The Covid-19 crisis has affected the world in many different ways, including organizations and HR practitioners. The purpose of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges that HR practitioners experienced in relation to the Covid-19 crisis and their experience of how previous experiences and crisis preparedness may have affected the challenges. The Covid-19 crisis created a unique opportunity to examine HR in relation to crisis situations. The study was conducted with nine HR practitioners in the same region, who worked entirely or partly with strategic HR issues. To gather empirical data, a qualitative method was used in which semi-structured interviews were conducted, the interviews were analyzed through a thematic analysis in which four overall themes and related subthemes were designed. The results showed challenges regarding adapting and having a crisis attitude, communicate and disseminating information, ensuring and providing a good working environment, maintaining efficiency, managing uncertainty and concerns, and ensuring that the organization was staffed despite increasing sick leave rates. The results also showed that experiences and the organization's crisis preparedness in some way hade affected the challenges the respondents saw and how they were handled. Theory and previous research that has been presented have focused on crisis preparedness, crisis management and HR's role in crisis work. Previous research on HR practitioners' experiences of challenges linked to crisis situations have not been found, the result of the study may therefore have given new perspectives to the field. The conclusions that can be drawn is that past experiences and crisis preparedness can have an impact on the challenges that arised in the Covid-19 crisis and that challenges are difficult to avoid for HR practitioners despite preparation and experience.

The following is a qualitative study that examines how the Swedish tourism industry has handled the COVID-19 pandemic during the year 2020. The study also focuses on the ethical dilemma that the tourism industry has been faced with, considering taking their responsibility to not increase the spread of the virus and simultaneously keeping a functioning organization. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 many industries have been negatively affected. One of the largest industries that has been affected is the tourism industry. Gotland is one of Sweden's most popular tourism destinations and is therefore an interesting location to study. The theoretical framework includes definitions and theories about crisis management as well as the crisis management process. The research methodology contains semistructured interviews. All of the respondents that we are interviewing are working in different branches within the Swedish tourism industry. When analysing the empirical data, we find that the respondents had been taking special actions in order to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. A strong ambition and the ability to be responsive seem to be qualities to desire when faced with a crisis. The ethical dilemma was managed through special actions that resulted in lost profits, however it also resulted in limiting the spread of the virus

This study aimed to analyze how the crisis with the pandemic Covid-19 has been handled within the real estate company AMF Fastigheter and to evaluate how well the crisis management plan has been implemented during the crisis. The study was of a qualitative form where interviews were conducted with people who are in leading positions at AMF Fastigheter. The results showed that AMF Fastigheter has benefited from following a predetermined crisis management plan that contains information on what is to be done and communicated during the crisis. On the other hand, some improvisation has taken place over time since they were sometimes faced with new foreign situations, which is why it can be argued that companies should be open to certain improvisation. Furthermore, the results also showed that personal characteristics and previous experience from crises among employees have been valuable. However, the results showed that there have sometimes been too many employees involved in decision-making processes, and that hasty decisions were sometimes made, which in some cases also needed to be clarified.

This paper focused on people's perceptions of changed consumption and transport habits to ex-amine whether short-term changes in everyday habits during Covid-19, can also affect and change individuals´ lifestyle habits in the long-term. The purpose of the study was to investigate what everyday adaptations people make during the Covid-19 crisis and see if it leads to more sustainable behaviors that people think they will continue with even after the crisis. The study was based on a survey and a total of 106 respondents participated. To analyze the study data, the scale effect and the composition effect were used. In the analysis, the study related to two strategies, one weak and one strong, to discuss sustainable consumption. The result shows that (1) the majority of respondents worked fewer hours during Covid-19 compared to before, (2) the majority favored digital meetings, (3) meals purchased at or from a restaurant decreased in conjunction with the reduced working hours, (4) larger consumption volumes generally de-clined in the various income groups, but the largest decrease was seen in the groups with higher monthly income. The respondents with the least amount of working hours in April had increased their amount of consumption and number of people during Covid-19, (5) respondents with the lowest monthly income drove less car compared to those with a higher income. Finally, (6) a clear majority spent under an hour on public transport during Covid-19 where a group of respondents motivated a fear of being infected and of working at home. The study could possibly argue that everyday adjustments made during Covid-19, such as digital meetings, and working fewer hours, could promote more sustainable behavior regarding consumption and transport habits. This is motivated by the respondents own perceptions of fewer spontaneous purchases during Covid-19 as fewer visits to shops and shopping centers occurred, fewer car trips to and from destinations occurred, and the need for buying or ordering lunch and dinner from restaurants was reduced.

