In the last stage of development of capitalism, transfers of businesses are frequent. For this purpose, legal systems have regulated procedures to protect creditors and shareholders. In Peruvian legal system, the General Law of Corporations regulates these kinds of transfers through mergers, divisions and reorganizations. However, those operations influence in employment relationships because of the translation of its productive organizations. Even though, there is no regulation to determine the consequences of transfer in these kinds of relations in an organizational way, this legal gap is tend to be solved through the application of the principle of continuity developed by Peruvian jurisprudence.In this short paper, it defines the concept, elements, and the effects of the transfer of an undertaking from the perspective of labor law, giving special attention to the analysis of what the author calls “collateral “ or unwanted effects transfer , as aspects that go beyond the principle of continuity to safeguard labor rights.
En la última fase de evolución del capitalismo es frecuente el uso de operaciones comerciales de traspaso empresarial, para la cual los ordenamientos jurídicos han regulado procedimientos facilitadores, donde se ha puesto énfasis en la protección de acreedores y de titulares de acciones o participaciones de las sociedades. Así en nuestro ordenamiento jurídico, la Ley General de Sociedades contiene disposiciones que regulan la transmisión de empresa a través de operaciones mercantiles como fusiones, escisiones y reorganizaciones. Sin embargo, estas operaciones inciden también en las relaciones laborales, toda vez que suponen el traspaso de la organización productiva. No hay regulación que determine de forma orgánica las consecuencias de la transmisión de empresa en las relaciones laborales, laguna que ha pretendido ser cubierta a través del principio de continuidad, desarrollado jurisprudencialmente. En este trabajo de corta extensión se delimita el concepto, los elementos, y los efectos de la transmisión de empresa, desde la perspectiva del derecho del Trabajo, dando especial relevancia al análisis de lo que la autora denomina efectos “colaterales” o no deseados del traspaso, como aspectos que superan la aplicación del principio de continuidad para la salvaguarda de derechos laborales.

Il progetto si sviluppa a partire dalla lettura di Berlino come città costituita da parti, una serie di forme urbane, brani di città, ognuno con una propria identità, tuttora chiaramente leggibili. All’interno di questo sistema frammentario è stata effettuata un’analisi più approfondita degli spazi verdi, reinterpretando il Piano per Berlino del paesaggista Peter Joseph Lenné. Egli pone al centro della pianificazione urbana la struttura del verde pubblico, cogliendo il dato di Berlino come città fatta di frammenti. Il nostro progetto individua sul segno del boulevard a nord, disegnato da Lenné, una serie di spazi verdi di diversa natura e di poli aggregativi di rilevanza socio culturale. Il parco diventa un’estensione del polo culturale in cui poter realizzare attività all’aperto: un catalizzatore di vita urbana, luogo di aggregazione per la popolazione. Lo sviluppo di una parte della tesi a Berlino ci ha permesso di conoscere la città e di comprendere a pieno l’importanza che i luoghi di socializzazione, gli spazi condivisi hanno per i berlinesi. Il progetto di un polo culturale, comprendente biblioteca, atelier, laboratori e residenze per artisti, nel quartiere Friedrichshain, si inserisce all’interno del più ampio sistema di parchi e poli aggregativi.

The Basal Unit of West Woodbourne Field in Barbados is a 250 m thick succession of finely-interbedded sandstones and mudstones deposited by Paleogene, fine-grained, deep-water systems off the northern South American margin and deformed as sediments were translated to the subduction zone of the Caribbean and Atlantic plates. Closely spaced gamma ray, neutron, density, spontaneous potential, formation microimager and dip meter logs, limited core, and published reports of local outcrops, were used to define three scales of vertical stratigraphic variation within this 1.5 km2 field: (1) decimeters to meters thick log facies; (2) meters to tens of meters thick log successions; and (3) tens to hundred meter thick intervals that are continuous laterally across the field. These variations record changes in sediment supply and depositional energy during progradation and abandonment events varying in scale from local shifts in distributary channels to regional changes in sediment transport along the basin. Well log correlations suggest the Basal Unit comprises a turbidite fan system (250 m thick) trending north to northeast, composed of six, vertically-stacked, distributary channel complexes. Three architectural elements are identified within each distributary channel complex: (1) Major amalgamated channels (30-40 m thick, 150-200 m wide and at least 900 m long) pass down depositional dip into proximal second-order channels that bifurcate basinward (15-20 m thick, symmetric successions); (2) Lobe deposits (20-50 m thick, 400 m wide, and at least 400 m long) are composed of upward-coarsening successions that contain distal second-order channels (1-10 m thick); and (3) Laterally extensive overbank deposits (5-10 m thick), which vertically separate distributary channel-lobe complexes. Reservoir heterogeneities within the Basal Unit are defined by the lateral extent and facies variations across a hierarchy of strata within channel-lobe complexes. Although laterally extensive muddy overbank deposits generally inhibit vertical communication between stacked channel-lobe complexes, in places where high-energy first-order channel sandstones incise underlying muddy overbank deposits, sandstones in subsequent intervals are partially connected. The Basal Unit is bounded on the southwest by a northwest-southeast trending fault that rises 30 degrees towards the northwest to define a structural trap on the northeast side of the field.

In this research paper, I try to analyse the prophetic actions of Dom Antonio Ribeiro de Oliveira when he was Metropolitan Archbishop of Goiânia. The dissertation is divided into three chapters, the first presents historical elements of the Archdiocese of Goiânia, starting with the presence of the first colonizers who reached the region. In the second chapter, the theoretical references are presented: biblical and theological foundations and a sociological overview, using classics of sociology of religion, especially works of Otto Maduro. In the third chapter I try to define in detail why certain specific pastoral acts of Dom Antonio can be considered prophetical, using the references exposed in the previous chapter. Finally, in the conclusion I try to prove the hypothesis presented in the beginning. Considering the historical, social and eclesial circumstance of the Archdiocese, which influenced Dom Antonio in his pastoral activity it is possible to affirm that his action can be characterized as prophetic, using the referentials adopted. Those acts also influenced the historical, social and eclesial formation of the society in which he lived and worked as Archbishop.
Neste trabalho de pesquisa, buscou-se analisar as ações proféticas de Dom Antonio Ribeiro de Oliveira, enquanto arcebispo metropolitano da Arquidiocese de Goiânia. Dividida em três capítulos, a dissertação traz, no primeiro, elementos históricos dessa Arquidiocese, partindo da presença dos primeiros colonizadores que foram ocupando a região. No segundo, o referencial teórico: as mediações bíblico-teológicas e a ótica sociológica, valendo-se de clássicos da sociologia da religião e, particularmente, de Otto Maduro. No terceiro capítulo buscou-se definir, com detalhes, determinadas ações pastorais de Dom Antonio, e por que estas podem ser consideradas proféticas, valendo-se do referencial trabalhado do capítulo anterior. Por fim, na conclusão procurouse comprovar a hipótese apresentada inicialmente. E considerando as circunstâncias histórico-social e eclesial da Arquidiocese que influenciaram Dom Antonio em suas atividades pastorais e a partir do referencial adotado, pode-se afirmar que ações suas caracterizam-se como proféticas. Como tais, essas ações influenciaram também na formação histórico-social e eclesial da sociedade em que viveu e atuou como Arcebispo.

The aim of this thesis is to point out the critical position of University Continuing Education Units in the context of knowledge economy for their contribution to local development, and to analyse to what extent these units in the case of Turkey serve for this function. For this purpose, first, the nature of knowledge economy and transformations initiated in this process in labour markets and in nature of education are analysed. Next, new understanding of lifelong learning and restructuring process in universities, which are connected with transformation in these two fields, are discussed. Later, position of cities and importance of urban policy for local development within the context of knowledge economy is examined. Consequently, as a product of these intertwined transformations, it is revealed that University Continuing Education Units appear to be key actors for cities for their contribution to local development. Then, based on the facts developed in the theoretical arguments
data of University Continuing Education Units of Turkey and Middle East Technical University Continuing Education Center (METU CEC) scrutinised in order to reveal how far these units in Turkey serve for local development. Finally, findings and conclusions are summarised, and policy proposals are developed for University Continuing Education Units should follow in order to serve local development effectively.

