Abstract (sommario):

In Malaysia, the shear strength and corresponding deformation characteristics of residual soils are normally investigated by isotropically consolidated undrained (CIU) triaxial test. In the present study, anisotropically consolidated undrained compression (CAU) tests were carried out and explored in an attempt to facilitate understanding on the fundamental behaviours of a selected residual soil. A triaxial apparatus setup which was capable of performing the CAU test was first developed. Through a monotonic strain-controlled triaxial test apparatus, soil properties and stress paths could be obtained experimentally. It was confirmed that the newly fabricated triaxial apparatus could provide reasonable experimental results. As distinguished from the isotropically consolidated undrained compression (CIU) test, anisotropic stresses were induced in the stress path test. It follows that the soil responses were different between the CIU and CAU tests. The coefficient of earth pressure at rest (Ko) values as obtained in the present experiment showed a good agreement with the values estimated using equation reported by Jaky (1948).

Abstract (sommario):

This paper discusses results of laboratory tests carried out with a residual soil originated from the weathering of eolian sandstone from southern Brazil. Parent rock features, like microfabric and particle bonding, are remarkably well preserved within this residual soil. Stiffness and shear strength properties were evaluated with consolidated drained (CID) and consolidated undrained (CIU) triaxial compression tests. Undisturbed specimens were tested with two different orientations between the specimen axis and bedding surfaces (i.e., parallel (δ = 0°) or perpendicular (δ = 90°)) to investigate the effect of anisotropy. When CID triaxial tests were performed with δ = 0°, the yield surface associated with the structure was much larger than when tests were performed with δ = 90°. Coincidently, CIU tests with δ = 0° showed peak shear strengths much greater than for δ = 90° at comparable test conditions. Once the peak shear strength was surpassed, CIU tests followed collapse-type effective stress paths not shown by corresponding tests with remolded specimens. A near coincidence was observed between the yield surface determined with CID tests and the envelope of collapse-type effective stress paths for δ = 0° and δ = 90°.

Abstract (sommario):

The Correct Information Unit (CIU) analysis for measuring the communicative informativeness and efficiency of connected speech (Nicholas & Brookshire, 1993) was applied to the naturally occurring conversation of a person with moderate aphasia. Results indicated that, in this instance, reliable CIU measures could not be obtained. Intrarater reliability for CIU and %CIU was low, reaching only 72%, and interrater reliability was never greater than 63%. However, reliability of word counts was good. Post hoc analysis of rater disagreements in application of the CIU analysis revealed that the majority (72%) resulted from insufficiencies in the scoring rules that were originally designed to measure single speaker connected discourse. Two descriptive categories of disagreements were identified: interpretations of informativeness and absence of rules. The remaining 28% of disagreements were attributable to human error in the application of scoring rules. Comparison of findings with previous research and implications for future research are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):

Background. Estimation of efficacy of antihistamines in patients with various severity levels and various clinical and laboratory variants of chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) . Methods. The retrospective study of the anamnestic clinical laboratory findings in 196 patients with CIU was performed. Results. The frequency of patients with full effect of antihistamines was 69%, partial efficacy — 11%, lack of efficacy — 20%. Lack of efficacy was dominated in patients with severe course of the disease and the presence of clinical manifestations of autoimmune disorders, non-specific inflammation and / or signs of cutaneous vasculitis. The full effect of antihistamines was dominated in patients with mild to medium CIU, with a normal clinical blood count and with a negative skin test with autologous serum. Conclusion. Lack of efficacy of of antihistamines in patients with severe course of disease, signs of autoimmune disorders specify on others nonhistamine mediators in CIU pathogenesis and application of the second and third line therapy of CIU.

Abstract (sommario):

The purpose of this study was to show the association between urban upbringing and compulsive internet use (CIU). The interview data of the sample (N = 2431) was obtained from the World Mental Health Japan Second Survey and a multilevel model was used to investigate the association. Multiple imputation was also conducted in this study. Growing up in a large city was significantly associated with higher Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) scores (γ = 1.65, Standard Error (SE) = 0.45) and Mild CIU + Severe CIU (Exp(γ) = 1.44; 95% Confidence Interval (CI) (1.04–2.00)) compared to growing up in a small municipality after adjusting for both sociodemographic characteristics and psychopathology. This study showed a possible association between urban upbringing and CIU. Future studies with longitudinal design are needed to better understand this association.

