Abstract (sommario):

El acelerado crecimiento urbano a escala global y sus efectos negativos sobre el sistema hídrico subterráneo natural se atribuyen principalmente a la concentración de población que registran las áreas urbanas. En el presente trabajo se analizó el crecimiento urbano de Ciudad Juárez (1920-1940; 1940-1950; 1950-1960; 1960-1970; 1970-1980; 1980-1990; 1990-2000; 2000-2010 y 2010-2015), los cambios de cobertura y uso de suelo urbano y el abatimiento del acuífero urbano. Los resultados derivan de la correlación estadística y espacial entre covariables generadas: Tasas de Cambio de Crecimiento Urbano Histórico (TCCUH: %), Tasas de Cambio de Usos de Suelo Urbano (TCUSU: %), Crecimiento Poblacional (Población: %) y Tasa de Cambio en Abatimiento (TCA: m año-1). El crecimiento fue de 35 222 ha. El uso habitacional está estrechamente ligado al uso industrial y de servicios. El nivel estático del acuífero arrojó TCA media de - 0.53 m año-1. Las covariables que mejor explicaron la TCA son TCCUH y la TCUSU. Del análisis del comportamiento del crecimiento urbano en función de los usos de suelo, se concluye que, de los usos, los habitacionales son los que mayor recurso de agua demandan.

Abstract (sommario):

У статті зроблений аналіз наукових досліджень китайських науковців щодо становлення та розвитку професійної підготовки дизайнерів інтер’єру в ХХ столітті. Деталізовано основні етапи становлення та розвитку та наведено характеристики кожного періоду історичного розвитку дизайну інтер’єру. Розроблена хронологія включає: І етап (початок ХХ ст. – 1910 р.р.) – початкова стадія, відсутня системна підготовка у сфері вищої освіти; ІІ етап (1920–1930-ті р.р.) – дизайн інтер’єру – частина архітектурного проєктування; ІІІ етап (1940–1950-ті р.р.) – започаткована професія дизайнера інтер’єру в КНР; ІV етап (1960–1970-ті р.р.) – занепад, індустрія дизайну інтер’єру в КНР зазнала сильного удару; V етап (1980‑ті р.р.) – відкриття освітніх програм з дизайну інтер’єру у закладах вищої освіти; VІ етап (1990–2000 р.р.) – збільшення освітніх програм та здобувачів на спеціальність «дизайн інтер’єру»; реформування змісту освітніх програм, пошук нових форм і методів підготовки майбутніх фахівців. У статті наведено характеристику кожного етапу. Встановлено, що до кінця 1990-х років китайські коледжі та університети пережили хвилю злиття та розширення, тому на перший план вийшла проблема нестачі викладачів, велика кількість з яких була залучена з інших університетів або аспірантів, працівників-практиків для здійснення повсякденного викладання курсів. Підкреслено, що індустрія дизайну інтер’єру продовжує розвиватися і прогресувати та стає популярною професією. Для того, щоб задовольнити попит на ринку заклади вищої освіти, пропонують навчальні курси для дизайнерів інтер’єру, які спрямовані на вдосконалення свої дизайнерських та професійних навичок. Крім того, у статті наведено, які заклади вищої освіти ведуть професійну підготовку фахівців з дизайну інтер’єру.

O texto se propõe a relacionar a trajetória da indústria fonográfica e da música popular no Brasil ao longo do século XX, a partir de suas interações com as indústrias radiofônica e televisiva. Para tanto, ele foi dividido em quatro fases principais: “das máquinas falantes nos trópicos à Casa Edison, 1900-1930”, “a era do cinema e do rádio, 1930-1950”, “a nova bossa da televisão, 1960-1970” e “em busca do popular, 1980-1990”. Nesse percurso, o texto busca refletir sobre questões como a concentração econômica da indústria fonográfica, a criação de um repertório musical propriamente “brasileiro”, em que certos gêneros musicais foram mais ou menos privilegiados de acordo com o desenvolvimento da própria indústria fonográfica.