Patient falls are an ongoing concern for health systems in the US and in the setting where this project took place. Inpatient falls affect consumers and health providers because falls often result in patient morbidity and mortality, legal risk, increased length of stay, and increased costs. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the existing fall prevention protocol at the site where this project took place and to make recommendations for an evidenced-based fall prevention protocol. The professional practice model was the conceptual model that guided the exploratory descriptive project. A review of the site's fall prevention policies and procedures revealed a new fall prevention protocol was in place and included bed alarms, and chair alarms to ring on nurses' phones although observation of nurses revealed that there were problems maintaining the protocol the entire day and 66% of patient falls occurred when the bed alarms were not set. The resulting recommendation was for additional education and a bundled approach with nurse education, patient and family education and a fall risk assessment that was easy to use. Nurses were then surveyed before and after education on the current protocol and the Morse Fall Risk (MFRs) to determine their willingness to use the simpler version for fall risk assessment. Before education 18 nurses confirmed they would use the protocol and MFR tool and all 20 agreed to use it after the education session. An implementation of a bundled approach to the fall prevention protocol that nurses incorporate into their daily practice will lead to a positive social change and as a result may increase patient safety by reducing patient falls.

Premier département français libéré, seule région où le Front national a su imposer son hégémonie sur les autres mouvements clandestins, la Corse présente un cas singulier dans l'histoire de la Résistance française. Longtemps limitée à ses aspects idéologiques et politiques sur lesquels le poids d'une mémoire instrumentalisée a pesé dès la Libération, l'étude du phénomène résistant en Corse mérite une relecture. Par une approche dichotomique (continuité/rupture), la Résistance peut être analysée dans ses liens avec la société insulaire afin de comprendre comment elle s'insère dans le corps social. Cette démarche permet de souligner ses spécificités et ses points communs avec d'autres régions méditerranéennes. Perçue comme un phénomène politique mais aussi social, culturel et anthropologique, la Résistance apparaît comme le reflet d'une société corse marquée par des traits traditionnels et des mutations novatrices fondatrices de son identité et expliquant le poids de la mémoire résistante.

The hospices attempted to offer a way of dying with dignity which would counter the growing lobby for euthenasia legislation by taking account of 'total pain' (mental, social, spiritual, physical). Participation on an NHS/Macmillan Continuing Care Unit indicated that the nurses were committed to giving 'total patient care', but were conscious of their inability to fulfil their principles. They explained their care of the dying in terms of a tension between 'care' and 'work'. The practical outcome of the tension on the terminal care unit is analysed as 'carework'. This emergent nursing practice, where physical care tends to overshadow 'emotional care', is observed in the routines and rituals of the Unit, of which 'normal death' is one example. The two separate social frameworks of 'care' and 'work' reflect a gender division of labour in which 'caring' is commonly domestically based and carried out by women, and 'work' is in the public domain and dominated by men. Public service 'people work' requires that the two frameworks be amalgamated. The tension between 'care' and 'work' is described as a failure of accommodation between the two which is exacerbated by a science based model of illness. It is suggested that these effects combine in a pattern of resistance which opposes the full implementation of hospice movement aims.

The aim of this study was to investigate unit managers views on staff continuity within municipal home care services to get a wider understanding regarding the organization’s work with staff continuity, which action dilemmas the unit managers encounter and how they handle these. The study was conducted by qualitative research through semi-structured interviews with six unit managers in one middle-sized municipality in Sweden. The results showed a diverseness in working methods regarding staff continuity between the home care services in the municipality. It was also concluded that the home care services are guided by goals and guidelines regarding staff continuity which the unit managers finds unclear and undeveloped. The conclusion highlights that the unit managers finds themselves in a position where the care users needs and requests of a staff continuity does not always match the conditions and regulations within the organization. Lastly the results showed that this position causes the unit managers to make priorities in the work for staff continuity. It can be concluded that the unit managers either finds themselves adjusting to the organizations conditions or regulations or they find solutions to meet the request and needs from the care users regarding staff continuity.

The purpose of this research study was to investigate the phenomenon of the conflicting roles, such as parent, spouse, employee, caregiver, and community member/volunteer, associated with the lives of nontraditional college students and to reveal how these conflicting role obligations influence these students' persistence toward the attainment of an undergraduate degree. This study provides a brief history of adult education in the United States as well as the study context, a continuing studies division of a privately endowed research institution located in the southern United States. The participants in this study were nontraditional students who were also recent graduates of this continuing studies unit. This study drew upon the literature of nontraditional students in higher education, as well as literature on role theory, adult development theory, adult learning theory, and student persistence theory. This study used a phenomenological qualitative approach as a means of discovering the lived experiences of nontraditional students as these experiences relate to the conflicting roles of nontraditional students and their decision to persist toward the attainment of a bachelor's degree. Several important findings were discovered. In order to negotiate their conflicting roles, these students used several strategies as a means of helping them to balance their roles. This study also found several motivational factors that prompted nontraditional students to pursue a bachelor's degree at this time in their lives. The obstacles and challenges that these students confronted were also revealed, and in order to overcome these obstacles and challenges these students relied on several support systems. The reputation and prestige of this university was also found to be an important factor in the students' decision to attend college at this stage in their lives. Additionally, the various forms of assistance that this continuing studies unit provided encouraged students to persist.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 29.1 million people in the United States have diabetes. Among those 29.1 million people, 21 million have been diagnosed, but 8.1 million have not. Changing demographics in the United States and the prevalence of diabetes are projected to be burdens on the health care system through 2050. Guided by the social cognitive theory, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to understand the importance of culturally appropriate patient-provider communication to the self-management of Type 2 diabetes by patients who are African immigrants. Culturally based health care has unique challenges when delivering culturally appropriate diabetes care, so a focus on cultural knowledge, intercultural patient-provider communication skills, and cultural assessment were key to this case study. One pilot study was conducted to test the focus group questions with 3 diabetes providers (i.e., certified nurse diabetes educator [CDE], registered nutritionist, and dietitian) who help patients to self-manage their diabetes. The second pilot study was conducted with 5 African immigrant patients who had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The primary focus groups were conducted with 5 CDEs and 10 patients. The transcribed responses were analyzed and categorized to identify the 17 themes that emerged (9 from the CDEs and 8 from the patients). One implication for social change is that a patient-centered approach to patient-provider communication will mean better health outcomes. To ensure culturally appropriate patient-provider communication, a change in health care delivery is required to incorporate cultural constructs as part of diabetes care and education to accommodate various ethnic and racial groups.

Historically, many higher education institutions have been structurally and culturally compartmentalised and subunits such as continuing education have been marginalised, merged or divested. In response to a variety of external phenomena, some higher education institutions are re-examining their internal and external relationships, including the relationship between their academic and continuing education units. This research examines the efforts of a higher education institution in the United Arab Emirates to improve its overall effectiveness by changing the nature of the relationship between its academic and continuing education units. A review of theory- and practice-based higher education, organisational culture and inter-/intra-organisational relationship literature revealed significant support for each partner's goals for the new relationship and was used to provide the parties with a series of recommendations for successful formulation, actualisation and governance. These results add to the literature and practice of higher education and continuing higher education, particularly in the area of relationship-building among organisational subunits and subcultures.

