Safety is essential for tower cranes in construction engineering, as the inner-climbing tower crane is widely used in the construction of high-rise structures, design safety, reliability and support system which can be turnover is an important prerequisite for protecting the safety of construction. By understanding the interrelationships between construction environment of Henglong Plaza Twin Towers in Shenyang city and ZSL2700 tower, the article will analyse the support system for the project. It mainly uses finite element analysis software ANSYS which can create mechanical status of modeling to analyzing the supporting structure. It can guarantee the structures rationality and the security reliability. Project Summary Shenyang municipal government square tower engineering which building height is 350.6m has the underground layer 4 and the ground 70 layer. The office building has used the frame core tube structure system. The outside frame is composed by the square shape section coagulation earth pyramid and the peripheral steel girder. The rectangular core tube was the reinforced concrete, while in the core tube outer wall has established some steel pole. This project adopt two boom tower cranes from Zhongsheng construct machine company (Nanjing).The first number tower crane is ZSL750, which maximum torque is 750tm; the second number tower cranes is ZSL2700. This paper takes the ZSL2700 tower crane as an object, studying this machines stressful condition of attachment system. The ZSL2700 tower cranes most high-torque is 2600tm, pitching arm angle ranges 85-65 .The maximum lifting load is 100t. The biggest hoisting up scope is 55m, which lifting load is 37.6t.When the crane surpasses the permission lifting load or the hoisting up moment of force, PLC can break the power implementation protection automatically. The BeSS Mansion Sarabaya apartment building is a construction project with a total building area of 86,000 m2. This apartment complex, which is located in the centre of Surabaya, includes 44 stories of Tower Premiere, 42 stories of Tower Suite, and 9 stories of Tower Podium parking area. Tower Cranes are used to transport or move materials in the construction of high-rise buildings. The objective of this thesis analysis is to figure out how many Tower Cranes are needed, as well as scheduling, operational costs, site layout, traffic management, and the HIRARC matrix. The data used were shop drawings, Tower crane specifications, and Tower Crane rental prices. According to the results of this calculating plan, two units of Tower Cranes are required to complete structural work, with a total work time of 5,592 hours. Tower Crane type MCT 205 requires a rental cost of Rp. 844,266,37 per hour, whereas Tower Crane type Tengda TC 6018 requires a rental charge of Rp. 701.184.89 per hour. On the site layout study, there are four options, and option 2 has been chosen because it is close to 0 or the minimum value, and traffic management planning uses an one gate system.

As the rapid development of modern science and technology, especially dramatic improvement in internet, domestic and foreign scientists have taken advantages of advanced technology to exploit the safety monitoring system of tower cranes. Although the tower and tower arm are crucial targets of the safety monitoring system of tower cranes, the fact is that few scientists concentrating on the internal stress and strain in tower crane when it has been loaded. Hence, it is necessary to introduce some latest developments of the safety monitoring system of tower cranes in this text, presenting some existed problems and an advanced safety monitoring system basing on infrasonic emission technology.

The article presents a method for calculating the technical condition of the tower crane on the basis of integrated monitoring of the mechanisms of the lifting structure using a digital model.The use of information technologies allows to take a new look at the issues of ensuring the safe operation of lifting mechanisms. Due to the application of these technologies, a qualitatively new method of calculating the technical condition of tower cranes on the basis of an integral-differential approach, which takes into account the score of defects, according to the regulatory documentation, is proposed. The concept of the technical condition index of the tower crane (TCItc), as an integral indicator reflecting the general condition of the nodes and mechanisms of the crane, is introduced. The use of information technologies to calculate the technical condition index of tower cranes makes it possible to integrate the geometric parameters of the tower crane and a mathematical algorithm for their evaluation, which results in a quantitative assessment of defects formed during the operation of tower cranes.

