Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe popularity of unity governments to settle both internal political divisions and outright conflict has grown in the last 20 years. However, more often than not unity governments fail to mitigate the political dynamics baked into the political economies and suffer from being insufficiently anchored in local society. The Government of National Unity (GNU) in Zanzibar, formed in 2010 as the culmination of the ‘maridhiano’ political reconciliation process and following numerous attempts at reconciliation led to initial successes, is a case in point. Zanzibar's GNU turned out to be ‘position’ rather than ‘power’ sharing, constitutionalised through a hybrid format of the politics of continuity and collusion. As such the position sharing system broke down when voters in the 2015 election sought neither continuity nor collusion, but transformational change of governance. This was in turn blocked by veto actors in favour of continuity, resulting in the collapse and discontinuation of the GNU in Zanzibar.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the strongest weapons in the armoury of the Roman Catholic Church has always been its impressive sense of historical continuity. Apologists, such as Bishop Bossuet (1627-1704), liked to tease their Protestant adversaries with the question of where in the world their Church had been before Luther and Calvin. The question shows how important the time between ancient Christianity and the Reformation had become in Catholic apologetics since the sixteenth century. Where the Protestants had to admit that a gap of more than a thousand years separated the early Christian communities from the churches of the Reformation, Catholics could proudly point to the fact that in their Church an unbroken line of succession linked the present hierarchy to Christ and the apostles. This continuity seemed the best proof that other churches were human constructs, whereas the Catholic Church continued the mission of Christ and his disciples. In this argument the Middle Ages were essential, but not a time to dwell upon. It was not until the nineteenth century that in the Catholic Church the Middle Ages began to mean far more than proof of the Church’s unbroken continuity.

Abstract (sommario):
Several theories are used by occupational therapists to describe development. These theories differ in form. Some are stage-descriptive; some are characterized by the unity of change and continuity Stage-descriptive theories are described as prejudicial and antithetical to occupational therapy's philosophy and practice. Theories offering change as adaptive-descriptive are deemed more suitable, as they are consistent with occupational therapy philosophy and can serve as structures for generating data on adaptive change in clinical situations.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
In the last stage of development of capitalism, transfers of businesses are frequent. For this purpose, legal systems have regulated procedures to protect creditors and shareholders. In Peruvian legal system, the General Law of Corporations regulates these kinds of transfers through mergers, divisions and reorganizations. However, those operations influence in employment relationships because of the translation of its productive organizations. Even though, there is no regulation to determine the consequences of transfer in these kinds of relations in an organizational way, this legal gap is tend to be solved through the application of the principle of continuity developed by Peruvian jurisprudence. In this short paper, it defines the concept, elements, and the effects of the transfer of an undertaking from the perspective of labor law, giving special attention to the analysis of what the author calls “collateral “ or unwanted effects transfer , as aspects that go beyond the principle of continuity to safeguard labor rights.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):

Blackman, Ingrid Maria. "Geometry and continuity of fine-grained reservoir sandstones deformed within an accretionary prism - Basal Unit, West Woodbourne". Thesis, Texas A&M University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/224.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The Basal Unit of West Woodbourne Field in Barbados is a 250 m thick succession of finely-interbedded sandstones and mudstones deposited by Paleogene, fine-grained, deep-water systems off the northern South American margin and deformed as sediments were translated to the subduction zone of the Caribbean and Atlantic plates. Closely spaced gamma ray, neutron, density, spontaneous potential, formation microimager and dip meter logs, limited core, and published reports of local outcrops, were used to define three scales of vertical stratigraphic variation within this 1.5 km2 field: (1) decimeters to meters thick log facies; (2) meters to tens of meters thick log successions; and (3) tens to hundred meter thick intervals that are continuous laterally across the field. These variations record changes in sediment supply and depositional energy during progradation and abandonment events varying in scale from local shifts in distributary channels to regional changes in sediment transport along the basin. Well log correlations suggest the Basal Unit comprises a turbidite fan system (250 m thick) trending north to northeast, composed of six, vertically-stacked, distributary channel complexes. Three architectural elements are identified within each distributary channel complex: (1) Major amalgamated channels (30-40 m thick, 150-200 m wide and at least 900 m long) pass down depositional dip into proximal second-order channels that bifurcate basinward (15-20 m thick, symmetric successions); (2) Lobe deposits (20-50 m thick, 400 m wide, and at least 400 m long) are composed of upward-coarsening successions that contain distal second-order channels (1-10 m thick); and (3) Laterally extensive overbank deposits (5-10 m thick), which vertically separate distributary channel-lobe complexes. Reservoir heterogeneities within the Basal Unit are defined by the lateral extent and facies variations across a hierarchy of strata within channel-lobe complexes. Although laterally extensive muddy overbank deposits generally inhibit vertical communication between stacked channel-lobe complexes, in places where high-energy first-order channel sandstones incise underlying muddy overbank deposits, sandstones in subsequent intervals are partially connected. The Basal Unit is bounded on the southwest by a northwest-southeast trending fault that rises 30 degrees towards the northwest to define a structural trap on the northeast side of the field.