Cada vegada som més conscients del destriament existent entre l’ésser humà i la naturalesa. La reducció d’aquesta a un trivial objecte ha generat, en els últims temps, una constatació inexorable: l’existència de la humanitat està nítidament amenaçada. Schelling, en la flor de la seva joventut i fa més de dos segles, va ser, sens dubte, el pensador modern que va detectar el conflicte existent entre un estil de filosofia capaç d’erigir la subjectivitat humana al nivell més elevat de l’activitat del pensar, reduint la naturalesa a puro i inert objecte. El present treball de recerca té com a objectiu fonamental recórrer l’itinerari de la producció filosòfica schellinguiana en allò que nomenarem gènesi de la seva pròpia filosofia: la Filosofia de la Naturalesa. La intrèpida pretensió de Schelling de concebre la Naturalesa com a Subjecte va possibilitar, en definitiva, una nova lectura del “ésser-del-món” i la seva real situació com “l’ésser-al-món”. Tal perspicàcia marcaria la trajectòria d’aquest jove filòsof en el desenvolupament de la seva Filosofia com a Sistema. L’anàlisi de la filosofia de la naturalesa constitueix, així, una via de cabdal importància per percebre els aspectes de la continuïtat d’aquest estil de pensar en vista d’allò que cridarem Filosofia de la Unitat. Així que –i després d’una anàlisi acurada sobre els principis que constitueixen la realitat de la naturalesa en els seus fonaments–, Schelling proposa una nova concepció de la naturalesa, en la qual la idea d’Organisme emergeix com una condició necessària per sostenir l’activitat permanent, creativa i totalment lliure d’ella mateixa, és a dir, el procés de la productivitat de la naturalesa. Consisteix a contraposar –a través del mètode especulatiu– aquesta dinamicitat present en la naturalesa a la noció predominant de la seva època, és a dir, la visió mecanicista de la naturalesa. Al final d’aquesta recerca, ens vam adonar que l’esforç de la tasca filosòfica schellinguiana pel que fa a la filosofia de la naturalesa ofereix, en última instància, un altre concepte de la realitat factual i, necessàriament, ens porta a una nova hermenèutica, la notorietat de la qual està marcada per la composició naturalesa-ètica.
Cada vez somos más conscientes de la cisión existente entre el ser humano y la naturaleza. La reducción de esta a un trivial objeto ha generado, en los últimos tiempos, una constatación inexorable: la existencia de la humanidad está nítidamente amenazada. Schelling, en la flor de su juventud y hace más de dos siglos, fue, sin duda, el pensador moderno que detectó el conflicto existente entre un estilo de filosofía capaz de erigir la subjetividad humana al nivel más elevado de la actividad del pensar, reduciendo la naturaleza a puro e inerte objeto. El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo fundamental recorrer el itinerario de la producción filosófica schellinguiana en aquello que nombraremos génesis de su propia filosofía: la Filosofía de la Naturaleza. La intrépida pretensión de Schelling de concebir la Naturaleza como Sujeto posibilitó, en definitiva, una nueva lectura del “ser-del-mundo” y su real situación como “ser-en-el-mundo”. Tal perspicacia marcaría la trayectoria de este joven filósofo en el desarrollo de su Filosofía como Sistema. El análisis de la filosofía de la naturaleza constituye, así, una vía de capital importancia para percibir los aspectos de la continuidad de este estilo de pensar en vista de aquello que llamaremos Filosofía de la Unidad. Así que –y después de un análisis cuidadoso acerca de los principios que constituyen la realidad de la naturaleza en sus fundamentos–, Schelling propone una nueva concepción de la naturaleza, en la cual la idea de Organismo emerge como una condición necesaria para sostener la actividad permanente, creativa y totalmente libre de la misma, es decir, el proceso de la productividad de la naturaleza. Consiste en contraponer –a través del método especulativo– esa dinamicidad presente en la naturaleza a la noción predominante de su época, es decir, la visión mecanicista de la naturaleza. Every day we grow more and more conscious of the gulf that lies between humans and nature. In recent times, the reduction of this gulf to a trivial object has brought forth an unavoidable observation: mankind’s existence is clearly in danger. In the prime of his youth over two hundred years ago, Schelling was, without a doubt, the preeminent modern thinker to detect the conflict that existed within a style of philosophy that was capable of raising human subjectivity to the highest level of thinking, reducing nature to a pure and inert object. The main goal of this research paper is to cover the route through which Schelling’s corpus of philosophy took place, wherein we will proclaim the genesis of his own philosophy: the Philosophy of Nature. Schelling’s daring aspiration to conceive of Nature as a Subject ultimately made it possible to have a new reading of the “being-of-the-world” and his actual situation as a “being-in-the-world”. Such discernment would mark this young philosopher’s career in the development of his Philosophy as a System. The analysis of the philosophy of nature therefore constitutes a very important way to perceive the aspects of the continuity of this manner of thinking in view of that which we call Philosophy of the Unit. Therefore –and after a careful analysis of the principles that make up the reality of nature in its foundations– Schelling proposed a new conception of nature, one in which the idea of the Organism emerges as a necessary condition in order to sustain ongoing, creative and totally free activity, i.e., the process of the productivity of nature. This consists in comparing –through the speculative method– that dynamism present in nature with the predominant notion of his time, i.e., the mechanical view of nature. In the final part of this research, we make note of the fact that the force of Schelling’s philosophical work with regards to the philosophy of nature ultimately offers another concept of factual reality and necessarily brings us to a new hermeneutic space, the notoriety of which is marked by the composition of nature–ethics.

A redução desta a um trivial objeto gerou, nos últimos tempos, uma constatação inexorável: a existência da humanidade está nitidamente ameaçada. Schelling, em plena juventude e há mais de dois séculos foi, sem dúvida, o pensador moderno que detectou o conflito existente entre um estilo de filosofia capaz de erigir a subjetividade humana ao nível mais elevado da atividade pensante, reduzindo a natureza a puro e inerte objeto. Esse trabalho de investigação tem como objetivo fundamental recorrer o itinerário da produção filosófica schellinguiana naquilo que denominaremos de gênese de sua própria filosofia: a Filosofia da Natureza. A ousada pretensão de Schelling de conceber a Natureza como Sujeito possibilitou, definitivamente, uma nova leitura do “ser- do-mundo” e sua real situação como “ser-no-mundo”. Tal perspicácia marcaria a trajetória desse jovem filósofo na elaboração de sua Filosofia como Sistema. A análise da filosofia da natureza constitui, desse modo, uma via de singular importância para perceber os aspectos da continuidade desse estilo de pensar em vista daquilo que denominaremos de Filosofia da Unidade. Para isso – e após uma análise séria dos principais elementos que constituem a realidade da natureza em seus fundamentos –, Schelling propõe uma nova concepção de natureza, na qual a ideia de Organismo emerge como critério necessário para sustentar a atividade permanente, criativa e totalmente livre da mesma, ou seja, o processo de produtividade da natureza. Die Entzweiung von Mensch und Natur wird uns immer deutlicher bewusst. Die Reduzierung der Natur auf ein triviales Objekt hat in jüngster Zeit zu einer schmerzlichen Feststellung geführt: die Menschheit ist in ihrer Existenz ganz offensichtlich gefährdet. In der Blüte seiner Jugend war Schelling vor über zweihundert Jahren zweifellos der moderne Denker, der den in einer philosophischen Richtung liegenden Konflikt erkannte, welche die menschliche Subjektivität auf die höchste Ebene des Denkens stellt und die Natur dabei auf ein reines inaktives Objekt reduziert. Wesentliches Ziel dieser Forschungsarbeit ist es, den Weg der schellingschen philosophischen Produktion zu dem, was wir die Genese seiner eigenen Philosophie nennen, nachzuzeichnen: der Naturphilosophie. Das unerschrockene Bestreben Schellings, die Natur als Subjekt zu begreifen, ermöglichte letztendlich eine neue Lesart des „Von-der- Welt-Seins“ und seiner realen Situation als „In-der-Welt-Sein“. Diese Scharfsicht sollte den Weg dieses jungen Philosophen bei der Entwicklung seiner Philosophie als System bestimmen. Die Untersuchung der Naturphilosophie ist somit ein äußerst wichtiges Verfahren, um die Aspekte der Kontinuität dieser Denkweise im Hinblick auf das zu begreifen, was wir Philosophie der Einheit nennen werden. Damit schlägt Schelling – nach einer eingehenden Untersuchung der Prinzipien, welche der Realität der Natur zugrunde liegen – eine neue Konzeption der Natur vor, in der die Idee des Organismus als einer notwendigen Bedingung für die Aufrechterhaltung von deren ständiger kreativer und völlig freier Tätigkeit erscheint; er meint den Prozess der Produktivität der Natur. Er setzt – über die spekulative Methode – diese in der Natur vorhandene Dynamik der in seiner Epoche vorherrschenden Auffassung einer mechanistischen Sicht der Natur, entgegen. Am Ende dieser Untersuchung wurde uns bewusst, dass das Bemühen der schellingschen Philosophie im Hinblick auf die Naturphilosophie in letzter Instanz einen anderen Begriff der faktischen Realität bietet und uns notwendigerweise zu einer neuen Hermeneutik führt, deren Bedeutung auf der Verbindung von Natur–Ethik beruht.