Old giant cranes in corrosive environment are in serious hidden danger of structural instability and failure, the modal analysis is an important part of dynamics analysis in the Crane Safety Evaluation to guarantee the safety of cranes. A Modal Analysis of a 28-year old 100t giant shipbuilding tower crane was done using ANSYS. Comparing with the vibration frequencies and modal shapes, Modal analysis shows that the Natural Frequency of the crane reduces from 1.0024Hz to 1.0003Hz, beside all the Modal vibration frequencies (first 10 Order) of the crane are lower than the designed value, means the strength of the tower crane has decreased; the Modal Vibration Frequencies (first 10 Order) of the tower crane are between 1 Hz and 2 Hz. The Mmodal analysis provided theoretical basis for safe use, design and transformation of this crane.

At present, there are some shortcomings in tower crane protect device. In order to reduce the difficulty of the operation, and ensure the safety of the crane, we design this monitoring system. For the purpose of improve tower crane self-control ability and self-diagnosis ability .we propose a design of tower crane monitoring system , a combination of sensor technology and wireless technology. We choose the stm32 as the master chip, and choose uC/OS-II as the operating system. All kinds of tasks could coordinate with each other, and orderly operation. UCGUI is used to realize human-machine interface. It can display real-time operating parameters of the tower crane. The central monitoring room can monitor multiple tower cranes through wireless communication technology.

Development of high-level building construction projects that require complex equipment that can be used in high-level construction, equipment used to help complete construction projects called heavy equipment. One of the heavy equipment used in high-rise buildings is a tower crane. The use and layout of tower cranes can speed up the schedule and save on project costs. Therefore many methods have been developed to determine the tower crane layout. This study will discuss determining the location of tower cranes by discussing simulations. The location will be determined based on the site map data which is processed in the form of a geometric arrangement and tower crane data specifications. Location determination is done by comparing the total travel time of several simulated locations according to several different speed criteria in a construction project. Speed criteria are divided into four times the jib speed and trolley speed. Location of the location with the total travel time will be taken as the final result. Different speed criteria will make the total travel time change. ABSTRAKPerkembangan proyek pembangunan gedung bertingkat tinggi yang semakin kompleks menyebabkan diperlukannya peralatan yang dapat mempermudah pembangunan gedung bertingkat, peralatan yang digunakan untuk membantu menyelesaikan tugas konstruksi disebut alat berat. Salah satu peralatan berat yang digunakan pada gedung bertingkat tinggi adalah tower crane. Penggunaan dan tata letak tower crane yang baik dapat mempercepat jadwal dan menghemat biaya proyek. Oleh karena itu banyak dikembangkan metode-metode untuk menentukan tata letak tower crane. Penelitian ini akan membahas penetapan letak lokasi tower crane dengan pendekatan simulasi. Letak lokasi akan ditetapkan berdasarkan data site map yang diolah dalam bentuk geometric layout dan data spesifikasi tower crane. Penetapan lokasi dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan total travel time dari beberapa lokasi yang disimulasi sesuai dengan beberapa kriteria kecepatan yang berbeda-beda pada suatu proyek konstruksi. Kriteria kecepatan terbagi menjadi empat berdasarkan besarnya kecepatan jib dan kecepatan trolley. Letak lokasi dengan total travel time terkecil akan diambil sebagai hasil akhir. Kriteria-kriteria kecepatan yang berbeda disimulasi akan membuat total travel time berubah.

The maximum wind load direction of tower crane is considered to be perpendicular to its jib. The interference effects of its different segments and across-wind loads are ignored in traditional crane safety evaluation. This study proposes a general scheme for the safety evaluation of tower cranes under fluctuating wind loads. The wind coefficients of a full-scale model of a tower crane were calculated by computational fluid dynamics, and then the time history of wind loads, simulated through the autoregressive method, were applied to the finite element model of a tower crane. The results reveal that the maximum along-wind load direction deflected 30°–60°, and the mean ratio of the absolute value of the across-wind coefficient to the along-wind coefficient of the tower crane was 8.56%, which indicated that the across-wind loads should be taken into account in wind-resistant design. Comparing the wind-induced responses of four typical wind directions, the maximum displacement, the bending stress and the axial stress of the tower crane occurred in the positive direction. Furthermore, the maximum acceleration of the cat-head was 0.028 m/s2, which met the comfort requirements of the operator. Although the tower crane met the strength and static stiffness requirements of design rules, the maximum bending stress at the junctions between the jib and the slewing platform, the counterweight and the counter-jib, exceeded the allowable stress, and the first modal of the tower crane was excited. These results warrant considering the effect of fluctuating wind loads in the safety evaluation of a tower crane.