In this research paper, I try to analyse the prophetic actions of Dom Antonio Ribeiro de Oliveira when he was Metropolitan Archbishop of Goiânia. The dissertation is divided into three chapters, the first presents historical elements of the Archdiocese of Goiânia, starting with the presence of the first colonizers who reached the region. In the second chapter, the theoretical references are presented: biblical and theological foundations and a sociological overview, using classics of sociology of religion, especially works of Otto Maduro. In the third chapter I try to define in detail why certain specific pastoral acts of Dom Antonio can be considered prophetical, using the references exposed in the previous chapter. Finally, in the conclusion I try to prove the hypothesis presented in the beginning. Considering the historical, social and eclesial circumstance of the Archdiocese, which influenced Dom Antonio in his pastoral activity it is possible to affirm that his action can be characterized as prophetic, using the referentials adopted. Those acts also influenced the historical, social and eclesial formation of the society in which he lived and worked as Archbishop.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this thesis is to point out the critical position of University Continuing Education Units in the context of knowledge economy for their contribution to local development, and to analyse to what extent these units in the case of Turkey serve for this function. For this purpose, first, the nature of knowledge economy and transformations initiated in this process in labour markets and in nature of education are analysed. Next, new understanding of lifelong learning and restructuring process in universities, which are connected with transformation in these two fields, are discussed. Later, position of cities and importance of urban policy for local development within the context of knowledge economy is examined. Consequently, as a product of these intertwined transformations, it is revealed that University Continuing Education Units appear to be key actors for cities for their contribution to local development. Then, based on the facts developed in the theoretical arguments
data of University Continuing Education Units of Turkey and Middle East Technical University Continuing Education Center (METU CEC) scrutinised in order to reveal how far these units in Turkey serve for local development. Finally, findings and conclusions are summarised, and policy proposals are developed for University Continuing Education Units should follow in order to serve local development effectively.

Jeffrey, Claudeth. "Fall Prevention in a Neurological Care Unit". ScholarWorks, 2017. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4296.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Patient falls are an ongoing concern for health systems in the US and in the setting where this project took place. Inpatient falls affect consumers and health providers because falls often result in patient morbidity and mortality, legal risk, increased length of stay, and increased costs. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the existing fall prevention protocol at the site where this project took place and to make recommendations for an evidenced-based fall prevention protocol. The professional practice model was the conceptual model that guided the exploratory descriptive project. A review of the site's fall prevention policies and procedures revealed a new fall prevention protocol was in place and included bed alarms, and chair alarms to ring on nurses' phones although observation of nurses revealed that there were problems maintaining the protocol the entire day and 66% of patient falls occurred when the bed alarms were not set. The resulting recommendation was for additional education and a bundled approach with nurse education, patient and family education and a fall risk assessment that was easy to use. Nurses were then surveyed before and after education on the current protocol and the Morse Fall Risk (MFRs) to determine their willingness to use the simpler version for fall risk assessment. Before education 18 nurses confirmed they would use the protocol and MFR tool and all 20 agreed to use it after the education session. An implementation of a bundled approach to the fall prevention protocol that nurses incorporate into their daily practice will lead to a positive social change and as a result may increase patient safety by reducing patient falls.