Na atualidade, a educação permanente do enfermeiro pode ser potencializada se oferecida online, em especial, numa temática em que há escassez de conhecimento e materiais educativos. Assim, sentimo-nos motivadas em oferecer um curso pela internet que seja capaz de atualizar enfermeiros de unidades neonatais sobre o ambiente sensorial de bebês pré-termo. O estudo teve como objetivos descrever o processo de desenvolvimento de um curso de atualização online junto aos enfermeiros acerca do ambiente sensorial da unidade neonatal com enfoque no ruído, manipulação e luminosidade e avaliar a aprendizagem cognitiva do enfermeiro neonatal no curso de atualização online. O projeto foi desenvolvido em duas fases: 1 - desenvolvimento do curso de atualização online; 2 - avaliação da aprendizagem cognitiva influenciada pelo curso. A fase 1 tratou-se de um estudo metodológico no qual foi desenvolvido um curso de atualização online com duração total de 30 horas, disponibilizado em um ambiente virtual de aprendizagem e contou com o auxílio de tecnologias educacionais digitais. A fase 2 foi realizada por meio de uma pesquisa quase-experimental envolvendo intervenção educacional (curso desenvolvido) e avaliação de pré e pós-teste para comparação de desempenho cognitivo dos participantes sob influência do curso online. Foram convidados a participar do estudo enfermeiros que trabalham nas Unidades de Cuidado Intermediário Neonatal (UCIN) e Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (UTIN) do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (HCFMRP/USP) e UCIN do Centro de Referência em Saúde da Mulher de Ribeirão Preto - MATER. A coleta de dados ocorreu no período de 11/09/2017 a 02/10/2017. Utilizou-se análise descritiva com apresentação de frequências para os dados qualitativos e média, mediana e desvio padrão para as variáveis quantitativas. Para análise de impacto do curso na aprendizagem dos 22 enfermeiros participantes utilizou-se o teste estatístico não paramétrico de Wilcoxon. A avaliação de desempenho foi realizada a partir da diferença entre a pontuação obtida pelo participante no pós-teste em relação à pontuação do pré-teste. Os dados foram tabulados e testados através do programa SPSS 18 e o nível de significância nas análises foi de 5%. A diferença entre o pos e pré-teste, para a avaliação do conhecimento cognitivo proporcionado pelo curso de atualização, resultou em p<0,001, demonstrando que houve diferença estatísticamente significante e que, portanto, houve aprendizagem cognitiva dos enfermeiros que participaram do curso de atualização online auxiliado pelas tecnologias educacionais digitais
Currently, nurses\' continuing education can be enriched if offered online, especially in subjects lacking knowledge and educational tools. Therefore, we were motivated to offer an online course that would be able to update nurses of neonatal units on the sensory environment of preterm infants. The aims of the study were: to describe the process of developing an online update course with nurses about the sensory environment of the neonatal unit focusing on noise, manipulation and luminosity and to evaluate the cognitive learning of neonatal nurses after the online update course. The study had two phases: 1 - development of the online update course; 2 - evaluation of the cognitive learning generated by the course. Phase 1 was a methodological study in which a 30 hours online update course was created with the incorporation of digital educational technologies and made available in a virtual learning platform. Phase 2 was performed through a quasi-experimental methodology involving educational intervention through the online course and a pre and post cognitive performance test to evaluate participants\' progress due to the online course. Nurses working at the Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo and the Neonatal Intermediate Care Units of the Reference Center on Women\'s Health of Ribeirão Preto - MATER. Data collection was from 9/11/2017 to 10/2/2017. Descriptive analysis with frequency distribution was used for the qualitative data and mean, median and standard deviation for the quantitative variables. Wilcoxon nonparametric statistical test was used in the analysis of the course learning impact and in the intra-group comparisons to assess the acquired cognitive knowledge of the 22 enrolled nurses. The performance evaluation was based on the difference between the score obtained in the post-test and the pre-test. The data were tabulated and tested with SPSS 18 and the level of significance was set at 5%. The evaluation of the cognitive knowledge provided by the update course measured by the difference between the pos and pretest was statistically significant difference (p<0.001). Therefore, the update online course with digital educational technologies was able to generate cognitive learning by nurses enrolled

Da sempre si è ritenuto che Parmenide affermasse l'unità dell'Essere. Nel corso del '900 si è però iniziato a dubitare di tale attributo. Nella prima parte della tesi ho analizzato le varie interpretazioni critiche che sono state date a tal proposito e ho cercato di mostrare come, col tempo, si sia sempre più abbandonata l'idea di un monismo assoluto per abbracciare l'idea di un'unità che fosse in rapporto con i molti. Questa revisione si è spesso accompagnata ad una rivalutazione della fisica Parmenidea esposta nella seconda parte del Poema. In particolar modo mi sono concentrato sulle letture di metà '900 (Verdenius, Calogero, Untersteiner), predicazioni (Kahn, Mourelatos, Curd) e fisiche più recenti (Ruggiu, Casertano, Cerri, Palmer). Nella seconda parte della tesi ho invece analizzato i frammenti in cui i vari storici della filosofia hanno intravisto la possibilità di argomentazioni pro o contro determinate concezioni di monismo. Mi sono dedicato quindi all'analisi critica del frammento 4 e del frammento 8 (versi 4, 5-6, 12-13, 22-25, 36-37, 38, 53-54). In questa analisi ho cercato di portare elementi a sostegno della teoria da me sostenuta per cui Parmenide affermerebbe l'uni-molteplicità, cioè che il soggetto parmenideo è il Cosmo, la Realtà intera, il Tutto che ingloba dentro di sé il molteplice sensibile. La tesi si chiude con un'appendice dedicata ai riferimenti platonici sul tema dell'unità in Parmenide.
It has always been believed that Parmenides affirmed the unity of Being. During the 20th century, however, some scholars began to doubt this attribute. In the first part of the thesis I analyzed the various critical interpretations that have been given in this regard and I tried to show how, over time, the idea of ​​an absolute monism was increasingly abandoned to embrace the idea of ​​a unity that was in relationship with the many. This revision was often accompanied by a re-evaluation of the Parmenidea physics exposed in the second part of the Poem. In particular, I focused on the mid-1900s readings (Verdenius, Calogero, Untersteiner), predicational interpretations (Kahn, Mourelatos, Curd) and more recent physics readings (Ruggiu, Casertano, Cerri, Palmer). In the second part of the thesis I have analyzed the fragments in which the various historians of philosophy have seen the possibility of arguments for or against certain conceptions of monism. Then I made a critical analysis of the fragments 4 and 8 (verses 4, 5-6, 12-13, 22-25, 36-37, 38, 53-54). In this analysis I have tried to bring elements to support the theory supported by me for which Parmenides would affirm the uni-totality, i.e. that the Parmenides poem's subject is the Cosmos, the whole Reality, the Whole that incorporates the sensitive manifold. The thesis terminates with an appendix dedicated to the Platonic references on the theme of unity in Parmenides.

This companion dissertation reports the findings of applied case study research on four community college organizational units that consistently meet or exceed standard performance measures. In addition, prior ample evidence confirms that performance extended significantly beyond what might be explained by available tangible resources alone. The case study contexts are common in higher education in general: a) an external partnership, (b) an ad hoc team, (c) a traditional, cross-divisional service unit, and (d) a grant-funded student service unit. Emerging positive organizational theory and research show promise for revealing performance-influencing phenomena and behaviors that are not adequately represented in standard measures. Therefore, this collaborative case study research was designed to explore positive influences on the success of the four community college units. This companion dissertation contains four manuscripts. Chapter 1 presents an introduction to the study. Chapter 2 contains a collectively written synthesis of the findings from the four individual case studies. Chapter 3 reflects individual research on a partnership that serves as a national model for adult education. Chapter four offers an alternative perspective to developing authentic leaders in community colleges. Key findings across the units suggest the influence on performance of: (a) a people-first culture, (b) authentic, trusting, inclusive leadership, and (c) resource richness beyond constrained tangible resources. Practical recommendations for scholars and practitioners are offered.

