Agribusiness is a fast emerging industrial sector and becomes a most important sector of Indian economy due to boosting up the economy and taking care of global opportunities of trade. Nowadays, agriculture has achieved commercial importance and status is changed from subsistence to commercial farming, import oriented to export oriented, supply driven technology to demand driven technology due to agribusiness sector. Agribusiness is a complex and comprehensive system of industry chain, which is playing a vital role in Indian economy. Generally, Agribusiness is difficult to understand due to its elusive and complex nature while understanding the concept, system, structure, and components of agribusiness is essential to understand the whole agribusiness environment. Agribusiness is made of various sectors like input sector, production sector, processing sector and marketing service sector, in which the main value-added sector concentrated on the post-production sectors. The agribusiness is greatly expanding India's agricultural development and providing a possible choice for modernization of Indian agriculture. The present article is a systematic effort to introduce the structure and subsystem of agribusiness along with the different components of agribusiness system.

Regional development discusses very strategically in the completion of the implementation of national development. The economic development of each region through economic growth, which is at the same time an indicator, provides an overview of where regional economic development in a given period has resulted in an increase in income for the community which increases per capita income. Agribusiness still has a bigger role in Kerinci Regency, because most of the population of Kerinci Regency supports their lives from the agribusiness sector. The strategic role of agribusiness in the economy of Kerinci Regency includes: food providers for the population of Indonesia, foreign exchange earners through exports, providers of industrial raw materials, increased employment and business opportunities, increased regional income, poverty alleviation and drivers of other economic sectors. In fact, a large number of agribusinesses have considerable production value in Kerinci Regency. This study aimed was to: (1) Analyze the types of superior agricultural commodities, and (2). Review the growth structure of agricultural commodities in Kerinci Regency. The design of this study used descriptive research methods that were descriptions of goals. The aim was that the author wanted to analyze the types of superior agribusiness commodities with the Location Quotient (Location Question) method and examine the structure of the growth of commodity agribusiness in Kerinci Regency. Based on the results of the study, it was found that: the leading agribusiness was the superior agricultural commodity of Kerinci Regency in the period of 2012-2016 based on the calculation of Location Quotient (LQ) Analysis are food crops, horticulture plants and seasonal plantations. Based on Klassen Analysis The typology of the structure of the growth of agricultural commodities is divided into four parts. Advanced and fast developing commodities, in Kerinci Regency are annual and other food crops and horticulture plants. Advanced but depressed commodities consist of annual horticultural crops sub-sector commodities and seasonal plantations. Rapidly developing commodities consist of commodity livestock, forestry and logging sub-sectors. Relatively lagging commodities consist of agricultural services sub-sector and hunting

Identifying the factors that influence competitiveness is imperative in order, to appreciate the position of the firm in relation to its environment and to propose appropriate measures and strategies for increasing competitiveness of agribusiness firms. The study sought to determine the competitiveness of the agribusiness sector in Swaziland and to identify the factors affecting competitiveness. Porter’s (1998) theory of the determinants of competitive advantage was applied in the analysis. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The results indicated that the top 3 constraining factors to competitiveness were: the unavailability of professional labour (mean = 1.63); high cost of supplies/inputs (mean = 1.69); incompetence of public sector personnel (mean = 1.69); ineffective public sector personnel (mean = 1.88) and the size of the local market (mean = 1.88). The enhancing factors to competitiveness were: production of affordable high quality products (mean = 4.19); availability of water for industrial purposes (mean = 4.00) and affordable cost of unskilled labour (mean = 3.94). The results further indicate that the agribusiness sector is constrained, suggesting that the environment is not enabling for agribusinesses to be competitive. It is recommended that other markets be explored in order to expand the export base, which could be carried out through product diversification.

