In this paper we proposed an effective but simple table recognition algorithm in the OCR field. First a binary image template is built for the tables to be recognized, which consists of all the lines describing the table cells we are interested in. Then the images to be analyzed are thresholded and deskewed. Vertical and horizontal lines are extracted from the preprocessed image to form a table “scene”. Finally the binary image template is aligned to the table “scene” by minimizing their Hausdorff distance. From the alignment the image regions of interest corresponding to the table cells are extracted for further recognition task. Experiments show that the proposed method with the template can cope with many low quality images and achieve good recognition results.

Abstract Objective: Monitoring the supervision of residents can be a challenging task. We describe our experience with the implementation of a templated note system for documenting procedures with the aim of enabling automated, discrete, and standardized capture of documentation of supervision of residents performing floor-based procedures, with minimal extra effort from the residents. Materials and methods: Procedural note templates were designed using the standard existing template within a commercial electronic health record software. Templates for common procedures were created such that residents could document every procedure performed outside of the formal procedural areas. Automated reports were generated and letters were sent to noncompliers. Results: A total of 27 045 inpatient non–formal procedural area procedures were recorded from August 2012 to June 2014. Compliance with NoteWriter template usage averaged 86% in the first year and increased to 94.6% in the second year (P = .0055). Initially, only 12.5% of residents documented supervision of any form. By the end of the first year, this was above 80%, with the gains maintained into the second year and beyond. Direct supervision was documented to have occurred where required in 62.8% in the first year and increased to 99.8% in the second year (P = .0001) after the addition of hard stops. Notification of attendings prior to procedures was documented 100% of the time by September 2013. Letters sent to errant residents decreased from 3.6 to 0.83 per 100 residents per week. Conclusion: The templated procedure note system with hard stops and integrated reporting can successfully be used to improve monitoring of resident supervision. This has potential impact on resident education and patient safety.

ABSTRACT As with transcription from DNA templates, RNA synthesis from viral RNA templates must initiate accurately. RNA sequences named specificity and initiation determinants allow recognition of and coordinated interaction with the viral replication enzyme. Using enriched replicase from brome mosaic virus (BMV)-infected plants and variants of the promoter template for minus-strand and subgenomic RNA initiation, we found that a specificity determinant for minus-strand initiation could function at variable distances and positions from the 3′ initiation site in a manner similar to enhancers of transcription from DNA templates. This determinant's addition could convert a cellular tRNA into a template for RNA synthesis by the BMV replicase in vitro. Furthermore, the same specificity element could direct internal initiation, which occurred at a highly preferred site in a manner distinct from initiation at the 3′ terminus of the template. These results document two distinct modes of initiation site recognition by a viral RNA replicase.

Next generation sequencing of taxonomically relevant marker genes has enabled researchers to sample the richness, diversity, and composition of environmental microbiomes at previously unattainable depths. However, molecular methods may have unintended downstream consequences and the inadvertent undersampling of microbial communities may be a significant pitfall in microbiome profiling. One such procedure, dilution of the DNA template prior to polymerase chain reaction (PCR), may improve marker gene amplification by reducing chimeric read formation and decreasing PCR inhibitor concentrations. However, dilution unavoidably reduces target DNA template number per sample. We evaluated the effects of pre-PCR DNA template dilution on estimates of soil fungal microbiome diversity, composition, and species abundance distributions across a collection of 144 agricultural soil samples. Fungal DNA templates were serially diluted at 0-, 10-, 100-, and 1,000-fold and sequence data of diluted templates were compared with those of an identical set of undiluted templates. For three prairie soil samples, in addition to evaluating variation among replicates of individual samples, we serially diluted fungal DNA extracts from soil samples in triplicate and sequenced undiluted and diluted samples. DNA template dilution significantly reduced estimates of fungal richness and diversity, as compared with undiluted samples. Dilution of DNA template also resulted in reduced relative abundances of rare operational taxonomic units (OTUs) and increased relative abundances of common OTUs. Collectively, changes in OTU abundance distributions following dilution produced substantial shifts in overall fungal community composition. Our results highlight risks associated with sample dilution and point to the potential utility of quantifying pre-PCR template concentration in the estimation of microbiomes. We urge researchers to thoroughly document methods and to reconsider routine dilution of pre-PCR DNA templates particularly for low abundance microbiome samples. As efforts to profile environmental microbiomes using molecular sequencing approaches accelerate, developing an adequate understanding of potential methodological bottlenecks will increase our ability to accurately characterize and compare datasets.