A humanização em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) é um assunto amplamente debatido e as experiências vivenciadas neste espaço evidenciam a falta de preparo por parte da equipe multidisciplinar ao tratar o familiar como uma unidade de cuidado e a escassez de práticas humanizadoras na assistência. Elaborar estratégias de humanização e revelar pela ótica dos familiares e da equipe multidisciplinar o conceito de humanização. Estudo observacional, descritivo e exploratório, com abordagem mista. As entrevistas foram realizadas em uma UTI adulto de um hospital privado da cidade de Caxias do Sul-RS, no período de janeiro a junho de 2016, partindo das seguintes questões norteadoras: “considerando a experiência vivenciada, o que significa humanizar em uma UTI?” e “quais são suas sugestões para tornar a UTI mais humanizada?”. As análises dos dados obtidos através destes questionamentos apontam para aspectos fundamentais na assistência ao paciente crítico. Considerando a concepção de humanização, ambos grupos relacionaram a empatia, acolhimento e respeito a individualidade do paciente como fundamentais para uma assistência humanizada. Quanto às sugestões, a equipe multidisciplinar elencou a comunicação, capacitação da equipe, condições de trabalho e o estreitamento da relação equipe/paciente/família. Destas sugestões duas foram citadas também pelos familiares dos pacientes internados: comunicação e capacitação da equipe para uniformidade dos processos. Algumas estratégias foram elaboradas por meio dos dados obtidos: a reorganização da sistemática de atendimento ao familiar na visita, a flexibilização e visita estendida após avaliação da equipe multidisciplinar, a hora da informação, implantação de um grupo de trabalho hospitalar e rodas de conversa para os funcionários. A humanização é algo intrínseco, dada a nossa condição de humanos, mas atualmente, os processos de trabalho das instituições de saúde ainda são focados somente para procedimentos, protocolos e centrados no modelo biomédico o que acarreta lacunas entre a humanização e a prática.
The humanization in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a widely debated issue and the experiences lived in this unit show the lack of preparation by the multidisciplinary team to treat the family as a unit of care and the shortage of humanizing practices in the assistance. To develop humanization strategies and reveal the perspective of the family and the multidisciplinary team the concept of humanization. Observational, descriptive and exploratory study, with mixed approach. The interviews were conducted in an adult ICU of a private hospital in the city of Caxias do Sul-RS, in the period of January to June 2016, based on the following guiding questions: "considering the lived experience, what does it mean humanize in an ICU?"and " what are your suggestions to make the ICU more humanized?". The analysis of the data obtained through these questions pointed to fundamental aspects of assistance for the critical patient. Considering the conception of humanization, both groups related the empathy, reception and respect to the individuality of the patient as essential for a humanized assistance. As for suggestions, the multidisciplinary team outlined the communication, team training, working conditions and the strengthening of the staff / patient / family relationship. From these suggestions, two were also mentioned by family members of the hospitalized patients: communication and staff training for uniformity of processes. Some strategies were prepared over the data obtained: the reorganization of the systematic of attendance to the relative in the visit, the flexibility and extended visit after evaluation of the multidisciplinary team, the time of the information, the implementation of a hospital working group and conversation circles for employees. The humanization is something intrinsic, given our condition as humans, but currently, the work processes of healthcare institutions are still focused only to procedures, protocols and focused on the biomedical model which causes gaps between the humanization and the practice.

As infecções hospitalares são um importante evento adverso durante a hospitalização do paciente, aumentando não só a morbi-mortalidade, mas o tempo de ventilação mecânica, de internação na terapia intensiva e no hospital, o número de complicações e os custos hospitalares. A pneumonia associada à ventilação mecânica (PAV) é comum em pacientes internados em terapia intensiva e pode ser evitada através da adoção de conjunto de medidas preventivas pela equipe multidisciplinar durante todo o período de intubação do paciente até sua extubação. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a taxa de PAV com a caracterização dos microrganismos, o impacto das medidas educativas sobre esta taxa e a duração deste impacto. Foi realizado estudo prospectivo na unidade de terapia intensiva (UTI) pediátrica através da educação continuada com 49 profissionais não médicos, envolvidos na assistência ao paciente e ele foi desenvolvido em três fases: fase 1. Caracterização epidemiológica e perfil das infecções; fase 2. Intervenção educacional sobre as medidas de prevenção de pneumonias associadas à ventilação mecânica para os profissionais e fase 3. Avaliação e impacto das medidas preventivas. Os dados demográficos foram descritos em termos de porcentagens para as variáveis qualitativas e através de mediana para as variáveis quantitativas. Para a comparação das variáveis quantitativas e qualitativas entre a fase 1 e 3 foram utilizados os testes Kruskal-Wallis e Qui-Quadrado respectivamente e o teste Mann Whitney para a comparação da mediana do escore prognóstico PRISM. A densidade da incidência de PAV e a taxa de utilização da ventilação mecânica (VM) para estes dois períodos foi calculada e comparada através do teste Qui-Quadrado sendo considerado diferença significante p < 0,05. Os profissionais treinados tinham em média 3 anos de experiência em UTI e o perfil epidemiológico dos pacientes foi homogêneo nas fases do estudo. A disfunção de múltiplos órgãos e sistemas na admissão e incidência de PAV tiveram significância estatística entre os dois períodos com p=0,013 e p=0,001 respectivamente. A incidência da PAV diminuiu de 12,95/1000 dias de VM na fase pré treinamento para 3,43/1000 dias de VM na fase pós treinamento. Hospital-acquired infections are an important and adverse event during hospital stay, increasing not only the morbidity and mortality, but also the time of mechanical ventilation (MV), hospital stay in intensive care unit (ICU), number of complications and hospital costs. The ventilatorassociated pneumonia (VAP) is common in patients admitted to intensive care and can be avoided through the adoption of preventive measures set by the multidisciplinary team throughout the period of intubation of the patient until his extubation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the rate of VAP with the characterization of organisms, the impact of educational measures on the rate and duration of this impact. A prospective study was conducted in the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) through continuing education with 49 non-medical professionals, involved in patient care and it was developed in three phases: phase 1. Characterization and epidemiologic profile of infections; phase 2. Educational intervention on measures of preventing VAP for professionals and phase 3. Evaluation and impact of preventive measures. Demographic data were described in terms of percentages for qualitative variables and through median for the quantitative variables. To compare the quantitative and qualitative variables between phase I and III we used the Kruskal-Wallis test and the chi - square test, respectively, and the Mann-Whitney test to compare the median of PRISM prognostic score. VAP incidence density and MV utilization rate for these two periods (phases I and III) were calculated and compared using the chi- square test, and p < 0.05 was considered as a significant difference. The trained professionals had an average of 3 years of experience in ICU and the epidemiological profile of the patients was homogeneous in the phases of the study. The dysfunction of multiple organs and systems in the admission and incidence of VAP had statistical significance between the two periods with p = 0.013 and p = 0.001 respectively. The incidence of VAP decreased from 12.95/1000 days of MV in phase pre training to 3.43/1000 days of MV in phase post training. Therefore the educational measures have had an impact on reducing the rate of VAP which remained similar to national and international indexes and constant in the period of 6 months post training

A qualitative study of the experiences and observations of 4 art therapists and 2 program directors who facilitated Camp Suzanne, a week-long art-based therapeutic program for incarcerated mothers and their children in a federal prison in California. Research on psychotherapy, art therapy, and family therapy in prison environments, with a focus on parent-child dyads, Attachment Theory, and various techniques for creating sustainable therapy with separated family units, including tele-mental health and evidence-based military protocols, informed the interviews. The research participants were interviewed individually and created art regarding the subjects of Attachment Theory with incarcerated-mother-child dyads and longevity considerations for the program. Emergent themes in the data included the impact of art-making on attachment and a variety of observable attachment styles, as well as obstacles to both attachment and longevity of Camp Suzanne. Some of the obstacles addressed include systemic challenges, continuity of care, location concerns, external support (for facilitators and for incarcerated-mother-child dyads), as well as preparatory support (psychoeducation). Various implications of these obstacles are discussed.

