In this paper we discuss the professional activity of Leopoldo Nachbin (1922-1993) in the period in which he worked at National Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Brazil (FNFi/UB, in Portuguese) until his retirement by Institute of Mathematics of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IM/UFRJ, in Portuguese). We identify the influence played by some mathematicians such as G. Mammana (1893-1980), L. Schwartz (1915-2002), A. Monteiro (1907-1980), A. Weil (1906-1998), J. Dieudonné (1906-1992), M. Stone (1903-1989), and A. A. Albert (1905-1972) in the professional training of L. Nachbin. We also address the serious difficulties he encountered in the Mathematics Department of FNFi when he was entered in the competition, opened in 1950, for the post of full Professor (Professor Catedrático) of Mathematics and Superior Analysis of FNFi. We emphasize in the paper, that the period from 1947 to the 1960s marks the most creative and productive phase in terms of scientific research in the academic life of L. Nachbin.

AbstractThe Western Palaearctic genus Helicobosca Bezzi, 1906 is described in detail and its systematic position discussed. The monophyly of the calyptrate families Tachinidae, Rhinophoridae, Sarcophagidae and Calliphoridae is reviewed. Helicobosca is removed from its current position within the subfamily Paramacronychiinae of the Sarcophagidae and transferred to the Calliphoridae, where a new subfamily Helicoboscinae Verves, 1980, stat.n., is erected for its reception. The third stage larva of H. palpalis (Robineau-Desvoidy) is described for the first time.

The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), has a genetic system of great diversity and dynamic nature. This results in an enormous adaptability to a range of habitat conditions. Its genetic diversity is exemplified by the existence of color mutants (Tower 1906; Boiteau 1980, 1985).In the summer of 1986, a red-body mutant male beetle was found in a potato field on the grounds of the Research Station in Fredericton, N.B., Canada. No other red beetles could be found in spite of frequent monitoring of beetle populations. The specimen retains the normal black maculation throughout but all pale yellow to flavous areas of normal beetles have been replaced by the color red (Scarlet 19/3 of the Royal Horticultural Society Colour Charts, 1942). To the best of my knowledge, this is the first report of a red Colorado potato beetle in Canada. Previously, red potato beetles had only been reported from the semi-desertic area of Toluca, near Mexico City (Tower 1906).

AIMS: To review the historical reports on antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) from the early years of the 20th century; to outline the cardinal features of the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) from 1983 on, including clinical criteria, etiopathogenesis and current therapy.METHODS: Literature review using PubMed. Articles on the history of aPL and APS were selected.RESULTS: The original aPL were described in patients with syphilis yet in 1906 by Wassermann. A first definition of lupus anticoagulant was proposed in 1963,while the anticardiolipin antibody (aCL) test was depicted twenty years later. The APS, initially reported by Hughes in 1985as the “aCL syndrome”, is one of the most prevalent acquired thrombophilia. Venous and arterial thrombosis, associated or not to pregnancy morbidity, comprise the main features. It is a novel disorder firstly associated to systemic lupus erythematosus. A primary form of APS was put forward in 1989, and many APS variants are currently known. Lifelong, full-dose anticoagulation is the mainstream for treatment of thrombotic APS. In obstetric APS, the combination of acetil-salicilic acid and enoxoparin has been a mostly effective therapy.CONCLUSIONS: The sequential characterization of aPL since Wassermann in 1906, and later of the APS in the 1980-thies, is a rather interesting example of how a new entity is sketched step by step. APS is an intriguing novel cause of autoimmune thrombophilia, with a complex pathogenesis and a plethora of clinical and laboratory abnormalities. Treatment is based on life-long anticoagulation.

As cotas do rio Negro vem sendo medidas, diariamente, desde setembro de 1902. O presente trabalho baseou-se em dados colhidos entre os anos de 1903 a 1999. As cinco maiores enchentes aconteceram em: 1953 (29,69m), 1976 (29,61m), 1989 (29,42m), 1922 (29,35m) e 1909 (29,17m). As cinco maiores vazantes aconteceram em: 1963 (13,65m), 1906 (14,20m), 1997 (14,34m), 1916 (14,42m) e 1926 (14,54m). Os cinco menores valores de cotas máximas foram em: 1926 (21,77m), 1912 (24,84m), 1992 (25,42m), 1964 (25,91m) e 1980 (26,00m) e os cinco de cotas mínimas foram em: 1926 (21,77m), 1912 (24,84m), 1992 (25,42m), 1964 (25,91m) e 1980 (26,00m). As cinco maiores diferenças alcançadas em um mesmo ano entre as cotas máximas e mínimas aconteceram em: 1997 (14,62m), 1909 (14,13m), 1953 (12,62m), 1952 (12,44m) e 1916 (12,21 m) e as menores aconteceram em: 1912 (05,45m), 1968 (06,10m), 1985 (06,53m), 1974, (06,62m) e 1986 (06,74m).

The genus Polyzonus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae) was established by Castelnau in 1840. Gahan (1906) recorded 19 species in the Indian cerambycid fauna. Pandy (1980) reviewed this genus with 33 species, and the species, P. opacus Pic was absent in his key of the original description. The descriptions of P. latefasciatus Hüdepohl, 1998 and P. hefferni Vives, Bentanachs & Chew Kea Foo, 2008 brought the number of described species in the genus to 35 worldwide. Gressitt (1951) listed nine Polyzonus species in the Chinese cerambycid fauna. Both Hua (2002) and Fu (2006) listed thirteen species in China. In this paper, a new species is described, bringing the number of Chinese species in the genus Polyzonus to 14.

