Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, a wideband bandpass filter with a coupled line cross-shaped resonator (CLCSR) is proposed. The proposed bandpass filter is composed of two open-end parallel coupled lines, one short-end parallel coupled line, one branch microstrip line, and the parallel coupled line feed structure. With the use of the even and odd mode approach, the transmission zeros and transmission poles of the proposed bandpass filter are analyzed. The coupling coefficient of the parallel coupled line feed structure is big, so the distance between the parallel coupled line is too small to be processed. A three microstirp lines coupled structure is used to realize strong coupling and cross coupling. This structure also can reduce the return loss in passband and increase the out-of-band rejection. The transmission zeros can be adjusted easily by varying the lengths of the open-end parallel coupled line or the short-end parallel coupled line. The proposed bandpass filter is fabricated and measured. The simulated results agree well with the measured ones, which shows that the design method is valid.

Abstract (sommario):
A novel miniaturized wideband bandpass filter (BPF) using capacitor-loaded microstrip coupled line is proposed. The capacitors are loaded in parallel and series to the coupled line, which makes the filter just require one one-eighth wavelength coupled line and achieve filtering response with multiple transmission poles (TPs) and transmission zeros (TZs). Compared with the state-of-the-art microstrip wideband BPFs, the proposed filter has the advantages of compact size and simple structure. A prototype centered at 1.47 GHz with the 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 86.5% is demonstrated, which exhibits the compact size of 0.003λ2 g (λg is the guided wavelength at the center frequency) and the minimum insertion loss of 0.37 dB.

Abstract (sommario):
A compact and highly selective triple-band bandpass filter (BPF) is designed and presented in this paper. Proposed filter offers low insertion loss, and passband characteristics is achieved by using two coupled MMR multi-mode resonators (MMR1 and MMR2) and an inverted T and circular shape MMRs. The filter operates at frequency 2.43 GHz (Vehicular Communication), 5.91 GHz (ITS band), and 8.86 GHz (satellite communication band). The simulation and measurement results show a minimum insertion loss of 1.6 dB, 0.73 dB, and 2.8 dB for triple-band BPF. The return loss is found to be greater than 13.06 dB, 28.6 dB, and 21.55 dB. It is noted that measurement results are in accordance with the result of electromagnetic simulation. Desired triple-band multi-mode resonators (MMRs) filter characteristics are achieved with six transmission zeroes (TZs). The filter comprises of MMRs which provide small size and control over the spurious frequency. By using a parallel-coupled microstrip line, the first and third passbands are realised. Whereas by using an end-coupled microstrip line, the second passband is recognised. At the input and output ports, the resonator coupling technique is used. By using the anti-parallel microstrip line arrangement, the transmission zero is acquired. The dimensions of the designed filter are 25×16 mm 2.

Abstract (sommario):
This work demonstrates design methods that can achieve remarkable enhancement in the stopband response of microstrip coupled-line filters. The frequencies of resonance and/or the transmission zeros of a coupled-line section can be controlled by its length. Therefore, by constructing a filter with coupled lines of incommensurate lengths such that these frequencies do not overlap, substantial improvement in the stopband response can be obtained. Besides its compact structure and simple design procedure, an unprecedented performance is demonstrated experimentally in which the transmission level is maintained below −20 dB up to as high as 11.9 f0 for a third-order filter, where f0 is the center frequency.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a high-performance lowpass filter (LPF) using periodical inter-coupled compact microstrip resonator cells (CMRCs) in series. The CMRC consists of high impedance transmission line and symmetrical T-shaped structure at both sides with ended transmission line arms. By using a bridge structure to introduce controllable inter-coupling between the adjacent tapered CMRC units, the proposed CMRC structure exhibits quasi-elliptic lowpass response with improved stopband performance. Final design of an exemplary LPF using proposed design structure and methodology verify the feasibility of the structure and its high performance including compact structure, low insertion loss, sharp transition and expanded stopband.