Abstract (sommario):

James, Veronica. "Care and work in nursing the dying : a participant study of a continuing care unit". Thesis, University of Aberdeen, 1986. http://digitool.abdn.ac.uk:80/webclient/DeliveryManager?pid=215733.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The hospices attempted to offer a way of dying with dignity which would counter the growing lobby for euthenasia legislation by taking account of 'total pain' (mental, social, spiritual, physical). Participation on an NHS/Macmillan Continuing Care Unit indicated that the nurses were committed to giving 'total patient care', but were conscious of their inability to fulfil their principles. They explained their care of the dying in terms of a tension between 'care' and 'work'. The practical outcome of the tension on the terminal care unit is analysed as 'carework'. This emergent nursing practice, where physical care tends to overshadow 'emotional care', is observed in the routines and rituals of the Unit, of which 'normal death' is one example. The two separate social frameworks of 'care' and 'work' reflect a gender division of labour in which 'caring' is commonly domestically based and carried out by women, and 'work' is in the public domain and dominated by men. Public service 'people work' requires that the two frameworks be amalgamated. The tension between 'care' and 'work' is described as a failure of accommodation between the two which is exacerbated by a science based model of illness. It is suggested that these effects combine in a pattern of resistance which opposes the full implementation of hospice movement aims.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper first focuses on morphological history of a landscape unit, consisting of biological deserts and wrecks of the endangered landscape. Secondly, it analyzes and elaborates hydrological scenarios to explore and discuss potential design strategies. Water margin continuity could be recovered through development of flooding strategies. In conclusion, form of the archipelago emerges as a specificity of the landscape unit. More than a metaphor but as a conceptual and programmatic dispositive, archipelago can inform on dynamic structure of the Bassa Friulana complex system within an ecological framework.

A theoretical answer to the controversial issue on the anomalous convective heat transfer in nanofluids has been provided, exploiting the Buongiorno model for convective heat transfer in nanofluids with modifications to fully account for the effects of nanoparticle volume fraction distributions on the continuity, momentum and energy equations. Firstly, a set of exact solutions have been obtained for hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed laminar nanofluid forced convection flows in channels and tubes, subject to constant heat flux. From the solutions, it has been concluded that the anomalous heat transfer rate, exceeding the rate expected from the increase in thermal conductivity, is possible in such cases as titania-water nanofluids in a channel, alumina-water nanofluids in a tube and also titania-water nanofluids in a tube. Moreover, the maximum Nusselt number based on the bulk mean nanofluid thermal conductivity is captured when the ratio of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusivities is around 0.5, which can be exploited for designing nanoparticles for high-energy carriers. Secondly, another set of exact solutions have been obtained for free convection in a vertical channel filled with a nanofluid, exploiting the Buongiorno model with nanoparticle volume fraction modifications. The effects of the bulk mean volume fraction of nanoparticles, the ratio of Brownian and thermophoretic diffusivities and the buoyancy ratio on both velocity and temperature profiles has been investigated in depth for the first time. The volume fraction of nanoparticles increases exponentially towards the cold wall, which makes the velocity and temperature gradients steeper near the hot wall than those near the cold wall. Unlike the case of forced convection, no anomalous heat transfer enhancement has been observed in this case of free convection, so that the Nussult number based on the thermal conductivity of nanofluid stays close to unity as in pure base fluid free convection.

