La rééducation myofonctionnelle orofaciale (RMOF) a été montrée efficace dans le traitement multidisciplinaire des syndromes d’apnées obstructives du sommeil (SAOS) de l’enfant, de l’adolescent et de l’adulte et elle est prescrite à plusieurs étapes de ces prises en charge. La santé connectée fait appel à l’utilisation de messages électroniques, à une surveillance à distance, à des plateformes de télémédecine du sommeil et à des applications de santé mobile. Les objets connectés aident au diagnostic du SAOS, ils permettent la télésurveillance des patients traités par pression positive continue et facilitent la prise en charge des comorbidités liées au SAOS. La première application conçue pour réaliser une RMOF chez des patients souffrant de SAOS, nommée Airway Gym®, a été conçue par O’Connor-Reina et al. en 2017. Elle permet au patient d’interagir directement avec le smartphone sans avoir besoin d’un autre appareil et elle vise à améliorer la tonicité des différents muscles impliqués dans la pathogenèse du SAOS. Un essai clinique randomisé a évalué les effets de l’application Airway Gym® chez des patients atteints de SAOS sévère, et montré des améliorations significatives de l’IAH, du score de l’échelle de somnolence d’Epworth, de la saturation minimale en O2, du score maximal de la langue IOPI et du score maximal des lèvres IOPI.

Les messages vocaux de WhatsApp n’ont pas les mêmes modalités d’utilisation que les messages écrits de cette application. Dès lors ce travail s’interroge sur les traits distinctifs des messages vocaux et tente de définir s’ils correspondent à un nouveau genre ou à une évolution d’un genre digital préexistant. Pour ce faire, six conversations WhatsApp ont été transcrites et examinées. L’analyse de ces messages met au jour les constantes suivantes : une exacerbation de l’aspect phatique des messages, un sentiment de présence connectée et une place importante accordée à la méta-réflexivité. Ces caractéristiques sont visiblement liées au fait que la communication médiée par les messages vocaux WhatsApp représente un genre hybride entre l’oral et l’écrit.

The data science of networks is a rapidly developing field with myriad applications. In neuroscience, the brain is commonly modeled as a connectome, a network of nodes connected by edges. While there have been thousands of papers on connectomics, the statistics of networks remains limited and poorly understood. Here, we provide an overview from the perspective of statistical network science of the kinds of models, assumptions, problems, and applications that are theoretically and empirically justified for analysis of connectome data. We hope this review spurs further development and application of statistically grounded methods in connectomics.

Connected vehicle (CV) application developers need a development platform to build, test, and debug real-world CV applications, such as safety, mobility, and environmental applications, in edge-centric cyber-physical system (CPS). The objective of this paper is to develop and evaluate a scalable and secure CV application development platform (CVDeP) that enables application developers to build, test, and debug CV applications in real-time while meeting the functional requirements of any CV applications. The efficacy of the CVDeP was evaluated using two types of CV applications (one safety and one mobility application) and they were validated through field experiments at the South Carolina Connected Vehicle Testbed (SC-CVT). The analyses show that the CVDeP satisfies the functional requirements in relation to latency and throughput of the selected CV applications while maintaining the scalability and security of the platform and applications.

To build on a project recently completed for the Oregon Department of Transportation (DOT), processes and tools were developed to prioritize the implementation of connected vehicle (CV) applications. Internal mechanisms for addressing CV development and deployment at the Oregon DOT were assessed; the technical maturity of each potential CV application was scanned, reviewed, and assessed; preliminary goals were developed; prospective CV applications were linked; and applications that fit with the potential role of the Oregon DOT in advancing these initiatives were refined, prioritized, and ranked. A shared vision and business plan that prioritizes CV applications for Oregon is recommended. An internal effort aimed at producing a small set of priority CV applications for further development is described. This effort culminated in a CV application prioritization workshop that included a priority mapping exercise, discussion of the CV concept, and an initial mapping of goals and applications. The workshop identified seven near-term priority CV applications for the Oregon DOT; 12 applications that the Oregon DOT will monitor (and possibly collaborate on with others in the future); and eight applications that the Oregon DOT will monitor but that will be led by others. The Oregon DOT has used the results of this effort as a springboard for hiring new staff dedicated to CV policy, forming a CV steering team, and launching a CV business plan. The process and tools can be used by other states and transportation agencies in their CV application prioritization processes.

