Abstract (sommario):
The sintered diffusion multiple (SDM) method, which has been developed in our research group, has been applied to determine the entire composition range of the CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy stereoscopically and continuously over nearly the entire range. The samples were prepared by sintering mixed elemental powders and were annealed at 970 °C or 800 °C. Several hundreds of thousands of points were analyzed at random within the samples for chemical compositions using electron probe microanalysis. With the assumption that ideally, only chemical compositions of existing phases at the temperature of annealing are obtained, the compositional data thus obtained were analyzed to estimate the phase boundaries of the high-entropy phase, including the Cantor alloy composition, assuming local equilibrium within the samples. The analysis includes the determination of point densities and their slopes in the space of chemical composition. The results are shown in the tetrahedral compositional space, with vertices for the Cr, Mn, and Fe atomic fractions and the sum of the Co and Ni fractions. One of the features found in this work is that the high-entropy phase exhibits a wide compositional range in the Fe-CrMnCoNi direction. The estimated phase boundary compositions are found to be in good agreement, within an error range 3 at.%, with those obtained using samples prepared by the conventional method, where the samples with uniform compositions are equilibrated by annealing, and the compositions of their existing phases are analyzed using EPMA. Thus, the sintered diffusion multiple method is effective in providing an overview of the quinary phase diagrams.

Abstract (sommario):
Compositional generalization is the capability of a model to understand novel compositions composed of seen concepts. There are multiple levels of novel compositions including phrase-phrase level, phrase-word level, and word-word level. Existing methods achieve promising compositional generalization, but the consistency of compositional generalization across multiple levels of novel compositions remains unexplored. The consistency refers to that a model should generalize to a phrase-phrase level novel composition, and phrase-word/word-word level novel compositions that can be derived from it simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a meta-learning based framework, for achieving consistent compositional generalization across multiple levels. The basic idea is to progressively learn compositions from simple to complex for consistency. Specifically, we divide the original training set into multiple validation sets based on compositional complexity, and introduce multiple meta-weight-nets to generate sample weights for samples in different validation sets. To fit the validation sets in order of increasing compositional complexity, we optimize the parameters of each meta-weight-net independently and sequentially in a multilevel optimization manner. We build a GQA-CCG dataset to quantitatively evaluate the consistency. Experimental results on visual question answering and temporal video grounding, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Abstract (sommario):
The article provides justification and development of the methodology for modeling the recipe composition of health food products based on functional compositions. The basis of the modeling is the principle of food combinatorics, which consists in the justified quantitative selection of the main raw materials and food additives, which together ensure the formation of the necessary organoleptic and physicochemical properties, the given level of nutritional (food, biological) and energy value. Modeling of food products is the process of creating a product as a single integrated system consisting of elements that do not individually provide the specified properties. Conceptual approaches to the modeling of functional compositions and products based on them consist in optimizing the selection and ratio of ingredients, by which it is possible to obtain a composition that, in terms of quantitative content and qualitative composition, best meets the indicators of nutritional value and medical and biological requirements. The application of a mathematical apparatus based on the formalization of qualitative and quantitative indicators of the composition, nutritional value of individual ingredients and their combinations in the composition of model functional compositions allows, through simulation modeling, to determine the total content of an individual component. Taking into account the above-mentioned factors, the modeling results, as a rule, provide effective optimization of the product composition and parameters of individual operations of the technological process. Upon completion of the stage of multi-level experimental modeling, the functional compositions and technologies of the products are checked in laboratory and production conditions, after which their final adjustment is made. At the final stage, comprehensive studies of the main indicators of the quality of finished products, calculation of economic indicators, testing of technology in production conditions, preparation, coordination and approval of regulatory documents and organization of industrial implementation are carried out. The application of the design methodology of model functional compositions and food products allows to increase the degree of use of raw materials and expand the assortment of products with a given composition and properties for health purposes.

Abstract (sommario):
Music is an amalgam of logic and emotion, order and dissonance, along with many combinations of contradicting notions which allude to deterministic chaos. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that several research works have examined the utilization of dynamical systems for symbolic music composition. The main motivation of the paper at hand is the analysis of the tonal composition potentialities of several discrete dynamical systems, in comparison to genuine human compositions. Therefore, a set of human musical compositions is utilized to provide "compositional guidelines" to several dynamical systems, the parameters of which are properly adjusted through evolutionary computation. This procedure exposes the extent to which a system is capable of composing tonal sequences that resemble human composition. In parallel, a time series analysis on the genuine compositions is performed, which firstly provides an overview of their dynamical characteristics and secondly, allows a comparative analysis with the dynamics of the artificial compositions. The results expose the tonal composition capabilities of the examined iterative maps, providing specific references to the tonal characteristics that they can capture.