Abstract (sommario):
Recently, matched bandstop filters had become a substantial part of modern RF and microwave systems. However, in these types of filters, the key problem in the couplings of any microstrip resonators to transmission microstrip line is the variation or tolerance of the coupling gap. It was found that the bandstop response is very sensitive to the gap size of the coupled line. Therefore, this paper presents parametric studies of dual-mode parallel coupled line and ring resonator for matched bandstop filter design. For parallel coupled line resonator, it was found that with careful design and proper circuit parametric study on the coupling spacing, very high notch and matched return loss response were obtained. In contrast, for ring resonator, based on the simulated result, it was found that a very high notch and matched return loss response were obtained with careful design and proper circuit parametric study on the coupling spacing, width at coupling lines, and perturbed stub length.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper considers an algorithm for development of the sixth order compact microstrip bandpass filters with quasi-elliptic characteristics. The proposed technique is applied for synthesis of two filters for the L- and X-band. The recursive computational approach is employed to obtain the coupling matrix with simple topological implementation. Next, the full-wave transmission line analysis based on spectral-domain method of moments is applied for calculation of coupled microstrip resonator eigen frequencies. This approach is then used to compute magnitude and sign of the coupling coefficient for basic coupled resonator configurations. Finally, two quasi-elliptic filter topologies are synthesized and structure optimization in Ansys HFSS is performed. As a result, prototypes of the developed microstrip filters are manufactured and measured.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, compact microwave components, including a Wilkinson power divider and a 3 dB branch-line coupler based on artificial transmission lines (ATLs) with harmonic suppression, are presented. A section ATL is consisted of microstrip stepped impedance transmission lines and a microstrip interdigital capacitor. To achieve a compact size, the stepped impedance transmission lines are folded into a right-angled triangle shape. For the ATL, the interdigital capacitor is used to suppress harmonics. By employing two sections of 70.7 Ω ATLs with a right-angled triangle shape to replace conventional transmission lines, the proposed power divider working at 0.9 GHz achieves a size miniaturization with the 58.8% area of a conventional case. In addition, the power divider has good harmonic suppression performance. In the design of a branch-line coupler, two pairs of ATLs with 50 Ω and 35.4 Ω are utilized. For 50 Ω ATLs, the ATLs are designed to a right-angled triangle shape. Meanwhile, to obtain a more compact size, these 35.4 Ω ATLs are modified to an isosceles trapezoid shape. The proposed branch-line coupler operating at 0.9 GHz accounts for merely 33.4% of a coupler adopting conventional microstrip transmission lines. Moreover, the harmonics of a branch-line coupler are suppressed effectively as well. Finally, measured results of the proposed Wilkinson power divider and branch-line coupler display good performance and agree with their simulated results well.

The miniaturized coupler operating at 2.45 GHz is designed and implemented on a double-layer printed circuit board substrate with blind metallic vias embedded in the lower substrate layer providing the slow-wave effect. Based on this concept, a 43% size miniaturization is achieved as compared with a classical microstrip branch-line coupler prototype. The measured S parameters present a return loss of 25.5 dB and an average insertion loss equal to 0.05 dB at the operating frequency.

Abstract (sommario):
A new defected ground structure (DGS) microstrip line that is free from the ground contact problem is described together with its application example. The proposed DGS microstrip line adopts a double-layered substrate. The first layer contains the microstrip line and DGS patterns on the top and bottom planes as with the conventional DGS line. The second substrate, of which upper metal plane has already been removed, is attached to the bottom ground plane of the first layer. This structure prevents the ground plane of the first substrate with DGS patterns from making contact with the metal housing. The proposed DGS microstrip line has advantageous transmission and rejection characteristics, without the ground contact problem of DGS patterns, which has been a critical problem of previous DGS lines. A 10 dB branch line hybrid coupler is designed and measured, as an example of application of the proposed DGS microstrip line.

Abstract (sommario):
A Wilkinson power divider with improved bandpass filtering and high isolation performance is proposed. These characteristics are achieved by replacing the quarter-wavelength transmission line in the conventional coupled line Wilkinson power divider with quarter-wavelength side-coupled ring (QSCR). Additional features such as DC blocking between arbitrary two ports, single-layer via-less structure for low-cost fabrication and convenient integration (as only one isolation resistor required) are highlighted. A 2-GHz Wilkinson microstrip power divider with a fractional bandwidth of 4% has been fabricated and experimentally characterized. The consistency between simulated and measured results validates the effectiveness of our proposed design.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Arrays of lumped-element kinetic inductance detectors (LEKIDs) optically coupled through an antenna-coupled transmission line are a promising candidate for future cosmic microwave background experiments. However, the dielectric materials used for the microstrip architecture are known to degrade the performance of superconducting resonators. In this paper, we investigate the feasibility of microstrip coupling to a LEKID, focusing on a systematic study of the effect of depositing amorphous silicon nitride on a LEKID. The discrete and spatially separated inductive and capacitive regions of the LEKID allow us to vary the degree of dielectric coverage and determine the limitations of the microstrip coupling architecture. We show that by careful removal of dielectric from regions of high electric field in the capacitor, there is minimal degradation in dielectric loss tangent of a partially covered lumped-element resonator. We present the effects on the resonant frequency and noise power spectral density and, using the dark responsivity, provide an estimate for the resulting detector sensitivity.