Problems that should be resolved by marketer when a new mobile application is put on sale can be divided into two groups. The 1-st one is connected with customer attraction, the 2-nd one – with his/her retaining. On the one hand, resolving these problems is directly connected with advertizing campaign and marketing research, however the majority of companies – developers of mobile applications have no financial possibilities for marketing accompaniment of application entering market. The article studies research, which can be done by own forces. With adequate analysis they can lead to high-quality results and increase in the number of users. Apart from that the author proposes the method of analyzing event arrangement in application software section, which can help keep an eye on user’s steps and interpret them to find key problems of the application. This method of event arrangement is not new for developers and it is offered by existing analytical platforms, however interpretation of obtained results and subsequent company steps can become a serious task. Further development of such methodology based on analytics, segmentation and reviews of users could resolve a problem of developing by companies-developers of mobile applications their own marketing strategy verified in practice.

The article examines the market for connected objects, which is gradually taking its place in the global economy. Autonomous cars, smartphones, video surveillance, connected objects are already present in our daily lives. However, it is in industry that the Internet of Things has developed the most. The Internet of Things, or IoT, is a concept defining the extension of the Internet to physical objects. This includes not only the connected objects, but also the sensors, software and network through which these objects operate. All connected objects are powered by software, which collects data - that are then processed in the cloud. They are, therefore, programmed and programmable objects that can interact via a WiFi, Bluetooth or 4G connection. Connected objects can be found in two main applications: an industrial application and an everyday application. In the industrial sector, connected objects are very well established in various sectors of activity: automotive, aeronautics, agriculture, health, commerce, public sector, logistics, etc. Everyday applications, known as consumer applications, are struggling to develop despite the announced Eldorado. Even though many connected everyday objects exist (toothbrushes, hoovers, watches, home automation, etc.), the business model is having trouble being set up and connected objects are having trouble proving their usefulness in everyday life. There needs to be consistency and logic in the range of connected products on offer and not just a range of independent products.

A wide-band metamaterial perfect absorber was introduced. The dual arrow shapes and the ground plane were in between the 0.0035λ TLY-3. Lump element technique was applied to enhance the absorption bandwidth, which was connected between both of the arrow structures. The limitation during fabrication process in using lump element, had seriously restricted its practical applications for microwave absorption. Then, a very thin line was connected between both arrow structures to represent the resistance by lump element which was expected to ease the fabrication process and practical applications as well. Four cases were analyzed: double arrow, double arrow with lump connected, double arrow with lump connected and 9 mm air gap, and thin line connected with 6 mm air gap. The fourth case achieved the highest operational absorbency frequency, which developed about 7.38 GHz (3.87 GHz to 11.25 GHz) approximately to 7.38 GHz. Three resonant frequencies were achieved; 4.17 GHz, 6.09 GHz and 10.30 GHz with perfect absorbency. These properties are expected to be used in practical applications such as satellite and radar communications transmission. These properties of the metamaterial absorber could increase the functionality of the metamaterial absorber to be used in any application especially in reducing radar cross section for stealth application.

In this work is presented a numerical solution for temperature profile in two-dimensional diffusion inside irregular multi-connected geometry. The special discretization has been done by two variants of the finite Element Method: Galerkin Finite Element Method (GFEM) and Least Squares Finite Element Method (LSFEM). Three applications are presented. The first for a regular double connected domain; the second for a regular multi-connected domain and the third application for an irregular multi-connected domain. In all applications are considered Dirichlet boundary conditions. The results obtained in the present work are compared with results from Ansys® simulations. The results of each method are presented and discussed and the characteristics and advantages of the methods are also discussed.

