Abstract (sommario):

Apresenta os discursos dos alunos liceístas nos jornais estudantis maranhenses no período de 1907 a 1930 a fim de identificar e analisar a dinâmica escolar e as representações sobre o cotidiano do ensino secundário.. Para tanto, este estudo baseia-se no mapeamento e na análise dos seguintes jornais: O Progresso (1907); O Brazil (1907); O Canhoto (1912-1914); Excelsior (1914); O Estudante (1915); Lábaro (1921); Alma Nova (1929) e o Sangue Jovem (1930). O estudo da imprensa periódica educacional liceísta possibilitou compreender as ideias sobre o desenvolvimento do país, a criação de escolas e a implantação de métodos na instrução pública secundária maranhense. Contatou-se que os jornais escritos pelos alunos do Liceu se configuraram como um importante veículo de identidade e de resistência entre o ideal e o concreto vivenciado pelos estudantes dessa instituição.

The genus Ocnophila Brunner, 1907 is here redescribed with an emended diagnosis, containing three valid species from Venezuela and Colombia: Ocnophila integra Brunner, 1907 with Ocnophila signatior Brunner, 1907 syn. nov. as a new junior synonym, Ocnophila iphicla (Westwood, 1859) and Ocnophila serrata sp. nov. In addition to the description of the new species we redescribe O. integra and O. iphicla, also providing a description of the male genitalia for O. integra. მე-20 საუკუნის გამოჩენილი თურქი მწერალი საბაჰათინ ალი 1907 წელს თურქეთში დაიბადა. მამა, რომელიც ადრე გარდაეცვალა, ოფიცერი იყო. ოჯახს საცხოვრებელის შეცვლა ხშირად უწევდა. მწერალმა კარგი განათლება ჯერ სტამბოლში მიიღო. იქ დაამთავრა პედაგიური სასწავლებელი და ქალაქ ოზგატში მასწავლებლად დაიწყო მოღვაწეობა. 1928-1930 წლებში საბაჰათინ ალი ბერლინის უნივერსიტეტის ფილოლოგიის ფაკულტეტზე სწავლობდა, სადაც ნაცისტ სტუდენტთან ეროვნულ ნიადაგზე ჩხუბი მოუხდა. მწერალი იძულებული გახდა დაეტოვებინა უნივერსიტეტი და სამშობლოს დაბრუნებოდა. ქალაქ აიდინში, კონიასა და ანკარის სკოლებში გერმენულ ენას ასწავლიდა. არაერთხელ იყო გასამართლებული თურქეთის მთავრობის მიმართ კრიტიკული აზრის გამოხატვისთვის. 1948 წელს სამშობლოს დატოვება და ევროპაში გაპარვა გადაწყვიტა, მაგრამ ახლო მეგობარმა პოლიციაში დაასმინა. მწერალი თურქეთ-ბულგარეთის საზღვარზე დააკავეს. ერთ-ერთი ვერსიით, იქვე დახვრიტეს, მეორე ვერსიით კი პოლიციაში დაკითხვისას მოკლეს.

The objective of this study was to identify secular change in Australian all-cause mortality over the period 1907-1998. The authors found that there was a decreasing trend in all-cause mortality, with five phases, over the study period. Phase I: 1907 to 1916, with relatively stable, but high, mortality rates. Phase II: 1917 to 1929, with great variations. Phase III: 1930 to 1943, a more stable period with lower mortality. Phase IV: 1944 to 1970, a slightly decreasing trend, with stagnation over the period 1958-69. Phase V: 1971 to 1998, with continuous decline. The mortality trends for major causes of death including infectious diseases, respiratory diseases, circulatory diseases, cancers, and injury are discussed. Possible reasons for the secular changes are explored.

Lietuvietes, (1879–?) stāsti ir pagaidām vienīgie zināmie detalizēti vēstītie sieviešu pieredzes gadījumi. Abu pierakstīšanu veicināja biedrības “Piektais gads” 1926. gada aicinājums aktīvajiem revolūcijas dalībniekiem iesniegt anketas par pieredzēto. 1930.–1931. gadā daži autori latviešu presē pieminēja seksuālo vardarbību, ko soda ekspedīciju karavīri īstenoja pret sievietēm, tomēr citi preses izdevumi sabiedrībā dominējošo patriarhālo priekšstatu dēļ neizmantoja šķietamo aicinājumu vēstīt par tādām pieredzēm. 1905.–1907. gada revolūcijas piemiņas institucionalizēšanas iniciatore bija Latvijas Sociāldemokrātiskā strādnieku partija, bet pēc 1934. gada, kad autoritārā režīma valdība likvidēja partijas, vairs nebija politiskā spēka, kas varētu pievērst uzmanību fiziskā un seksuālā vardarbībā cietušo sieviešu pieredzei.