The real estate market has previously experienced financial crises where a low interest rate environment and easily accessible loans have been the starting point for the economic bubbles that have been created.Properties as an asset have been profitable investments at the right time but have also brought the rest of the economy down when the investments fell in value. Financial players were given new, easier rules to follow, which opened up for new types of credit, while the focus was on making more money instead of taking into account the new risks. We are now going through a crisis that did not start in the financial sector but a pandemic that strains the economic system in a completely new way and transformed the real estate market. The commercial market has been given a new focus, where the previously secure investments have become obsolete and digitalisation has accelerated the new approach in society. The purpose of the study is to investigate how the crisis in the 1990s, the US mortgage crisis 2008 and Covid-19 crisis has affected the Swedish real estate market, to also consider what the real estate market looked like before and after these different crises. In addition, even exploring the difference between a financial crisis impact and a societal crisis in the form of the current corona pandemic we are experiencing now.

Background: The underlying relationship between capital structure and its impact on the company’s profitability and company value has been widely studied in different contexts and industries. The capital structure shows the company’s financing and defines the relationship between equity and debt. Even if the field has been widely studied there is still some disagreements about different underlying relationships, for example the profitability’s connection to leverage. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze how the capital structure affect the real estate- and construction companies’ profitability and company value in Sweden during the period 2012-2019. This study also has a secondary purpose to study underlying factors which has an impact on the capital structure. Research questions: How does the relationships appear between financial key figures and the capital structure during the period 2012-2019? How does the capital structure relate to profitability and company value? Which underlying factors can be supposed to influence the capital structure and what is the reason for this? Method: A quantitative method has been used to fulfill the study’s purpose. To analyze the data various panel data regressions has been implemented, where the data has been adjusted to gain a more reliable result. The result is based on data from listed companies within the real estate- and construction industry. Results: This study resulted in totally 16 statistically significant relationships, but where four can be seen as unreliable due to autocorrelation. This most prominent results are the growth effect on debt, company size’s effect on profitability and the risk’s effect on both debt and profitability. Debt and profitability also show strong connections. This study implies that growth has both positive and negative relationships with debt. Company size only shows positive connections to both debt and profitability, which is in tune with previous studies. Risk has a negative relationship with debt-to-equity ratio in both industries. The authors thinks that influential factors could be today’s levels of interest rate, levels of taxes, the real estate industry’s unique proportion of their assets and the companies’ attitude to debt.

As a result of the market’s reaction to the virus COVID-19, OMXS30 fell 32 percent at the beginning of 2020 and was able to recover itself and reach new higher levels in which OMXS30 had never been before. We have chosen to study the corona pandemic’s effect on the company valuations of the listed companies on OMXS30. The purpose of the essay is to broaden the understanding of how Swedish company valuations in listed companies can behave during a stock market crisis and crisis in society. Through the purpose, we can increase the knowledge if overvalued asset prices can lead to large values being lost to investors in the event of a stock market crisis. We compare the valuations of the companies on the highest point before the corona pandemic (2020-02-19; index point: 1900.28) with the valuations of the same companies one year into the corona pandemic (2021-02-19; index point: 2036.97). Through calculations of averages and Paired Sample t-Test, we study whether there occurred any changes in the mean of six key figures and four valuation multiples. We find no statistical significance in neither the studied key figures nor the valuation multiples except for a statistically significant decrease in the companies’ total revenues. Our result points in a direction that suggests that the increase in value of OMXS30 during the studied period was mainly driven by an increase in value of the bigger companies with higher weights in the index rather than a broader increase in value of all companies in the index. We also find that companies might have reduced their overall cost and/or received financial support from the Swedish government to be able to maintain the previous earnings levels because of the decrease in total revenue that the corona pandemic has caused.