<p>Yoruba as a language has passed through generation reformations making some of the old documents in the archive to be unreadable by the present generation readers. Apart from this, some Yoruba writers usually mixed English numerals while writing due to brevity and conciseness of English numeral compare to Yoruba numerals which are combination of several characters. Re-typing such historical documents may be time consuming, therefore a need for an efficient Optical Character Reader (OCR) which will not only effectively recognize Yoruba texts but also converts all the English numerals in the document to Yoruba numerals.Several Optical Character Reader (OCR) systems had been developed to recognize characters or texts of some languages such as English, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, however, despite the significant contribution of Yoruba language to historical documentation and communication, it was observed that there is no particular OCR system for the language. In this paper correlation and template matching techniques were used to develop an OCR for the recognition of Yoruba based texts and convert English numerals in the document to Yoruba numerals. Experimental results show the relatively high accuracy of the developed OCR when it was tested on all size Yoruba alphabets and numerals.</p>

Abstract This study analyses two Old English formulae gret freodlice (‘greets in a friendly manner’) and ic cyðe eow þæt (‘I make it known to you that’), which form a salutation–notification template in a document type called writs. It connects the emergence of this formulaic set to previous oral traditions of delivering news and messages, and to their reflection in dictation practices from at least the time of King Alfred. Their later routinisation and standardisation is seen as a factor brought about by the centralised production of royal writs and their subsequent adoption as templates in monastic scriptoria across the country. These templates continue to be recycled in the early Middle English period both in English and in Latin writs, ultimately shifting to Latin-only documents during the reign of William the Conqueror. Although this shift does not hinder the continuity of the selected bureaucratic template into the later Middle Ages, it affects the structure of the discourse community associated with the chancery norms, consolidating its core (those literate in Latin who are involved in production and preservation of writs) and marginalising its periphery (English speakers who used to make up the informed audience for writs in local courts).

Various modern security systems follow a tendency to simplify the usage of the existing biometric recognition solutions and embed them into ubiquitous portable devices. In this work, we continue the investigation and development of our method for securing identification documents. The original facial biometric template, which is extracted from the trusted frontal face image, is stored on the identification document in a secured personalized machine-readable code. Such document is protected from face photo manipulation and may be validated with an offline mobile application. We apply automatic methods of compressing the developed face descriptors to make the biometric validation system more suitable for mobile applications. As an additional contribution, we introduce several print-capture datasets that may be used for training and evaluating similar systems for mobile identification and travel documents validation.

Abstract Background The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires residency programs to meet and demonstrate outcomes across 6 competencies. Measuring residents' competency in practice-based learning and improvement (PBLI) is particularly challenging. Purpose We developed an educational tool to meet ACGME requirements for PBLI. The PBLI template helped programs document quality improvement (QI) projects and supported increased scholarly activity surrounding PBLI learning. Methods We reviewed program requirements for 43 residency and fellowship programs and identified specific PBLI requirements for QI activities. We also examined ACGME Program Information Form responses on PBLI core competency questions surrounding QI projects for program sites visited in 2008–2009. Data were integrated by a multidisciplinary committee to develop a peer-protected PBLI template guiding programs through process, documentation, and evaluation of QI projects. All steps were reviewed and approved through our GME Committee structure. Results An electronic template, companion checklist, and evaluation form were developed using identified project characteristics to guide programs through the PBLI process and facilitate documentation and evaluation of the process. During a 24 month period, 27 programs have completed PBLI projects, and 15 have reviewed the template with their education committees, but have not initiated projects using the template. Discussion The development of the tool generated program leaders' support because the tool enhanced the ability to meet program-specific objectives. The peer-protected status of this document for confidentiality and from discovery has been beneficial for program usage. The document aggregates data on PBLI and QI initiatives, offers opportunities to increase scholarship in QI, and meets the ACGME goal of linking measures to outcomes important to meeting accreditation requirements at the program and institutional level.