Abstract (sommario):
Alloy coatings can enhance the mechanical and electrochemical properties of engineering materials such as surface hardness, wear resistance, catalytic performance, and corrosion resistance. The development and testing of alloy films requires extensive time and experimentation due to the non-monotonic variation of many properties with alloy composition and the large experimental space of compositions, which increases rapidly with the number of components in the alloy. The development time of alloy thin films can be reduced by analyzing many compositions in a single experiment. However, many current thin film deposition-based gradient synthesis techniques are expensive, produce a limited experimental range of compositions, and may not vary the composition of each component independently. Electrodeposition is an attractive technique for thin film deposition due to its low cost, high scalability, and sensitivity to the geometry of the deposition environment, but conventional co-electrodeposition of multiple metals from a single electrolyte bath suffers from limited compositional control and experimental range. We report an electrodeposition-based method that produces a wide range of compositions on a single sample with good compositional control. To demonstrate, we coated samples of polished Cu with NiCo alloys with gradient local composition. The composition, phase, morphology, and performance of the NiCo thin films are investigated using a range of high-resolution techniques including x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, synchrotron X-ray diffraction, SEM, and nanoindentation.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractMineral chemistry and whole-rock compositional data are reported for two lavas of picritic basalt from the Palaeocene lava field of west-central Skye, Scotland. Whole-rock compositions for both flows plot on Thompson's (1982) 9 kbar cotectic for olivine + plagioclase + clinopyroxene + liquid. Both flows contain highly forsteritic olivine phenocrysts (c. Fo89), which enclose early-precipitated crystals of chrome-spinel (Al2O3: c. 25 wt.%; Cr2O3: c. 36 wt.%; FeO + Fe2O3: c. 20 wt.%; MgO: c. 15 wt.%). The olivine compositions indicate equilibrium with picritic basalt magma compositions, as represented by the whole-rock compositions of both lavas. A high-pressure origin for the chrome-spinels is suspected on the basis of their textural association and aluminous composition. Compositional comparisons between the whole-rock and mineral chemistry characteristics of both flows and a picritic basalt chill facies of the temporally- and spatially-associated Rum Igneous Complex suggests that similar parental magmas were involved.

Abstract (sommario):
The article summarizes the features of free compositions based on the experience of modern world architecture, which, together with other methods, bring the scope of possibilities of modern architectural composition beyond traditional principles. It is proposed to divide the architectural compositions according to orderliness into the following classes: ordered composition; free composition; a combination of ordered and free composition. The features of free compositions are considered: complexity, diversity, the absence of a simple and clear regularity of the arrangement of parts. A free composition is perceived as a complex, spatial, diverse collection of parts and surfaces. Peculiarities of perception and awareness of free compositions, which differ from perception and awareness of traditional ordered compositions, are analyzed.
Examples of modern buildings created on the basis of free compositions are given. The main trend of modern architecture, where free compositions were introduced, is deconstructivism. However, architects working in other trends and creative approaches also used free compositions. The substantiation of this powerful phenomenon, realized in significant buildings, is based on the creativity of such modern architects as: Günter Behnisch, Frank Gehry, Toyo Ito, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, Eric Owen Moss, Thom Mayne, Wolf Dieter Prix, Zaha Hadid etc.
An approximate generalization of methodical approaches to the creation of free compositions is proposed: free compositions based on a combination of various volumes; free compositions based on the combination of various fragments of surfaces; free compositions based on complex surfaces with various sections; physically variable free compositions (transformation of facade systems or parts of the building); illusory and variable free compositions (media facades installed on surfaces or external projection systems, holographic systems); free compositions based on the use of means of alternative materiality (transparent surfaces, mirror surfaces, light forms, forms from streams of water or steam, etc.).

Abstract (sommario):
A study inviting teachers at primary, secondary and tertiary level to introduce their students to composing activities through a resource album of minimalist projects noted that some teachers led their students to write “pastiche” compositions while others enabled their student composers to move beyond pastiche to an expansion of the given compositional concepts. Results examined compositions of music as imitating the style of an existing work, or whether teachers enabled their students to move beyond pastiche composition to an expansion of the given compositional concepts. This paper discusses the approaches, strategies, and roles adopted by both groups of teachers.