В статье рассматриваются вопросы трансформации фольклорного наследия в исполнительском искусстве болгарских аккордеонистов. Четыре поколения музыкантов определяют основные направления трансформации и модернизации фольклорного наследия. Первое поколение - основатели (1930 -1940 годы); второе - виртуозные преемники (1950 - 1960 годы); третье - свадебные импровизаторы (1970 - 1980 годы) и четвертое - экспериментаторы (с начала 1990-х годов). Выявлен вклад наиболее ярких представителей в каждом из поколений, характерные особенности их исполнительского стиля и их вклад в развитие болгарского народного исполнительского искусства: Бориса Карлова, Ибро Лолова, Нешко Нешева, Петра Ральчева и Мартина Любенова. Обозначены основные тенденции трансформации болгарского музыкально- фольклорного наследия и их исполнительского стиля, включение фольклора в различные транснациональные музыкальные течения после 1990-х годов The article is dedicated to the transformations of folklore in performing activity of Bulgarian accordeonists. In this direction the author have written four generations of accordeonists, which define the mainstream for the transformation and modernization of the folklore heritage. First direction - the founders classics (1930s and 1940s ); second generation - the virtuosos heirs (1950s and 1960s); third generation - “wedding virtuosos” (1960s and 1970s) and fourth generation - experimenters virtuosos (since the beginning of the 1990s). The contribution of the most prominent representatives of generations is clarified, features of their performance style and their contribution to the development of Bulgarian folk performing art - Boris Karlov, Ibro Lolov, Neshko Neshev, Petar Ralchev and Martin Lyubenov. The author pays attention to the main transformation features of Bulgarian folklore in their performance style and the inclusion of folklore in different transnational musical events at the beginning of the 1990s

Résumé Meksi (Ermelinda), Dalla Zuanna (Gianpiero). - La mortalité générale en Albanie (1950-1990) Des statistiques, dont certaines étaient restées inédites, permettent de retracer l'évolution de la mortalité en Albanie de 1950 à 1990. Il faut cependant corriger les décès enregistrés pour tenir compte des omissions ; la population recensée, malgré ses inexactitudes, fournit un dénominateur acceptable pour le calcul des taux de mortalité par âge. Des tables ont ainsi été construites pour 1950, 1960, 1969, 1979 et 1989. L'espérance de vie à la naissance atteint 68 ans pour les hommes et 74 ans pour les femmes en 1989, soit un niveau comparable à celui de l'Italie vers 1970, mais les gains pour atteindre ces niveaux ont été plus rapides qu'en Italie. Les années 1950 et les années 1970 ont bénéficié de progrès substantiels, mais les années 1960 puis la décennie 1980 ont marqué de forts ralentissements, voire un recul, surtout pour les hommes. La surmortalité féminine de l'après-guerre, surtout marquée chez les petites filles et les femmes d'âge fécond, a laissé la place à une surmortalité masculine généralisée, surtout marquée vers 20 ans et vers 60 ans. A niveau égal d'espérance de vie à la naissance, la mortalité en Albanie diffère de celle des pays occidentaux : elle est plus forte chez les enfants, mais moindre chez les adultes. Ces évolutions peuvent être rattachées à l'histoire politique de l'Albanie : l'alliance avec l'Union Soviétique (1946-1961), puis avec le Chine populaire (1962-1978), avant l'isolement autarcique (1978-1990). Mais à chaque étape, le poids de la structure socioéco- nomique du pays, encore arriérée au lendemain de la guerre, encore agricole et traditionnelle aujourd'hui, est aussi largement sensible.