Abstract (sommario):
Non-reacting and reacting flows past typical flameholders are modeled with URANS and LES. The continuity, momentum, energy, species, and turbulence governing equations are solved using two- and three-dimensional configurations. Either 2-step global or 44-step reduced chemical mechanism for C3H8-air combustion, accounting for turbulence-chemistry interaction, and with temperature- and species-dependent thermodynamic and transport properties is utilized. For square and rectangular bluff bodies the flow separates at the leading edges, whereas for triangular bluff body separation occurs only at the trailing edges. These bluff bodies exhibit two shear layers at the trailing edges that shed asymmetric vortices. For rectangular bluff bodies with aspect ratios (AR) less than 2.3 there is backflow from the wake. With increasing AR from unity, backflow is gradually diminished, and the von Ka´rma´n Strouhal number (StvK) decreases. For 2.0<AR<2.3, StvK jumps to a higher value and separation again occurs at the trailing edges for AR = 2.3. Further increase in AR decreases StvK again. The simulations with URANS qualitatively and quantitatively match experimental results for StvK vs. AR. Quantitative discrepancies are, however, found for AR≥2.3. In addition, two-dimensional non-reacting flows with URANS are sufficient to predict StvK. Moreover, two-dimensional simulations of reacting flow indicate that the flame promotes static and dynamic stability for AR = 1.0 and 2.3. The flame is dynamically unstable for AR = 2.0, exhibiting a von Ka´rma´n flow pattern. Stable flames anchored at the most downstream separation location (e.g., the flame anchored at AR = 1.0 is attached to the leading edge, whereas that of AR = 2.3 is attached to the trailing edge). Realizable k-ε URANS and LES simulations for the triangular cylinder closely match the experimental StvK for both non-reacting and reacting flows. Nonetheless, LES predicts a smaller recirculation length than k-ε URANS. LES predicts a flow field in which Be´rnard/von Ka´rma´n (BvK) instability is suppressed, whereas URANS predicts a competition between the Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) instability and BvK.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract A numerical study has been conducted on mixed convection heat transfer enhancement in a long horizontal channel provided with periodically distributed rotating blades. The upper wall of the channel is maintained at a constant low temperature (Tc) while the lower wall is kept hot at a constant high temperature (Th). A series of rotating blades having negligible thickness in comparison to its length is placed periodically along the centerline of the channel with the spacing between two successive blades’ rotational axes being equal to the height of the channel under consideration. The mathematical model of the present problem is governed by two-dimensional laminar transient continuity, momentum and energy equations. The governing equations are transformed to non-dimensional forms and then the moving mesh problem due to blade motion is solved by implementing Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) finite element formulation with triangular discretization scheme. Three different working fluids have been considered such as water, air and liquid Gallium that essentially cover a wide range of Prandtl Number (Pr) from 0.026 to 7.1. The dynamic condition of the rotating blades has been represented by Reynolds Number (Re) that is varied in the range of 1 to 500 and its effect on fluid flow and heat transfer has been investigated for the case of pure mixed convection heat transfer, characterized by Richardson number (Ri) of unity. Numerical results have been presented and analyzed in terms of the distribution of streamline and isotherm patterns, spatially averaged Nusselt number and normalized average Nusselt number variation along the hot wall for different parametric system configurations. The results of the present study show that, presence of rotating blades increases the heat transfer significantly in the channel. Heat transfer increases with increasing Prandtl Number (Pr) and the enhancement becomes more significant at higher Reynolds Numbers (Re).Power Spectrum analysis in frequency domain obtained from the FFT analysis indicates that, the rotating blade oscillation frequency and the oscillation frequency of Nusselt number differ at higher range of Reynolds Number (Re) and Prandtl Number (Pr). Therefore, dynamic condition of the rotating blades together with the thermophysical properties of working fluid play vital role in modulating the heat transfer characteristics and fluid flow behavior within the long horizontal channel.