<p>How to plan an open and distance learning (ODL) unit in higher education is not clearly described in the literature. A number of ODL facilities at residential universities have not been successful because of a lack of planning or because of failure to ensure that all the different systems for ODL delivery were in place and functioning. This paper sheds light on how to plan strategically and how to implement an ODL unit at an existing university.</p><p>A template analysis was used to construct a road map for ODL planners. We used this analytical tool to organise data from a large collection of articles, books, and documents from 1980-2010. We purposefully chose template analysis as a document analysis process to foster the recurring themes found in published articles on planning and implementing ODL facilities in higher education.</p><p>The results indicate four main strategies for successful implementation of an ODL unit. The template consists of strategic planning, policies, systems, and challenges. It was concluded that the template for ODL planning offers new insight into distance education. It could be used as a foundation for ODL planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. We recommend further research on the template with the aim of theory construction for ODL planning and implementation.</p>

As traditional Preformatted Paper Printing methods can't adapt to the changes of document style and they have made poor performance on document security, in this paper, we have presented a PDF-based solution for Preformatted Paper Printing. The solution consists of three levels, including data organization layer, template editing and configuration layer, and PDF file generation layer. The data organization layer is mainly to solve the problem of data extraction and summary from heterogeneous databases. The template editing and configuration layer focuses on solving the printing template design and data output mapping problem. The PDF file generation layer is mainly to generate and merge the PDF file using iTextSharp component. The scheme can flexibly adapt to changes in content and style, set up parameters simultaneously to prevent a tamper, and undertake operations such as reprint, archive, distribution and so forth. At last, we have verified the solutions performance by the case of university admission notice-Generating. The result shows that our solution is effective.

Abstract Given the complexity of high-acuity health care, designing an effective clinical note template can be beneficial to both document patient care and clarify how telemedicine is used. We characterized documented interactions via a standardized note template between bedside intensive care unit (ICU) providers and teleintensivists in 2 Veterans Health Administration ICU telemedicine support centers. All ICUs linked to support centers and providing care from October 2012 through September 2014 were considered. Interactions were assessed based on initiation site, bedside initiator, contact type, and patient care change. Of 14 511 ICU admissions with teleintensivist access, teleintensivist interaction was documented in 21.6% (N = 3136). In particular, contacts were primarily initiated by bedside staff (74.4%), use increased over time, and of contacts resulting in changes in patient care, most were initiated by a bedside nurse (84.3%). Given this variation, future research necessitates inclusion of utilization in evaluation of Tele-ICU and patient outcomes.

