The xerophytic scrub located on the lava field produced by the Xitle volcano has been almost completely destroyed by the urban sprawl of Mexico City. The Pedregal de San Ángel Ecological reserve (1.77 km2) offers protection to one of the most important remnant portions. Despite such protection status, this plant community is presently still affected by invasion of exotic species, pollution, illegal extraction of selected species, and recurrent fires. Based on three specimens, we document the occurrence of Tantilla wilcoxi in the Mexican state of Jalisco. This species was found at two localities, 2.9 km apart, both in the ecotone between xerophytic scrub and oak forest in the arid plains of the municipality of Ojuelos de Jalisco in the northeastern portion of the state.

Monte Grande mountain range is a small (41.8 km~) area located in the north San Luis Potosi high plateau. The characteristic vegetation include oakscrub, pinyon woodland and three types of xerophytic scrub. The flora of this area comprises 74 families, 242 genera and 397 species; 45 of these species represent new records for the San Luis Potosi high plateau.

We present a new record of Lewis’s Woodpecker, Melanerpes lewis (Gray, 1849), a rare winter visitor to northern Mexico, in a riparian-grassland corridor at La Regina, Buenaventura Municipality, Chihuahua, on 11–12 January 2014. The record represents the fourth record of this species in the state, and the first record for both the northern portion of the Chihuahua region and the Mexican ecoregion level IV “Foothills and Plains with grasslands, xerophytic scrub and conifer oak forests”. We also comment on its current status and distribution in Mexico.

We report an adult male specimen of the snake Pantherophis emoryi from xerophytic scrub habitat in the Municipality of Real de Asientos, Aguascalientes, México. This specimen represents the first state record of P. emoryi from Aguascalientes and extends the known distribution of the species 107 km in a straight line west-northwest from the nearest previous record. Our specimen was found in habitat that is under heavy agricultural pressure, and recently, threatened by mining. This may indicate that other Chihuahuan Desert taxa may be found in this area.