Este artículo analiza el desplazamiento de una cultura de la publicación basada en las imprentas a otra que se organizó en torno a las editoriales. La etapa inicial de tal proceso ocurrió entre 1906 y 1919, cuando el educador y escritor Joaquín García Monge y los inmigrantes catalanes Ricardo Falcó y Andrés Borrasé, impulsaron las primeras iniciativas editoriales. Posteriormente, fueron fundadas las primeras editoriales públicas y privadas (1920-1949), aunque fue solo en el período 1950-1979 que la industria editorial se consolidó, en estrecha conexión con la expansión del Estado y, en particular, del sistema educativo. Pese a la crisis económica de 1980, el auge editorial, en vez de detenerse, se profundizó, incentivado por el desarrollo de la investigación y de los estudios de posgrado en las universidades y por la reactivación de la Guerra Fría en América Central.

Franchet (1894) described two species from Yunnan as Arracacha (= Arracacia) delavayi and A. peucedanifolia, respectively, in a genus hitherto known only from Mexico to Bolivia in the New World. Wolff (1925) made A. delavayi the type of his new genus Physospermopsis, but neither de Boissieu (1906), Wolff, nor Norman could find an appropriate generic home for A. peucedanifolia. In 1980, Sheh and Shan established the new genus Cyclorhiza with one species and a second taxon which became C. major (M.L. Sheh & R.H. Shan) M.L. Sheh in Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae. This work does not mention either A. peucedanifolia or Cenolophiwn chinense M. Hiroe (1958), which was based on similar material. The correct name for A. peucedanifolia is Cyclorhiza peucedanifolia (Franch.) Constance, comb. nov. and the genus Arracacia is to be excluded from Asia.

Alloperla Banks, 1906 (Plecoptera: Chloroperlidae) is a speciose genus of spring- and summer-emergent stoneflies known from the Oriental, eastern Palearctic, and Nearctic realms. Over 50 species are currently recognized. Alloperla clarki sp. nov. is described herein from the adult male stage from a small geographic area in the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia, USA. Diagnostic characters are presented with scanning electron microscope (SEM) photomicrographs. Alloperla clarki sp. nov. most closely resembles A. biserrata Nelson & Kondratieff, 1980, A. nanina Banks, 1911, and A. stipitata Surdick, 2004. These four species share similar characteristics of the male epiproct and appear to comprise a species group. The Alloperla nanina Group is formally proposed. Comparative SEM images are also provided for A. biserrata, A. nanina, and A. stipitata to assist with differentiating between these four species.

L’une des caractéristiques les plus frappantes de la première réception italienne de la pensée de Georg Simmel, c’est qu’elle passe, au départ, par la traduction de quelques-unes de ses contributions philosophiques les plus importantes. Les seules exceptions, concernant sa production sociologique, furent les essais Das Problem der Soziologie et Zur Soziologie der Armut, traduits respectivement en 1896 et en 1906. Ainsi, contrairement à ce qui est arrivé dans d’autres pays (Allemagne incluse), en Italie, Simmel a été connu et apprécié — par ceux qui se sont approchés les premiers de ses ouvrages — tout d’abord en tant que philosophe. C’est depuis les années 1980 qu’on assiste au renouveau de l’intérêt pour l’ensemble des ouvrages de Simmel qui amène, entre autres, la traduction de ses travaux sociologiques les plus importants et la réalisation de nombreuses études. Ces dernières mettent en valeur aussi bien sa contribution au développement de la sociologie que la complexité de sa pensée qui dépasse les strictes bornes disciplinaires.

Rabbi Yitshak Hutner (1906–1980) was a remarkable scholar, an enigmatic religious intellectual and a charismatic teacher. Drawing upon his public discourses and his written letters, I argue that Hutner’s vocabulary—which remained rooted almost entirely in the vocabulary of traditional Talmudism—afforded him a ready garment in which to clothe a syncretic educational theory, which combines Hasidic approaches to spiritual instruction and remakes the traditions of Lithuanian piety and study for his new American audience. The present study interrogates a series of key themes that appear in Hutner’s teachings, all of which pertain to issues of pedagogy and the construction of religious education. The essay advances a historical argument by examining the works of an important and influential modern Jewish thinker, but it is also driven by a constructive question: What does Hutner’s vision of Jewish religious teaching and learning have to contribute to today’s Jewish education, and to the broader world of higher education in North America in particular?

While all chairs of classics after the war were entrusted to already well-established pre-war professors, female scholars, junior often only by rank, took care of the mind-boggling logistics of setting up the defunct departments and preparing them for the first cohort of students. It was an unusual group composed of various ages and levels of knowledge. Older ones saw their education put on hold during the war or attended underground university classes but did not obtain their degrees. Younger ones completed high school within the same clandestine system. Things began to change during the second post-war decade with women advancing in their careers, obtaining degrees and university positions. The paper discusses the careers of seven prominent classicists: Zofia Abramowiczówna (1906–1988), Leokadia Małunowicz (1910–1980), Daniela Tennerówna-Gromska (1889–1973), Izydora Dąmbska (1904–1983), Anna Maria Komornicka (1920–2018), Iza Bieżuńska-Małowist (1917–1995), and Stefania Światłowska (1914–2009).