Tässä artikkelissa analysoidaan aikalaisaineiston avulla vanhusten hoidon yleisten kehitysvaiheiden muotoutumista Suomessa 1930-luvulta 2000-luvulle. Tarkastelunäkökulmana on historiallisuus ja monitasoisuus. Historiallisuus tarkoittaa ilmiön tarkastelua pitkällä aikavälillä ja historiallista tutkimusmenetelmää. Historiallisuuteen liittyy näkemys, jonka mukaan tämän päivän vanhusten hoidon järjestelyjen muotoutuminen perustuu pitemmän aikajänteen kehitykseen. Monitasoisuus liittää tarkastelun valtionhallinnon asettamiin vanhuspolitiikan tavoitteisiin (I-taso), kunnalliseen toimintaan (II-taso), hoito-organisaatioiden toimintaan (III-taso) sekä vanhusten hoitotyön käytäntöön (IV-taso). Tutkimuksen aikalaisaineistoina ovat viralliset dokumentit sekä vanhusten hoitotyötä tekevien muistitieto. Aineisto on analysoitu systematisoivalla tulkinnalla. Vanhusten hoidon kehitysvaiheet ovat: aktivointivaihe (1930–1950), luonnosteluvaihe (1950–1970), elävöittämisvaihe (1970–1990) sekä uudentamisvaihe (1990–).

Abstract (sommario):

City growth goes together with the development of infrastructure, and the power network is one of the most relevant towards economic development. The study of urban infrastructure through the analysis of anthropization coupled with power network growth can produce a tool that supports sustainable infrastructure planning, both economic and environmental. The case study focuses on Ambato, Ecuador, in the period from 1950 to 2019, and assesses quantitatively the changes in the city layout and the evolution of its power network. The data are adjusted to a sigmoid-type objective function through a non-linear least squares problem, that is solved using the Broyden–Fletcher–Goldfarb–Shanno (BFGS) method. Anthropization data show how the urban area grew during the study period: 37% (1950–1960), 53% (1960–1970), 80% (1970–1980), 35% (1980–1990), 39% (1990–2000), 38% (2000–2010), and 11% (2010–2019), mostly at the expense of agricultural land. The forecast for new power network users by 2050 yields a result of 203,630 total users with a population density of 4850 people/km2. The conclusion is that this type of analysis can help city planners and decision makers further understand city and infrastructure growth dynamics and produce policies that bolster sustainable city growth.

Приведен ретроспективный анализ исследований макрофитобентоса Черного и Азовского морей. Выделены основные 4 этапа: I этап (1860–1920-е гг.) – флористический; II этап (1930–1950-е гг.) – гидробиологический; III этап (1960–1990-е гг.) – флористическо-экологический; IV этап (с начала 2000-х гг.) – синергетический. В последние годы превалируют локальные флористические работы с описанием экологии и биологии отдельных видов. Необходимо усиление исследований макрофитобентоса Черного и Азовского морей во всех странах причерноморского региона.

Esta pesquisa discute a obra de José Leonilson (1957-1993), buscando examinar a troca constante que ela empreendeu com o universo da cultura de massa. Argumenta que o trabalho funda-se centralmente na reordenação meticulosa dos clichês colhidos a essa cultura, e que em tal processo de reordenação ele se empenha em restituir um lugar privilegiado para o \"sentimento\" e a expressão. Por um lado, a pesquisa permite constatar que a obra de Leonilson reivindicou a expressão de uma experiência subjetiva; por outro, que ela assumiu o risco de se converter em uma mera banalidade, almejando romper com o isolamento de uma esfera privada ao se lançar no comércio com os signos culturais.
This text discusses the work of José Leonilson (1957-1993), examining its constant interchanges with the universe of mass culture. The main argument is that the work is largely founded on the meticulous rearrangement of the clichés it gathers from that culture, and that, in the process, it tries to restitute a privileged position to sensibility and expression. The research attests, on the one hand, that Leonilsons work has claimed the expression of a subjective experience; but it has, on the other hand, took in the risk of becoming a mere banality, while aiming to break the isolation of a private sphere by venturing in the commerce with cultural signs.