The Swedish economy has been booming for several years and has been characterized by a low interest rate environment with good access to capital. In the wake of the financial crisis in 2008, several sources of capital have emerged and enabled diversification of funding. Competition among the capital sources has pushed prices down, increased flexibility, created longer maturities and increased freedom of choice for the real estate companies. This is the result of stringent banking regulations and increased interest from both international and national investors. Market financing has thus been given a more central role in the property sector's debt portfolios. The Covid-19-crisis has put this at its forefront and slowed the supply of capital. In the academic literature, the research fields of corporate finance and behavioral finance in times of crisis are still relatively unexplored. The aim of the study is to explore the market actor’s perception of the crisis and of alternatives for the refinancing of commercial real estate as well as comparing the present situation to earlier crises. This study is produced during the emergence of the Covid-19 crisis in the Spring of 2020 and provides a unique material. The study is qualitative and uses a document study as well as an interview study of 17 respondents from the Swedish commercial real estate market. The document study has enabled an in-depth analysis of how previous economic crises have affected the real estate market and what lessons can be learned to gain an understanding of the study's research issues. The participants in the study indicate that Covid-19 reduces the supply of capital for the real estate market. There is great uncertainty in the market, which has caused several sources of capital to “freeze”. It is also possible to see signals that point to a shift in sources of financing among the Swedish real estate companies. Companies turn from the capital market to the banking sector for refinancing. Covid-19 has realized a unique refinancing risk that is not reminiscent of previous crises, which can be understood in the light of the increased use of new forms of financing in recent years.

The written language of this paper is Swedish. Background: The Covid-19 virus has come to demand huge requirements for all businesses. Research shows that different organizations has been affected in different ways during critical situations, how these situations is being answered and handled by the leaders can be crucial for the organizations future. However good leadership and critical situations is hard to define, the role of a leader during crisis is a very interesting subject in this moment when we are actually living during a pandemic right now. Problem: The quick development around the spread of infection has demanded a lot for companies. Old routines and habits can’t be followed in the same way as before which causes worries inside the company by the employees. Management around the pandemic situation are important and at the same time the company has to proceed and manage to keep their regular work going on and manage to survive at longer terms. Even though this new way of work gains or inhibits the company some measures have to take action. The leaders must use their knowledge to handle certain situations in the best possible way. At the same time their own thoughts and opinions does not play a role in this when the work must be dealt with in a specific way. There is not a lot of experience when it comes to handle a specific crisis because the crises are brand new and unique which means that the leaders have to be beware of what can show up and how to take action for it. A leader needs to have a lot of knowledge around different areas depending on the situation to actually manage the complex situation the organization is facing. Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to investigate the outcome of how leadership has been affected during the pandemic. The thought of this investigation is to involve leaders for the companies and also the employees. Our target is to create an understanding based on their thoughts on how to keep up a clear view on how good leadership actually has been affected during the pandemic. Method: Our research strategy was to implement a study that creates a bigger understanding on how leadership affects during a critical crisis. In this investigation we’ve used two qualitative methods to get a wider and deeper knowledge based on the respondents. During this investigation a boundary has been made during the research for a small part of the company Volvo Lastvagnar AB on how specific the leadership has been affected. The result: It’s basically nothing that is what it used to be when it comes to leadership compared to what it was before the pandemic. The study shows that the biggest element on leadership has been the distance work. The leaders do not believe that their style of leadership is doing great for the company, although if we ask the employees, they think it works which shows that there are a lot of different opinions in this area. The study shows that around during different working situations, there are a lot of opinions that actually affected the company positively because it has generated new and improved solutions on upcoming problems. The employees have been titled with more responsibility during work which has led to more creative solutions compared to earlier. By the bigger responsibility handed out by the leaders, the employees have a more positive feeling when it comes to life in general just because they have their own structure and planning of their work.

