Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This study aims to focus on the entrepreneurial education and profile in undergraduate business administration programs in Brazil, particularly in the southern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Assuming that the entrepreneurial profile can be developed by teaching and learning processes. Design/methodology/approach The research performed qualitative approach through interviews and a quantitative approach using multiple criteria decision-making methods. Data were collected along 2015 in a survey with a population of 412 students from three high education institutions (HEIs) and analyzed using the analytic hierarchy process with ratings. Findings The study has found that the key entrepreneurial trait for all groups was the ability to “plan”. Other relevant dimensions were “self-realization”, “innovative” and “leader”. The dimensions “risk taking” and “sociability” were considered not important in the opinion of all groups. Practical implications The entrepreneurial profile does not seem to evolve over the four-year college period, thus suggesting a failure of the entrepreneurial education at the three surveyed HEIs to impact the overall perception of students about the requirements for creating and developing new ventures. Actions to revert this trend should be taken. Originality/value This research aims to identify differences in perception about the entrepreneurial profile among freshmen and senior undergraduates. The theme is relevant in a knowledge era where academy has to prepare students to be entrepreneurs. Similar studies were done around in Brazil and around the world but no one in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The work has a contribution by proposing and applying a method to compare students groups, programs, institutions and countries over time.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract In the last decades, entrepreneurship in all of its complexity, as a basis for sustainable development, has become a major concern for a variety of socio-economic agents: legislative systems, production systems represented by entrepreneurs from all economic sectors, and education and research systems. As a result, numerous fields of studies which aim to develop an entrepreneurial spirit among youth and to prepare students for entrepreneurship have been introduced in the educational curricula starting with high school. One of the missions of the Faculty of Business Administration in foreign languages (FABIZ) from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies is to ensure that students gain the competencies and abilities necessary for being able to open a business and become interested in a career as entrepreneurs. However, discussions with the students from FABIZ showed that only a small percentage of students are planning or have already become entrepreneurs (approximately 5% which, for some researchers such as Fayolle and Filion (2016) is considered an optimal figure). This study aims to explore the degree to which FABIZ students, with a focus on the French section, are entrepreneurs or, at least, are interested to become entrepreneurs in the near future and to analyse their fields of interests, hopes and fears, i.e. their perception of their own career.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose First, this paper aims to study the extent to which students in business administration degrees are aware of the characteristics of the business ecosystem. Second, the degree of knowledge of the benefits resulting from the interaction between the university-based business incubators and the universities are studied. Design/methodology/approach To focus the discussion, a survey is conducted, asking students their preferences as future professionals, as well as their knowledge about specific sources of financing, namely, venture capital and crowdfunding and other networks useful to foster the creation of companies such as business incubators. Findings Results reveal that the students under study mostly prefer to work as employees in a company. Additionally, these results suggest a poor knowledge from students regarding specific aspects related to entrepreneurship and, more specifically, business incubators. These empirical results underline the need to shift the focus of subject programmes towards a greater focus on entrepreneurship. Additionally, the results also draw attention to the need of fostering the relationship between business incubators and universities, so that students become aware of the support that these networks can provide to entrepreneurs in the early stages of business projects. Research limitations/implications The data analysis for this study is built based on a survey of students attending specific finance courses at a Spanish public university. It is worth noting that in this study we have based on the supply side whereby future research might focus on the point of view given by the firm’s recruitment of business administration students. In addition, to strengthen the conclusions drawn from this study, further research should increase the sample period and the outcomes achieved at other universities in different regions. Practical implications In terms of policy implications, the empirical findings highlight the relevance of understanding the effectiveness of entrepreneurship programmes, given the budgetary expenditure involved in entrepreneurship education. Originality/value The relevance of the issue has been highlighted through a literature review of the past 10 years. In terms of policy implications, the empirical findings highlight the relevance of understanding the effectiveness of entrepreneurship programmes, given the budgetary expenditure involved in entrepreneurship education.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT We develop constructs to evaluate the factors influencing the degree of students' acceptance of cases. In our proposed framework, student acceptance is affected by the case selection, intensity of faculty use, training, course type and level, level of instructor expertise, teaching atmosphere, and the faculty's beliefs about the usefulness of the case method. Our sample includes faculty teaching quantitative or qualitative courses across several disciplines in undergraduate business administration. Responses to a survey are analyzed using factor analysis and regression. The quantitative analysis is complemented by interviews with a subset of expert faculty using a two-round modified Delphi technique. This study may be limited by the fact that it measured faculty perceptions of the degree of students' acceptance of cases, rather than student acceptance directly. Future research might survey students or use students' courses evaluations to validate or contradict our results.