[It] is not I who am on trial here today, but the Law of the New Hebrides.In 1906, Britain and France jointly annexed the New Hebrides. A y-shaped archipelago in the southwest Pacific Ocean, the New Hebrides—which became Vanuatu upon independence in 1980—comprised some eighty islands characterized by high levels of linguistic and cultural diversity. At the moment of annexation, there were also Presbyterian, Anglican, and Catholic missionaries and Euro-American planters and traders, who overlaid religious and national divisions onto the existing social and linguistics ones. Anglo-French rule under the New Hebrides Condominium added a hybrid legal system to this complex mix. During the colonial period, four distinct jurisdictions existed, indicative of the divided, rival nature of governance. These included joint Condominium law, British common law, French civil law, and from 1928, a native code and courts. The plurality and ambiguity of the legal system left ample space for critique and for alternative, extrajudicial justice, as this article explores.

The genus Parachristianella Dollfus, 1946 is redefined. Pa. monomegacantha Kruse, 1959 is redescribed from Australian specimens, and Pa. baverstocki, sp. nov. is added to the genus. Five genera are recognised in the Australia fauna: Bajauana Distant 1907, Dilacreon Fennah, 1980, Kirbyana Distant, 1906, Neocarpia Tsaur & Hsu, 2003 and Nesochlamys Kirkaldy, 1907. Except for Bajauana all of these represent new records for Australia. Eucarpia Walker, 1857 is declared absent from Australia. Twelve species, nine of which are new, are recognised in the Australian fauna: Bajauana acuminata, sp. nov., Dilacreon akethe, sp. nov., D. ispi, sp. nov., Neocarpia rhizophorae, sp. nov., Nesochlamys capensis, sp. nov., N. contrarius, sp. nov., N. jubatus, sp. nov., N. pandikros, sp. nov. and N. yiralli, sp. nov. Except for Bajauana austrina (Kirkaldy, 1907) and D. (D.) granulinervis, all species are endemic to Australia. Lectotypes are designated for Australoma austrina Kirkaldy, 1907, Ptoleria australis Muir, 1913 and P. granulinervis Muir, 1913. New combinations proposed are: Dilacreon (Dilacreon) granulinervis (Muir, 1913) comb. nov. (from Eucarpia), Kirbyana australis (Muir, 1913) comb. nov. The morphology of the male terminalia of fourteen African species of Helina Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera, Muscidae) is described and illustrated: H. dorsalis (Stein, 1914); H. emdeni Pont, 1980, H. fuscibasis Emden, 1951; H. gracilior Emden, 1951; H. hirtipes metatarsalis Emden, 1951, H. juxtamedialis Emden, 1951; H. lasiopa Emden, 1951; H. mollis (Stein, 1906); H. naivashensis Emden, 1951, stat. nov. (herein raised to species rank); H. nemoralis (Stein, 1913); H. novarae (Schiner, 1868), H. penicillata Emden, 1951; H. quadruplex (Stein, 1913); and H. trinubilifera (Malloch, 1921). These species demonstrate that the terminalia can be very varied, with different shapes of sternite 5, sometimes with very strong and long setae, and a short or elongated cercal plate and surstylus that sometimes can bear spines. Some of these species also share other external characters that are unusual among Helina, such as the arrangement of the katepisternal setae as an equilateral triangle, the absence of an anterodorsal seta on mid tibia, and wings with dark clouds. Most of these species are well described in the literature, but the male terminalia have never been studied in detail. The material studied here is deposited in the Natural History Museum (BMNH), London, United Kingdom.

The opening years of the twentieth century witnessed rising public disquiet about evident environmental degradation and the ever more obvious loss of important habitats. In the United States, following the personal intervention of President Theodore Roosevelt, Congress passed an act in 1906 to establish a protected inventory of national parks and forests. A year later the UK Parliament passed an act to establish the National Trust. Following the well trailed campaigns of self-anointed environmentalists such as John Muir and Octavia Hill, the protection of vulnerable landscapes appeared for the first time on the public policy agenda. Against this background of rising awareness of the unfettered consequences of economic growth, a similar concern can be detected for the plight of rural communities in the Indian state of Bengal, largely as a result of the personal involvement – in both word and deed – of Rabindranath Tagore. It can be argued further that Tagore’s innate empiricism as a result of this growing awareness, anticipated the discourse that would lead eventually to the World Conservation Strategy published by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature in 1980. It was followed by the Brundtland Report (1987) Our Common Future.

