This work describes advanced fabrication of custom orthopaedic implants using unconventional additive manufacturing technology - Selective Laser Melting (SLM). There was a main focus on custom knee replacement and certainly on its femoral component. The study investigated three general issues within the domain of the usage of additive manufacturing technology in medical application. First, there was an evaluation of process parameters influences of SLM fabrication method on surface and mechanical properties of titanium Ti6Al4V ELI specimens. This material was used because of its biocompatibility and its wide use within implant fabrication. Then, a proposal of the manufacturing strategy was carried out and the fabrication of customized knee femoral component prototype by SLM technology was done. The elaboration of the numerical chain prior the SLM implant fabrication, from patient's CT knee scan to final femoral replacement model, was also done. Then, a proposal of different 3-axis and 5-axis strategies of machining of the fitting femoral surface of bone prototype (3D printed from the powder) using CNC machines FV 25 CNC and TAJMAC ZPS MCV 1210 was projected and also, the 3-axis spiral machining was realised. The individual machining tool paths were generated by software Power Mill from Delcam group. Finally, these machining strategies were generated as a prior step before a machining of real patient’s bone, therefore the machining tests of cartilage and bone were done.

Rešerše se zabývá teorií technologického způsobu zpracování materiálů, tzv. povrchového tavení. V první části rešerše je popsána samotná technologie a základní parametry ovlivňující proces tavení. Ve druhé části je uvedeno srování dvou základních typů laserů, a to Nd:YAG a CO2 laser. CO2 laser byl použit v případě našeho experimentu. Třetí část se zabývá vlastnostmi TiAl intermetalických slitin, především jejich fázemi -TiAl a -Ti3Al. Na závěr teoretické části je zmíněna oxidace TiAl intermetalických slitin. Experimentální část je věnována přetavování povrchu slitiny Ti-46Al-0,7Cr-0,1Si-7Nb-0,2Ni, a to v ochranné atmosféře dusíku. Tato část obsahuje výsledky několika experimentů, na jejichž základě bylo nutné stanovit potřebné parametry pro požadovaný proces tavení. Posledním krokem experimentu byla snaha o zvýšení hmotnosti vzorků v důsledku následné oxidace.

The thesis deals with the design, construction and testing of two different metal powder coating equipment, which is able to work with SLM 280HL metal 3D printer. Since the field of multimaterial metal printing by selective laser melting (SLM) has not been significantly investigated yet, an overview of existing patents and possible approaches to the solution has been developed. The device has been successfully designed and a series of tests was carried out defining the issue of applying an improved head that uses a nozzle and an eccentric vibration motor. Based on the experiments performed, the coating parameters of the multimaterial layer of FeAm and 316L materials were defined. A control system for the partial process automation was created for the proposed device. The device was implemented in a printer that demonstrated both the ability to apply a single multimaterial layer of at least 50 m thickness, and the ability to produce a 3D multimaterial component comprised of up to 200 layers and containing material change across all axes.

The final thesis determined the properties of alloys formed from mixtures of powders processed by the SLM method. Powders of alloy AlSi12 and EN AW 2618 were fused in the proportion 75 wt. % AlSi12 + 25 wt. % 2618, 50 wt. % AlSi12 + 50 wt. % 2618 and 25 wt. % AlSi12 + 75 wt. % 2618. Metallographic analysis, EBSD analysis and line EDS microanalysis were made on the samples. Tensile test at room temperature and hardness were carried out to determine the mechanical properties. Fractographic analysis was performed after tensile test.

The master's thesis deals with properties of aluminium alloys prepared by SLM process. The teoretical part of thesis is focused on decribtion of selective laser melting technology, metallurgical defects and mechanical properties of aluminium alloys processed by this technology. The experimental part of this thesis deals with selections of the SLM process parameters suitable for samples preparation in bulk. Tensile testing at room temperature was used for evaluation of basic mechanical properties. Metallographic and fractographic analyses were performed for evaluation of the microstructure and fracture mechanisms. The materials characteristics obtained on SLM samples were compared with the properties of the same materials grade produced by conventional technologies.

The experimental part of the thesis deal with selection of SLM processing parameters, influence of scanning strategy and evaluation of mechanical and structural characteristics of fabricated materials. Mechanical characteristics were evaluated based on results of tensile tests and microhardness measurement. This diploma thesis deals with properties of multi-materials interface composed of pure iron and Cu7Ni2Si1Cr alloy produced by SLM process. The theoretical part of thesis is focused on selective laser melting technology, and on description of defects connected with the production of SLM parts. Furthermore, one section deals with the production of multi-materials prepared by the SLM process. The experimental part of this thesis deals with selections of the SLM process parameters appropriate for bulk samples preparation. Mechanical properties were determined by the tensile tests at room temperature. Metallographic and fractographic analyses were performed for evaluation of the microstructure and description of the fracture mechanisms.