Aims There are four very broad aims to the thesis. To assess whether new dimensions of democracy are emerging The first aim is to ascertain whether and in what senses new dimensions of democracy are emerging in Estonia. To explore whether there is a democratic shortfall The second aims is to consider the expectations of democracy both of the non-elite and elite groups, and to compare these with democratic reality. To assess the development of a 'new' democracy The third aim is to assess the development of a 'new' democracy. Estonia is a restored democracy. To challenge the ideas concerning previous democratic experience The fourth aim is to ascertain whether the 'restorationist principle' (Smith 1995) has been an assistance or a hindrance to democratic stability. Methods I attempt to create a comprehensive model from which to carry out a democratic 'audit' of Estonia. Established democratic experiences and Estonian democratic experience will be used in determining benchmarks Le. prerequisites and indicators for an analytical model from which to consider the re-established democracy in Estonia. This analytical model will help to identify certain characteristics of representative or pluralist democracy and its support systems, for instance historical background and political culture. Indicators are used, such as the level of trust or distrust of politicians. Indicators are open to many different interpretations, for example, why people do not vote in elections. These benchmarks and indicators facilitate a systematic comparative analysis and will help to establish more precisely the character and potential stability of the democracy that is emerging in Estonia. Questionnaires and interviews are used Literature review A variety of literature has been used for this research, the main ones are concerned with theory, in the form of up-to-date hooks and articles, post communist study, in the form of hooks, journals and websites and Estonia, in the form of journals, surveys and in particular, websites. Contribution to knowledge This study identifies gaps in knowledge and thus attempts to fill them. Estonia is a largely neglected country in the field of post communist study and this thesis aims to bridge some of these gaps. Generally, this thesis will contribute to the understanding of democracy, in particular stable democracy. It will challenge current understanding of stable democracy. It will examine whether a restored democracy is any more stable than a 'new' democracy - in particular whether a prior recent experience of democracy is an assistance or hindrance to democratic stability. It will contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the experience of post- Soviet Russians living outside Russia, including the perspectives of the Soviet Russian immigrant community in Estonia. By employing Ute concept of political stability it will be possible to assess whether Estonia was more stable as an authoritarian regime. From a more general perspective it may be possible to hypothesise about post communist democratic development. It could point to further lines of enquiry.

Sartre est considéré ou comme un philosophe ou comme un écrivain, soit romancier soit dramaturge soit essayiste ou encore comme un intellectuel engagé. Notre thèse essaie de définir les différentes images de Sartre dans les dix années qui suivent sa mort. Le point de départ, une étude linguistique : l'énonciation ne fait que confirmer la subjectivité des commentateurs malgré leur souci d'objectivité : Sartre n'étant pas un cas particulier. Sartre est ensuite situé dans l'actualité culturelle présentée par les médias puis dans les milieux scolaires grâce à un certain nombre d'enquêtes et enfin dans l'opinion française et internationale. La personnalité de Sartre reste multiple ; elle varie moins selon les medias et selon les tendances politiques que selon les domaines ou s'exerce son influence. Philosophie, littérature, politique, dramaturgie, Sartre tient tous les rôles mais il est impossible de lui donner une image unifiée. La thèse fournit donc les documents aux lecteurs intéressés
Sartre is considered either as a philosopher or as a writer, a novelist, a dramatist or yet an essay-writer, or as an "engaged" intellectual. Our thesis will try to define the different images of Sartre in the 10 years following his death. The starting point, a linguistic study: the statement only confirms the subjectivity of the commentators in spite of their willingness of objectivity as Sartre war not a particular case. Sartre in then present in the cultural world presented by the school world thanks to a great deal of surveys and finally anang the French and international opinion. The personality of Sartre remains multiple; it wearies less according to the media and the political trends than according to the fields where his influence is at work. Philosophy, literature, politics, dramatic art, Sartre holds all the different roles but it is impossible to give an unified image of him. Thus, the thesis provides some documents for the interested readers