Abstrak: Standar auditing selama 12 tahun terakhir mengalami peningkatan pada sisi kuantitas maupun kualitas. Kondisi ini mengindikasikan terjadinya kompleksitas peran auditor sebagai pihak yang independen dalam menciptakan good corporate governance. Terdapat dua faktor utama yang menyebabkan terjadinya skandal auditing yakni : (a) implementasi standar umum, dan (b) implementasi standar pekerjaan lapangan. Adanya ragam perbedaan dan konflik kepentingan menyebabkan auditor mengalami ambiguinitas peran pada standar auditing. Penelitian ini bertujuan memperoleh bukti empirik pengaruh solidaritas sosial, kompetensi auditor, profesionalisme auditor, dan reputasi perusahaan klien terhadap opini audit going concern. Untuk menguji fakta empirik tersebut diperlukan susunan logika dengan Background Theory: Teori Idealisme Klasik, Grand Theory : General Equilibrium Theory - IO Wassily Leontief (1906 - 1999) Standar Auditing (2011), Middle Range Theory : Posmodernisme Derrida (1930-2004), Rorty (1931-2007), Sartre (1905-1980), dan Application Theory : Agency Theory : Jensen & Meckling (1976); Francis and Smith (1994); Hammer (1992) Kamin & Ronen (1978); Fama (1980); Baiman(1982); Caose (1987); Zimmerman (1980). Unit penelitian adalah 84 responden pada Kantor Akuntan Publik Big Four di Jakarta. Metode alat analisis menggunakan path analysis atau gabungan antara korelasi dan regresi untuk mengetahui pengaruh secara parsial maupun simultan. Hasil penelitian setelah dilakukan uji validitas, reabilitas, dan transformasi data ordinal ke data interval menunjukan hasil: (a) solidaritas sosial, kompetensi auditor, profesionalisme auditor secara parsial tidak berpengaruh signifikan dengan opini audit going concern, sedangkan reputasi perusahaan klien berpengaruh signifikan terhadap opini audit going concern, dan (b) solidaritas sosial, kompetensi auditor, profesionalisme auditor, reputasi perusahaan klien terhadap opini audit going concern secara simultan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan sebesar nilai adjusted R square 0.626 atau sebesar 62.6% sedangkan sisanya 37.4% dipengaruhi variabel lain di luar model penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini mempunyai konsistensi dengan seluruh kerangka pemikiran, tinjauan pustaka, dan penelitian terdahulu. Adapun saran untuk penelitian: (a) bagi pengembangan ilmu auditing diperlukan penelititan lanjutan di luar model seperti budaya, tanggung jawab etika auditor , (b) untuk kebijakan IAPI dan KAP perlu menyusun kejelasan maupun kriteria lebih konkrit pemberian opini audit going concern, pertimbangan solidaritas sosial, peningkatan kompetensi auditor, memperbaiki profesionalisme auditor, dan memperhatikan kemampuan reputasi perusahaan klien sebagai pihak auditee. Species in Angraecum sect. Dolabrifolia (Pfitzer 1889: 216) Garay (1973: 499) were assigned to several genera until Garay (1973) finally transferred the type species, A. distichum (Lindley 1836: t. 1781), along with A. podochiloides Schlechter (1906: 162) and A. aporoides Summerhayes (1964: 560) to Angraecum Bory (1804: 359) (see Simo-Droissart et al. 2016a). Later, Angraecum bancoense Burg in Arends et al. (1980: 26) and A. poppendickianum Szlachetko & Olszewski (2001: 884) were described and included in this section. According to Garay (1973), Angraecum sect. Dolabrifolia is characterized by very short, fleshy, laterally compressed and densely imbricate leaves, with a groove on the upper surface; the lateral compression being a unique feature within the genus. Based on this unique morphological character, Szlachetko and Romowicz (2007) raised the section to the rank of genus, Dolabrifolia (Pfitz.) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54) and proposed five new combinations, namely Dolabrifolia disticha (Lindl.) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54), D. aporoides (Summerh.) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54), D. bancoensis (Burg) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54), D. podochiloides (Schltr.) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54) and D. poppendickiana (Szlach. & Olszewski) Szlachetko & Romowicz (2007: 54). The taxonomic decision of Szlachetko and Romowicz (2007) was followed by Szlachetko et al. (2013), who also raised nine other Angraecum sections to the generic rank.

The declaration of intent forming the title of this article – united to support but not combined to injure– succinctly illustrates a dilemma that confronted trade unions in Britain in the early nineteenth century, and that has since re-surfaced periodically. Successful trade unionism necessarily requires collective action, whether of an overt form, as during an industrial dispute, or implicitly, as in the enforcement of a closed shop. Not infrequently, though, the claims of solidarity and collective interest run counter to the rights of individuals: of employers, fellow workers and third parties. The intervention of the law provides an added twist to the potential conflict between the individual and the group. While the individual has traditionally enjoyed generous legal protection so that he can conduct his lawful business unhindered, the recognition of collective rights has been hesitant and qualified. The Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act of 1875 and the Trades Disputes Act of 1906 effectively legalized peaceful picketing, but the relationship of criminal law and trade unions remained uneasy despite the rarity of prosecutions for offences such as conspiracy. Nevertheless, during the century and a half since 1825 there has been a progressive tendency – at least until the 1980's – for the contradiction between collective and individual interest to assume a relatively muted and non-violent form. The emergence of institutionalized industrial conflict was a logical consequence of British trade unions achieving a position of respectability in the established order.