The anti-backward-tipping device is the necessary safety device luffing jib tower crane. Based on the study of several anti-backward-tipping devices, this paper analyzes the causes and forced state of crane jib backward- tipping and proposes several factors to be put into consideration in designing anti-backward-tipping device. It proposes a design method and calculation method of dual-spring anti-backward-tipping device, which has been applied and verified in product design.

With high-rise construction increasing in city, it demands more and higher-performance tower cranes. Damages by wind to the tall and towering structures are usually very serious, but these dangers are often hidden.The paper uses the finite element software ANSYS to set up the overall modeling of the TC6010 tower crane which is produced by a company, and carry on the FEM analysis effected by wind based on it . The paper obtains the data of the displacement response of the complete machine after exerting the wind wave, and has the preliminary analysis to the result. The results show that the tower crane is a low-frequency vibrating system and easy to cause the structure resonance, the crane tower may damage in the boom firstly under the action of wind load.

In the current crane industry, the traditional allowable stress method is still the main method for designing tower crane jib. As a result, the reliability of the tower crane jib cannot be given quantitatively. In this paper, by using the probabilistic method, the reliability of a tower crane jib is worked out, and a design way based on the reliability for the tower crane jib is provided.

Tower crane accidents frequently occur in the construction industry, often resulting in casualties. The utilization of tower cranes involves multiple phases including installation, usage, climbing, and dismantling. Moreover, the hazards associated with the use of tower cranes can change and be propagated during phase alternation. However, past studies have paid less attention to the differences and hazard propagations between phases. In this research, these hazards are investigated during different construction phases. The propagation of hazards between phases is analyzed to develop appropriate safety management protocols according to each specific phase. Finally, measures are suggested to avoid an adverse impact between the phases. A combined method is also proposed to identify hazard propagation, which serves as a reference and contributes to safety management and accident prevention during different tower crane phases in the construction process.

Tower Crane merupakan jenis excavator yang diberi suatu attachment yang berupa boom, dengan bantuan kabel baja kemudian digerakkan dengan generator. Alat ini dapat mengangkat/memindahkan material dari elevasi rendah ke elevasi yang lebih tinggi demikian juga sebaliknya. Penggunaan tower crane ini umumnya pada pekerjaan pembangunan gedung bertingkat. Masalah yang biasa dihadapi oleh kontraktor dalam pengoperasian tower crane adalah biaya pengoperasian yang cukup mahal baik biaya sewa maupun biaya operasional, dan juga efektivitas pengoperasian tower crane terhadap kinerja proyek. Perlu suatu perancanaan mengenai efektivitas pengoperasian tower crane. Dengan memperkirakan durasi pengoperasian tower crane pada setiap item pekerjaan, maka dapat memperkirakan waktu pengoperasian tower crane secara keseluruhan. Pada studi kasus yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini, penulis mencoba untuk melakukan perhitungan mengenai kebutuhan waktu untuk pengoperasian tower crane, penelitian ini akan fokus pada pengoperasian tower crane pada pekerjaan pengecoran struktur kolom saja. Untuk kebutuhan waktu pengoperasian tower crane pada pekerjaan pengecoran kolom K1 dengan luas 0,32 m² sebanyak 50 unit, dapat diselesaikan dalam waktu 23 hari dengan jam kerja normal yaitu 9 jam per hari. Namun waktu tersebut tidak termasuk apabila terjadi beberapa kendala dalam pengoperasian tower crane selama di lapangan, seperti kendala cuaca buruk, bencana alam, kerusakan dan lain-lain yang dapat terjadi pada saat pelaksanaan di lapangan.