IntroductionIn a recent study developed with a community sample, we have found that although PNT mediated the relationship between perfectionist cognitions and bulimic behavior, the effect of perfectionism on other disordered eating dimensions, such as diet, was independent of the PNT levels (Monteiro et al., 2015).ObjectiveTo investigate if PNT mediates the relationship between perfectionism and disordered eating behaviors in a clinical sample.MethodsFifty-two patients with eating disorders/ED (mean age = 22.54 ± 7.637; mean BMI = 20.07 ± 4.192; 14.5% Anorexia Nervosa cases; 7.8% Bulimia Nervosa and 9.0% EDNOS) were assessed with the ED section of the Diagnostic Interview for Genetic Studies and fill in the Portuguese validated versions of Eating Attitudes Test/EAT-25 (to evaluate Bulimic behaviors/BB, Diet and Social pressure to eat), Multidimensional Perfectionism Scales (to evaluate perfectionism composite dimensions Evaluative Concerns/EC and Perfectionistic Strivings/PS) and Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire/PTQ-15 (to evaluate Repetitive Thought/RT, Cognitive interference and unproductiveness/CIU). Only variables significantly correlated with the outcomes (EAT-25_Total and its dimensions) were entered in the regression models. Mediation analyses using Preacher and Hayes bootstrapping methodology were performed.ResultsEC, PS, CIU and RT were significant predictors of EAT_Total. PA, CIU and PR were significant predictors of BB. EC and PS were significant predictors of Diet. CIU partially mediated the relationship between EC and EAT_Total (95% CI = 0.0025–0.3296) and between EC and BB (95% CI = 0.0037–0.1877).ConclusionAlso in a clinical sample, CII, the most pernicious dimension of PNT, mediates the relationship between perfectionism and disordered eating behavior, particularly bulimic behavior; diet is predicted by perfectionism independently of PNT.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: An association between chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) and autoimmune thyroid disease (ATD) has been reported. However, there have not been any reports on whether ATD raises the risk of angioedema, which is a more severe clinical presentation of CIU. Thus, the aim of the present study was to evaluate whether the risk of angioedema is increased in patients with CIU and ATD. DESIGN AND SETTING: Case-control study including 115 patients with CIU at a tertiary public institution. METHODS: The patients were evaluated with regard to occurrence of angioedema and presence of ATD, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. RESULTS: Angioedema was detected in 70 patients (60.9%). There were 22 cases (19.1%) of ATD, 19 (16.5%) of hypothyroidism and nine (7.8%) of hyperthyroidism. The risk among patients with ATD was 16.2 times greater than among those without this thyroid abnormality (confidence interval, CI = 2.07-126.86). The odds ratio for hypothyroidism was 4.6 (CI = 1.00-21.54) and, for hyperthyroidism, 3.3 (CI = 0.38-28.36). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CIU and ATD presented greater risk of angioedema, which reinforces the idea that a relationship exists between this allergic condition and thyroid autoimmunity. This finding could imply that such patients require specifically directed therapy.

Abstract (sommario):

Background The pathophysiology of chronic idiopathic (spontaneous) urticaria (CIU) is poorly understood. Objective We hypothesized that a study of gene expression in active lesions from patients with CIU would uncover unexpected associations. Methods We enrolled eight patients with CIU and six healthy controls, and obtained 4 mm punch biopsy specimens of active lesions and unaffected skin of patients with CIU and of skin from normal controls. Routine histologic evaluation was performed, RNA was isolated, and gene expression data were assessed. Due to technical reasons, the final evaluation included six samples of lesional skin, six samples of nonlesional skin, and five samples of normal skin. Results As expected, lesional skin had more inflammatory cells per high-powered field (mean ± SE, 96 ± 6) than did samples from nonlesional skin of the subjects with CIU (17 ± 2) (p < 0.01). Lesions of CIU showed significant upregulation of 506 genes and reduced expression of 51 genes. Those most upregulated were predominantly involved in cell adhesion (e.g., selectin E [SELE]), cell activation (e.g., CD69), and chemotaxis (e.g., CCL2). Twelve independent canonical pathways with p ≤ 0.001 were identified (including intracellular kinase pathways (RAs-related nuclear protein [RAN] and Janus activated kinase/interferon), cytokine signaling pathways (IL-9, IL10, and IFN), a strong inflammatory response (interferon, IL-9, IL-10, inducible nitric oxide synthase and glucocorticoid pathways) and increased cell proliferation (RAN signaling, cell cycle control, and tRNA charging). Conclusions This preliminary study describes a method to study gene activation in urticarial lesions and demonstrated a strong inflammatory response with a large variety of activated genes that are distinct from those reported with other dermatologic conditions.

Abstract (sommario):

There is a dearth of measures which evaluate reading comprehension in people with traumatic brain injuries returning to secondary level education. Existing standardized assessments do not accurately measure constructs of high level reading comprehension. Correct information unit (CIU) analysis can be a valuable tool for measuring reading comprehension in these more demanding contexts. However, the measure requires a significant amount of time to administer and score, leading practicing clinicians to use other measures. This exploratory project sought to fill the gap by increasing the clinical feasibility of CIU analysis. Researchers implemented a human-in-the-loop automation of CIU scoring. A within rater comparison across three raters design was utilized to evaluate if the automation provided an increase in efficiency versus by hand scoring. Findings indicate a trend of increased efficiency across raters which was not statistically significant. This thesis supports further studies to continue development of the automated application of CIU analysis.