The family Echiniscidae comprises limno-terrestrial heterotardigrades with a strongly sclerotised dorsum, typically covered with plates. Among other members of the Echiniscus evolutionary line, the genus Testechiniscus Kristensen, 1987 stands out with well-developed ventral armature and polygonal sculpturing of the dorsal plates. It has alleged bipolar distribution (with satellite alpine records in the Holarctic). Thanks to fresh material from terra typica (Svalbard), we integratively redescribe (i.e. using light and electron microscopy imaging, morphometry, and molecular methods) the nominal species for the genus, Testechiniscus spitsbergensis (Scourfield, 1897). A comparison of the neotype series with a number of Holarctic records revealed morphological variability suggesting that the species may encompass several taxa, which, most likely, will be possible to delineate primarily with molecular tools. Moreover, based on material from Simien Mountains (Northern Ethiopia), we describe a new sibling subspecies, Testechiniscus spitsbergensis tropicalis ssp. nov. Extensive morphometric datasets are provided for the genus members for the first time. A new generic definition is proposed, embracing the two subspecies of T. spitsbergensis and T. laterculus (Schuster et al., 1980), but excluding two circum-Antarctic species, T. macronyx (Richters, 1907) and T. meridionalis (Murray, 1906). The later species are likely to be erected in the future as separate genera, and their autapomorphies are described here. In the light of our findings, the genus Testechiniscus should be recognised as a native element of the Northern Hemisphere, with mainly circum-Arctic distribution and additional, insular alpine records from the Nearctic, Palearctic and Eastern Afrotropic.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund Hans Asperger (1906–1980) bezeichnete 1938 als Erster eine Gruppe von Kindern mit charakteristischen psychologischen Merkmalen als „autistische Psychopathen“. Im Jahr 1944 publizierte er eine umfassende Arbeit zu diesem Thema, die ab den 1980er-Jahren internationale Anerkennung fand. Seither erlangte die Bezeichnung „Asperger-Syndrom“ zunehmende Verbreitung. Die Tatsache, dass Asperger zentrale Jahre seiner Karriere während der nationalsozialistischen (NS-)Herrschaft in Wien verbracht hatte, wurde gelegentlich im Hinblick auf eine mögliche Involvierung thematisiert. Es lagen aber kaum Dokumente vor, und letztlich setzte sich ein Narrativ durch, das Asperger eine aktiv widerständige Rolle gegen das NS-Regime zuschrieb. Ziel der Arbeit Hauptziel ist eine Überprüfung dieses apologetischen Narrativs. Basierend auf früheren Arbeiten des Autors bietet der Beitrag eine kritische, evidenzbasierte Untersuchung von Aspergers Leben, politischer Orientierung und beruflicher Laufbahn vor und während der NS-Zeit in Österreich. Material und Methoden Der Beitrag beruht auf einer Reihe von zeitgenössischen Publikationen und bisher unbekannten Archivdokumenten, einschließlich Aspergers Personalakten und von ihm verfasster Gutachten. Ergebnisse Asperger vollzog eine Anpassung an das NS-Regime und wurde für seine Loyalitätsbereitschaft mit Karrierechancen belohnt. Er trat mehreren NS-Organisationen bei (allerdings nicht der Nationalsozialistischen Deutschen Arbeiterpartei [NSDAP]), unterstützte öffentlich rassenhygienische Maßnahmen des Regimes wie z. B. die Zwangssterilisationen und kooperierte in mehreren Fällen mit der „Kindereuthanasie“. Diskussion Das Narrativ von Asperger als entschlossener Gegner des NS und mutiger Verteidiger seiner PatientInnen gegen die „Euthanasie“-Maßnahmen hält einer Überprüfung nicht stand. Asperger spielte insgesamt eine wesentlich problematischere Rolle als bisher bekannt.

A maldanid discovered on sand beaches of Banks Peninsula, South Island, New Zealand is newly described. Clymenura snaiko sp. nov. is of large size at over 250 mm length, with 18 chaetigers, two achaetous preanal segments with tori, unmodified dentate uncini in anterior chaetigers, a ventral glandular shield on chaetiger eight, a high cephalic rim notched laterally, and a deep anal funnel rimmed with 16 short subequal cirri and one longer ventral cirrus. The confused taxonomy of ventral-shield-bearing maldanids is reassessed and clarified. Leiochone Grube 1868 and Clymenura Verrill, 1900 are here treated as the valid members of Arwidsson’s (1906) tribe Leiochonini in Euclymeninae, and given emended diagnoses, while Imajima and Shiraki’s (1982) subfamily Clymenurinae and Clymenura subgenus Cly. (Cephalata) are considered invalid. Differentiating character states of the valid Leiochonini species are tabulated. Leiochone is restricted to six species, including the new combinations L. annulata (Mohammad, 1980) and L. japonica (Imajima & Shiraki, 1982). Clymenura is restricted to nine valid taxa, including Cly. snaiko sp. nov. and the new combination Cly. polaris lena (Averincev, 1990). These updated groupings exclude a further eight nominal taxa which mostly may be indeterminable. Leiochone species occur in inshore temperate to tropical Eastern Hemisphere waters, while Clymenura mostly occur in high North European latitudes and the northern Pacific region, usually offshore in deep water. The new species is the first record of a Clymenura from Southern Hemisphere waters, and the second member of the genus to be found in the intertidal.