The combined tower crane foundation is widely used in construction sites due to its advanced utilization rate. However, the immature construction method, unavoidable construction deviation during the installation process, and influence of the surrounding construction generally cause the lattice columns to tilt. As the main force transmission components of the tower crane foundation, once its stress and deformation exceed the limit, the entire tower crane will collapse, which requires engineers to accurately control its safety. Therefore, the objective of the work reported here was to study the safety of the lattice columns during operation. A geometrically nonlinear finite element model was utilized to simulate the strain and deformation capacity of tower cranes under various working conditions, including vertical and inclined working conditions, operation and shutdown conditions, and conditions with the tower boom in different orientations. In addition, this study combines the simulation with the on-site measurement. The results of on-site measurement were also recorded to verify the correctness of the proposed calculation model. It was concluded that the inclination of lattice columns has a significant effect on the deformation and stress of the lattice columns of the tower crane foundation, and the measured data and the calculated data trend are consistent. Engineers can accurately judge the safety of the lattice columns of the tower crane foundation through geometric nonlinear finite element model analysis and on-site monitoring to avoid the failure of the lattice columns and the occurrence of safety accidents.

This is a paper about different ways of revealing materials, and a theory of organization. It moves through a kaleidoscope of perspectives which reveal the tower crane as made through its relations with a series of different ways of seeing – engineering and mathematics, capitalist economics, and a workplace labour process. It employs a wide variety of sources, including some interviews that I have done with crane drivers. I then move into an account of the modernist fascination with technology, particularly Soviet constructivism. The latter provides the theoretical scaffolding which allows me to see the crane as a temporary stabilization of structure, and structure as an arrangement of planes and lines of force which allows certain moves just as it prevents others. This is a way of saying that an adequate understanding of ‘organization’ requires thinking multiples and relations. Nodding towards Deleuze and Guattari towards the end, I suggest that cranes are good to think with for these multiple purposes, but that any assemblage would do.

Tower crane plays a vital role in materials delivery in construction projects. General contractors often use technical and commercial quotes to calculate number of cranes and their engagement duration in project, and they often have to deal with commercial and time risks. The main reason for this approach is the lack of standardised methodologies for calculating tower cranes engagement. Identifying the optimal number of cranes, their location and duration of engagement at the building site are the major factors that can reduce the risks considering the time and cost by increasing productivity and thus decreasing the required time. Calculation will be based on different production parameters -space per worker, concrete production per crane or worker, lifting time. This paper presents a methodology for calculating the required number of cranes and their optimal positioning. Proposed model for crane engagement optimisation is developed using the Critical Path Method in Primavera P6 software.

Purpose With tower cranes being the site hubs, thoroughly planning and managing their operations can result in better construction performance. As urban spaces become more constricted, overlapping working radii of tower cranes becomes inevitable. While project planners are concerned with safety hazards, research has not comprehensively addressed workload distribution and synchronization of overlapping cranes. Therefore, this study aims at exploring the impact of overlapping cranes, used on high-rise buildings, on operational flexibility which is the balance between schedule duration, crane utilization and safety. Design/methodology/approach A simulation model was developed and applied on a real project to analyze and compare the impacts of different overlap sizes. Seven scenarios of different overlap sizes, i.e. different number of tasks falling in the overlap space, were executed in the model; their results were plotted and analyzed. Findings The outcomes result from several compounded factors such as the experience of planners and crane operators, the sequencing of critical versus non-critical activities and the overall effort and care taken when planning operations of overlapping cranes. Increasing overlap size can be beneficial or unfavorable depending on how properly planners allocate overlapping cranes to workload demand, keeping in mind that there are certain trade-offs while achieving operational flexibility. Originality/value While project planners are concerned with safety hazards associated with crane overlaps, research has not been comprehensively nor proactively addressing the workload distribution and synchronization of overlapping crane processes. This study contributes to science by addressing the need to harness the flexibility in using overlapping tower cranes while minimizing the resulting interruptions and safety risks. This study sheds light on the potential benefits of allowing cranes to overlap while considering their collision free operations. Operational flexibility is seen as the balance between achieving shorter schedule durations and higher crane utilizations while maintaining collision free motion paths.