This paper is about the ProSAVANA Programme, a trilateral cooperation project between Japan, Brazil and, Mozambique. ProSAVANA Programme goal is to develop the agriculture sector in the Nacala Corridor and it has been controversial due to conflicts among government, private corporations, and civil society organizations. Private investments were expected to occur in the Nacala Corridor, mainly from Brazilian agribusiness, however, Brazilian private investments in Mozambique’s agriculture sector have been in a stagnant state in the period 2007-2017.The paper examines the status of the ProSAVANA Programme and what are the difficulties to Brazilian agribusiness invest to Mozambique. Current challenges of the programme were found as follows: (1) high risk of investment due to non-existent public subsidies to small, medium and large-scale agribusiness; (2) “land property” law bureaucracy; and (3) civil society mobilization against ProSAVANA. This paper aims for several research objectives. It aims to find out the agribusiness sectors developed by Al-Mawaddah Entrepreneurial Pesantren. It also aims to find out the empowerment of agribusiness developed by this pesantren. Last, it also aims to determine the impact of empowering agribusiness developed on improving the economy Al-Mawaddah Entrepreneurial Pesantren’s alumni. This research is a field research. The approach used by researcher is a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study strategy. Research location is at Pesantren Entrepreneur Al-Mawaddah Honggosoco Kudus RT. 06/ RW. 01, Jekulo District, Kudus Regency. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative. The results show that: (1) the agribusiness sector that was developed at Al-Mawaddah Entrepreneurial Pesantren touched only agriculture and educational sectors. It yet touches other agribusiness sectors, such as fisheries or livestock. The agricultural sector developed includes: agricultural food crops, such as: rice, corn, soybeans, vegetables, and cassava, fruit crops, such as: longan, and dragon fruit. They even plant within the premise sugar cane plantation; (2) Agribusiness Empowerment developed by Al-Mawaddah Entrepreneurial Pesantren consists of three stages, namely: input, process, and output; (3) Agribusiness entrepreneurship is better than working under other people (companies) because apart from freedom, the income generated is also higher.

This paper argues that a strong agriculture sector is needed by the economy to rapidly grow. However, it is not sufficient. A strong agriculture sector can sustainably support the economic growth only if there are economic sectors that sufficiently demand commodities produced by the sector. The result of an analysis of Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) shows that agribusiness, or more specifically small and medium scale agriculture based industries, is the key for enhancing the performance of the economy. Agribusiness can also considerably improve the income of poor rural people and significantly create employment. Therefore, it would result in a better income distribution.

Agribusiness is seen as a driver of social and economic health. Indeed, analysing the entrepreneurial phenomena in the context of agribusiness sector would be appropriate, as entrepreneurial orientation would provide an instrument to be competitive in the market and foster their performance. Face to face interviews were conducted with 44 representatives of 3 key actors in the of entrepreneurial value formation process of agribusiness sector in Albania. Study results show that collaborativeness among industry-government-academia is essential for the sustainability and prosperity of agribusiness sector. The research proposes collaborativeness as a dimension of the entrepreneurial orientation construct.

Agribusiness has made many important contributions to the Turkish economy. These conributions related to meeting of the nation’s food demand, creating added value, increasing and diversifying exports and increasing employment. While the relative importance of the Turkish agriculture sector decreases over the years, in the economy, agribusiness still preserves its place and developments. This paper assesses the contribution of agribusiness to the economy during the period 1994−2004, in terms of production and export values and the firms working in this area. Within the agribusiness, the most stable and best-developed industries were food and textile in the period concerned. Changes in the economy influences agribusiness but the basic problem that affects it is development is the integration with the agricultural sector. That is the downstream relations, which is not the desired level at all.

AbstractDuring the global commodities boom Indonesia, like many resource-rich countries, introduced an increasing number of nationalist policy interventions. However, the state has intervened assertively in some sectors and only passively in others. In Indonesia's mining sector, interventions that compel foreign divestment received widespread support from politicians and domestic industry; yet similar proposals to limit foreign investment in the strategic agribusiness sector have largely failed. This article brings the literature on resource nationalism into conversation with studies of business–state relations, in order to understand why nationalist mobilization met with more success in Indonesia's mining sector than in agribusiness. It argues that ownership structures constitute the source of this variation. Uniquely integrated patterns of domestic and foreign ownership in the strategic palm oil sub-sector constrained lawmakers’ nationalist agenda. Such constraints were less formidable in Indonesia's mining sector, where foreign capital is more easily differentiated, and concentrated in a sub-sector that contributes less overall to the Indonesian economy.