Since the inception of the University in 1960 under the Apartheid regime and up until a few years ago Afrikaans had dominated both as educational and as communication medium. However, political change - at the University and in South Africa - has brought about a change in language patterns. According to the HSRC Work Committee on Languages and Language Instruction (1981), a high percentage (40%) of Afrikaans-speaking people classified as coloured and living in the Cape Peninsula choose English as the medium of instruction and also regard it as the most important language to be learnt at schools (also 40%). As a result of this, and the enrolment of a large percentage of Xhosa speaking students, who generally prefer English to Afrikaans as an educational medium, English has become the language most commonly used both inside and outside the classroom. The homogeneity of preference has, however, not been matched by mastery of the language. For approximately 70% of all first-year students English is a second or even a third language. Though University entry is based on at least ten years of the study of English, standards of proficiency differ quite considerably as a result of inequalities in education. Because students need to improve their level of English proficiency I investigated the effectiveness of using senior students as tutor assistants in an academic development programme, the English Special Project, at UWC. This study aims at revealing that the tutor assistantships in the English Special Project can alleviate problems that occur with annual increases in student numbers under certain conditions. These are that: 1 prospective tutor assistants undergo proper tutor assistant training; 2 tutor assistants are committed to the course of academic development; 3 tutor assistants have the time available that is necessary for the task. In Chapter 1 give an insight into what this study is about, the reasons for conducting it and what my personal involvement with the ESP has been. In Chapter 2 I review some of the overseas and local literature on TA systems. In Chapter 3 I describe a case-study to evaluate the success of the TA system in the ESP with reference to academic development. I emphasize the intensive, individual care of and attention to first-year students. In an attempt to address the problem, the effectiveness of senior students as tutor assistants to assist in tutorial sessions is described. In Chapter 4 I discuss the value of TA intervention in the ESP at personal and social levels. Chapter 5 contains the general conclusions and my recommendations to improve the ESP.

Russell’s claim that only structural knowledge of the world is possible was influentially criticized by Newman as rendering scientific discoveries trivial. I show that a version of this criticism also applies to the “structural realism” more recently advocated by Worrall, which requires continuity of formal structure between predecessor and successor scientific theories. The problem is that structure, in its common set-theoretical construal, is radically underdetermined by the entities and relations over which it is defined, rendering intertheoretic continuity intolerably cheap. I show that this problem may be overcome by supplementing the purely formal relation of intertheoretic isomorphism with the semiformal “Ontological Reductive Links” developed by Moulines and others of the German “structuralist” approach to the philosophy of science.

Ce mémoire de maîtrise analyse trois projets développés au courant de mes trois années de maîtrise à l’Université de Montréal en composition instrumentale et vocale, de même que certain outils utilisés pour assurer à chacune de mes créations une continuité et une unité. En plus de l’analyse de trois œuvres orchestrales et chorales, ce mémoire aborde en premier lieu les notions de caractère et son rôle dans un discours uniforme et continu. Il présente ensuite l’usage du motif à des fins d’unités dans chacune de mes œuvres. Il offre enfin des alternatives à la tonalité classique pour assurer un pôle tonal aux œuvres telles le pandiatonisme, les enchainements harmoniques par note commune, l’enrichissement d’enchainements tonaux par la coloration d’accords et la cohabitation de ces différents outils.
This master's thesis analyses three different works, composed during my studies in vocal and instrumental composition at Université de Montréal, and discusses a few of the techniques I have used to assure unity and continuity in my music. In addition to analyzing three orchestral and choral pieces, this thesis first addresses the notion of character, and its role in my music. It also discusses the way I use motives in my composition for purposes of unity. It then offers a few alternatives to classical tonality, which assure tonal attraction in my pieces, such as pandiatonicism, chords progressions by common notes, enrichment of tonal progressions by addition of color notes to chords, and the combined use of these different techniques.

The contemporary city is the result of the overlapping succession of fragments of history and of the dichotomous thoughts that influence its transforming forces of action. Modern thinking, with its pre-established city,generated new urban concepts making, at the same time, paradigmatic the idea of city that preceded them, thus creating a conflict lived in the present city.Responding to this conflict, in the first part of this dissertation three urban visions are presented (Memory City, Standardized City and City Collage) aiming, according to distinct argumentative points, to assure a sense of urban harmony and conciliation. Next, three concepts of objects created by architecture theorists (Mega-structure, Megaform and Mesh) are presented, which, similarly as the previous theories, intended to reconcile urban conflicts, starting with principles of dialogue between the traditional and the modern perceptions of city.Taking into account the previous architectural theories, in the third part, and using real project examples, three types of objects are categorized (network, object-texture, object-network), representing distinct and apparently incompatible solutions to respond to the problem of urban continuity.Among the more general views of urban planning and the occasional views of architectural objects, the dissertation contrasts principles that bring to the fore and discuss a set of dichotomies of the city's genesis, such as: the planned and the spontaneous; Unity and fragmentation; Mass and emptiness; The rule and the exception.In the fourth part, from the analysis of the case study, it is discussed how the three object categories, synthesized in three different moments of history at the University of Aveiro, represent after all a situation of dialogue, continuity and unity, filling the different objective categories of urban objects, according to those exposed in the second part of the dissertation, which allowed a territorial continuity under the discontinuity of time.
A cidade contemporânea é o resultado da sucessão de fragmentos de história que nela se sobrepõem e dos pensamentos dicotómicos que influenciaram as forças de ação que a foram transformando.O pensamento moderno, de corte com a cidade pré-estabelecida, gerou novos conceitos urbanos,ao mesmo tempo que tornou paradigmática a ideia de cidade que os antecedeu, criando, assim, um conflito vivido no presente citadino.Procurando aprofundar a problemática e a natureza das respostas relativas a este conflito, na primeira parte desta dissertação expõe-se três visões urbanas (Cidade Memória, Cidade Padronizada e Cidade Colagem) que pretendiam, segundo pontos argumentativos distintos, garantir um sentido de harmonia e conciliação urbana. De seguida, apresentam-se três conceitos de objeto,criados porteóricos da arquitetura (Megaestrutura, Megaforma e Malha) que, da mesma forma que as anteriores teorias, refletem sobre a conciliação de conflitos urbanos,partindo de princípios de diálogo entre preceitos tradicionais e modernos.A partir das teorias arquitetónicas anteriores e recorrendo a exemplos de projeto reais, na terceira parte, categorizam-se três tipos de objeto (rede; objeto-textura; objeto-rede) que representam soluções distintas e aparentemente incompatíveis como resposta ao problema da continuidade urbana. Àsvisões mais gerais, de planeamento urbano, e as visões pontuais, de objetos arquitetónicos, contrapõem-se,nesta dissertação,princípios que vêm evidenciar e pôr em discussão um conjunto de dicotomias próprias da génese da cidade, tais como: o planeado e o espontâneo; a unidade e a fragmentação; a massa e o vazio; a regra e a exceção. Personnel scheduling is an important issue for many 24hour industries, and nurse scheduling is one of the classic case. In practice, nurse scheduling in intensive care take laws, scheduling related rules, nurse preferences, and patient condition into account. But many studies don’t consider patient condition. A nurse schedule that considers daily patient condition could not only improve the efficiency of handoffs-the transfer of patients from the care of one nurse to another but also the medical care quality. This study proposes a two-stage solving process that takes daily patient condition into consideration. Our goal is to satisfy as many soft constraints as possible by constructing 0-1 goal programming mathematical models. Two month cases in a particular intensive care unit are used as an example to make comparisons between the proposed approach and the existing manual solution.