Gedung apartemen One Signature Gallery Surabaya merupakan proyek bangunan gedung dengan jumlah lantai sebanyak 33 lantai. Bangunan ini memiliki total luas bangunan gedung sebesar ±66.611 m2. Dalam proses konstruksinya, alat berat yang dipakai sebagai alat bantu untuk mengangkut material berupa Tower Crane. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menghitung jumlah dan menghitung biaya operasional Tower Crane. Data yang diperlukan dalam pengerjaan skripsi ini meliputi gambar struktur, spesifikasi Tower Crane, dan harga sewa alat berat. Data-data tersebut kemudian diolah dengan menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Output yang didapat dari data-data yang ada berupa jumlah Tower Crane yang dibutuhkan dan biaya pengadaan dan operasional. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan, Tower Crane yang dibutuhkan untuk melakukan pekerjaan struktur atas sebanyak 2 Tower Crane dengan jumlah waktu pelaksanaan sebanyak 4.790 Jam. Untuk total biaya untuk pengadaan dan operasional Tower Crane sebesar Rp. 4.878.000.000,00.

Among publications and studies on the exploitation of tower cranes and mechanization, the problem of their rational choice and a techno-economic analysis of the exploitation is not disclosed sufficiently. Based on a comprehensive study of tower cranes of Ukrainian and foreign production, a comparison of technical characteristics, market value of exploitation and established relationships between these parameters, recommendations were developed on the rational use of tower cranes depending on the construction conditions. The work uses empirical and theoretical research methods. The research materials were obtained by observation, measurement and unstructured interview (knowledge transfer interview). The obtained information and hypotheses of the authors were analyzed and formed in the graphic model. For the study, the KB-674 (676) and Liebherr 280 EC-H12 Litronic models were selected. According to the technical passport of the KB-674 (676) tower crane, the specifications did not have enough information for comparison with similar ones in the Liebherr 280 EC-H12. In this regard, the operations of the KB-674 crane located at the construction site of the residential complex "Odessa Boulevard", v. Novoselki were explored and studied. According to the results of the observation, the dependence of the hoist speed on the mass of the load was revealed.The cost of exploiting tower cranes directly depends on the time of their use and the conditions of their exploitation. The parameters of the tower crane, such as their height, “degree of novelty”, etc., are accepted the same for both models. Based on the data obtained, simplified formulas for calculating the cost of exploitation of KB-674 and Liebherr 280 EC-H 12 were compiled. Using the Microsoft Excel software package, we obtain the calculation results in tabular and graphical forms. As a result of our research, it was found that the use of tower cranes KB-674 (676) is advisable mainly for building large-panel type construction with a height of not more than 80 m and for the duration of work no more than 2.5 years. The KB-674 crane model needs further modernization of operational characteristics, because of the gradually growing in complexity of the purposes it was created for and demands of modern construction is growing.

Intelligent control is essential for tower cranes because the safety and work efficiency of construction. Firstly, an intelligent control system using ARM MCU and its auxiliary equipments, human-machine interface and control strategy were designed for tower cranes to realize monitoring and trouble shooting. Secondly, a fuzzy PID controller was adopted for tower crane. In the end, the experiment was made to test the intelligent control system. The test results show that the intelligent control system can achieve the national standard on tower cranes; also, it can save time, increase work efficiency and provide other auxiliary functions; in addition, the fuzzy PID controller is superior to conventional PID in intelligent control for tower cranes; accordingly, the intelligent control system has a promising application in the tower cranes.

