Abstract (sommario):
Today, 98% of peer-reviewed scientific publishing is in English, which is also the official language of most scientific events and international academic journals. UNESCO, through its Recommendation on Open Science, has called on scientific institutions to foster multilingualism in the practice of science, in scientific publications, and in academic communications. At The Lancet, we recognize the need to provide more equitable and inclusive access to scientific knowledge by providing abstracts translated into relevant languages. Following a pilot, a workflow for abstract translation was devised. I present here details of our abstract translation procedure and rollout.

Abstract (sommario):
In an attempt to capture the fundamental features that are common to neural networks, we define a parameterized Neural Abstract Machine (NAM) in such a way that the major neural networks in the literature can be described as natural extensions or refinements of the NAM. We illustrate the refinement for feedforward networks with back-propagation training. The NAM provides a platform and programming language independent basis for a comparative mathematical and experimental analysis and evaluation of different implementations of neural networks. We concentrate our attention here on the computational core (Neural Kernel NK) and provide abstract interfaces for the other NAM components.

Abstract (sommario):
Lyrical Abstract Art appeared in post-World War II in Europe (France), while in Turkey it was seen after the 1950s, apart from figurative, landscape and geometric abstraction. The aim of the research is to uncover the differences and similarities between European and American Lyric abstract art and the Lyric art and artists that emerged in Turkey after 1950. The importance of the research is to determine the place of Lyric art in art by revealing its status in Europe and America and its place in Turkish Art. This research was done by qualitative research method and the literature was searched and the research was done by looking at articles, dissertations, internet sources, documentary DVDs of Lyric art in America and Europe. European and American Lyric artists and post-1950 Turkish Lyric artists constitute the universe of the research. According to George Mathieu, the fact that a work is not based on any references advises us not to reference it in nature. The lyric (informel) is in competition with Abstract Expressionism in America.; according to Adnan Turani, the work can be worked in a non-figurative manner as well as it can be transferred to lyrical abstraction after abstraction. TURKISH_______________ Lirik Soyut sanat II.

Charlie, Steg. "CUTTING EDGE ART 'Abstract art versus beauty'. By Charlie Steg." November 22, 2021. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5718010.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Describing abstract art is a really complex task and can lead us to even more insatiable fields. Undoubtedly, it is the opposite of the figurative and of the representation of recognizable images. Now, is it really aesthetic or beautiful? Below, Hoboken, New Jersey abstract artist Charlie Steg tries to answer some of these questions. Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy, which studies the essence and perception of beauty, reflects on objects that produce emotions and that lead to value them as beautiful, ugly or sublime. An aesthetic experience is the pleasure, enjoyment, feeling or pleasant emotion that aesthetic objects cause on the senses. Beauty is everything that produces an aesthetic experience in the subject. Art used to be an imitation of nature or reality. At present, we consider art as the expression of the feelings and emotions experienced by the artist, beyond his fidelity to reality and nature. The feeling that a work of art arouses is a very controversial subject, although a point has not been defined in which the feeling of beauty can be strictly objective or subjective, since it is difficult to expose what a true work of art is. Classic Beauty Criticism of the trial is a fundamental work in the history of art, written by Immanuel Kant. In this, he proposes that beauty should refer only to the form and not to the matter, thus in general beauty can be called the expression of aesthetic ideas, beauty is the expression of the form, in a beautiful object it consists of the relationship of the parts that constitute it in a space, either in nature or in the work of art and in a second moment as the expression of the aesthetic ideas that the author embodies in his work. The form in Kant is what makes the diversity of the same phenomenon can be ordered in certain relationships, thus the form of the object is what is taken into account for the judgment on beauty. Kandinsky arrives with a definition of beauty practically opposite to that of Kant, the beautiful is no longer what pleases for its form, but the beautiful work of art is the one that more purely manifests a series of emotions, which govern color and to the non-figurative form. Kandinsky tries to go into the non-figurative to achieve the expression of the interior element, this is what beautiful art consists of. With this tendency to pursue inner beauty, Kandinsky distances himself more and more from any possible representation. He managed to fragment the representation of beautiful art in his works. This new type of beauty clearly emerges from the category of the sublime, while the category of beauty is relegated to the past. The fact that Duchamp titled it, signed it, and presented it for an exhibition stripped the object of its urinal function and turned it into a work of art. In contemporary art we find a concept of beauty that ridicules the ideal of previous centuries, it is intended to show the beautiful in confrontation with the ugly, the practical against the artistic or the vulgar against the cultured. However, beauty does not fade, it jumps from art to advertising, fashion, design and day to day. Current art does not have to follow the concept of beauty that was taken as a reference throughout the history of art, it is the artist who chooses. The artist can make a beautiful work in his own way, if that is his intention or desire, but it is no longer an obligation. Beauty does not die in contemporary art from a subjective point of view, in which there are subjects who appreciate the work itself as beautiful, and are capable of understanding the abstraction that it entails, that is, its meaning. Kooning is one of the most representative painters of Abstract Expressionism. His style is framed within action painting, a technique that consists of impulsively throwing the paint onto the canvas. Among the chaotic abstraction generated by his brush, we can recognize some figurative elements that make the painting's background obvious. It is the beginning of a series of grotesque and fierce women who denote adoration for women and at the same time transmit the force of feminine power. Thanks to this, it is considered one of the most important representations of women in the entire history of painting. This uninhibited-looking painting, which appears to have been painted by Kooning in one day, actually spent two years doing countless preliminary studies and repainting it over and over again. Art is not identified with natural reality but with an imaginative reality, that is, with the idea and the mental image that the artist and the viewer make for themselves. Beauty is expressing the inner element without being determined by a concept. The overflow of the imagination is exhibited, of the feelings awakened by the sensation of the own infinity. The sublime runs through modern art.