It is a very significant issue how to include young people for a long service. On the other hand, the leadership of the all-volunteer force play an important role for transforming the recruited young people from socialized ones to militarized one with the core value of duty, honor and country. They must obey the orders. This study focus on the intention of stay-or-leave. We will also study how the leadership can affect the intention by the transforming of leadership and creating of organization recognition, in order to find the effective way to increase the intention of staying and lower the intention of leaving. For the object of this study, a squadron in northern Taiwan that is recruited will be chosen. The method of doing this survey is by handing out questionnaires. The result of various analyzing methods shows that transformational leadership has an obvious positive effect on organizational commitment, and that organizational commitment has a mediating effect on transformational leadership and the willingness to retain service. O envelhecimento demográfico está patente na nossa sociedade e consequentemente as doenças crónicas e incapacitantes atingem um grande número de indivíduos, esperando-se um aumento nos próximos anos. A síndrome demencial carateriza-se por um declínio progressivo e gradual no funcionamento da pessoa, levando a que a família seja uma importante fonte de apoio. Também as estruturas e serviços assumem um papel importante, verificando-se um aumento significativo de respostas de apoio às pessoas idosas. A Rede Nacional de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (RNCCI), com o objetivo de promover a continuidade de cuidados fundamentais junto do doente, inclui intervenções desenvolvidas por uma equipa multidisciplinar.O presente estudo tem como objetivo principal compreender a experiência dos cuidadores familiares das pessoas com demência integradas em Unidades de Cuidados Continuados Integrados (UCCI) nomeadamente no que diz respeito às necessidades e desafios de ter um familiar com demência, que se encontra integrado numa UCCI, e as estratégias adaptativas utilizadas para um funcionamento mais positivo. Empreendeu-se uma abordagem qualitativa, com uma amostra intencional e homogénea, constituída por quinze cuidadores familiares de pessoas com demência integradas em UCCI. Nas entrevistas realizadas, identificaram-se necessidades, desafios e estratégias facilitadoras, presentes quando a pessoa com demência estava em casa, mas que se mantêm, com diferentes contornos, aquando da integração em UCCI. Sobre o futuro, destaca-se a decisão da alta, que na maioria dos casos envolverá o recurso a uma estrutura residencial, devido a questões familiares, de falta de apoio e indisponibilidade do cuidador, entre outras. A abordagem centrada no cuidador familiar é crucial sendo necessário investir na formação/ informação dos cuidadores e em serviços mais especializados, que respondam às exigências desta experiência e valorizem e suportem as estratégias adaptativas. A intervenção focada na capacitação do cuidador familiar apresenta-se como uma estratégia importante para que o envelhecimento da pessoa idosa com demência ocorra de forma natural no domicílio.
Demographic aging is evident in our society and consequently chronic and incapacitating diseases are reaching a large number of individuals, and an increase is expected in the coming years. The dementia syndrome is characterized by a general and gradual functional decline, which leads the family to be an important source of support. Also structures and services play an important role, and indeed there has been an increase in social responses of elderly support. The Integrated Continuing Care Network (ICCN), aiming to promote the continuity of the patient's basic care, includes several interventions developed by a multidisciplinary team.The main objective of this study is to understand the experience of family caregivers of people with dementia, which are in an Integrated Continuing Care Unit (ICCU), namely with regard to their needs, challenges of having a family member with dementia who is integrated into an ICCU and the adaptive strategies used to a more positive functioning. A qualitative study was developed, with an intentional and homogeneous sample, consisting of fifteen family caregivers of people with dementia integrated in ICCU. From the interviews carried out, the needs, challenges and facilitating strategies, presented in the moments in which the person with dementia was at home, but that remain, with different contours, when integrating in UCC, were identified. For the future moment, the discharge decision stands out, which in most cases will involve the use of a nursing home, due to family issues, lack of support and unavailability of the caregiver, among others.The family caregiver centered approach is crucial, being important to invest in caregiver´s education / information and more specialized services that respond to the demands of this experience and value and support the adaptive strategies. The intervention focused on family caregiver training is an important strategy for the aging in place of the older persons with dementia.

To reach the goal of creating a modernized and professional troop, the ROC armed force has tried to raise the personnel quality and total combat ability while reducing the amount of troop and maintaining their mission capability. This is done based on the military service and personnel treatment policy changesand the implementation of the all-volunteer military recruitment. In order to build a comprehensive system with less costand let the command level realize the true feeling of troops, how to keep in-service personnel stay in the troop becomes the first priority issue for the military. This research focuses on in-service volunteer personnel who have served the military for more than ten years in the research and development unit and aims to understand the key factors for personnel keep in-service. Through the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process(FAHP), a hierarchy is decomposed into four dimensions: “Work values,” “Society’s sensation,” “Salary and welfare,” and “Leadership style.” Each dimension is further decomposed into several factors. The results show that “Work values” and “Salary and welfare” are the major dimensions (attributed to more than 72%). This means that these two dimensions are the key dimensions forthe air forceresearch and development unit’s personnel to keep in-service. For the factors, “Fit for the work” (19.7%), “A good promoting policy” (19.5%), “Steady and guarantee pension”(13.4%), “Fulfillment in the job”(12.5%),and “Working environment”(7.3%) are the major factors. To summarize, the research and development personnel would have higher interest in stay in-service when they have a higher work values and salary and welfare. As the future counseling suggestion to keep personnel stay in-service, the research advises that the command post should take the specialties among different units as the policy decision consideration. A more proper plan could encourage personnel stay in the troop with “dignity,” “compensation” and “future career achievement” so that the total battle powerand personnel quality could be maintained with less budget cost.

Nationl Security is the root of national development and survival. The quality of the human resources in the closely related to the combat power of the army. To promote army recruit policy, encouraging excellent voluntary soldiers to be retained in the army has become an important way to enhance military strength. However, recentiy the news reports on the negative issues of soldiers have not only influenced people’s thoughts but also the morale of the troops. The study focused on the voluntary soldiers in the military units in southern Taiwan. Questionnaires of this study are distributed in the way of random sampling. Two hundred and eighty-nice copies of the questionnaire were valid. SPSS was the tool of statistical analysis to investigate the influence of salary satisfaction, job satisfaction and military image on the willingness of continuing as voluntary soldiers. The findings are as follows: 1.The background of voluntary soldiers has an influence on the willingness of continuing. 2.Voluntary soliders’ salary satisfaction has a positive influence on their willingness of continuing. 3.Voluntary soliders’ job performane satisfaction has a positive influence on their willingness of continuing. 4.Military imgage has a strong interference effect on voluntary soldiers’ willingness of continuing their job.

Data was collected during February and March 200 I when student nurses, nurse educators and unit supervisors in the Northern Province completed questionnaires. The study revealed positive and negative perceptions regarding accompaniment of student nurses in clinical settings, including that: • accompaniment in the clinical settings enhanced student nurses' clinical learning experiences • the presence of nurse educators in the clinical settings improved student nurses' accompaniment • facilitators played an important role in the accompaniment of student nurses • accompaniment enhances correlation of theory and practice

Os objetivos do estudo são caracterizar e avaliar o impacte dos Eventos Adversos numa unidade privada de cuidados continuados de convalescença, nomeadamente, Infeções Associadas a cuidados de Saúde, quedas e Úlceras por Pressão, ocorridos em 2012. Tratou-se de um estudo quantitativo, observacional, transversal, analítico e retrospetivo. A frequência dos EA’s foi de 44%. As IACS foram os mais frequentes (70%), na maioria infeções urinárias, os antibióticos foram prescritos sobretudo de forma empírica. As quedas representam 24% dos EA’s, ocorreram maioritariamente no quarto e WC, e sem lesões em 68% dos casos. As UP foram apenas 6% dos EA’s, localizavam-se principalmente nos calcanhares e região sagrada, e à data da alta estavam cicatrizadas ou melhoradas. As consequências de um EA foram moderadas em 78% dos casos e grave em apenas 3%. Os custos com material e medicação para tratamento de um EA foram mais elevados nas UP, contudo o tratamento das IACS consumiu mais recursos. Os doentes que sofreram EA’s tiveram mais dias de internamento do que os doentes que não sofreram EA’s, contudo não foi possível apurar os dias específicos de internamento por EA.
Public health adverse events are a problem whose rate is around 10% that shoul d be analyzed and controlled. The aim of this study is to characterize and evaluate the impact of adverse events on a private continuous care unit associated to health care infections, falls, pressure ulcers occurred in 2012. This study was quantitative, o bservational, transversal, analytical and retrospective. The frequency of adverse events are 44%, of these 70% were associated to health care infections, the majority where urinary infections, treated with empirical prescribed antibiotics. Patients falls r epresented 24% of all adverse events which occurred mostly in their rooms or bathrooms 68% of times without lesions. Only 6% of adverse events were pressure ulcers primarily localized on the heal or sacral region, by the time of hospital discharge were hea led or in better condition. 78% of cases the consequence were moderate only 3 % were serious. The cost of materials and medications to treat adverse events were highest for pressure ulcers, but health care associated infections consumed more resources. Pa tients that suffered adverse events had more days of hospitalization than patients without adverse events, it was not possible to verify specific days of hospitalization of adverse events.