Le but de notre these consiste a repondre a deux questions: la premiere, pourquoi y a t=il eu un "phenomene sartre" en chine dans le debut des annees 80 ?; et la seconde, comment sartre a-t-il ete recu en chine, notamment dans le domaine litteraire, par les chercheurs chinois tout au long des annees 80 ? elle comporte donc deux parties: la premiere tente d'eclairer l'arriere-plan historique de la societe chinoise au moment ou sartre a ete decouvert et a provoque immediatement un grand retentissement. Nous estimons que l'enthousiasme qu'eprouverent certains intellectuels et certains etudiants a l'egard de sartre et de l'existentialisme manifeste en effet une crise ideologique a la suite de la grande perturbation sociale provoquee par le revolution culturelle. L'oeuvre de sartre, de ce point de vue, a repondu a un besoin urgent de l'epoque, celui de l'humanisme et a contribue a l'evolution des mentalites. Les deuxieme partie est consacree a l'etude de la facon dont les chercheurs chinois percoivent l'oeuvre et la creation litteraire de sartre. Un probleme majeur a ete releve dans les etudes sartriennes: la predominance ideologique qui fait que le critere politique est omnipresent dans les etudes litteraires, ce qui rend souvent difficiles le debat et les discussions entre chercheurs et aboutit a simplifier abusivement l'interpretation de ses oeuvres
The aim of our thesis consists of the response to two questions: the first, why did there exist a "sartre phenomenon" in china in the early days of the 80s ?; and the second, how was sartre received in china, particularly in respect of literature, by chinese researchers throughout the 80s thus it is composed of two parts: the first attempts to clarify the historical background of chinese society when sartre was discovered and which gave rise immediately to great repercussions. We estimate that the enthusiasm for sartre and the existentialism of certain intellectuals and certain students strikes an ideological crisis after a heavy social perturbation provoked by the cultural revolution. From this point of view, sartre's works were geared to the urgent needs of that times which was humanism and contribud to the evolution of the mentality. The second party was used to study the comprehension of these chinese researchers to sartre's works and his literary creation. A major problem has been revealed in the study of sartre: the ideological superiority shows that the political standard is entangled in the literary study which usually makes debate and discussion between the researchers difficult. This then leads to excessive simplicity of the interpretation of his works

Abstract Stroke mortality rates have shown a consistent decline in many countries (Anonymous 1983; Bonita et al. 1990; McGovern et al. 1992; Wolf et al. 1992; Brown et al. 1996; Tuomilehto et al. 1996b; Thorvaldsen et al. 1997; Gale and Martyn 1997). In the USA the rate of decline has been about 0.5 per cent/year from 1900 to 1920, 1 per cent/year from 1920 to 1950, about 1.5 per cent/year from 1950 to 1970 and about 4-5 per cent/year from 1974 onwards (Ostfeld 1980; Whisnant 1984). In England and Wales, a similar decline starting in 1900 and affecting all age groups has been seen (Wolfe and Burney, 1992; Charlton et al. 1997; Ebrahim, 1998) and is shown in Fig. 3.1. The rise in stroke mortality rates over the war years remains unexplained but affected both men and women and is probably due to coding changes to causes of death that occurred when a new version of the International Classification of Diseases was introduced. The pattern is markedly different from that for ischaemic heart disease deaths, which increased from 1929 to the 1950s, and only started to decline in the 1980s.

Anyone who stood on the bridge over the Río Guacimal at Monteverde on a wet-season night in the early 1980s would understand Archie Carr’s sentiments. Nearly 300 male Fleischmann’s Glass Frogs (Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni) defended territories along a 120-m section of the stream, and their loud, incessant “peeps” filled the air. In the late 1980s, however, this chorus all but fell silent as the number of glass frogs plummeted. The population has not recovered. In 1998, only a single male could be heard from the bridge. The dramatic reduction in glass frogs was part of a larger decline of Monteverde’s amphibians. A sudden crash of populations in 1987 affected species throughout the area and led to the disappearance of many (Pounds 1990, 1991a, 1997, Crump et al. 1992, Pounds and Crump 1994, Pounds and Fogden 1996, Pounds et al. 1997). The disappearance that has drawn the most attention, however, is that of the Golden Toad (Bufo periglenes). This species, known only from elfin cloud forest high on the ridgetops at Monteverde, is famous for its striking appearance and the colorful spectacle of its breeding congregations (Savage 1966, Jacobson 1983, Fogden and Fogden 1984, Jacobson and Vandenberg 1991; see Savage, “Discovery of the Golden Toad,”. Because the Golden Toad had been locally abundant in seemingly undisturbed habitats for at least 17 consecutive years, its sudden disappearance caused great alarm and dismay (Pounds et al. 1997). Interest in this case has intensified with the suggestion that it is part of a global pattern (Barinaga 1990, Blaustein and Wake 1990, 1995, Phillips 1990, 1994, Wyman 1990, Wake 1991, Wake and Morowitz 1991, Sarkar 1996; see Pounds, “Monteverde Salamanders,”). Many similar declines and disappearances have been reported for highland areas of other continents (Corn and Fogleman 1984, Heyer et al. 1988, Osborne 1989, Weygoldt 1989, Czechura and Ingram 1990, La Marca and Reinthaler 1991, Carey 1993, Fellers and Drost 1993, Kagarise Sherman and Morton 1993, Drost and Fellers 1996, Laurance et al.