SUMMARYSera from people born between 1883 and 1930 and collected in 1977 were tested for the presence of HI antibodies to A/FM/1/47 (H1N1) virus and three recently (1977 and 1978) isolated influenza A-H1N1 viruses. The highest frequency of high-titred antibody to the four H1N1 viruses was detected in sera from people born in 1903–4, i.e. 42,54,38, and 22% had antibody against A/FM/1/47, A/Hong Kong/117/77, A/Brazil/11/78, and A/Fukushima/103/78 respectively. The birthdate groups 1896–1907 showed a higher percentage of HI antibody titres ≥18, ≥50, ≥100 or ≥1600 against the four H1N1 viruses than the birthdate groups 1907–30. This indicates the existence of an era, 1908–18, in which, apart from the H3N2 virus (1900–18), the H1N1 virus was epidemic among the human population.

Abstract. Aim: To investigate birth cohort differences in associations between cardiovascular risk and fluid cognition between the age of 70 and 79. Method: Data were drawn from representative population-based cohort samples (H70), born 1901–1902, 1906–1907, and 1930, measured at ages 70, 75, and 79 on fluid cognitive measures (spatial ability and logical reasoning). The Framingham Risk Score (FRS), derived from office-based nonlaboratory predictors (age, sex, systolic blood pressure, BMI, smoking, diabetes status), was used to measure cardiovascular risk. Multiple-group latent growth curve models were fitted to the data. Findings: Estimates revealed small associations between the FRS and fluid cognition. These associations were slightly reduced in the 1930 cohort. Conclusion: Findings suggest diminishing adverse effects of cardiovascular risk on cognitive aging in cohorts born later.

We examine the relationship between prices and interest rates for seven advanced economies in the period up to 1913, emphasising the UK. There is a significant long-run positive relationship between prices and interest rates for the core commodity standard countries. Keynes ([1930] 1971) labelled this positive relationship the ‘Gibson Paradox’. A number of theories have been put forward as possible explanations of the paradox but they do not fit the long-run pattern of the relationship. We find that a formal model in the spirit of Wicksell (1907) and Keynes ([1930] 1971) offers an explanation for the paradox: where the need to stabilise the banking sector's reserve ratio, in the presence of an uncertain ‘natural’ rate, can lead to persistent deviations of the market rate of interest from its ‘natural’ level and consequently long-run swings in the price level.

This text not only addresses the different forms of resistance practiced by shantytown residents during the attempts by the government to demolish their homes, but also pays special attention to the years between 1907 and 1927 when the people of Morro da Favela (currently Morro da Providência) ensured the permanence of their houses through street protests.

Montana w 1907 roku była miejscem, gdzie hodowcy bydła toczyli wojnę przeciw wilkom, a myśliwi opowiadali historie o wilkach wyjętych spod prawa. W tym samym roku pewna mieszkanka pogranicza zdecydowała wychować i oswoić dwa wilcze szczenięta. W czasach, gdy dominowały uprzedzenia wobec drapieżników, Evelyn Cameron próbowała odnaleźć się w świecie zarówno mężczyzn, jak i wilków. Relacje z tych starań zachowały się w pamiętnikach, listach oraz na fotografiach pozostawionych przez Cameron. Artykuł jest próbą prześledzenia historii prześladowań wilka w Montanie w latach 1880–1930, widzianej oczami Evelyn Cameron, oraz ukazania zmiany w postrzeganiu tego gatunku poprzez historię dwóch wilczych szczeniąt imieniem Tussa i Weecharpee.

Currently, the fairy moth faunas of India and Sri Lanka include 38 and four species, respectively.

Bien avant les années ’40, Jori Smith (1907— ) était considérée comme une pionnière dans l’émancipation de la peinture québécoise. Entre le paysage et l’abstraction, son travail se situe dans la foulée des oeuvres qui ont réinvesti la peinture de la figure humaine. Cet article tente de situer Smith dans le contexte de l’époque par l’étude des portraits d’enfants réalisés entre 1930 et 1949 à Charlevoix. L’analyse montre que les portraits participent à la construction de nouvelles conceptions sur l’enfance et marquent l’appartenance de Jori Smith à une sensibilité moderne fondée sur l’esprit d’observation et de collection sous-tendant les grands projets de préservation de l’héritage culturel régional.