This study aims to establish building commissioning process for large-scaled construction company, and develop the commissioning template in accordance with each phase. The purpose of this paper is to develop a practical, systematic, professional template for commissioning for a large construction company. In addition, commissioning of buildings is the main subject of performance verification of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC & R) systems that require equipment and control, so we focus on verification of HVAC & R. Large-scaled construction companies in Korea are transforming from general contractors to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC)s, and it is expected that the role of building commissioning for the objective quality assurance of buildings will be important in the future. In addition, it is necessary to prepare for this, since it is impossible to properly respond in a timely manner to the contractor who must obtain final approval from a professional commissioning company before delivering the building to owner. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary to properly understand the submission documents and work system required by a professional commissioning company and to establish a work performance system to enable commissioning from the General contractor’s perspective. As the owner's demand for building commissioning increases day by day, a response to this is necessary, also, the commissioning can respond to the global warming crisis. The research team builds the commissioning template from plan to O&M phase, then, the template contained key documents and general document packages.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to compare evidence requirements for health technology assessment of pharmaceuticals by national agencies across Europe responsible for reimbursement decisions focusing specifically on relative effectiveness assessment.Methods: Evidence requirements from thirty-three European countries were requested and twenty-nine national agencies provided documents to review. Data were extracted from national documents (manufacturer's submission templates and associated guidance) into a purpose-made framework with categories covering information about the health condition, the technology, clinical effectiveness and safety.Results: The level of detail in the required evidence varies considerably across countries. Some countries include specific questions while others request information under general headings. Some countries include all information in a single document, which may or may not include guidance on how to complete the template. Others have specific guidance documents or methods and process manuals that help with the completion of the submission templates. Despite differences in quantity and detail, the content of the evidence requirements is broadly similar. All countries ask for information on the health technology, target disease, and clinical effectiveness and safety. However, one country only requests clinical effectiveness information as part of cost-effectiveness analyses. We found twenty-six evidence requirements for which generic answers may apply across borders and nineteen in which countries requested nationally specific information.Conclusions: This work suggests that it would be possible to put together a minimum set of evidence requirements for HTA to support reimbursement decisions across Europe which could facilitate collaboration between jurisdictions.

PurposeThis paper aims to describe the development and testing of an employer’s information requirements (EIR) template and guidance document designed to meet client and facility management (FM) needs in the building information modelling (BIM) process.Design/methodology/approachA qualitative design approach was used and triangulation of methods which included a focus group with the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), semi-structured interviews with the case study Glasgow Life Burrell Renaissance Project who trialled the EIR and peer-reviews and interviews with BIM/CAFM experts from the BIM Academy and FM180.FindingsSpecific guidance to help clients and facility managers prepare key BIM documents like the EIR are needed. They are aware of industry BIM standards and guidance but often not in detail. The Glasgow Life case study illustrated the EIR as a useful collaboration-tool to bring together stakeholders in early planning stages to understand client information needs.Social implicationsAssets and buildings account for most of the energy and material use in society. AbstractContext.—Synoptic reporting for central nervous system (CNS) tumors has never been formally addressed, and neuropathologists lack practical templates that they can adapt to their laboratory information system to be compliant with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards.Objectives.—To provide practical synoptic report templates designed for CNS tumors that allow for easy data extraction and CAP compliance and improve the reporting of CNS tumors.Data Sources.—Review of literature and synoptic report format experience in our practice.Conclusions.—Synoptic reporting of required elements is a recently introduced standard for CNS tumors. It is difficult to use a universal non-CNS tumor synoptic report template for CNS tumors because they are heavily weighted to include items not important or required for CNS tumors, such as margins and the TNM classification system. In addition, the CAP CNS protocol, published in 2008, is an immense comprehensive document that is not conducive to simple inclusion in a narrative report. We describe our experience using a synoptic template for CNS tumors that includes all required elements, is tailored to the practice of neuropathology, and can easily be adapted to other laboratory information systems. Because of the multidisciplinary nature of CNS tumor diagnoses, neuropathologists typically collect clinical, demographic, and imaging data on all CNS tumor cases. These data can readily be entered into a primary synoptic report that could replace our standard narrative report.