Blockchain is a technology that can be applied in different sectors to solve various problems. As a complex system, agribusiness presents many possibilities to take advantage of blockchain technology. The main goal of this paper is to identify the purposes for which blockchain has been applied in the agribusiness sector, for which a PRISMA-based systematic review was carried out. The scientific literature corpus was accessed and selected from Elsevier’s Scopus and ISI of Knowledge’s Web of Science (WoS) platforms, using the PRISMA protocol procedures. Seventy-one articles were selected for analysis. Blockchain application in agribusiness is a novel topic, with the first publication dating from 2016. The technological development prevails more than blockchain applications since it has been addressed mainly in the Computer Sciences and Engineering. Blockchain applications for agribusiness management of financial, energy, logistical, environmental, agricultural, livestock, and industrial purposes have been reported in the literature. The findings suggest that blockchain brings many benefits when used in agribusiness supply chains. We concluded that the research on blockchain applications in agribusiness is only at an early stage, as many prototypes are being developed and tested in the laboratory. In the near future, blockchain will be increasingly applied across all economic sectors, including agribusiness, promoting greater reliability and agility in information with a reduced cost. Several gaps for future studies were observed, with significant value for science, industry, and society.

Abstract Financial Fragility and Macroeconomic shocks make poultry agribusiness vulnerable to risk (unsteady profit). This tends to dampen investment drive and inhabits aggregate growth in the poultry sub-sector in Nigeria. To address this problem, time series data of 6 years (2004-2009) were collected from 200 randomly selected poultry farms. Multiple regression and t-test were used to analyse the collected data. T-test of return on investment shows that poultry agribusiness has low financial fragility and could be resilient enough to withstand macro-economic shocks. Co-integration results indicate that poultry agribusiness risks moves together with inflation rate, interest rates and real exchange rate. According to the results of vector autoregressive (VAR) test, it is shown that poultry agri-business risk is sensitive to macroeconomic shocks. But with sound financial structure, poultry agribusiness will be able to withstand financial fragility. The impacts-response analysis shows that increase in macroeconomic distortions leads to increase in poultry agribusiness risk in Nigeria. The results of study provided information on how macro economic shocks and fragile financial structure can trigger risk in poultry agribusiness sector. This information is very crucial to effective policy making and economic planning that will bring development to the poultry sector and the Nigerian economy. Factor analysis confirmed that inflation rate (0.0039) and interest rates (0.1218) are the significant distortion factors (P < 0.01) that exert more impact on poultry agribusiness risk. Regulated interest and inflation rates would stabilize earnings and lead to growth in poultry agribusiness in Nigeria.

The marine fishery production of Penajam Paser Utara was 6,045 tons per year of 2018 which was close to the national production number. In addition, fishery is a leading sector after agriculture in PPU which will be developed, the fisheries sector should be able to contribute to a large GDP as well, but this was not in line because seeing the contribution of the fisheries sector to GRDP, constant prices from 2012 to 2016 have decreased by 12,760.03 million rupiah. The purpose of this research is to determine the driving factors and inhibiting factors for the development of fisheries capture agribusiness. This was certainly supported by the direction of Spatial Plans of Penajam Paser Utara Regency in 2011-2031, namely realizing the Regency as the center of agribusiness. The methods used in this research were content analysis to identify driving and inhibiting factors of fisheriescatching agribusiness. The results obtained were as many as 21 variables were the driving factors for agribusiness development and 1 additional variable as an inhibiting factor namely the quality of the Fish Auction Place or TPI. In a revised definition of the Davis-Goldberg concept of agribusiness, Sonka and Hudson suggest that the food and agribusiness sector might be thought of as a sequence of interrelated subsectors made up of: (1) genetics and seedstock firms, (2) input suppliers, (3) agricultural producers, (4) merchandisers or first handlers, (5) processors, (6) retailers, and (7) consumers. In applying this ubiquitous definition to global data, Goldberg (1991a) estimates that the food and agribusiness system is the largest economic sector in the world economy representing 50 percent of the global labor force, 50 percent of global assets, and 50 percent of global consumer expenditures.