We reviewed the Japanese species of Anisocentropus McLachlan (Trichoptera, Calamoceratidae) and confirmed 3 species, Anisocentropus (Anisocentropus) kawamurai (Iwata, 1927), A. (A.) pallidus (Martynov, 1935) and A. (A.) magnificus Ulmer, 1907. The last species is recorded from Japan for the first time. For clear comparisons, adult and immature stages of the three species are described based on associations established by rearing larvae. The male, female and pupa of A. (A.) kawamurai, female and pupa of A. (A.) pallidus and female and immature stages of A. (A.) magnificus are newly described. Anisocentropus (A.) minutus (Martynov, 1930), known from southeastern Asia, is synonymized with A. (A.) kawamurai (Iwata, 1927).

Este texto reflexiona sobre el proceso de instalación y consolidación de los reglamentos de concursos de arquitectura en Uruguay y en quiénes lo impulsan. Comprender los reglamentos y su génesis es una herramienta de aproximación a las relaciones y los intereses de la comunidad arquitectónica del país, en un periodo altamente significativo para su conformación identitaria. Entre 1900 y 1930 las propuestas fueron variando en función de las recomendaciones de los congresos y los problemas que se presentaban en los concursos. Se identifican en el recorrido varios momentos de interés: la preocupación de Acosta y Lara (1899-1906), la lucha de las asociaciones profesionales (Baroffio, 1907, y SAU, 1923), los intentos de reglamentación desde el estado (Jones Brown, 1924 y Albo - García Selgas, 1924) y el definitivo texto de la SAU (1929). El reglamento de la SAU publicado en 1930 es la conclusión de un largo y polémico proceso de discusión de la comunidad arquitectónica de Uruguay, y es el que determina el ideal ético en los concursos que se realizan en el país de allí en adelante.

No ensino de língua portuguesa ministrado para o curso secundário, entre 1889 e 1930, observa-se a primazia da gramática, em relação à leitura e escrita de textos. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir o ensino de gramática para o 2º e 3º ano do curso secundário, na Primeira República (1889-1930), a partir da análise da Gramática expositiva: curso superior, de Eduardo Carlos Pereira. A obra, tendo tido um número elevado de reedições, desde sua publicação em 1907, pode ser representativa do ensino de gramática, no período. A análise se inscreve no campo da Linguística Aplicada, estabelecendo um diálogo com outras áreas do conhecimento, como História da Educação, História das Disciplinas Escolares, História das Ideias Linguísticas, Sociolinguística e Teoria Literária. Nas duas últimas décadas do século XIX e nas três primeiras décadas do século XX, prevaleceu no ensino de gramática a gramática expositiva, recomendando uma norma única da língua e revisitando elementos da tradição ocidental de estudos gramaticais, tanto na explicação das regras como na sua exemplificação por meio de excertos extraídos da literatura, sobretudo a portuguesa.

Léon Cordes (1913-1985) est imprégné d’un héritage culturel où se mêlent, de Minerve à Argeliers, le souvenir des cathares, la Croisade menée contre eux au XIIIème siècle, et, tout proche, celui de la révolte vigneronne de 1907. Dès les années 1930, il prend part à l’éclosion d’un occitanisme entièrement renouvelé, aux côtés de Charles Camproux, puis de Robert Lafont et Max Rouquette. Auteur de théâtre et rédacteur de revues, poète sensible, il revendique le profil singulier d’un paysan viscéralement lié à sa terre, mais maîtrisant toutes les disciplines littéraires pour s’engager par la création dans la défense et le développement d’une langue et d’une civilisation occitanes passionnément vécues. <p>La dimensión artística del arquitecto zaragozano Jose Borobio Ojeda (1907-1984) es una parte esencial de su vida que articula su trayectoria personal y profesional. El conjunto de su obra gráfica ha sido analizada y difundida en diferentes exposiciones y publicaciones. En este artículo centramos el estudio en los apuntes de arquitectura realizados durante un viaje de estudios al Albarracín organizado por Teodoro de Anasagasti en 1930. Dos años después, Anasagasti seleccionaría esos apuntes para ilustrar el periódico decenal de arquitectura <em>Anta</em> que él mismo editaba. La expresividad del trazo lineal característico de sus dibujos le convirtió en un protagonista del discurso gráfico del periódico.</p>

