Abstract (sommario):
Grinding performance can be influenced by various grinding conditions including workpiece materials properties, grinding wheel properties, grinding operational parameters and dressing operational parameters. In order to achieve stable optimal grinding performance, it is important to select the most suitable operational control parameters to match grinding requirement and to minimize the effects of grinding wheel wear and other changes in the process environment. The paper presents a simple adaptive control logic strategy for the selection of dressing and grinding conditions based on available sensing techniques. In this study, desirable grinding behaviour is discussed to demonstrate how to extract useful process information to guide process parameter adjustment for a stable satisfactory grinding performance.

Abstract (sommario):
SUMMARYThe complex life-cycles of parasitic animals are a product of exploiting the process of development to generate organisms with different biological potentials within a species. Successive stages of the parasite adapt to functions such as host invasion and transmission, and to the colonization of a variety of niches, often involving different hosts, tissues or cells. Understanding the molecular basis of adaptive biology among parasities is a major challenge that lies at the heart of research in contemporary parasitology. Differences in scale at the levels of genomic complexity and cell biology exist between most parasitic protozoa and helminths, rendering a cautionary note to making generalized observations. The two principal approaches used to gain insights into adaptive specializations are to start with a biological activity and identify the molecule, or select molecules with particular properties and deduce function. Both have their part to play, with their inherent advantages and limitations, and both are illustrated with examples of studies on adaptive biology among parasitic nematodes.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper describes an adaptive learning system based on mobile phone email to support the study of Japanese Kanji. In this study, the main emphasis is on using the adaptive learning to resolve one common problem of the mobile-based email or SMS language learning systems. To achieve this goal, the authors main efforts focus on three aspects: sending the contents to a learner following his or her interests, adjusting the difficulty level of the tests to suit the learner’s proficiency level, and adapting the system to his or her learning style. Additionally, this system has already been evaluated by the learners and the results show that most of them benefited from the system and would like to continue using it.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Personalizing education by adapting learning opportunities and instructional practices to individual abilities and dispositions has been a long-standing objective among educators and indeed, among all who seek more powerful learning experiences. Interest in adapting learning opportunities to meet the needs of learners has continued throughout history up to the present time. Purpose This article considers both historical and contemporary work to create adaptive learning opportunities to illustrate the various strands of thought about the personalization of learning experiences and to identify active lines of relevant research and development activities. Research Design A wide range of work to create adaptive learning applications both within the education sector and the research community and beyond is reviewed. The review is organized according to a model of the processes leading to adaptive learning opportunities that calls attention to seven categories of work encompassing everyday tasks, learning tasks, learning theory, assessment, curriculum, teaching, and networking activities. Conclusions After noting some promising directions for additional work, the paper concludes by identifying issues that should be considered in the further development of adaptive learning applications to avoid potential negative effects.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim and contribution of this paper at a theoretical level is to discuss CAS and the principles thereof as an alternative to traditional management models as an option to enhance SD in an integrated and holistic manner. At a practical level, the author discusses management and leadership suggestions to implement the principles of CAS to enhance SD. A CAS approach is not static and allows for and encourages emergence as a result to the changing internal and external environments. As CAS is a process that allows for constant change and adaptation it could be compatible in the organization’s SD challenge that is also constantly changing and adapting in response to the internal and external environments. Translating an integrated, holistic and CAS approach might require some cognitive, structural and political changes in the thinking about and understanding of how to deal with SD

Abstract (sommario):
This paper will cover the development of Adaptive secondary skin system. Adaptation is essential to managing the problem of climate change. In order to meet this growing challenge, the system will propose a new generation of secondary skin that optimize their configuration in real time by responding to environmental. Performance-based technologies in architectural element have barely lived up to their full potential. The secondary skin system is developed using kinetic object method that could generate changeability in its shape, pattern, and orientation that was controlled by actuators. These actuators received inputs from surrounding environmental data. Furthermore parametric tools, sensors, and environmental modeling was used to create truly dynamic and responsive secondary building skin.

Abstract (sommario):
With continuous developments in the integration of culture and tourism, adaptive reuse has highlighted the vitality of historic conservation areas while simultaneously causing great challenges to urban life, local economy, and cultural sustainability. Current studies focus on the adaptive reuse of historic buildings, with little focus on historic conservation areas. To expand this understanding further, this study investigated and analyzed the challenges faced by Chengdu historic conservation areas in the context of adapting to the tourism environment, from multiple perspectives, and proposed corresponding protection and development strategies. The results of the study obtained using field investigation and semi-structured interviews contribute to the literature on the adaptive reuse of historic conservation areas; they deepen our understanding of the identified factors and provide in-depth knowledge. These findings provide a reference for future practices and promote the sustainable development of historic conservation areas for improved conservation and economic returns.