AbstractThis paper describes an authoritative, non-proprietary information resource that provides an efficient mechanism for embedding specialized clinical knowledge into the design of healthcare telecommunications systems. The resource marries two types of data interchange standards, a message/electronic-document standard and a terminology standard. In technical terms, it is part protocol and part database. Industry, academia, professional specialty societies, and the federal government participated in its development. The development of mUlti-specialty content has broadly engaged biomedical domain experts to an unprecedented degree in voluntary, non-proprietary message/document-standards development. The resource is the SNOMED DICOM Microglossary (SDM) [1], a message-terminology (or document-content) mapping resource. The message/electronicdocument standard is DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) [2]. The terminology standard is SNOMED, (Systematized Nomenclature of Human and Veterinary Medicine) [31. The SDM specifies the mapping of multi-specialty imaging terminology from SNOMED to DICOM data elements. DICOM provides semantic constraints and a framework for discou rse that are lacking in SNOMED. Thus the message standard and the computerbased terminology both depend upon and complete each other. The combination is synergistic. By substitution of different templates of specialty terminology from the SDM, a generic message template, such as the DICOM Visible Light (Color Diagnostic) Image or the DICOM Structured Reporting specification can be reconfigured for diverse applications. Professional societies, with technical assistance from the College of American Pathologists, contribute and maintain their portions of the terminology, and can use SDM templates and term lists in clinical practice guidelines for the structure and content of computer-based patient records.

In this paper, we consider the problem of identity document recognition in images captured with a mobile device camera. A high level of projective distortion leads to poor quality of the restored text images and, hence, to unreliable recognition results. We propose a novel, theoretically based method for estimating the projective distortion level at a restored image point. On this basis, we suggest a new method of binary quality estimation of projectively restored field images. The method analyzes the projective homography only and does not depend on the image size. The text font and height of an evaluated field are assumed to be predefined in the document template. This information is used to estimate the maximum level of distortion acceptable for recognition. The method was tested on a dataset of synthetically distorted field images. Synthetic images were created based on document template images from the publicly available dataset MIDV-2019. In the experiments, the method shows stable predictive values for different strings of one font and height. When used as a pre-recognition rejection method, it demonstrates a positive predictive value of 86.7% and a negative predictive value of 64.1% on the synthetic dataset. A comparison with other geometric quality assessment methods shows the superiority of our approach.

AimsAn audit was conducted to assess if thorough risk assessments had been documented in electronic clinical record notes (ECR) clerking for new patients in two acute mental health wards. Risk assessment is a vital part of admission clerking and when done well it can prevent early incidents and aid the ward nursing team greatly. During induction, junior doctors are advised to document assessed risks when clerking a new patient. A screening of the risks on admission could help determine the levels of observations required to minimise the identified risks whilst the patient awaits their first ward review.MethodThe NHS numbers for the 30 current inpatients across male and female acute psychiatric wards were gathered at the time of the audit (February – March 2020). Admission clerking was analysed for a clear statement of patient risk to self, others or property. Within these categories quantitative results were obtained on how often the risk of self-harm, self-neglect, absconding, vulnerability or aggression was documented. The term ‘risk’ was used for each patient on their ECR notes to search for risk assessments in all entries other than admission clerking.Result12 out of the 30 patients had a junior doctor risk assessment documented in their clerking (40%). 14 patients had no mention of risk assessment on admission (47%) and their first formal risk assessment was documented only in their senior ward review. Of the 12 assessments completed in clerking; all assessed self harm/suicide risk and violent risk to others, 1 mentioned risk of absconding, 8 mentioned risk of illicit substance use and 8 mentioned vulnerability. It was unclear if the risks documented were based on current or historic presentation. Junior doctors were anonymously surveyed following this audit and reported they did not feel confident in how to document a risk assessment or whether to document negative findings.ConclusionClear documentation of risk assessment being performed was lacking in over half of junior doctor admission clerkings. When risks were assessed it was mainly violence/self harm risk documented not vulnerability and physical health risks. Based on these findings we have designed more comprehensive teaching on risk assessments and a template for how to complete a risk assessment. We feel the use of a template will ensure all elements of risk are clearly considered even if they are not present currently. This is being reaudited to assess if the changes have impacted the quality of risk assessment conducted.