O presente estudo pretende ser um contributo para uma maior compreensão da Satisfação com o Suporte Social, do Sentido de Imortalidade Simbólica e da Ansiedade Perante a Morte em familiares de utentes internados em Unidades de Cuidados Continuados. Concretamente pretende-se verificar se estas três dimensões variam em função do tipo de Unidade de Cuidados Continuados em que o familiar se encontra internado e em função da situação de internamento (internado vs alta). No estudo I participaram 332 familiares de utentes internados em Unidades de Convalescença, em Unidades de Longa Duração e Manutenção e em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos. Os participantes foram avaliados através da Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social de Pais Ribeiro (1999) e das versões portuguesas de Santos (1999) das Escalas de Sentido de Imortalidade Simbólica (Drolet, 1990) e de Ansiedade Perante a Morte (Templer, 1970). Em termos gerais, não foram observadas diferenças significativas entre os grupos para a maioria das variáveis consideradas, exceto no que diz respeito aos modos biossocial e natural que integram a Escala de Sentido de Imortalidade Simbólica. No que diz respeito ao modo biossocial, os familiares de utentes internados em Unidades de Convalescença foram os que apresentaram maior sentido de imortalidade simbólica comparativamente com os familiares de utentes em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos. Já quanto ao modo natural, foi o grupo de familiares de utentes em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos que evidenciou maior sentido de imortalidade simbólica em relação aos dois outros grupos. No estudo II participaram 259 familiares de utentes internados e com alta do internamento da Unidade de Convalescença. Estes foram igualmente observados através das três escalas utilizadas no estudo anterior, não tendo sido observadas diferenças siginificativas entre os dois grupos para nenhuma das variáveis ou factores considerados. Por fim, constatou-se, em ambos os estudos, a existência de uma correlação positiva entre a Satisfação com o Suporte Social e o Sentido de Imortalidade Simbólica e, ao contrário do descrito na literatura (que aponta para correlações negativas), entre estas duas variáveis e a Ansiedade Perante a Morte.
This study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the Satisfaction with the Social Support, of the Symbolic Immortality and of the Anxiety Facing Death in the family members of patients hospitalized in Continuing Care Units. Specifically, it aims to verify if these three dimensions are affected by the typology of the Continuing Care Unit and by the state of the family member hospitalization (hospitalized versus hospital release). Three hundred and thirty two family members of patients hospitalized in Convalescence Units, in Long Term and Maintenance Units, and in Palliative Care Units participated in Study I. The participants were assessed with the Satisfaction with Social Support Scale (Pais Ribeiro, 1999) and with the Portuguese versions (Santos, , 1999) of the Symbolic Immortality Sense (Drolet, 1990) and Anxiety Facing Death (Templer, 1970) Scales. Overall, no significant differences were observed between groups for the majority of the considered variables, except for the bio-social and natural modes of Symbolic Immortality Sense Scale. For the bio-social mode, the group of family members of patients hospitalized in Convalescence Units showed a sense of symbolic immortality higher than the group of family members of patients in Palliative Care Units. For the natural way, it was the group of family members of patients in Palliative Care Units that showed higher sense of symbolic immortality compared to the other two groups. In study II, 259 family members of hospitalized patients and of hospital release patients from the Convalescence Unit were assessed. The same three scales used in the previous study were administered to the participants. No significant differences were observed between the two groups for any of the variables or factors considered. Finally, a positive correlation between the Satisfaction with the Social Support and the Sense of Symbolic Immortality was observed in both studies. A positive correlation between these two variables and Anxiety Facing Death were also observed.
La présente étude à l’attention d’être une contribution pour une meilleure compréhension de la Satisfaction avec le Support Social, Immortalité Symbolique et l’Anxiété Envers la Mort en familier d’usagers hospitalisés dans des Unités de Soins Continus. Concrètement, cette étude doit permettre de vérifier si ces trois dimensions varient en fonction du type des Unités de Soins Continus où la personne de la famille est hospitalisée et en fonction de la situation de l’hospitalisation (hospitalisé vs sortie de l’hôpital). À l’étude I ont participé 332 familiers d’usagers hospitalisés aux Unités de Convalescence, aux Unités de Soins de Longue Durée et Soins d'Entretien, et dans les Unités des Soins Palliatifs. Les participants ont été évalués à travers de l’Échelle de Satisfaction avec le Support Social de Pais Ribeiro (1999) et des versions portugaises de Santos (1999) et Échelles du Sens de l'Immortalité Symbolique (Drolet, 1990) et de l’Anxiété Envers la Mort (Templer, 1970). En termes généraux, aucune différence significative n’a été observée entre les groupes pour la plupart des variables considérées, sauf par rapport aux modes bio-sociales et naturels qui intègrent l’Échelle du Sens de l'Immortalité Symbolique. Par rapport au mode bio-social, les familiers des usagers hospitalisés aux Unités de Convalescence ont été ceux qui ont présenté une plus grande sens de l'immortalité symbolique comparativement aux familiers des usagers hospitalisés dans les Unités des Soins Palliatifs. Quant à la manière naturelle, le groupe des familiers hospitalisés dans les Unités des Soins Palliatifs a été celui qui a mis en évidence des niveaux de l'immortalité symbolique plus élevés. À l’étude II ont participé 259 familiers d’usagers hospitalisés et avec sortie de l’hôpital d'Unité de Convalescence. Ceux-ci ont été également observés à travers des trois échelles utilisées dans l’étude antérieure, n’ayant été observés aucune différence significative entre les deux groupes pour aucune des variables ou facteurs considérés. À la fin, il a été constaté, dans les deux études, l'existence de la corrélation positive entre la Satisfaction avec le Support Social et le Sens de l'Immortalité Symbolique et, contrairement à ce qui est décrit dans la littérature (qui oriente vers des corrélations négatives), entre ces deux variables et l’Anxiété Envers la Mort.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this study was to evaluate a programme aimed at equipping adult mine workers in the North-West Province in computer-based skills. The study describes how the use of computers for learning has transformed some of the mine workers in an Own-Time learning environment, where computers were integrated in their learning activities, compared to the Full-Time adult learning environment, which did not present a similar opportunity. The perspective of using a combination of two teaching methodologies in the Adult Education and Training (AET) curriculum provided at this mine sought to minimise the conventional didactic instructional approaches, whereby the facilitator does most of the talking while learners become passive listeners. Activity theory (AT), in tandem with the reviewed literature, was well suited as a theoretical framework for this study, since it takes a developmental view of minds and technological interaction in context. The activity system was used to map how existing work-related practices fitted into each component, which includes the subject, object, rule, community and division of labour. A case study was applied as a guiding design in the study in which seventeen mine workers participated. The computer activity was illustrated from multiple perspectives, using a qualitative approach and associated epistemologies and beliefs regarding the engagement with mediational tools. Boundary crossings, the zone of proximal development, and the eight-step-model from activity theory were used to scrutinise the learners’ beliefs, attitudes, knowledge, practices and contradictions. These important aspects assisted in obtaining data through participant observation, interviews and field notes. To discover patterns, concepts, themes and meanings from the notes and transcripts, data analysis was blended with these aspects. This study demonstrated the use of the above-mentioned methods at appropriate times. Without ideal and effective research methods, the quality of evidence of this study would have suffered and elucidations of connections would have been inadequate. The findings revealed that the AET programme made an impact on the company and on the individual participants, in their homes, their place of work, and their communities. Change in the workers’ performance after attending AET computer-based programmes was noticeable especially regarding their literate and numerate knowledge and skills. Contradictions and disturbances in the AET programme were also identified, and an intervention was proposed to facilitate a computer programme that includes the curriculum components such as mouse skills, keyboarding, data manipulation and desktop publishing. The study proposes that the AET policy needs to cover Own-Time learners, even though their learning is not obligatory, in the same way as it covers the Full-Time learners. A modified activity theory, contextualised for a situation such as that in the mine in question, was contributed in the study. Furthermore, some limitations and recommendations for future research were identified from the findings. The proposed AT for adult learners suggests a new way of exploring the practices of mind and technology interaction for adult learners, incorporating cultural backgrounds, age, language, values and beliefs as well as reflective decision making.