The diploma thesis deals with the selection of process parameters used for manufacturing of high-strenth materials using SLM technology. The feedstock material was powder with a chemical composition according to standard DIN X3NiCoMoTi 18-9-5. Influence of change in process parameters on mechanical properties was examined by hardness tests and tensile tests. Metallographic and fractographic analysis were conducted with an aim to understand mechanisms of failure present in this type of material. Selection of optimal process parameters was based on the analysis of mechanical properties of manufactured samples. Possible future steps related to the improvement of the process were proposed. Results of this experiment were compared with literature regarding parts produced by SLM technology and conventional methods.

Tato práce se zabývá pokročilou technologií výroby personalizovaných kloubních implantátů metodou EBM za použití titanové slitiny Ti6Al4V-ELI a navrhuje nový unikátní design kolenního implantátu společně s metodologií jeho inserce, přičemž tato řešení jsou součástí patentové přihlášky č. PV 2020-459. Toto neinvazivní řešení náhrady kolenního kloubu je šetrnější k pacientovi, maximálně chrání jeho zdravé tkáně a kosti, navíc se dá předpokládat vyšší životnost implantátu ve srovnání s tradičními dostupnými řešeními. Byla uskutečněna výroba vzorků z materiálu Ti6Al4V-ELI metodou EBM, proveden rozbor jejich materiálových, mechanických, technologických a únavových vlastností. Dále byly popsány pokročilé metody zobrazování, úpravy a tvorby kloubních ploch a použity k vyvinutí nového designu personalizovaného kloubního implantátu společně s inovační technologií jeho inserce a nástroji potřebnými k její úspěšné realizaci. Toto nové řešení bylo úspěšně ověřeno mnoha testy i výrobou Ti6Al4V-ELI a CoCrMo prototypů implantátů metodou EBM. Proveditelnost a použití v praxi bylo konzultováno a schváleno odborníky v této oblasti.

Prezentovaná práce se zabývá vakuovým indukčním tavením intermetalické slitiny Ti-46Al-7Nb (at. %) v žáruvzdorných kelímcích na bázi Y2O3. Byla provedena série taveb pro teploty přehřátí taveniny 1630, 1680 and 1730 C a při různých dobách výdrže na této teplotě v rozmezí 5 až 30 minut. Ze slitin ztuhlých v tavících kelímcích byly připraveny metalografické výbrusy, které sloužily k hodnocení mikrostruktury a vyhodnocení složení fází. Pro získání těchto dat byly použity metosy elektronové mirkoskopie SEM a EDS. Kvantitativní hodnocení mikrostruktury, zejména obsahu oxidické faze ve slitině, bylo provedeno pomocí software Adaptive Contrast Control (ACC). Analýza obsahu kyslíku ve ztuhlé slitině byla provedena metodou IGF (fúze v inertním plynu). V této práci jsou pochody na rozhraní slitina/oxidický kelímek posuzovány také z termodynamického hlediska a to s použitím aktivit jednotlivých složek v systému. Data prezentovaná v této práci mohou být použita pro nastavení a optimalizaci procesů tavení intermetalik TiAlNb.