However, despite the various methods and opportunities for evaluation, a lack of understanding of the processes, measures and value are some of the major impediments to effective evaluation. Evaluation requires an understanding of what to evaluate, how to evaluate it, how to collect and analyse the information and how to action and implement what has been learned. The aim of this paper is to describe an instrument to document not only the evaluative process, but also evaluative outcomes. The Course Improvement Flowchart (CIF) provides a template for the application of an action inquiry framework. Throughout this process, the CIF template can be used to document key recommendations emanating from multiple sources of feedback so that a proactive statement of intent or action plan for teaching and course improvement is written. The resultant improvements that may be achieved in teaching and course quality may lead to more satisfying teaching experiences, improved student outcomes and heightened professional growth as a teacher.

Introduction Approaches to economic evaluations of stroke therapies are varied and inconsistently described. An objective of the European Stroke Organisation (ESO) Health Economics Working Group is to standardise and improve the economic evaluations of interventions for stroke. Methods The ESO Health Economics Working Group and additional experts were contacted to develop a protocol and a guidance document for data collection for economic evaluations of stroke therapies. A modified Delphi approach, including a survey and consensus processes, was used to agree on content. We also asked the participants about resources that could be shared to improve economic evaluations of interventions for stroke. Results Of 28 experts invited, 16 (57%) completed the initial survey, with representation from universities, government, and industry. More than half of the survey respondents endorsed 13 specific items to include in a standard resource use questionnaire. Preferred functional/quality of life outcome measures to use for economic evaluations were the modified Rankin Scale (14 respondents, 88%) and the EQ-5D instrument (11 respondents, 69%). Of the 12 respondents who had access to data used in economic evaluations, 10 (83%) indicated a willingness to share data. A protocol template and a guidance document for data collection were developed and are presented in this article. Conclusion The protocol template and guidance document for data collection will support a more standardised and transparent approach for economic evaluations of stroke care.

This study aimed to develop, implement and evaluate a standardised template for lung cancer MDTs to provide clinical information and treatment recommendations to general practitioners (GPs). Specific objectives were to (1) evaluate template feasibility (acceptability, appropriateness and timeliness) with GPs and (2) document processes of preimplementation, implementation and evaluation within the MDT setting.DesignA mixed-method study design using structured interviews with GPs and qualitative documentation of project logs about implementation processes.SettingTwo hospitals in Central Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Participants: 61 GPs evaluated the template. Two lung cancer MDTs, consisting of 33 clinicians, and eight researchers participated in template development and implementation strategy.ResultsThe MDT-reporting template appears to be a feasible way of providing clinical information to GPs following patient presentation at a lung cancer MDT meeting. Ninety-five per cent of GPs strongly agreed or agreed that the standardised template provided useful and relevant information, that it was received in a timely manner (90%) and that the information was easy to interpret and communicate to the patient (84%). Implementation process data show that the investment made in the preimplementation stage to integrate the template into standard work practices was a critical factor in successful implementation.ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that it is feasible to provide lung cancer MDT treatment recommendations to GPs through implementation of a standardised template. A simple intervention, such as a standardised template, can help to address quality gaps and ensure that timely information is communicated between tertiary and primary care healthcare providers.

In Khmer printed characters, same character has various shapes according to the fonts and some characters are very similar in shape. In this paper we try to solve these problems, and propose a method of Khmer printed character recognition by using Wavelet Descriptors. In the recognition, firstly the Khmer printed character images are converted to skeleton forms, then skeletons of Khmer character are converted to temporal domain. The templates are obtained by wavelet coefficients from the character training set. To match the input characters with templates, the character recognition method using deformable wavelet descriptor is adapted by using fixed template and Euclidean distance classifier for matching. The smallest distance is the recognition result of the proposed method. As a result, the deformation can be skipped because it might get low recognition rate of similar characters. The experiment consists of two parts. The first part is to evaluate the overall recognition rate of input characters with three different sizes (22-point, 18-point and 12-point) from 10 different fonts of Khmer printed character. Twenty styles of characters are used as the training set. The results show 92.85, 91.66, and 89.27 percent for 22-point, 18-point, and 12-point respectively. The second part is to specifically evaluate the system, testing with one document that has 21 pages of Khmer printed character with different resolutions from a scanner and facsimile (fax). The document is initially printed with 300 dpi (dots per inch), then scanned with three different resolutions, 600 dpi, 300 dpi and 150 dpi. The document that received from fax machine is scanned by 300 dpi. The results show 92.99, 88.61, and 80.05 percent recognition rate for 300, 150 dpi resolutions, and input from fax respectively.