Abstract (sommario):
We present a new concept of the thermoelectric structure that generates microwave and terahertz signals when illuminated by femtosecond optical pulses. The structure consists of a series array of capacitively coupled thermocouples. The array acts as a hybrid type microwave transmission line with anomalous dispersion and phase velocity higher than the velocity of light. This allows for adding up the responces from all the thermocouples in phase. The array is easily integrable with microstrip transmission lines. Dispersion curves obtained from both the lumped network scheme and numerical simulations are presented. The connection of the thermocouples is a composite right/left-handed transmission line, which can receive terahertz radiation from the transmission line ports. The radiation of the photon to the surface of the thermocouple structure causes a voltage difference with the bandwidth of terahertz. We examined a lossy composite right/left-handed transmission line to extract the circuit elements. The calculated properties of the design are extracted by employing commercial software package CST STUDIO SUITE.

A wideband 90° hybrid coupler has been presented and implemented in planar microstrip circuit. With similar structure of conversional 2-section branch-line coupler, the proposed coupler consists of a lumped high-pass network but not the quarter wavelength transmission at the center. The values of all lumped elements were optimized to replace a quarter-wavelength transmission line with a phase inverter. To demonstrate the proposed concept, a 1-GHz prototype was fabricated and tested. It achieves 90% impedance bandwidth with magnitude of S11 less than −10 dB. Within this bandwidth, more than 13 dB port-to-port isolation, less than 5.0 degree phase imbalance, and less than 4.5 dB magnitude imbalance are achieved, simultaneously. The proposed coupler not only achieves much wider bandwidth but also occupies less circuit area than that of the conversional 2-section branch-line coupler.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, the design of a broadband multi-layer microstrip antenna is presented. The broadband characteristics are the results of coupled resonances of the patch and transmission line through the resonant aperture. For this purpose, a cross-shaped transmission line, a ring slot, and a shaped ring patch are used. The simulation and measurement results indicate that a wide impedance bandwidth of 70% for |S11| < −10 dB and a perfect impedance matching 35% for |S11| < −20 dB are achieved. The gain is stable over the impedance bandwidth. The maximum gain of the proposed antenna is 8.8 dBi at 5 GHz. The radiation pattern, radiation efficiency, and cross-polarization are also suitable throughout the impedance bandwidth.