Abstract (sommario):

La producción in vitro (PIV) de embriones caprinos mediante técnicas de maduración, fecundación y cultivo embrionario in vitro (MIV-FIV-CIV) proporciona un elevado número de embriones utilizables a nivel científico y/o comercial.
El objetivo del este estudio ha sido seleccionar ovocitos de cabra prepuber y sistemas de maduración in vitro para mejorar la producción in vitro de embriones. Los ovocitos se maduraron en medio TCM199 + piruvato sódico + L-glutamina + gentamicina + 10% suero bovino de macho castrado (SS) + 10 mg/ml LH + 10 mg/ml o-FSH + 1 mg/ml 17b-estradiol. Tras 27 h de MIV, los ovocitos se inseminaron con semen fresco (3.5x106 espermatozoides/ml) en medio TALP suplementado con 1 mg/ml de hipotaurina. A las 24 h post-inseminación, se cultivaron en medio SOFm y se mantuvieron 7 días en cultivo.
En el Estudio 1, se evaluó la utilidad del test de Azul de Cresol Brillante (BCB) para seleccionar los ovocitos de cabras prepúberes. Los ovocitos BCB+ (ovocitos con citoplasma coloreado de azul, crecimiento finalizado) presentaron un mayor diámetro (136.6 ¡À 6.3 mm; P<0.001) y mayores tasas de maduración nuclear (81.4%; P<0.05), fecundación normal (23.5%; P<0.0001) y desarrollo más allá del estadio de 8 células (41.3%; P<0.001) y de mórulas más blastocistos (12.0%; P<0.05) que los ovocitos no coloreados de azul.
En el Estudio 2, se utilizó el Factor de Crecimiento Epid¨¦rmico (EGF), para la maduración in vitro. Para ello, se comparó un medio suplementado con hormonas (LH, FSH y 17b-estradiol) y suero (SS o FCS) con un medio suplementado con 10 ng de EGF en ausencia de suero y hormonas. El porcentaje de ovocitos fecundados de forma normal fue inferior (P<0.05) cuando se empleó EGF (17.3%) que SS (SS: 27.2%; FCS: 29.0%). Las tasas de embriones totales (71.5%) y de embriones que superaron el estadio de 8 células (26.2%) fueron superiores (P<0.05) al emplear SS y hormonas en el medio de maduración.
En el Estudio 3, se analizó el efecto de la adición de compuestos tiol (100 ¦ÌM de cisteamina, 100 ¦ÌM de b-mercaptoetanol, 0.57 mM de cisteína y 0.57 mM de cistina) al medio de MIV. Los ovocitos madurados en presencia de cisteamina y b-mercaptoetanol mostraron mayor capacidad (P<0.01) para formar el pronúcleo masculino tras la penetración espermítica (88.0% y 97.1%) y para ser fecundados (P<0.01) de forma normal (72.0% y 77.1%) comparados con el grupo control (62.2% y 37.8%, respectivamente). Asimismo, la adición de cisteamina al medio de MIV mejoró (P<0.05) el porcentaje de embriones que alcanzaron los estadios de mórula y blastocisto (22.2%) y la tasa de blastocistos expandidos (13.0%) respecto al grupo control (6.4% y 2.6%, respectivamente). La concentración de GSH intracelular (pmol/ovocito) fue superior en los ovocitos MIV que en los ovocitos inmaduros.
En el Estudio 4 se evaluó el efecto de la adición de cisteamina al medio de maduración de ovocitos de cabra prepúber seleccionados mediante el test de Azul de Cresol Brillante (BCB) sobre la maduración nuclear, fecundación y desarrollo embrionario in vitro. En presencia de cisteamina, el porcentaje de ovocitos BCB+ y madirados con cisteamina mejoraron la maduración nuclear, los fecundados normales, la formación del pronucleo masculino y el porcentage de embriones a las 8 celulas, comparados con el control y BCB-. En presencia de cisteamina, la formación de mórulas y blastocistos fue superior (P<0.001) en los ovocitos BCB+ (23.8%).
En conclusión, la selección ovocitaria mediante el test de BCB y la MIV en presencia de cisteamina permiten una mayor capacidad de desarrollo tras MIV-FIV-CIV. Sin embargo, a pesar de obtener resultados aceptables en los parámetros de maduración nuclear y de fecundación in vitro, el desarrollo embrionario continúa siendo reducido.
In vitro production (IVP) of caprine embryos using techniques of in vitro maturation, fertilization and embryo culture (IVM-IVF-IVC) provide a high number of embryos.
The aim of the present studies has been the establishment of a system of selection and in vitro maturation of oocytes adequate for competence to develop until blastocyst after in vitro fertilization and embryo culture. For this, oocytes were matured in TCM199 + sodium pyruvate + L-glutamine + gentamicine + 10% steer serum (SS) + 10 mg/ml LH + 10 mg/ml o-FSH + 1 mg/ml 17b-estradiol. After 27 h of IVM, the oocytes were inseminated with fresh sperm (3.5x106 sperm/ml) in TALP medium supplemented with 1 mg/ml hypotaurine. A t 24 h post-insemination, the presuntive zygotes were cultued in SOFm medium and were maintained 7 days in culture.
In Study 1, the utility of the Brilliant Cresyl Blue (BCB) test was evaluated . The BCB+ oocytes (oocytes with blue coloured cytoplasm, fully-grown oocytes) presented a bigger diameter(136.6 ¡À 6.3 mm; P<0.001) and higher rates of nuclear maturation (81.4%; P<0.05), normal fertilization (23.5%; P<0.0001), development beyond the 8-cell stage (41.3%; P<0.001) and morulae plus blastocyts (12.0%; P<0.05) .
In Study 2, the use of an chemically defined medium, based in Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) for the in vitro maturation of prepubertal goat oocytes was investigated. A medium supplemented with hormones and serum (SS or FCS) was compared with a medium with 10 ng EGF. The percentage of normally fertilized oocytes was lower when EGF (17.3%) was employed (SS: 27.2%; FCS: 29.0%). The rate of total embryos (71.5%) and embryos that developed beyond the 8-cell stage (26.2%) were higher (P<0.05) when SS and hormones was used.
In Study 3, the effect of the addition of thiol compounds (100 ¦ÌM cysteamine, 100 ¦ÌM b-mercaptoethanol, 0.57 mM cysteine and 0.57 mM cystine) to the IVM medium was analyzed. The oocytes matured in the presence of cysteamine and b-mercaptoethanol showed a better ability to form the MPN and to be normally fertilized (P<0.01; 72.0% y 77.1%) compared to the control group. The addition of cysteamine to the IVM medium improved the percentage of embryos that reached the m¨®rula plus blastocyst stage (22.2%) and the expanded blastocyst formation rate (13.0%) related to the control group. The intracellular GSH concentration (pmol/oocyte), was higher in the oocytes tIVM than immature oocytes.
In Study 4, the addition of cysteamine to the IVM medium of oocytes selected by the Brilliant Cresyl Blue (BCB) was studied. The control group oocytes, no exposed to the BCB test, were matured in the same medium, but without cysteamine. In the presence of cyteamine, the percentage of oocytes that matured nuclearly was of BCB+ oocytes (89.5%)., while this rate was higher in the presence of cysteamine (77.8%). 97.0% of the penetrated oocytes exhibited ability to form MPN and a 69.7% were able to develop the 2 pronuclei, being these percentages significantly higher. The exposed oocytes to the BCB with cysteamine showed a lower percentage of non-decondensed heads (3.0%) than the control group (25.6%). Embryos developed beyond the 8-cell stage was higher in the BCB+ (68.3%). Likewise, in the presence of cysteamine, the morule plus blastocysts formation rate was higher (P<0.001) in the BCB+ oocytes (23.8%) related to the BCB- oocytes (5.1%).
In conclusion, oocytes selection using the BCB test and the IVM in the presence of cysteamine allow a better development ability after IVM-IVF-IVC. In the present studies, we have been able to confirm an improvement in the oocytes development in relation with the initial IVM system, acting on growing and final maturation phases.