Abstract (sommario):
In order to react adequately to the complex, fast-changing and politicised environments in which development projects operate, donors have started adopting more adaptive project management approaches. Projects dealing with civil society actors in particular are said to benefit from adaptive management. As adaptive management largely depends on locally led and politically smart programming, it is presented as one avenue for addressing long-standing problems of civil society organisations, such as donor dependency, lack of legitimacy and accountability issues. However, the evidence base concerning the effects of adaptive management is scarce and rather anecdotal and an overarching definition of adaptive management has not been established. In order to work towards an academic research agenda for adaptive management, the article systematically reviews twenty-one case studies to generate insights into what donors and implementers consider as adaptive practices, their perceived effects, obstacles and derived recommendations. The article thus contributes to identifying which actors are driving the adaptive agenda, which practices are considered as adaptive, what we can learn from first pilot interventions and which research gaps can be derived from this analysis.

Abstract (sommario):
The world is changing fast, and cities are facing complex transitions in economic, social and environmental areas. Therefore, the design of city systems will play an essential role in shaping a sustainable, innovative and livable future. Adaptive urban profiling was recently presented as a useful tool for municipals to enhance sustainable city development. It builds upon profile oriented marketing while including elements of adaption management. Thus, city managers can increase their cities attractiveness by providing it with a clear profile that is recognized around the world on the one hand, while flexibly adapting to change if necessary. Only an integrated approach that puts people first can hope to succeed on a global scale. In this paper, an action-oriented model for strengthening and accelerating futureoriented city development is designed in the light of current and future challenges of urbanization. Already existing successful marketing, i.e. profile-oriented marketing, and management models, i.e. adaptive management are adapted from organizations and are sharpened and enriched in their application to cities. The focus lies on the usability of these marketing concepts to increase the sustainability and development quality of urban spaces within city structures. This work addresses city planners and public managers and shall help them prioritize and tackle next innovative and future steps to establish and foster a clearly structured future vision and profile to guarantee a high quality of living and sustainable urban development. A new dynamic profiling model, i.e. the adaptive urban profiling model, shall increase the visibility and uniqueness of competitive sustainable and future-oriented urban structures and provide solutions to optimize the urban living environment.

Abstract (sommario):
A new shape-adaptive compliant tool system is developed in this essay, which can be effectually integrated with industrial robots and five-axis NC machines. The main principle of the above compliant tool system can be described as follows: a passive servo mechanism of bi-directional rotating sphere hinge, working with the robots to control the tool-path which can meet the requirements of the adaptive capability on free-form surfaces. The normal polishing force could be controlled by the designed linear stepping motor and column helix spring system. The virtual prototyping of the tool system is created in ADAMS, and used to take the simulating experiments on workpieces which have typical free-form surfaces. The experimental results indicate that the tool system developed in this essay performs well on shape-adaptive capacity on free-form surfaces.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract (sommario):
Across development, interactions between value-based learning and memory processes promote the formation of mental models that enable flexible goal pursuit. Value cues in the environment signal information that may be useful to prioritize in memory; these prioritized memories in turn form the foundation of structured knowledge representations that guide subsequent learning. Critically, neural and cognitive component processes of learning and memory undergo marked shifts from infancy to adulthood, leading to developmental change in the construction of mental models and how they are used to guide goal-directed behavior. This review explores how changes in reciprocal interactions between value-based learning and memory influence adaptive behavior across development and highlights avenues for future research.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is aimed at building up a model of e-commerce development adapted to the realities of our time and peculiarities of the development of infocommunications of the country. The current status of development of infocommunications is analyzed together with related activities of the enterprises, which are using the digital platforms for conduct of business. It is determined that the development of e-commerce is slowed by the inequality of access to modern information and communication technologies and low activity of certain economic actors regarding trade operations through the Internet. An adaptive model of e-commerce development is proposed, which is based on the consideration of the conditions of the external contour of development of enterprise along with the internal contour in the aspect of the existing resource base and potential development opportunities. The model requires an information base of e-commerce development processes, contains methodical principles for analyzing the internal and external contours of e-commerce development, as well as methods of forecasting changes in the external contour and determining the internal potential. The necessary element of the model is determination of the criteria for the possibility of e-commerce development in existing conditions combined with formation of a list of invariant models for different platforms, which would be the most acceptable in the conditions of external contour. The need to take into account existing cyber risks and apply measures to minimize them in the process of e-commerce development is substantiated. It is defined that the development of e-commerce leads to an effect on micro-, meso- and macro-levels, which in the end can lead to emergence of a synergistic effect. The feedback function contained in the model allows to link the stage of determining the results to the formation of invariant models of development, which should be activated in the absence of desirable results according to the selected model of e-commerce development. Further research will be directed to substantiate the criteria that determine the possibility of e-commerce development under the conditions of both internal and external contours.