Financialization of economy is taking place. It seems that along with the progressing rate of information flow, emergence of new financial instruments and searching for new forms of creating value, this process is irreversible. Financialization is also applicable to the field of agribusiness. The specific traits of the agricultural sector - in particular, one of its production factors, that is, land - have resulted in growing interest of investors in directing uncommitted cash to this sector. A typical trait of financialization of agribusiness is purchase of land, which allows for reduction of investment risk, at the same time offering security against inflation. Research shows that financialization in agribusiness results not only from commitment.

Under the traditional classification into primary, secondary and tertiary sectors, the value of Agriculture Gross Domestic Product – GDP – is underestimated since upstream and downstream relations are not computed in this statistic. In order to solve this problem, several recent studies, using the concept of Agribusiness, a term coined by Davis and Goldberg in 1957, and representing the sum of all activities related to agriculture, have sought to estimate the value of agricultural GDP considering this activity as the core of a much larger economic system and called Agribusiness and Agro-industrial Complex (CAI). In this work, we attempted to quantify the GDP of the sugar and alcohol sector both for the Northeast and for Brazil, and the participation of the region in GDP composition of this sector in Brazil. The results show that the GDP of this sector accounts for 9.21% of regional GDP. In Brazil, this share is 6.91%. The industry in the Northeast account for 15.57% of the national GDP of activity.

Agribusiness is both a complex social process and a market structure, consisting of many independent economic entities that generate demand for labour in the sector. The role of people whose activity is directly or indirectly related to the production of food products, the acquisition of resources, and the processing and production of ready food was considered. The way gender affects people’s decision to work in this sector and university graduates’ perception of agribusiness being an ideal job were also analysed. A total of 485 students, from four fields of study, from the Poznań University of Life Sciences were surveyed between 2016 and 2019. In the case of undergraduate students, it was determined that while they perceive that working in agribusiness is an interesting career stage, they are also convinced that they could easily find a job outside of this sector. Additionally, from a gender perspective, men and women view working in agribusiness differently. Women see it as an opportunity for self-development and building good social relations as well as acting for the benefit of the environment. For men, job-related prestige and economic benefits are much more important. Men were found to have higher aspirations for pursuing their own businesses, whereas women were more likely to pursue further education. The attitudes towards working in agribusiness represented by the respondents are a good predictor of meeting its knowledge needs.

Abstract (sommario):

The article seeks to explore major challenges in the agricultural sector development in Ukraine. Using multifactor statistical analysis of the key drivers of agribusiness operation and performance, based on a matrix of 25 selected agribusiness development indicators for enterprises specialized in crop raising and 16 selected development indicators for livestock enterprises, similar developmental trends across Ukrainian regions have been revealed. According to the results of the analysis, certain taxonomic groups (clusters) were identified that allowed to display similar regional conditions within each group along with specifying regions with crop and livestock farming within one cluster, represented by Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions. For further research, agribusinesses were selected out of the above regions and their competitive positions were analyzed. A fuzzy-set method was used to identify the impact of sustainable development, in particular the level of economic, social and environmental sustainability of regions on the competitive position of agribusinesses. The input parameters are represented by economic, environmental and social sustainability indices, each of them is assigned specific characteristics and classified. In addition, using variance analysis, key reference indicators were calculated and the boundaries were set. The output data are determined by the level of agribusiness competitiveness in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Rivne regions (selected by the results of cluster analysis). According to the calculations results, linguistic evaluation was performed, based on variance analysis of terms. Modeling of the surface of the forecast values was carried out which revealed that the above the average level of agribusiness competitiveness is accompanied by a high level of economic sustainability, average level of environmental sustainability and the below average social stability level.