Abstract (sommario):
This study presents the results of a descriptive survey mailed to 660 deans at schools of business in the U.S. to develop answers to the following research questions: 1. What integrative instructional methods are graduate business educators using at U.S. universities and colleges? 2. What teaching methods are most effective in fostering students integrative skills and capabilities? 3. What is the level of difficulty for implementing these methodologies? 4. What are the implications for designing faculty reward systems and developing promotion and tenure criteria? Responses were received from 179 deans (27.12% response rate). Findings reveal that other forms of integrating experience are practiced besides the more traditional capstone course. There is a wide spread agreement that inductive teaching methods are more effective in developing integrative skills and attitudes in students. However, these methods are believed to be the most difficult to implement in terms of time and effort. This suggests that adequate incentives must be in place to encourage faculty to adopt these methods. We hope that those schools contemplating revision and pedagogical development of faculty will find the studys findings timely and valuable.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this study was twofold. First, we want to determine which competences are acquired through an internship, as well as the levels of attainment. Secondly, we want to compare the levels of achievement in two different universities, since we are interested in proving whether the university of origin affects the final results. We thus organized competences following the classification made by the Tuning project, which groups them as instrumental, interpersonal and professional. A questionnaire was distributed among the students participating in internships, and the firms offering them in each university, to assess their perceptions of the competences. We used the SPSS statistical package to conduct a set of mean tests to identify differences between the perceptions of the students and firms. Students acquire a higher level of professional competences than instrumental or interpersonal competences. There are also differences according to university, which suggests its importance.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigates the communication and learning needs of Master of Business Administration (MBA) business English students and their perceptions of effective curriculum design. The research instruments are two-stage surveys of 99 MBA students from a public university in China. The results of the study show that English is not extensively used in the workplaces of MBA business English students, and that the majority of them use Chinese. Most English usage occurs in foreign businesses. The most difficult skills for MBA business English learners are found to be oral communication and listening comprehension. However, there are still very strong needs for further improvement in English communication. For the MBA business English courses, oral communication activities, especially with expatriate teachers, are particularly needed. The MBA business English courses should connect with real-world practice and be relevant to job and business needs. This study has significant implications for MBA business English curriculum reform in both Chinese and international contexts.

Abstract (sommario):
Considering the present-day international context, with the increasing workforce mobility and the global exchange of knowledge and best practices, most companies expect their workers to be able to communicate effectively across cultures. Thus, since cross-cultural competence in today’s multicultural globalised world is an absolute prerequisite, we argue that students – as candidates in the global job market – need to acquire not only linguistic skills, but also cross-cultural competence. Consequently, drawing on a number of theories put forward by Melanie Moll (2012), Geert Hofstede (1980, 1991), E.T. Hall (1976), or Paul Verluyten (1999), this paper will look into the cultural frameworks that account for people’s behaviour, with a view to identify the students’ perception of the cultural issues likely to occur in cross-cultural encounters. More precisely, we will explore ways in which we can build and expand the students’ intercultural awareness and cross-cultural communicative competence, with a focus on the students enrolled at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, within the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, Romania.

Abstract (sommario):
Business students' perceptions concerning several academic advising resources are presented. Using a Likert scale, students evaluated resources such as their academic advisor, course instructors, staffs, friends, and parents as well as the university catalog and the Foundations of Business Administration (FBA) course. Selected demographic information was also collected. Results show that students ranked the FBA course, which provides an overview of an individual's 4-year study plan, as the most helpful. The course instructors and academic advisors were ranked second and fourth, respectively. Enrollment status, declared major, and gender were related to students' views on some advising resources, but transfer status was not. Moreover, we found some connection between the effectiveness of advising resources perceived by students and the students' developmental stages. Relative Emphasis: practice, research, theory