As Leis de expulsão de estrangeiros (decretos de n.os 1.641/1907 e 2.741/1913), de autoria do deputado Adolpho Gordo, foram editadas visando à expulsão de alienígenas considerados subversivos, particularmente os envolvidos com a prática do anarquismo. Este artigo busca estabelecer uma aproximação entre os discursos proferidos pelo deputado Gordo na ocasião da aprovação de ambas as leis, e os aportes teóricos do Direito Penal Positivo ligados à Criminologia desenvolvida pelo médico italiano Cesare Lombroso, sobretudo ao considerar o anarquista um criminoso profissional e portador de uma patologia. A hipótese defendida é que as referidas Leis são frutos da influência exercida pela Criminologia lombroseana sobre grande parte dos juristas, intelectuais e políticos nacionais, entre os anos de 1900-1930.

The cosmopolitan family Lestidae Calvert, 1901 has two widely distributed genera in the Americas: Archilestes Selys, 1862, and Lestes Leach, 1815. In Colombia, this family is represented by 11 species. In this study, we present a diagnosis of Lestidae species in Colombia based on a thorough review of the country’s main entomological collections. A total of 258 specimens representing ten species were examined. The species L. dichrostigma Calvert, 1909, is recorded for the first time. The presence of L. henshawi Calvert, 1907 is excluded, and the taxonomic status of L. sternalis (Navás, 1930) is discussed. Finally, we present distribution maps, photographs of Lestidae species, taxonomical important structures, and taxonomic keys for both males and females.

Abstract The paper seismograms from 100 years of observations in Denmark and Greenland has since October 2021 been made available through the Danish National Archives. Five case stories illustrate the quality and variation of the seismograms, and the historical context of operation of the stations. (1) The earliest recorded earthquake in the archive is recorded at GDH station in Greenland, where the 1907 Mw 7.2 earthquake in Tajikistan is recorded on smoked paper. (2) The first Danish earthquake is a local event close to Copenhagen in 1930. (3) We have illustrated the 50 megaton nuclear explosion in Novaya Zemlya in 1961—the largest nuclear test explosion ever. (4) The M 9.2 earthquake in Alaska in 1964 recorded on several instruments at COP. (5) A local earthquake in northeast Greenland recorded both on paper on World-Wide Standard Seismographic Network instruments and digitally on a modern broadband instrument.

Este texto tem como objetivo refletir acerca do impacto que as diferentes dinâmicas políticas tiveram sobre as ações sanitárias e a saúde durante parte do primeiro período republicano brasileiro (1889-1930). Usamos como fonte documental os relatórios do presidente de Estado aos membros da Assembleia Legislativa do Estado do Amazonas entre 1907 e 1912. Como suporte teórico-metodológico, utilizamos Ujvari (2003) para discutir a evolução do conceito de doença e das chamadas “artes de curar”, e Varga (2007), Peiter (2005) e Albuquerque Júnior (2008) para relacionar as fronteiras sanitárias “dos Amazonas” como um espaço de disputas. Em nossos resultados identificamos que as comissões sanitárias na construção da Estrada de Ferro Madeira-Mamoré não mudaram o quadro sanitário do Estado do Amazonas.

Aussi inattendue que la comparaison puisse paraître, Hergé (1907-1983) et J. D. Fergusson (1874-1961) fournissent deux exemples pertinents de recyclage culturel. L’île noire, album clé parmi les aventures de Tintin, s’inspire librement de Buchan, Hitchcock et du folklore écossais, tandis que Fergusson suit les Impressionnistes et les post-Impressionistes bien avant que ceux-ci ne deviennent populaires ailleurs. C’est en comparant deux artistes actifs à partir des années 1930 mais travaillant dans des milieux géographiques et sociaux très différents que nous pouvons établir l’importance des liens culturels dans la construction et la compréhension de l’épistémè d’une époque. Hergé et Fergusson explorent le passé afin d’influencer l’avenir, l’un fait venir l’Écosse en France et l’autre la France en Écosse.

Resumo Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar as estratégias discursivas que buscam legitimar uma interpretação autoritária do direito tanto nos regimes que lhe dão suporte como nos períodos de restabelecimento da democracia formal. Utiliza como fonte de pesquisa os pareceres produzidos entre as décadas de 1930 e 1950 por um dos juristas mais atuantes de nossos regimes de exceção: Carlos Medeiros Silva (1907-1983). O artigo está dividido em duas partes. Na primeira, analisa os pareceres produzidos durante o Estado Novo. Na segunda, os seus posicionamentos após a redemocratização do país em 1946. Argumenta-se que a intepretação autoritária do direito produzida durante a ditadura do Estado Novo resiste após a queda de Getúlio Vargas, confrontando, por meio de estratégias argumentativas, as determinações da Constituição de 1946.