Abstract (sommario):

The article presents the role of small agribusiness in the development of the agricultural sector of the Russian economy in the post-pandemic reality, on the basis of forecast calculations and assessment of current trends in the development of the domestic agricultural sector, the effectiveness of which depends on ensuring sustainable rural development, preserving the historical appearance and territorial integrity of the country. The article examines the impact factors of Covid 19 that determine the development of Russian agriculture in the medium term and proves the need for the development of a large-scale agricultural sector of the economy. The calculation and analytical tools of the study are based on the methods of economic statistics, which allowed us to analyze the structural dynamics of the country's agricultural sector and determine the forecast parameters for the development of small agribusiness. The main forecast volumes of production by small agribusiness in rural areas of such types of food as grain, sunflower, meat and milk for the period up to 2025 are determined. Examples of adaptation of the agricultural sector to the conditions of post-pandemic reality abroad are given.

This paper explores the e-readiness of firms in the Australian horticulture supply chain. The paper draws from the perceived e-readiness model (PERM) and relies on data collected from a survey of firms in the horticulture sector in Australia. The results indicate that while horticulture firms demonstrate relative organizational preparation for the conduct of e-business, the value network within which they operate does not appear to encourage and support their endeavour. In particular, government and industry associations do not appear to play supportive roles in encouraging the use of e-business among members of the horticulture supply chain. This paper highlights factors that are likely to facilitate or inhibit e-business in agribusiness, an area lacking in research globally. Practitioners such as governments, horticulture associations, growers and growers’ associations, and digital marketplace operators, through understanding the e-readiness factors affecting e-business, can make effective decisions to develop their support, capabilities and offerings respectively.

This study applied farming analysis and Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM). The result of the study show that agribusiness of corn and mangoare profitable and there are not any diseconomies resulted from those agribusiness activites.Therefore, agribusiness of those commodities can be developed further.

The core neoliberal strategy of Chilean agrarian politics has lasted now for more than 30 years. Despite minor reforms, its fundamental pillars remain in place. While members of the agribusiness sector consider this strategy to be a role-model for food production leading to explosive economic growth, the last decade exposed its socio-ecological limits, such as declining water availability and increased conflicts over land. Taking critical literature on neoliberalization as a theoretical approach, we used law and literature reviews as well as qualitative interviews with actors from the public and private sectors to reveal the details of the strategies in the exporting agriculture sector in Chile. From the understanding of neoliberalization as a multi-layered process, we analyzed the data, focusing on three dimensions of agribusiness in Chile: (a) regulation, (b) spatial fix, and (c) ideological paradigms. In doing so, we uncovered how far the coping strategies chosen by the state and private sector have re-designed and strengthened the process of agriculture neoliberalization in order to push its own socio-ecological limits.

The labour market is differentiated by age and the individual’s position in it is determined by age. Effective use of all workers’ potential should therefore be a key human resource management strategy for all businesses regardless of the sector. One of the measures is taking into consideration the workers’ age in agribusiness, i. e. applying age management. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the application of age management and to identify and evaluate its benefits for farming enterprises. The data was obtained by quantitative research at selected agribusinesses in the Czech Republic (n = 259). The research has shown that 25.1 % of the respondents applies age management and its application is influenced by the company size and the number of 50 + employees. Of this 41.5 % of agribusinesses spend 2–5 % of their costs on applying age management. The research has also identified two factors (stabilization and quality of processes) categorizing the benefits resulting from age management. It can therefore be summarised that age management is an opportunity how to effectively utilize human potential of all ages and to maintain and improve company’s performance with respect to future demographic trends.

In the last decade, the character of agro-food chains functioning has changed significantly. Globalisation elements in the food processing and distribution are changing conditions in agro-food sector and influencing also agrarian markets. Due to higher food finalisation and market force of processing and distribution stages in the agribusiness commodity vertical, farm value share in the final food price has decreased. Increasing competition makes agribusiness firms  look for possibilities to strengthen their competitiveness, which is increasingly determined by the ability to develop successful partnerships within commodity verticals, i.e. vertical integration, eventually co-ordination, enforces. In this study, potential benefits and risks of these forms of vertical interconnection are reviewed with respect on specific market and production characteristics of agro-food chains. The problem is presented on the example of the commodity chain of bakery and pasta production in the Czech Republic. At the end of the paper, main arguments for the interconnection of particular stages of this vertical are derived, especially between mills and bakeries.