Avrumi, Mashinsky. "Avrumi Mashinsky: History of Abstract Painting." January 25, 2021. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4462728.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
“In the history of art, one cannot ignore the appearance of photography, which will have direct consequences on the development of painting,” says abstract painter Avrumi Mashinsky. As early as 1839, it appeared indeed as a competing technique of painting: painters felt directly concerned when they discovered that they were no longer needed to describe, represent, illustrate functions that were too easily confused with the purpose of their practice. But at the same time, Avrumi Mashinsky claims that the idea of the museum began to sensitize the public to another approach to creation, where what is represented matters less than how it is represented. Art continues to be oriented by the desire to translate the visible, but painters highlight the different components of painting: line, composition, color, material, which they question the possibilities by giving an ever more place great in the way of painting. At the same time, Avrumi Mashinsky indicates that advances in science show the world in a very different way, under the gaze of figures like Bergson, Freud, Plank or Einstein. The painting becomes an object before being a representation. The creative process becomes part of the work. According to Avrumi Mashinsky, who has a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in History of Arts from the Rutgers University, the precursors of abstract painting are Seurat - his paintings are in fact only series of colored dots - and, above all, Monet, who will push his studies on Water Lilies to the point of virtual dissolution of forms, which he converts into colors - moreover, he would not really be understood until after 1945. But his experience had direct consequences for Kandinsky, since it was in front of one of Monet's "Haystacks" that he decided to become a painter. As Avrumi Mashinsky further shares, Gauguin compared painting to music. "I obtain by arrangements of lines and colors, with the pretext of any subject, harmonies representing nothing absolutely real, not expressing any idea directly, but having to make people think, as music makes people think and awakens images. He concludes by recalling that "a painting, before being a workhorse, a naked woman or any anecdote, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order. " Avrumi Mashinsky points out that Braque and Picasso, starting from Cézanne's ideas revitalized by contact with Negro art, affirm, in cubism, the primacy of the construction of the painting. Their art, however, remains figurative. But the subject is no longer just a pretext: the painting finds its raison d'etre in itself (this was already the case in Monet's "series"). According to the abstract painter, Avrumi Mashinsky, the first abstract painters will highlight the characteristic elements of a new sensibility: color, rhythm and matter. Thus with Duchamp trying to represent the fourth dimension: time (Man descending a staircase) - or with Malévitch (The grinder). And then, with the advent of all-powerful science, "machines" invaded paintings (Léger, Duchamp, Picabia). Moreover, for Duchamp, painting should no longer only "be visual or retinal but also concern gray matter".