AbstractThe history of the endemic rodents of the Galápagos Islands began with the discovery of the first Galápagos rice rat species by Charles Darwin in 1835 and the last species was described as recently as 1980. Unfortunately, of the seven described species known to occur in the islands during the past 150 years, only two were known to be extant to 1995. Since then, two expeditions to the Galápagos Islands have been conducted to survey endemic rodent populations. The first confirmed the existence of a small endemic rice rat, Nesoryzomys fernandinae, on Fernandina, known previously only from owl pellet remains found in 1979. In 1997, an expedition to Santiago revealed a population of the larger rice rat N. swarthi, a species collected alive only once in 1906 and considered extinct in all recent literature on the Galápagos Islands. Survey efforts on Santa Cruz resulted only in the collection of introduced rodent species (Rattus rattus, R. norvegicus and Mus musculus). The extant species of native rodents in the Galápagos Islands now number four: N. narboroughi and N. fernandinae on Fernandina; N. swarthi on Santiago; and Oryzomys bauri on Santa Fe. Three species are found on islands where no introduced rodents or cats occur, whereas only one (N. swarthi) co-exists with R. rattusand M. musculus. Nesoryzomys darwini and N. indefessus on Santa Cruz and O. galapagoensis on San Cristóbal are still considered extinct. Strategies for conservation should include monitoring islands for introduced rodents and cats, development of emergency plans in the event of introductions, and captive management.

Tekst jest opracowaniem interdyscyplinarnym. Traktuje o związkach malarstwa, poezji i muzyki. Trzy obrazy polskich malarzy (Jacek Malczewski, Wigilia na Syberii, Bronisław Wojciech Linke, Kanibalizm, Jerzy Krawczyk, Birkenau) stały się inspiracją dla poezji Jacka Kaczmarskiego, jego zaś wiersze (odpowiednio: Wigilia na Syberii, Kanapka z człowiekiem, Birkenau) zostały umuzycznione przez Zbigniewa Łapińskiego i Przemysława Gintrowskiego. Artykuł – mający charakter analityczny – odsłania drogę przekazu artystycznego od obrazu, poprzez słowo poetyckie, do ujęcia muzycznego.SUMMARYThe article is an interdisciplinary study, which discusses interrelations between painting, poetry and music. Three pictures by Polish painters – Wigilia na Syberii [Christmas Eve in Siberia] by Jacek Malczewski (1854-1929), Kanibalizm [Cannibalism] by Bronisław Wojciech Linke (1906-1962), and Birkenau by Jerzy Krawczyk (1921-1969) – became the inspiration for Jacek Kaczmarski’s (1957-2004) poetry; his poems in turn, as poetic reactions to the foregoing paintings, Wigilia na Syberii (1980), Kanapka z człowiekiem [Sandwich with a Man] (1980) and Birkenau (1981) respectively – were musicalized by Zbigniew Łapiński (b. 1947) and Przemysław Gintrowski (1951-2012), and performed by the trio of Kaczmarski, Łapiński, and Gintrowski (Wigilia na Syberii in 1981) and by Przemysław Gintrowski alone (Kanapka z człowiekiem in 2009, Birkenau in 1991). The three-part, analytical article reveals the process of artistic communication: from a picture, to the poetic word, to a songster’s interpretation.

Este trabajo analiza la aplicación del término estilístico neomedieval veneciano a ciertos edificios construidos por los arquitectos Ettore Petri, Arnado Barison y Renato Schiavon, en Valparaíso y Viña del Mar (Chile), durante los años 1906 y 1916. Se valora el carácter ambiguo de este concepto asumido por la historiografía, defendiendo la imposibilidad de considerar sus construcciones como meras evocaciones positivistas de la arquitectura medieval de Venecia. Al contrario, se describe un fenómeno más complejo y rico, basado en el uso de modelos edilicios de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, contrayendo una visión idealizada de la Edad Media, a partir del conocimiento de los diseños y textos de John Ruskin y Camillo Boito y la inspiración en construcciones medievales fuertemente restauradas. *** O estilo veneziano neo-medieval na história da arquitetura chilena (1906-1916) ***Este artigo analisa a aplicação do termo estilístico neomedieval veneziano a certos edifícios construídos pelos arquitetos Ettore Petri, Arnado Barison e Renato Schiavon, em Valparaíso e Viña del Mar (Chile), nos anos de 1906 e 1916. Este trabalho pretende traçar um panorama sobre a trajetória do Partido Comunista Brasileiro desde a sua origem, entre 1906 e 1922, até o período de redemocratização do país, após a ditadura militar, em 1985, procurando evidenciar o quanto o partido sofreu com a repressão e com as diversas intervenções do Estado, principalmente no contexto de Guerra Fria do Pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial. Para isso, algumas categorias propostas por Thompson foram muito caras a produção deste artigo, como o de Exterminismo, diretamente vinculada a Guerra Fria e, no caso deste trabalho, a eliminação dos comunistas, e o de Alteridade do Outro, que servira de base para a criação do inimigo em comum das ditaduras latino-americanas, novamente, o comunismo.

Los terremotos y sus consecuencias en el mundo y en Chile han sido trabajados en diferentes libros y artículos como Earthquakes: science and society (1999) y “Seismicity anomalies of M 5.0 earthquakes in Chile during 1964-2015” (2018). El libro que reseñamos se suma a la bibliografía que aborda esta temática, aportando con fuentes que describen los más significativos terremotos del último siglo; pero además presenta una novedosa propuesta, que contraviene las ideas de autores como Jorge Larraín en su libro Identidad Chilena (2001) y Rolando Mellafe en su artículo “El acontecer infausto en el carácter chileno: una proposición de historiade las mentalidades” (1980), en cuanto a que el fatalismo, en este caso materializado a través de los terremotos y la solidaridad, son rasgos que identifican a todo chileno.