The original alignment model was a largely theoretical construct that studied only a single industry (Henderson & Venkatraman, 1990; Henderson & Thomas, 1992) but has since been adapted for use by virtually any industry looking to integrate their business strategies with their information technology strategies (Papp, 1995; Luftman, Papp, & Brier, 1995).

Abstract Fluid is a major component of cartilaginous tissues. Its transport is primarily governed by the hydraulic permeability coefficient of the tissue. The hydraulic permeability coefficient is important to the understanding of the transport processes of interstitial water and ions [e.g., Gu et al, 1993] and the viscoelastic behavior of the tissue [e.g., Mow et al, 1980; Setton et al, 1993]. However, the hydraulic permeability coefficients of these tissues are extremely low and difficult to quantify precisely. Studies in the literature report on the determination of the hydraulic permeability of these tissues directly by measuring fluid flux corresponding to the applied pressure difference in a permeation experiment [Edwards, 1967; Mansour and Mow, 1976; Mansour and Matsumoto, 1998; Maroudas and Bullough, 1968; McCutchen, 1962] or indirectly by curvefitting experimental data from confined compression or indentation tests using the biphasic theory[e.g., Athanasiou et al, 1991; Best et al, 1994; Drost et al, 1995; Houben et al, 1997, Iatridis et al, 1997; Mak et al, 1987; Mansour and Matsumoto, 1998; Mow et al, 1980; Setton et al, 1993]. Recently, Gu and co-workers (1998) reported that the permeability coefficient of human anulus fibrosus determined directly was one order of magnitude greater than that determined indirectly [e.g. Best et al, 1994, Drost et al, 1995, Houben et al, 1997, Iatridis et al, 1997]. To address this discrepancy, we investigated the hydraulic permeability coefficients of human lumbar anulus fibrosus and bovine articular cartilage using a new technique developed by Gu and co-workers (1998). The hydraulic permeability coefficient of human anulus fibrosus was compared to that of bovine articular cartilage measured under the same testing conditions.

Abstract The reliability of surface mount leadless solder joints, e.g., LCCC (leadless ceramic chip carrier), LCR (leadless chip resistor), and LCC (leadless chip capacitor), has been a long-term research topic due to the concern of thermal fatigue failure resulting from significant stresses and strains induced in the joint. Numerous studies of failure analysis of leadless solder joints exist in the literature, and a number of life prediction models based on different failure characterizing parameters, e.g., total strain, plastic strain, strain energy density, etc., have been developed for particular loading conditions, such as isothermal or thermal cyclic fatigue tests. Several studies in recent years have demonstrated strong effects of typography on text legibility (Arditi, 1996; Arditi, Cagenello, & Jacobs, 1995; Arditi, Knoblauch, & Grunwald, 1990; Loomis, 1990; Mansfield, Legge, & Bane, 1996; Tinker, 1963). The approach taken in this laboratory has been to assess the effects of typographic variables by comparing legibility of fonts that vary only in the dimension of interest (e.g. stroke width, spacing). While in the past we have used reading speed as a legibility criterion (Arditi et al., 1990; Knoblauch, Arditi, & Szlyk, 1991), our recent work has defined legibility as the smallest letter size that can be effectively read. In the present study we examine the legibility of outline fonts relative to their solid counterparts, under conditions of wide and close spacing.