Small businesses are currently one of the industries struggling most with their survival in the current crisis. With the help of social media that can be the most effective platforms in a crisis, small businesses can spread information and create a more personal relationship with their customers (Alves et al., 2020). During a crisis, it is incredibly important that communication takes place on an ongoing basis as new customers are needed for the store to survive in the coming period. The pandemic has contributed to the fact that many small businesses are expected to close, but it is too early to see any clear effects of this (Fairlie, 2020). Awareness of the importance of crisis communication creates more community and participation among employees in the organization (Heide et al., 2012; Reynolds et al., 2007). Crisis communication has become more important than ever and a necessity for small businesses, and therefore the authors believe that a study of small business approaches in how they work with crisis communication on their social media is timely given the pandemic. The purpose of the study is to investigate how small businesses work with crisis communication on social media. The authors have chosen to examine respondents who work in fashion-oriented small companies to obtain clear factors that Covid-19 has contributed. The theoretical frame of reference is based on Covid-19 and social media. Previous research on small businesses and crisis communication shows a knowledge gap, which the study must some extent fill. The study is conducted with interviews through the qualitative survey method. For collected empirical data, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with five store managers. The respondents were selected by three criteria, that they must be a small business, be influenced by Covid-19 and finally use social media. Through an analysis, a result has emerged, with the help of collected data and the theoretical frame of reference. The results of the study show that all interviewed small businesses are affected by the crisis, but that they do not possess sufficient competence for the work with crisis communication on social media, which previous research emphasizes as crucial.

Abstract Title: Public health care and Covid-19 a qualitative study about strategy changes during a crisis Authors: Lucas Dahlstedt & Jacob Rundberg Supervisor: Cristoffer Lokatt Examiner: Pia Nylinder Background: Last year has been rough for many of us. In early 2020 the covid-19 virus spread across the world and had a big impact especially on public health care. The strategic work is a central part to handle the major change. Public health has been forced to handle this major change to be able to take care of people in need. Studies about strategy in the public sector in times of crises have mainly focused on economic and political consequences while studies about strategy and how it is applied in crises are limited in public health care. Time during covid-19 gave us a rare opportunity to study how strategic work has changed in times of crisis to deal with a new reality. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine and get an understanding of how the pandemic has influenced the strategic work and what consequences the pandemic has brought to the strategic work. To be able to analyze this, theories about strategy and strategy under turbulence will be used where we will be able to see similarities and differences. Method: The study has been conducted by a qualitative approach. Semi-structured interviews have been the basis for receiving the empirical data. Our empirical data is based on three employees whose tasks revolve around the strategic work for the public health care department during the crisis. Conclusion: The strategy in public health care has undergone changes to deal with the crisis. The study shows that during a crisis, public health care crossed from a strategy as a plan to a strategy as a process where focus on an operational level was put on quick information flows to facilitate strategic decisions. This resulted in efficient resource distribution and to meet new demands within the organisation. The strategy during the crisis was directed to support the core values of the organisation while cost efficiency and future plans were pushed forward. Keywords: Strategy, strategy in the public sector, covid-19, crisis, Strategy management, Strategy changes in time of crisis.

The ongoing vaccination against covid-19 has meant that many people begin to see the light in the tunnel of the dark time that the corona pandemic has caused. However, there is no consensus about the vaccine as exclusively positive for public health as some instead choose to emphasize the risks that the vaccine may entail over the benefits of vaccination.Previous research shows that factors such as trust, risks and individual medical considerations, as well as cultural aspects, play a crucial role in risk perception regarding vaccination. The theoretical frame of reference in this study is based on Beck’s theory of the risks society, Giddens’ trust in expert systems, and Douglas’ cultural risk theory and blameculture. The aim of this pilot study is to investigate students’ perception of risk regarding the vaccine against covid-19, and whether risk perception is affected by factors such as changes in trust and degree of solidarity. The data collection consists of a quantitative method in the form of a survey, where the study sample consists of members of the group ”Dom kallar oss studenter” on Facebook. Data from the survey were then analyzed by univariate analysis and multivariate regression analyzes. Results from the study show that students with impaired trust in authorities perceive risks of side effects from the vaccine to a greater degree than students who have an equivalent or improved trust in authorities. It also shows that students with a high degree of solidarity see less risks with side effects from the vaccine than those with a low solidarity attitude.