Cíle této práce jsou: (i) vyhodnocení vlivu Y2O3 kelímku na kontaminaci indukčně tavené NiTi slitiny obohacené niklem, (ii) optimalizace podmínek, při kterých jsou tavby uskutečněny a (iii) získání nových DSC a 3D AP dat o vlivu vodíkové atmosféry na martenzitickou transformaci a na strukturu NiTi slitin obohacené niklem s tvarovou pamětí. Byly provedeny následující experimenty: – Pět taveb bylo navrženo a provedeno tak, aby byla snížena maximální tavící teplota. – Pět přetaveb bylo uskutečněno při teplotě 1500 C s dobou výdrže 2, 10 a 20 minut a při teplotách 1450 C a 1550 C s 20 minutovou dobou výdrže. Experiment byl navržen tak, aby byl vyšetřen vliv tavící teploty a doby výdrže na obsah kyslíku pocházejícího z kelímku Y2O3 v tavenině. – Tepelné zpracování NiTi slitiny obohacené niklem v režimu I (žíhání) a v režimu II (kombinace žíhání se stárnutím) pod atmosférou vodíku, směsi vodíku s héliem a pod referenční atmosférou čistého hélia. Získané výsledky jsou: – Navržené tavící postupy vedou ke snížení maximální tavící teploty a to z 1800 C na 1400 C. Přesto toto velké snížení maximální tavící teploty nevedlo k významnému poklesu obsahu kyslíku. – Během přetavby uskutečněné při teplotě 1500 C s dobou výdrže 2 minuty se obsah kyslíku navýšil o trojnásobek jeho počáteční hodnoty a příliš se nelišil od obsahu kyslíku naměřeného ve slitině, která byla přetavena při stejné teplotě s dobou výdrže 10 minut. K nárustu o čtyřnásobek počáteční hodnoty obsahu kyslíku došlo u přetavby vedené na teplotě 1450 C po dobu 20 minut a hodnota obsahu kyslíku se příliš nelišila od hodnoty naměřené ve slitině přetavené při teplotě 1550 C se stejnou dobou výdrže. – S rostoucím parciálním tlakem vodíku dochází k potlačení jednokrokové martenzitické transformace. Významný pokles výšky DSC píku nastává při parciálním tlaku 100 mbar. 3D AP analýza odhalila, že nedochází k žádné lokální změně koncentrace a nebo pozic niklových a titanových atomů ve vzorku, který byl žíhán v režimu I ve vodíku. Bylo objeveno, že vodík tvoří stabilní intersticiální tuhý roztok v NiTi B2 mřížce, kde vytváří systém nanodomén s obsahem vodíku vyšší než 10 at%.

The study was aimed at analysing the non-compliance of tavern operators with selected licensing conditions of taverns in Mankweng Area, Limpopo Province. Tavern operators were randomly sampled for the study. A quantitative research approach was used and questionnaires were administered for data collection. The findings revealed that tavern operators do not comply with the licensing conditions as stipulated in the Liquor Act, no 27 of 1989. The most contravened conditions include trading beyond stipulated times and allowing minors into the licensed premises. However, there is a need to study the perceptions of the tavern operators with regard to the licensing conditions of taverns. The researcher recommended that the community should co-operate with the Liquor Board in the effective prevention of the non-compliance of the tavern operators.

This master’s thesis deals with the design of heat recovery system from melting furnace waste gases. The first part is devoted to a brief description of heat exchangers, with the special importance being placed on the shell-and-tube heat exchanger. The second part contains a calculation of stoichiometric combustion, design of geometrical dimensions, calculation of pressure drops and power. At the end of the thesis there are various possibilities of utilization of the obtained waste heat and their basic economic assessment.

In silico experiments in the field of bioinformatics generate large amounts of data since most of the tasks are done in an exploratory fashion. Workflows are one of the many tools used by scientists to model complex tasks.The interoperability of data generated from these tools plays an important role in improving the efficiency of such tools and also in verifying results from other experiments.We aim to compare workflow systems by integrating bioinformatics data in Vistrails and Taverna. We also look at how the two systems use the open provenance model that has been developed to bring provenance interoperability. We developed web services to perform similar functions of some workflows in Vistrails. With the services we were able to perform most of the tasks we planned using both systems. Differences in how lists of items are processed in the two systems results in differences in how workflows are composed in the two systems. In Taverna there is implicit iteration and Vistrails requires the use of additional modules to perform iteration.There are also differences in the execution times of workflows using web services, with workflows in Taverna taking longer than their counterparts in Vistrails. There are some similarities in the execution pattern of workflows if same workflow is invokedmultiple times, with the first invocation taking longer time than the subsequent ones.