This paper collects taxonomic changes in the families Hydrachnidae, Limnocharidae and Eylaidae which become necessary following revision of material from museum collections and recent field work. The following synonyms are established: Family Hydrachnidae, genus Hydrachna: The subgenera Anohydrachna Thor, 1916, Diplohydrachna Thor, 1916, Rhabdohydrachna K. Viets, 1931 are synonyms of Hydrachna s.str.; H. globosa neumani Lundblad, 1962a, and H. globosa rotundata Láska, 1964, are synonyms of H. globosa (De Geer, 1778); H. halberti Soar, 1908, H. levis Williamson, 1913 and H. levis acuminata K.O. Viets, 1954 are synonyms of H. incisa Halbert, 1903; H. perpera Koenike, 1908 is a synonym of H. processifera Koenike, 1903; H. skorikowi integra K. Thorburn Brailsford Robertson (1884–1930) was educated in Adelaide and held appointments at the University of California, Berkeley (where he completed his PhD in 1907), and the University of Toronto before taking up his appointment at Adelaide in 1919 as Australia's first Professor of Biochemistry. In his research on the biochemical basis of growth and senescence he discovered in pituitary tissue a growth factor he called Tethelin. He made important contributions to the fabric and collegiality of the University of Adelaide. Amongst his many scientific contributions he was the first person outside Canada to prepare insulin, a project taken up by the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories. In 1927 he became the first Chief of the Division of Animal Nutrition in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, for whom he investigated sheep nutrition and wool growth.

Josefina de la Torre Millares (1907-2002) es una de las grandes autoras de la joven literatura. Pese a la indudable calidad de su obra poética y a su inclusión en la segunda edición de la célebre antología Poesía española contemporánea (1934) de Gerardo Diego, su figura fue olvidada durante años. En las últimas décadas han surgido varios estudios destinados a recuperar su legado. Este trabajo se propone seguir ahondando en su obra poética a través del análisis de un tema recurrente en sus poemarios: el recuerdo. Se trazará la evolución de dicho concepto mediante el estudio de los poemas incluidos en los cuatro libros poéticos que publicó en vida: Versos y estampas (1927), Poemas de la isla (1930), Marzo incompleto (1945 y 1968) y Medida del tiempo (1940-1989).

Partindo do princípio de que a produ- ção artística de um determinado perí- odo pode contribuir para um entendimento mais rico de um momento da história de uma cidade, este trabalho oferece uma reflexão sobre as representações do Recife presentes nas pinturas do artista Cícero Dias (1907- 2003), realizadas no final da década de 1920 e início dos anos 1930. Nessa época período, ele pintou uma série de quadros que revelam fragmentos e detalhes da capital pernambucana, explorando a paisagem e introduzindo cenas do cotidiano com seus elementos e personagens. As pinturas remontam a um passado e parecem propositalmente esquecer aspectos do presente, criando paisagens que transitam entre sonho, saudosismo e/ou nostalgia. Seria uma tentativa de frear os efeitos do progresso que começavam a alterar a imagem do Recife? O que impulsionaria o artista a querer preservar aquilo que ameaçava desaparecer? Para responder às questões, buscou-se estudar a trajetória de Cícero Dias, identificando suas influências artísticas e o contexto cultural que acompanhou o processo de modernização da cidade. Assim, busca-se entender que elementos o artista destaca, nega e/ou ressignifica em suas pinturas. Por meio desta análise, acredita-se poder oferecer elementos para um entendimento mais rico e diverso do Recife dos anos 1920 pela pintura.

The Uniform Small Loan Law (usll)—the primary tool of the Russell Sage Foundation (rsf) intended to improve credit conditions for poor people in the United States during first decades of the twentieth century—created a new class of lenders who could legally make small loans at interest rates exceeding those allowed for banks. By the 1930s, about two-thirds of the states had passed the usll. Econometric models show that urbanization, state-level economic characteristics, and the nature of a state's banking system all affected the chance of passage. That party-political affiliations had no effect is consistent with the usll's “progressive” character. The passage of the usll in one state, however, made passage less likely in neighboring or similar states. The evidence suggests that the rsf only imperfectly understood the political economy of the usll, and that a different overall approach might have produced a result closer to its real aims.