A casa em que morou em Guaratinguetá (SP), construída em taipa nos meados do século XIX, foi tombada nos níveis federal e estadual. Por meio dos processos de tombamento e de alguns eventos relativos à conservação deste bem cultural, examinamos os conteúdos históricos que circularam nos órgãos de patrimônio entre a década de 1960 e o começo do século XXI.

كانت مقدمات الثورة الايرانية قد بدات في عهد حكومة جمشيد أموزكار (1), ففي السابع من كانون الثاني 1978 نشرت صحيفة اطلاعات الايرانية مقالاً هاجمت فيه رجال الدين الايرانيين وبالذات آية الله الخميني (2), وقد أتهمت الصحيفة رجال الدين بالرجعية والتحالف مع الشيوعيين ضد حكم الشاه محمد رضا بهلوي (3), كما أتهمت الصحيفة آية الله الخميني بالعمالة لبريطانيا والفسوق وكتابة الشعر الجنسي الصوفي (4). أثارت هذه المقالة , غضب الشارع الايراني ومدينة قم الدينية حيث خرج في اليوم التالي 8 من كانون الثاني 1978 المئات من المتظاهرين من رجال الدين وطلبة الحوزة العلمية في تظاهرات طافت شوارع مدينة قم احتجاجاً على هذه المقال , ونتيجة لذلك حاولت قوات الامن والشرطة الايرانية ايقاف هذه التظاهرات , مما أدى حدوث صدامات دموية بين الطرفين ادت الى مقتل حوالي سبعين شخصاً وجرح أكثر من خمسمائة اخرين (5). رداً على ذلك دعى آية الله الخميني الى اسقاط نظام ( الطاغوت ) ودعا رجال الدين وطلبة الحوزة العلمية الى المزيد من التظاهرات ضد نظام الشاه الاستبدادي , واتهم الشاه بالتامر مع الولايات المتحدة الامريكية ضد الاسلام والسعي الى تدمير الاقتصاد الايراني (6). وفي مقابلة مع الصحفيين اشتكى آية الله كاظم شريعتمداري (7) من ان الشاه يحاول تشويه سمعة رجال الدين , وانه اذا كانت المطالبة بالدستـور تعتبـر ( رجعيـة سـوداء ) فهـو يعتبـر نفســه ( رجعي اسود ) , وهدد بعرض جثث ضحايا التظاهرات امام القصر الملكي أذا لم تتوقف السلطات الايرانية عن مهاجمة العلماء وطلبة العلوم الدينية . ودعا آية الله كاظم شريعتمداري وثمانية وثمانون من رجال الدين وتجار البازار وقادة المعارضة الايرانية الاخرى الى احياء ذكرى اربعينية قتلى مدينة قم . وذلك من خلال الاضراب عن العمل , الا انه طالب ان يكون التواجد في الجوامع سلمياً وبدون اعمال عنف (8). El presente trabajo intenta poner de manifiesto las tensiones que caracterizaron el desarrollo de la producción de miel de abeja en Costa Rica, particularmente su competencia con la producción y consumo de azúcar, el combate de plagas y la deforestación. Para ello se recurre al análisis de revistas agrícolas, artículos publicados sobre la temática, así como a los anuarios estadísticos y los censos agropecuarios del periodo. El artículo inicia con una breve ubicación sobre el surgimiento de la apicultura en Costa Rica para luego adentrarse en la caracterización de dicha actividad en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Posteriormente se analizan las principales situaciones que enfrentó la apicultura desde la década de 1940 con el combate de plagas como la langosta y el efecto de la llegada de la abeja africanizada en la década de 1980, para cerrar con algunas aproximaciones a la situación actual en un contexto de cambio climático.

