Abstract (sommario):
This article publishes a metal mirror found in the southwestern Crimea. Similar to a significant part of the finds of this category, the mirror under study finds no context or monument to be reliably associated with. This circumstance, however, does not diminish the value of the artefact, since the find is distinguished by high artistic performance and a number of authentic features allowing the one to determine its chronology and cultural and historical period. The mirror under analysis is a figured “disk” with an eight-petal festooned edge, the front side of which is smoothly polished. On th

Abstract (sommario):
During the Early-Middle Bronze Age, a new package of technological knowledge, including high-fired ‘proto-porcelain’ products and specialized ‘dragon’ kilns, entered Lingnan in South China from neighbouring cultures. This enabled the first local production of proto-porcelain in Bronze Age communities of Guangdong province that later became concentrated in ceramic workshops in the Dongjiang valley. Through a holistic approach towards ceramic production and consumption that integrates elements of functionalist and social perspectives, this study will explore the technological and socio-political

The art of Far East countries, namely China and Japan, was an important source for the forms and features of Art Nouveau. However, original works were not the only sources of inspiration. Vivid images of mythical animals, such as two impressive forms of Japanese dragons, penetrated the practices of European craftsmen. This article follows the route of a specific form, and examines the nature of its interpretations, using the example of two stone-cut works by Russian Imperial Lapidary Factories (Peterhof and Ekaterinburg ones). In the study I attempt to develop my typology by investigating differences of characteristic features among these designs. This thesis also examine parts of the dragon designs, such as eyes, lips, horns, bodies, and feet. Based on the study of the dragon designs and their connections with the era, I argue that the typology can be a criterion for the issue of period divisions of bronzes.

Long clubbed with the so-called BIMARU group of poor northern, central and eastern states, MP successfully broke ranks to set a scorching pace of growth, which has been unparalleled in the past quarter-century. Understanding the factors that helped to drive this growth and drawing lessons for other states at similar levels of development is the main objective of this chapter. Madhya Pradesh’s agricultural GDP increased at 8.1% per annum during 2005–06 to 2016–17, surpassing even record holder Gujarat’s 6%

The Iguvine tables, by far our most extensive source of information for the Umbrian language, are no less important for the study of religion in ancient Italy, for they consist of an extremely detailed set of liturgical and cultic instructions for a college of priests, the Atiedian Brethren.

The iconography of water emanating from the mouths of mixed elemental figures - dragons found on monuments from the lowland and mountain regions of the ancient Near East reveals a semantic cluster that has its landscape of action (mountains, underworld/heaven, sanctuary), actors (deities, dragons, heroes), description of the act (dragon slayer, ritual, fertility), objects of the action (throne, chariot, statue). The existing parallels show not only the commonality of the water emanation motif, but also other connections that can be observed in the same context, which are the result of active c

However, there are very few craftsmen today who can make Makyoh mirrors. The problem of the diminishing number of craftsmen, which is not confined to creating the Makyoh, has drawn considerable attention. There have been attempts to digitize the skills (or inferred