Letter optotypes such as Sloan letters (NAS-NRC, 1980) are typically used in the clinical assessment of spatial vision, and scoring procedures are usually based on the number of individual letters that are identified correctly (e.g., Bailey et al., 1991; Elliott et al., 1991). This approach assumes that all Sloan letters have approximately equal identifiability, but there is some disagreement on this point (e.g., Elliott et al., 1990; Robson et al., 1990; Ferris et al., 1993). This may be due to the method used to assess identifiability. Typically, previous studies have assessed letter identifiability by measuring percent correct at threshold; relatively few have examined thresholds per se. Depending on the nature of the underlying psychometric function, these two approaches may not provide equivalent estimates of relative letter identifiability.

Abstract (sommario):

The study global objective is to provide an analysis of the efficiency of the Thai life insurance industry during 1990-1997. This research utilizes data envelopment analysis (DEA), a mathematical programming approach, to calculate efficiency. To investigate productivity changes, a Malmquist analysis is used to determine whether and the extent of efficiency changes. This study found that the Thai life insurance industry seems to have regressed in terms of efficiency after 1992. This drop in total efficiency was due to the inability of the average firm to keep pace with the best-practice life insurer as well as to loss in scale efficiency. This may be because Thailand did not adopt more liberal policies and maintained restrictive regulatory regimes. The evidence suggests that, during 1990-1997, productively growth was stimulated, particularly during 1995-1997. Productively growth in the Thai life insurance market was caused primarily by technological change due to an expanding production frontier rather than an improvement in technical efficiency. Study result is consistent with the view that a host –country insurers benefit from foreign investment. Study results, hence, provide some evidence supporting Thai regulatory changes that would enable host-country insurers to benefit from a more open market.

Usando series históricas de ingresos y gastos ejecutados por los distintos niveles de gobierno para el periodo 1923-2020, este documento describe la evolución de los desequilibrios fiscales verticales y horizontales entre el gobierno nacional, los departamentos y los municipios en Colombia. El análisis permite identificar cuatro grandes momentos de las finanzas públicas territoriales en Colombia. Las décadas de 1910 y 1920 constituyen un primer momento marcado por el fortalecimiento de la autonomía fiscal de los gobiernos subnacionales. Posteriormente, con la República Liberal en los treinta, inició un segundo periodo caracterizado por reformas centralizadoras que buscaron robustecer los ingresos del gobierno nacional central, y en menor medida los de municipios y departamentos. En el lapso de 1960-1990, los cambios se enfocaron en corregir los desbalances fiscales existentes a través del aumento de las transferencias a las regiones, la creación de institutos descentralizados y fondos territoriales, y la introducción de un nuevo estatuto tributario territorial en 1983. Finalmente, un último momento inicia con la Constitución Política de 1991, la cual dio un impulso final a la descentralización y abrió el camino hacia las reformas que construyeron el actual marco normativo de las finanzas públicas territoriales en Colombia.

The decade of the 1990s has witnessed a wave of regional integration initiatives in Latin America: more than 14 agreements -free trade areas or customs unions- since 1990 with a handful more in varying degrees of negotiation (see Table 1). However, this was not just a Latin American phenomenon, as regionalism has more than ever become a global trend (Mistry [1996]). Indeed, now Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong are the only World Trade Organization (WTO) members which are not signatories to at least one preferential trade agreement (WTO [1995]). Regional integration is not new to Latin America. Economic integration played an important role in the region¿s early Post-War economic history. The 1960s and 1970s saw a number of very ambitious initiatives inspired by the successful Western European experience (Ffrench-Davis, Muñoz and Palma [1994]). Indeed, at its peak in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the topic of integration was hard to avoid in the discussion of Latin American development. However, disillusionment with integration processes had clearly set in by the late 1970s and the discussion of regional integration was all but silenced by the external crisis of the early 1980s.