This paper proposes a novel wideband 90[Formula: see text] phase shifter, which comprises a radial stub, a uniform transmission line, and a weak coupled-line (coupling coefficient [Formula: see text] dB). The circuit configuration and theoretical analysis equations of the phase shifter are presented. Results demonstrate that the bandwidth (BW) with acceptable phase deviation can be obviously improved by increasing the spanning angle of the radial-stub and the coupling strength of the coupled-line. For return loss better than 10 dB, insertion loss less than 1.05 dB, and phase deviation of [Formula: see text] 8.5[Formula: see text], the fabricated microstrip single-layer phase shifter exhibits BW of 118% from 0.65 GHz to 2.51 GHz. Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents an inter-connected side-shorted coupled-line resonator topology as a base cell. The base cell is built from two single-shorted quarter-wavelength coupled-line sections, connected in series to give a half-wavelength coupled-line that creates a single resonance of bandpass filter response. Higher-order bandpass filter is produced by adding new single-shorted coupled-line sections, cascaded in an inter-connected manner to the base cell. This new topology creates a unique arrangement that caused cross coupling effects between the resonators, resulting to the occurrence of transmission zeros that lead to the improvement of selectivity of the higher order bandpass filter response. For validation of concept, 2nd and 3rd order bandpass filters were fabricated using microstrip technology on Roger 3210 substrate with parameter of <em>Ɛr</em> = 10.2, <em>h</em> = 1.27 mm and <em>tan δ</em> = 3x10-3. The filters were measured and the results show good agreement with simulation results.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, a novel multi-mode resonator is presented, which is formed by cascading several open-circuited transmission line sections with a coupled-line section. Owing to its symmetry, even- and odd-mode analysis methods are applied to analyze its resonance characteristic. Based on this resonator, a microstrip ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) bandpass filter is designed, fabricated, and measured. The simulated and measured results show that its bandwidth can cover the desired UWB. Return loss in passband is better than −14 dB. This filter is featured by good selectivity and wide stopband. Stopband suppression as low as −40 dB can be achieved within frequency range from 12 to 16 GHz.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper proposes the use of a triple-line microstrip array for transmitting a magnetic field (|B1+|) into the whole body for magnetic resonance applications at ultra-high field strength, such as 7 T. We explored some technologies that can potentially be applied for whole-body 7 T magnetic resonance imaging, as there is ongoing research on this topic. The triple-line microstrip transmission line (t-MTL) array consists of 32 channels. Each channel has a t-MTL, comprising a main conductor line and two adjacent coupled lines. The adjacent lines are not connected directly to the source. This configuration resulted in increased intensity and a centered |B1+|-field. We compared the proposed structure and some reference radiofrequency (RF) transmitters, such as a patch antenna, using a magnet bore as a waveguide and a whole-body birdcage coil. We evaluated the performance of the t-MTL using cylindrical phantoms. We computed the |B1+|-field from each RF transmitter inside a 3D human model containing more than 200 tissues. We compared their uniformity and field intensity and proposed a t-MTL array that yielded better performance. The proposed design also showed a lower specific absorption rate compared with a patch antenna.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents an implementation of quarter wavelength single-shorted coupled-lines for narrow bandpass filter application. It is shown as a new way of creating a single resonance bandpass filter by inter-connected of two <br /> single-shorted quarter wavelength coupled-line sections. By adding more single-shorted coupled-line into the configuration, the form of halfwavelength resonator can increase the degree of order of the filter. For the design of 4th order resonator, the coupledlines are arranged inter-connected to each other forming five-fingers lines layout. Due to the interconnection of the coupledlines, transmission zeros appear at the two stopbands which improves the selectivity of the filter response. Investigation on the parametric of the 4th order resonator is conducted to observe the controlling parameters and it’s realiability responses of the resonator. For compactness, five-fingers meandered lines is proposed. It is found that the size of the meandered lines resonator was successfully reduced by 33% compared to the five-fingers straight lines resonator of the same order. For validation of concept, the 4th order meandered lines resonator was designed at 1 GHz and fabricated on RO3210 microstrip substrate with characteristics given as h = 1.27 mm, Ɛr = 10.2 and tan δ = 3x10-3. The measurement results show good agreement with the simulation results.

Abstract (sommario):
A compact microstrip diplexer with low insertion loss and high isolation is proposed by combination of two coupled line bandpass filters (BPFs). An additional zero in the lower BPF transmission is created by a coupling capacitance which can be tuned at the higher channel and improve the isolation, consequently. Moreover, defected ground structures (DGSs) are used for more design flexibility and fine tuning of the structure. A diplexer prototype with two passbands at 1.24[Formula: see text]GHz and 1.5[Formula: see text]GHz is fabricated and tested. The measured insertion losses in the passbands are less than 1.2[Formula: see text]dB while the isolation between two channels is greater than 25[Formula: see text]dB and the input return losses of the three ports are about 20[Formula: see text]dB. These results in comparison with the references verify the good performance and ability of the designed duplexer.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, an Ultra-wide-band (UWB) filter based on composite right/left handed transmission line (CRLH TL) is presented. The structure of the proposed band-pass filter is quite simple, of which the size is 0.5cm×1.5cm. Left-handed capacitor is obtained by couple of microstrip lines, and Left-handed inductance is obtained by the grounded stub. The simulated results indicate that the pass band of UWB filter is 3.4-11GHz, the insertion loss is less than 1 dB and the return loss is smaller than -12.5dB. The performance of UWB filter could meet the requirement of UWB communication systems.