Båstad is a small town located on Bjärehalvön. The city is known for its many events and its annual tennis tournament, the Nordea Open. The various events attract a large number of tourists every summer. At the end of 2019, a coronavirus emerged that caused the disease Covid-19. The virus spread rapidly and became a global pandemic. The purpose of this study is to describe if and if so how the pandemic has affected Båstad as a travel destination. The study was conducted with interviews that collected qualitative data with tourism actors in central Båstad. The results from the study showed that Båstad's attraction value lies both in the city’s events, its nature, and the opportunity it provides for rich outdoor life. The study shows an increased interest in outdoor activities during the pandemic. However, the crisis in Båstad led to better collaboration between the tourism actors, as well as new collaborations with external actors. One result of the restrictions that arose in connection with the pandemic was that visitors requested longer stays than before. The consequences of the coronavirus have also meant that corporate customers decreased, but on the other hand the tourism actors could see an increase of families with children. The companies have had to restructure their operations to comply with the restrictions regarding Covid-19, also attract customers and retain their attraction value. The demand for nature experiences has increased in Båstad, therefore we describe the change as following; ‘The champagne bottle switched to the thermos’.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate and gain an understanding of how the leadership of departments and units is exercised in activities that have become particularly vulnerable during the Covid-19 pandemic. The aim of the study is to answer the questions; According to managers in the elderly care, which leadership strategies have been decisive in being able to handle the challenges faced by the business during the pandemic, what have, according to managers in the elderly care, challenged their leadership role during the pandemic, and with what consequences for themselves and the business. In order to be able to answer the purpose of the study, a qualitative method has been chosen, and nine managers in different operations within elderly care have been interviewed. The background for the study uses theoretical frameworks from Ekvalls & Arvonen's behavioral leadership model, as well as Mitroffs & Anagno's model on crisis management. The results show that even in a short time in a crisis that many had not been adequately prepared for, and even though the leaders had been challenged by the pandemic, the manager with his leadership and his relationship with his employees can deal with the problems that the pandemic entailed. This gives managers space to grow and to be better prepared for the challenges of the future.

Title: Small companies meets with Covid-19 - A qualitative study on changing strategy in crisis Authors: Annie Johansson & Louise Åberg Supervisor: Pia Nylinder Examiner: Petter Boye Institution: Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics, Linnaeus University, Sweden Introduction: In early spring 2020, the virus covid-19 spread throughout the world. This virus has caused great financial consequences for companies, among other, in Sweden and they have difficulties in managing financially. However, there is a lack of research on how small companies apply strategy in crisis as well as how this strategy changes in order to be economically viable. Especially in a pandemic like covid-19 when it is the first time this has hit the world in modern times. It is a unique moment to catch up with small businesses in the midst of this chaos. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyse if and how small companies in Sweden are changing their strategy in results of the covid-19 pandemic. In order to analyse this, we will focus on how the companies manage their strategy when they are in crisis to compare to the strategy they used before the crisis. Method: The study was conducted using a qualitative research method where an alternation between theory and empiricism was used to enable an adjustment of the theory to match the study's direction. A travel agency, a camping and a grocery store have been interviewed through semi-structured interviews, on which we base our empiricism. The interviews have taken place with people who are knowledgeable in the field at their company. Conclusion: The study has shown that all three companies are undergoing strategy changes in conjunction with covid-19 to financially cope with the crisis. The result also shows that the companies work more with a strategy as a process than a strategy as a plan, because of the increased need for flexibility. Other factors such as customer focus and technologically innovative ideas also create opportunities for the company to develop even in crises.

