Résumé :
Abstract There has recently been a significant increase in interest regarding the prevalence of microplastics in bottled water. Previous studies have shown that the composition of many of the microplastics in bottled water is consistent with the materials of the bottle and bottle cap. The focus of this study is to quantify microplastic particle generation from the cap and bottle interaction during open and close cycles. Nile Red dye was used for the detection of microplastics >4.7 μm in size. Microplastic contamination levels in the water were found to increase as the bottle cap is open

Microplastics (MP) have been detected in bottled mineral water across the world. Because only few MP particles have been reported in ground water-sourced drinking water, it is suspected that MP enter the water during bottle cleaning and filling. However, until today, MP entry paths were not revealed. For the first time, this study provides findings of MP from the well to the bottle including the bottle washing process. At four mineral water bottlers, five sample types were taken along the process: raw and deferrized water samples were filtered in situ; clean bottles were sampled right after th

Many people choose bottled drinking water because it has been processed and meets drinking water quality standards so it is safe for consumption. Based on data from the Indonesian Bottled Drinking Water Companies Association, in 2014, Indonesians consumed 23.1 billion liters of bottled drinking water, an increase of 11.3 percent compared to 2013 which was only 20.48 billion liters One of the reasons the product does not sell in the market is the weakness of production management, especially the lack of precision in the production process. The growth of the packaged beverages market in Indonesia is overgrowing. One sector of packaged beverages is carbonated beverages and bottled water. The main problem with packaged beverages containing dissolved gases is maintaining product quality during shelf life. Packaging materials and packaging lids cause a decrease in dissolved gas levels in beverages. Therefore, this study aims to analyze leaks in polyethylene terephthalate and glass bottles so that can use them to estimate the shelf life of the product. Résumé :
Abstract Microbial contamination is a major concern in oil/gas system or industrial water operation where it can result in multiple major corrosion issues and efficiency losses. Chemical treatment is the primary means to control microbial contamination, but due to changes in temperature and water sources, this results in major shifts in the microbial levels and populations which can influence the efficacy of these treatments. Due to the shifts in the number of bacteria and the change in the dominant microbial species, optimal dosage of biocide is very difficult. Inadequate dosage regimen will

Infant formula is a breastmilk substitute fed to babies when mums are unable or do not want to breastfeed. In the UK, almost three quarters of babies will have consumed infant formula by six weeks of age, and almost all will have by six months (McAndrew et al., 2012). Formula fed babies are at greater risk of gastrointestinal infections than breastfed babies because breastfeeding is protective against infections as it helps babies’ immune systems develop, and because bottles of formula are at risk of bacterial contamination. Bacterial contamination is thought to occur in two ways; first, powde

Résumé :
This report examines a novel methodology for approximate prediction of the on-bottom kinematics in shallow waters and shore approach regions. The method involves simulation of generic shallow water scenarios in the Danish Hydraulic Institute MIKE software by assuming a range of seabed slopes and sea states. The simulation results are compiled in a database and a machine learning model is fitted for fast extraction of the desired surface or bottom data. The outcome of this scope of work is very useful when a pipeline stability assessment is required in shallow water areas, where no site-specifi

Résumé :
Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries have made notable progress in reducing income inequality; however, the extent to which water and sanitation may foster inequalities remains unclear. In this sector, disparities emerge as lower-income households may encounter reduced access to clean water, utilize less water, or bear a disproportionately higher financial burden than higher-income households. In this paper, we investigate latter source of inequality in the water and sanitation sector in LAC. We analyze and compare inequality measures for water expenditures and income for Brazil, Co

Résumé :
The Global Ocean Data Analysis Project (GLODAP) is a synthesis effort that provides high-quality, quality-controlled ocean biogeochemical bottle data with annual-updates, playing a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the Earth's oceans and their complex biogeochemical processes. This deliverable covers the GLODAP annual updates under the EuroSea funding, as well as the automatization of the quality control process of the data. Under the EuroSea funding, GLODAP has received three updates (GLODAPv2.2020, GLODAPv2.2021 and GLODAPv2.2022) with a total number of 245 cruises added, and in

Résumé :
The Army Climate Strategy has identified goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to reach net-zero Army GHG emissions by 2050. Producing fossil-fuel-based plastics releases GHG emissions and plastic bottles are difficult to dispose, especially in contingency locations. Soldiers prefer hydrating with plastic water bottles, which leads to GHG emissions. This project investigates using bioplastics for water bottles. These bioplastics are produced from natural materials and can break down faster with alternative disposal methods, such as composting. Challenges include finding a material wit

Résumé :
The extension of the PRCI on bottom stability (OBS) software's applicability to shallow water is assessed. Version 3 of the software has a limitation on water depth; only depths greater than 6 m (20 ft) are accepted. This limitation is likely related to the increasing inaccuracy of linear wave theory as the wave height to water depth ratio increases, as well as caution about breaking wave limits. The usage of linear wave theory inside the software can be categorized into two different types: Linear regular waves - these are used in the Level 1 module to determine the motions of the water par