Tools to guide and facilitate countries in CWR national conservation planning and NSAP development have been prepared, namely: an ‘Interactive Toolkit for CWR Conservation Planning’, a ‘Template for the Preparation of a NSAP for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of CWR’, a ‘Template for the Preparation of a Technical Background Document for a NSAP for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of CWR’, a ‘CWR Checklist and Inventory Data Template’ and an ‘Occurrence Data Collation Template’. In this short communication, we briefly explain what these tools are, how they were developed, how they can be used and where they can be found.

Abstract Background Pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies endeavor to relate their decision making with outcomes to improve future decision making and to ensure that gained knowledge is fed back into a learning system. Nevertheless, such a correlation can only be achieved by documenting the expected outcome of a decision at the time it is made, enabling comparison of the expected outcome with the actual result. Methods Participants at an international workshop discussed how the documentation of decisions could be evolved as companies and agencies look to improve their knowledge base. Discussions were informed by a pre-workshop survey of pharmaceutical companies and regulatory agencies. Results Most survey participants from 12 companies (55% response rate) and 11 agencies (73% response) have a system in place to enable documentation of major decisions, however, systems are used primarily to document outcomes rather than the process, while information from documentation is not always used, and feedback loops are not in place. The majority of participants indicated that their organization currently documents most decision-making practices included in the proposed template. Workshop participants agreed that all major past decisions should be referenceable and suggested incentives to enable decisions to be referenced, and confirmed elements and characteristics of a decision-documentation template. Conclusions This survey and workshop identified the current landscape and gaps in the documentation of decision making and suggested revisions for a proposed documentation template. The use of technology to enable information extraction with support from artificial intelligence and future decision making was a recommendation highlighted by participants.

In our experience, this can lead to questions by regulators, resulting in numerous information requests during the review process. To address this, we propose a new document, the method history report (MHR), which can comprehensively present the history of the immunogenicity assay for regulators, including assay development and validation. The flexibility of the MHR allows for adaptation to the specific needs of each therapeutic program, while maintaining a consistent template. Here, we detail the rationale, general outline and template for the MHR and recommend others consider adopting it for their biologics license application-related activities.

OPNML language is an open and portable format based on XML which is determined to the description of object-oriented Petri net. It is capable to express not only the structure of the analyzed system, but also its behavior and diagram. To display Petri net as a graph, there was created the template using XSLT language which defines the rules of transformation from OPNML language to SVG vector graphic format. SVG diagrams are then viewable with any web browser which supports SVG format, optionally relevant plug-in can be installed. The template also supports modular Petri nets as it is capable of creating several diagrams from one OPNML document. Individual diagrams can be interconnected via XLink links, so there is possible to move among them by mouse.

Innovation and project management formation are best accomplished in the early stage of a project. The project charter is important to the success of a project, transforming agreements and facts into a documented project management approach. This output begins to organize and document a project's need and expected outcomes at the beginning of the project management process and provides a foundation on which to base project decisions. This paper evaluates the completeness and effectiveness of a project charter template as a project management tool. In addition, a project charter is developed for an information system development project initiated by a hospital-based clinical laboratory, addressing the problem of a complete lack of a repeatable project management process within an entity whose adaptation of formal project management methods is immature. A section-by-section assessment of the justification for inclusion in the Tryon and Associates Project Charter (Tryon and Associates, 1998) adopted by St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma USA, based upon a review of project management literature, is accomplished. In addition, a working project charter for use in the planning phase of one of Regional Medical Laboratory's (RML) current information system development projects—RML Turnaround Time System—is constructed and evaluated. This study of project charter components, combined with the development of a formal planning document for an authentic project in progress, provides an opportunity to introduce, validate, and integrate the concept of a formalized project initiation process.