Aplikasi pembelajaran dapat dibangun untuk memudahkan proses pembelajaran algoritma. Karena prosesnya yang kompleks dan membutuhkan waktu untuk memahami langkah-langkahnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membangun aplikasi pembelajaran algoritma Boundary 4-Connected dalam identifikasi jumlah sel pada citra sel darah merah. Algoritma Boundary 4-connected merupakan metode yang dapat digunakan untuk mengklasifikasikan region atau objek dalam citra digital. The results of this study are that the Boundary 4-Connected algorithm learning application in identifying the number of cells in red blood cell images is suitable for use and can be used as an alternative learning media to understand how the Boundary 4-Connected algorithm works in identifying the number of cells in red blood cell images. The subsea connector for manifolds is working in bad conditions. The water environment is harsh. And the inner pressure of the jumper which is connected by the subsea connector is high. In this paper, a new design of metal gasket for the connector is proposed. The metal gasket develops a surface contact with the upper and lower hubs. Under the effect of internal pressure, the seal ring will expand outward to ensure good seal performance. The design has a simple structure, and is easy to manufacture and disassemble .This paper uses the finite element analysis to investigate the gasket’s performance in different working conditions, and provides reference for real tests and the engineering application.

Major performance and function are defined, including materialization of unit function, hardware platform and instrument development, and development of embedded S/W and mobile application.Findings: Application connected to closing and opening device based on IoT is developed not only to remotely monitor open and shut the door in closet or drawer but also to switch device remotely which controls ion generator and humidity but also to operate alarm device in case of opening door of closet or drawer forcibly.Improvements/Applications: Application as a smart lock for security can be expected in office, closet, and drawers. A practical use of sterilizer to prevent the inside of closet and drawer from going moldy is expected to using as a sterilizer for earrings and accessories.

Recently, smart stents have been developed by integrating various sensors with intravascular stents for detecting vascular restenosis or monitoring intravascular biomedical conditions such as blood pressure or blood flow velocity. The information on biomedical signals is then transmitted to external monitoring systems via wireless communications. Due to the limited volumes of blood vessels and limited influence of blood flow, antennas with good radiation performance are required for intravascular applications. In this paper, we propose a stent antenna composed of multiple rings containing crowns and struts, where each ring is connected with one connector. Unlike a conventional stent, wherein each ring is connected with several connectors, the single connector prevents the random distribution of electrical current and thus achieves good radiation performance. The implantable stent antenna is designed for the frequency range of 2 to 3 GHz for minimum penetration loss in the human body and tissues. Mechanical FEM simulations were conducted to ensure that the mechanical deformation was within specific limits during balloon expansions. A prototype was fabricated with laser cutting techniques and its radiation performance experimentally characterized. It was demonstrated that the fabricated stent antenna had an omnidirectional radiation pattern for arbitrary receiving angles, a gain of 1.38 dBi, and a radiation efficiency of 74.5% at a resonant frequency of 2.07 GHz. The main contribution of this work was the manipulation of the current distributions of the stent for good EM radiation performances which needed to be further examined while inserted inside human bodies. These research results should contribute to the further development of implantable wireless communications and intravascular monitoring of biomedical signals such as blood pressure and blood flow velocity.

In recent years, the furniture design trends include ensuring ergonomic standards, development of new environmentally friendly materials, optimised use of natural resources, and sustainably increased conversion of waste into value-added products. The circular economy principles require the reuse, recycling or upcycling of materials. The potential of reusing waste corrugated cardboard to produce new lightweight boards suitable for furniture and interior applications was investigated in this work. Two types of multi-layered panels were manufactured in the laboratory from corrugated cardboard and beech veneer, bonded with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin. Seven types of end corner joints of the created lightweight furniture panels and three conventional honeycomb panels were tested. Bending moments and stiffness coefficients in the compression test were evaluated. The bending strength values of the joints made of waste cardboard and beech veneer exhibited the required strength for application in furniture constructions or as interior elements. The joints made of multi-layer panels with a thickness of 51 mm, joined by dowels, demonstrated the highest bending strength and stiffness values (33.22 N∙m). The joints made of 21 mm thick multi-layer panels and connected with Confirmat had satisfactory bending strength values (10.53 N∙m) and Minifix had the lowest strength values (6.15 N∙m). The highest stiffness values (327 N∙m/rad) were determined for the 50 mm thick cardboard honeycomb panels connected by plastic corner connector and special screw Varianta, and the lowest values for the joints made of 21 mm thick multi-layer panels connected by Confirmat (40 N∙m/rad) and Minifix (43 N∙m/rad), respectively. The application of waste corrugated cardboard as a structural material for furniture and interiors can be improved by further investigations.