As a result of the covid-19 pandemic, many cities have been hit by large turnover losses in business. Themunicipality and the businesses that make up the city center today face major challenges, but alsopotential opportunities. This thesis aims to shed light on how collaborative relationships within urbandevelopment work can act as emergency preparedness in crises as well as what development opportunitiesthe crisis creates. The study is conducted at three city centers with varying degrees of collaboration: Kalmar, Ronneby andVisby. The results pointed overwhelmingly towards that collaboration between the municipality, businessand property owners in the city is perceived as a form of preparedness. It is therefore of utmostimportance to invest in creating good collaboration relationships within the city in good times to createthe conditions for effective crisis management. The study has found that there are certain success factors that are important for a city center to considerin its development. These are the importance of trust between functions and people, establishedcommunication paths and long-term strategic planning for increased demand. These elements support athriving urban development, but also good crisis management.

The real estate market is a market that needs an incredible amount of capital which can be obtained in several di↵erent ways. Our thesis contains a description of the most common ways of financing a real estate corporation as well as a description of finance channels that are appropriate for the real estate business. To conclude, many individuals and companies believe that smaller companies use lo-ans from banks. The bank market itself cannot finance the whole real estate market and therefore real estate companies have to seek capital from other markets. The most common complement to loans is the bond market. It’s important to notice that bond capital becomes cheaper with an improved and better credit rating. There are also other popular ways to compliment your financing, such as through certificates and hybrid capital. Having a good balance between equity and debt financing are also important ways to compliment your financing for a successful fi-nance. During our thesis, we have learned that there is a coherence between the actors on the market and their view of how a real estate company should be financed even though there are di↵erences that can be based on personal preferences. We have also studied the consequences of the Covid 19- pandemic and how it has a↵ected real estate financing in Sweden. We came to a conclusion that the impact has been quite small since it has been an economic crisis that hasn’t been based on the financial markets. The biggest impact that the pandemic was on parts of the capital market, espe-cially the bond market which froze during the spring and early summer of 2020. Though we could see a quick recovery from that freeze and the market is now back on track and restored.

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic is a crisis that caused rapid challenges for both companies and consumers, it is also a crisis that may become one of the most extended crises experienced in modern times. The restrictions that arose in order to stop the infection can affect consumers' current and subsequent behavior and habits, which makes it important for companies to maintain relationships with their customers to achieve continued customer loyalty even after the crisis. Research on customer loyalty has barely highlighted crises as a crucial factor for loyalty but losing a significant portion of customers during or after a crisis will lead to a more difficult future for affected companies. In literature, there are various aspects and factors that can have an impact on customer loyalty during a crisis. There are divided opinions in the literature and a lack of measures in the event of a crisis as a decisive factor for customer loyalty and how customer loyalty is handled by companies' crisis management.Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose a framework, based on the factors presented in the theory chapter, on how companies can shape/uphold customer loyalty. This is based on our example and study area - Swedish grocery stores and the Covid-19 pandemic.Method: To fulfill the purpose of the study a qualitative method has been used. The method is based on an abductive research approach in which nine semi-structured interviews with grocery store managers were conducted. Conclusions: The study finds that the most frequently used factors that companies work with to promote customer loyalty during the Covid-19 pandemic involve hygiene and safety, crisis communication, expansion of online operations and reaction and action to make their customers feel safe. In summary, all originally theoretical factors are strengthened, and two new ones are added based on the empirical data in the study's final analysis model. The study's respondents report that responsibility plays a major role in customer loyalty during the pandemic and all stores have taken the necessary measures to make their customers feel safe in order to hopefully maintain customer loyalty. The study also finds that the meaning of a factor can change during the crisis, i.e. that the factor is applied in its entirety, but the actual measures carried out in practice can vary, change, or that the emphasis shifts. Our perception is that the factors presented are crisis specific, meaning that they can be of various importance depending on the type of crisis occurring or being analyzed.