AbstractThe agricultural competitiveness of the market depends to a large extent on the sustainable development activities that can lead to the improvement of the knowledge and professional competence of all the stakeholders from agribusiness and the Romanian agricultural sector is in an excellent position to help achieve the objectives of a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy which will allow an increased social cohesion, working together will also ensure the protection of the natural environment. Agriculture and the concept of sustainable development have received special attention due to their importance in the development of humanity as well as the impact of the phenomenon of globalization on its. Currently, there are numerous scientific studies, digital platforms for monitoring specific indicators in countries, as well as strategies and objectives at community and global level on these two-priority domains, all these inputs contributing to their improvement and innovation. Starting from the question whether the Romanian agribusiness contributes to the sustainable development of the agricultural sector, in order to carry out this research, within the methodology economic modelling was used, starting from the current situation of the Romanian agribusiness where official data and statistics were presented and analysed, as well as potential values of the main indicators needed for the transition of agriculture towards a sustainable development. The paper demonstrates that for the sustainability of the agriculture sector, an integrated approach is needed which consists in applying ecological and socio-economic concepts in the management and strategies of agribusiness. The paper contributes to the creation of a future image achieving sustainability of agriculture where the Romanian agribusiness sector must be managed from a holistic perspective based on a synergy with the elements of sustainable development.

The main objective of the research is to evaluate the development of the food economy (agribusiness) in the European Union countries. The aim of the study was to analyze the productivity of agribusiness work in the European Union countries against the national economy. This was then compared to the level of socio-economic development (measured by GDP per capita) of the individual EU countries, and on this basis, the development of the agri-food sector was assessed. The time series of the study covered 1995 and 2010, ie the years for which the first and the most recent data on “Inputs for balances” are available for individual EU countries. One of the most important methods used to evaluate the development of agribusiness in the European Union was the input-output method. Research has shown that productivity in agribusiness in the EU-12 is still lower than in most EU-15 countries. Differences in productivity levels in agribusiness between countries are mainly influenced by surplus labor in agriculture. Increasing labor productivity in agriculture contributes to a stronger social division of labor in both agriculture and agribusiness, ie the development of modern food sector in line with the model of agricultural development. The question remains, however, whether the new member states will duplicate the path set by the developed Western and Northern European countries, based primarily on a large increase in labor productivity, but will follow a completely different path in food production.

To get the best agriculture inputs and best harvest price is the big question for Indian farmers; thus, we can say that “Agriculture is the foundation of the Indian economy”. With the origin of Mobile Applications (m-apps) for agriculture and a huge dependency on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agribusiness, the scenario in rural India has been changing rapidly. Since India’s economy depends mainly on agriculture, there is a lot of potential for Information and Communication Technology and mobile applications for agribusiness and its marketing. With growing smartphones with m-apps penetration in rural India, the agribusiness in rural belts of India is set for extension and further digitalization to revolutionize the agriculture sector. In recent years, nearly all Indian farmers possess a mobile, and 50%are smartphones with internet connections. With Government's new legislative policy changes as the Digital India programme, mobile applications in India's rural belt cannot remain isolated. Digital India will connect rural Indians farmers worldwide through the internet and mobile applications and provide them with all necessary upliftment in agribusiness in India. This study has focused on the ICT and m-applications used in farming today and how they have changed agribusiness by providing a digital platform and with their impact on agribusiness.

This study examines the level of graduating students' inclination to venture into agribusiness. The study also tries to examine and measure the relationships between knowledge, attitude, social environment, and level of graduating students' inclination to venture into agribusiness. In this study, 158 students of Bachelor of Science Technology and Plantation Management (AT220) at UiTM Cawangan Melaka, Kampus Jasin, Melaka were selected as respondents from the population of Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology. This study used the quantitative method as the best way to address the issue of the new generation's intention towards the agribusiness sector in Malaysia. In the quantitative method, stratified and convenience sampling techniques were employed as a data collection method. The first finding indicated that the students had a high level of inclination to venture into agribusiness. The second findings reported that there were positive significant relationships between knowledge, attitude, social environment, and agribusiness intention. These findings provide insight to the government officials in the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industries to resolve unemployment issues and achieve successful economic growth through the agriculture sector. The results obtained offer several key implications for increasing our understanding of factors related to students’ intention to venture into agribusiness. It may able to overcome the issue of the unemployment rate by creating more job opportunities for the new generations in Malaysia. Thus, universities play an important role in creating young agricultural entrepreneurs which is a crucial issue in this country. Implications and conclusions are also discussed.