In this paper, secure connectors are applied to design the software architectures of electronic commerce and automated teller machine applications.

The connected vehicle (CV) system promises unprecedented safety, mobility, environmental, economic, and social benefits, which can be unlocked using the enormous amount of data shared between vehicles and infrastructure (e.g., traffic signals, centers). Real-world CV deployments, including pilot deployments, help solve technical issues and observe potential benefits, both of which support the broader adoption of the CV system. This study focused on the Clemson University Connected Vehicle Testbed (CU-CVT) with the goal of sharing the lessons learned from the CU-CVT deployment. The motivation of this study was to enhance early CV deployments with the objective of depicting the lessons learned from the CU-CVT testbed, which includes unique features to support multiple CV applications running simultaneously. The lessons learned in the CU-CVT testbed are described at three different levels: (i) the development of system architecture and prototyping in a controlled environment, (ii) the deployment of the CU-CVT testbed, and (iii) the validation of the CV application experiments in the CU-CVT. Field experiments with CV applications validated the functionalities needed for running multiple diverse CV applications simultaneously using heterogeneous wireless networking, and meeting real-time and non-real-time application requirements. The unique deployment experiences, related to heterogeneous wireless networks, real-time data aggregation, data dissemination and processing using a broker system, and data archiving with big data management tools, gained from the CU-CVT testbed, could be used to advance CV research and guide public and private agencies for the deployment of CVs in the real world.

This research shows 80% of respondents agree or strongly agree that the gadget will affect to the development of children social skill. Therefore, in this research, the framework for ethical assessment is introduced and it can be applied to digital technology included gadget and its application in order to mitigate the negative effect of digital technology and gadgets.

Nowadays, cell phones or mobile phones have become a multipurpose tool. The developers of mobile phone/smartphone have added an assortment of features and applications that are very useful for the users. Nokia provides the opportunity for application developers by providing developers such as Qt SDK. Application developers can use Qt SDK to design and create applications that can run on mobile phones based on Symbian. In this research Qt SDK was used to create applications for monitoring a room using a camera and display it on a Symbian-based smartphone. Research also used webcam7 software to monitor the camera and display it on PC screen. The Symbian used was Nokia E71. The camera used webcam M-Tech camera connected to the PC via USB cable, and internal webcam. Virtual routers were used to make the laptop into an access point. Virtual routers created using the netsh command was typed at the command prompt laptop. Symbian smartphone was connected to the wifi on the laptop. By accessing the IP of the laptop, display on a webcam has successfully been seen through a symbian smartphone monitoring application created using Qt SDK.

Building an artificial synaptic device with multiple presynaptic inputs will be a significant step toward realization of sophisticated brain-inspired platforms for neuromorphic computing. However, an artificial synapse that can mimic functions of multiple synapses in a single device has not yet been well developed with existing electronic devices. Here, we experimentally implement the functions of multiple synapses in a single artificial synaptic device consisting of multiple connected nanogap electrodes. The “activation” technique, which is based on electromigration of metal atoms induced by a field emission current, was applied to the device to emulate the synaptic functions. We show that the device, upon application of activation, exhibits conductance changes in response to stimulation voltage, similar to the memory states of biological synapses. Several important synaptic responses—notably, short-term plasticity and long-term plasticity—were successfully demonstrated in multiple connected Au-nanogaps. For further application, a simple network was implemented using multi-input devices based on a two-terminal Au nanogap array, exhibiting the ability to classify the digital input vector pattern. These demonstrations pave the way for brain-inspired computing applications such as associative memory, pattern classification, and image recognition.

