through digital ecosystem.

Nowadays there is a trend of movement of many enterprises from product-driven business models towards networked service-centered business models for increasing their revenues and creating sustainable service ecosystems. A service ecosystem is a socio-technical complex system that enables service-based cooperation between entities. It consists of a nesting of infrastructures, institutions, service systems, and contexts. This paper discusses about the definition of the main architectural elements of service ecosystems and existent modeling approaches to achieve a required quality based on specific properties. It begins with the identification of the main challenges in this domain and addresses solutions that facilitate analysis and design of service ecosystem models including ecosystem infrastructure and knowledge repositories. It compares several definitions of ecosystems and related concepts used to provide service innovation and co-creation of value. Decision making in co-creative ecosystems is distributed both horizontally and vertically. Furthermore, lines of authority and governance structure are less distinct than in traditional views of business organizations. Joining an ecosystem requires interoperability knowledge. Under this perspective the paper discusses about knowledge management in an open context addressing specific ontological relationships between concepts. The importance of interoperability models has been recognized in the context of ecosystems and several levels have been introduced and defined. Among these can be mentioned conceptual, behavioral, semantic, communication and connection. The last part of the paper pays attention and analyses existent methods and tools for service ecosystem engineering. It discusses about and ecosystem architecture framework and a modeling methodology for creation of agile services engineering platforms.

In times of crisis there is a need to incorporate management mechanisms that allow strategic use of the region’s ecosystem and entrepreneurship potential. Today many entrepreneurship agents carry out business processes chaotically, traditionally managing their resources without considering the innovational components of the ecosystem. There is a need for a strategy created on the basis of achievements and development of scientific theories, which will align the spontaneous chaotic nature of the entrepreneurial cluster and strengthen its vector impulse in increasing the activity of the economy of the territory. The aim of the study is to create a modern strategy for the development of small and medium business on the basis of the study and development of scientific theories and ideas, to create the strategy to study the state and trends of entrepreneurial activity of the region and its ecological environment. Methods: management theory, strategic management theory, systems analysis, methodologies of SMB growth poles strategy in regional systems, development of regional ecosystems, conceptual approaches to entrepreneurship development strategy, concepts, and models of entrepreneurship ecosystem theory. Results and novelty: The strategy of small and medium business in the region proposed in the work is based on the study of theories, methods and analysis of the role and performance trends of small and medium business (SMB), which determined its priority as a propulsive cluster of the regional economic system. The application of platform strategy for SMB development allows increasing the propulsiveness of the SMB cluster in the ecosystem of the region.

The world has witnessed unprecedented population growth, reaching 8 billion by 2023. Factors such as technological advancements, medical breakthroughs, and improved living conditions have fueled this surge. With heightened life expectancies and rapid population increments, efficient resource management is essential. Our ecosystems, which evolved over billions of years, have been significantly impacted by the mere 200 generations of modern civilization, particularly since the Industrial Revolution. As we navigate the fourth Industrial Revolution, marked by the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart technologies, there is a palpable need for sustainable business models. Notably, transportation, a major environmental offender, contributes 16.2% to global greenhouse emissions, with road transport alone accounting for 11.9%. This paper focuses on innovative sustainable strategies in the delivery sector, targeting a holistic approach grounded in the three pillars of sustainability: People, Planet, and Profit. Following the in-depth research interviews undertaken with top-management executives in the traditional delivery businesses, therefore the current paper attempts to assess the good practices in sustainable management, following the 5 management principles: planning, organizing, directing, staff and controlling, in the context of the AI-driven business models and find paths for further improvement following the three pillars of sustainability: People, Planet and Profit.

The paper aims at showing how innovations in agri-food business models influence the corporate sustainability of rural ecosystems, assuring the attainment of specific sustainable development goals. The purpose is achieved through a case study method, using a relevant farmhouse and agritourism “Anna dei Sapori” located in the Cilento Bio-District – rich of bio-cultural diversity and homeland of the Mediterranean Diet, Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO – in Italy. Results show as all corporate processes are managed according to agroecological principles, introducing useful innovations. The goal demonstrates the impact of this thrilling “philosophy”, based on a circular and holistic approach, on environmental, sociocultural, and economic dimensions of sustainability, and the achievement of specific Sustainable Development Goals and targets.

Business Membership Organizations (BMOs) are important and recognized facilitators of a competitive economic environment and its development. However, they are under continuous demand to adjust their role in the business ecosystem and determine their strategic development directions. BMOs performance, their existing connections, advantages and benefits are challenged by changing business cooperation patterns, digital transformation, generation change and other emerging factors. The paper analyses how BMOs can sustain in delivering business value to their members and stakeholders (individual firms or other BMOs, government, public institutions) through existing and new service ranges, evaluate their business model and continue to be resilient organizations. It demonstrates with a benchmarking analysis across different BMOs how these organizations are important actors with significant benefit for sustainable and competitive business and its environment development. The findings add that reviewed and adjusted BMOs service ranges are among key success factors for BMOs to continue gaining an important role and remain resilient organizations in changing business ecosystems. The paper provides an insight of demand- and supply driven service approaches to meet business and public sector as well as BMOs to be development policy drivers and help determination of business development directions.