The first part of the analysis delves into the value chain concept, with the aim of discovering how the concept has changed from an historical perspective, and what would be an acceptable narrow definition. The second and main part of the analysis seeks to study the methodological techniques for approaching and accurately analyzing a value chain in the agribusiness sector. To such end, we will review the literature for different existing methodologies, in order to understand what steps and dimensions should be considered in a value chain study. Finally, we will identify a set of outlines that are common to all the papers obtained from the literature review to help to determine the approaches or points of view that should be considered for an agribusiness value chain analysis.

The agribusiness sector shows tremendous growth and sustainability prospects by exploiting the challenges of “AgriFood-Tech” business models in the digital environment, by encouraging innovation, accelerating institutional and structural change, enhancing productivity, and introducing new products and services to the market. The purpose of this study is to investigate different types of “AgriFood-Tech” digital models and analyze their role in the agribusiness and AgriFood sector. Based on relevant literature research, the authors present and discuss five indicative examples of “AgriFood-Tech” models, using the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework. The methodology included the analysis of the components of innovative AgriFood innovative business models paradigms, such as distribution channels, key partnerships, customer selection and relationships, financial viability, and value proposition. The goal was to explore their building blocks and the required decisions that create, deliver, and capture value. Our findings highlight the importance of specific features of the models, including online sharing of information between the stakeholders, online searches of agri-products, and logistics services in the agribusiness sector.

Since 1984, the Japan internship program has been implemented to increase the capacity and income of young farmers in Indonesia. The existence of internship activities has changed the mindset and abilities of farmers in their farming organizations, even some of the trainee had changed their agribusiness sector when this program had ended. The purpose of this study was to identify factors that influenced farmers’ decisions in changing their agricultural businesses after the Japaninternship program. This research was conducted in East Java Province, Indonesia from September 2020 to February 2021. The farmers were selected purposively as many as 34 people. Data were analyzed using logit regression analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the factors that significantly influenced farmers’ decisions to change the type of agribusiness sector were the motivation level in the business, business experience, the existence of business license, presence of business brands, and participation in agricultural institutions. The existence of Japaninternshipactivities has changed the mindset of farmers to better manage their businesses. In addition, some farmers have even changed their agribusiness sector to a more profitable business.

Production of high value agriculture and natural products has become a key instrument in economic development programs to accomplish the dual objectives of raising rural incomes and conserving valuable environmental resources. Rapid growth in global demand for organic and natural products has provided a strong economic incentive for small scale aid agencies to expand into this niche market. Through this analysis we investigate the economic impact that aid funded agricultural production has had on rural residents of Zambia and how this development strategy allows small scale aid donors to capitalize on the business and export opportunities in the Central African region. We want to determine what practices, if any, can be applied to other small development organizations working in economically deprived countries. The case for this analysis is Enright Flight Ministries, Inc. (EFM), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with the dual objectives of promoting economic development and evangelism in Zambia. EFM has over 20 years experience in establishing agricultural production programs to support economic development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia. Our focus will be on 5 major EFM agribusiness ventures: African hardwood products, organic honey, aloe vera, bananas, and fisheries. Analysis of the financial statements of EFM will be relied on to provide an accurate view of total investment into the various agricultural projects. Levels of investment will be discussed in light of the current global demand for each particular product. We break down project reports to determine what benefits accrue to both farm and non-farm rural Zambians. This financial analysis will be supplemented with semi-structured interviews performed with EFM administrative staff and aid recipients during the period August - December 2011. Special attention is paid to how aid recipients perceive the program benefits.