A anÃlise da linha de pesquisa sobre o imaginÃrio afetivo, no romance de Ãlvares de Azevedo, Noite na Taverna, parte do entendimento da enunciaÃÃo da memÃria sentimental e do feminino romÃntico. Dedicar-nos-emos ao entendimento dos conflitos perturbadores que se desenvolvem na obra, investigando as emoÃÃes das personagens e seu modo de contar histÃrias neste livro especÃfico. Interessa esmiuÃar os planos de Noite da Taverna, mostrando que o feminino à sempre o impulso principal da escrita devido à ligaÃÃo entre a mulher, a natureza e o mÃtico, promovido pelo Movimento RomÃntico. Em seguida, analisaremos o reflexo das relaÃÃes desarmonizadas na fragmentaÃÃo do discurso, a fim de estudar o ambiente infernal e sua conexÃo com MacÃrio para, finalmente, compreendermos a relaÃÃo de vida e morte em cada conto. As narrativas, embora ligadas pela Taverna, possuem suas particularidades na busca do esquecimento em virtude das decepÃÃes de amores frustrados e das paixÃes como objeto, seja atravÃs do imaginÃrio dos afetos, da simbologia, da HistÃria ou de outras possÃveis leituras que possam dar subsÃdios a esta dissertaÃÃo. O intuito principal à ver Noite na Taverna dentro da esfera do humano, mas ainda assim garantindo-lhe valor literÃrio e atmosfera diabÃlica que favorece a natural extravagÃncia azevediana, atestando a existÃncia de um feminino resgatado de tempos primitivos. Esperamos dar margem a um novo olhar da crÃtica sobre a obra azevediana, nÃo esquecendo os diversos estudos anteriores, mas garantindo-lhes continuidade.
The analysis of the line of research on affective imaginary in the novel by Ãlvares de Azevedo, Night at the Tavern, part of the statement of understanding of emotional memory and female romantic. Will pay-the understanding of disruptive conflicts that develop in the work, investigating the emotions of the characters and their way of story telling in this particular book. Interested teased the plans of Taverna Night, showing that the female is always the main impetus of writing because of the connection between women, nature and mythical, promoted by the Romantic Movement. Then it will analyze the reflection of the relationship disharmonize the fragmentation of the discourse in order to study the environment and its connection with infernal MacÃrio to ultimately understand the relationship of life and death on each count. The narratives, though linked by Taverna, have its merits in the quest for oblivion because of the disappointments of frustrated love and the passions as an object, either through the sympathetic imagination, of symbolism, history or other possible readings that can provide grants to this dissertation. The primary purpose is to see Night at the Tavern in the sphere of human, yet assuring it literary value and evil atmosphere that encourages the natural extravagance azevediana, proving the existence of a female rescued from primitive times. It is expected to give room for a new look at the criticism on the work azevediana, not forgetting the many previous studies, but guaranteeing their continuity.

The analysis of the line of research on affective imaginary in the novel by Álvares de Azevedo, Night at the Tavern, part of the statement of understanding of emotional memory and female romantic. Will pay-the understanding of disruptive conflicts that develop in the work, investigating the emotions of the characters and their way of story telling in this particular book. Interested teased the plans of Taverna Night, showing that the female is always the main impetus of writing because of the connection between women, nature and mythical, promoted by the Romantic Movement. Then it will analyze the reflection of the relationship disharmonize the fragmentation of the discourse in order to study the environment and its connection with infernal Macário to ultimately understand the relationship of life and death on each count. The narratives, though linked by Taverna, have its merits in the quest for oblivion because of the disappointments of frustrated love and the passions as an object, either through the sympathetic imagination, of symbolism, history or other possible readings that can provide grants to this dissertation. The primary purpose is to see Night at the Tavern in the sphere of human, yet assuring it literary value and evil atmosphere that encourages the natural extravagance azevediana, proving the existence of a female rescued from primitive times. It is expected to give room for a new look at the criticism on the work azevediana, not forgetting the many previous studies, but guaranteeing their continuity
A análise da linha de pesquisa sobre o imaginário afetivo, no romance de Álvares de Azevedo, Noite na Taverna, parte do entendimento da enunciação da memória sentimental e do feminino romântico. Dedicar-nos-emos ao entendimento dos conflitos perturbadores que se desenvolvem na obra, investigando as emoções das personagens e seu modo de contar histórias neste livro específico. Interessa esmiuçar os planos de Noite da Taverna, mostrando que o feminino é sempre o impulso principal da escrita devido à ligação entre a mulher, a natureza e o mítico, promovido pelo Movimento Romântico. Em seguida, analisaremos o reflexo das relações desarmonizadas na fragmentação do discurso, a fim de estudar o ambiente infernal e sua conexão com Macário para, finalmente, compreendermos a relação de vida e morte em cada conto. As narrativas, embora ligadas pela Taverna, possuem suas particularidades na busca do esquecimento em virtude das decepções de amores frustrados e das paixões como objeto, seja através do imaginário dos afetos, da simbologia, da História ou de outras possíveis leituras que possam dar subsídios a esta dissertação. O intuito principal é ver Noite na Taverna dentro da esfera do humano, mas ainda assim garantindo-lhe valor literário e atmosfera diabólica que favorece a natural extravagância azevediana, atestando a existência de um feminino resgatado de tempos primitivos. Esperamos dar margem a um novo olhar da crítica sobre a obra azevediana, não esquecendo os diversos estudos anteriores, mas garantindo-lhes continuidade