Modular construction, which involves unit production in factories and on-site work, has benefits such as low cost, high quality, and short duration, resulting from the controlled factory environment utilized. An efficient tower crane lifting plan ensures successful high-rise modular project completion. For improved efficiency, the lifting plan should minimize the reaching distance of the tower crane, because this distance directly affects the tower crane capacity, which is directly related to crane operation cost. In situations where units are lifted from trailers, the trailer-to-tower crane distance can have a significant impact on the tower crane operation efficiency. However, optimization of this distance to improve efficiency has not been sufficiently considered. This research proposes a genetic algorithm optimization model that suggests optimized tower crane and trailer locations. The case study results show that through the proposed model, the project manager can reflect the optimal location selection and optimal tower crane selection options with minimal cost.

Tower crane is a kind of construction machinery which be widely used in building, bridge, electric power construction. The factor for hoisting a grounded load is one of main factors for dynamic analysis and structure design of tower crane. Different structural forms of tower crane have different effects on the factor for hoisting a grounded load. The finite element models of QTZ125 tower crane with different top-structure form are build and the first six order inherent frequencies and vibration modes are analyzed. Then the factors for hoisting a grounded load at lifting velocity of 0.2~0.5m/s under lifting operation condition are calculated. Based on the results, the influence of the different top-structure of the tower crane to the dynamic characteristic and the factor for hoisting a grounded load is prominent, and the factor for hoisting a grounded load of support-rod type tower crane is less than the tower-cap type tower crane.

In this paper, we share our experience in information collection, management and online effective life calculation of tower crane. We propose a framework to complete collecting, classing, storing and processing of the working parameters of tower crane through wireless transmission and some commercial software, such as Visual Basic and SQL Server, based on the monitoring system of tower crane group. The load spectrum of tower crane can be gotten by numerical statement of above-mentioned information. Thus, the real-time effective life of tower crane is calculated and displayed directly through our algorithm. This life can be taken as a reliable reference in the safety detecting of tower crane. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by a simple example of tower crane hoisting mechanism assessment. The results show that the system is accurate and reliable. The main advantage of the new method is its simplicity of implementation in lack of the load spectrum.

The quality of preparations carried out before building work commences has a significant impact on the smooth running and overall financial costs of a construction project. The use of construction machinery, which is crucial with regard to the efficiency of the construction process, plays an important role. In building construction, the machines in question are mainly tower cranes. The paper presents a new method for assessing the utilisation of tower cranes over time during the construction of reinforced concrete monolithic structures. The method, which contributes to the efficient utilisation of such cranes, is based on a mathematical simulation model that predicts the work cycles of a tower crane during a work shift when work is being performed on individual construction sub-processes. Construction sub-processes are analysed in detail with regard to the service provided to them by a tower crane. Data can also be obtained from binding construction schedules and boundary conditions, which in every case are for a specific executed construction project. The simulation model of the work of tower cranes has been developed for use in software applications. The created application expands the possibilities of smart construction site design in a digital environment and can also be used directly from an internet browser.

The paper discusses the applicability of a riskbased approach in the “personnel-machinery-production environment” system at the facilities running tower cranes through the introduction of IT-technologies that provide open communication of the staff, management team of the operating organizations, and the National Supervisory Authority, to reduce the accident rate. Materials and Methods. An example of a hazardous production facility running tower cranes is given. Materials on the analysis of operational status of tower cranes within the framework of the current legislation in the field of industrial safety are used. The necessity for innovations and transformations, one of whose methods is the risk-based approach allowing for the implementation of all required levels of control, is identified.Research Results. The stages of introduction of the riskoriented approach for tower crane operators implemented through IT-technologies using Web-applications on safety management under the tower crane operation based on the hazard analysis and risk assessment in gamut, algorithmically associated with the electronic block key of its local security system, are determined.Discussion and Conclusions. The application of a risk-based approach in the “personnel-machinery-production environment” system at the facilities running tower cranes through the introduction of IT-technologies will ensure the proper operation of all departments and each participant of the operation, as well as provide Supervisory bodies with an opportunity to access information on the operation for the implementation of control and supervision functions remotely.