Separatism movements are widespread across the world; however, the European continentcontains several regions who wish to become independent sovereign states. The autonomousregion of Catalonia is one of Europe's many separatist regions, where a separatism movementis present. This study analyses the active separatism of Catalonia, with an emphasis onregional Catalan as well as national Spanish political organization’s attitude towards aCatalan independent state, and also which argument they have regarding an independentCatalonia. The purpose is to describe the regional Catalan as well as the national Spanishpolitical organization’s position within the debate regarding a Catalan separation from Spain.The utilized method for this study is a describing analysis of ideas, in order to analyze andunderstand the empirical material.This essay implements, based on the essay's theoretical framework, two analytical tools inorder to analyze the empirical material of the political organization’s which are two idealtypes of the phenomena nationalism and separatism.The study concludes that the regional Catalan political organizations, CiU and ERC, havemore tendencies of separatism in their pro-independence rhetoric’s, and they have movedaway from their former nationalistic political platforms because of failed dialogs with theSpanish national government. Regarding the national Spanish political organizations, on theother hand, the study concludes that both PSOE and PP have strong tendencies of nationalismin their rhetoric against Catalan independence, much in due to their alignment to the Spanishconstitution and their political goal of a more united Spain.

La tesi estudia els conflictes entre Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya i Unió Democràtica de Catalunya. Des de la teoria del conflicte i utilitzant la metodologia de l'anàlisi de contingut, s'hi analitzen els articles de quatre diaris publicats a Barcelona (La Vanguardia, El Periódico, El País i Avui) durant tres moments d'especial confrontació entre CDC i UDC (1996-97, 2001 i 2006). La investigació se centra sobre les característiques del conflicte publicat i el paper dels diaris en relació amb el conflicte mateix i els seus dos actors principals. Les conclusions indiquen que es tracta d'un conflicte estructural, per quotes de poder a CiU, la tensió del qual és proporcional a la progressió en la preparació i execució de la successió de Jordi Pujol. La premsa hi intervé decisivament en el seu desenvolupament, com a tercer involucrat, però no com a part principal. La Vanguardia segueix l'interès d'UDC, enfoca el conflicte des d'UDC i és pro UDC. El Periódico se situa a l'oposició política, enfoca el conflicte des de CDC i s'hi posiciona contra UDC. El País adopta una oposició ideològica, des de fora i contra CDC. L'Avui hi interpreta l'interès de CiU, des de dins i a favor de CDC.
La tesis estudia los conflictos entre Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya y Unió Democràtica de Catalunya. Desde la teoría del conflicto y utilizando la metología del análisis de contenido, se analizan los artículos de cuatro diarios publicados en Barcelona (La Vanguardia, El Periódico, El País i Avui) durante tres momentos de especial confrontación entre CDC y UDC (1996-97, 2001 i 2006). La investigación se centra en las características del conflicto publicado y el papel de los diarios en relación con el conflicto mismo y sus dos actores principales. Las conclusiones indican que se trata de un conflicto estructural, por cuotas de poder en CiU, cuya tensión es proporcional a la progresión en la preparación y ejecución de la sucesión de Jordi Pujol. La prensa interviene decisivamente en su desarrollo, como tercero involucrado, pero no parte principal. La Vanguardia sigue el interés de UDC, enfoca el conflicte desde UDC y es pro UDC. El Periódico se sitúa en la oposición política, enfoca el conflicto desde CDC y se posiciona contra UDC. El País adopta una oposición ideológica, desde fuera y contra CDC. L'Avui interpreta el interés de CiU, desde dentro y a favor de CDC.
The thesis studies the conflicts between CDC and UDC as portrayed by some Barcelona newspapers. From the startpoint of the conflict theory and using the methodology of content analysis, articles published by four dailies (La Vanguardia, El Periódico, El País i Avui) during three moments of particular tension between CDC and UDC (1996-97, 2001 i 2006) are analysed. The research is focused on the characteristics of the conflict, as it was published, and on the role that the newspapers had relating to the development of the conflict itself and to its two protagonists. The conclusions from the study indicate that it is a structural conflict, motivated by a power struggle within CiU. The tension increases as the succession to Jordi Pujol's leadership approaches and it is implemented. The press, as a third party, albeit with a secundary role, has a decisive intervention in the conflict development. La Vanguardia follows the interests of UDC, looks at the conflict from UDC's viewpoint and it is pro-UDC. El Periódico adopts a political opposition, viewing the conflict from the stadtpoint of CDC and against UDC. El País adopts an ideological opposition looking at the conflict from the outside and against CDC. Avui follows the interests of CiU, acting from within and favouring CDC.