L'introduction fixe la zone de prospection: l'espace linguistique picard, la periode: du dou zieme au seizieme siecle, la matiere etudiee: tous les genres litteraires, les legislations re ligieuses et civiles, les pieces judiciaires. L'ensemble est divise en quatre grands chapitres le premier chapitre s'efforce de dissiper la confusion entre la taverne, le cabaret, l'au berge et l'hotellerie. La taverne ajoute a la vente du vin au detail, la consommation sur place; puis elle etend son role alimentaire en associant tour a tour au vin le pain, le fro mage, le hareng, les grillades, les tripes et d'une facon plus ample, la ripaille. Elle est le centre des festoiements et occupe une place preponderante dans la vie des confreries et des corporations. Ordinairement, toutefois, la taverne ne fournit pas la nourriture. Quand, elle deroge a cette habitude, elle se distingue difficilement du cabaret. Celui-ci, a l'origi ne, n'est qu'une buvette ou l'on debite surtout de la goudale, puis il offre aussi du vin et annexe ensuite les repas, avant de proposer des chambres, rivalisant ainsi avec l'oste-bour geois et l'auberge. L'hotellerie dispose de l'ecurie et s'adresse a une clientele aisee. Le deuxieme chapitre etudie les sites et les structures de la taverne a partir des signes distinctifs (cercle, feuillage, banniere), puis des enseignes. Viennent ensuite les avancees et les annexes (buffet, achinte, cortil), l'espace interieur avec les substructures (celliers et boves), l'etage (solier et chambre haute) et le rez-de-chaussee (bouge et chambre basse). Le feu et la jonchee traduisent la recherche de l'intimite, tandis que la question des lieux d'aisance conduit a une analyse des comportements publics dans la societe urbaine. Le troisieme chapitre est consacre aux fraudes, classees et reliees a la tradition antique. La religion chretienne, cependant, fait sentir son influence jusque dans la legislation moderne. Deux figures significatives sont suivies dans leur evolution: le cliche isaique: "ton vin est coupe" et la loi mosaique sur l'equite du poids et de la mesure. Le dernier chapitre traite du jeu de des a la taverne. Il developpe deux mouvements: l'un sur l'homme depouille de ses vetements par le tavernier, l'autre sur la relation que le moyen age etablit entre le demon et les des. La taverne prend alors une dimension meta physique. Et la conclusion porte sur l'antithese et la complementarite taverne-eglise. Un cinquieme volume comprend une iconographie, des pieces judiciaires et une enquete sur le vin et la biere a arras a la fin du quatorzieme siecle
The introduction delineates the field of researches (the area of the picard dialect), the time (from the twelfth to the sixteenth century), the matter (all literary genres, religious and lay legislations and judiciary documents). The whole work is divided into four main chapters. Chapter one tries to dispel any confusion between taverns, wine-shops, inns and hostelries. To the retailing of wine the tavern adds the drinking of it on the premises, then its food function grows by adding bread, cheese, herring, grilled-meat and tripe (so to speak "revelry") to wine. It is the feasting centre and a primary place in the life of brotherhoods and guilds. Yet, as a rule, the tavern will not afford food. When it strays from this customary way it is hardly to be distinguished from a wine-shop. Originally the latter is but drinking-place in which "goudale" is the main thing. Then wine is found there, then meals can be had and rooms at last, which makes the place a rival for the inn and the "oste bourgeois". The hostelry affords its stable, and it accommodates well-to-do people. Chapter two examines tavern sites and structures through their distinctive features (ring foliage, banners), then their sign-boards. After that we see the advanced posts and out-buil dings ("buffet," "achinte," "cortil"), the inner space and its sub-structures (cellars and "boves"), the upper floor (with "solier" and upper chamber) and the ground floor ("bouge" and lower chamber). A longing for intimacy is to be seen in the use of the hearth and a floor strewn with rushes, while public closets lead us to analyse public behaviour in towns. Chapter three deals with fraud, classified and related to ancient tradition. Christianity, however, sets its stamp upon modern legislation. Two significant figures are studied through their evolutions : the isaic cliche "there is water in your wine" and the mosaic law about honest weights and measures. The last chapter deals with dice at the tavern. It develops a couple af notions: the first one about the man stripped of his clothes by the publican, the second one about the link that people, during the middle ages, felt to exist between dice an demon. The tavern, there, assumes metaphysical proportions. The conclusion rests on antithetic and complementary connections between tavern and church

This thesis examines how churches and taverns became sites for political discussion and organizing during the Revolutionary era, 1765-1780. Taverns had long served a role in Virginians’ lives by providing places where news was exchanged and discussed, but with the political upheaval between the colonies and Great Britain many of the activities and discussions that took place there became far more politically charged. Analyzing churches and their role within the revolutionary era demonstrates that Virginia’s revolutionary leaders used an institution deeply rooted in their society to further political activism by Virginians and Virginia’s provisional government. But in several ways the Revolution also wrought profound changes with regard to religious liberty and social hierarchy. Through the study of both churches and taverns this study reveals new insights about how these institutions served overlapping and sometimes parallel roles by providing spaces for meetings, discussions, and the exchange of information—as well as new sources of political debate.