In the Caribbean region, clusters hold tremendous potential because of the predominance of small and micro enterprises, their weak link in value chains and the scarcity of specialized inputs. The Compete Caribbean Partnership Facility (CCPF) has backed a capacity-building campaign for the cluster approach with the aim of mainstreaming cluster interventions in the region. This report explores how the process of mainstreaming is taking shape among those business support organizations (BSOs) involved in the CCPF project, currently involved in the implementation of cluster projects. The study addressed these questions: (i) Have the BSOs improved their capacity to identify, design, and implement sustainable cluster initiatives? (ii) Is the cluster approach becoming mainstream in the Caribbean region? Based on primary evidence, the main findings are as follows. BSOs have played a key role by engendering a collaborative culture amongst clusters. One of the main achievements in implementing cluster programs is the increasing cooperation between clusters. Among the BSOs, there is general agreement over the usefulness of monitoring the cluster implementation when taking informed decisions, but the collection of information is also challenging. In the Caribbean region, cluster policies do not yet represent the core of industrial development policies; nonetheless, the potential for a more regional approach to cluster mainstreaming has surfaced in interviews. Policy recommendations for introducing and promoting the mainstreaming of a cluster approach in the Caribbean region should take a three-pronged approach that focuses on (i) cluster organizations, (ii) national ecosystems, and (iii) regional ecosystems.

Belize has grown significantly in the post-pandemic era, but achieving sustainable and robust growth requires structural reforms to enhance private investment as an engine for growth. The expansion of entrepreneurship and the Micro, Small and Medium-sized firms (MSMEs) base have been a result of the transformation of the Belizean economy in the last decades. While MSMEs have the potential to boost productivity and sustainable growth if they are given the conditions to expand, at the same time MSMEs in Belize face several challenges that impact on the mortality rate of businesses. Constraints to access to productive financing is found to be a key factor behind a business closure. This document analyzes the factors of the ecosystem that influence the supply and the demand for financing for MSMEs and provides recommendations to unlock the MSMEs' potential through increased access to finance.

Climate change, rapid urbanization and other grand challenges increasingly force cities to rethink their urban (water) infrastructure. In particular, decentralized urban water management solutions, which can recover valuable resources close to the source are increasingly applied to remediate water scarcity, sanitation or environmental pollution challenges. Yet, although interesting demonstration projects with decentralized solutions (from here on labeled ‘decentralized UWM solutions’) are underway in several world regions, actors developing and implementing this transformative innovation are not effectively coordinating their efforts and sharing the latest knowledge. While effective technologies, business models, or regulative frameworks increasingly exist that could inform, inspire and improve similar activities elsewhere, details of local successes and failures are still (too) rarely shared or transferred across space. Drawing from experience on the mainstreaming of other transformative infrastructure solutions (like renewable energies, electric mobility or circular waste management), we posit that the global diffusion of decentralized UWM solutions has been significantly slowed down by this lack of interaction among key stakeholders, and the resulting lack of an effective innovation ecosystem.

The report Mapping South East Queensland fashion and textile networks for circular communities provides an analysis of the fashion and textile manufacturing industry in South East Queensland (SEQ), and a strategy to achieve circular communities in the sector. It responds to the urgent need for a solution that deals with textile waste in the clothing industry. The report reveals the geographical distribution of fashion and textile businesses, their concentration in specific areas of the Greater Brisbane Region (GBR), their businesses dimension and their practices in procuring textiles. Data is extended also to wider areas to include the South East areas. Queensland is the second largest Australian state by area, with industry and businesses concentrated in SEQ, and is the third largest state behind New South Wales and Victoria for cut and sewn textile production in Australia (AFC 2021). As for the rest of Australia, Queensland's clothing and textile industry is fragmented into micro businesses and SME. The report advocates for a strategy of implementation and support of circularity in regional areas where activities that focus on materials for sustainable transition, as well as solutions such as mobility and housing, maximise ecosystems and human well-being functioning in a sustainable way. It presents the case for a transition toward alternative urban regeneration where people are at the core of a sustainable and creative transformation.

The integration of the concept of environment, social, and governance (ESG) into trade and investment to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is becoming a new consensus. ESG considerations are increasingly crucial in national and regional policies for sustainable development strategies and regulatory frameworks, highlighting the role of governments in shaping the landscape by incentivizing companies to adopt sustainable practices, disclose ESG information, and integrate social and environmental factors into decision-making. This also emphasizes the role of international investment agreements in coordinating trade, investment, and sustainable development, as they form a legal framework that is conducive to enhancing the transparency and predictability of the international investment ecosystem, thereby reducing uncertainties and prompting long-term and stable investment. While ESG and sustainability change the way businesses, policymakers, and rule-makers make decisions, trade and investment become pivotal conduits for operationalizing SDG-related global priorities. This paper explores the growing relevance of ESG principles in trade and investment as they gain traction not only in the conduct of businesses but also in national policies, corporate governance, and regulatory frameworks. It aims to examine the ESG landscape in the Philippines and the region, understand its potential to enhance trade and investment toward achieving the SDGs, and explore strategies for effective ESG adoption. The results highlight varying responses of SDGs to trade and investment indicators. With respect to ESG interactions, the results indicate that the influence of trade and investment improves when integrated with ESG.