En paraules de Josep Termes el catalanisme històric és un moviment de defensa de la identitat i de lluita per aconseguir un autogovern per a Catalunya, lluny del centralisme i de l´uniformisme. Ha estat, i és, un moviment complex i plural en el qual conviuen doctrines, estratègies i polítiques molt diferents, en què combreguen catòlics i ateus, separatistes i indiferents a les formes de govern, gent conservadora i de l´esquerra, homes de cultura i d´altres de poc lletrats. És considerat també interclassista. Per tant, com bé diu Termes, <> i <> podrien ésser els mots clau que defineixen aquest moviment. D´altra banda, el catalanisme s´ha recolzat en el fet evident de la catalanitat com a element essencial del poble català. I aquesta identitat significa l´estima pels seus elements: una llengua pròpia, el català; una cultura pròpia, uns símbols identitaris i unes tradicions populars. Respecte als orígens del catalanisme per a Josep Termes, com per a estudiosos com Fèlix Cucurull o històricament per a un Josep Narcís Roca i Farreras, el catalanisme té un origen popular i no pas burgès, contràriament a la idea que la historiografia havia estat defensant fins aleshores i de la que Jordi Solé Tura n´és un dels seus màxims exponents. Per a Josep Termes no serà la burgesia industrial catalana la que creï el catalanisme, mitjançant la Lliga Regionalista de 1901 i les doctrines de Prat de la Riba, sinó que aquesta classe social el que farà és adaptar-se a la plataforma cultural i política que s´havia establert al llarg del segle XIX pel moviment de les classes populars i dels intel.lectuals orgànics de la nació, trobant en ella l´única plataforma possible per fer política des de Catalunya. En canvi, per a Jordi Solé Tura, el nacionalisme català neix i es desenvolupa en un període en què el mode de producció capitalista pugna per aconseguir el pla hegemònic a l´Estat espanyol sense arribar a aconseguir-ho plenament, i Prat de la Riba és la figura que representa aquesta burgesia. Per a Solé Tura, doncs, la història d´aquest nacionalisme, en les seves diverses fases, és la història d´una “revolució burgesa frustrada”. Un dels principals objectius de la tesi doctoral és veure l´evolució del catalanisme a través dels principals partits polítics catalans (PSC, PSUC, ERC, CDC, UDC, AP, CC, UCD) i a través de la societat civil (entitats, intel.lectuals, etc) des de l´etapa post-franquista (1976), etapa en què tornaren a aparèixer els partits polítics, fins a l´etapa final del pujolisme (2003). Reflectir com durant la Transició els principals partits polítics catalans van defensar la reconstrucció de Catalunya des d´un eix nacional, és a dir, des de la defensa unànime de l´autogovern de Catalunya, i a partir de 1980 van evolucionar cap a l´eix dreta-esquerra fent que només CiU i ERC prioritzessin en els seus programes de partit les polítiques de reconstrucció nacional. La resta de partits polítics catalans, en canvi, centraren els seus programes en polítiques socials, econòmiques, etc, tot i que no van deixar de defensar l´autogovern de Catalunya, cadascú des de les seves conviccions ideològiques federalistes, confederalistes, etc. Paral.lelament el treball també pretén mostrar l´evolució de CiU i d´ERC mitjançant una anàlisi comparativa dels respectius projectes nacionals observant punts de divergència i de convergència. Una anàlisi que acaba l´any 2003 quan CiU perd el Govern de la Generalitat després de vint-i-tres anys, i quan ERC, després d´aconseguir a partir de 1996 una gran embranzida, aconsegueix arribar al Govern de la Generalitat mitjançant el Tripartit, període que ja s´escapa de l´anàlisi d´aquest treball i que obrirà una nova etapa a Catalunya. I acaba demostrant que el començament de l´evolució interna de CDC cap al dret a decidir no ha estat com defensen alguns arran de la Sentència del Tribunal Constitucional respecte a l´Estatut el juliol del 2010 sinó que és una idea que l´actual president Artur Mas va començar a defensar per primera vegada públicament el 20 de gener de 2002 quan va ésser presentat com a candidat oficial a les eleccions autonòmiques de 2003, mogut per un nou canvi de paradigma que li va fer canviar la manera de pensar Catalunya i superar l´autonomia defensada fins aleshores pel president Jordi Pujol. A més, cal destacar també l´evolució d´una nova generació provinent de la JNC com Carles Campuzano, Meritxell Borràs, Josep Rull, etc, que pertanyia al grup Sinepsi, un grup postpujolista que a partir dels anys 90 anaren accedint al poder i ajudaren a canviar el rumb del partit.