Résumé :
This diploma thesis deals with the changes in content of fatty acids in long-lasting stored sterilized processed cheeses. Cheeses were stored under different temperatures 6 ± 2 °C, 23 ± 2 °C and 40 ± 2 °C during 23 months. Measurements was made in 16th and 23rd month of storage. The samples of sterilized processed cheeses were extracted by using mixture of solvents (ethanol, diethylether and petrolether). The obtained fat was then saponified by methanolic solution of potassium hydroxide. The methylesthers were analyzed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection. Lauric, myristic, palmitic, oleic and stearic acids were the most abundant in cheeses. The yield was measured in these main acids. To summarize the content of fatty acids decreased during time of storage and also by influence of storage temperature higher than in refrigerator.

This is a qualitative study examining conservation attitudes and resource use of 63 individuals in Kasigau, Kenya. Community members described their perceptions of conservation, the resources that they use, the location and availability of these, their support for the protection of Mt. Kasigau, their likes and dislikes of plant and animal species, and their support of ecotourism in Kasigau. All individuals listed conservation behaviors and agreed that protecting Mt. Kasigau is important. Many recognized the mountain as the only source of water. Some resources were limited, especially at certain times of the year. All interviewed community members except one would like tourists to visit Kasigau and are interested in cultural exchange. There is an apparent difference between conservation and ecotourism attitudes in Makwasinyi and the other six villages which could be because Makwasinyi has a lower level of education and is isolated on the northeastern side of the mountain. Gender differences between males and females were also present as each gender uses different resources coupled with a division of labor. The main theory that evolved was rational choice theory. People of Kasigau are trying to sustain their livelihoods and will pick conservation activities due to their benefits and chance they will increase income. When developing a community-based conservation model, these attitudes, education level, and gender differences must be considered to make a plan the whole community can agree on and from which it will benefit.

The results of small business operations play a significant economic role in developed economies, yet in the United States, approximately 50% of small businesses fail within the first 5 years of operation. Some small business owners embark on small business initiatives without the cash management strategies necessary to sustain their businesses. Grounded on financial literacy theory, this multiple-case study identified the strategies that owners of small businesses used to manage cash in their daily operations. The population included 3 owners of small tavern business in southeast Alaska who have implemented cash management strategies. Data were collected from semistructured interviews, supplementary documentation, and reflective journal notes. Data were analyzed using methodological triangulation, coding, and thematic analysis. Three themes emerged from data analysis: cash management capabilities, internal controls and employee accountability, and cash management opportunities. The findings of this study may contribute to positive social change by improving the ability of leaders of small businesses to increase job availability and contribute to economic stability in communities, thereby improving local and regional economies and enhancing the standard of living for individuals and households.

This thesis deals with sacred choral music written by John Tavener, a British composer born in 1944. It touches briefly on the background of Tavener and his early works (i.e. from about 1960-1976) - two works from that period have been selected for analysis, Celtic Requiem and Nomine Jesu. The main body of the thesis is concerned with those works composed,.after 1977, which show the influence of the Orthodox Church and Byzantine hymnography on Tavener's stylistic development. The selected works from this period to be analysed are: Ode of St Andrew of Crete, Two Hymns to the Mother of God, Magnificat, Nunc Dimittis, The Uncreated Eros, Eonia and We Shall See Him As Heis.

This thesis examines how two mid-eighteenth-century tavern keepers in Hampton chose to mirror the consumer behaviors of the local elite in the manner that food and beverages were prepared and served in their taverns. In order to understand the consumer behavior of Elizabeth City County’s elite, fifty-four probate inventories from the 1760s were analyzed. The analysis focused on the material culture associated with dining, cooking, the consumption of alcohol, and the serving of the warm caffeinated beverages, tea, coffee and chocolate. Documentary and archaeological data indicated that social elites had adopted complicated behaviors associated with dining, cooking, drinking alcohol and serving warm caffeinated beverages. The complexity of quotidian behaviors noted in the archaeological and documentary data are explained by multiple factors. The first factor is the world-view or habitus of the gentry elite of colonial Virginia that was based on the competition for respect based on social status. The second factor was the increasing availability of consumer goods in mid-eighteenth-century Virginia which meant that individuals of less wealth and social status could acquire items that had previously been available only to the wealthy. The third factor was the transition from a social practice that privileged the age of status items to one that judged the fashionabilty of items and behaviors. The level of variety and diversity identified in the homes of the elite was observed in the materials excavated from the two taverns.