Abstract (sommario):
Compositional zero-shot learning (CZSL) aims to recognize unseen attribute-object compositions by learning from seen compositions. Composing the learned knowledge of seen primitives, i.e., attributes or objects, into novel compositions is critical for CZSL. In this work, we propose to explicitly retrieve knowledge of seen primitives for compositional zero-shot learning. We present a retrieval-augmented method, which augments standard multi-path classification methods with two retrieval modules. Specifically, we construct two databases storing the attribute and object representations of training images, respectively. For an input training/testing image, we use two retrieval modules to retrieve representations of training images with the same attribute and object, respectively. The primitive representations of the input image are augmented by using the retrieved representations, for composition recognition. By referencing semantically similar images, the proposed method is capable of recalling knowledge of seen primitives for compositional generalization. Experiments on three widely-used datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract (sommario):
Compositional reservoir modeling often requires a large number of instantaneous calculations. To reduce the dimension of the problem and the amount of computation, several components are usually grouped into pseudo-components. However, to model surface processes, it is important to have a detailed phase composition. Accurate fluid composition requires laboratory analysis, which is costly and time-consuming. This study addresses this issue by introducing an advanced delumping procedure aimed at providing an accurate fluid characterization. The primary objective was to develop a sophisticated delumping procedure capable of precisely describing detailed fluid compositions from calculations involving mixtures. Its goal is to reduce reliance on laboratory analysis, making the process more efficient. The results obtained from this research can improve the planning and modeling of surface facilities, developed under conditions of reservoir pressure above saturation pressure. To test the effectiveness of the proposed delumping and achieve the goals set, experiments were carried out on compositional simulation of oil production in the Caspian basin. The procedure uses reduction parameters calculated from simulation data and an analytical approach to characterize fluid compositions from the original data. Detailed fluid compositions obtained through laboratory PVT analysis were then compared with the results of simulation using PVTsim software and numerical delumping procedures. The findings showed a close agreement between the outcomes of detailed compositions obtained through the delumping procedure and of laboratory analysis, with an average deviation less than 5 %, confirming the effectiveness of delumping as an alternative method for obtaining an accurate fluid composition

Abstract (sommario):
The following chapters describe compositional methods applied to the compositions of the portfolio (Volume I), which consists of eight works for instruments and electronic sound, as well as one purely electronic piece. The main concern in all these works is aspects of open form and, to a lesser extent, indeterminacy during performance. I highlight the research I have undertaken in preparation for each of the compositions, show how all of these pieces are progressively linked by my evolving interest in open form, and place them in context with works by other composers, past and present, who have employed similar, or different, experimental procedures. Volume II, the composition commentary, includes a technical appendix, explaining the different software processes for the individual works, and a recourses appendix containing recordings of all of the nine compositions, as well as all of the Max patches, Max for Live devices and sound files I have programmed and created for the electronic parts of the pieces.

Abstract (sommario):
The thesis for the Master of Music degree in Composition consists of live performances of original works composed during graduate study. The student is expected to have written and performed approximately forty-five minutes of music for various media. My compositions were performed on January 27 (Autumn Fantasia) and February 20 (Five Elements) of 2006, and March 12 (Bounce!), 30 (The Little Fairy), April 3 (String Quartet No.1), August 15(Ballads of Four Seasons) and November 19 (Three Pieces for Solo Violin) of 2007. Briefly, each work was written in different compositional approach such as the timbres, specific colours, textures, themes and rhythmic practices. Autumn Fantasia and The Little Fairy explore the transformations and developments of thematic material. Bounce! is a piece in the procedure of tempo modulations and polyrhythmic practices. The textural experiment is the "source" for String Quartet No. 1.In both Ballads of Four Seasons and Five Elements, I employed the oriental tone color (pentatonic scales)in one particular line combining with western-based (chromaticism) sonority and sounding in other parts. Finally, to accumulate every compositional skills and techniques, Three Pieces for Solo Violin is a work binding each practices altogether.