The global energy mix is currently facing a major transformation, with the non-renewability of traditional fossil energy sources such as coal, oil and natural gas and environmental pollution becoming increasingly prominent. This paper presents an in-depth comparison between different grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverters, focusing on the performance, cost-effectiveness, and applicability of these two inverter technologies in PV grid-connected applications. These inverters are highly adaptable to dynamic grid conditions and provide significant harmonic suppression, but the relatively high initial cost is their major drawback. The study also explores optimization methods for filtering techniques, as well as future directions for inverter technology, including the application of smart materials, advanced control algorithms and new semiconductor materials. It is found that LCL-type inverters and three-phase inverters with active power filter have their own advantages, and the selection should be based on specific application needs, cost budget and power quality requirements. In the future, with the continuous progress of technology, we expect that the inverter technology can realize higher efficiency and better power quality to meet the increasing demand for grid-connected PV system.

Herein, it is going to focus on one application which is utilizing organotin complexes as photo-stabilizers of polyvinyl chloride. Since organotin(IV) can easily obtained by oxidizing organotin(II) that is more stable. Organotin(IV) can be designed in different forms depending on the number of organic and anion groups connected to the tin such as mono-organotin, di-, tri-and tetra-compounds. There are several applications of organotin materials in both industrial and medicine areas and in this paper, we are going to study some of a significant photo-stabilizers and their applications and we are going to highlight the using of organotin materials as photo-stabilizers of plastic polymers especially the PVC polymeric films

Straw–concrete combined floor slabs consist of straw boards, shear-resistant connectors, and concrete slabs. These slabs offer various advantages over traditional reinforced concrete slabs due to the straw boards’ properties of excellent insulation and sound absorption. Research using ABAQUS software created 15 composite floor models to study the impact of connection methods, bond strength, connector spacing, and thickness of straw and concrete on the flexural performance. Results indicated that the composite floor slab with adhesive bonding had a 7.34% and 17.34% higher load-carrying capacity than the bolt-connected and self-tapping screw-connected composite floor slabs, respectively. Increasing bond strength from 40 MPa to 60 MPa improved the load-carrying capacity of self-tapping nail-connected slabs by 80.84%. Connector spacing negatively correlated with slab capacity, while increasing the thickness of straw boards or concrete slabs enhanced the ultimate load-carrying capacity, with the latter having a more significant effect. Midspan deflection and flexural capacity were calculated using the converted cross-section method and static calculation formulas, with theoretical and simulated values showing good agreement, offering guidance for engineering applications.

Thanks to the location close to the Equator line, Colombia offers an advantage location for solar applications. This is the case of Neiva, a city located in the south of Colombia where the average temperature and irradiance are 31 °C and 4 kW/m2 respectively. This paper describes the development of an investment payback solar calculator (PSC) software for residential and commercial PV solar applications in Neiva. The PSC uses both the average solar energy and the electricity prices to estimate the rate of return on investment, the payback period (PBP), the net present value (NPV) as well as the environmental impact. The PCS software is then evaluated using a historical and statistical information from NASA, adjusted with the results of a small scale 1 kW grid connected PV system production. The results show that the PCS software can satisfactorily indicate the PV system size and perform an economic evaluation of the system to be implemented. The results obtained using the application developed were compared to two commercially available software Sunny Design and HOMER. The NPV and the PBP values showed that the proposed application results are like those delivered by the commercial software. Furthermore, the economic evaluation given by the developed tool uses additional information which makes it more accurate in countries where socioeconomic stratum is presented.

The purpose of this work is to research information systems for automated services of small businesses based on the use of mobile software applications to enhance their efficiency and competitiveness. Enhancing efficiency and competitiveness is a primary trend in the development of small businesses in modern business ecosystems. In the face of increasing competition and rapid changes in business ecosystems, companies are improving their processes using new technologies and strategies that open up new opportunities for growth and development, as well as ensure their resilience in business ecosystems. The automation of services for small businesses is a development direction that contributes to increasing their efficiency and competitiveness. This work investigates information systems for automated services of small businesses based on the use of mobile software applications, using service sector companies as an example. Based on the analysis of existing mobile applications for service-oriented businesses, a mobile application of an automated system «Digital Device Repair» has been developed using Microsoft Visual Studio tools. The developed configuration consists of three functional subsystems, implementing multi-level access rights to functional components and ensuring optimized handling of customer orders. A three-tier architecture is chosen for the development of the mobile application software system, which includes components: a client application connected to an application server, which is in turn connected to a database server. A functional model of an information system for automated services for small businesses has been developed using the example of the mobile application «Digital Device Repair».