This thesis represents the first urban case study of public houses at all levels of the victualling hierarchy (inns, taverns and alehouses) in an early modern English context. Moving beyond representational economies, and emphasising social practice, the study mobilises the administrative, judicial and fiscal records of the borough and port of Southampton to reconstruct a ‘landscape of drink’ in all its institutional variety: its geographical and physical dispositions; the agents who made livelihoods and joined company in it; a full range of social, economic and political functions; and its relationship to public order and urban stability. The study emphasises the local particularity of the topographical, socio-economic and jurisdictional frameworks that structured public drinking spaces and cultures, and, drawing on interdisciplinary impulses from cultural geography and architectural theory, pays particular attention to the constitutive role of the material and spatial properties of early modern public houses in determining the range and meaning of the activities which they enclosed. Far from being regarded as problematic or marginal spatial constituents of the early modern port, these distinctive urban locales emerge as central to the imaginative, economic and social worlds of early modern town-dwellers and visitors as well as to the governing strategies of the corporation itself.

This thesis traces how the drinking house was used by writers of early modern English drama to try to make sense of the period’s culture of exchange. Organised around an examination of five plays, the project focuses on the way in which playwrights engaged with and examined notions of credit, circulation, and the commercialisation of hospitality. By offering close readings through the lens of the drinking house, I make fresh interpretations of the plays. Moreover, I seek to demonstrate the wider literary tradition dealing with this space that, to some extent, has been neglected. With this in mind, I also draw on other popular texts from the period, such as ballads, jest books and rogue pamphlets, which establish certain conventions and narratives that emerge in the drama. In Shakespeare’s 1 Henry IV and 2 Henry IV, the reckoning – or tavern bill – is used as an emblem through which Hal negotiates his moral and economic redemption, in the face of Falstaff’s threat to the wider network of credit established in the tavern space. Dekker and Webster’s Westward Ho also stages credit as both a productive and unpredictable force. In the context of its Brentford location, the drinking house in that play is presented as a transformative space that allows for the possibilities of an alternative economic model. Irrepressible forces of commercialism define the Light Heart in Jonson’s The New Inn; forces that effect character transformations and champion a fluid economy in contrast with landed-estate living. In Brome’s The Demoiselle, these conventions are upended, and the commercialism of the New Ordinary is dispensed with in favour of a more settled economy. The thesis testifies to the investment writers made in the drinking house as a dramatic space and as a space to be dramatised, a space through which the possibilities and energies of exchange were staged.

The aim of this diploma thesis was to monitor influence of storage conditions (temperature and time) on content of aroma substances in sterilized processed cheeses and also on their flavour. The part of cheeses was stored at 6°C, second part at room temperature 23 °C and third part at 40 °C. Processed cheeses were produced by Madeta, a. s., sterilized at 117 °C 20 min. The analysis was made at regular intervals, cheeses stored 16 and 23 months were analysed in this work. The aroma compounds were isolated by SPME and subsequently identified and quantified by gas chromatography. In total 37 aroma compounds were identified and quantified, 7 aldehydes, 7 ketones, 6 acids, 12 alcohols and 5 esters. Total content of aroma compounds increases with higher storage temperature. The time of storage has also influence on content of aroma compounds, we may say, that content is increasing, although sharp growth was registered only after 23 months, namely in the thermostat. Simultaneously sensory analysis of cheeses was made. Ranking test and evaluation using scale were used. Cheeses from a fridge were always evaluated as the best in all categories. Cheeses stored at room temperature were evaluated worse and cheeses from thermostat were the worst. So it is apparent, that high temperature supports undesirable chemical changes in cheeses and certainly is related to their flavour.

This thesis assesses the ways in which gentility served as a catalyst for the creation of a new masculine identity during the early American republic:  the Republican Gentleman.  In particular, I utilize taverns in Richmond, Virginia from 1780 to 1820, in which to understand the significance of gentility.  This thesis analyzes how Richmond taverns represented the growth of gentility through refined architecture and its male patrons.  It discusses how taverns, as predominantly male spaces, allowed for the expression of the Republican Gentleman\'s masculine identity.  The guiding research question for this thesis is how refined Richmond taverns illustrated the prominence of gentility, and thus provided a stage for the performance of the Republican Gentleman during the early national period.  Furthermore, this research is informed by the following secondary research questions:  In what ways did gentility and republicanism shape masculine identities?  How did evolving ideas of gentility and refinement shape physical tavern space and architecture?  The broader significance of this thesis is to offer an avenue in which to further develop scholars\' understanding of the intersection of masculinity, class, and gentility during the early national period.