Izinkan tim redaksi membuka editorial dengan membagi kebahagiaan. Edisi ini tampil dalam suasana dan semangat baru yang menggembirakan, karena merupakan edisi pertama setelah Jurnal Sejarah Citra Lekha (JSCL) dinyatakan sebagai jurnal nasional terakreditasi berdasar SK Kementerian Riset dan Pendidikan Tinggi RI No. SK No. 21/E/KPT/2018, 9 Juli 2018.Ada enam artikel dalam edisi ini. Artikel pertama dari Hidayat dan Erond L. Damanik yang membahas tentang konstruksi identitas etnik dalam masyarakat Mandailing dan Angkota di Kota Medan dalam periode 1906-1939. Etnis Mandailing yang Islam mengidentifikasi diri sebagai Melayu dan menolak disebut Batak. Sebaliknya, etnis Angkota menegaskan Batak sebagai identitas mereka. Redefinisi identitas itu terjadi dalam situasi ketiadaan budaya dominan dan berelasi dengan persaingan untuk mendapatkan akses pada sumber daya material, ekonomi, dan politik. Konstruksi identitas itu terus direproduksi sampai saat ini, sehingga akulturasi dan asimilasi tidak mudah terwujud serta berpotensi menimbulkan proses sosial yang disosiatif. Di pihak lain, I Made Pageh menyajikan temuan yang penting dan menarik dalam sistem religi lokal Bali. Melalui mimikri dan hibridisasi, religi lokal itu dapat berfungsi sebagai wahana untuk mengintegrasikan umat Hindu dan Islam di Bali. Dua artikel berikutnya berusaha menggali nilai-nilai budaya dalam karya sastra yang dapat dijadikan basis untuk membangun kehidupan yang lebih baik pada masa kini. Artikel pertama dari Siregar, Djono, dan Leo Agung yang menelaah Si Bulus-Bulus Si Rumbuk-Rumbuk karya Willem Iskandar untuk mengungkap nilai-nilai pendidikan dalam kebudayaan masyarakat Tapanuli Selatan; sedangkan artikel kedua dari Awaludin Nugraha berusaha menggali pemikiran Bupati Sumedang P.A.A. Soeria Atmadja (menjabat pada 1883-1919) mengenai pembangunan berkelanjutan berbasis moral yang tertuang dalam karyanya yang berjudul Di Tioeng Memeh Hudjan. Gagasan P.A.A. Soeria Atmadja melampaui zamannya karena telah dirumuskan jauh sebelum negara-negara Barat mengembangkan konsep pembangunan berkelanjutan pada 1980-an. Artikel berikutnya dari Rabith Jihan Amaruli yang membahas mengenai Sumpah Pemuda Arab pada 1934 yang menjadi cikal-bakal organisasi Arab-Hadrami nasionalis pertama di Indonesia, yaitu Persatuan Arab Indonesia. Topik ini menjadi penting dalam kaitannya dengan fenomena Arabisme yang berkembang akhir-akhir dan terkesan berseberangan dengan nasionalisme Indonesia. Edisi ini ditutup dengan artikel Dhanang Respati Puguh dan Mahendra Pudji Utamatentang peranan pemerintah dalam mengembangkan wayang orang panggung Sriwedari, Ngesti Pandowo, dan Bharata. Ketiga wayang orang panggung itu dapat bertahan sampai kini antara lain berkat adanya dukungan dari pemerintah. Namun demikian pemerintah diharapkan tidak hanya memberi dukungan yang bersifat artifisial, melainkan mengambil peranan yang lebih fundamental sebagai patron-seni. Dalam garis itu, pemerintah perlu menyusun kebijakan budaya sebagai dasar bagi pengembangan wayang orang panggung dan berbagai bentuk kesenian tradisi atau budaya lokal pada umumnya dalam kerangka kebudayaan nasional.Tulisan-tulisan dalam JSCL edisi ini akan menemukan arti penting ketika kita meletakkannya dalam konteks perkembangan Indonesia kontemporer yang begitu dinamis dan cenderung membuka peluang bagi terjadinya konflik. Kebebasan berpendapat diekspresikan secara leluasa melalui penggunaan (atau penyalahgunaan) simbol-simbol budaya yang mudah memantik sentimen SARA, suatu yang sensitif dalam masyarakat majemuk. Hal ini tampak misalnya dalam pelaksanaan Pemilukada serentak pada 2018 dan, tentu sangat tidak diharapkan, barang kali masih akan terus berlanjut mengingat Indonesia akan segera memasuki tahun politik 2019. Seruan untuk menciptakan suasana yang sejuk dan damai kehilangan gaungnya dan seolah-olah tidak berarti, tenggelam oleh gegap gempita euforia demokrasi. Di tengah-tengah situasi itu, para kontributor dalam JSCL edisi mengajak kita untuk mengembangkan sensibilitas dengan belajar dari sejarah. Mereka dengan caranya masing-masing mendorong kita untuk mencari inspirasi dari kearifan masyarakat Nusantara yang dapat dikembangkan sebagai modal penting untuk menambal retak-retak pada perahu besar Indonesia, sehingga dapat melanjutkan pelayaran menuju kehidupan bersama sebagai negara-bangsa yang harmonis, damai, adil-makmur, dan sentosa.Tidak ada yang lebih pantas dikatakan selain ucapan terima kasih yang sebesar-besarnya kepada para kontributor yang telah bersedia membagi pengetahuan yang mencerahkan. O presente trabalho pauta-se no relato do processo de organização e catalogação primária da seção iconográfica do acervo do arquiteto Eduardo Kneese de Mello (1906–1994), realizado no ano de 2015, atualmente integrado à biblioteca do Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo. O fundo, produzido em vida pelo arquiteto, recuperou força no ano de 2006, com sua proficuidade como fonte de pesquisa anunciada pelo Dr. Ademir Pereira dos Santos, estimulando o início de diferentes manejos. Após a elucidação acerca da trajetória institucional deste material, demonstra-se aqui uma produção orientada por inquietações díspares aos trabalhos anteriores, objetivadas pela correlação da porção mais significativa do acervo, os slides, com as demais espécies documentais que compõem o conjunto do acervo. Seguinte à compreensão dos escopos que sucederam o vasto material constituinte do fundo, demonstra-se a metodologia empregada para tratamento, diagnóstico e estruturação do catálogo, assim como sua importância como base informacional, através da qual se constituiu um panorama visual e quantitativo com o auxílio e gerenciamento de tabelas descritivas, gráficos percentuais de diferentes análises e a elaboração de mapas com roteiros ilustrativos que proporcionaram a exatidão geográfica de seu conhecimento e dos testemunhos históricos. A especulação das camadas existentes possibilitou o início da confirmação de informações publicadas sobre o arquiteto e mais uma complementação de sua biografia, com o conhecimento total de suas viagens. Considerou-se como função primordial a caracterização panorâmica do conteúdo do acervo, até então desconhecida, acabando-se por evidenciar futuras problemáticas a serem enfrentadas, potencialidades e ações e intervenções urgentes e primordiais à sobrevivência do fundo.