Tower cranes are the most commonly used large-scale equipment on construction site. Because workers can’t always pay attention to the environment at the top of the head, it is often difficult to avoid accidents when heavy objects fall. Therefore, safety construction accidents such as struck-by often occurs. In order to address crane issue, this research recorded video data by a tower crane camera, labeled the pictures, and operated image recognition with the MASK R-CNN method. Furthermore, The RGB color extraction was performed on the identified mask layer to obtain the pixel coordinates of workers and dangerous zone. At last, we used the pixel and actual distance conversion method to measure the safety distance. The contribution of this research to safety problem area is twofold: On one hand, without affecting the normal behavior of workers, an automatic collection, analysis, and early-warning system was established. On the other hand, the proposed automatic inspection system can help improve the safety operation of tower crane drivers.

When working, tower crane is affected by natural environment and is subjected to complex various loads. So it is not very easy to analyze its dynamic performance at system level. Some researchers have done some work as to simulation and analysis of tower crane, in order to study its dynamic performance. While much of their work based on grid body model but not flexible body model. This paper used SolidWorks and ADAMS to build the virtual prototype of a tower crane based on ADAMS flexible body. After the co-simulation, which joined ADAMS with SolidWorks, force of the connection between tower crane base and the strengthened section of the crane was recorded and analyzed. And so was the acceleration of the tower crane’s lifting rig. Succeeding in the application of Virtual Prototyping Technology based on ADAMS flexible body, this study can be used to direct the work, operation and fault diagnosis of tower crane, and lay a basis for further studies.

Tower cranes are made of steel structure, which account for more than half of their weights. Therefore, steel structre optimization of tower cranes is important for the development of design technology of tower cranes. This paper develops a systemic optimization method for tower cranes based on Ansys OPT, combined with finite element analysis (FEA) and stability theory. This mathod is firstly used in the optimization of the boom of luffing jib tower cranes. New optimization model of the boom of luffing jib tower cranes is introduced and the corresponding optimization program is developed. The integration of the calibrating of overall stability and single-limb stability of luffing jib tower cranes, FEA and OPT is realized by extracting some parametes from FEA results, such as weight and axial force. Rapid optimization of the boom of luffing jib tower cranes is realized by the parametrization of non-design variables. Direct reading of optimization results is realized by the discretization of design variables. Finally, the boom of a tower crane with movable arm is optimized with the optimization program to demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the optimization method.

Abstract The productivity of work performed at construction sites is primarily dependent on the effective deployment and use of construction machinery. Nevertheless, manufacturers do not state the actual performance of their machinery because it is difficult to determine due to its dependence on the specific conditions present at each construction site. One of the most important machines used in the construction of buildings is the tower crane, which provides secondary transport of material onsite. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of such machines using a deterministic or stochastic approach, a relatively extensive and exact set of data describing the activities of a given tower crane needs to be prepared. These data describe the real requirements of ongoing construction sub-processes with regard to the utilisation of tower cranes. This contribution concerns the analysis of key construction sub-processes during the building of monolithic reinforced concrete structures in connection with secondary transport at the construction site; in particular, it describes the preparation and processing of this data for the evaluation of real time requirements placed on tower cranes.

Supporting system of external suspension tower crane is the key factor which impairs the safety of the tower cranes. In this article, the problem is studied about the influence of different supporting point stiffness on the force of the tower crane external suspension. Based on the structural mechanics theory, the displacement of the lower statically indeterminate beam and the horizontal displacement of the upper statically indeterminate truss are solved firstly, then the stiffness of the supporting point on the lower beam and the entirety stiffness of the upper horizontal combination struts can be obtained. This paper presents an analysis in attachment spacing of tower cranes. Both the support spacing under the rigid support and the flexible support are obtained for this purpose. For deriving the rigid support spacing, differential equation is used. The principle is used for calculating the support spacing, which the extended segment has the same Euler critical force with the independent segment. The flexible support distance is obtained by setting the integrated stiffness matrix zero, which is equivalent to structural instability. The order of the overall stiffness matrix is big when the tower crane is attached many times. In order to calculate more convenient for solving the matrix determinant, a transfer matrix method is adopted. To verify the influence of the flexibility caused by the support device, an example is carried out by both rigid and flexible support situations for this purpose, and the support spacing is computed numerically. Numerical results for the support distances of a tower crane will be presented and discussed.