The thesis for the Master of Music degree in Composition consists of live performances of original works composed during graduate study. The student is expected to have written and have performed approximately an hour of music for various media. This compilation, despite the variety of medium, clearly represents my interest in contemporary classical vocabulary, spectral analysis, and extended techniques, as well as the precious universal heritage of ethnic music. Shapes and forms of these pieces though representative of contemporary composition, has aesthetic roots in various ethnic arts, especially in their frequent use of non-western ratios. The pitch material despite its occasional resemblance to existing traditional music is derived from synthetic modes, which combines a number of divergent elements including Indian raga, Persian gushe and Varesian techniques. I have adapted a harmonic language, which is derived from spectral analysis of few Persian instruments, including Tar and Santur. This bimodal harmonic language is often ornated with a modal counterpoint, which has its roots in different ethnic modes. In other words, not only the structure and plan but also the content of these pieces conveys intercultural elements.<br>Arts, Faculty of<br>Music, School of<br>Graduate

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Nickel-aluminum bronzes are metallurgically complex alloys. Small variations in composition can result in markedly different microstructures. In a previous study, the microstructures of selected alloy compositions were characterized and correlated with seawater corrosion resistance. The present study discusses the results from seawater jet impingement tests conducted on these same alloy compositions. Specimens prepared from two different experimental heats of nickel-aluminum bronze were subjected to various heat treatments prior to jet impingement testing in seawater. As-cast commercial nickel-aluminum bronze was also tested, as an experimental control. Both experimental heats and the experimental control are in compliance with UNS C95800 and MIL-B-24480, except that one of the experimental heats, at 8.1% Al, was intentionally melted to be below the lower limit of the specified aluminum compositional range of 8.5 to 9.5%. The microstructures of both experimental compositions were characterized and compared with seawater jet impingement test results.

Abstract (sommario):
Compositional Zero-Shot Learning (CZSL) aims to recognize unseen compositions with the knowledge learned from seen compositions, where each composition is composed of two primitives (attribute and object). However, existing CZSL methods are designed to learn compositions from fixed primitive set, which cannot handle the continually expanding primitive set in real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a new CZSL setting, named Continual Compositional Zero-Shot Learning (CCZSL), which requires the model to recognize unseen compositions composed of learned primitive set while continually increasing the size of learned primitive set. Contextuality and catastrophic forgetting are the main issues to be addressed in this setting. Specifically, we capture similar contextuality in compositions through several learnable Super-Primitives that can modify the invariant primitive embedding to better adapt the contextuality in the corresponding composition. Then we introduce a dual knowledge distillation loss which aims at maintaining old knowledge learned from previous sessions and avoiding overfitting of new session. We design the CCZSL evaluation protocol and conduct extensive experiments on widely used benchmarks, demonstrating the superiority of our method compared to the state-of-the-art CZSL methods.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Objectives/Scope Round-robin tests and laboratory audits have demonstrated that reservoir fluid compositions measurements can be systematically uncertain. To reduce compositional uncertainties, this work uses Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to update the existing measured fluid compositions and applies a compositional adjustment anchored on a decreased number of selected fluids representative of the entire compositional space. The resulting composition will reduce uncertainty in exploration and production models and diminish the risks in field development decisions. Methods, Procedures, Process Statistical error propagation analysis of reservoir fluid compositional measurements were completed to identify the parameters that most affect the overall uncertainty of the compositional analysis data. Advanced ML techniques were then used to perform clustering analysis of 800+ unique fluid compositions from legacy PVT reports. Dimensionality reduction exercise and data clustering utilizing the k-means algorithm were employed to identify parameters that best characterize the reservoir fluid properties to be corrected. The sampling candidate wells were identified to obtain new samples for the selected anchor points fluids that will be subjected to detailed fluids characterization. Results, Observations, Conclusions Systematic error propagation analysis demonstrated that, of the 140 independent parameters measured to determine a reservoir fluid composition (to C30+), the plus fraction concentration and molecular weight measurements uncertainties contributed the most towards the overall composition uncertainty for most black oil fluids. After extraction and collation of available reservoir fluid analysis data, a detailed review was completed to eliminate samples with significant mud filtrate contamination, obvious light end weathering and/or other inconsistencies. Once the dataset was validated, the dimensionality reduction task led to 5 principal dimensions space out of 57 initial possible features. The reduced dimension set included two distinct Cn- molar distribution slopes that best correlated the compositions data. Data clustering analysis was performed to identify the cluster centroids in the reduced dimension space. Wells with the closest compositions to cluster centroids were selected for sampling based on this work and the suitability of target wells for sampling. Further, extensive fluid compositions analysis with physical separation processes will be undertaken on the 50 selected anchor point fluids. Novel/Additive Information An original combination of reservoir fluids domain knowledge and advanced ML techniques have been applied to identify candidate wells to sample with the goal to significantly reduce the uncertainty in measured reservoir fluid composition. This unique workflow for composition corrections will help reduce the uncertainty in the critical techno-economic decisions that depend on fluids characterization data in the oil and gas field development domain.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper discusses the use of separator gas and separator oil samples as the primary method used in tight unconventional wells. Separator samples provide direct measurement of surface product compositions and properties, but they are primarily used in the calculation of wellstream composition. Our discussion encompasses a comprehensive and quantitative QC and correction of separator sample compositions, also providing improved accuracy in the estimation of wellstream composition, both for conventional and tight unconventional wells. The standard QC of separator sample compositions assumes that the samples collected should represent equilibrium gas and oil phases at conditions of pressure and temperature in the separator at the time of sampling. The Hoffman-Crump-Hocott method plots the log of component K-value and separator pressure log(Kpsp) versus a component factor F. The Hoffman "KpF" plot should result in a linear trend, with deviations from the linear trend indicating that the sampled phases are not in equilibrium. The problem with this QC method is that it does not provide a method to correct erroneous separator sample compositions. Our paper presents such a correction method for separator gas, separator oil, and wellstream compositions. The proposed method uses the lab-reported wellstream composition based on the sampled gas and oil separator compositions using a recombination ratio computed from the separator gas-oil ratio at the time of sampling, and separator oil molar volume. This wellstream composition is flashed with K-values applicable at separator temperature and pressure, e.g. from the Standing correlation using a Rachford-Rice phase split calculation, or doing a flash with an appropriate equation of state. The resulting flash calculation provides corrected separator gas and separator oil compositions that are more accurate than lab-reported separator gas and oil compositions, and can be used to calculate a corrected wellstream composition using the lab-reported recombination ratio. We have studied the utility of this method for a wide range of wellstream mixtures, separator conditions, and the four potential sources of errors in separator samples: (1) leakage during transportation to the laboratory, (2) samples being collected at different times when pressure-temperature conditions differ for the gas and oil samples, (3) liquid carryover in the separator gas and gas carryover in the separator oil, and (4) gas chromatography errors in laboratory compositional measurements. We show that the proposed method of correcting separator gas, separator oil, and wellstream compositions are accurate for all fluid types and errors that may be found in separator sampling. The approach is consistent with, but not dependent on, the Hoffman KpF method. The method does require K-value estimates at separator conditions, but this is almost always available from the Standing correlation (often used in connection with the Hoffman KpF QC plot) or an available EOS model.

