The evolving pattern of Hungary's agri-food trade is analysed using recently developed empirical procedures based on the classic Balassa index and its symmetric transformation. The extent of trade specialisation exhibits a declining trend; Hungary has lost comparative advantage for a number of product groups over time. The indices of specialisation have also tended to converge. For particular product groups, the indices display a less persistent pattern. They are stable for product groups with comparative disadvantage, but product groups with weak to strong comparative advantage show significa

Abstract Globalisation is the extent and intensity with which a country’s production, trade and capital flows are integrated into the world economy. Our focus is on globalisation through international trade. We analyse the main theoretical predictions about the effects of global trade integration on trade patterns between countries of different levels of income and technology and compare this analysis to our investigation of Brazil’s trade integration between 1990 and 2016. Particularly, we investigate whether Brazil’s recent trajectory has been directed to a pattern of regressive specialisati

The relative factor endowments alone do not satisfactorily explain agricultural trade flows in the CEE countries. Nowadays, given the availability of data, the tools used for the analysis can be complemented and enriched with new methodologies and techniques that go beyond the traditional approach. This new possibility opens a research gap, as new, data-driven, ways of understanding international trade, can help our understanding of the underlying phenomena.