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Formation evaluation in heterogeneous reservoirs can be very challenging especially in fields that extend over several kilometers in area where the permeability varies from 0.1 mD up to 1000 D within the same porosity. The porosity, hydrocarbon saturation and net sand thickness in most of Obaiyed field wells are consistent; hence, the productivity of these wells is enormously dependent on the reservoir permeability. Since the permeability is highly heterogeneous, initial production rate of the wells varies between few MMSCFD to almost one hundred MMSCFD. The huge permeability variation led to a tremendous uncertainty in the dynamic modeling, which resulted in an inaccurate production forecast affecting the field economics estimation. Understanding permeability distribution and heterogeneity in Obaiyed field is the key factor for establishing a realistic permeability model, which will lead to a successful field development strategy. Extensive work was performed to understand key factors that govern the permeability in Obaiyed using the data of 1-kilometer length of cores acquired in more than 50 wells covering different reservoir properties in the field. Core data were used to separate the reservoir into different Hydraulic Flow Units (HFU) according to Amaefule's work performed on the Kozeny-Carmen model. Afterwards, a correlation between the HFU and well logs was established using IPSOM Electro-Facies module in order to define the flow units in un-cored wells. The result of this correlation was used to calibrate a Porosity-Permeability relationship for each flow unit. The next step was examining the clay-type distribution and diagenesis in each flow unit using the petrographic analysis (XRD) results from the core xdata. All factors controlling the permeability can now be represented in hydraulic flow units which are considered as a method of measurement of the reservoir quality. Consequently, property maps were constructed showing the location and continuity of each of the flow units, leading to a more deterministic approach in the well placement process. Based on this new work methodology, a production cut-off criteria relating the reservoir productivity to both clay minerals presence and percentages was established for multiple wells scenarios. As a result, the development strategy of the field changed from only vertical wells to include horizontal wells as well which proved to be the only economic approach to produce the Illite dominated zones. This paper presents a workflow to provide a representative estimation of permeability in extremely heterogeneous reservoirs especially the ones dominated by complex clay distribution.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, the transient motion of a three unit intelligent Pipe Inspection Gauge (PIG) while moving across anomalies and bends inside gas/oil pipeline has been investigated. The pipeline fluid has been considered as isothermal and compressible. In addition, the pipeline itself has also been considered to be flexible. The fluid continuity and momentum equations along with the 3D multi body dynamic equations of motion of the pig comprise a system of coupled dynamic differential equations which have been solved numerically. Pig’s position and velocity profiles as well as upstream and downstream fluid’s pressure waves are presented as simulation results which provide a better understanding of the complex behavior of pig motion through pipelines. This study has been conducted as a part of the design procedure for the Pig which is currently under construction.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, convective heat transfer for fully developed laminar flow in a pin fins array using a two-dimensional periodic model of porous structure has been studied. A macroscopically uniform flow is assumed to pass through an array of circular pin fins placed regularly in an infinite space. Due to periodicity of the model, only one structural unit is taken for a calculation domain to resolve an entire domain of pin fins array. In the structural unit, pin fins surface are maintained at constant temperature, and Continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equations are solved numerically to describe the microscopic velocity and temperature fields at a pore scale. The numerical results thus obtained are integrated over the structural unit to evaluate the dimensionless macroscopic pressure gradient and the thermal diffusivity tensors. Finally, the obtained results compared with available numerical and experimental data.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper explores the political landscape of Belarus in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential elections, with a focus on both domestic and international factors behind the ongoing crisis. Lukashenko’s regime has a long record of sustaining its power by preserving elite unity, controlling elections, and/or using force against opponents. Therefore, massive fraud characterizing the 2020 presidential elections and brutal suppression of peaceful protests in its aftermath came as no surprise. Against this backdrop, the anti-government protests following the presidential elections raised a series of unanswered questions regarding both their domestic and foreign policy implications. The biggest question is whether the Belarusian civil society and opposition will prove powerful enough to overcome state repression and change the status quo in Europe’s “last dictatorship”. Worries remain about the Belarusian opposition’s emphasis on foreign policy continuity, meaning that Belarus is bound to remain in the orbit of the Russian authoritarian influence. The total fiasco of post-Velvet Revolution Armenian government both in terms of domestic and foreign policies, among others, further reveals the excruciating difficulties of a democratic state-building within the Russia-led socio-political order.