This article presents evaluation results of connected vehicles and their applications. Vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication (V2I) can enable a new paradigm of vehicle applications. The connected vehicle applications could significantly improve vehicle safety, mobility, energy savings, and productivity by utilizing real-time vehicle and traffic information. In the foreseeable future, connected vehicles need to operate alongside unconnected vehicles. This makes the evaluation of connected vehicles and their applications challenging. The hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testbed can be used as a tool to evaluate the connected vehicle applications in a safe, efficient, and economic fashion. The HIL testbed integrates a traffic simulation network with a powertrain research platform in real time. Any target vehicle in the traffic network can be selected so that the powertrain research platform will be operated as if it is propelling the target vehicle. The HIL testbed can also be connected to a living laboratory where actual on-road vehicles can interact with the powertrain research platform.

Ann Arbor Connected Vehicle Test Environment (AACVTE) is the world’s largest operational, real-world deployment of connected vehicles (CVs) and connected infrastructure, with over 2,500 vehicles and 74 infrastructure sites, including intersections, midblocks, and highway ramps. The AACVTE generates a massive amount of data on a scale not seen in the traditional transportation systems, which provides a unique opportunity for developing a wide range of connected vehicle (CV) applications. This paper introduces a data infrastructure that processes the CV data and provides interfaces to support real-time or near real-time CV applications. There are three major components of the data infrastructure: data receiving, data pre-processing, and visualization including the performance measurements generation. The data processing algorithms include signal phasing and timing (SPaT) data compression, lane phase mapping identification, trajectory data map matching, and global positioning system (GPS) coordinates conversion. Simple performance measures are derived from the processed data, including the time–space diagram, vehicle delay, and observed queue length. Finally, a web-based interface is designed to visualize the data. A list of potential CV applications including traffic state estimation, traffic control, and safety, which can be built on this connected data infrastructure is discussed.

Abstract Textile signal lines are some of the more significant parts of an electronic system incorporated in modern smart garments. These applications often need to make lines that are disconnectable. The article presents the construction of two textile connectors that can connect direct current textile electro-conductive lines. These connectors are mostly made of textile materials and are an alternative to conventional connectors or connectors using snap fasteners. The article presents basic research on the electrical properties of the connectors proposed. The present research examined the influence of the size and shape of the connector contacts on their resistance, measured after each disconnection and reconnection of both parts of the connectors. The article also presents research on the dependence of the electrical resistance of the connectors on the pressure force of their textile contacts. The test results presented, and their statistical analysis confirmed the suitability of the connectors presented for applications in e-textiles.

To support all phases of an agile modular manufacturing machine life cycle with CAE and Virtual Manufacturing tools, a number of different engineering applications (e.g. specialist software based tools) are typically used for design, simulation, analysis, programming, control and monitoring of a machine. These applications mainly exist today as small applications islands where each of them manages their own data. When a manufacturing machine is designed, simulated, programmed, analyzed, tested, or operated, the information, connected to that specific machine, used and generated by each application island is stored separately by each application. These application islands often use different storage technologies. Each one of the applications has an information structure to separate the information connected to each machine; however, they do not necessarily use the same information structure. Another issue concerning these applications is the functionality that is implemented in them to manage information; namely, processes such as store, retrieve, search, permissions, etc. The functionality for one process is the same in all applications that has the process implemented. But the implementation of the process functionality may differ, due to misinterpretation of the functionality specification and regular implementation bugs, which could lead to problem with integrity and consistency of the data. Applications that make use of newer information technologies, such as databases and software development tools can simplify the implementation of the functionality but each application still has to implement their own version of the functionality. This paper presents a research investigation focused on the development of a distributed integration platform that supports the whole life cycle of agile modular machine systems, which includes the design, simulation, programming, analysis, machine operation and re-configuration. The environment supports distributed management and storage of information in a system-wide library, information management and storage that is machine oriented, not application oriented, and information storage structured as reusable components to enable reuse of information and know-how that is produced throughout the life cycle of machines.