The principal objective of my doctoral thesis is the evolution of catalanism through the principals Catalan political parties (PSC, PSUC, ERC, CDC, UDC, AP, CC, UCD) and through the civil society, from post-Franco stage (1976), to the final of the Pujolisme stage (2003). Ultimately, reflect as during Transition the principal Catalan political parties defended the Catalonia´s political reconstruction from national axis, I mean, defending the Catalonia´s self-government, and from 1980 they developed to left- right axis. Only CiU and ERC continued to defend national reconstruction policies in their electoral program as main objective. The rest of the Catalan political parties prioritized socials policies although continued to defend the Catalonia´s self-government, each from their ideological convictions: federalists, confederalists, etc. The doctoral thesis to reflect also the parallel evolution between CiU and ERC through a comparative analysis of their national projects observing points of divergence and convergence. This analysis finish in 2003 when CiU lost The Government of Catalonia after twenty-three years, and ERC, after getting a big rise from 1996, get come to Catalonia´s Government through the Tripartit. Finally, this thesis to reflect also the beginning of the internal evolution from CDC to right to decide. This evolution hasn´t happened, unlike as some think, from the constitutional judgment in july 2010 about Estatut de Catalunya, but it´s an idea that the current President of Catalonia Artur Mas began to defend first publicly the January 20th 2002 when he was introduced as an official candidate for the regional elections 2003, pushed by a new context did he change the way he thinks Catalonia and overcome autonomy defended until then by the ex-president of Catalonia Jordi Pujol. Furthermore, it should be emphasized the evolution of a new generation inside of CDC from the JNC as for example Carles Campuzano, Meritxell Borràs, Josep Rull, etc, belonging to the Sinepsi´s group, it´s a post-pujolista group that from 90´s were coming to power and they helped change the course of CDC.

Esta investigación se centra en averiguar si el PSC-‐PSOE y CiU utilizan Twitter como herramienta de comunicación bidireccional para comunicarse con sus públicos, estudiando el tipo de información emitida desde los perfiles oficiales de ambos partidos en las campañas electorales transcurridas en Cataluña entre 2010 y 2012; al Parlament de Catalunya el 28 de noviembre de 2010, al Ayuntamiento de Barcelona el 22 de mayo de 2011, al Congreso de los Diputados de Madrid el 20 de noviembre de 2011 y, nuevamente, al Parlament de Catalunya el día 25 de noviembre de 2012. Para realizarla, se utiliza una triangulación metodológica compuesta por un análisis de contenidos cuantitativo y cualitativo en los mensajes publicados en Twitter de las cuentas oficiales de los partidos, una observación no participante en un mitin de cada partido/campaña y entrevistas en profundidad semiestructuradas a cada uno de los responsables de campaña 2.0. Esta triangulación se complementa con diferentes entrevistas en profundidad a expertos en comunicación política 2.0. La discusión de esta tesis se sustenta también en la revisión bibliográfica que se presenta en el marco teórico de esta monografía. Concluyendo con todo ello que, pese a la utilización de Twitter y a la evolución en la manera de comunicar sucedida entre 2010 y 2012, tanto CiU como el PSC-‐PSOE no mantienen un diálogo con la ciudadanía, no aprovechando así lo que esta herramienta ofrece: la posibilidad de una comunicación bidireccional.
This research focuses on finding out if the PSC-¬‐PSOE and CiU use Twitter as a tool for two‐way communication to communicate with their audiences, studying the type of information issued from the official profiles of both parties in election campaigns held between 2010 and 2012 in Catalonia; to the Parliament of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, the Congress of Deputies in Madrid, and again, the Parliament of Catalonia. For this procedure, we use a methodological triangulation consisting of an analysis of quantitative and qualitative content of the messages posted on Twitter in the official accounts used by the political party; a literature review and in‐depth interviews to those responsible for communication 2.0 in CiU and PSC‐PSOE in the mentioned elections. It also contains semi-¬structured interviews to experts in political communication 2.0 and non-participant observation of various meetings, one for party and candidate, carried out during the PSC-PSOE and CiU analyzed campaigns.
Aquesta investigació se centra a descobrir si el PSC - PSOE i CiU utilitzen Twitter com una eina per a la comunicació de bidireccional per comunicar-se amb els seus públics, estudiant el tipus d'informació emesa a partir dels perfils oficials de tots dos partits en les campanyes electorals van transcórrer a Catalunya entre 2010 i 2012; al Parlament de Catalunya, a l'Ajuntament de Barcelona, al Congrés dels Diputats de Madrid, i de nou, al Parlament de Catalunya. Per realitzar-la, s'utilitza una triangulació metodològica que consisteix en una anàlisi quantitativa i qualitativa continguda en els missatges publicats a Twitter dels comptes oficials del partit utilitzats; una revisió de la literatura i les entrevistes en profunditat als responsables de la comunicació 2.0 CiU i PSC - PSOE a les eleccions esmentades. També conté entrevistes semiestructurades a experts en comunicació política 2.0 i observacions no participants de diversos mítings, un per partit i candidat, duts a terme durant les campanyes analitzades del PSC - PSOE i CiU.