Abstract (sommario):
UWB technology- (operating in broad frequency range of 3.1–10.6 GHz) based filter with WLAN notch has shown great achievement for high-speed wireless communications. To satisfy the UWB system requirements, a band pass filter with a broad pass band width, low insertion loss, and high stop-band suppression are needed. UWB filter with wireless local area network (WLAN) notch at 5.6 GHz and 3 dB fractional bandwidth of 109.5% using a microstrip structure is presented. Initially a two-transmission-pole UWB band pass filter in the frequency range 3.1–10.6 GHz is achieved by designing a parallel-coupled microstrip line with defective ground plane structure using GML 1000 substrate with specifications: dielectric constant 3.2 and thickness 0.762 mm at centre frequency 6.85 GHz. In this structure aλ/4 open-circuited stub is introduced to achieve the notch at 5.6 GHz to avoid the interference with WLAN frequency which lies in the desired UWB band. The design structure was simulated on electromagnetic circuit simulation software and fabricated by microwave integrated circuit technique. The measured VNA results show the close agreement with simulated results.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper introduces a new design for a highly efficient and more compact size dual frequency wireless power transfer (WPT) system, which can operate at both 0.65 GHz and 1.56 GHz bands. The idea of the structure depends on designing a symmetrical system containing Tx and Rx. Each Tx and Rx has a feed line on the top layer with two stubs; each stub has different dimensions than the other one. The bottom layer contains two C-shaped defected ground structures (DGS). By changing the dimensions of one stub, the frequency resonance corresponds to this stub is changed without any change on the other resonance. The system has a size of 20 × 20 mm2. Further, the system achieves efficiencies of 72 % and 89 % at 0.65 GHz and 1.56 GHz, respectively with a transmission distance of 8 mm. The proposed dual frequency WPT is implemented and verified. Good concurrences among electromagnetic (EM) simulations and the measurements have been attained. The system is suitable for recharging shortrange applications.

Abstract (sommario):
The design of a novel microstrip ultra-wideband (UWB) bandpass filter with quad narrow notched-band functionality is presented. The filter consists of a multi-mode resonator (MMR) constituted from two modified stepped-impedance stubs that generate six resonate modes, five of which are within the UWB passband where the sixth mode is used to extend the upper stopband of the filter. Two transmission zeroes are located at the 3-dB edge of the passband to enhance the filter's selectivity with a skirt factor of 0.955. The MMR is fed through asymmetric interdigital coupled-lines feed to produce controllable notched-band. Additional notched-bands are generated with a parasitic coupled line. The notched-bands are centered exactly to eliminate interference at 5.2 GHz (wireless local area network (WLAN)), 5.8 GHz (WLAN), 6.8 GHz (radio-frequency identification), and 8 GHz (X-band). Good agreement is obtained between simulation and measurement results. The highly compact filter has dimensions of 8.0 × 9.83 mm2.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, a balanced-to-balanced filtering directional coupler (FDC) that can realize a 3 dB coupling degree directional coupler with high isolation and directivity is proposed. The design of the proposed FDC is primarily based on microstrip/slotline transition structures, resonance structures, and odd–even mode phase velocity compensation structures. A U-type microstrip feed line integrated with a stepped-impedance slotline resonator is adopted at the input and output ports, which makes the differential-mode (DM) responses independent of the common-mode (CM) ones, and brings superior DM transmission and CM suppression. In addition, by loading the microstrip stub-loaded resonators (SLRs), a DM passband with sharp filtering performance is realized, and transmission zeros (TZs) can be added into the design, which makes it more selective. Moreover, phase compensating slotlines are added into the coupling structure to enhance the isolation. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed design method, an FDC prototype circuit was made and tested. The simulation results are in good agreement with the measured results. The designed coupler’s DM operating band covers 2.65 GHz to 3 GHz (FBW = 12.4%), and the insertion and return losses are 4.6 dB and 20 dB, respectively. The isolation degree is better than 15 dB, and the CM suppression is more than 55 dB. The total coupler size is about 67.7 mm × 63.8 mm. The designed balanced-to-balanced FDC can be widely used in S-band wireless communication systems.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper studies a very simple structure for dual-band bandpass filter. Filter is composed of two asymmetric coupled resonator circuit by two sets of different size stepped impedance resonator. This circuit applied microstrip line, coupling principle and impedance ratio by controlling the stepped impedance resonator to control the center frequency 2.6/5.2 GHz of the first and the second bandpass filter. The basic structure of the filter is constituted by the three sections of transmission line and two sets of SIR, that is, in two gaps of the three sections of transmission line parallel connection the equivalent inductances and capacitor of the two sets of SIR in series with the resonant circuit (LCL) to constitute bandpass filter. The low frequency 2.6 GHz is through the upper half of low impedance SIR, and the high frequency 5.2 GHz is through the lower half of high impedance SIR. This paper presents the design of asymmetric SIR-based dual-band bandpass filter, the filter structure is simple, easy to produce and can control the characteristics of the passband center frequency. By electromagnet simulation software( IE3D ) to simulate, the actual production of the circuit using a vector analyzer measurement, simulation and measurement results show good consistency.