The construction industry continues to be one of the industries with the highest accident rate. Tower cranes have always been the central component of many construction operations. With recent advancements in tower cranes, more efforts have been made for their safe operation. The impact of natural environmental factors on the operation of tower cranes cannot be ignored, especially the impact of the wind load, which can be found in construction regulations worldwide. Therefore, a large number of recent studies have focused on exploring different approaches to improving the impact of loads, such as improved feedback controllers and collocated sensors. However, there are few studies on the impact of the flexible cable pendulum system under wind load. To quantify the impact in this paper, first, the swing model of the hanging and the model of sling fluctuation are proposed as the base. Second, the flexible cable pendulum model is designed for the impact of tower cranes under wind load. By field experiments, the applicability of the model in practical use is analyzed. A case of the Crane Beach Hydropower Station is investigated as a demonstration. With MATLAB programming, the variation in the hanging impulse with wind speed is shown, indicating that the maximum wind speed should be 12 m/s if the factors that people can control are considered. When considering the factors that can be harmful to humans, the maximum wind speed is 17 m/s. With the proposed model, the impacts of wind load on tower crane operation can be quantified without actual deployment, offering a more straightforward quantitative tool for safe regulations and engineering management.

The software system was designed with the modular structure and multithread technology and friendly interface were designed, which show the real-time key information of tower crane safety monitoring and protection system. The system was verified in Xiang Tan Jiang Lu Electric Group Company Limited and the working stability of sensors and real time display function of the acquisition information system were tested. It is proved in practice that the system is consistent with the tower crane safety monitoring requirements of GB

The dynamics of Tower Crane is complicated by wind excitation which complicates the wind-induced vibration response analysis. The random wind-induced response analysis of tower crane is presented based on finite element method and virtual excitation method. The pulsating wind loads change into multiple-point correlation stationary excitation. This paper uses Davenport’s wind speed spectrum which does not change with height, and considers multiplepoint correlation of wind-induction. The tower crane was employed as a numerical example; the response spectra and Mean Square Root (RMS) of the tower crane were obtained by wind-induced vibration. The results indicate that the vibration of the tower crane showed a greater response in low frequency with the One-third Octave acceleration RMS being lower. Finally, the influences of the wind-induced vibration on comfort were analyzed.

Article describe processes of modeling of dynamic loadings on on a tower crane jib and represent their in analytic and, graphic kinds with using of modern computer technologies. Complexity of such tasks is concluded in depending these characteristics from load characteristics of the crane, weights and inertial parameters of elements of the mechanism of the lifting of loads, having a nonlinear appearance. The proposed procedures of modeling allow to reduce time and costs of such calculations at least in several hundred times and effectively to carry out researches in any usage mode and on all design stages of tower cranes, providing good visual presentation of received results.

The guide wheel pressure can reflect the upper horizontal loads and unbalanced moment, and climbing press reflects the upper vertical loads. This article is based on the climbing press and guide wheel pressure to analyze loads state of the upper part of the tower crane when climbing, ensure the upper load values in a safe range when the tower crane climbing.

This paper focuses on the issues tower crane safety hard to be comprehensive evaluated, the machine learning theory is introduced to the tower crane safety analysis. Firstly, collect the tower crane operating parameters as samples, the SVM classifier make supervised-learning on the samples data, established classification model and running parameters are used to evaluate the secure state. In addition, the effect of different kernel functions and parameters on SVM classifier is discussed, parameters are selected after optimization by mixed method of cross-validation and grid search. Experiments show that optimized SVM model can judge Tower crane safety correctly.
