Résumé :
The concepts "connection", "parallel transport" and "transport along paths" are axiomatically defined. In differentiable bundles, bijective mappings between the sets of connections, parallel transports and transports along paths satisfying some additional conditions are found; in particular, the equivalence between the concepts "connection" and "(axiomatically defined) parallel transport" is established. Some results, which are specific for topological and vector bundles, are presented.

The axiomatic approach to parallel transport theory is partially discussed. Bijective correspondences between the sets of connections, (axiomatically defined) parallel transports and transports along paths that satisfy some additional conditions are constructed. This article proposes a Markov Chain Monte Carlo ( MCMC ) rendering algorithm based on a family of guided transition kernels. The kernels exploit properties of ensembles of light transport paths, which are distributed according to the lighting in the scene, and utilize this information to make informed decisions for guiding local path sampling. Critically, our approach does not require caching distributions in world space, saving time and memory, yet it is able to make guided sampling decisions based on whole paths. We show how this can be implemented efficiently by organizing the paths in eac

Résumé :
The yard template problem in container ports determines the assignment of space to store containers for the vessels, which could impact container truck paths. Actually, the travel time of container truck paths is uncertain. This paper considers the uncertainty from two perspectives: (1) the yard congestion in the context of yard truck interruptions, (2) the correlation among adjacent road sections (links). A mixed-integer programming model is proposed to minimize the travel time of container trucks. The reliable shortest path, which takes the correlation among links into account is firstly dis

Résumé :
In transport problems of Monge's types, the total cost of a transport map is usually an integral of some function of the distance, such as |x - y|p. In many real applications, the actual cost may naturally be determined by a transport path. For shipping two items to one location, a "Y shaped" path may be preferable to a "V shaped" path. Here, we show that any probability measure can be transported to another probability measure through a general optimal transport path, which is given by a vector measure in our setting. Moreover, we define a new distance on the space of probability measures whi

With the advances in video compression and networking techniques, the last ten years have witnessed an explosive growth of video applications over the Internet. However, the service model of the current best-effort network was never engineered to handle video traffic and, as a result, video applications still suffer from varying and unpredictable network conditions, in terms of bandwidth, packet loss and delay. To address these problems, a lot of innovative techniques have been proposed and researched. Among them, scalable video coding is a promising one to cope with the dynamics of the ava

Les interactions fluides-roche se font sous plusieurs formes : diffusion à l'état solide, percolation aux joints de grains et pression-solution. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable and fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor neuron loss. Although pathological mutations exist in >15 genes, the mechanism(s) underlying ALS are unknown. FUS is one such gene and encodes the nuclear RNA-binding protein (RBP), fused in sarcoma (FUS), which actively shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Intriguingly, nearly half of the ALS mutations identified in FUS cause this protein to mislocalize, suggesting that FUS localization is relevant to disease. Tracer tests were conducted using an experimental protocol that allows time-variable transit time distributions (TTDs) to be calculated from data. Résumé :
A new glacial geomorphology map covers approximately 415,000 km2 in a core region of the Laurentide Ice Sheet in Nunavut. The compilation builds on recent and legacy maps and is supplemented by visual digitization of glacigenic features using high-resolution digital elevation (ArcticDEM) and Landsat 8 images. From this unprecedented, detailed inventory of >156,000 features and >14,000 field observations, we identify various glacial landsystems, many of which are entirely new and others that are significantly modified or updated. These include ice streams, palimpsest ice f

Résumé :
The paper investigates the determinants of household energy spending and energy budget shares, with a focus on understanding their non-linear relationship with income, and the presence of economies of scale. The analysis is based on a unique, harmonized collection of official household surveys from 13 Latin American countries. This dataset allows distinguishing between expenditures on electricity, domestic gas, and fuel for private transportation, providing a comprehensive distributional view of the energy spending profile of the residential sector. The estimated empirical Engel curves behave

Résumé :
Preferential flow appears to be the rule rather than the exception in field soils and should be considered in the quantitative description of solute transport in the unsaturated zone of heterogeneous formations on the field scale. This study focused on both experimental monitoring and computer simulations to identify important features of preferential flow in the natural environment. The specific objectives of this research were: (1) To conduct dye tracing and multiple tracer experiments on undisturbed field plots to reveal information about the flow velocity, spatial prevalence, and time evol

Résumé :
The Nordic Rural Youth Panel has synthesized a report outlining 40 actionable recommendations for making rural areas in the Nordic region more attractive for young people. This paper addresses the ongoing trend of young people moving to cities, highlighting the need for better public transportation, a variety of housing options, and education that connects to local job markets in rural areas. The panel wants to change the common view that success and a good life can only be found in cities, showing instead that rural areas have a lot to offer. The report expands on several key areas: - Transpo