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract In this paper, the design and introduction of a framework for multidisciplinary business simulations at the School of Public Administration of Kehl University will be presented. Within Kehl’s Public Administration study program, various subjects like organization, law, human resources, computer sciences, finance, psychology and economics are supported in an interdisciplinary way. Both theoretical and scientific skills as well as soft skills such as teamwork, project management and coordination will be further developed by using an interdisciplinary approach. A framework for multidisciplinary business simulations has been developed to support this interdisciplinary approach. The framework integrates realistic and practical simulations of interdisciplinary case studies into the study program of Public administration at Kehl University. In order to reduce costs for case study development, the framework offers a generic case study pattern. This pattern was purposefully developed and covers very different disciplines in the best possible way so that the students can conduct simulations that are realistic and possible during their studies. Further, two different simulation implementations of the case studies were designed within the framework for multidisciplinary business simulations. A short-term simulation intends to check the ongoing learning success. A long-term simulation aims for giving students feedback concerning their skills just before graduating. The case studies based on the generic case study pattern come from a wide variety of public administration tasks. Examples of currently conceived case studies include e-invoicing, IT-infrastructure for schools and IT-office workplaces. The case studies were developed together with practitioners from municipalities and local agencies in order to create realistic simulations. This addresses the actual complexity of the future working environment of students. The comprehensive application of knowledge learnt in different subjects motivates students to work on these case studies.

Abstract (sommario):

This study is conducted to investigate the application of needs analysis in developing EAP materials for business administration students in two Sudanese universities. The subjects are 2 head departments of English language. To collect data, the researcher uses interview and content analysis. The study adopts the descriptive approach. The data of the study is analyzed qualitatively. The findings show that most of the business administration EAP materials in Sudanese universities are not based on needs analysis and are not relevant to the students' learning and target situation needs. The drawbacks in EAP materials, in Sudanese universities, are due to the absence of needs analysis practice in the process of syllabi design. Therefore, the researcher recommends the application of needs analysis in the process of course design to assure designing courses that are relevant to the students' actual needs. The EAP courses which are taught in Sudanese universities should be tailored to the students' specific needs.

Abstract (sommario):
The teaching of an introductory course in American Government can be a difficult and frustrating endeavor under even the best of circumstances. Given the general level of cynicism and/or lack of interest by large numbers of Americans regarding politics and politicians, the task of generating student enthusiasm, or even mild interest, toward the subject matter can indeed be an arduous one. When the teaching of such a course takes place in a business college, and when the student audience is “captive” to a college requirement that all students must take the course, the task can be rendered considerably more formidable. For the past six years I have been teaching such courses at business colleges — one year at Bryant College in Rhode Island, and the following five years at Bentley College in Massachusetts.

AbstractTertiary education involves specific perceived issues among PhD candidates that lead to several self-destructive behaviors regarding the research process and the quality of the doctoral thesis. Studying the emotional mechanisms behind the process of doctoral research offers useful insights for both PhD candidates and PhD supervisors. A qualitative approach involving a concept analysis method was used to investigate the concerns about the doctoral process of a group of PhD candidates enrolled in the first year at the Doctoral School of Economics and Business Administration of Iași, Romania. Both spontaneous and induced responses were considered. The order of concerns and the fact that some of them were mentioned together were also taken into account. Most of the concerns are related to time-management. Results are discussed and several recommendations are made.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this paper is to report a summary of the results of a study which examined the appropriateness of using business school students as surrogates for IT professionals by comparing cognitive styles, physiological characteristics, and basic demographic data among the two groups. Cognitive style refers to the way individuals think, perceive and remember information. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Kolb's Learning Style Inventory (LSI), and Human Information Processing Survey (HIPS) tests were used to examine cognitive style. Physiological characteristics examined include dichotic (different ear) listening and visual perception speed, both with laterality (right/leftness). This study identifies important differences between the students and IT professionals. The results have implications for both researchers and designers of future information systems.

Abstract (sommario):
The authors describe the theoretical preparation provided to students in advance of a limited-duration experiential learning experience in Washington DC in a Masters level course for students in Business or Public Administration. The students consider theoretical perspectives from economics, political science, and public administration with respect to the interactions of business and government in the US economy. The students field test the theories via meetings with practitioners in Washington DC and are required to reflect on and then apply how reality does (or does not) map into theory.