ABSTRACT Carbon-in-pulp (CIP) technology is firmly entrenched in the mining sector due to numerous advances in the last few decades. CIP technology recovers complexed gold in solution from slurry streams by contacting the pulp with carbon and separating the two by screening. The carbon-in-leach (CIL) process, where the pulp contains free cyanide, is closely related to CIP. Both these processes, especially CIL, are complex and are governed by a number of interacting unit processes. The overall process efficiency is dependant on a large number of variables, making the process difficult to optimize. This study uses simple adsorption and leaching rate equations in order to predict dynamic CIL/CIP plant performance under varying operating conditions. This will assist plant metallurgists to achieve optimum efficiency, highlight plant sensitivity to certain variables and will ultimately result in proactive process control. Various assumptions were made in order to keep the modeling considerations as simple and realistic as possible. The process was assumed to have linear kinetic and equilibrium operation. The process was simulated using Simulink in Matlab. Variables are solved on a time step basis by Matlab’s built in optimization algorithms. Simulation results illustrated that the use of simple leaching and adsorption rate expressions are effective for investigating dynamic plant behavior under changing operating conditions.

AbstractCritical Infrastructures (CIs) face numerous cyber-physical threats that can affect citizens’ lives and habits, increase their feeling of insecurity, and influence the seamless services provision. During such incidents, but also in general for the security of CIs several internal and external stakeholders are involved, having different needs and requirements, trying to cooperate, respond and recover. Although CIs security management process is well analyzed in the literature there is a need to set a common ground among different CIs, thus reducing administration/coordination overhead and rendering the decision making and crisis management process more efficient. In this direction, this paper considers three different CIs (airport facilities, gas infrastructures, and hospitals); presents the current and emerging physical and cyber security related regulations and standards, operations, organisational and technical measure and; finally, through the discussion on gaps and best practices identified, proposes a global, cyber-physical security management and joint coordination approach. The proposed approach recommends among others that the adoption of a Holistic Security Operation Centre (HSOC) in each CI and a National Coordination Centre (NCC), supervising them, which will facilitate the communication and cooperation between the different CI operators and stakeholders, in case of an incident, that may have cascading effects to interconnected Infrastructures. The findings presented and the conclusions drawn are linked with three EU funded research projects (SATIE, SecureGas and SAFECARE), that aim to improve physical and cyber security of CIs in a seamless and cost-effective way.

Acid is often injected into porous media to dissolve rock material and enhance flow capability of the rock. Most simulation studies on the propagation of the dissolution front are based on constant injection rate (CIR). Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop numerical model to study acid dissolution front under constant injection pressure (CIP) and also incorporate the effect of fluid temperature on acid–rock interaction. Commercial computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software (ANSYS Fluent) is used to solve three-dimensional acid-rock interaction model in cylindrical coordinates. In this work, correlated porosity and permeability distributions are generated. Effect of heat transfer between the injected fluid and the formation on fluid properties and surface reaction rate are accounted for in the model. The study confirmed that all types of acid dissolution patterns exist during constant injection pressure. CIP technique requires lower acid volume to achieve breakthrough in the conical and branched dissolution regimes, than that is required for CIR technique. In dominant wormhole pattern, both techniques require nearly the same acid volume to breakthrough. Thermal interaction between the injected fluid and the formation leads to change of surface reaction rate and physical properties of the fluid, such as viscosity, density, and diffusivity. Injection of cold fluid into heated formation leads to a higher wormhole density as found from experimental studies due to retardation of surface reaction rate. The model developed in this work accurately captures different dissolution patterns. The model shows that the acid volume required for wormhole breakthrough depends on the inlet conditions (CIR or CIP) and the thermal interaction between the injected fluid and formation. This modeling study attempts to answer the critical questions pertaining to the effect of temperature and injection conditions on acid-rock interaction.