The present study proposes to discuss the temporal intertwining and its unfoldings in Night in the tavern (1855), of Álvares de Azevedo (1831-1852), with a view to identifying the space-time game and verifying how it articulates the narrative structure. To this end, the following theoretical contributions will be listed: Antonio Candido's article Education at night (1989), which supports the thesis on the continuity of Macário in the Night in the tavern; Forms of time and chronotope in the novel (essays of historical poetics), in which the concept of chronotope is worked by Mikhail Bakhtin (2014); and the binomial aesthetic, described by Azevedo himself in the critical preface to the second part of Lira dos vintes anos (1853). From these works, we expect to understand the artistic procedures used in the construction of time and space as indissoluble categories, as well as to raise discussions about the chronotope as a possible narrative constituent, responsible for linking one work to another, and also to contribute to the critical reading of azevedian prose
O presente trabalho propõe discutir o entrecruzamento temporal e seus desdobramentos em Noite na taverna (1855), de Álvares de Azevedo (1831-1852), com vistas a identificar o jogo espaço-tempo e verificar de que maneira ele articula a estrutura narrativa. Para tanto, serão elencados os seguintes aportes teóricos: o artigo Educação pela noite, de Antonio Candido (1989), que sustenta a tese sobre a continuidade de Macário em Noite na taverna; Formas de tempo e de cronotopo no romance (ensaios de poética histórica), no qual o conceito de cronotopo é trabalhado por Mikhail Bakhtin (2014); e a estética binômica, descrita pelo próprio Azevedo no prefácio crítico à segunda parte de Lira dos vintes anos (1853). A partir dessas obras, espera-se compreender os procedimentos artísticos empregados na construção do tempo e do espaço como categorias indissolúveis, bem como levantar discussões acerca do cronotopo como um possível constituinte narrativo, responsável pela ligação de uma obra à outra, e também contribuir para a leitura crítica da prosa azevediana

The Wilderness Road, starting in Big Lick (Roanoke today) was a primary route over the Allegheny mountains for travelers migrating to the Kentucky frontier. Ordinaries and taverns (referred to as public houses) were known to offer food and lodgings to travelers in the state capital city of Richmond, but little is known about what, if any, accommodations were available to these settlers headed westward through southwest Virginia. With the first stops along the Wilderness Road being in Montgomery County, this study sought to determine if public houses existed in this county between the years 1773-1823, and if so, where were they located and who operated them. Further, what was the typical design or plan of public houses and how would they have been furnished. What comparisons could be made between public houses in Richmond and on in southwest Virginia. County court records, including wills, appraisals, licensing records, and court order books revealed that public houses not only existed, but also there were often as many as 5 or 6 operating at one. A license had to be purchased each year from the court and names of proprietors were recorded. These listings also helped to identify structures standing today that once served as a public house. On site observations along with WPA (Work Projects Administration) reports and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources surveys documentation of historic houses in the county offered notable similarities in design and plan among five former houses selected for this study. Wills and appraisals provided some clues about furnishings. The result of this study adds an important chapter to the story of public houses in early Virginia history.

Résumé :
This thesis set out to explore the changing nature of consumption patterns in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century London through the analysis of archaeological evidence previously excavated by the Museum of London Archaeology. The aim of this research was to address existing gaps and limitations within the existing methodology related to the excavation and analysis of these environments, to establish a more holistic method of approaching consumption practices from this period, and to explore the complexities which were being performed within the setting of these establishments. To do this, a typological system for artefact classification was developed which enabled the categorization of material by their fabric, form and their associated functions. The distribution patterns of the various types and functions across three sites and five establishments in the City of London were analyzed. The material was then assessed for patterns indicating changes in consumption. Linkages from these patterns are then made between historical themes and theoretical frameworks outlined within the thesis. Particular focus will be given to developing a better understanding of how these venues changed over time based on the degree of variation that can be perceived between the late seventeenth to the late eighteenth centuries. By exploring the character of consumption practices, I will demonstrate how they work together to provide a more complete picture of the complex systems at work. During the course of this research, specific objectives have been achieved and conclusions reached which make original contributions to the wider dialogues surrounding how meaningful patterns of consumption can be perceived and interpreted through material goods from establishments of social or public consumption. The focus on the everyday materials from closed deposits related to clearance episodes (Pearce 2000) from these establishments and their how they relate to emergent and shifting patterns of social trends in consumption is what separates this thesis from other scholarship on these and similar spaces. Significantly, this research differs from the previous examples by attempting to detect social change across a variety of classes and in a variety of different settings, all brought together in relatively modest atmospheres of social and public consumption. This has allowed for both the subtle and the overt shifts in social patterns to be detected, and from there, conclusions are drawn regarding wider social ideology.