Over the past 20 years the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has gained momentum in business practices and strategies. In the agribusiness sector, the need for CSR integration has recently triggered a number of private sector led initiatives that should contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. Consequently we emphasize that for managing innovation processes for sustainability and their institutional context, the food sustainability discourse also needs to investigate the state of the art of CSR in agribusiness. Based on a model to compare and contrast accountability standards we analyse the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI) platform and its principles. We conclude that over the past 5 years agribusiness corporations have become more pro-active in addressing sustainability concerns, and mainstream initiatives start to compete with the traditional niche markets. The SAI was founded by three big players in the food industry, and represents a global initiative among a number of private-sector driven institutional innovations for the sustainability transformation of the mainstream parts of the sector. In order to evaluate and exploit their potential for sustainable development, we advise scholars, policy makers, and managers to not only address questions about legitimacy and stakeholder involvement, but also take strategic objectives into account.

One of the most important global challenges is the eradication of gender inequality, an indicator that is constantly evaluated, and for which the countries of the world have developed public policies aimed at increasing the levels of equity in the population. The present investigation was carried out in the city of Machala, and for which it was proposed as an objective to establish the participation of women and men in agribusiness in the trade sector of agricultural inputs and veterinary services and their characteristics and as hypotheses that in the agribusiness in the sector of agricultural inputs and veterinary services, there is a great gender inequity, which is sought to scale; for its realization was taken the information of the national cadastre of agribusiness registered in Agrocalidad in the sector of agricultural inputs and veterinary services, which are a total of 75, of these, 35 were surveyed to determine the degree of equity and participation of the woman; the variables analyzed were the university academic degree of the local owners, the age and the reason to undertake. The data were analyzed using the chi-square test and using the statistical program SPSS 20. The results obtained demonstrate the low participation of women in this economic sector of the city of Machala.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper examines the role of agribusiness in all its tri-aggregates to the socio-economic development of the rural sector in Nigeria. It acknowledges the importance of agriculture as it employs a majority of the rural population in a predominantly agrarian society like Nigeria. It draws majorly from documentary evidence on agribusiness and agro-industrial linkage and reveals that, the farm, off farm and processing components of agribusiness are capable of generating jobs, provision of income, poverty reduction and infrastructural growth. The paper however identifies poor policy articulations, shortage of working capital, poor infrastructure lack of ideology etc. as major obstacles to effective agribusiness. The paper recommends a robust political will, a sound ideological frame, adequate funds among other measures to develop a strong interface between agricultural policies and politics in achieving a sustainable agribusiness as a veritable tool for rural development in Nigeria.

The purpose of the study is to examine the agribusiness companies’ demand for employee competence and how these competences comply with universities’ curricula. The survey consists of a structured questionnaire that was administered to 427 managers of agribusiness companies in Albania. This research has provided an assessment of the profile of necessary skills required by the agribusiness firms. Results indicate that universities’ curricula do not comply with the set of skills and behaviors that is sought after by employers in this sector. This study examines the gap between universities’ curricula and the businesses’ needs for human resources’ competences.

Horticulture is one of the agriculture sub-sector which is potential to be developed, because it has quite high economic value and added value compared to other commodities. One of horticultural commodity namely potato (Solanum Tuberosum) is a vegetable, which has an important role to fulfill food needs. Potato has potential and good prospect to support food diversification program in order to achieve sustainable food security. Potato commodity is one of the best commodities in Banjarnegara district. The study was aimed to (1) identify factors, that effect the agribusiness development of potato commodity through management resource approach in Banjarnegara district, (2) formulate agribusiness development strategy of potato commodity in Banjarnegara district and (3) determine the priority of alternative strategy for the agribusiness development of potato commodity in Banjarnegara district. Based on prospective analysis that there are 10 factors that effect the agribusiness development of potato commodity in Banjarnegara district. Agribusiness development strategy of potato commodity through management resource approach in Banjarnegara district is based on scenarios that the agribusiness will grow in the future. Based on AHP, the most influential factor in formulating agribusiness development strategy of potato commodity in Banjarnegara district is productivity.Key words: strategy development, agribusiness, potato, prospective analysis, analytical hierarchy process