Normalios eksploatacijos metu vario, indžio, seleno (CIS) saulės moduliai nesukelia jokio neigiamo poveikio aplinkai. Tačiau šių modulių gamybos, instaliavimo ant stogo bei išmetimo metu sukeliama reikšminga tarša. Modulių poveikis aplinkai buvo vertinamas naudojant būvio ciklo metodą analizuojant gamybos, instaliavimo ant stogo ir šalinimo į sąvartyną etapus. Poveikio aplinkai gamybos ir instaliavimo ant stogo etapuose vertinimui atlikti buvo naudojama programa SimaPro 7.3. Rezultatai parodė, kad CIS saulės moduliai didžiausią neigiamą poveikį padaro žmonių sveikatai –16,5 Pt, mažiausią – ekosistemos kokybei – 1,4 Pt. Siekiant ištirti galimą poveikį aplinkai esant CIS modulių sudužimo atvejui jų eksploatacijos metu bei CIS modulių atliekų pavojingumą po jų eksploatavimo laiko pabaigos buvo atlikti eksperimentiniai tyrimai analizuojant 6 metalų – Na, Mg, Fe, Cd, Cu, Zn išsiplovimą. Iš analizuotų metalų buvo nustatyta, kad Na išsiplovimas iš CIS modulio atliekų buvo didžiausias. Lyginant tik sunkiuosius metalus buvo nustatyta, kad daugiausia išsiplovė Zn.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper presents a new design for a Compressor Inlet Manifold (CIM) for a land-based power generation Gas Turbine (turbine). The CIM is the component of the Inlet System (IS) that is directly connected to the turbine via the Compressor Inlet Case (CIC). The design philosophy is to use low fidelity but fast and automated CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) for design iterations and then confirm the design with detailed higher accuracy CFD before proceeding to engine tests. New design features include contouring the wall to minimize areas of flow separation and associated unsteadiness and losses, and improvement of the flow quality into the compressor. The CIM in a land-based turbine acts as a nozzle whereas the inlet of an aircraft acts as a diffuser. The flow also enters the CIM at 90 deg to the engine axis. This leads to a pair of counter rotating vortices at the compressor inlet. Three main sources of flow distortions at the face of the compressor are identified: flow separations at outer walls of the IS and CIM struts and the counter rotating vortices. The higher accuracy CFD analysis including the complete IS, CIM and the first compressor stage, simulates the effect of these distortions on the compressor front stage at design conditions. A range of inlet distortion parameters are used to evaluate the inlet design. The well known DC60 based criterion derived from aircraft engines and other less known but published parameters are able to give an indication of how the compressor surge margin of stationary gas turbines is affected.

Abstract The corrosion effect of an I2 background during focused ion beam (FIB) analysis of Cu-metallization structures is investigated. In-situ Cu corrosion in the FIB system can occur even if the I2 gas has not been used anymore in the last 24 h before the loading of the Cu sample in the system including several vents and pump-downs of the chamber in that period. Hence the I2 can have a long-term memory effect and is not compatible with FIB analysis or modification of devices with Cu metallization. Compositional and structural analysis shows that the reaction product is CuI.

The primary purpose of this paper is to introduce essential elements of cognitive information processing (CIP) theory, research, and practice as they existed at the time of this writing. The introduction that follows describes the nature of career choices and career interventions, and the integration of theory, research, and practice. After the introduction, the paper continues with three main sections that include CIP theory related to vocational behavior, research related to vocational behavior and career intervention, and CIP theory related to career interventions. The first main section describes CIP theory, including the evolution of CIP theory, the nature of career problems, theoretical assumptions, the pyramid of information processing domains, the CASVE Cycle, and the use of the pyramid and CASVE cycle. The second main section describes CIP theory-based research in examining vocational behavior and establishing evidence-based practice for CIP theory-based career interventions. The third main section describes CIP theory related to career intervention practice, including theoretical assumptions, readiness for career decision making, readiness for career intervention, the differentiated service delivery model, and critical ingredients of career interventions. The paper concludes with regularly updated sources of information on CIP theory.

Magnetic responsive materials can be used in a variety of applications. For structural applications, the ability to create tunable moduli from relatively soft materials with applied electromagnetic stimuli can be advantageous for light-weight protection. This study investigated magnetorheological composite materials involving carbonyl iron particles (CIP) embedded into two different systems. The first material system was a model cementitious system of CIP and kaolinite clay dispersed in mineral oil. The magnetorheological behaviors were investigated by using parallel plates with an attached magnetic accessory to evaluate deformations up to 1 T. The yield stress of these slurries was measured by using rotational and oscillatory experiments and was found to be controllable based on CIP loading and magnetic field strength with yield stresses ranging from 10 to 104 Pa. The second material system utilized a polystyrene-butadiene rubber solvent-cast films with CIP embedded. The flexible matrix can stiffen and become rigid when an external field is applied. For CIP loadings of 8% and 17% vol %, the storage modulus response for each loading stiffened by 22% and 74%, respectively.