Abstract (sommario):
Mechanical testing was performed to determine the influence of compositional changes on the Young’s modulus and hardness of half-Heusler compounds of the base composition Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01. In the efforts to decrease the thermal conductivity of the composition toward the development of thermoelectric materials with high thermal conversion efficiencies, specimens were fabricated with varying amounts of rhodium and iridium at the cobalt site. In addition to the general Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01 composition, six hot-pressed samples of the Zr0.5Hf0.5CoxRh1−xSb0.99Sn0.01 (0.0≤x≤1.0) composition and four hot-pressed samples of the Zr0.5Hf0.5CoxIr1−xSb0.99Sn0.01 (0.0≤x≤0.7) composition were synthesized. Indentation measurements were obtained using both microhardness testing and depth-sensing nanoindentation. The general Zr0.5Hf0.5CoSb0.99Sn0.01 composition was observed to have a hardness and elastic modulus around 896HV0.2 and 247GPa, respectively. For all of the compositions tested the hardness range was observed to lie between 347HV0.2 and 951HV0.2. The elastic moduli for these compositions were found to range between 97GPa and 247GPa. The effects of the rhodium substitution and iridium substitution at the cobalt site on the elastic stiffness and hardness are examined.

Abstract (sommario):
Since the advent of real-time computer music environments, composers have increasingly incorporated DSP analysis, synthesis, and processing algorithms in their creative practices. Those processes became part of interactive systems that use real-time computational tools in musical compositions that explore diverse techniques to generate, spatialize, and process instrumental/vocal sounds. Parallel to the development of these tools and the expansion of DSP methods, new techniques focused on sound/musical information extraction became part of the tools available for music composition. In this context, this article discusses the creative use of Machine Listening and Musical Information Retrieval techniques applied in the composition of live-electronics works. By pointing out some practical applications and creative approaches, we aim to circumscribe, in a general way, the strategies for employing Machine Listening and Music Information Retrieval techniques observed in a set of live-electronics pieces, categorizing four compositional approaches: namely, mapping, triggering, scoring, and procedural paradigms of application of machine listening techniques in the context of live-electronics music compositions.