Abstract Mycobacterial Pol1 is a bifunctional enzyme composed of an N-terminal DNA flap endonuclease/5′ exonuclease domain (FEN/EXO) and a C-terminal DNA polymerase domain (POL). Here we document additional functions of Pol1: FEN activity on the flap RNA strand of an RNA:DNA hybrid and reverse transcriptase activity on a DNA-primed RNA template. We report crystal structures of the POL domain, as apoenzyme and as ternary complex with 3′-dideoxy-terminated DNA primer-template and dNTP. The thumb, palm, and fingers subdomains of POL form an extensive interface with the primer-template and the triphosphate of the incoming dNTP. Progression from an open conformation of the apoenzyme to a nearly closed conformation of the ternary complex entails a disordered-to-ordered transition of several segments of the thumb and fingers modules and an inward motion of the fingers subdomain—especially the O helix—to engage the primer-template and dNTP triphosphate. Distinctive structural features of mycobacterial Pol1 POL include a manganese binding site in the vestigial 3′ exonuclease subdomain and a non-catalytic water-bridged magnesium complex at the protein-DNA interface. We report a crystal structure of the bifunctional FEN/EXO–POL apoenzyme that reveals the positions of two active site metals in the FEN/EXO domain.

ABSTRACT # 2017-234 The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR) has drafted a “Data Management and Sharing Plan” document for use in drills and oil spill response in California. Implementation of this plan will help to avoid compartmentalized isolation of information within the ICS units and sections, will facilitate data dissemination throughout the broader response community, and provide continuance throughout staff changes over a prolonged response. The OSPR document is a modified version of a document first created by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Office of Response and Restoration (OR&R)1. In May of 2015 the OR&R document was adapted by OSPR and OR&R for use at the Refugio Pipeline Spill in Santa Barbara, California. This was the first use of such a document at an oil spill response in California. That document version has been subsequently revised by OSPR. The OSPR document retains all of the components of the original OR&R version but has been re-formatted in order to replace technological jargon with plain English to accommodate Incident Commanders and others less familiar with Geographic Information System (GIS) specific technical terms. The document addresses the use of a GIS based Common Operational Picture (COP), specific essential elements of information to be collected, data management, data sharing, requirements for field reporting, data quality control, data file formats, and data archiving. The current OSPR document is designed as a template for regular use by California’s State on Scene Coordinator (SOSC), and can be easily filled out and modified to the specific needs of any oil spill response incident.

Although DNA nanowires have proven useful as a template for fabricating functional nanomaterials and a platform for genetic analysis, their widespread use is still hindered because of limited control over the size, geometry, and alignment of the nanowires. Here, we document the capillarity-induced folding of an initially wrinkled surface and present an approach to the spontaneous formation of aligned DNA nanowires using a template whose surface morphology dynamically changes in response to liquid. In particular, we exploit the familiar wrinkling phenomenon that results from compression of a thin skin on a soft substrate. Once a droplet of liquid solution containing DNA molecules is placed on the wrinkled surface, the liquid from the droplet enters certain wrinkled channels. The capillary forces deform wrinkles containing liquid into sharp folds, whereas the neighboring empty wrinkles are stretched out. In this way, we obtain a periodic array of folded channels that contain liquid solution with DNA molecules. Such an approach serves as a template for the fabrication of arrays of straight or wrinkled DNA nanowires, where their characteristic scales are robustly tunable with the physical properties of liquid and the mechanical and geometrical properties of the elastic system.
